Brio hug scene where Rio is trying to comfort an upset Beth

Scene where either Beth or Rio is injured but they can’t go to the hospital so the other attempts to fix the injury

Beth using Rio’s name to his face

(Thank goodness you have more or less versions of these in rough night to keep us fed lol)

Personally I would’ve liked to see the injury one because it would force some vulnerability between them that neither would show normally lol

Ok so going through one by one…

I would say a hug is out for me in canon. At least as much as we got of canon. They weren’t really a huggy kind of couple. Their touches were very targeted and very specific. A hug is something else. Beth’s hugs were almost disingenuous even with people she loved. She’s uncomfortable with touch and her hugs were always guarded. And I didn’t want to have that discomfort between Brio. Their intimate touches were more subtle and always with him being mindful of her physical boundaries. His “I’m gonna teach you” moment was a “huggy” moment. It had that comforting feeling, that intimacy of a hug to it, while also giving Beth the space to keep her discomfort with physical touch. I really like that moment because it respected their boundaries and offered meaningful comfort at a level Beth could hear and understand.

I do love the fixing each other’s wounds trope. This is my very close second. It’s so symbolic of their atonement for the wounds they’ve inflicted on each other. I agree with you, that kind of vulnerability would have been healing for them and connected them further. Plus the ample opportunity to explore each other’s bodies and remember how intimately familiar they are with each other. A chance to remember touching intimately in a very different way and in a very different setting. There’s something so romantic to that nostalgia for them. That acknowledgment of how they each have changed and yet are so familiar. Ugh! I wanna read some injury fics now. 🥹

But I think I actually would have very much liked to see Beth use Rio’s name to his face. I think had she said his name with that little crack in her voice she gets when she’s very emotional, he would have dropped down on one knee and proposed right on the spot. That much vulnerability from her, her finally humanizing him right to his face, he could not have resisted it. He loooooves rescuing her. And her saying his name in a vulnerable way would have cemented him to her permanently. It would have been her choosing him. At least in his perception, her using that much honesty in her communication with him would have meant the world. He would have taken it as her undying pledge of her love and loyalty. (It’s kinda what I decided to do in Rough Night. She uses his name when she’s being honest and vulnerable, and he calls her baby when he’s doing the same.)

Or actually, you know what I was really waiting for and never got? Her touching him. Any kind of touch initiated by her would have broken through so many barriers. Because she isn’t a touchy person, her making that move would have meant a lot. He knows she doesn’t do touch. It would have stopped him in his tracks. Her touch is so weighted with meaning whenever she offers it to him. So a platonic touch of any kind would have communicated everything unsaid between them.

The lack of brio fics at the strip club saddens me.. i want all the feels surrounding being in a strip club. I want beth to maybe feel a little self conscious, maybe even jealous and possessive seeing all of these hot, young, thin dancers around rio. I want rio to get hit on by the dancers and then reject them. I want everyone to be watching a performance except for rio who only has eyes for beth. I want jokes about beth and rio giving eachother a lap dance!!! Goddammit give me all the tropes and all the feels!! I need it!!

Haha, for the last 🥃drink drink I'm actually not completely sure whether it was Beth or rio (they might have been grumpily laying claim to the same drink, snatching it back and forth 😂) but um.... Well the true answer to this question may depend on definitional criteria 😉😉😉💦

Last Line Game

I was tagged by @sothischickshe (thanks love 💕) to post the last line of the most recent fic I worked on.

I thought I'd give the fake dating trope a try, so here's a few lines from a fun lil brio season one canon divergent fic I've been messing with:

“Our friend Agent Turner just sat down at the bar.”   “Your friend.” Beth corrects absentmindedly, chin canting down as her head tilts off to the side, automatically turning toward the bar behind her to look. Rio's fingers stop her movements, gentle but firm at her chin as he redirects her attention back to him.

About you last head-canon post, can we know anything more about Nina’s mom? because I have so many questions. What was she like? Was she aware that Max was gay? Or that the brothers pulled a switch around in the bedroom? Did she love Nina/the idea of being a mom?What was her relationship like with Dr Cortex, her husband Max and her in laws? How did she die? I’m interested dang it! 😅

I wasn't going to talk about Nina's mom, but since you're so interested... well, why not? To be honest, what I came up with for Nina's mother is still a work in progress, but here's what I have:

Nina's mother was named Nastia, and when she was a child, she was actually a student at Madame Amberly's Academy of Evil, just like Cortex. In fact... Nastia was one of Cortex's bullies. She wasn't really evil, but a good person who had to PRETEND to be evil in order to survive Madame Amberly's school. I can't go into their relationship back then since I'm still working out the details, but they did end up liking each other even back then.

Then, after the two of them graduated from the Academy, they parted ways, and didn't see each other again until they became adults. By then, Nastia had already married Max. She was aware Max was gay, and had married him to get Sharon off his back. They weren't in love at all, but they were very close friends... mainly because Max reminded Nastia of Neo in so many ways, and Nastia had NO idea Neo Cortex was Max's younger brother.

