Hello!! Your Copia doll is coming along beautifully! The paint is so realistic. Like his bottom lip has texture I have no idea how you do it! Your project got me really curious about doll work myself!! 🫣 but I have no idea where to begin. I have a few questions to start out with-

1. Could you summarize the overall process? What are the general steps from start to finish?

2. What general materials do you need?

3. What paint do you use? What brushes/applicators do you use? How did you achieve those softer/blended contour lines, like in skin tone? If that makes sense. I see some others’ projects that you can clearly see paint lines or the texture of the paint they used, but your Copia almost looks airbrushed!! :0

4. How does putting in the hair work?

5. Where do you buy your base doll? And as far as the reveal in the ~bonus picture~, did he come anatomically correct or was that something you had to add? 👀

6. Where do you recommend buying supplies?

Thanks for all the fantastic questions! Whether you work on playline vinyl dolls like Monster High or Resin Ball Jointed Dolls, the process is the same. The only difference between them is that with the vinyl dolls you are painting the eyes on yourself. Resin Popia has inset glass and resin eyes.

All the questions answered below the cut!

1. Could you summarize the overall process? What are the general steps from start to finish?

I will be uploading some vids soon. Try this one first tho.

When you do a faceup, it is a collaboration between you and the sculptor. The sculpture does most of the work. You are bringing the deep parts of the sculpture deeper and the forward parts more forward.

Basically this:

photograph and disassemble doll

wash doll pieces with dawn dish soap and warm water. dry all parts I want to paint.

three coats of Mister Super Clear UV Cut (MSC) sealant on each piece, with a 20 min dry time between coats.

deep freckle/blood vessel texture (optional) with red, blue,brown waterey gouache, spray MSC

dark reddish pink chalk pastel pigments in the deep creases/crevices, areas of blood flow. Correct work with kneaded eraser.

after every layer of pigment that I like, I do another spray of MSC.

lighter pinks or tans (based on skin tone references) on things I want to bring forward (brows, nose tip, cheekbones), another pass in the deep areas, new color on the lips. spray seal

Detail with fine lines under eyes, line texture on lips, wrinkles, lower eyelashes. Check references and experiment. A touch of green in the deepest part of the skull on either side of the nose. You know, where you get sinus headaches.

Pray to Satan and cry as I add eyebrows and hair details with gouache. I start by mapping the brows out with dark chalk pastel then do hairstroke lines with gouache. Personally I am super heavy -handed with my brushes, I need to work on that.

When happy, 2 final coats of MSC

Add Vallejo gloss varnish to water lines of eyes and lips.

2. What general materials do you need?

FYI I have been in this hobby for about 7 years. I have only had to replace Mister Super Clear cans and respirator cartidges in that time. Everything else I have used for nearly a decade. And also used them for other projects!

#1 item you need: a proper serious respirator. You will be at risk of inhaling toxic chemicals when you work with sealants or do any sort of dry sanding. Please please please invest in this item.

Mr. Super Clear UV Cut sealant spray. This gives the resin or vinyl a toothy surface to apply pastel pigments, watercolor pencil, and gouache paint on. The techniques will not work without this surface.

The sealant also behaves like skin, which is made up of several layers of matte cells So the pigment you apply to the resin is suspended in layers just like real skin.

Chalk Pastels I like the mungyo hand-rolled chalk pastel just because when you use a razor to scrape off some pigment it crushes up and mixes better. But any chalk pastel will do. The Xanthi video I will link later has a great idea of just buying a few chalks at a time, because to be honest I don't use all of my chalk.

Small nylon brushes.

A fan brush

A tooth brush (for skin texturing/freckles)

Crappy dollar store makeup brushes (for pigment powders)

Kneaded Erasers

White cloth gloves

ceramic dish for a palette

Some people use watercolor pencils, but I never got the hang of them. I prefer just using brushes. Everyone has their own thing they do.

3. What paint do you use? What brushes/applicators do you use? How did you achieve those softer/blended contour lines, like in skin tone?

Goache paint dries flat and matte. It's basically opaque watercolor. I use a damp q-tip to remove it if I make a mistake.

Winsor-Newton is great. I am pleasantly surprised by Arteza's gouache. I have used the same gouache tubes for seven years. You put like a raindrop sized bit on a ceramic dish, that's it. And you can reconstitute gouache endlessly with just a little water.

The trick is to never EVER EVER use true black. nothing is true black unless it's makeup. I use gouache paint on Resin Popia's eye makeup but then soften it with black pastel powder to make it richer.

