Ahahaha I WAS SURE IT WAS THE ONE WHO INTRIGUED YOU!!!! Because I know (I'm sure), you know, what this is about^^
Rio arrived at his new school, headphones around his neck, cassette player in his pocket. He was going to start the day with chemistry, not his favorite subject, but at least they could do some fun experiments.
After a very short presentation, he moved to the only empty seat in the class, and was greeted by the two village fools. Rio switched off his player, ending his rap session, and sat down.
The second idiot reiterated his buffoonery by imitating a fake cough. "Loser."
Rio had two options, ignore them or put them in their place. "Yo, guys, your sketch is outdated. In Detroit they got swag, and guns. But no goofball jokes. This sketch is dead. Sorry."
Unsurprisingly they did it a third time, thinking they were being funny, but they were just pathetic. This time Rio ignored them; he didn't feel like wasting his time on guys like that.
As he removed his headphones and stowed them in his bag, a female voice came from his right. "I think they just didn't understand a word you said."
Rio turned to look at his new neighbor and was immediately charmed by her pretty smile and big blue eyes.
"Or maybe it hasn't reached their brains yet." The girl began to laugh, and Rio found the sound very melodious. He decided to introduce himself. "Rio."
"Beth."
Rio looked at the book on Elizabeth's table; he was sure it was her full name. He wasn't the talkative type, but he was interested in making conversation with her.
"Second year Chemistry."
"Yes. Impressed?"
"Definitely."
"Really?"
"Nah."
Beth let out a laugh and pointed at his T-shirt. "'It's...?"
Rio tugged lightly at his T-shirt. "Tupac? Best rapper of all time, released his first album '2Pacalypse Now' in 1991. He's the most famous rapper in the world, but unfortunately got shot on September 7, 1996, and died as a result of his injuries on September 13, 1996."
"Wow."
Rio grinned up to his ears, but the bell rang at that moment, interrupting them. "I guess we'll be seeing each other again."
Beth stood up and smiled at him. "Chances are."
Yeah, Rio was definitely under the spell. His first day had been a really nice one.

My process of creating a BJD for the first time
I sculpted my own BJD-inspired little doll for the first time! Including sewing his outfit, I worked on the project over the course of December til March.
He's based on my artistic fan-rendition of dr. Nitrus Brio from the Crash Bandicoot video game series, and I'm planning to make a few of his colleagues as well! 😊 Here's some reference pics for context, for those who don't know the character.
Read on if you want to see the process of his creation!
(Heads-up; Contains censored doll nudity and loose body parts and all that~)
He's only 19cm tall (which is uncommon for adult-type BJDs (they'd usually be 40-70 cm, that's 1/4 or 1/3 scale)) and his technical design is a little crude/simplified compared to the beautiful mechanics of the BJDs I used to own, but I'm really happy with how he came out. It was quite the magical experience, because I haven't sculpted much before, nor have I sewn on this level of detail.
I figured the smaller scale would make him more easy to handle and less intimidating for a first project, but it made it a little difficult to work with at times as well!
My very first attempt was fun but had a lot of issues, I decided to start over before painting. The (extremely cheap) clay had shrunk massively, he was nowhere near hollow enough, he was a disproportional mess xD
And since he needs to be to scale with his friends later on, I decided it would be a valuable prototype. UvU
So all that happened during my Christmas break! From then on, I continued working on him little bits at a time. Quite surprisingly I managed to stay engaged and dedicated XD
This time I got actual doll-grade paperclay, which made so much difference. Amazing stuff. It was again very satisfying to see his shape forming. And this time he made it to the paint stage!
After drying out properly, I coated him first to set the clay, then used acrylic paint to give him his base skintone all over. The first layer, applied with a brush, was a blotchy mess. :x
Then I thought of sponge-dabbing it on instead, which worked wonderfully! I only realized while doing it, that it reminded me of how I applied my own bodypaint with a sponge for a blue-skinned cosplay 😊 Must've subconsciously gotten the inspiration from there lol
After his base coat, I could no longer resist and strung him😂💖
I realized it might get messy later on if I'd refuse to unstring and restring him for further painting/blushing and coating. But I figured it'd be good enough and I was having too much fun having him in his strung form XDD <33
It turned out okay, even after spray coating him strung. ^^
Painted his face, cleaned the paint off his bolts, glued eyelashes on 💕
And finally, gave him bodyblush for a little more life to him, love it!
Then I spent many nights sewing his lab coat, undies, pants, gloves and boots! 😊😊😊
I now consider him finished, and ready for cool shoots! All of this really made me relive my love for BJDs and all the crafting around it. Looking forward to make him some friends, but for now it's kinda nice to have time for other projects again as well 😂

