A/n: Can we get back to mob stuff? Please. I want to apologize for this chapter, it is absolute shit and I could tell by writing it. Kind of a filler chapter. Sorry it is long.

Chapter 13: Revenge Never Felt So Good

It had been a week, since you got your memories back and you declared your love for Tom once more. Right after that, you and Tom were on the first train to Paris, refusing to fly for awhile.

You and Tom returned last night, just in time to see Parker and Rosie off to school the next morning. While you and Tom had been enjoying a second honeymoon in the city of love, Nikki and Dom so graciously offered to watch the kids. Everything was falling back into full swing. Parker and Rosie were going to school regularly. Rosie spending all her time with Henry and Parker still living his secret double life.

Things going back to normal. Somewhat.

It was a typical morning, but anytime everyone every thinks that, something gets massively screwed up. You woke up early to make pancakes and bacon.

“So what is plan for everyone today?” You asked, sipping at your steaming cup of coffee.

“Well, Rosie and I have school,” Parker explained.

“I have plans with Henry,” Rosie chimed in.

“I have meetings all day, love.” Tom said, pressing a gentle kiss to your cheek.

“Ok, so I’m all alone today,” you muttered, a little disappointed.

“I’m sorry darling, you could join me. You know much I love it when you sit in my lap during meetings. Really show them who’s boss,” Tom said, wrapping you in his embrace.

“No, it’s ok. I have some errands to run anyway.”

“Alright, angel. I love you. I’ll see you for dinner.”

“I love you too. Come on, kids. In the car we go.” You said, pushing everyone out the door.

“Why is Jared not driving?” Parker asked.

“Cause, I have errands to run and besides he’s driving your dad today.”

“Now let’s go.” You said as Parker and Rosie hopped into the car.

Tom was having a hard time returning to his mob personality. Some business was conducted in Paris, you tagged along and enjoyed every minute of it. Tom sometimes overcompensated for not being as dangerous and intimidating. He had grown soft taking care of you after the helicopter crash. Helping you get your memory took most of his time, he had to step away from the mob for awhile. But you were his top priority.

Tom couldn’t remember the last time he sat in his office doing business. He missed it. He missed the thrill of torturing someone, having them beg for their life in front of him. He missed the feeling of firing his gun.

“Tom, you’re late,” Haz said as Tom got out of the car.

“Sorry not sorry Haz, I enjoyed breakfast with Y/N and the kids this morning,” Tom responded.

“I have to tell you something.”

“What? It’s never good news if it’s right when I get here.”

“We’re down two more.” Harrison mumbled referring to then decreasing number of soldiers part of the Holland Empire.

“Are you fucking serious? Haz, I’m so fucking tired of this bullshit. My men are getting fucking killed. Everything has gone to shit,” Tom screamed, enraged.

“Tom, we’ll figure it out. Just need to keep your cool.” Haz said, trying to avoid Tom’s wrath.

“Easier said than done. Alright, who’s here,” Tom asked, trying to forget about everything else.

“William.” Haz said with a straight face.

“What? Why? He’s always been loyal,” Tom questioned. One of his most valuable men, working against him, the rat?

“I got word from the soldiers he has been taking bribes from Parker,” Harrison explained.

“What the fuck for? Well, I guess we’ll find out.” Tom said, walking into the main room of the warehouse.

“William, I’d never thought it would be you in this chair.” Tom said, walking up to one of his most trusted employees.

“Tom, you gotta believe me. I didn’t do anything. I’m not the rat,” William pleaded. He knew what had been happening to the mob.

“Did you or did you not take money from Parker?” Tom asked.

“Yes, he just wanted to get out of the manor at night. So, he paid me to turn a blind eye.”

“Where was he going?”

“I don’t know, I assumed to some girl’s house.” “William, I trust you. So I’m going to let you off with a warning, but you can’t let him sneak out anymore. I’m afraid we are being targeted. If he tries to leave, you have to tell me.”

“Yes, boss. I’m sorry.” William apologized.

“It’s ok, but you understand what needs to happen right? I can’t be looking like I’ve gone soft,” Tom asserted.

“Yeah, I can take it. It’s ok,” William said, gritting his teeth as he waited for the collision of Tom’s fist to his cheek. Tom winded up to deliver one swift punch to William’s left eye. Not breaking the skin but creating a dark purple blotch.

All of Tom’s frustrations have been channeled into his mob duties. Each punch riddled with anger and frustration. A release of catharsis combined with blood. Tom wears the smell of blood and death like a perfume.

The rest of the day was full of uneventful meetings. Meetings with business associates, actual business associates for the company.

When Tom came home, he planned to confront Parker about his whereabouts if he tried to sneak out again. Everyone retired, you went to sleep first and Rosie went to her room. Parker said, he was going to bed but Tom could see right through him.

Tom was sitting in the den, sipping a glass of watered down whiskey. Waiting for his son to disobey him. At 11:55 PM, Parker made his way downstairs ever so slightly. Only to be met with the dagger eyes of Tom.

“Where the fuck do you think you are going?” Tom asked as Parker tried to sneakily leave.

“I… I thought I heard noise outside and I’m going to go check on it,” Parker stammered. Getting caught by Tom was not part of the plan.

“Oh, ok. Parker the guards can do that. Go back to bed.” Tom said, turning back to the TV in the den, broadcasting Raiders of the Lost Ark.

“Ok. Night, dad,” Parker said, trudging himself back up the steps.

“Night…. I know, you’re lying,” Tom whispered loud enough for Parker to hear.

“What? I’m not lying.”

“Parker, I know you’ve sneaking out for weeks and bribing William.”

“Dad, I’m sorry,” Parker immediately started apologizing, no bother in trying to lie himself out of this one.

“Why have you been sneaking out?” Tom questioned, seething with anger but refusing to show it. Trying to have a mature adult conversation.

“I’ve been going to a girl’s house, her name is Jamie.”

“Oh, glad you find someone. You know after everything with Charlotte,” Tom replied.

“Well since I told you the truth, can I go? We made the plan a couple days ago and don’t want to cancel,” Parker lied.

“Alright, just be back before sunrise or your mother will have may head,” Tom informed him.

“Thanks dad, you should get some sleep,” Parker said, making his way out of the heavily guarded house.

Parker left as quickly as possible. He knew Wilson would be pissed for him being late. The talk with Tom was not how this was supposed to happen.

He couldn’t betray his family and himself anymore.

Parker hoped this was the last time he would have to talk to him. He planned to quit, after the conversation with Dom. Parker had become everything he hated, someone who kills for sport.

“Wilson, this is the last thing I’m doing then, I’m out,” Parker said, walking towards Wilson.

“We’ll talk about it later, my boy,” Wilson said, patting Parker’s shoulder.

“Alright who am I killing? You never gave me a target.” Parker shouted at Wilson walking.

“Oh, this isn’t a hit, it’s a robbery. Here’s your new firearm,” One of Wilson’s men explained, tossing a MP5K at him.

“You okay kid? You know if you’re too much of pussy the boss might understand,” jeered one of the men as Parker gulped at the size of the weapon.

“Fuck you, I’m fine. Let’s just get this over with,” Parker barked, trying to put his mind aside. He has never done anything like this. It wasn’t just one person he was killing, it was the possibility of having many causalities. Altering his persona from a hitman to a mass murderer.

A million thoughts flooded Parker’s mind. He wouldn’t be killing people who deserved it like before, contract killers or drug dealers, these were innocent people. Stupid people for gambling all their hard earned money away but nonetheless innocent.

Parker’s heart nearly stopped when he saw where the van pulled up to. A place he knew all too well, it was one of Tom’s casinos.

The company that Dom had built, but all the Holland boys sent thriving in the new century, was more than it seemed. Holland Exportation and Luxuries was much more than exporting goods.

It was casinos that ran all along the French Riviera, more specifically Monaco. It was hotels across the entire globe. It was a business but not the family one. More of a front for the mob but it paid the bills. Harry and Sam had been in charge of running and establishing the hotels and casinos across Europe.

“Y’know your way around, right? That’s why the boss put you on this.” One of men asked Parker as he fiddled with his new machine gun.

“I guess so.” Parker replied.

“Here’s a map. Where are the guards? Which posts?” Asked a soldier, pointing to the main entrance hallways, where security was sure to be.

“I don’t know.”

“So we’re going in there fucking blind? Fuck, thought you’d be good for something. Just stay out of our way,” yelled one of the capos.

“No. I’m taking point. If you have a problem, you can fucking talk to me about it along with my Glock,” Parker threatened.

“Alright. Don’t screw this up. The boss wants big bucks from this. Says “it’s step two in the fall of the empire.” Whatever the fuck that means.”

“On my count, 1, 2… 3,” Parker screamed.

They came storming in, barricading all the entrances and exits. Parker and Wilson’s men clad in all black and payday masks. All various colors and designs. They looked as they were trick or treating.

This was the last thing Parker wanted to be doing. He came today to quit and now he was robbing a casino.

Parker kept repeating a mantra in his head “Last one, then I’m done” as held his gun high. Pointing it directly at innocents, he could see them shaking in fear.

“EVERYONE ON THE GROUND NOW!” He shouted, aiming his machine gun high.

“Don’t you fucking touch that button. I know what it fucking does.” Parker barks at the person behind the token counter. “Open the vault.” Parker said, pointing the gun at him.

“Why should I?” remarked the worker.

“Cause I fucking said so and I’m threatening your life,” Parker explained

“Enough of this shit!” He screamed, firing a few rounds close to the worker but not hitting him.

“You don’t have to do this. You could walk out of here, all of you. And we could go on with our lives. No need for money or the cops.”

“I think we both know that’s not gonna happen. I’ll ask nicely, please open the vault,” Parker mocked. “Boss said “start killing hostages in 10 minutes.” One of the other men whispered in Parker’s ear.

“Did you fucking hear that? We’re gonna fucking kill you if you don’t cooperate. So I suggest you open… the fucking… vault.”

“Sir, we can’t.”

“See this gun. LOOK AT IT! It has the power to put a bullet through your skull. Open the fucking vault. I won’t ask a fifth time.”

“That’s it. Now, type in the code.” Parker directed towards them.

The vault door creaked open, revealing trappings of pure wealth. Money stacked on tables, almost reaching the ceiling. And gold bars, glistened as the light reflected off of them.

“Now was that so fucking hard. Take all of it. Everything, even the gold.” Parker said, directly towards his men.

“Thank you, you’ve served you purpose,” Parker said to the worker, shooting him dead not even 3 seconds later. The screams of the other hostages echoed through the vacated room.

“Now to everyone here, there’s already one dead. I don’t mind making it more,” Parker barked.

“What’s your name?” Parker asked the nice looking girl kneeling on the ground.

“It’s not nice to not answer when someone asks you question, especially someone with a 9 caliber MP5K in your face. I ask again. What’s your name?” Parker spoke.

“Jane,” she whispered, shaking with fear.

“Well Jane, I want to thank you for your cooperation. You are in charge of talking to the cops, ok? And let your boss know, that Wilson is always watching,” Parker said, as he turned to leave.

“I will but you won’t get as far as you hoped,” Jane asserted, trying not to irritate Parker.

“And why’s that?”

“I know you. I remember you. You’d come in here with your dad.”

“You don’t know fucking shit!” Parker screamed.

“I know your name and that puts me at a high position of power,” Jane expressed, growing less afraid by the second. Realizing he is just some scared boy. Maybe not afraid of his own shadow but broken down by the fear of the world.

“I’m the one pressing fucking gun to your head. I HAVE ALL THE POWER!” Parker vociferated loud enough to shake the chandelier hanging above.

“You wish. Men like you always wish.”

“Seems like you’re doing some wishing yourself sweetheart. Wishing to be escorted out of here in a body bag. Now shut your fucking trap.”

“Hey. Let’s go. Leave her.” One of the Wilson’s men said, pulling Parker towards the exit.

“He still loves you and he’ll forgive you for this,” Jane shouted as Parker left.

Refusing to turn back, he had taken enough lives from this ill attempt at revenge. Parker didn’t know who he was fighting against anymore. Who was the hero and who was the villain?

All the wrongdoings as vast as the sea. All his attempts to make someone pay were misconstrued. Who actually deserved it?

The words of the woman replayed in Parker’s head. She was like a broken record, forcing him to listen to a truth he hoped to forget. How could Tom forgive him? Parker knew what he done was unforgivable. It was a mistake, all of it.

Parker marched into Wilson’s office and said, “Ever since I started working for you, my family has been in danger. I thought my dad was the reason for my girlfriends death, but I was wrong. I guess I’ll never know. Here Wilson, my gun. I quit.”

“What the fuck do you think you’re doing? I own you. I could end you, boy. Just like I almost did your parents,” Wilson barked.

“What?” Parker questioned, a look of confusion are on his face.

“Oh, please. You really think it was just a malfunction,” Wilson scoffed.

“What are you talking about?” Parker asked.

“Their helicopter. Pretty brilliant work, if I do say so myself,” Wilson gloated.

“They almost died.”

“Yeah and so? Your dad is my enemy. That is the whole reason you came to me in the first place.”

“You promised you wouldn’t hurt them,” Parker screamed. “Promises are meant to be broken. They don’t call me the Merchant of Death for nothing.”

Wilson was ready for the fight and been the one pulling the strings the entire time. Tom warranted no quarrel. Never being the instigator in a fight with Wilson.

They had been divided for years to come, focusing on their separate mobs. Only acknowledging each other if they accidentally crossed paths. There was Wilson’s mob, then a few others scattered round London such as Graham’s which was almost non-existent and Shaw’s which was mostly the drug scene. But Wilson was Tom’s biggest competitor. Being a part of then game for years before didn’t matter, Tom eclipsed Wilson just like the sun does the moon.

Or the moon to the sun, that was exactly Wilson’s play from the start. Taking out the pillars of Tom’s life. First a reason to have his son turn on him, the death of a loved one. Next, removing you from Tom’s grasp. Eventually a play had to be made on Rosie. Leaving Tom utterly alone.

Only thoughts that would cross his mind be suicidal ones, having lost everything he ever cared about. It was a long play, one Wilson vowed to see through. Wilson saw all his work as justice and merciful. Almost biblical, they way everything was playing out.

“It was you. All along. The fucking puppet master,” Parker mumbled under his breath.