If you use true black it looks like mud or holes. Dark purples, browns, and greens.

Also don't be afraid to be a bit louder with the colors, the sealant mutes them a lot. Just work slowly and take breaks.

4. How does putting in the hair work?

For resin dolls, you need to make a wig. They are a PITA to make, but it's possible! Check out Mozekyto for how to make wigs. (I'll have more recommended videos further down this post.) Vinyl playline dolls you can reroot, but some people prefer wigs.

5. Where do you buy your base doll? And as far as the reveal in the ~bonus picture~, did he come anatomically correct or was that something you had to add? 👀

The same techniques can use used on vinyl dolls like Rainbow High, Monster High etc. You can get them at goodwill, big box stores, and on ebay. Lots of people sell old toy dolls.

Resin Ball Jointed Dolls are a lot more expensive, so I have spent several years slowly building up my collection. I love vinyl and resin dolls equally.

I bought my base doll from Alice Collections acbjd.com they are a vendor of many resin dolls. I absolutely love Resinsoul.

My favorite doll companies (find them on Alice Collections!) are IslandDoll, Resinsoul, Dollmore, MyouDoll, DollLeaves, 5StarDoll.

Resin Popia is MSD "Mini Super Dollfie" size aka 40cm-52cm. He's 52 cm. SD (Super Dollfie) is around 60-65cm.

I have owned dolls that were considered "prestige artist dolls" in the past, but I always end up selling them because they are so precious I'm afraid to ruin them so they just become dollar signs to me instead of something I love. I'd say $300 would get you a gorgeous resin doll and some clothes for them. Saving up for a doll you really really love is worth it in the end. People also sell used dolls on Instagram. Just please make sure to check the COAs.....

Important Note: I am a Pro-Artist legit BJD collector. AliExpress, Etsy, and Ebay have bootleg dolls that yes, are significantly cheaper, but that is because they steal from the artists that did 99% of the work (and spent tons of their own money) to develop the doll's appearance and engineering. If one cares about supporting artists they should consider the ramifications of purchasing these recasts and propagating the bootleggers. (Especially since a large part of the artist BJD community is from Russia and Ukraine, who have been lately hard hit by war and YET are still making beautiful art for the world to enjoy) I am not pro-bullying though, I am Pro-Education so if anyone wants to have a private, frank conversation about recasts in the BJD hobby feel free to message me.

One silly thing that happened once was I purchased a legit IslandDoll Bru (IslandDoll is always on sale TBH) that was actually cheaper than its recast on ebay. There are a lot of sales during Chinese holidays (11/11, Lunar New Year, Fall Festival) and you usually get a lot of extras like free eyes, beautiful carrying cases, incredible boxes, etc. Resinsoul, the "cheap" BJD company often gives you a gorgeous carrying case for your doll.

Ok enough with the disclaimers now onto doll d!cks haha

Resin dolls are usually realistic when it comes to parts. Realistic in the fact that they add something there...something simple but it's there. Resin Popia has option parts made of silicone that are actually from an action figure company called TB League. Look up "TB League Option Parts" on Ebay. The figures are 1/6 scale making the parts scary and massive at 1/6 scale but funnily enough they make sense at 1/4 scale.

IDK why i got em, I just wanted to have some fun with this doll.

6. Where do you recommend buying supplies?

If you can get to a local hobbyshop that sells models (like miniatures and wargaming figures) please support them first! As vital spaces for geek culture they need all of our support. You can get tiny brushes, Model Paints and sometimes even the sealant from them. Just call ahead they can work something out for you!

Chalk Pastels, Gouache paints I get from art supply stores and as a last resort, Amazon. I use these supplies in other art projects and you will quickly get addicted to gouache painting, i'm sure of it!

Tbh I'm up to chapter 8 on that now so we're ready to really start pushing ahead with some of the side stories which is exciting

As for me, it's been pretty rough, anon, not gonna lie. I'm going to put this under a read more because I'm pretty honest and also because there's more than one 'I might have cancer' mention among other things:

I kind of thought I was doing fine and then it all got on top of me a couple of days ago and (self-harm mention) I ended up self-injuring due to autistic meltdown. Sometimes I don't realise how bad things really are until I'm at that stage and I have bruises and soft tissue damage to show for it. I've since talked to my doctor and therapist about it, but like...oof.

I've actually been taking a break from writing since I've hit 50k and I generally have a rule that I have to take at least 2-4 days off once I've hit that point, but I'm still pretty stuffed, but mostly for health reasons. I've written 14 chapters this month so I feel okay about the break lol.

