When Klaus fell in love and realized he was in love with Cami in your opinion?

Well Anon, thanks for this question. It felt magical to goback to the beginnings of Season 1 and relive the chemistry and complicitybetween Klaus and Cami.

I think it’s extremely hard to pinpoint the exact momentwhen Klaus fell in love with Cami, especially because Camille has seen the manbehind the monster from the very beginning and the understanding they share, it’sbeen the foundation of their relationship since day one. More importantly thanbeing in love with one another, Klaus and Camille understand each other on adeeper level than most people. It’s like a single look can break down all the wallsthey’ve built around each other and reveal what hides behind them, their trueessence. And that is the main reason why their love story is unlike any eitherof them has experienced before.

Falling in love with someone is a pretty strong sensation, soI’m a bit apprehensive to call it love at first sight, but the truth is it wasalmost the case. In my view, there are two moments which made Klaus fall inlove with Camille, none more important than the other because they complementeach other.

The first one is their second meeting on The Vampire Diaries4x20, the original pilot episode of The Originals. I know it may seem weirdthat I chose a scene where they barely even look at each other, but it’s moreabout what’s being said than what’s being done. The fact is Camille solved themystery of Klaus’s essence in their second meeting. She got him all figured outthe second she saw him, and you know why? Because they are the same.

Klaus has always felt angry and he has always had a darknessinside, and even though he won’t let anyone see it, he is terrified hiscountless enemies may hurt him or his loved ones, his family. He is paranoidand seeks to keep his reputation as a ruthless monster because deep down he islost, he is afraid, he is insecure. He wants someone to love him and make himfeel like home, make him feel safe, make him feel happy. He wants to losehimself in someone and let himself love deeply, unconditionally, eternally,because that is the way Klaus Mikaelson loves. Without reservations or secondthoughts, he is all in.

But this all applies to Cami as well. She has a darkness toher that she has been trying to hide and bury for too long; she also feelslonely, angry, terrified. Her brother murdered innocent people and committedsuicide and she has no idea why it happened: that is the demon that controlsher, that makes her fear the world and be angry at it at the same time. So sheputs up walls and pretends she is not afraid of anything when deep down, shefeels just as lost and insecure as Klaus does.

From the very moment they met, Cami knew in her bonesthat they shared the same pain, the same demons, the same torments. There wassomething drawing her to him, something which allowed her to see the real KlausMikaelson when no one else could. And he was amazed by it. Because for thefirst time in a long time, there was someone who wasn’t afraid of him; someonewho seemed to accept his demons and have the power to heal him.

However, it wasn’t until 1x03 that I think he really fell inlove with her. After the masquerade, which was the clearest sign the writerscould ever possibly give with Camille dressed in white as an angel,representing purity, goodness and light, and Klaus dressed in black,representing torment, evil and darkness, they sat down and had a heart-to-heartconversation where for the first time, he could take a glimpse at who she wasas well. Suddenly, Klaus realized she wasn’t the only one who could read himlike an open book. He could read her as well. He could tell she had a brokenheart and a broken trust, that she had her own dark, tormented past and yetkept pushing forward despite it. He realized that the reason why she could seeinside him so easily, was because she was just like him. And he fell in lovewith the person that she was, understanding, pure, good. Damaged and flawed,just like him, but still a fighter, just like him.

I don’t think Klaus ever found someone who completes him aswell as Camille does. They are opposites and yet they are so similar, they aredrawn to each other’s light and darkness, they become whole when they aretogether. In that moment, he felt something for her he had never felt before. Idon’t think he knew it was love yet because I don’t think he had everexperienced such a deep connection to someone outside his family, but it was.And it was love which made him push her away, because he was still too scaredto let himself feel, to let himself get attached to someone as fragile andmortal as her. He was afraid to love her.

He was for a very long time, playing around and pretendingto enjoy her company merely as a friend when it was so much more than that. Until1x09. That is when I think Klaus finally let himself understand he wascompletely and unconditionally in love with this woman.

