with riverdale wrapping today i just wanna say even though it was a dumpster fire near the end i appreciate the earlier seasons a lot, they really kept me sane during a time when i didn't feel like it. and im like genuinely feeling so sad that it's ending, i don't even watch it anymore and im still like 'noo im going to miss this show 🥺' as if i even know why betty and veronica are dancing around in bubbles or whatever.
im going to miss seeing the randomest bts on the cast's instagram and wondering what in the world was happening this time, I'll miss the characters and mourn what they used to be, I'll remember the frankly insane lines to come out of this show (in case you haven't noticed, im weird, im a weirdo, i dont fit in and i don't wanna fit it, have you ever seen me without this stupid hat on?) and will be quoting archie everytime i get a hate anon (they're only hating cuz they haven't experienced the high's and low's of high school football)
i met some of the loveliest ppl through this show and I'm so grateful for each and every person <33 and as the town of riverdale goes to sleep for the last time i hope we can all remember what we loved abt it in the first place ✌️

In light of the season finale coming in a brief few days
I would like to give a big BugVarChoni congrats to our lovely Choni Fandom
(which I am majorly apart of as a Sapphic woman but do not have a blog)
I really REALLY HOPE this is not bait and is an actually wholesome and loving reunion, and not just some cheating plot thrown together that ends next season as a "it was the end of the world thing"
We will eat nonetheless, as this is going to be the only thing I will be watching the finale for.
I can't wait to see a million gif sets and edits and fanfics after the episode airs.

I'm rewatching riverdale and I'm on 3x15 (I took a couple week break from watching lol) and regardless of who you ship you can't deny the show was so much better in s1-4, it was never the best written but it was better written back then and the ships were written so well and were so perfect (bugvarchoni I mean) and not only romantic ships the friendships were so good back then as well!! all the girls were having scenes and beronica and jarchie we're better then and the core four then ofc they ruined everything and s6 has brought some friendships back but their still not the same imo I mean in 3x22 veronica drinks that last cup of poison for betty!!! where did that beronica go ugh everything was just much better and I hate how it's not that good-ish anymore! I like s6 more than S5 because the storyline is kinda interesting but it's still not great!! I wanna go back to s1 where it was just this little show about a murder mystery and the start of bugvarchie ugh and let me be clear I also ship barchie a lot too but my otps are bugvarchie and always will be and imo there's still hope for them as endgame otherwise why isolate jughead from tabitha and why bring up the fact varchie has just as much of a chance as barchie at endgame I just think S7 will be about rebuilding the og ships that were couples majority of the series! but idc about that right now I'm looking forward to a break from this show tbh lol it's too negative and stressful lol

this episode literally showed us that jughead keeps acting as betty’s emotional support because she went to him and opened up about feeling like an open wound and not knowing how to help herself. going into betty’s mind opened the flashback of their love for jughead. archie was veronica’s last meaningful kiss and their powers they are getting mixed together. bugvarchoni were always supposed to be the endgame of riverdale and they will be.
i agree with you 100%
and i was also blindsided but how meaningful bughead was for this episode. their history, but not only their connection, their romantic history was all over it. if i shipped ba i'd be trembling, but thankfully god didn't let me bring this shame to my family.

see this is hard because I've seen a lot of really fucking stupid opinions but to keep it riverdale specific I'd have to say that one time a user tried to argue w me and accuse of being lesbiphobic (lesbophobic? idk. anti ladies kissing) because I said I thought CANONLY bisexual fangs and toni were cute together. there was also that time somebody sent me an ask on my main blog saying they were 19 and never really learned about slavery before though.
25 - common fandom complaint you're sick of hearing
for the sake of avoiding too much discourse and backlash I'm gonna go w something relatively tame here. personally I hate the fandoms push for bugvarchoni endgame, especially during the last two seasons. bughead is dead in the water and they've both moved on. choni ending was the best thing that could've happened for toni's character because the writers bombed that so hard. and I don't think archie ending up with betty OR veronica makes sense for the narrative of the show. it'd be boring.