On Friday (the day after the meltdown) I needed to have a hand X-ray (even right now, the knuckles in my left hand are really sore), see my GP for 40 minutes, talk to my therapist, organise an iron infusion (I have microcytic anemia and need an iron infusion again, which I think is my 5th or 6th - I need one about once every 2-3 years, and mostly the time between is the slow downward spiral of losing more and more iron until I'm truly fucked) and a meeting with one of the head haematologists in the state because my red blood cells are bullshit and weird (yay). Guess that explains the exhaustion.

I still need to organise a lymph node ultrasound (which is probably nothing, except there is like a 'higher than average' chance it could be metastatic cancer, since I do have tumours in my head right now that could metastasize, and the tumours are extremely close to the swollen lymph node - also I haven't had a virus).

I need to organise a meeting with a dermatologist, I need to organise a full abdominal MRI to see if I have any other tumours we don't know about, and I got an eating disorder management plan for restrictive eating, which does entitle me to like...cheaper dietitian appointments, but also formalises me as having an ED as opposed to 'disordered eating.'

On top of that I had to deal with a tribunal after my Dad had a catastrophic stroke a few months ago, and the tribunal was last month, to determine who would look after him. Our family is so broken and my stepmother so manipulative/vindictive that the government decided no one could be trusted and took care of his finances and healthcare themselves meaning none of us can have any real say in his future (truly the best outcome, but a damning one for the state of the family), and I also had to listen to my stepmother accuse my sister of being a criminal for 20 minutes with completely unfounded lies, and of course, my Dad has had a catastrophic stroke, and that's complicated. That's a whole...

That saga is so much anon, I cannot even begin to explain even the tip of that iceberg.

I've been spending a lot of extra time like scanning family photos and other things and packing items in his home for storage etc. and while that's been done now for over a month and a half, I guess the burn out started some time ago and it's just been slowly getting on top of me. Kind of the 'slowly boiling a lobster in a pot' analogy.

I've been overall quieter on Tumblr as a result of all of this, and it all just...destroyed me on Thursday, and ever since then I've been recovering.

I've just realised it's nearly 1.00am and I swear the last time I looked at the clock - which felt like 5 minutes ago - it was 11.00pm.

Oh and to top it all off I've had vicious 'not falling asleep until 4.00am' insomnia + increased nightmares because my PTSD has relapsed back into 'pretty severe.' So um, managing most nights on 3-4 hours of sleep a night, and that's bad for all my chronic illnesses, of which I have many.

Ah. Yeah. :(

Lemme rustle up some good news for you, anon, because I feel like this is just too much crap.

Bushflowers/wildflowers are really nice right now as it's turning to spring in Western Australia (it's Djilba in the Noongar seasonal system, which I prefer)

Rhubarb is in season so I'm making a lot of stewed apple and rhubarb as a comfort food.

Reading the manhwa Punch Drunk Love and enjoying it.

Asks like yours - even if all of this sounds dire - helps me to undestand that I actually do have good reasons to feel tired and that it's okay to take breaks and that's really valuable (sometimes - though rarely - people use my anon function to talk at me, rather than talking to me as a person, and I just...really value feeling like a person sometimes aslfkjsa) so while I might seem down, this has actually been nice to end my night on. Also you've reminded me that I am super excited/happy to share more Underline the Gold with people

I got some organisational stuff and organising stuff in the house makes me feel good.

I have an extremely good doctor and tbh for a long time I didn't, so like, every good specialist and doctor is worth their weight in gold. :)

Hi. How are you? I'd like to ask you something, an opinion so to speak. Feel free to not engage if I am being inconvenient. It's just you seem really really fond of Sergio. You mentioned you're married and you display a very mature approach towards all subjects. I'm 37 and can't talk much about him with my friends. They look at me like I'm the second season of The Last of Us yet to be shot😅 The thing is I like Pilar a lot. I see many differences between her and Sergio but this is healthy and, besides, I believe they coincide in the real important life values. Otherwise they would not be raising 4 happy children together. However, she seems completely disconnected from his family. It seems to be getting worse. I think he doesn't give 2 fucks, pardon my language, keeps going strong between the 2 of them, but it sure must be a source of tension. Do you have any thoughts on that, any understanding of what the reasons are? I remember Mirian being glued to Pilar, all of them going fishing on sales in Madrid. And since he decided to make their union official in the church the relations derailed. When they released the clip, there is Pilar coming down the aisle, Sergio was crying and Paqui was looking at her as if she were going to commit murder... Idk. I just needed to vent after Alex's bday. Idk if it is possible for you to answer privately. Hi 😊 I'm gonna try to answer this somewhat coherently, but i can't promise anything 😉