“If you are talking about your little girlfriend, that was strictly business, nothing personal. But yes, I have been the one behind the scenes driving your father mad. Remember the note?” Wilson exclaimed.

“She didn’t deserve to die,” Parker shouted.

“What? Are you really upset? That was ages ago. Plus, I had to get you on my side somehow,” Wilson teased.

“Wait, you knew I’d come here?”

“Parker, how stupid are you? When will you grow up and learn this rivalry is just the beginning of a war. What side are you going to be on? You have a choice. I’ve warmed to you and I want you on my side as I take your daddy down.”

“That’s your first fucking mistake don’t have any weaknesses,” Parker admitted, taking a lesson from Tom. He drew is gun, point blank at Wilson.

“Parker, what are you doing? Put the gun down,” Wilson pleaded for his life.

“No, you made me into a cold blooded killer. Not my dad. I quit.”

BANG

After a loud thud sounded, the room was silent. Only a faint smell of smoke from the gun was there as Parker fled as quickly as possible.

Parker made his way home that night a changed man. All his kills in the pass were strictly business. Never driven by emotion but this one was personal.

It wasn’t a job or a hit. He was no longer a contract killer. Killing for the sake of money or an obligation. He was cold blooded killer.

In some twisted way, Parker enjoyed Wilson and his company. Looking up to him. He was then one who saved him from the horrible life he thought he was leaving behind. The one full of deceit and betrayal. The one with Tom, you and Rosie.

The one that led him to be next leader of the Holland mob. The one that resulted in the death of his beloved girlfriend. The one that had almost taken you and Tom away from him. The one that almost took his life. The one that forced him to kill for sport.

But no, he was wrong Parker brought that on himself. Parker’s naivety was his greatest enemy. He was just a child not too long ago. Once afraid of his own shadow, then afraid of failing at life and school, especially the SATs. Now, he was an adult burdened by problems a 16 year old should ever face. He could sit there and blame Tom, but it would do him no good when all he had to do was look in the mirror.

Parker was his own worst enemy. Searching for justice, when none could be found in a world wear mobsters roamed. Causing shootouts, robbing banks, and killing innocent people. People deserved to be avenged and Parker sure as hell wasn’t doing anything to aide.

Parker drove home, took four showers and threw his clothes away. Anything to wash off this abhorrent day. The next morning, Parker went on like nothing had changed. As if he didn’t shoot his boss and Tom’s rival in cold blood. As if didn’t only see himself as a cold blooded killer. Everything that he is and everything he owns soiled with the scent of murder.

He played it as though it was any other morning. Eating his pancakes and bacon before starting the day. Telling you about his plans for the day. Trying to keep his cool. The lovely morning breakfast conversation was interrupted once Tom’s phone rang.

RING, RING, RING

“Haz, why are you calling me? I’m having breakfast with my family,” Tom asked, annoyed his precious breakfast was interrupted. “Charlie is here, you need to get here. I have to tell you something,” Haz informed Tom. “Ok, I’m on my way,” Tom said, brushing off the request. Why would the

company’s electrical engineer for aeronautical transportation be there?

“Love, I’m so sorry but I’m needed at the warehouse. Thank you for this wonderful breakfast, wish I could enjoy it. Bye, kids. Have a good day at school,” Tom said, making his way out the door. Bidding you all goodbye.

“Haz, what’s was so urgent that I couldn’t finish my breakfast.” Tom barked, annoyed he was pulled away from you and the kids even on a Saturday.

“We were robbed last night. The casino.” Haz explained, his head hanging low.

“How the fuck? Did they catch them?” Tom seethed with anger.

“No, we do have eye witnesses though.”

“How much is missing?”

“About 11 million dollars, from cash to gold bars.” Haz said, waiting for Tom to explode.

“FUCK. We need to make them pay. I’m done playing fucking games.” Tom shouted, calming himself down for his meeting with Charlie.

“Now, you said Charlie was here, right?”

“Yeah, in your office.”

“Charlie? What are you doing here?” Tom asked, a little annoyed he was taken away from his morning with his family.

“Tom, I ran my report and did diagnostics tests and it’s not good,” Charlie started.

“What the fuck does that mean, Charlie?” Tom yelled.

“I think the helicopter was sabotaged.”

“What? You mean is that someone tried to take out my wife and I while we were on a helicopter,” Tom repeated, making all the connections necessary .

“Yes, it wasn’t just a normal malfunction. Did they ever find the pilot?” Charlie asked.

“No… Jesus fucking christ, if it’s true then…Fuck, I’m sorry I have to go,” Tom yelled, running out to the car.

“Jared, home now.”

“Mr. Holland is everything alright?” Jared asked, concerned by Tom’s frantic manner.

“No. I just found out the helicopter was sabotaged. I think someone might being trying to take out Y/N and I.”

“Come on baby, pick up,” Tom whispered, frantically dialing your number over and over.

“Y/N answer the god damm phone!” Tom shouted, when heard the same voice message over and over again, “Hi, this Y/N Holland please leave your name and number and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.”

“God fucking dammit. Fuck, voicemail. Jared do you know where my wife is?” Tom yelled, afraid what your silence meant.

“Last I heard she was at the store getting groceries,” Jared explained.

“Fuck, I have here location on my phone. Change course,” Tom barked, praying you were okay. With the information he just learned he didn’t want to leave you alone, not even for a second.

“Y/N! You’re okay.” Tom said, inhaling a breath of relief. You were coming out of the store pushing a cart of groceries.

“Tom! Of course, I’m okay. What are you doing here?” You asked.

“I’ll explain later. Get Parker and Rosie we need to go home now.”

“They’re already home. Henry’s there also. You’re scaring me.” You said, Tom never acts like this.

Being a part of a mob there is a constant fear of someone behind you. All throughout Tom’s life he only had to worry about himself until he met you.

Tom’s worst fear is him being the reason you no longer walk the earth. The last week he had glimpse of life without you and didn’t care for it one bit. You weren’t a weakness but at the same time, you were. For anyone with a dangerous job there’s always a target on your back.

“Come on, love. In the car,” Tom motioned towards the car.

“Tommy, my car is here. I’ll meet you there,” you said, kissing his cheek goodbye.

“Ok just be careful please.”

“I’ll be fine.”

“Ok, Jared. Home now plea—“ Tom directed but was cut off by a loud BOOM.

“Jared, what the fuck was that?” Tom asked.

“Sir, it was Mrs. Holland’s car.”

“Y/N! Y/N?” Tom jumped out of the car. Nothing else mattered in that moment, only finding you.

Time stood still as thick black smoke bled through the air. Coating everything in its path with a faint ash. Screams echoed from the bystanders as the car went up in flames.

“Tom, I’m okay. It wasn’t mine.” You exasperated, coughing from the smoke. It wasn’t your car but it was close in proximity.

“Thank god. I can’t keep almost losing you,” Tom whispered, kissing you hairline.

“I’m here now.” The second you were in his arms you knew you were safe.

“Yes you are. It sure does look hell a lot like yours, though. Come on, I’m taking you home,” Tom said, wrapping his right arm around your shoulder.

Pulling up to the manor, everything looked different. There were more guards posted at every corner with heavier weaponry. Tom had the gate barricaded with another car in case some where to ram into the gate.

“Jesus, what took you so long?” Haz said

“They tried to bomb Y/N’s car. Thankfully the dumb fucks who planted it, picked the wrong car.”

“Tom you need to tell me what’s going on.”

“I will. Family meeting in the living room. Now.”

“Some of us have some secrets to share. I want to know everything that happened here while your mother and I were in Paris. Someone start talking,” Tom said, pacing in front of Parker and Rosie sitting on the couch.

Rosie and Parker were both hiding something. Rosie’s however was a rather monumental milestone. Rosie reminisced of her wonderful night with Henry while you and Tom were away. She loved Henry so much and was overjoyed to share that experience with him.

Rosie had told Henry at the wedding that she was ready to take that next step with him. Seeing you and Tom re-commit yourselves to one another affirmed that for Rosie. That she loved him more than anything.

“I’m sorry, dad. You don’t have to worry, we were safe,” Rosie blurted out.

“What?” Tom barked growing more anger by the second.

“Henry and I used a condom,” Rosie responded.

“Rosie?” You questioned, knowing what she was talking about.

“WHAT?” Tom screamed.

“That’s not what you were hinting at?” Rosie stammered.

“No, this is about Parker,” Tom reckoned.

“Fuck,” she mumbled under her breath.

“Where the fuck is he?” Tom yelled, bolting out of the living room. Looking for the boy who had stolen Rosie’s innocence. You and Rosie soon followed hoping Tom wouldn’t do anything rash.

“Dad!”

“Tom!”

“Henry, you bastard! You fucked my daughter!” Tom shouted charging at Henry.

“Oh shit,” Henry muttered, he knew Tom could kill him in an instant.

“You went in my daughter! What’s stopping me from killing you right now.” Tom asked with gritted teeth, hoping this dumbass wouldn’t answer.

“Tom, put him down,” you said, as Tom was gripping his collar and dangling him in the air.

“Daaaadddd.”

“Tom, please,” you pleaded as Tom held a gun square to Henry’s head.

“The safety is on, I was never gonna shoot him. Just make him shit his pants a little. From now on, you two can’t be here alone. And if you are in your room the door needs to stay open,” Tom said, pointing fingers at Rosie and Henry.

“I believe we have more important business to get to. Now come on,” you said, pulling Tom away.

“Y/N, you know I was never going to actually hurt the boy right?”

“Yes, Tommy. Now please resume the family meeting.”

“Parker. Do you have something to tell us?” Tom asked, knowing his son will lie.

“I’ve been sneaking out at night and I’m sorry,” Parker started, you could hear the disappointment behind his voice.

“Why? I know it’s not because of a girl. I want to know everything,” Tom explained, fucking tired of all the lies.

“Everything?”

“Everything.”

Parker began by explaining how he felt by the loss of Charlotte and how he turned to Wilson. In Parker’s mind he was doing the right thing. Serving justice to those who wronged others. But in reality he was the one committing the wrongdoings.

Parker came clean that he was the one killing all of Tom’s men and that he killed Jazz. That he went Wilson before coming to Tom. Becoming Wilson’s secret hitman was never supposed to go this far. Hakuoki Yuugiroku 3 Fall Saito Story

managed to recover my first post of the year which seemed to have disappeared from tumblr via exporting it…

hope everyone had a safe and happy new year… recently hit 500 followers over the holidays so I’d like to say thanks for appreciating the stuff I’ve uploaded and my translations (I kinda feel the need to say this but: I am an adult who occasionally uses crude language so please be aware of that. Also, i don’t run an image-focused blog. i only wanted to post everything that I thought wasn’t available as clean images online so that people would be able to find and access more Hakuoki content… and i do believe i have done that for the most part).

Threw together a list of things that I hope translate this year into in one of my other posts today… here’s hoping that it will be less volatile than 2020… tho im not expecting much given the news yesterday though i can’t say that i didn’t expect it.

Anyway. translation. Story from the 3rd Yuugiroku game.

The CN of the title I have for this translates to the effect of “The fate/return/destination of (a) migratory bird(s),” which I think looks weird and I’m not sure how accurate that tl is, so I’m just going to categorize these stories by season and char lol. not that it’ll be any time soon before I go and translate another one of these since this did feel quite long…. and it’s not like anyone else is translating these (please someone translate these xD there are 2 side stories per route and i am not looking forward to torturing myself with them!).

also, a significant portion of the punctuation and stuff wasn’t used in the tl i found for this, so that will be reflected in this… will fix it later.

Hakuoki Yuugiroku 3 - Fall Saito Story

That day I was delivering Hijikata-san’s message and came to Saito-san’s room.

Yukimura Chizuru: Saito-san, are you there?

[I] Called him from outside his door but he didn’t seem to hear me.

Did he go out?

But the other warriors clearly stated that he was in the room.

Using a slightly louder voice, I called again.

Yukimura Chizuru: Ah, Saito-san are you there?

Saito: Yukimura, is there something [you need]?

Yukimura Chizuru: Hijikata-san said that he had something to say to Saito-san so I was asked to get you.

Saito: Vice-commander? I see.

I got it/I understand I will go at once, you’ve worked hard, Yukimura. [I’ll check the game for punctuation later….probably?]

Yukimura: It’s rare, for Saito-san didn’t hear me calling you.

Saito: I was concentrating, [and] I didn’t hear your voice.

Yukimura: Concentrating? Was it on sword maintenance?

Saito: nn, more or less.

Yukimura: ．．．．．．？

It was rare for Saito-san to answer questions in such vague terms.

Saito: Isn’t (the) vice-commander calling me? I’ll hurry up.

Saito: You can go back.

Yukimura: I understand, then I’ll be going now.

I gently lowered my head and prepared to leave Saito-san’s side.

Yukimura:．．．．．．

His unusual mood made me feel a little worried.

Afterwards at dinner, there was a strange/unusual incident.

Saito-san who finished eating earlier than everyone else set down his chopsticks.

Heisuke: What’s wrong are you already full Hajime-kun?/Hajime-kun you’re already full?

Saito ……Nn.

Yukimura: There’s more of Saito-san’s favourite tofu.

Saito: I’ve had enough for now, I’ll be leaving first.

Leaving behind those words, Saito-san bought his plate into the kitchen.

Nagakura: What’s wrong with Saito? It’s simply unfathomable for him to only eat a small portion of tofu.

Harada: It doesn’t look like he’s feeling unwell, so maybe he secretly ate earlier?

Yukimura: What, Saito-san isn’t a person who would do something like that.

Toudou: Hajime-kun’s been acting weird lately. In the morning today, he went back to his room right after practice.

Nagakura: did he have a headache? Sano, did you ask him?

Harada: If he doesn’t want to say anything, then I can’t ask.

Nagakura: If this continues, perhaps something permanent might happen [gave up rewording for now lol].

Yukimura:．．．．．．

What was wrong with Saito-san?

Was something bothering him?

A few days later.

For the sake of mending the warriors’ uniforms, I went to the common room [tl is large main hall].

Chizuru: Ah, you’re here, Saito-san.

Saito: ! Yukimura——

Saito-san hid what he was holding behind him in a panic.

What was it?

It looked like a book.

Saito:……Will you be mending clothes here?