Basically, Cortex didn't know Nastia was the SAME Nastia from his childhood until he arrived at Max's home. He was initially rather upset with her for marrying his brother, and almost left immediately. Max and Nastia managed to convince him to stay, however, and after Cortex had spent about a week getting to know Nastia again, he had fallen in love with her all over again.

As a kid, Nastia was a good person and even better actress who was very good at pretending to be a sadistic bully. As an adult, she no longer has to fool anyone, as she cut ties with her family who wanted her to be evil. She was kind, sweet, empathetic, and loved animals... in many ways, very opposite of what Cortex was. Yet at the same time, her sweet nature was what drew Cortex to her. Basically, she was a source of human warmth Cortex had never experienced before; he was a moth to her flame.

After Nina was born and Max had divorced Nastia, Nastia and Cortex were planning to marry each other. Nastia had even packed her bags to move into Cortex Castle. Unfortunately, she died before that could happen. What happened exactly, sadly, I haven't worked that part out yet either. Originally, I was going to have her die of illness, but that trope is SO old and tired! I also thought that Cortex accidentally caused her death in a freak accident, but Cortex has suffered so much already that I'm afraid to torture him like that!

However it happened, Nastia died, leaving Cortex to head back to Cortex Castle with Nina, where N. Brio was waiting for them. Nina was raised in the castle for the next five years, before she was dropped off at Evil Academy for her private education. Before she got her bionic metal hands, she was turning out just as kind, sweet, and loving as her mother. After she got the hands, she became an impish little brat who was always up to some form of mischief.

Nina has no idea that Cortex is her biological parent, as Cortex is trying to keep that a secret from Sharon. Max still pretends to be Nina's dad, to the point where he occasionally visits with her, spoils her with gifts, and affectionately calls her "pumpkin" as a loving nickname. Nina feels neglected by Max, and Cortex isn't the nicest guy either, so... she may have daddy issues underneath that sassy exterior. Poor kid.

EDIT: AHHHH I FORGOT TO ANSWER WHAT NASTIA'S RELATIONSHIPS WERE LIKE. Okay, so she was very close friends with Max, but she didn't love him romantically. Like... they were besties at best. As for her in-laws, she really doesn't like any of them, and they don't like her much either for being such a softie, but at least they're not as evil as most of the people she grew up with, so it's nothing she couldn't handle.

OCs for the Phantom Moth AU

Hey guys. Trying to get this out of my head before it disappears, but I finally got an idea for some of my OCs for the Mario + Rabbids AU I came up with, The Phantom Moth. It took some research and reading great fics from mutuals to get something going. A few musical terms here and there as well!Without further ado, here are the OCs that will appear in my AU Fics:

Brio Harper (They/Them)

The Main Character and Protagonist for the AU! I'm still undecided whether or not to keep them or experiment with reader fic. I had never written the latter before. Well, maybe once a few years ago. But I'll figure it out. Brio is a gender-neutral musical name meaning vitality. Brio is a genderfluid nonbinary human who loves entertaining and creating things as well as living life and making new friends. They love several types of music and the supernatural/monsters. Due to their small rise in popularity, a childhood bully has placed a monster curse on them. The main focus in the AU is Brio coming to terms with their identity and what happens when the curse affects them in more ways than one.

Otieno the Rabbid (He/Him)

A black and white Rabbid who acts like the MC's bodyguard, agent, and advisor. He is loosely based on my past pet rabbit Marceline. To describe him, if he were in the Mario and Rabbids canon, he'd be similar to Edge but a little more energetic. Maybe not a Spark Hunter, but a Spark Defender? In this AU, Otieno is a rebel/vigilante type who's somewhat retired and somehow became friends with MC/Brio to the point that he helps them out however he can whether it would entail being a spokesperson or escorting someone out if they were making MC/Brio uncomfortable. Otieno left behind his shadows, but the shadows are on the hunt for revenge.

Chanson the Peek-A-Boo (He/Him)

Phantom's Right-Hand Ghost! Before being Phantom, Thomas Phan was a normal Rabbid outcast who would sometimes hang out in the lonely parts of the city. Near a graveyard/sewers, Thomas met two supernatural beings who had forgotten their names. One of them was a Peek-A-Boo who Thomas took a liking to because he could lure in anyone and enjoys talking about literature and the arts. He and the eccentric being love hanging out with Thomas. One night, something happens, and the two see Thomas in a ditch, wounded with a large bat and a phonograph. They both try to help but to no avail. They then witness Thomas's death and his transformation into Phantom. Still feeling enraged and confused at what happened to him, the Phantom unconsciously makes his only friends grow as well. After the breakdown, the Phantom decides to make a new name for himself and employ his friends into being his staff, also naming them. Chanson (French for Song) is the second in command and Phantom's advisor. He is the one who helps organizes the contest for Phantom to get a partner. Strict and Serious but understanding. He is used to Phantom's antics and has similar but minor siren powers like Phantom.