So first of all, i'm gonna say i'm in a somewhat similar situation with my mother-in-law or family-in-law for that matter. She's a perfecty nice woman, i just don't have anything in common with her, like our personalities and our outlook on life are so different, that honestly i don't think she really knows what to do with me or how to talk to me (and we've known each other for almost 20 years). It's just what happens sometimes and granted my husband isn't nearly as close to his family as Sergio is, but at some point you find a way that works for everyone and it's really not that much of an issue. It's a bit sad maybe, but some families just aren't that close.

As for Pilar's relationship with Sergio's family. I agree, it doesn't seem to be all that close, but i don't think there's any bad blood between them either. They do spend most holidays together, they went to Paris for New Year's and so on.

i actually think there are two reasons why it might seem lately that they don't get along anymore.

One, Pilar is generally very aware of how she presents herself on social media. Most of her posts are for her career and even the more candid ones are usually from photo shoots or are staged in a way to portrait her in a certain image. I'm mean it's what social media is for when you're basically an influencer. But if she's in Sevilla with Sergio (and his family) she probably doesn't want to get dressed up and put on a full face of make-up, so sometimes i feel like she deliberately steps out of the pictures and videos to keep her privacy (if that makes sense).

And they've never been a couple who did everything together. They've always been pretty independent with their own circle of friends and their own hobbies and i guess it wasn't that much of a problem when they were still in Madrid and Pilar had all her friends and family close (I remember Sergio saying once how envious he was of her that she still had all her old friends around), but now that they're living in Paris, with their jobs and the kids, they only have so much time left for their friends and families, so i guess it's easier sometimes to just spend their days off separately with their own circle of people.

And i totally agree on the values part. They definitely seem very similiar in how they want to live their lifes and how they want to raise their family and in my opinion that's way more important for a healthy relationship than sharing the same hobbies or tastes. You're gonna have to agree on the big things and at least from the outside it looks like they do.

Anyway, i hope this makes at least some sense 😊

Okaaaaaay! Wild theory time that many will say is totally incorrect!

This theory is partially inspired by this post by @twinterrors29

But it is also just a wild mind tangent that I came up with. Now on with the theory!

...

Boba Fett is a feared bounty hunter, he's been in the game since he was 10 years old, since his father the great Jango Fett died.. He's good at what he does. He's respected and revered. But here's the thing...

Anyone could be Boba Fett.

Throughout canon many have been Boba Fett. In old canon the name Boba Fett was just alias used by Jaster Mereel. It wasn't until "Attack of the Clones" was released that anyone had even heard of Jango. And during "The Clone Wars" TV show, during the arc at the end of season 2, we see that no one can differentiate between Boba and the other clones.

So where am I going with this?

This:

Is not Boba Fett.

Or...well...he might be.

Don't believe me? Neither do I. Here's some shaky proof:

Boba Fett was born in roughly 32 BBY and the show "The Mandalorian" takes place in roughly 9 ABY, which makes Boba Fett approximately 41 years old. During the events of "Attack of the Clones" Jango Fett is 44 years old having been born in 66 BBY (the beginning of the Clone Wars was in 22 BBY lasting till 19 BBY). During which time he looked like this:

Now YES, the actor has aged, Boba fell into a Sarlacc and is dealing with scaring, and he has spend the last 5 years on Tatooine (we all know how this goes for people...)

But this ⬆️ is the work of 20 years.

Case in point, I have a hard time believing that Boba and Jango are roughly the same age, I mean look:

One obviously hasn't aged as delicately as the other.

There's not really much that can explain this, we fans just look over it because we love Temuera Morrison so much (I love him too).

But who do we know who have accelerated aging that would explain this difference? The other clones, of course.

The clones (with the exception of Boba) were genetically modified so that they would age at twice the normal human rate, at 10 they were physically and mentally 20, and battle ready.

But they aged at twice the normal human rate, why would a 40 year old look 60 instead of 80?

Well there's a simple answer. Deceleration.

In the Republic Commando books, Skirata finds a way to slow the clones aging down to a normal human rate. Unfortunately nothing in canon has shown that this is possible, but as many have pointed out, Rex was looking really spry in "Rebels."

So it is possible that some 10 years after the war, a cure was found.