Yukimura: Yes, will this bother you?

Saito: No, it’s no bother.

Yukimura: Then I’ll be mending/sewing here.

I took out my needlework box and began mending the clothes.

Saito-san seemed to be hesitating about if he should stay or leave/ leaving or staying.

Yukimura: Um.

Saito: What?

Saito: Was Saito-san reading something just now?

Saito: Ah, um, nn, more or less.

Yukimura: Don’t mind me and continue reading.

Saito: But.

Yukimura: Am I bothering you?

Saito: No, but……

Saito-san looked very confused, after…

Saito: Yukimura.

Yukimura: What is it?

Saito: I hope you don’t tell anyone else that I was reading this book.

Yukimura: Don’t tell the others?

What was going on?

To actually not want any of the other warriors to know about this book.

Could it be that this book was on something, like assassination techniques, that shouldn’t be passed onto others?

I felt a bit uneasy.

Yukimura: I understand. I will never tell anyone else.

Saito: I believe you.

With a sharp glance at me, Saito-san began to read again.

The cover of the book looked badly worn.

Yukimura: Is that a manual on kenjutsu?

Saito: Yes, I happened to find it a few days ago, and took it to read. As a result, I’ve started reading this without stopping. If I have time, I’ll read. [reword later]

Yukimura: So it was like that.

That’s why Saito-san has been behaving strangely lately.

Yukimura: But why don’t you want to let the other warriors know?

There was no need to hide a swordsmanship manual.

Saito: That, because. The author of this book and I are not from the same school. Reading manuals from other styles is considered unethical.

Yukimura: I see.

I couldn’t help but laugh at such serious reasoning.

But, that truly was Saito-san’s style.

I started sewing again as Saito-san to read again.

We focused on our own things, and while we were in the same room, it however was natural for there to be no dialogue.

Retreating to the tranquility of the autumn night with only the sound of cicadas, [reword later] and the occasional sound of Saito-san turning a page.

Suddenly I was very interested in that sound and was looking in/looked in Saito-san’s direction.

Focused on reading, his entire posture was completely serious.

My heart felt happy just by looking at him, and I unconsciously smiled.

As a result, he noticed my staring, and while his gaze didn’t leave the book, he asked me a question.

Saito: What’s wrong? Is there something on my face?

Yukimura: No, Saito-san’s expression is very earnest/serious.

As a result, Saito-san tilted his head slightly, murmuring quietly.

Saito: So there’s nothing strange. I don’t understand what you’re thinking.

Yukimura: If I’ve upset you, I’m sorry.

Saito: I’m not upset.

Saito-san lightly sighed, adjusting the way he sat slightly.

Yukimura: Saito-san really loves kenjutsu.

Saito: I don’t have any other skills, but I do have some knowledge about kenjutsu/experience.

Yukimura: Ah, a talent/Oh my.

The conversation ended like this, and Saito-san once again began focusing on the manual.

From time to time, there was the sound of pages being turned.

The silence was soothing. I continued sewing the clothes.

A few days later.

I finished washing the clothes, and was about to head back into my room.

Nomura: Spare me, Saito-san. There’s no way we can defeat Saito-san./How could we beat Saito-san!

I saw Saito-san, Souma-kun and Nomura-kun practising with the blunt side of their swords [check jp mtl].

It looked like he was trying to put what he had read in that book a few days ago into practice.

Saito: A little bit more, just a bit more and I’ll have grasped it. One more time.

Souma: But we’re going on patrol next. Regardless of what is said, we can’t neglect our duties as members.

Saito: I’ll finish this as as [you?] obtain a point. There won’t be any problem.

Nomura: To quickly get a single point, what the hell is that! This is terrible.

Souma: But it’s pointless to continue like this…

As of the three of them talked, Nomura noticed me an started speaking with me.

Nomura: Ah, Yukimura-senpai, you’re just in time.

Yukimura: Ah, just in time for what?

Nomura: Why don’t you ask Yukimura-senpai to practise with you, Saito-san?

Saito: Ask Yukimura?

Yukimura: This, that’s not something I can do, there’s no way I can fight Saito-san.

Nomura: That doesn’t matter, we’re about the same [skill] level.

Yukimura: But…

Nomura: We have to go on patrol later, so please help us.

Souma: Nomura, don’t force Yukimura-senpai like this. Yukimura-senpai is also very busy.

Yukimura: ．．．．．．

Fighting against Saito-san will be incredibly difficult.

Yukimura: Saito-san, am I okay [acceptable?]?

Saito: Is that okay? Have you been instructed to do anything?

Yukimura: I’ve already finished with those things. However I don’t know if I’ll be of any use.

Saito: That is more than enough, thank you, Yukimura.

Yukimura: Not at all.

Nomura: The we’ll be going to work, so we’ll leave this to you, Yukimura-senpai!

Souma: Is this really okay, Senpai?

Yukimura: There aren’t a lot of opportunities to learn/This is a good opportunity to learn.

Souma: Then, we’ll be leaving/take our leave.

Yukimura: Okay. See you.

The two of them went directly back into headquarters to prepare for patrol.

Saito: Then, let us begin, Yukimura. Are you ready?

I took a stance a distance away from Saito-san, and held up my kodachi.

Yukimura: Please advise me. [well not sure what the JP equivalent of this is….]

Following the silence, my entire body was filled with a sense of tension [reword later].

After.

At the sound of my foot stepping forward, in a split second, Saito-san was facing me.

Chizuru: !

I hurriedly prepared myself, but he was faster than I was.

Yukimura: Ah!

My kodachi flew in an arc and landed on the ground.

Saito: Ippon.

Yukimura:……

Saito-san’s killing intent left me speechless.

Saito: As expected, knowledge acquired from reading needs to be tested in real combat.

As Saito-san spoke, he picked up my kodachi, which had fallen onto the ground, and handed it back to me.

I received it with trembling hands.

Yukimura: Thank you very much.

Saito-san became stronger again.

Saito: The fact remains that you have also improved, Yukimura.

Yukimura: Is that so……

Saito: Let’s return now. It’s about time to prepare dinner.

Yukimura: Yes!

Afterwards, Saito-san and I helped prepare dinner together.

1.How does classic car insurance differ from conventional car insurance ?Classic car insurance will give you what the car is actually worth and or what you feel the car is worth. Conventional insurance will not. Let’s say you have a beautiful 1965 split window corvette. Maybe it’s worth a $100,000. Collection insurance will want photos of the car and maybe an inspection of the vehicle. Once they agree on the value your good to go. However there are rules, like limited miles you can drive, garage kept, they can be very picky. Regular insurance last I heard will give you blue book value. Do the research. There are some very good collection companies around.

Insurance companies and having fun with this.

The UK MOT test now has public information data about current and historical mileage.

Thus now we can see/prove/audit that there are many tens of thousands of old cherished cars - that literally do not move for years on end. (Less than 500 miles every 5 years).

Big data analysis will show clearly to insurance companies which classic cars are massively profitable to insure.

A mainstream loved semi-classic car has a market value of £4,000 or less. (eg. 18 year old Mercedes convertible) driven by a busy,, employed, 50 year old with 2+ cars

On fully comprehensive insurance - the risk held by the insurance company is £3.5K for total write off of the car and any 3rd party claims (on a vehicle that hardly moves). The risk to the policy owner is loss of 4 years no claims bonus and a 10+ year claim free profile.

Big data will show to the insurance companies that these are very profitable policies

2.Does the wrong address invalidate car insurance ?

That depends on why it is wrong. If you move, while you should notify your insurance company, but don’t you are more likely to get cancelled because you didn’t pay your mailed bill (assuming that is the option that you selected).

But if say that you live in Miami, Florida (the most expensive place in the state to get auto insurance, and you claim that you live just outside of DeFuniak Springs, Florida and then have an accident in Miami, Florida, the insurance company could say FRAUD and VOID your policy as if it never existed. Because you had an uninsured accident, you would probably lose your driver’s license until you made the other driver whole again! Short of that, it usually wouldn’t be considered Material, and they would back bill you for premium OR give you a refund.

3.Is rental car insurance a rip-off ?

yes and no.

if you are using your insurance and crash the rental car, you can be liable for the complete cost of repairs AND lost revenue while it is being repaired. this can be full price of the rental all the time it is being repaired. this can be a ton of cash. also if you chip the windshield the rental co can charge you for a complete new windshield or repair the that one. your insurance may or may not cover any or all of this. needless to say you will have to deal with it one way or another.

if you buy the EXPENSIVE rental car insurance you are covered for all damages including all the “little scratches”

i was 21 and rented a car to go to a job interview 2 day rental. well i put almost 1600 miles on the car. when i returned the rental agent was mad i had put that many miles on an unlimited rental. so she went out and nitpicked everything …. i just watched as she pointed bugs out as dents and everything else. when we went in she disappeared a returned with a 2400.00 repair dollar bill. and demanded how i was going to pay. i just said i paid the 15.00 for the full insurance and that would cover it , she grabbed the rental agreement and read it, her face turned red. and i left….

4.Is it okay to not have car insurance for a few months ?

Probably expecting a bit of heat for this one but here goes.. lol.

I live in Spain and about 14 years ago or so I was forced under pressure to get rid of the Suzuki jeep… which looked a fair bit like this I suppose. No power steering and the uncanny ability to just spin right around on itself in slightly greasy roads….

which had the widest back tyres I think I have ever seen on a car.., anyway, it had to go, saw an ad for a Mitsubishi Shogun , a lot like this

UK plates and only came with an export certificate from UK. Seems the guy who brought it over was intending to change it over to Spanish plates but never got round to it. Swapped the Suzuki plus 3 grand and off we went. First time I had driven an automatic, was a joy and no mistake…proper built like a tank too.. awesome car.

Drove that car for almost 8 years on that export certificate, no MOT and insurance papers I made my self on the computer by copying a mates documents and changing the pertinent details. Spanish cops had at that time.. and possibly still now, no way of actually checking the veracity of insurance papers, if they looked legit, they were accepted.

I understand that in the last few years DVLA having softened a little and offer a yes or no answer to Spanish enquiries as to whether a UK registered car has a valid MOT or not… no other info is given. I assume thats data protection at work or some such. Its that yes or no that has gotten rid of a load of UK plated cars from Spanish roads, now you actually have to have one, so either you know someone who has an MOT garage and can produce one for you or you drive back to get it done, which isnt usually viable.

So ye, its ok to not have insurance for a few months or even a few years, as long as you can get away with it.

5.Can realtors write off car insurance ?

It depends on the method they choose to use to write off their car expenses. If their car is used less than 50% for business, they must use the mileage method which includes all operating expenses including insurance. If they use it more than 50% they may choose to use the actual expense method or the mileage method. If they use the actual expense method they can deduct the business % of gas, repairs, interest, insurance, depreciation, etc. Either method requires them to keep a mileage log.

6.Does my car insurance cover my friend when they borrow my car for a day?

In the UK read your certifcate of motor insurance.

If it says

“Any person driving on the policyholder’s behalf or with their permission” or WTTE then they will be covered. (There may be age limits in the schedule of insurance but these cannot appear on the certificate). (Also cover will be for pleasure use only unless the wording on the certificate specifically includes business use by your friend).

If it does not say that then, unless your friend is named on the certificate of insurance, they are not covered under your policy.

This does not necessarily mean that they are uninsured when they drive your car, since they may have an insurance policy covereing their own car with the “driving other cars” extension. “The policyholder may drive, with the owner’s permission a car not belonging to the policyholder nor hired to him under a hire-purchase agreement”. If this clause is in effect it only covers their Road Traffic Act Liability and does not cover loss or damage to the car whilst in their control. Note that it is your duty to check this. If your friend doesn’t have such cover then you are ‘aiding and abetting’ a motor offence of driving without insurance - offence code IN12 - which will substantially increase your car insurance premium - despite the FCA announcements today.

7.Can a 19-year-old afford car insurance ?

Driving a car is a privilige, not a right.

Unless you are in gainful employment and living at home, I suspect you will have to rely on the bank of mum and dad. But if you think getting insurance at 19 is hard - imagine trying to get it at 17 and 18.

Many teenagers go with a company that assesses the premium based on information sent to them by a ‘black box’ added to the car. People who drive sensibly and only durting the day pay a lot less than those who drive recklessley and at night - even if the latter have no accidents.

The first year is by far the worst. If you go claim free for a year then no only will you be 20 rather than 19 - but you will have one years no claims discount - which will knock about a third off your premium.

(Oh and don’t try and pretend the car you drive is owned and registered with your parents and that your mother is the main user. Insurance companies are not stupid. People who own a vehicle one or two years old don’t normally decide to buy a second vehcile that is 10 years old for their own use.)

8.What are the worst car insurance companies in America ?

As others have alluded to, the whole insurance cabal and racket is on par with a level or two less integrity than the drug cartels run in Mexico and South America.

Still, some insurance companies make an effort to comply with law and regulation, while others just have a standard operating procedure to act like bad-faith criminals.

One company stands out as the worst of the worst:

If you bought insurance from these scoundrel's, do yourself a favor, and immediately change. But don’t change early, or you’ll pay outrageous cancellation.

If you get hit by someone with this insurance, put in your claim with your own insurance, or you’ll just be wasting your own time.

9.How much do I need to pay for car insurance ?

Without knowing where in the world that you live, nor your age, sex marital status, other drivers in your household, driving records, and car or cars you trying to insure.

You can't save time or money by asking an ambiguous non informational question here. You will have to do it the old fashioned way, calling around to agents or companies. You can also go online to the companies and agents but NOT TO THOSE SITES THAT PROMISE TO TELL YOU THAT THEY'LL TELL YOU EVERY COMPANY'S RATES. That is a LIE plus you are putting yourself at risk for identity theft, and here are the reasons:

None of these sites has ALL of the companies. They only show those companies paying them to be there.

Even if they show an Allstate, a Progressive and/or Geico, these companies all have multiple rating levels for different types of drivers from preferred for the very best risks down to theworst risks out there. Those kinds companies might only have one or two of their rating levels on each of these sites, so if you don't qualify for those that rating tiers you won't be given a rate from those companies. Likewise if the company that truly is cheapest for you didn't pay for that website to show their rates, you won't see them.

They will sell your personal information to multiple agents and/or companies. This means that you will be bombarded by people trying to sell you auto insurance.