SOMETIMES and I really mean OCCASIONALLY barchie has cute moments. I don't ship them but sometimes I get it.

what do you think about the theories some barchie shippers have that betty will be pregnant or wanting to try to be pregnant in the finale?? I'm neutral because I ship barchie, bughead and varchie but I don't want betty to be pregnant and I don't see that happening and I still believe bugvarchie are the endgames and barchie/jabitha will break up! I mean some barchies think bughead is over because cole/Lillie's breakup I saw someone send a message to a friend about it and they clearly don't have a problem kissing since they have done it since their rl breakup lol I think they'll be working to bring back bugvarchie in s7 it's the only endgames that make sense especially considering except for this season bugvarchie dated in every season (bh started s5 dating it counts) I just see a bugvarchoni endgame idc who thinks I'm crazy and I don't see betty getting pregnant or wanting kids based on her reactions in 612/613 now if these writers could actually let her say how she truly feels about it lol even if she doesn't have the gene and it was Polly I don't see that changing her mind about having kids lol
I mean I really, really don't think it'll come to be. I don't want Betty having a baby with anyone right now, and while I'd love BH babies, that's very much a last episode thing. I don't know if she'll want it but she is NOT ready now, with anyone.
I definitely think, especially based on the way they've treated the 'Vale ships, that they are not long for any world. Nothing about the way they're being portrayed tells me that. Yeah, I definitely think by end of season this won't be a debate.

on today’s episode of essay-length hot takes nobody asked for:
So I freak out and internally implode whenever ~bughead~ doesn’t let their ship set sail as much as the next person, but I’ve been (over) thinking about it and maybe doing all this weird ‘everyone breaking up and going to the person they dont really work with’ is actually a good thing in the long run.
Not saying I like it, in fact I have approximately seven fanfics that deeply demonstrate HOW MUCH i don’t like it, but this is the canon storyline we’ve got.
Since the writers clearly want to drag it all out for as long as possible because they… want to (their choice, its their work of art, we can only glare at it from afar), perhaps they’re trying to go full circle and prove that couples like bughead, varchie, choni and even kangs are the ones that will work out in the end.
here’s my reasoning:
Yes, I have scrolled as fast as humanly possible through my dashboard to avoid the jughead and tabitha gifs, and earlier today learned that they sang ‘perfect for you’ and my immediate reaction, after I’d finished mourning their platonic friendship, was just *vomit emoji*. But, then I saw the lyrics to perfect for you…. And it sounds like Jughead is trying to change himself into being someone ‘perfect’ so that tabitha will like him. That just doesn’t strike me as either healthy or long lasting. He shouldn’t HAVE to change himself to be in a relationship with Tabitha. Get better, yes, because he’s recovering, but change himself??? They were good friends, they worked well as a team, but in none of those interactions did he try to change himself to make her happy. So why is he now??
And take Fangs and Toni for a moment - they just had a baby together, and they’re apparently in love after one episode (hey if it works for barchie and veggie then why not -.-), but really, aren’t they doing this because they work well as a team and are starting to think ‘maybe we can be a perfect little happy family’???
And Veronica and Archie (won’t lie didn’t watch the musical ep so can’t be sure) broke up because they see themselves doing different things in life (?) and veronica wants to go back to New York. And she wants to work on herself (valid) and for some reason goes back to Reggie the sister-swapping gigolo next ep (whom she made THIS face at when she found out:
But I digress.)
With this in mind, I would assume Veronica is fearful that, like she lost herself in her relationship with Chad, she’ll lose herself in her relationship with Archie because he isn’t a big time New York City high roller like Reggie must want to be. So she’s hoping that maybe Reggie, who she works well with in a team, could be the one for her.
Now, Betty and Archie…. My soul shivers with cold despair as I even type this, but let’s humour them for a second. Archie is upset that veronica has left him, betty has been shown to use sex as a coping mechanism to avoid her trauma, makes sense they might start their FWB situation again, right??
Except…
Betty is devastated by the loss of her sister and needs to stay in Riverdale, Archie needs to stay in riverdale because he has 673 jobs there, and both of them have shit they want to move on from or be distracted from - they’ve been shown to work well (dare i say it?) as a team, and they’re apparently good friends with each other, so why not give dating a go since their first choices (and make no mistake, Veronica is Archie’s first choice and Jughead was Betty’s first choice) are unavailable and they’re both depressed, traumatised and lonely??
So this should all be just fine and dandy, then right?? Everyone’s happy with their friends-to-lovers relationships, they can frolic blissfully in Pickens park with the loves of their lives shouting “Go teamwork!” Because this is the height of passion! Right??
No.
None of the above mentioned ships have achieved anything more than showing that the characters are SETTLING for the relationships that are ‘second’ best because they’ve come to the conclusion that this is safer than going for the ones they really love. You can’t get burned by your second choice because they don’t hold your heart in their hands - after all, you haven’t truly given it to them.
So if all goes to what I think (hope) is the plan, then by the end of this mysterious 5 episode event, most of these ships should have realised that their relationships are all just relationships of convenience. They aren’t passionate about each other. They are trying to force themselves into a ‘perfect’ relationship that suits what they think they need.
But inevitably:
Betty will realise that nobody understands her like Jughead. Nobody else lets her feel vulnerable and shows her its okay to open up. Jughead will realise he doesn’t have to change himself to suit a relationship, and he and Tabitha can still be friends - Betty accepted his darkness for what it was, and he loved her even when she showed him hers.
Veronica will realise that she doesn’t have to give up being who she is, even if she chooses to live in Riverdale. And she doesn’t need to be with another Hiram-Lodge wanna be - she loves the small town boy who tries to be good rather than rich. She sees the value in his desire to help others, and HE sees her passionate nature and refusal to give up when she knows something is right!
Toni and Fangs will part amicably as happy little coparents, and i’m sure Kevin and Cheryl will eventually sort their shit out - what’s beautiful about these four though, is that they’ve been working on themselves all season and have actually spoken to each other a fair bit. I’m not even going to pretend to know whats up with Cheryl, but she at least leaves Thornhill occasionally now, and while I don’t know how its going to happen, i’m sure kangs and choni will rise.
On that note, fangs still doesn’t know kevin wanted to win him back, so that can be some actual tension between the characters in the coming episodes.
So where does that leave Tabitha and Reggie?
I can see it going two ways:
1. Tabitha franchises pops diner and moves back to Chicago where she doesn’t need no man, and Reggie keeps being a little philanthropist car salesman (possibly still hooking up with veronica’s sister)
2. #Teggie rising???
They’re both very driven people, both business-minded, both excited about the opportunities life has to offer AND they’ve both been shown to be incredibly ambitious.
They’ve hardly interacted this entire season…. Maybe the writers are Saving a sneaky little surprise for when all the main ships get back together??
We can hope.
Anyway, I wrote this instead of an overdue essay (a real one for my masters degree) so i’m gonna leave my theories in the tumblr void for the time being. Let me know what you think :)