During the year 19 BBY the clones were roughly 26-28 years old, ten years later in 9 BBY when the "Kenobi" series take place, clones without decelerate aging would appear nearly 50 years old, and lucky for us we see a 501st trooper in a cameo:

Now, he's obviously older and grizzly, but he still more closely resembles the younger Boba Fett than Jango who is closer to his age physically.

...

I'm not saying that anything I've said here is definitive proof that the Boba Fett from "The Book of Boba Fett" and "The Mandalorian" is a Padmé decoy, far from it. But I am saying that there's enough here that there's a chance that it's true. Especially with the drastic personality change that we see from Boba in the original series, stern and serious, dangerous. A personality that even carries over into "The Clone Wars" and the Boba Fett young readers books, though technically Legends now. This new Boba is not the stoic and legendary bounty hunter we know, and that may be the point, but it won't stop me from theorizing.

After all this may be the real Boba Fett:

We may never know...

Which is the real Boba? Are they all the same Boba? How many Bobas are there?

What if the Boba Fett we've come to know and love, isn't even the real Boba Fett?

This is Special Agent Lenore Houston, one of only three female Bureau of Investigation agents hired before 1972. Her history is shrouded in mystery and in the process of writing "The Case of the Penumbral Gate" (our next season which we’re crowdfunding for right now and ends 11/23/22). We hope to uncover more of her real history and imbue our fictional character, Special Agent Lake, with authentic experiences pulled from Houston's life.

As Sarah Rhea Werner, who plays her on the show pointed out, in the above photo Special Agent Houston "just looks f---in' PISSED."

When J. Edgar Hoover came to power, he asked for the resignation of the two existing female agents, Davidson and Duckstein. Houston has the strange distinction of being the only female agent hired during Hoover's nearly 50 years of tyranny as Director of the FBI.

Side note: Duckstein, who we can't find any photos of, has her own wild story and Hoover targeted her for testifying against the Bureau's illegal investigative techniques. We're looking into her too. Below is an excerpt from page 547 of the Investigation of the Former Attorney General Harry M. Daugherty, in which Duckstein is intensely charming in her enthusiasm to point out some creepy perps in this scandal.

Hoover, famously misogynistic (see below letter from 1971), was against Houston becoming an agent, but after pressure from the Pennsylvania Governor & a Congressman on her behalf, he conceded & she was an active agent from 1924 to 1928. Who was she and how did she have such powerful allies? No one knows.

Houston was born in a town that no longer exists (Collamer, PA), went to Swarthmore College, belonged to Pi Beta Phi - the first female secret society in the US, and was unmarried. Between graduating college and becoming a Special Agent at 45 there's 20 years unaccounted for.

In her last year as an agent, Hoover personally wrote several memos retroactively placing her on leave (very unusual) until asking her resignation. Two years later she was institutionalized, reportedly hallucinating and threatening to shoot Hoover if she was ever released.

Houston died in 1933, and her strange final years suggest a sinister story. She moved from the Philadelphia office to the Washington D.C. office in 1927 and an outstanding career turns sour, the more Hoover directly gets involved. During a time where it was very easy to call a woman hysterical and have her institutionalized (especially a gender-nonconforming unmarried woman of almost 50) it's easy to read that Hoover silenced her. It's in his playbook.

Agent Lake's story is going to be very different from Houston's - very much her own, but very informed by Houston's life, times, work environment, and perhaps even the history of her fellow female agents. Though all of this informed the character that Sarah played in our initial roleplaying session, this history isn't at the center of "The Case of the Penumbral Gate". We're hoping that we'll be able to meet our stretch goal to do a standalone Agent Lake special so we can dive deep into all of this and tell the story of how untangling a conspiracy in Washington D.C. puts Agent Lake in Director Hoover’s crosshairs. There’s something weird going on and no one is listening. Naturally, this world-weary non-conformist has to take matters into her own hands.

If you want to hear this story and help us do research that as far as we know no one else has done into the lives of these Agents, please spread the word far and wide. Let's see if we can get this campaign funded and reach these stretch goals!

I don’t use the metro, and I no longer wander the neighborhoods of Paris so I don’t know what’s happening outside of my bubble. When I was at dinner last week there was talk about the strikes, but we didn’t use the metro so we just shrugged it off. “That’s Paris”.

Strikes are normal. Everyone who has lived in Paris knows. In 2020 the metro was closed for like a month (right before Covid). If you lived here in 2016? That was probably the worst of it in my Paris history. The World Cup or the Championships were in town and those garbage workers said “fuck ya’ll, we’re going to make you look bad” and others did the same. At the time I lived at the bottom of Luxembourg and everyday boulevard Montparnasse was shut down for protests (manifestations). I stopped paying attention to who was protesting each day but it usually involves CGT.