And since they don't check that the person indeed buying the leads are insurance agents all of your personal information could end up in the hands of identity thieves.

Lockdown Diary Part 4

A personal account during the lockdown in the UK due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

23/03/2020 8:30pm Boris Johnson, UK Prime Minister, gives a live address to the nation to, effectively, put the country on lockdown to stem the spread of the deadly coronavirus strain, Covid-19.

Many of us have been self-isolating for days but this latest development within the UK in reaction to the pandemic feels very serious and very scary. I decided to keep a simple diary and where better but online.

Day91: I can’t post photos to the sister photo diary and it’s fucking me off. Using this as a place holder- last successful pic was 21/06/2020.

Day 92: Still awaiting Tumblr re: day 91′s entry. Meanwhile looking at other blog/diary sites. Very warm today, like it was throughout May. Boris announced a further relaxation in lockdown measures which includes reducing the 2m distancing instruction which paves the way for pubs, restaurants and other places to open on 4th . It looks like the Ship will open 6th July, George on the 4th. I await to see the measures put in place before deciding whther it’s a goer.

Day93: Typing on day 94 - I received an email from Deryn from RCI HR concerning placement online module attendance, thanking me for my participation. I was somewhat confused. Was this a mistake or was I erroneously not icluded in the initial communications? I fired off an email to HR and WhatsApp’d Jim. He replied that I should take it up with HR.

I am worried by this. Furlough ends this week and I know not what the fuck is going on.

Day 94: Had a few beers last night, ‘cos I was feeling deflated over work. Finished Homecoming S2, which was very good, and cancelled Amazon Prime before the free trial ends tomorrow. Got up @midday but haven’t done jack shit today as my right ankle is playing up - it was twinging last night - apart from press ups. No word back from RCI but there was a notification that the email from Deryn was attempted to be recalled. Had a spat in Co-Op wth two lads who were ignoring the one way system and social-distancing. It makes my blood boil and I had to say something which ended up making my blood boil even more…especially as one of them asked me to ‘crack on’. It’s a pretty cool response actually, since I had them bang to rights but, at the time, I thought I was going to bust a blood vessel. I walked away having told him to not speak to me like that again and that he was a fucking arsehole! Didn’t make me feel any better though. Fog’s chatting later so I’m going to have a few beers right now (just gone 8pm) - I feel like throwing caution to the wind for some reason (probably work more than anything else).

Day 95: Typing on Day 96. I had a lot of beers with Fog the night before last and felt like shit all day yesterday. Still managed to drag myself up to Foggy’s and have socially distanced beers in his garden with Noel and Lord Irish of Michael.

Day 96: Feeling like shit. Third day of no walking ‘cos my ankle is a little sore although I did walk back from Foggy’s last night.

Day 97: Two walks and my usual stair climb today. Felt good to get back to routine. Plus, no booze yesterday, even tho’ it was a Saturday, feel better for it. I heard from Sue Cockings from HR on Friday, btw, still furloughed until further notice.

Day 98: I discovered, yesterday, that today is actually day 99 of lockdown since it actually begun on the Sunday evening that Boris Johnson announced the measures being in place - I mistakenly thought it began on the Monday. Tumblr still haven’t got back to me regarding reviewing why this blog is deemed ‘sensitive’ and I can’t add any more pics. While I am typing, Northampton are beating Exeter 0-2 at Wembley in the L2 play-off final. It’s funny that their fans can’t be there to see it. Football, in general, on its return after lockdown, without fans in attendance, is shit - like watching women’s football - too many empty seats.

Day 100: I have decided to number the days correctly (See prev’ entry). It’s a good time as I had to export , delete and recreate this blog on Tumblr since they have been non-forthcoming in my request for info as to why they deemed it ‘sensitive’. So, this is a restart, altrough seemless to the reader. On top of all that, I am writing this on Day 101! After restarting the blog diary I forgot to add the day’s entry! Bumped into Roger on my second walk, at the top of Basset Ford Place. We chatted for an hour or so. It was really good to see him and talk. We’ve made a promise to interact more...it seems both he and I allow ourselves to get down in the dumps (easy in self-isolation) and, as such, we shall try to reach out as and when. He suggested a walk together every now and then.

Day 101: I heard back from a charitable services company that Barry Haddon (who, coincidentally, I spoke with today) told me about (Auriga)and answered their email questions. BNarry rates them and told me they got him some decent results like he no longer has to pay Council Tax. I tweeted Chris Hawkes on Radio 6 this morning...he was asking for examples of sames names (’cos he had Dave Gorman on) so I told him about The Redlion and the ad the ‘other’ Tim put in the ET. He read it out! I created a photo album of 101 pics I’ve taken in lockdown and put it on FB including the Oundle Chatter group. The comments were great. My right eyesight is worrying, I cannot make out close up detail i.e. reading is blurred. I am going to start doing 10 press ups after each exercise i.e. three times a day. I decided that during my second walk so today I’ve done 20. Lastly, I have new neighbours I do believe. Hmmm.

Day 102: Emailed dad and Rita to have a rant about what dad thought of the Leicester lockdown and to share a link to my 101 photo album. Had a long Messenger chat with Rog.

Day 103: Typing this on day 104. Dad called when I was out ona walk so we skyped when I got back. He looks really well! Advided me on how to cutt some branches that are hanging low (I asked him in the email yesterday). I then borrowed a saw, secateurs and green bin from Karen. I walked a long way today. My second walk was 9km.I then had loads of beers! The Co-Op car park seems to be the venue for youngsters to hang out. I was gone 2am before they finished partying. I (re)watched Steve Jobs. Wow....just wow. What a film and what a man!

Day 104: It was gone 1:30pm when I got up feeling the worse for wear. A chilli, chorizo and cheese omelette really sorted me out but no beer tonight. How my Saturday frame of mind has changed from just a few years ago. Elliot and Camilla dropped off a jar of japaenos (that Mil had WhatsApp’d me about) and, among other things, we chatted about a photo Tracie Garrett circulated featuring Ell, me her and a few others who met up to have a drink at The Haycock for Ron Gambling. In it was Cath and someone called Ross (who I don’t remember) who have both passed since the pic (July ‘99). I feel strangely saddened by it all. The pic itself is such a reminder of days past - it conjours up shit loads of different feelings.

Day 105: A few beers again last night so another late one (5ish) but up before noon. Finished watching a series called Condor. Pretty good - bit of a messy ending that is the norm with telly nowadays in that it is a little bit of a cliffhanger.

Day 106: The Ship reopened today. I left a nice message on the Virtual Pub group page wishing them the best plus said thanks to Rach. I think it will be the end of the laugh we’ve had on the virtual site now. I expect to go through a bit of a miserabel time with people now venturing out down the pubs.We were once all united in lockdown - that will no longer be the case. Met Rog for a walk - did over 7km oncluding through Barnwell Picnic Park - I don’t remember it being that pretty. defo going to go there again. Got an email from RCI asking for all furlough workers to join a Zoom meeting tomorrow with Paul (MD) and Deryn (HR). Ominous! Went shopping in Asda and Farm Foods. £100 with NO BOOZE!

Day 107: The zoom call today didn’t tell me much other than we are being furloughed still, until further notice. It was susggested that we have a zoom meeting every 2 weeks and that RCI recognise we’ve be left out in the cold somewhat. I appreciate that very much.There were 30 of us on the call plus Paul and Deryn were in the office since they had to make peopel redundant today. Mark was in the office earlier to take receivership of the IT kits from those that left.

Day 108: I am well on the way to doing 1,000,000 steps in theree months (July, August & September) but at what cost. I’ve done well over 11,000 steps each day in July (actually, a lot of days in June as well) apart from one (8k) and I am feeling it. My right leg/ankle is sore! Day 109: I had another mention by Chris Hawkins on Radio 6. He asked for Brian May moments - apparently when he met Brian May he was so starstruck that all he could say was ‘thank you for the music’. I tweeted my story of telling Felicity Kendall to have a good life. Today, both my walks have resulted in me getting fucking soaked. Hanna S2 is on Amazon Prime. Time for yet another free trial (number 4 or 5).

Day 110: I have walked 144,448 steps in 10 days, well on the way to a million steps in three months. The Heist of the Century - an Argentinian film based on true events - watched it last night (well, over two nights, actually). A real life Ocean’s Eleven (but with 6). Brilliant film, brilliat story. I had issues signing up to another Amazon Prime free trial last night so I set up another gmail a/c just now and I think I’m in. I used Danny’s Gmail (which I created over 15 years ago!) and it didn’t like it - I think I must have used it before. I reckon I have probably had loads more free trials than I care to remember. Anyway, off to watch me some Hanna!

Day 111: Very tired as I type. Bed at around 5am, up at 13:30, normal exercises, cleaning kitchen cupbaords and I’m done in. It’s 10:30pm now, just cracked open a beer and about to watch a new Netflix film “The Old Guard”. I would continue with Hanna but Amazon Prime keeps fucking erroring. I will try to go to bed before it gets light (which seems to be my w/e norm nowadays!

Day 112: I have got into the habit of eating dinner far too late. It’s 10:30pm as I type and I am just about to have something eat. I’m not sure why I feel it’s wrong to eat so late but I do, I shall be trying to address it. Late night again last night (gone 4:30am) so today was a lazy day. Only on ewalk but it was 10km and I get up the above 11,000 steps needed for the 1m challenge. My stair climb, at around 9pm, fucking killed.

Day 113: Boring Monday.

Finished watching The Old Guard on Netflix. A Highlander-esque affair with Charlize Theron kicking ass like she did in Atomic Blonde. It was OK. Haven’t manage to lick the late night eating. It’s 10:05pm and tea’s still cooking.

Day 114: I have been looking at planning persmissions on the ENDC site for questions posed on the Oundle Chatter group on FB. There’s going to be two sites with 130 new houses on each and it’s causing concern. And so it should - the planning docs are very revealing. Objections are dismissed in such an off-hand way. It’s really quite insulting. I was awfully down today, during my first walk. I mean, really despondant (too difficult to describe here), which is a lower version of the norm - it’s been a good couple of weeks since anyone’s even asked how I am! A week since that post on my main blog. But, I powered through and am back to the usual depth! I ate at @9:30 pm tonight. Told ya!

Day 115: I am typing this on Day 116 - I ended up hainga couple of beers last night and forgot to post. I had the most ridiculous toing and froing on FB and Messenger with Rachel (Harris) - it was piss funny. She is the first person in days, actually weeks, who has asked how I am! I watched ep3 of Hanna S2. Absolutely superb. She kills Marissa! Did not see that fucker coming...mind blown! Day 116: I have finally finished the thorough clean of the kitchen. Fucking drama. I am typing at just gone 10pm, about to eat (curry I made yesterday). It’s been a strange day, timings wise, last night’s drinking meant I wasn’t up until just gone noon which obviously didn’t help. I had a call from DSM group - I applied for an IT tech role, they want to see me tomorrow (Friday) for an interview (in Sibson). Interesting! (Although the contact, Helen, hasn’t sent the promised email!)

Day 117: Despite not getting a confirmation email, I attended the interview at DSM. It went OK (I was there for 90 mins). I went booze shopping in Tesco’s afterwards. Spoke to dad today also - he and Rita are well, as usual! I am feeling really knackered and achy today. I do hope it’s not anything to worry about.

Day 118: Up at 1pm. 9.79 km walk. Cooking meatballs, drinking beer, listening to The Blaze about to watch Deepwater Horizon. All good today!

Day 119: Similar to yesterday, up late, bloody long walk, watching Saving Private Ryan (which I started last night).

Day 120: Typing on day 121. Received an email from someone that works at the BBC for Shaun Keaveny’s show - they want me to do small claims court on August 5th. I’m becoming obsessed with getting my steps in - my second walk was extended to round Barnwell Country Park - over 17.5k steps - not the most I’ve done in one day but, for example, most in one day last month (June) was 14.7k. More importantly, I am finding that I can walk further (and for longer) and not have a hypo; not a great deal further, but over an hour.

Week 3

June 30

We had to be up and ready to go at 7:40am because today we were going to be driving to the Jesuit Missionaries about 3 hours away. Before the missionaries, we went to an amethyst mine. It was cool to hear about it and they said that they don't export the gems so the only way to get it is by buying directly. The gems were breathtaking!

After another two hour drive we finally arrived at the San Ignacio's missionaries and ate at the comedor right in front. I got a pollo milanesa and a salad. I crushed the salad but the pollo was average so I didn't finish it.

After lunch we toured the missionary. Our tour guide explained to us that these missionaries were sent to spread the word of God to the Guarani People. They had built multiple communities in the surrounding area including brazil and paraguay. Later they were taken out and some of the guarani people went back to living in the jungle. San Ignacio was abandoned and destroyed, so the restoration is only partial. It was cool to be able to walk through their common spaces and know that a couple hundred years ago there were indigenous people walking on the same grounds.

The tour finished and we loaded up on the bus for the three hour ride back home. We ate dinner at the hotel and I got a pumpkin soup as a starter and let me tell you I was a little on edge because I’ve never had pumpkin soup but it was sooooo delicious. Since it was a starter they only gave me a little but I would’ve been happy eating a whole bowl of it, 9/10. For my main course I got the fish of the day which was “pacu” with a side of mashed potatoes. Mashed potatoes didn’t disappoint but the fish could’ve been better. Not my cup of tea. And for dessert I got a flan.

After dinner we all went to bed since we had to get up even earlier to head to the waterfalls.

July 1

We left the hotel at about 7:30am and headed to the waterfalls that was only 30min from our hotel. We were trying to get on the first train up to the waterfalls so that it wouldn’t be as crowded on the lookout. It was perfect timing because as we wrapped up taking all of our pictures a crowd of people were walking up. If you are able to get on the first or second train in Iguazú falls it honestly will make taking pictures a lot easier.

After we saw “la garganta del diablo” we went to the little store they had and I got an empanadas de espinaca y queso (spinach and cheese). When I paid for it the guy told me to be careful with the animals. But I realized that the birds here are VERY vicious. I stayed inside to eat my empanada but my professor went out to drink her coffee and eat her empanada and got attacked by some birds! This is why they have cages specifically made for people to eat in LOL.

We did another trail to see the falls from a different angle and it was just mind blowing.

