Richard Burton and Sophia Loren at Brockenhurst railways station, England, in 1974, for the re-shoot of the classic film of star-crossed lovers, ‘Brief Encounter’.

Day One Hundred and Four
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well rested and up at 7am this morning in a pleasantly sheltered patch of trees a little outside of Wareham, it's time for another day at it!
On to the road, it's an easy start to the day with a gentle roll over the River Frome and through the nice little town of Wareham.
The place still seems to be in the process of waking up currently, and the streets are nice and quiet as I ride through and out over the River Piddle or Trent.
Rather than getting the overpriced ferry down at Shell Bay, I'm tracking around the bay and heading up the A351, which has a nice compliment of cyclable pathways running up past the busy dual carriageway junctions and into Upton.
A bice long run of road down through Hamworthy brings me back to the waterside once more to the nice quayside down at Poole.
It's now time for a stretch of riding that I've been looking forward to since seeing its potential coming up in the map, with many decent flat miles ahead of waterside riding. Let's get to it!
Around Poole Quay and past the harbourside, the trail leada on through Baiter Park with the water lapping up right next to the paving.
The path rolls past the boating lake before a short leg through some busy roads, before dropping dowj back onto the shore road.
I follow the road out for a loop around Sandbanks and past the ferry terminal, before heading back and turning off to hit the beach.
Ahead is a beautiful long run of promenade next to the lovely sandy beach, running for miles below Bournemouth's pretty cliffsides.
The day is a little grey still which is keeping tue seaside a bit quieter so far, which means fewer pedestrians to navigate around as I enjoy a nice gentle flat ride around the beach.
It's a lovely bit of riding as I roll up and around Bournemouth Pier and onwards along the full run of promenade up to the far edge of Southbourne, where I pick back up with NCN Route 2 as it heads up over the River Stour and in through Christchurch.
The town is quite busier than the beach today, so I keep at the trail as it heads out around some nice trails through Stanpit Marsh and then up along the side of the River Mude.
Past some busy road junctions, the route does a good job of keeping out of traffic is it twists through some back roads and out into the countryside once more.
It's time for another unland diversion here with a bit that I've been looking forward to as Route 2 heads up into the beautiful woodlands and moors or the New Forest.
After meandering through the roads here, the route heads past Holmsley and hits the offroad trails through open land filled with horses and cattle roaming freely.
The terrain isn't ideal for my loaded touring bike, but I'm setting a gentle pace and ensuring the bumps and rocks aren't too much of a hazard.
The route heada down some lovely forested trails and along a lovely old rail line before swinging into Brockenhurst.
Even the more urban parts of New Forest are amazing to see, as horses and donkeys roam the streets here and do not give one single damn about the flowing traffic.
With a bemused smile on my face, I roll through and out of town and back to the trails, where I have to navigate through another herd of horses.
I also catch sight of an elusive grass snake speeding out of my way, which causes a laugh of joy. They're an animal I've loved since I was a child and seeing one is a highlight of the entire trip.
Slowly making my way along the stoney trail, the route through the forests lead out past the campsite at Denny Wood and onto the road across the wide open moors. There's a good bit of crosswind blowing along here, but the cycle route soon turns once again to set it at my back.
Past more moorlands and patches of woods, the route heads past a busy bypass and into the edges of Applemore with a convenietly placed supermarket for me to stop off at.
With the day getting in and a long urban stretch ahead, it looks like a good position to settle up for the day!
It's been a very enjoyable run today and the terrain is getting so much easier to tackle now I'm out of the real tough hills and cliffs if the West Country. A check of the map suggests that I may only be around 400 or so miles from the end of my ride now, which is a scarily short distance considering how far I've come! We'll see how the rest of the week unfurls!
TTFN!

understanding the brand:
it is an independent bar selling craft and Belgian beers
they host different things on different nights: comedy, live music, pub quiz, as well as entering beer festivals in the new forest and Southampton
they also offer other drinks and foods
usp: live blues and vinyl djs and other social activities and events through the week
the company has been founded by three friends who wanted to make more of an experience out of a bar and bring it to life with blues music
this summer they are attending Craft Beer South september 2024 where they will be serving beer and food alongside live music
they are also attending new forest beer fest in brockenhurst alongside 10 other local brewers as a celebration of the local brewing talent.
the bar sells 4 real ales on pump, 3 bag in box real ciders and 18 keg beers alongside a range of bottled and canned beers from local breweries and breweries across europe and usa
I can see that there is a lot of care and passion put into this brand and the owners are proud of what they have created and nurtured and it would make sense for them to want to bring out their own line of beers. they are driven by local talent whether that be brewing talent or music and entertaining talent, so that is definitely at the heart of the brand.
i will now go on to look at their social media, online presence and current branding to understand what visuals are relevant to them.