The city drove in huge barricades on wheels (over 12ft) like everyday at 2pm and set them up on Avenue de l’Observatoire, where the 6th and the 5th turn into the 14th at Port Royale. The Gendarme lived on boulevard Montparnasse. It was constant. It wasn't nearly as destructive as Gilets Jeunes but one particular day was so bad they smashed all of the windows on the boulevard Montparnasse and burned down an LCL. That corner of Raspail was barren for like a year.

One thing I learned during that time? Certain neighborhoods are unaffected. The road to Invalides, where the Ministre Outre Mer is, got trashed one particular day. The area was deathly quiet after those protests. Wet from the water cannons, no cars were allowed. It was like the protestors had violated some unwritten law. Since then I’ve noticed they’ve not let protests happen in this area.

But back to 2016, when I learned that no matter how socialist Paris is, there are still the haves and have nots. Observatoire is a really beautiful street. I don't give Paris many compliments but the horse fountain in the summer is stunning. If you stand at one particular spot on the road outside Jardin Marco Polo all of the statues line up in such a way that it points to Luxembourg Palace with Sacre Couer looming above.

It is also a border street. It turns into, but also runs parallel, to boulevard Saint Michel, and avenue Georges Bernanos at weird angles, so despite my front door opening to it, I never knew which of the three roads in front of my building were considered which. One side of Saint Michel is the 6th and one side is the 5th. I lived on the 6th side of the street so when I walked on my side there was no trash. Garbage men came every night. But if you crossed the street? Piles and piles and dead rats.

From 2015-2018 I worked in Gros Caillou in the 7th, and lived there from 2016-2018. The area was in constant turmoil between strikes, the World Cup, the Champions League, and whatever period Macron and Fillon were in contention for the Presidency. Both of them lived in Gros Caillou (Macron on the ugly end of rue Cler and Fillion on square la Tour Maubourg, which is not a square), and it was chaos. But guess who always had trash pick up every night despite?

Which brings us to today. News of trash is everywhere. Photos of what looks like New York City is actually Paris. Last week was Fashion Week so they chose the right time to embarrass the city. But let’s be real, those celebs are not treking to Bercy. They’re staying in idolized Paris, where this stuff doesn’t happen.

For now my neighborhood is unaffected. Again. The trash men come right on time, every night between 7 and 8. I have since learned that we have Rachida Dati to thank for that. She has been Mairie of the 7th since 2008, and was politicking during those infamous 2016 strikes as well.

It turns out that Paris does not operate how I thought. I always assumed the Propreté ran and operated all of Paris (the 75, the 20 districts). Turns out that’s not how it works.

Thanks to Kitty Schrödinger on Twitter I learned of Rachida Dati. Cursory glance shows she serves looks, we stan, and worked under Sarkozy (do not stan). I looked at her tweets and learned she really hates Hidalgo (who doesn’t) and that she has vowed that she will always ensure the streets are clean even during strikes. That’s because the 7th is run by a private company called Derichbourg.

I really thought it was a government conspiracy because the 7th is home to some of the wealthiest people in Paris; the L’Oreal heir, the Louis Vuitton heir, the Estée Lauder heiress, those two old ladies who own that empty building near Champs de Mars, and the Qatar owned property on Quai d’Orsay which is an entire palace with a basketball hoop in the driveway. Money influences power, but perhaps not entirely in this case. Derichbourg is operating in the 1st, 4th, 3rd, 10th, and 18th, in addition to the 7th.

I know there are some pretty disgusting pockets of Paris (members of my women’s group are posting wild photos of particularly bad streets). But now I know a little more about the individual politics. Some districts are serviced by public workers, and some are serviced by private companies.

As I type this story the street cleaners are currently doing their daily cleanings outside my window. I’m still not sure how the Mairies are able to work independently of the city of Paris, but I’ll keep learning. I'm going to dig in a bit more into the politics of my area and the people who run it, but thanks Rachida Dati. The 7th stays proving why it is the best place to live.

World Bank: Sharpest Drop in Commodity Prices Since Pandemic

Global commodity prices are expected to decline this year at the fastest clip since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, clouding the growth prospects of almost two-thirds of developing economies that depend on commodity exports, according to the World Bank’s latest Commodity Markets Outlook report. The drop in prices, however, is expected to bring little relief to the nearly 350 million people across the world who face food insecurity. Although food prices are expected to fall by 8% in 2023, they will be at the second-highest level since 1975. Moreover, as of February this year, annual food price inflation is at 20% globally, the highest level over the past two decades.