After the trails we had little time for lunch. I didn’t want to eat too much because we were going to be taking a boat tour right after. From one of the comedores I got some chicken and rice. While on this trip there are two things that I really miss: rice and beans. They have rice here but they usually eat potatoes and beans are not very popular here so my Salvadoran blood has been a little sad.

Anyway we got on the boat and I definitely recommend doing it if you are able. They give you a waterproof bag to put your stuff in and I also recommend taking your shoes off and putting them in the bag. I was also wearing a poncho which helped protect me, but regardless you will get wet. They take you really close to the falls and you can take some pictures in front but then they tell you to put your phones away because they take you sooooooo close to the falls and get soaked!!

Once the ride was over we got back on our tour bus and headed back to the hotel.

For dinner, we ate at the hotel and I got the pumpkin soup, salad and the chicken milanesa with a side of mashed potatoes. Pretty good meal, favorite of course was the soup.

After dinner some friends and I went to the store to get something to drink. I got a white boxed wine that was only 55 pesos! (~$1.30). If you were wondering, no I did not finish it.

July 2

We were able to sleep this morning till about 9am since we had to leave the hotel at 10am. We got on the plane and headed back to Buenos Aires.

After we got off the plane and back to the resi (which I sort of missed) we dropped off laundry and got a little snack.

Later that night we went to “Caracas bar” to watch the Brazil vs Argentina game. I got this drunk called guarapanita which was rum and fruit juice. I also got some tostones de carne which really hit. The bar was a really cool and had a big screen to watch the game on but unfortunately the energy in the bar was really off. If you don’t know Argentina lost and it was really sad :(.

July 3

I was so excited to wake up today because my sister was going to be coming to Buenos Aires! I got up at around 10:30 and went to brunch with some girls at this cafe called adobo. We ended up walking but then couldn’t find it and then google maps said it was twenty min away so we got a taxi but what we didn’t realize that there were two locations #whoops. Anyway the food was bomb. The bagel sandwich just hit differently and Nutella and banana French toast was to die for!

After breakfast I went back to the resi and picked my things for our trip to Uruguay later that evening. I picked up my laundry and waited for my sister to arrive. Once my sister got there we went to exchange some money. I thought that Uruguay was going to be cheaper than Argentina for some reason but I was wrong. The exchange rate right now is about .55 Uruguayan peso for 1 Argentine peso.

We went to a cafe near Plaza Serrano called “La Panera Rosa” and I got a Chicken Rigatti Pasta. It was honestly one of the best meals ive had. It really had a lot of sauce and contrary to what Future says you can really never have too much sauce.

After lunch we got in a taxi and headed to the port and got on a Buquebus. Which is a ferry and then a charter bus to Montevideo,Uruguay.

We checked into our hostel and then I messaged a friend I had met back in 2016 through Amigos de las Americas a nonprofit organization that I volunteered for. When my friend said he'd love to meet up I was ecstatic! We went to a random cafe near by and got a Chivito, which is a typical Uruguayan sandwhich and of course some wine.

After my friend Miqueas gave us a little tour of the city and we headed to a bar to get a night cap.

July 4

Happy fourth of July!!

This morning we got up and checked out of our hostel since we would be traveling to Colonia later. We walked to a restaurant to get some “breakfast” even though it was 11:30 am. My sister and I shared a milanesa that came with two fried eggs and some fries and potato salad. No need to mention the restaurants' name there are probably better ones out there.

After lunch, we headed to Montevideo Shopping because my friend works around there so he said he would meet us up after he got out. Sooo in the meantime, we got to walk around and window shop.

Once my friend got out of work my friend took us to the coast to get a good view and he knew I had a blog so he wanted to make sure I got good pictures! ( Gracias Miqueas!!! <3)

After the photo session, we headed to the bus terminal and got our tickets for the bus ride to Colonia. We decided to get a quick bite to eat in the terminal to this restaurant called “La Mostaza”. My sister and I shared Ravioli, which was pretty bomb. The filling for the ravioli was like spinach and it was different but definitely tasty.

Once we finished we headed back to the hostel to pick up our luggage and then got a taxi back to the terminal and then got on the bus for Colonia. Once we arrived to Colonia I was a bit nervous because I did not see too many taxis but luckily once we walked outside there was a stand and then headed to our hostel and went to bed.

July 5

Today we got to sleep in again and then got ready to go get some breakfast. We went to this cute coffee shop called “Colonia Sandwich and coffee shop”. I got a roast beef sandwich and some tea. The place was really cute and since its winter time here they had blankets for everyone who sat outside which definitely helped.

There were a bunch of birds surrounding us it was a little scary but more cute lol.

After lunch we just walked around the town which is really small so it wasn’t too long. We saw a lighthouse and some cool views on the coast.

Later we did some more walking and found the drawbridge that we couldn’t find earlier. We also gained a new friend along the way lol.

We decided to get a little snack to hold us over so we could try and eat dinner at a “normal” time. (Dinner in Argentina and Uruguay is usually eaten around 9 or 10pm so its been something difficult to adjust too) We walked into this restaurant that was right in the center, I wish I could tell you the name but the sign outside literally just said “Restaurant”. Anyway my sister and I shared a Rice with seafood dish and some wine. I loveeeee seafood so this was a perfect combination for me.

After we decided to walk and get some ice cream at Freddo which is a pretty popular chain here. We got a Dulce de Leche cone.

Much later we went to go get some dinner at a pizza place called “Napo” it was really delicious. You could even see them making your pizza. My sister noticed that the guy making the pizza had a hat on and said that's probably a health code violation but im still here so I guess it's not that big of an issue. My sister and I got a salad and a pepperoni pizza and some red wine. (forgot to take a picture of the pizza sorry!)

After we headed back to the hostel and went to bed.

July 6

Today we woke up and checked out of our hostel and then headed to go get some breakfast. We went to this cute cafe called “Picnic”. I got an orange juice and a caprese empanada and then my sister and I shared a donut which was nothing like ive ever had before 10/10.

Since we had basically seen all the important landmarks we walked around and went window shopping. After we decided to go do a wine tasting at a place called “Buen Suspiro”. We had tried to go there the night before but it was closed. We got some charcuterie and tasted four different wines: Rose, Sauvignon blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tempranillo. My favorite was the Tempranillo and a close second was the Sauvignon blanc.

After the taste testing, we went back to collect our belongings and headed to the port to get on the ferry back to Buenos Aires.

Once we got back I helped my sister check into her hostel and then headed back to our resi to work on this blog because it was long overdue!

After I finally caught up we went to dinner at “La Robla”. I got myself a Milanesa with a salad and my sister got a Steak with some mashed potatoes and we shared half a liter of sangria. I didn’t know sangria is literally just wine and fruits lol, the more you know.

For dessert we got a banana split!

After dinner, we walked my sister home and then went to bed.

This week we’ve done a lot of traveling so im excited to be back in BA!

Circled by the Wolves Pt 2

The Amber Glade continued to reel from the void elf attack on the Market Square. So many luxury items now had to be exported from other regions of the Eastern Kingdoms, or even from Kalimdor, on the other side of Azeroth. Shipments were often delayed for days, leaving the Bloodfeather sisters yet again with few options this early in the morning.

Syrahn felt her soul twist and writhe in her body with every sip of her bitter coffee. Her toast was without butter, without flavor, and therefore without purpose. At least her bacon was edible; that's what she first thought before the first bite, anyway. It was vegan bacon… made out of tofu. Her disappointment was immeasurable and her day was ruined.

“I suppose we should get on with this meeting without Ijiro.” Viridias pulled her messy mob of hair away from her face before straightening up in her seat. “Did you want to go first, Miriam?”

Miriam looked almost as miserable as Syrahn, but for vastly different reasons; the vineyards went up in flames thanks to those void elves, and all that was left to drink was Valasar's Grand, a dessert wine she wouldn't be caught dead drinking. For the first time in a long time, she was completely sober. “Public opinion of our house has been on a steady decline since the attack. You would think rebuilding their shops and the generous compensation we've given would solve this problem, but no. They're as stupid as they are greedy.”

“No amount of gold will bring their families and friends back.” Syrahn said, with a chill in her voice.

She either pretended not to notice or she didn't care, Syrahn couldn't read her while she was sober. “They want justice, not empty promises. Until we find who is behind this, their opinion of us is only poised to get worse.”

“I don't suppose anyone has any good news hidden somewhere?” Viridias sighed, before taking a bite of her butterless toast. Before Syrahn or Miriam could answer, a subtle whistling snagged the words in their throats. The song was annoyingly cheerful, and one Syrahn had heard many times before.

Right on cue Ijiro opened the door and stepped in, with his ridiculously large wolf Zaar trending behind him. “Goooooood moooorrrniiiinng!” His booming voice wasn't kind on their ears, but Syrahn was angry at him long before he strolled in here; she awoke this morning to find he slipped away from their bed in the dead of night, and her cruel imagination got the better of her senses. “Ahh, Viri is all natural today, yeah?” He plucked her hand off the table and gently kissed her knuckles. “The years have been very kind to you, my dear. As breathtaking today as a century ago.” Viridias didn't know what to say to that, but her ruby red face said enough. Miriam stiffened once Ijiro turned to look at her with a big, dumb, crooked smile on his face. “Grumpier than usual, yeah? How about a big hug from your brother!”

“Touch me and Syrahn will ever find your rema-guhhh!” She couldn't even finish her threat before his strong arms were around her, scooping her out of her seat and holding up tightly. Ijiro even gave her a light pack on the cheek, causing Miriam to shudder… not from rage nor discomfort, but from something much more concerning.

Syrahn watched her sisters like a starving lynx. She suspected they haven't felt the embrace of a man in quite some time, but for them to be this touch-starved? It raised a few questions Syrahn wasn't sure she wanted answered. She knew and trusted Ijiro wouldn't forsake his vows, or she wouldn't have married him; but would her sisters tempt him? She was so preoccupied with studying her sisters she didn't notice her husband until it was too late to stop him.

His coarse hands wrapped around her chin and pinch her cheeks together, forcing her lips to part. The long and gentle kiss tasted so good Syrahn nearly forgot why she was upset in the first place. “How's my queen and little Ijiro jr. doing?”

“His name is Alu.” Syrahn corrected in a hushed tone. “And not so loud! Zaetan is just down the hall!” Ijiro gave her a sly smirk before downing her cup of black coffee.

“If you're done trying to flatter us,” Miriam sneered, “Maybe you can add something useful to this meeting.”

The sky grin on his face only grew larger at his sister's sass. “I believe I can manage that.” Ijiro reached into his vest and tossed a plain envelope onto the table.

“A letter?” Viridias raised a brow.

“A lead.” The three sisters exchanged skeptical glances before Miriam reached over to give it a read. “This morning I paid House Hearthdust a visit. Apparently they are good at finding information and… items of particular value.”

“That's where he went?” Syrahn thought, gulping dryly; she tried to remember if Lord Parneus had any daughters, but no names came to mind. Zaar noticed how tense she was becoming, and slipped underneath the table to rest his head on her lap. The wolf's head felt like it belonged to a Silverpine Grizzly, but most of it was thick black and graying fur. Syrahn felt her toes begin to tingle from the weight of the wolf putting her legs to sleep, but one look in his deep yellow eyes and she couldn't resist scratching behind his ears.

“And you trust them…” Miriam spoke with a tone more befitting an accusation than a question.

“Of course not.” Ijiro's retort was quick and indignant. “No one else has stepped up with a lead, and the longer we wait, the sooner they try something again. We can't afford to dismiss this, yeah?”

It was Syrahn's turn to throw her opinion out there. “Awfully nice for them to hold this information from us… why didn't they bring this up sooner?”

“My threat to the great houses seemed to make them take this a lot more urgently.” Ijiro leaned against the table and watched Miriam’s eyes dart back and forth while she read the letter in silence. “So… do you think it's the real deal?”

Maybe they are working with the surviving members of his family? Maybe they are House Dawnvale reborn...?”

“One of the great families is working with them... we find one of his lackeys, we put his feet to the fire, we learn who hired them.” Ijiro stood up straight and crossed his arms. “How’s that for a lead, eh?”

“The High Kingdom is a big place. Finding their hideout could take months. Maybe even years.” Miriam frowned. “How do we even start this search?”

“We'll work out the details later. Right now we need to make sure House Hearthdust is genuine… and this letter isn't a trap.” He briefly stroked his chin before turning his attention to Syrahn's lukewarm toast. Unsurprisingly he left her insult to food everywhere - the vegan bacon - exactly where and how he found it; a single bite taken out of one strip, no more, no less.

Right as he pushed the entire piece of burnt bread into his mouth, a heavy fist knocked on the door. “Forgive me for interrupting,” Zaetan called out, and for an instant Shrahn feared he was eavesdropping this entire time. “But this is urgent.”

“Come in.” Syrahn commanded.

Zaetan swung the door wide open with a host of guards behind him, all of whom were out of breath; Ijiro's largest wolf suddenly slipped away from Syrahn's lap and reappeared between Zaetan and the Bloodfeathers. “My Lord,” Zaetan started, doing his best to ignore the huge beast silently judging him. “it's the Oathguard. They've returned from Argus.”

me trying to make a gif part 2 (thrilling finale, buildup ver.)

ok good news and bad news: good news being withheld for Spoilers (not that it’s that hard to guess anyway lol), bad news explained first bc, chronologically, it is first

so yesterday i mentioned in the tags of that post that i had seen that krita has an animation feature so i was gonna try importing the frames into that and then exporting it as a gif. easier said than done, as it turns out

i started by opening the file i made yesterday with 62 layers as the frames and importing that into krita, which worked fine (i didn’t know you could actually open .psd files in clip stuido ((this typo is so fucking stupid it made me laugh so im leaving it)) and krita, so that’s pretty neat, i wonder if it works the other way around too) but i ran into problems when i tried to convert those layers into frames in an animation. because, like, the layout of the program has the layers displayed in one tab, and the animation timeline in another, like so:

so my goal was to get the frames from the layers into the timeline, and i still don’t know if i did it right bc lbr krita is not very intuitive at all,,.,, i mean i watched a video tutorial abt how to animate in krita which was v helpful (it’s the one by jesse j james on yt fuckin SHout out) but it was about animating from scratch, not importing an animation you’ve already done elsewhere

so like, the way krita’s animation thing works, from what i could piece together as i bumbled my way around w/ it, is that each layer in the layers tab is a separate timeline in the,,, timeline tab

i want them all to be in the same timeline, not separate ones, and there’s no way to combine them in the timeline tab bc doing that just overwrites whatever layer you’re pasting it down onto, and also if you define the number of frames for that timeline (62 for this project) it just puts the single image of that layer for all of the frames instead of just one of them, so you’d have to go through and delete all the other frames you don’t want it to be, which would be such a fuckin pain

so i found a workaround, which is so tedious that it can’t be the right way to do it, but basically i started w/ layer 1 and defined 62 frames & then emptied frames 2-62, like this

(that blue box is the frame, btw, even tho it says 0, which actually kind of annoys me like why doesn’t it start the first frame on 1????)

from there i went up to layer two and selected that in the timeline, but for some reason the frame doesn’t show up automatically?