Misfix the Medician (They/Them)

The Healer of Phantom's staff. They along with Chanson are friends of Phantom when he was Thomas Phan. Unlike the others, Misfix gave a name for themself. It's a mixture of "misfit" and "fix". They are a nonbinary Medician who is in charge of healing anyone despite their eccentric and excited personality akin to the mad scientist trope. They are the wild card, but the best at what they do. In the main fic, they examine MC/Brio after the contest. They have three siblings who stay with them and are also employed by Phantom. Misfix is the second oldest. Along with Chanson, Misfix is the other giant of the staff who loves their size.

Deciso the Spellraiser (She/They)

The supposed holder of the brain cell for the staff besides Chanson. She is unrelated to the Spectral Siblings but is friends with Adagio. Deciso (Musical term meaning firm) is a living mage who can float, cast spells, and summon anything. She is considered a recent hire when one night she visits Adagio and discovers that he and his siblings are part of a comeback plot for some giant monster ghost bat. She joins the staff mainly to help the siblings out, but to also not make Phantom upset/eat her. Deciso acts like a mediator and deals with the relations between the upper/daily world and the dark underworld they live in. Out of the staff, Deciso is the only one who keeps her regular size, so she gets carried around a lot. Despite her initial worries, Phantom does not want to mess around with her. Mostly no-nonsense, but she does know how to let loose once in a while.

Glissando the Oozer (He/Him)

The Sniper of Phantom's staff. Misfix's younger brother. He is also the apothecary/poison master of the staff, able to detect poisons and create potions along with Deciso's help. Whenever there is an enemy monster that Phantom cannot handle or they need to kidnap someone, Glissando (musical term meaning to slide) is on the job to poison the monster or make elixirs with side effects. He is sly and sneaky. A chill kind of guy. He, Libero, and Adagio are size shifters curtesy of the Phantom.

Libero the Ghostly Walker (He/They)

An Extra Assistant to Phantom. The youngest of the siblings. Unlike his siblings, Libero (musical term meaning free) is a pure ghost who wears chains. While he and the rest of the staff liked to sing, he was the one who sang beautifully/the most. While Phantom's power grew back in the early stages of his transformation, there was an incident that made Phantom weak and damaged his phonograph. Libero comes to help but during this vulnerable time, he gets absorbed into Phantom. With the help of his family, he does get back out, but without a voice. His voice was unconsciously taken by Phantom which was used to repair him. Although Libero was saddened, he would gladly sacrifice his voice for an amazing ghost such as Phantom. Since he does not have any distinctive powers like his siblings, Libero acts as moral support and helps in the background whenever he can. He is mute and he uses sign language and writing to get his thoughts across. He can hum, but it would mostly sound like a ghostly moan with no distinct voice to it. Very curious, kind, and shy. Phantom (and eventually MC/Brio) would be the only ones who could hear him speak in their minds. Phantom can use Libero's voice in addition to all the others he absorbed in his voicebank to his advantage. Libero's voice is of a higher/lighter register.

Adagio the Depleter (He/Him)

The assassin of Phantom's staff and the Eldest of the Spectral Siblings. He is the typical brooding big brother type who doesn't want to deal with anyone and would protect his younger siblings with his life or afterlife as it were. He initially went against working with Phantom, saying that Misfix should get out of the situation by themself but after much convincing (ie. Hypnotism/Persuasion and threats), he reluctantly joined the staff. Adagio (musical term meaning in slow tempo) works along with Glissando in dealing with enemies of Phantom's plot. He knows how to steal the life force of his victims and has given pointers to Phantom on the matter. He along with Chanson acts like the foil to Otieno; bodyguards who would do whatever it takes to protect their charges.

What's a brio au concept that you wish someone would write? Also what is a trope that you wish you would see more in fics in general?

Since seeing this, that's really what I want, anon, haha.

I don't know if I have specific concepts that I want to see, but I definitely wish there were more period AUs for Beth and Rio. I think their dynamic lends so well to it, as in many ways their dynamic is most interesting, at least to me, because of the way it tangles up with gender and race and how that informs the way they both move through the world.

Dropping them into different time periods I think creates such fun opportunities to explore those themes, plus you have the added charge of breaking considered social etiquette, which is something I especially have fun with in my pirate au, haha.

But yeah, I'd love to see a Golden Age Hollywood AU, or a noir AU, or a post-WWII America AU (I toyed with one for ages with Beth as a telephone operator in a loveless marriage and Rio trying to rebuild his life after the war). There's so many stories to tell!

Trope-wise - - I pretty much like everything if it's done well, haha, but I always want more slow burn and huddling for warmth. How about you?

least fav: coffee shop au. like, to each their own but on a personal level i've just read so many that it's completely done for me lol.

as far as writing goes, i love to read long 100k+ fics that are on point in the perfect trope and most important i don't have to write 😂