The one thing I liked for the time jump (except the BA plot) was that each couple (VA, BH & CT) break up differently so the roads to be together will be different too. VA broke up gracefully (despite V deserving better) and I did liked that. Choni ended up somehow amicably but honestly I think this plot is going to make Cheryl grow up/mature. BH - we knew the BA thing hurt J the most cuz that’s some insecurity he had - it makes sense for BH to end up like they did (which is why it’ll take time)
you’re right. i like how each couple is in a different place together or apart because as it turns out, individual people react differently to things.

oh cheryl. she’s...unhinged? or was? maybe she’ll learn from this. i have no idea tho, she’s always been a bit, uh, you know. like that. but i do think she and toni care about each other and will end up back together.
and varchie, yeah, they’re definitely more mature and handled things better in the past than bughead did.
bughead. sigh. our babies. they’re both hurting so much right now and it’s like, okay, so we’re gonna need you to fix all of that but then also, someone give them a hug? let them yell at each other for a bit if they need to get some stuff out, this silence and staring and barely communicating isn’t good and it’s going to come out somehow.
they have so much tension going on between them that it’s going to snap and we’re all going to end up on the floor in our feels when it does.
i think for varchie, they’ve been given a lot of the right person, wrong time stuff that a lot of couples in fiction get over the course of the show and bughead has always been treated as soulmates (hey, thanks ronnie, for that distinction) and it’s always hit them so much harder to be apart.
(do we thank ras for that or side eye because honestly i am willing to do both. i contain multitudes)