& i couldnt fuckin figure out how to make it into like, an Official Timeline Layer or whatever tf bc like, u see on layer 1 how theres that little lightbulb-looking icon on the right? that’s for turning on onion skin which only applies when you actually have frames with things drawn on them, so basically layer 2 in the layers tab has a drawing but in the timeline it doesn’t?

i didn’t find out what the actual reason for this is or how you’re /supposed/ to make the frame appear in the timeline, but what i did was right click on layer 2′s timeline & select “create blank frame” which magically made the frame i want appear

but it’s on top of the layer 1 frame, and i want it to be the frame after. also it’s still in a different timeline. this is the only easy fix in this whole damn process, u can literally just click & drag the frame from layer 2 to layer 1 and put it wherever u want on the timeline

and then u just delete layer 2 and that’s it, frame transferred!! then i just had to do that for 60 more layers and after [unspecified amount of time but it was a fuckin while ok] my timeline looked like this!

(the gaps near the end are held frames, to save me time so i didn’t have to copy a bunch of frames that were exactly the same)

krita is great because as far as i know ur animation can have an unlimited number of frames, at the risk of your own pc’s processing power, which is a definite upside to SOME expensive art programs i know (clip studio, i’m talking abt csp) and u can pick the frame rate too (cough photoshop elements 5.0 even tho u dont technically have an animation feature & it’s a miracle u can even make gifs at all) so once i finally got all the frames situated all nice and in order like on the same timeline, playing it was great! played at the right speed, looped perfectly, it was a dream come true right

well, time to export it as a gif

so u got 2 options for exporting ur animation, u can either hit “export,” which lets u save it as different file types, one of which being gif, or you can hit “render,” which gives you gif and video options

well

i tried export first, bc that seemed like a good idea, but the “””gif””” it made was distinctly not a gif, despite its claim to be one?? this is what i got:

notice: 1. it is not moving, and 2. the black bars to the sides?? those are supposed to be transparent. they’re transparent in the file i made so why didn’t they register as transparent in the export, when gifs have transparency capabilities??

so That was some real live bullshit but i still had the “render” option, right? export was wrong, so rrender must be the correct option to go to that will produce the results i am wanting to see produced in front of me like a silver dinner platter with a correctly functioning gif under the lid, that’s what i want to see and “Render Animation...” is gonna Give me that silver platter righWRONG ok look at this shit rn ok Look

it says GIF it says it RIGHT THERE right??? right?????? then WHY

and it also gave me all This bullshit

like did i ask?? did i fucking ask???? i already have all the individual frames why do i need even M o re i mfjgjgk

((rationally ok yea thats v useful for if ur making the animation in krita and want to export the frames to use elsewhere, but like uhhh 1. again, they’re not transparent & 2. i should have the option of saying i don’t want these??? bc *meme voice* i don’t want these)

so in the end i could find NO correct method of exporting animations as a gif in krita bc every ooption that says gif is fuckign LYING to ur face there are NO gifs in krita, aliens made the progam who looked at gifs and went “hmm i thikng this is how a gif works “ and just made jpegs instead but somehow got on the computers good side and got it to lie for them about it being a gif so thats why it says gif on the file still even tho its not a gif illimati confinr

so what is the conclusion to this? well i said there was good news too, and this is the portion where i divulge that sweet nectar (i type dthis 2 seconds ago and @ me what the fuck)

so after wasting a good 2 hours trying to figure out krita i gave up and watched some good old [youtuber name redacted bc what if it shows up in search & ppl see this dumbass post in there but it rhymes with fjackfsepticfeye] to relax into accepting my fate that i’ll never be able to upload my animations to tungle except in poor quality loopless video form, making me into a laughing stock on my own art blog, but THEN i had a stroke of genius, in my Brain

so if u read yesterday’s post u might remember that flipnote studio, the animation program i use on my ds, to animate, has the option to export files as gifs, both animated and sequential (meaning either as one fully animated gif or each individual frame separately), which is super convenient, but as i mentioned yesterday, any time i tried to open the folder with those files on my laptop, it crashed immediately

WELL today i thought “hey, how about instead of opening the folder in the sd card when it’s plugged in, how about i copy that folder from the sd card to my flash drive, and try to open it there, in case it’s the card’s hardware that’s causing the problem, not corrupted files”

so i tried that and it FUCKING WORKED THANK GOD GLORY HALLELUJAH

so now instead of spedning A THOUSAND YEARS trying and failing to force art programs to bend to my will i can just export the animations straight from my ds and drag them onto my computer Just As God Intended oh GOD im so fucking happy

here’s the gif in the end, i’m gonna post it to my art blog too but this is the Green Version bc i animate in green bc of some default settings in flipnote that i got used to, plus it makes me feel like i’m just sketching so nothing really has to be finalized so i’m comfortable while i work, and also it’s just nice ok it’s a Nice Green

(there’s a few frames at the end that are like the extra scraps from while i was working dw i got rid of those in the final version that i’m posting to my art blog later. also i added my blog url to that one too it’s aaaaaall good)

the only downside to this method is that i can’t change the canvas size to be 540px wide to fit with tumbrl s image dimensions but whatever i can just post them in a text post and fix the html to display it at its original size instead of the resizing bullshit tmurbl pulls constantly ugh. anyway it works great on desktop but it’s inevitably gonna look like shit on mobile no matter what i do *Big Ass Shrug*

anyway thats the end of my success story uhh i can’t make the like comment & subscribe joke again bc i already did that in the last post so like bye i guess thanks 4 watchign & have a great day i’ll see u in my next fvideo

Prologue pt.2 (Revised)

Prologue Part 2

"Hey buddy, It's great to see you."

"KYYAAAAA! It's Kenichi-kun! Senpai please notice me!"

"Over Here! Over Here! Kyaaaaaaaa!"

"Hey, it's Mikazuki! Yo, Mika! Want to go try out our new strategy at the court after classes?"

"Yeah man! We're gonna get them Fujimi Academy guys after what they did to us last time!"

The spiky haired guy's name is Mikazuki Kenichi a guy who is in the same class as him. Ever since Luka joined the school, Kenichi was the only person who accepted him as a peer and he's popular at school as the leader of the school's basketball team. He has lead the school's basketball team since the previous year and has won a couple of gold medals for the school from prefecture's competitions.

He isn't always properly dressed but he doesn't get complaints from school since he's a representative of the school's sports club and childhood friends with the student council leader, Matsumoto Inoue. Inoue on the other hand, sit in the 2A class and is said to be excellent with both academics and sports. She also the daughter of the school's director.

"Hi...., you seem pretty much yourself today. I wonder how you get away with this."

"Hmmm, are you sure? I always thought I dressed according to the school rules. Besides, look at yourself, Heh" Pointing at Luka's winter uniform. Luka thought it's normal to wear blazer jackets all year around, as he did when he used to live in Russia. Luka still hasn't gotten used to the new customs.

"It's already been a year, you really need to get used to how we work here buddy. Anyways, I think you've got to cheer up a bit!

Now repeat after me, "Today is a beautiful day!"

"Today...., is a beautiful day."

"No man, you've got to say it louder! So that the whole school hears you! Just say it! I'm here so no one's going to bother you!"

"Today....is...a" Luka stops short of saying anymore as he finds it silly and though he doesn't hate Kenichi, he just can't stand him sometimes.

"You know, let's just get to class. We've got tests after all,….please."

"Aww, C'mon! Do you really have to be such a killjoy? Man…, reminding me of the test? Cheeky!"

As Kenichi groans, Luka heads inside the school, towards the shoe lockers and many students can be seen scrambling to place their shoes into the lockers. Luka does that too while Kenichi heads towards his own shoe locker. Placing his shoes in the locker, he turns around to head to class. Then, he knocked by someone to the side of the locker, though it was lightweight. After getting pushed by a crowd of student rushing to class, it was a girl who bumped into him by accident. The girl stares at him embarrassed and knowing who he is, the look turned into anxiety realizing she doesn't want to anyone spreading rumors about a relationship between her and the Russian guy. She quickly takes her bag as she runs off, but in amidst of leaving she ends up dropping an envelope probably from the insecure bag after being knocked over. Before Luka could call out to her, Kenichi walks over to pat him on his shoulder, having seen what happened.

"Ohh man. It seems you've got off a good start for the second year. You've got my support all the way buddy."

Luka, not wanting any misunderstanding quickly rebutted, "That's was an accident. She dropped the letter. I'll return it after class."

"But what if she did it on purpose, heeh? What if she wants you to read it?" Kenichi chuckled as Luka's expression remains unchanged.

"That not funny man. I'm not into this sort stuff and you know that."

"Come on! Read it! Read it!"

"I said no and I'll say it again, I'm not into this."

Kenichi kept persuading him to read the envelope or rather, trying to force him to read by nudging and pulling his shoulder persistently. Luka doesn't say anything and kept walking to class. As they passed the classroom hallway, a guy in a classroom can be seen conversing with a friend concerning the computer screen showing an rpg style game.

"Youji, what am I supposed to do with this…I still can't get the player move past the 2nd level glitch. It's the engine's fault!"

"Well, have you tried changing the filenames and re-exporting the assets? Maybe that'll help."

"I tried that but I'm telling you, it's the system's fault. If we use a previous version of the engine, that will screw up the levels!"

"I guess so, anyways we don't have much time. Why not just use the old version and put abit of UI in the menu? That'll also be good too right, Hiiro?"

Kobayashi Hiiro an aspiring game programmer and designer looks on the screen as his character can't move further than a few meters due to the game glitch. He and his friend Kurotsuchi Youji are planning to use the game to promote their small dev team "HeRocks" but they can't see to get it working properly this time around.

"Uggh, this is not good. I'll have to reload the old project files and start again with what we can."

"We just need to get it out there Hiiro. Nothing fancy."

"But it would be so bland like other RPG games already up there. Might as well implement a mechanic that's different from others."

"You don't need a new mechanic, that's why you have me, I write the scripts and draw the characters. That's more than unique enough."

"Hahhh…."

"Huh? What's with the noise outside." Hiiro turned to look at the hallway window as sees two students seemingly drawling on top of one another, though one of them doesn't react to the grapples.

Kenichi got Luka down on the floor as he pushed too hard trying to convince him to read the letter. Kenichi doesn't stop trying as Luka gets up and continues walking towards that the class.

Youji recognizes them as he remarks about how those two ends up making causing a commotion from time to time.

"Well, if it isn't Mr. Unpopular and Mr. Popular guy of the school. Totally not fitting picture."

"Yeah…, I don't listen to gossips very much at school. Besides, all I care for is making games."

Hiiro replied in a soft tone not sure what to make of the awkward situation.

"Heyy! Don't say that! You've got to get up and look around sometimes you know! That's how you get ideas straight from them source! You ought to be glad you've got someone like me to remind you that!"

Youji chuckles knowing how much his friend needs help from him with developing the game. Youji is a digital artist who sometimes streams himself drawing pictures online. He is also has a large network of friends that he takes advantage of to help promote their game online.

"The class is about to start soon. Let's continue after school Hiiro."

Hiiro agrees and closes his laptop as the bell rings and the teacher arrives.

In class 2C, Luka seats himself next to a window overlooking the school's garden. Sometimes Luka gazes at the garden to remove himself from the world and remember the days when his life's series of tragedies didn't occur. Luka glances out the window for a moment just before the test starts. In his vision, he remembered a face from long ago, in an open backyard which alternates to a beachside. It was a shape of a man and though he couldn't remember the face well, he knew the face was smiling to him. The lips spoke him saying something, but he couldn't make out what it meant. Then the classroom door opens, interrupting his euphoric memories. Luka prepares his pen as he sees the form teacher walk into the classroom.

"Stand!" The class rep commanded with a clear stoic voice as the class simultaneously stands up, including Luka.

"Good Morning! Sensei!" The class spoke.

The teacher look over the class as he removes a sheet of paper from his file, a form used to record student attendances.

"I'll read out the names and respond with 'yes' when you hear yours'."

One by one the teacher called out the names and each student raises their hands as he ticks off each one. Once he's satisfied, he orders them to sit.

"We're about to begin our tests soon. Please prepare your writing materials."

The class immediately sprang to action as the students took out their pen and pencils from their bags. The teacher makes the students pass on a set of papers to one another until all students have received them. The clock approaches the start time of the test and as it hits 10'o clock, the test commences.

"The test begins now. You may start writing."

The test went by smoothly for Luka as he had studied days before and revised the text earlier in the morning. Soon the test came to an end as the students returns the papers by passing on from one another until the papers were fully received by the teacher. Then the bells rang as lunch break arrives.

"The class is now over. Enjoy your lunch break. That is all."

"Stand!" the class rep shouted once again as everyone stood up.

The teacher leaves the room and afterwards, everyone lets out a sigh of relief.

"Hahhhhh! Finally! I made it!"

"I could eat a horse after all that! Let's see go what we can find in the cafeteria!"

"Yeah, Let's go!"

The students chats to one another as each of them asks what the others want or what they expect to eat. Some of the girls even thought about sharing food from their lunch boxes.

As everyone leaves the room, Luka choses to stay behind in class, as he takes out his own table cloth from a corner of his bag and pulls out a lunchbox with his homemade tuna sandwiches and an apple. Kenichi too was about to turn and leave when notices his friend staying back in class.

"Hey Luka! Come on, let's go eat with everyone!"