Ashley Heath Halt. by David Hopkins Via Flickr: Ashley Heath was a halt on the former Southampton & Dorchester Railway which ran from Lymington Junction, Brockenhurst to Hamworthy Junction via Ringwood. The station here was opened in 1927 and closed to passengers in May 1964. This picture is looking towards the former Woolsbridge Crossing and where it crossed Horton Road. 29th December 2023.

ISTD - Boscome Residents Survey
To learn more about the opinions and feelings of Boscome's residents, I created a survey via SurveyMonkey and posted it on Boscome community groups on Facebook. Unfortunately I struggled to get many results, with only 4 respondents. However, despite this I have found the results very valuable in understanding the perspectives of residents.I will showcase the questions and answers below.
Question 1: What age range are you?
Tumblr media
Question 2: What is your gender identity?
Tumblr media
Question 3: How long have you lived in Boscome?
Tumblr media
Question 4: What changes have you seen in Boscome since you have lived here?
Respondent 1: There is more evidence on a focus on street art & independent shops but it’s evolving VERY slowly. There are still many low budget chains (fast food/ Poundland etc.) but lots of shops are derelict, which have huge potential for pop ups/ creative hubs. The O2 has been a big feature to draw crowds.
Respondent 2: The local community is working hard to shed the Rehab label. To become a thriving & vibrant place for food, drink & entertainment.
Respondent 3: we only moved here in august, but it’s lovely.
Respondent 4: More independent shops, lively music venues.
Question 5: How often do you visit the High Street (Christchurch Rd & Sovereign Centre)
Tumblr media
Question 6: Do you feel a sense of community living in Boscome?
Tumblr media
Question 7: Following from the previous question, if yes, please elaborate. If not, please explain why.
Respondent 1: There are a range of people I know from the community and shops which gives a sense of community - Wilco in particular were very friendly to customers.
Respondent 2: There is still an element of alcohol, drugs & violence. I never walk on my own in Boscombe after dark.
Respondent 3: it’s just a nice community to live in.
Respondent 4: I have a business in Boscombe and feel a strong sense of community with other local shop keepers.
Question 8: Do you believe the reputation of Boscome is fair?
Tumblr media
Question 9: Following from the question above, if yes, please elaborate. If no, please explain why.
Respondent 1: I work in Brockenhurst and everyone is always surprised when I mention I live in boscombe- it still harbours a reputation of being dangerous and poverty stricken. I adore Boscombe and still believe it has huge potential but it’s hindered by a corrupt council not allowing business owners/ creatives more control on improving the area.
Respondent 2: I haven’t seen anything bad since being here
Respondent 3: Unjustified bad reputation
Respondent 4: Unanswered
Question 10: Briefly explain the best and worst things about living in Boscome.
Respondent 1: Best- convenience, beach, independent shops, O2, not pretentious, the market, variety of cultures/ nationalities. Worst- the council, sovereign centre/ arcade need updating/ modernising, derelict shops.
Respondent 2: The drugs, excess alcohol, the homeless, the people who just hang around drinking from before 7 in the morning to after dark. I have to catch the bus to work in the morning, I no longer catch it from the main high street, as I don't feel safe standing at a bus stop alone. The best bit, from where I live it's a quick ten minute walk to the beach!
Respondent 3: close to the beach, and gorgeous sights
Respondent 4: Great eateries and bars, worst = people moaning about it

[ad_1] The date was July 28, 2000, when hundreds of locals gathered in anticipation to witness an impressive procession of floats snaking through the village centre. Atop a fire engine, Brockenhurst firefighters kicked off an eventful procession. Next in the parade came two marching groups from Southampton - the Royale Rangerettes and the Cherub Twirlers. Representing their city proudly, these two teams of dancers and twirlers followed one another down the street. The Brockenhurst carnival drew in participants from local youth organizations. Representing these organizations, children came to take part in the festivities. One organisation out to knock spots off other entries was the Busy Badgers parent and toddler group, whose float was based on 101 Dalmatians. The youngsters of Brockenhurst Playgroup took on the roles of characters from The Wizard Of Oz, while children living in Addison Road decided to dress up as the Teletubbies for their costumes. Pupils at William Gilpin School, Boldre, together with friends from Lymington and Pennington Junior Schools, portrayed a scene from the musical Cats. Nine-year-old Holly Milner was chosen to be the carnival princess, and she proudly rode through town in a 1933 Alvis car accompanied by her attendants. One of the most unusual vehicles in the parade was a Saracen armoured personnel carrier owned by Barney Edwards, of Lymington. Mr Edwards had bought the vehicle two months prior after seeing it in a field at Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. [ad_2]