"However, central bankers need to remain vigilant as a wide range of factors, including weaker-than-expected oil supply, a more commodity-intensive recovery in China, an intensification of geopolitical tensions, or unfavorable weather conditions, could push prices higher and reignite inflationary pressures.” Despite the large declines expected this year, prices of all major commodity groups will remain well above their 2015-2019 average levels. European natural gas prices will hover at almost three times the average in 2015-19. Energy and coal prices will also remain above the pre-pandemic average. Valerie Mercer-Blackman, Lead Economist in the World Bank’s Prospects Group said: “Metal prices, which increased slightly early in the year, are expected to fall by 8% relative to last year, primarily because of weak global demand and improved supplies,” “In the longer term, however, the energy transition could significantly lift the demand for some metals, notably lithium, copper, and nickel.” A Special Focus section of the report evaluates the performance of a wide range of approaches used to forecast prices of seven industrial commodities (oil and six industrial metals). A key finding of the study is that futures prices, which are widely used for price forecasts, often lead to large forecast errors. Econometric models based on multiple independent variables tend to outperform other approaches as well as futures prices. The analysis suggests that augmenting model-based forecasting approaches—by incorporating the dynamics of commodity prices over time and controlling for other economic factors—enhances forecast accuracy. Disgraced Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin Pleads Guilty to Federal Tax Evasion

The charges continue to pile up for former police officer Derek Chauvin. In 2021, the disgraced law enforcement official was found guilty of the murder of George Floyd. The brutal May 25, 2020 death of the Black man sparked social justice protests worldwide — but Chauvin’s troubles aren’t done yet.

He admitted to two counts of aiding and abetting tax fraud, after he and his now ex-wife underreported their taxable income between 2014-19.

Chauvin was sentenced to 13 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution.

The May 2020 killing of Floyd, an unarmed black man, led to mass protests around the United States. Chauvin and his ex-wife, Kellie May Chauvin, were charged with tax crimes shortly after Floyd’s killing. She pleaded guilty to the same charges last month, and is expected to be sentenced to community service at a hearing in May.

The disgraced ex-officer entered his plea on Friday in a virtual hearing from a federal prison in Tucson, Arizona.

Chauvin worked part-time security jobs that were separate to his work as a police officer, and failed to report to tax officials over $95,000 (£78,000) in cash payments that he received for the work. Kelly Chauvin, who filed for divorce after murder charges were announced, worked as a real estate agent and ran a photo business.

The charges cover a time period when they were married and filing taxes jointly. According to the Minneapolis Star Tribunenewspaper, officials began to suspect tax fraud after interviews with Chauvin’s father, an accountant who prepared his 2014-15 taxes.

One day after tax documents were taken from Chauvin’s home by detectives, Kellie Chauvin called his husband in jail to say that investigators were looking into their tax returns. Chauvin suggested they get help from the person “who we have used to handle for many years”, the newspaper reports.

She responded: “Yeah, well we don’t want to get your dad involved because he will just be mad at me, I mean us for not doing them for years.”

The probe uncovered that the Chauvins did not report their entire income in 2014 and 2015, and did not file tax returns at all in 2016, 2017, or 2018.

The couple ultimately failed to pay more than $20,000 and have been ordered to pay state tax officials nearly $38,000 in restitution.

Friday’s sentence will run concurrently with the murder conviction, as well as Chauvin’s later 20-year sentence for violating Floyd’s civil rights during the murder.

Well, one thing about only catching the animatics for the finale of Ladybug, no spoilers because you will enjoy it, is that you can't tell who some of the characters are. And if you've seen them the sudden voice shifts, you know what I mean, animation students should see them eventually. But the last plot twist I couldn't tell who it was until I saw a script and... Remember what Timetager told Hawkmoth? I'll just leave it at that.

Between animatics and scripts I have the whole season and I've been rewatching it in order. After I finish this I'm thinking I'll try and finish the first season of Picard, it drags deal with it. Trying to fit Umbrella Academy in there. Honestly I haven't watched any of it in nearly two years because I followed Robert Shenanigans somewhere and we got lost in the floof.

My anxiety, past experiences, and anxiety allow me to personally spoil things but I won't spoil them for you.

I might not have even got past the middle of the first season of Primal for now but I had to know what happens to Fang before I could progress. I care about my fictional dinosaurs.