"No, I'm fine. I'll stay here and eat. You should go instead."

"Luka, you got go where everybody goes. People like to get along with people who do the same things they do. That's the same reason why people didn't want to talk to you. You've gotta follow the flock man, can't be the odd one out, there's no other way to make friends."

"Well, I've got you. I don't care much about anyone else. Would they even accept me after I talked to them?"

"You…hahh, Luka you know I'm always here for you. Always willing to help out you know. You're a friend to me, but I want you to have other friends besides myself."

"What about friends? What if I don't?"

Kenichi running out of reasons, remembered that Luka still has to return the letter to the girl who dropped it earlier in the morning. Kenichi grinned.

"Then, about that girl you've got to return a letter to."

Luka then perked his ears when he heard it.

"I….can return later. I'll just finish early and wait at the entrance."

"But wouldn't that be like asking for a date?"

"Well then, I'll just squeeze it into her shoe locker. The letter's thin."

"But that would be more like YOU are the one sending a letter to a girl and everyone would assume you like her."

Luka looks as if he doesn't have a choice since he hasn't much spoken to anyone besides Kenichi at school, especially not girls. There's no telling how the girl would perceive him after approaching her and talking to her without context. She might end up affirming that he's a creep.

"Tch_...fine, I'll come."

"That’s more like it! Now let get you out of here!"

Kenichi ushers Luka towards the door and pushes him out forcing him to move towards where he wants to take Luka.

"Kenichi, I know where the cafeteria is. You don't have to push me."

"Oh, sorry! I got carried away. Well let's go."

Both arrived at the cafeteria. Luka brought along his own lunchbox as he didn't want to spend money at the cafeteria despite the food there being cheap. In fact, Luka didn't bring much cash on him besides a few hundred yen change.

"Okay, let's find go find something to eat at the counter."

"I'll find a seat for us. I've brought my own lunch, so.."

"If that's fine with you then that's okay. I'll go buy my lunch so just go find us a space, okay?"

"Okay."

Soon enough Luka finds a place enough for two people to fit in, sits down with his lunchbox. As eats his sandwiches, he looks around the table and the cafeteria looking for the letter girl. It didn't take long before he spots her, the long shoulder length honeycomb colored hair with a cute hairpin in shape of a cat and blue eyes, wearing a girl's uniform, shirt neatly tucked into her skirt. Her face looks so pristine with no pimple or marks as if it was taken care of expertly. She seems to be a first year student with some of the girls around her, and neither did he recognize any of the new faces too. The girls wants to get to know her better as they crowd around her talking girl's business. Luka knows what he has to do as she is probably concerned about the missing envelope by now. He finishes lunch and as he was about to walk over to her table, Kenichi returns.

"Done so early already?"

"I think I saw her, I'm going to return the letter now. See back in class."

As he was about to walk there, Kenichi stops him.

"Whoa! Luka you can't just walk up to a girl's table! What if they think you are looking to get laid!?"

"Uhh, no? I'm not trying to get laid and I'm just going to walk over there and give the letter since I brought it with me. Simple."

"No, you can't just walk over there like that. You've got to talk their language, see….."

Kenichi whispers into Luka's ear as he listens about ways to approach a girl. After listening for a while Luka seems to frown at Kenichi.

"Kenichi…..have you lost your mind?"

"No! I'm serious about this! You'll get the conversation going your way once you talk to her with the way I told you to."

"I'm not gonna to do that! Might as well be digging a grave!"

"What are you saying!? It'll work! Trust me! Beside, do you really not want to return the letter?"

Having to lower a bit of his self-dignity for his friend. Luka gives in once again.

"Fine, I'll do it. Just don't laugh."

"Go get her!"

Luka walks up to the girl's table and sees the girls chatting about fashion and guys and the new ice cream store. The girl can be seen talking to her friends and nodding, smiling and laughing when they all are.

Luka tries to be as calm as possible and to remember his lines, but he forgets all of them. As he turns around to look back at Kenichi. Kenichi is talking to his basketball teammates, asking him to come join them after classes and Kenichi have no choice but to talk to them instead. Luka realizes that he better should think of something quick before he loses his chance to return the letter. Luka looks towards the girl and fastens himself as he attempts to start a conversation.

"Uhm, Hello."

The girls stop talking and turns to look at him as if expecting some white guy looking for a date with one of them or something naughtier. The surrounding tables stops to look at them, curious what the Russian has to say.

"I want you to know...”

Girls look confused but kept listening. However, Luka forgets everything and turns in the letter envelope in his hand as he shoves it in front of the girl.

“Here you dropped this earlier in the morning. I just want to give it back….so take it.”

Everyone in at the school’s lunch area looked in surprise as Luka, the most unpopular guy of the school gives a love letter to a girl in a bold manner, or at least they assume.

"Uhm….., Are you asking me out?"

The girl looks surprised yet at the same time looks embarrassed as she thought that someone asking her out for a date seems too far-fetched. Luka has no such intentions as he lay the letter in her hand.

“Uhmmm….are you_”

"Have a nice day."

Luka walks off as he exits the lunch cafeteria.

People around the cafeteria gasps in awe even louder.

"Hey Hotori-chan. Why not give this guy a chance? He doesn't seem to have any ulterior motives. Looks like he really wants it."

"Yeah why not, just imagine getting a date with a white guy. Ahh! I'm so so jealous of you now, Hotori-chan!"

"Do it, Hotori! We'll all hear you out later about what happens! It will be quite a story to share on twitter! Help me get more followers!"

Her friends cheer on as the expectations grew bigger for the girl. Hotori gives into the pressure as she would contact the guy later in the day.

Though it didn’t go as planned. Luka was glad that it worked out at least and though his inner voice is saying otherwise, the deed has already been done.

'Now you've done it. No telling what hell's gonna break loose next?'

Walking back to class, Luka looks at Kenichi giving him a thumbs up while grinning.

"You've done alright!" The his lips pronounced.

Luka let's out a sigh as the bell rings, signalling the end of the lunch break.

In an opposite corner, a group of boys can be seen with silhouette cast over their faces by curtain shades.

"Look like we’ve got another idiot to teach a lesson…"

- 6 hours later -

The sun sets to a reddish brown color as the school finishes its classes and the students makes a chatter on the campus main road as they return to their homes, talking about their days homework, their plans when they get home and of course, the incident at the cafeteria with the Russian student. Yet still even at this hour, a significant number of students stayed behind as they have club activities and Student Council meetings.

Kenichi is the school's basketball team leader so he had to stay behind to see his juniors. In fact, he promised his teammates that he would practice with them.

In the Student Council, the president is Matsumoto Inoue who oversees the event and activities at school, and supervises the disciplinary committee which involves dealing with trouble makers at school.

Inoue sits in the council room with her subordinates as they review their work for the week. After the reviews concerning clubs and funding, their meeting was adjourned.

"That is all for today. You may all head home now."

"Thank you for the hard work, Matsumoto-san."

"It's fine, I'm always up for the tasks. Now get back home safely everyone."

Her subordinates left, one after another and she too was about to leave, the head of the disciplinary committee, Yoshijima Daichi stood behind, not leaving. He turns towards Inoue to speak to her regarding an incident from an earlier week.

"Matsumoto-san. I've got something to tell you."

"Inoue is fine but go ahead."

Yoshijima's face tenses up as he begins.

"About the incident last week with Furukawa and his gang."

Once Matsumoto heard it, her face turns serious.

"Hmmm, what about them? Was the boy okay?"

"The boy that Furukawa beat up is currently in a coma at the general hospital. His mother seems to be grieving. Furukawa was at least half-decent to give a handsome cheque to lifetime medical treatment. When I asked him for the reason, he replied that he didn't like how the boy approached one of his girls. Even though it was just him asking to borrow her textbook."

Inoue thinks of the case, knowing Furukawa's involved, not even her father the Director could do anything about it because Furukawa's father is an influential member of the local prefecture government and has ties to just about everywhere, including the prefecture's board of education. Any wrong moves and the school might be forced to shut down and her father losing his position at the Education board.

"It is very unfortunate about the boy as we cannot do anything about it much less report as not to receive the wrath of the city's board of chair committee. The least we can do now is to prevent another incident like this by keeping an eye out and informally warning boys not to approach certain girls at school."

Yoshijima then mentions an incident today that he relates to the current case.

"About today, I fear that something similar is about to happen sooner or later from what I heard from students about the cafeteria incident."

"What's happened? Give me details."

Yosujima then gave the story in details.

"The Russian kid, who joined last year ended up asking for a date from one of the freshman years who happens to be one of Furukawa's new persons of interest."

Inoue, right then realizes who that is, as Luka is a close friend of Kenichi who in turn is also her childhood friend. She bites her lips.

"If Furukawa was so eager to harm someone just for borrowing a book. There's no telling what or when he will confront the guy who asked for a date. We've got to keep our eyes sharp lest we end up running the school reputation. Having my father lose his school is bad but having much less students come to school is just as bad!"

"Understood. I will tell my subordinates to keep a look out for the Russian guy and Furukawa mentions about him."

"Good and be careful."

"Yes."

The two finishes their conversation just the moment when two student barged into he committee room.

"Hey you two, you are not allowed come in here. This is restricted to the council members only."

Yoshijima scolds them, but it seems the student wanted to badly tell them something.

"We saw Furukawa and his gang up at the roof level! He and his buddies looked like they were beating up someone. We have a hunch that something bad is happening."

Inoue becomes alarmed and so did Yojima's. They know what's about to happen soon unless they stop it.

"We've got to head to the roof now!"

- Rooftop Balcony, Tokonosu Daiichi High, 10 mins earlier -

Luka waits at the school's rooftop. Just after the classes, he was informed by a classmate that the girl from earlier wants to see him after school at the rooftop. Luka accepted the invitation so he can at least clear up things with her. Not knowing whether she would arrive or not, he waited. Then, he heard footsteps before seeing a silhouette, ….no there were multiple footsteps of at least four individuals, and they sound too heavy for the girl who only managed to make a soft nudge when she bumped into him. Multiple silhouettes appeared as Luka instinctively goes into a fighting stance.

"Looking for fight now, huh?"

"You are looking for trouble aren't you!"

"We’re gonna teach you a lesson not to mess with boss’s girl!"

Day 14 (6/1)

Today was truly one for the books.

I woke up naturally at 8:30 and stayed in bed for about a half hour before I got restless, so I walked to Java House, our fav. I sat at a table by myself outside and ordered a green smoothie which was SO good and made me feel right at home, and did work on my laptop for about an hour before I switched to reading for about a half hour, and then back to work. As it’s my 100th time here, and the employees all recognize Ananya, Zodi, and me very well by now, one of the employees struck up a conversation. Turns out his cousin works for Kepler! He also told me that he likes my tattoo, which the manager of Java House also told me a few days ago, because my sun tattoo looks very similar to their logo. Then he left me to read, and another employee, a girl, came up and said she liked my tattoo and welcomed me to Kigali. They were all pretty excited about my tattoo, and ended up asking if they could have a picture with me which I thought was adorable. I also saw THE most adorable old French man at the café who, when he left, got on a moto taxi, put his helmet on, then got off, walked back to the front of Java House to wave goodbye to everyone, walked back to the taxi, got on, and held on to the driver which is a telltale sign of a tourist. Also while I was working, Jean-Jacques, a really young employee from Kepler who’s leaving soon to work fulltime for Igere, a company that he founded, came in!! He saw me on his way in and came over to chat before leaving to meet the person he was there to meet. Eventually the sun was too hot, so I went inside to a booth to charge my laptop, and I ordered food for Zodi and Ananya who were on their way. We ate a very quick lunch there and then left for Question Coffee for the coffee master class! We got there about 10 minutes early, so they gave us each a complimentary coffee drink (I got a black cold brew again and it was, again, the best cold brew I’ve EVER had) and we waited on the patio. The class was two hours long, and it was led by an amazing woman named Betty. She first told us all about Question Coffee, which, turns out, is an incredible social enterprise. It’s all funded by Michael Bloomberg, a guy from America who visited Rwanda and decided that he wanted to support 300,00 (Yes, THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND) woman coffee growers. So that’s exactly what he did. Question Coffee buys coffee beans from 300,000 female coffee growers in Rwanda, or else it helps them export their beans to other buyers. Question Coffee also trains women to be baristas, so all of the baristas (and the trainers) are women, AND Question Coffee gives espresso machines called La Marzocca to women who have completed the barista training and want to open up their own café. And all of the proceeds of the coffee sales go directly to the women farmers. Like WHAT. So after that incredible incredible history lesson, we went to their garden where they had a handful of coffee trees all at different stages in their growth, and we learned about coffee cherries and harvesting. Did you guys know that raw coffee beans are inside cherries surrounded by the sweetest juice ever?? Betty had us pop the raw beans out and suck on them (don’t chew) to taste the flavor and it was so good. After that we went back inside and smelled five of their beans ground up, then steeped with hot water, and then tasted the coffee itself, all the while filling in a flavor index sheet like we were coffee lab experts. She taught us the proper way to smell and taste the coffee, as well as how to clean the grounds off the top that rise up. Then we all chose our favorite, and got to take a bag home! Next week we’re going back to receive our very official coffee certificates. After the class Ananya and I decided we wanted to stay at Question Coffee and get work done, and Zodi left to explore. I mostly did work for Epimonía, a social enterprise I’m working with that supports refugees, because today is the first day of Refugee Awareness Month! At 6:30 we left to meet a very recent Yale grad (class of 2019) who’s from Kigali!!! He invited us to dinner at a place called Now Now Rolex, which serves traditional Ugandan street food. Unfortunately all of it is in gluten wrap, so we went there early so that I could find something to eat nearby, and luckily there was the coolest ever café right next to it called Kigali Art Café where I ordered a delicious tuna salad. While we were sitting in there waiting for my food, Ananya dropped the lid of her teapot, and a Rwandan man sitting next to us told her that in Rwandan culture, if a girl drops something, it’s believed that she’s looking for love, so a male friend of hers would say jokingly, “Looking for something?” which made us both laugh because Ananya said she noticed she’s been a lot clumsier in Rwanda! Anyways at 7 we went over to Now Now Rolex and met Zodi and then Chaste who brought a friend of his whose name I unfortunately didn’t get. She went to the same high school program that Chaste went to in Kigali, which is another social enterprise called Bridge2Rwanda which sounds very similar to Kepler. She just graduated from that and is going to Wellesley in July! They both spoke English very well and it honestly made me realize how difficult it is to only speak with people whose English isn’t that strong. But we had a great conversation about Kigali. They were really surprised with how much we’ve already seen/done (some of which they’d never heard of), and they suggested more things for us to do. And Chaste’s friend knows someone who just graduated from Bridge2Rwanda who’s going to Yale!!! So we told her to give us their contact info. I had to leave slightly before Ananya and Zodi because I had to make a Skype meeting, and the cab company was taking too long, so I took a moto taxi to Java House for the call. The streets of Kigali are so funny – there are VERY few street lights as I’ve said before, but at the intersections of the major routes, there are street lights that count down the seconds until they turn green, but are rarely listened to anyways. Normally there’s a policeman standing in the intersection directing the traffic with his hands. But anyways Chaste gave us his number, and is very interested in hanging out with us more. It was surreal talking to someone from Kigali who understood so many Yale references! AND he’s currently working on a project with Professor Wyrtzen, who was the professor who led my trip to Morocco!!!!!! It was such a great connection to make! Anyways then I got to Java House and did my two Skype meetings. When I walked in every single employee recognized me and smiled warmly and waved. I’m such a local. Zodi and Ananya got here shortly after me, and now we’re all sitting and drinking tea. Ananya ordered a side of steamed veggies which is our favorite dish here. The workers here very much know us as the people who always order off of the sides menu, but we love it. They’ve started giving us plate-fulls of the sides we order for like $2, so that’s pretty cool. Oh shoot Java closes in 2 minutes and I need to post this here where I have wifi, so I’ll post the pictures from today tomorrow when I come back hopefully!