Any other person would just obey when Klaus Mikaelson ordersthem to leave, but not Cami. She never blindly followed his commands, not evenwhen he compelled her to do so. She speaks her mind and when he is wrong, sheis not afraid to tell him so. He is not used to that. He is not used to someoneknowing him so well and realizing the only reason why he wants to send themaway is because he is afraid of his own feelings. When Camille started seeingKlaus for who he really was, he was afraid of what she might think of him. Hewas afraid of what he might feel towards her.

So he hid behind his monster façade, but even that didn’tscare her. Camille always wanted to know more about him, to know everythingthere was to know about him, because whether she wanted to admit it or not, shewas starting to fall in love with him. And so, in his last attempt to push heraway from him, he shows her one of the most traumatic moments of his entirelife. A moment when he is a full-blown beast, when even his father hates himand the brother he loves most in the world couldn’t help him.

You know what always breaks my heart every single time Iwatch this scene? How he was 100% sure she would want to run away from himafter this.

He is on the verge of tears by the time she catches her breath andprocesses everything she has just witnessed. He didn’t want to do this, showher the monster he truly is. He wanted to be the man he saw through her eyes,tormented and troubled, but not a beast. And now he has shattered that image andshe will never be capable of loving him again, a love he needed so badly.

And then she reaches back to him, and it’s like he cansuddenly breathe again. For a second there, he doesn’t believe it. He doesn’tbelieve she didn’t run away from him; she ran towards him. She wanted to shieldhim from harm, to tell him she was sorry for what he had to endure, that he didn’tdeserve that, no one did. And in that very moment, Klaus realized this was thewoman he loved like he had never loved before. A woman who could see a man whodidn’t deserve to be hurt where everyone else could only see a beast that hadto be contained. A woman who wouldn’t let him push her away or scare her toleave because she cared so deeply about him. A woman who would love him for theperson he is, good and bad, light and darkness.

That realization is what makes Klaus compel Camille to leaveNew Orleans and forget about him forever. He allows himself a glimpse at whatloving her would be like when he places a hand on her cheek, and then it’s over.Her love makes him a better man, it heals him, makes him breathe again. Withouther he isn’t sure he can survive, but it doesn’t matter if it means he can keepher safe. His intentions are entirely selfless; he is willing to lose a love he craved for his whole life to make sure she gets a chance at a normal,peaceful existence, like she deserves. Klaus Mikaelson loves Camille O’Connell enoughto let her go after learning he is in love with her.

That is the man her love turns him into. Selfless, good,someone who embraces his light and fights for the ones he loves even if itmeans he will get hurt in the process. A hero.

Therapist and her patient???

I was arguing with a kl*roline stan yesterday (ik we should steer clear but this one was too deluded)

and this mf turned around and said Cami was a predator and problematic bc she fell in love with her vulnerable patient

the patient being a millennium old hybrid, who sought her out, had an attraction to her before their "sessions" had even begun, and is in no way vulnerable in this dynamic

Cami being a 23 year old PSYCH STUDENT, NOT A LICENSED THERAPIST...i rlly wanna know where this idea of Cami being a professional has come from bc it was never said in the show, Ive also studied psych does that immediately make me a therapist

It was even stated in the show that she wasnt an actual therapist, just someone who had an understanding of the mind which is why Klaus was fascinated

Cami: "I think you would benefit from speaking to someone professionally" then Klaus saying he would prefer to talk to her

If Miss O'Connell was a licensed therapist u think she'd be in Rousseau's serving drinks?!?! She literally just graduated college (they also said klaus and cami's age gap was just as bad as klaus and cares.....caroline being the high school student who legally cant drink yet)

just wanted to make that clear bc some ppl really be acting like she was the aggressor in their dynamic and that klaus was "a vulnerable puppy who grew unhealthy bonds bc of her manipulation."