Y’all… okay. So like I’m fully aware that this is only cute to me, but looooook at my 10 year old’s drawing for my fic cover. I had to come up with a title real quick, so this is what we have for my role reversal Brio fic that’s been in drafts since July. Look at the little Brio park bench in the corner there. He has no frame of reference for the source material nor my writing. He just made me a “big city skyline.” The bench is just a coincidence. (Those blobs are flying cars, apparently. It’s fine. It still works. So a few cars can fly. So what. It’s an AU.)
I have 9 chapters mostly done. And the more I write, the more there is to write. The plot never ends. There’s just so much to say and idk how to temper it and idk how to get it to all the places I want it to go. Maybe will post the first bit on Friday. Get a no-going-back moment going to increase motivation.

🍒🌳 WIP Wednesday 🌳🍒
“Well, shit,” Rio beams. “That was easy.”
“I didn’t mean that.”
“Sure.”
“I—just—shut up.” Beth shakes her head, makes a half-hearted attempt to wave it off, to claw back some of her control, but Rio’s eyes roam her face, deep in thought as he wets his lips slowly and any composure she was clinging to melts away.
“You always do this,” he accuses. That edge of irritation creeping back in as he glances down at her cleavage, the extra inches she exposed by undoing that button in front of him earlier.
“Do what?”
“Get all pissed at me when I win.”
“Well if you weren’t so arrogant about it—” Beth bites out. Because he really did tick her off with his gloating.
“Right okay,” Rio nods, mocking her. Jutting his bottom lip out like she’s one to talk.
“And I am not watching you.”
“You know what you’re doin’, Elizabeth.” Rio backs away when he says that, paces a little in the cramped space of the bathroom like a caged animal. Eyes wide and accusatory as he looks pointedly at her dress, her neck, her messily tied up hair and she really has no idea what he’s talking about.
“I’m not doing anything to you!” Beth scowls, stamping her foot in frustration.
“You drive me fuckin’ crazy, is what you do.”
Beth lifts her chin, holds his gaze defiantly. “Well then maybe you should go back out to Vanessa since I annoy you so much.” She tries to sound detached, but her voice is thick. Her chest heaving a little.
Rio’s jaw rocks to the side as he stares at her. Breathing as uneven as hers. “I’ll do that,” he says.
“Fine.”
“Good.”
“Great.”
He doesn’t move to go. Neither of them do. And the longer they stare at each other the quicker her pulse gets. Her solid grip on the counter the only thing keeping her grounded.
For a split second Rio makes a tiny move to turn, to leave, before he springs back to face her, still all fired up. “This is the same exact shit you pulled with that beer pong game by the way.”
Beth just laughs at how bizarre he’s being as Rio steps back close. So close. Almost chest to chest, towering over her. “You need to get over it.”
“How ‘bout you quit playing dirty wit’ me,” he purrs. Eyes heavy-lidded.
“I wasn’t cheating,” she says quietly.
Rio searches her face for a long, unbearably charged moment, the muscle in his jaw flexing before his fingers lift to touch her neck. He’s touching her. For the first time in weeks. And she’s so caught up in that feeling, the release of it, the heat flooding in a blush across her bare chest as his knuckles slide over her collarbone that she doesn’t realise what he’s doing until—
“Then what’s this?”
She hadn’t noticed at all, had completely forgotten she still had it on, but she’s wearing his chain.
And oh god, the pendant must have slipped out of her neckline in front of him when she leant over the pool table.

While thinking about his face-up, I thought of getting him eyelashes, but then it occured to me that I had some dolls lying around that I thrifted for stealing their pretty clothes- And I thought maybe I can salvage some eyelashes off of them if they have any! And yep, one had eyelashes, brown ones even <3 💯
Might also experiment with eyebrow hair, but I think I'll have to order some mohair or faux fur to get any desirable effect.
ANYWAY-
Then I thought perhaps one of these ladies has some nice underwear Nitsy can borrow temporarily~ And omg, LOOK 😭😭💕💖💕💖💕✨️💖🎀💖🎀🎀💕✨️