Enginursday: A Beginner's Guide to Sourcing from Alibaba

Alibaba is the Wild West of product sourcing - a freewheeling, international bazaar offering low-cost bulk parts and products that range from the mundane to the, well, bizarre. Here, the risks are high but the potential benefits manifold. You may seek your fortune reselling low-cost goods (or finding low-cost parts for your widget), but you may find yourself flim-flammed, hoodwinked and yes, even bamboozled. But oh, the rush when your diligence pays off!

It seems excited.

I will begin with an important disclaimer: at this stage in my procurement career (and in SparkFun’s history), sourcing from Alibaba is basically the last resort. SparkFun has worked hard over the years to develop a list of trusted vendors. Many of these companies have locally-based representatives, knowledgeable sales contacts and field application engineers we can meet with face-to-face to discuss all our latest needs and quirks. Others are vendors in China, Taiwan and other countries whom we discovered via Alibaba eons ago, and have since built long-standing relationships with.

If you already have a supplier with whom you have an established, trusting relationship, love and cherish them all the days of your life. Understand also that their capabilities may extend far beyond what’s reflected in their catalog or line card. If there’s something specific you need, ask your existing contacts. At the very least, they may be able to provide you with a referral. I also highly recommend ThomasNet as an alternative starting point for finding reliable, quality sources for components, hardware, equipment, you-name-it.

That said, onto the fun. If you’re starting from scratch as we once did, or you simply like to walk on the wild side, you may be ready to plunge into the wacky world of Alibaba. Let’s begin with the search bar.

This part is pretty straightforward. Here, you can search for parts by keyword or toggle the little arrow to search for particular suppliers. As with any search, you’ll want to find that sweet spot between specificity and generality. It’s also important to know what that thing you’re looking for is called! That seems obvious enough, but keep in mind that there are different synonyms out there for the same type of product (e.g. “coin cell” vs. “button cell”), and businesses in other countries might have different naming conventions than you’re used to.

You can also browse items by market (at left) if you have a vague idea of the type of things you’re looking for and just want to peruse the marketplace. There’s also a new image search feature (the camera icon at the right). As it turns out, you can even search for products based on the current status of your life:

Time to hit the gym!

Once you’ve honed in on a thing you might want to buy in quantity, you’ll see on the product page a handy little pricing scale, info about shipping charges and lead time.

How many horse masks will you require today?

Great, right? Well, ignore it. IGNORE IT ALL. It could be accurate, sure, or it could be that the supplier just put random information in there because honestly-who-really-knows. If you want to know how much the thing costs, ask.

But first, try to learn a little about the supplier by clicking on the supplier name at right and perusing their company page. Alibaba is far less Mos Eisley Cantina-ish than it once was. They have a variety of verifications and certifications to help you sort out the legit from the sketchy, although there’s always some risk regardless. I like to see a high customer satisfaction rate, “Gold Supplier” status (multiple years is always a plus) and a decent rate of response.

Once you’ve achieved that nice, warm, fuzzy feeling, feel free to message away. At the bottom of the page you’ll see the box you can use to send a message to the supplier. I cannot stress enough how important it is to keep this first message as simple as possible. I’ve found that I’m far less likely to get a response if I include multiple questions, customization requests, lists of products, sample inquiries, etc. I know, it’s hard to imagine that somewhere a sales rep is perusing their inbox and smashing that delete button every time a message is more than three sentences long, but there it is. Here is the basic template of what I send:

Dear Mr/Ms [rep name], Hello, this is [name] with [company name]. Please quote me for [quantity] pcs of your [product name or part number]. Thanks and kind regards, [name] [email address]

That’s it! This is not to imply that Alibaba suppliers won’t send you samples, customize their product, give you quotes for multiple pricing tiers and multiple products, discuss terms, etc. This simple first email jus gets the conversation going, and you can feel free to move on to all those subjects and more once the wheel has begun turning. Alibaba has a messenger feature, but I always include my email in the signature of the first message to emphasize that I’m okay with them emailing me directly. Personally, I prefer to communicate this way, but to each their own. If you do include your email, you will eventually get spammed, so be ready. You can also make a “business card” on Alibaba, which includes your contact information, and you can choose whether to share it or not with each message you send.

Yes, there is such a thing as too much squid.

You may find you’re not satisfied with a quote or minimum order quantity (MOQ). $1,400 per ton of giant squid tentacles may be more than you are willing to pay, or perhaps you only require 10 tons of them instead of 25. Again, ask away. Alibaba reps often have room to haggle. If you have other quotes or retail pricing to show them for comparison, go for it. Just don’t be a jerk about it. Consider what you might be able to offer them to make it worth their while.

If an MOQ is higher than you’re willing to commit to, it doesn’t hurt to see if the supplier has some flexibility there, too. Maybe they can lower it if you commit to purchasing multiple different products (giant squid eyeballs?). You might also consider committing to multiple smaller orders spaced out over the course of a year, assuming you’re confident in your volume projections. If you have a slew of questions, I recommend putting them in a numbered list to avoid important details getting lost in a big block of text.

I always request at least one sample before agreeing to purchase an item in quantity. Usually, suppliers with whom you do not have an existing relationship will expect you to pay for the sample, and that’s quite understandable. Sometimes they’ll just request that you cover the shipping. I usually ask them to send an invoice with a PayPal ID/email, but you can also pay directly via Alibaba. It’s important when requesting a sample (as with a full order quantity) to confirm what it is you’ll be receiving before committing to it. Some product pages display multiple products, or have multiple versions of a single product available with varying specs. Requesting a datasheet, manual, or any other supporting documentation is crucial.

This may require some vetting.

Once you’ve received, evaluated and approved a sample, you may be ready to commit to a full order. I won’t dive too far down the rabbit hole of payment terms, but most Alibaba suppliers will expect money up front, often via bank wire transfer (“T/T”) or PayPal, at least for your first order. Be wary of Western Union, as it offers relatively little protection against scams.

Alibaba also offers its own Alibaba Secure Payment platform. I haven’t personally used it for more than small dollar (usually sample) transactions, but it does offer a path for disputing transactions. You will also want to work out your shipping method and terms with the supplier. That is yet another topic that could be a post unto itself.

No, we don't make scooters.

A final word of caution: be wary of copyright, trademark and patent infringement. Even companies that are generally open source still aren’t exactly thrilled with companies impersonating their brand. It’s one thing to build off an existing design, but it’s another thing entirely to copy it and slap another’s logo on there. Knockoffs tend to hide quality and reliability problems behind the mask of others’ hard work and diligence. And they leave the real companies’ support personnel scrambling to field questions about products that end up having nothing to do with them. So once again, don’t be a jerk.

Moreover, should you choose to be a jerk nonetheless (or inadvertently stumble into jerkhood), customs often stops shipments of knocked off products, and you as a reseller are potentially liable for the things you choose to put on the market. Some violations are harder to spot than others. Did you know you can trademark a vague color combination? Well, neither did we!

Which leads me to another thing: educate yourself on product compliance issues (RoHS, CE, FCC, Prop 65, etc.), export restrictions, etc., or consult with someone who can get you on track in that vein. There’s a whole prairie full of rabbit holes there.

Anyway, if you want to source on Alibaba, just remember the five Ds:

1) Don’t take anything for granted 2) Documentation, documentation, documentation 3) Don’t be a jerk 4) Do do do due diligence 5) Dkeep it simple

Be careful out there, folks. Take my timeless wisdom into consideration, trust your instincts and you will (probably?) do just fine. Reasons Why I Will Never Go Back For Holiday to Belitung

If you are following my story on Instagram, you would notice lately I went to an island for a short journey over the weekend. I went to visit a not-so-famous island located at east part of Sumatera island, called Belitung, as well as a few other smaller islands around the main island. Belitung is considered as one of the richest islands in Indonesia. The island of Belitung produces more than 90 percent of the tin in Indonesia, which is the world's biggest exporter of the metal. In my deepest heart and very honest of mine, short getaway visiting this island was one of my worst decisions I’ve ever made in the entire life!

No joke!

If I ever have a second chance to go back to Belitung, I would definitely stay longer & have a better plan than my last trip. I swear I will never go back again for holiday to Belitung … - wait, I know most probably of you click this link because of the controversial words I put on the title - I mean I will never go back again to Belitung if it is just a short getaway for 2 or 3 days. I need to stay there at least 1 week simply because this island literally has bunch of things to see! :p

2 weeks ago, I decided to fly to this island with friends of mine. The only thing I know about this island is - well, as you expect already - about the Laskar Pelangi movie. I didn’t expect that this island has a very beautiful landscape to offer till I see it all by myself once I land here.

Pantai Tanjung Tinggi

Located in between two peninsula in north part of the island around 30 minutes away from capital city Tanjung Pandan, this beach mostly known as Pantai Laskar Pelangi because this beach was featured in the Rainbow Troops movie. The beach? I would say, this is going to be most recommended beach to you when you are visiting the main island Belitung.

Once you are here, you will see there are big rocks that form a tunnel through which you can walk through. This place offers a gorgeous panorama view with beautiful coral reefs that can be see with the naked eye. You may also help the local business by renting banana boat or jet skis to enjoy the exotic and very compelling view too. The price? nothing to worry about, they won’t cheat you. I can say the price is very fair. Up until now I still remember the details of the place and how good the view is.

Danau Kaolin

Lake Kaolin used to be called mine Kaoling because this place used to be tin mining area. It’s true tin mining on this sleepy island off Sumatra has brought wealth but at a price, this hurts our earth and literally eating away at the land.

But in the other hand, due to the environmental damage over the years some artificial lakes naturally have formed. The result, you may find a very beautiful landscape with spectacular blue colour spot or what my millennial generation labelled as an Instagrammable spot.

And It’s pretty easy to visit this place. It’s just 3 kms away from the city center Tanjung Pandan!

Laskar Pelangi School

Let us get back to talk about the basic thing that makes this island became famous. Laskar Pelangi or Rainbow Troops, is a 2008 Indonesian movie adapted from the popular same title book written by Andrea Hirata. The film is the highest grossing in Indonesian box office history.

This school was once a witness the journey of 10 children that come from not so fortunate family and their two inspirational teachers as they are all struggle with poverty yet still develop hopes for the better future.

This school indeed got me chill. Since I read the book and watch the movie.

This is a reminder that there is a lot we take for granted in this country which is a privilege in other, less fortunate places - such as the right free education

Island Hop to the Smaller Island!

Alright, while you are in Belitung you literally need to make sure to free your schedule for a day to do this island hop to smaller islands off to the main island. I’m obsessed with the spectacular views from all of these islands! I went to 5 smaller islands off to the main island. Here you go!

1st: Batu Garuda Island

1st stop! Well, honestly I didn’t go there because it was pretty hot and I decided to skip this spot because it is just rocks. BUT, please do not follow what I did. Now, I kind of regret it. I should have spare some time to enjoy the view here instead :(

2nd: Pasir Island

Am I dreaming? No I am not.

Yes, I know right.

And when you know how much it means, you find that special thing. You are flying without wings

Honestly, this island is the most favourite island on this island hoping trip. I am literally amazed with the view in this island. Well, it’s not literally an island though. You can only land on this ‘island during the dry season.

Don’t ever think you can sleep over on this island because this is nothing but a patch of sand around 5-10 meters in diamater.

You can often find stranded starfish here to pose with. BUT please DO NOT touch it or even BRING this cute patrick home. If you taking them out of water you are only making this cutie patrick stressed. Remember, they are all part of nature DO NOT bring it to your home for your decoration. Just DO NOT :)

3rd: Lengkuas Island

Or you may say, the iconic Pristine beach of Belitung which is known for their lighthouse built during dutch colonial and it is still used today.

I suggest you to climb all the way up 19 levels to have a bird’s eye view of the island and its surroundings with very clear water seabed view which is MAJOR SPECTACULAR.

Can you spot me?

You have to pay 5,000 rupiahs to enter. But it is very cheap with what you will get to see when you are at the top of the lighthouse.

4th: Pulau Babi

This is actually an island where it is a little bit civilised among the others smaller islands. You may find a good food for your lunch in the middle of your island hoping journey. It is actually good island too for picture anyways!

5th: Batu Berlayar Island

Alright, the trip is almost over! I was pretty sad when my guide said this is the last island for this journey.

But who would be sad if you can swim in natural swimming pool the pristine water, exploring deserted island and just being outdoors!

6th: Snorkelling Time?

You guys, really, need to do this activity while you are doing island hoping. Because it is just, YOU HAVE TO DO THIS! Why? See la these pictures below!