The right version of The White Cat/The Cat Bride will get to me.

Almost did some art yesterday, it was a batlte against something my body decide to be allergic to about its self, maybe I'll get to some today. Did some more tracings.

Got to get in to the sketch books and see if there's one I want to turn in to a personal coloring book of sorts. One idea is to do tracings/projections so I can just open a page, put a drawing board behind it, and draw. Another idea is to put the tracings on one side of the page spreads and do them in graphite then later do the other side free hand in color.

I did a spread in one of my books where I copied something but only used my drawing as a reference instead of the photo and it came out good.

Not sure if I'm going out and doing real life today yet but if I do that'll take up the middle of it.

So you are right that an issue caused me to buy the software, but now they are getting data from lens that I did not think were a problem previously. I will continue to do this for every new lens I get or rent. From that point on, I have ran every lens through the software regardless of my perception of its performance beforehand. I purchased this software to check that lens. I had poor results with one of my old lens when I switched to a new body. You are also ignoring the impact of DoF and perception of sharpness. Most people only buy Reikan when they believe they have a problem which means that you are reading from a self-selecting population. Alternative reading: A vast majority of lenses do not need adjustment. Alot of people send their lenses back to the manufacturer thinking they have a faulty lens when they get lackluster performance though it is camera body dependant too. Though these tests clearly show they are not that accurate as the general consensus is. There is a general perception that third party lenses need calibration more than the first party lenses like Canon. FoCal takes all the guesswork out of adjusting your lenses, so for the sake of a few minutes with each lens it really is worth it to get the best from your kit. This time, the left side of the chart is a bad place to be.

The yellow chart above Percentage requiring very little calibration shows the percentage of lenses that fall somewhere between Calibrated and 2 point error. I keep mentioning tiny, small and large calibration differences, but what do these actually look like? The images below show the difference between a well calibrated lens, and an offset of 2 points barely any noticeable differencea 10 point error significantly blurredand a 20 point error hugely blurred. So now only 1 in 4 lenses will see a significant improvement remember, the other 3 will probably still see an improvement, just not huge. Life's been really tough recently. I've been so sad. I cry all the time. I don't really know how to fix all of this. It seems like the last seven or eight years I've spent all of my time and energy trying to "right the ship." Get things on track.

As a child our life was constantly in a state of chaos. My mom, a drug addict and alcoholic, would get us in terrible situations. Then she would pull it together for awhile. She would tell me "baby steps." I hated hearing that every single time. When I got older I told her no, it's not baby steps! It's one step forward and two steps back! We never really get anywhere.

That's how it feels like my life is right now. Just caught in a shitty loop and never really moving forward to something better. Can't get financially stable, can't keep up with the house work, can't keep up with my workload, can't keep up with my daily responsibilities. Just failing at everything all the time. Also, doing it alone.

I've been a single mom very nearly the entire time. My oldest daughter's father was never around. My ex-husband and I split when my youngest daughter was 3. He's still there for them in certain ways. As far as parenting goes though that's on me. We got into a fight recently about it. I told him the stress of having everything on my shoulders was difficult for me. That it would help if he shared some of the parenting responsibilities. He more or less just shrugged it off.

My best friend and I have... I guess we aren't really talking anymore. We've been friends for over 20 years, but the last year or so she's been distant. I've been doing most of the texting and recently I would text her 7 or 8 times a day and maybe get one message back. Maybe no reply at all. She would say she's just busy, this or that. But, I would see her on Facebook or Instagram. I guess it takes a while for me to take a hint. Anyway, I just stopped texting her.

I still haven't spoken to my sister since our "fight". My oldest daughter is very upset with me about it. She thinks I should just apologize to her. I told her I'm sorry but not this time. I've been trying to develop a closer relationship with my sister for years now. I worked really hard to make time, be supportive, go out of my way ect. It was never reciprocated. She would still not invite us to gatherings, or not include pics of my kids in her family photos. We got in a few arguments and every time I would just swallow my pride and apologize for whatever to keep the peace. If my sister cared she would be putting in the effort as well. She isn't. Sometimes it just is what it is.

Of course, that's created even more tension between my oldest daughter and me. It seems like she's always had a bone to pick with me, even when she was little. Years ago, when she was giving me an especially hard time, I called my ex husband sobbing. I told him I don't understand why she's so cruel to me sometimes. He said that her real dad was never around and he himself left, the only one she had to take it out on was me. I don't know if that's true but I try to keep that in mind. Especially when things get really hard.