Well, this was supposed to be a quick and cute little prompt-fill to be posted during GGAW2022, but I've been having so much fun with it, it's taken a little bit longer than I anticipated! So, to belatedly celebrate favorite dynamic, have this little sneak peek into the newest Snapshots fic, where @peachraindrops prompted "Beth and Rio passing notes" and was inspired by my discovery of an old high school binder filled with a fake-moving-out financial planning roommates project.
Elizabeth finishes writing with some exaggerated flourish of her pencil and Rio hears a small, triumphant hmph bubble up out of her throat.
Turning his head just enough to take in Elizabeth’s blouse—the frilly blush one covered in roughly one billion tiny magenta daisies (the one Rio accidentally ripped a button off of last month and drove to the stupid craft store for, scouring for the exact right color of thread while Elizabeth waited in the car with a scowl that she thought made her look like she meant business, but which he always wanted to kiss right off of her)—Rio wonders where she got the impression that he didn’t like pink or floral.
Yeah, he didn’t want it on a lampshade, and he’d be damned before wrapping himself in a fluffy pink towel, but it had its place (stretched tightly over that white lace bra he knows she’s wearing, for one).
She got that this was a fake apartment, right? A fake apartment for a dumb “Moving Out” financial planning project that he’d already calculated she only needed to earn a D+ on to keep her perfect grade point average?
(You’d think after the whole math tutoring thing, she’d trust his calculations.)
He would’ve worked on the assignment with her after school if she’d really wanted him to, but c’mon. When it was their real apartment, he’d gladly fight her tooth and nail over the color of some bath mats or whatever, but until then? Why should he give a shit if she cut out some ugly picture of a rug and pasted it on some collage labeled “Our Apartment”?

It's from brioficweek2024 day 5 (Wearing each others clothes or accessories)
Beth bit the inside of her cheek to keep from giggling at her discovery. She didn't know if she should come forward now, or turn around, let him think she hadn't seen anything, and tease him later.
But her stomach was screaming, and she found it adorable that he was trying to hide it. She wanted to laugh at him gently, right away. And afterwards, because she thought he looked so unfairly sexy, extended their pose for a much more intimate and terribly less boring moment than their current work, on the desk.

So, I've mentioned this one recently -- I'd really love to see a Bridgerton au with Beth/Rio in similar roles as Kate/Anthony. I think that the set up is absolutely perfect for them and it's so much fun to imagine them in that enemies to lovers scenario. Especially in that particular time setting, with the clothing and the dancing and the gossipy scandals. Just thinking about all the longing looks and the almost touches and the barely contained horniness makes me want to die.

TCOL CHARACTER TOURNAMENT
inspired and encouraged to do this by @calicohyde i’m finally going to forcibly introduce y’all to the GIANT cast of my wip the chronicles of lathsbury by pitting them head to head for your viewing pleasure.
HOWEVER—this is not going to be a typical bracket, where i tell you the character’s names, ages, sexualities and summarize them. NO, i will be strictly operating on VIBES. i have painstakingly assigned each character a number and randomized the numbers against each other to really be as fair as i can possibly make it.
(as an aside this does not include any historical characters or gods; strictly those involved in the main plot of book one)
AT THE END OF EACH ROUND I WILL REVEAL THE LOSING CHARACTER’S BASIC INFORMATION (name, age, appearance, etc) AND FUN FACTS ABOUT THEM. MAYHAPS EVEN A PICREW OR ART IDK.
so without further ado: here are the brackets. there’s 40 (major) characters total!
ROUNDS 1 & 2: consist of a 2nd person, bird’s eye view of their entire narrative arc and motivations. they’re small paragraphs, so no worries lmao. technically it’s “all” round one but from how the bracket is set up and the fact that i have 40 characters to get through, i’m gonna do the first set of 10 then the second set of 10 on different days.
ROUND 3: will be moodboards of 4 images that represent them in some way.
ROUND 4 (QUARTER-FINALS): will be a singular song that represents this character (to me)
ROUND 5 (SEMI-FINALS): 3 random, unrelated facts will be given about the characters ranging from serious to funny
ROUND 6 (FINALS): i will choose 3 adjectives that they use to describe themselves, 3 adjectives others use to describe them, and 3 adjectives EYE use to describe them. and then, a winner will be crowned.
this is gonna happen over the course of several days and i’m gonna start setting up and probably have the first 10 rounds up tomorrow at the latest! thanks again jack for inspiring this Behemoth i’m Very Curious to see who comes out on top 👀

WIP Title Game
Here it is… everything that’s made it past a mere wisp of an inkling. There are many others that are basically just a thought, and many, many other outtake docs that are waiting to be mined.
Some of these are fresh ideas. Some are extensions of stories that have already been posted (the numbers indicate the order the originals were posted in), or meatier outtakes from published fics that will one day find new life on their own.
I typically precede each title with some version of “WIP Brio” to help them stand out visually from the stuff that’s already been completed. Not really sure why I include “Brio” in there though. I only write them, so adding the ship is probably a bit unnecessary. 😂
Finally, it cannot be stressed enough that these are working titles and most, if not all, will change several times before they see the light of day.
