Last reblog is very similar to an AU idea I’ve had myself, but haven’t posted about outside of Discord, so here it is:

Flower Mark / Hanarushi AU

(from Hana = flower and Shirushi = mark, symbol, seal, stamp)

An alternative magic flower disease where when someone is in love with you, a flower-shaped mark appears on your body somewhere. The type/color of flower represents the person in some way, so it often turns into a guessing game of who's flower it is and therefore, who likes you

The color, bloom and size of the marks can vary based on the intensity of feelings. Ex: small, faint flower marks are from people with small, passing crushes, or who only love someone on a shallow, surface level

Budding feelings could result in literal flower bud marks

The reciprocation of feelings in a happy relationship creates bright, full-bloom flower marks (Another idea was couples’ flowers becoming crossbreeds)

Breaking up and having feelings fade makes a wilted flower that slowly disappears

A tragic, unresolved separation, like the death of a partner, creates a wilted flower that never fades

The location and design of a mark on the body can vary and can reflect the person’s feelings as well.

This can range from pretty aesthetics, like flowers across the eyelids or vines stretching across the chest, to hilariously awkward stuff like “who put a flower on my ass cheek”

Considering how society evolves around this phenomenon is also interesting- obviously the florist industry would be extremely successful as people seek out and buy their respective flowers for various occasions

If crossbreeds are a thing, that becomes profitable as well

Rich families could treat marks as status symbols, and so encourage their children/relatives to prefer fancier flowers in order to make fancier marks

That’s all I got for now after discussion with friends.

Relating this to FMA, as I usually do:

Roy has a lot of marks from being so popular with women, but they’re all of the small, faint variety because the feelings are only for his suave bachelor persona - they don’t love him for who he truly is. If someone did, it’d result in a bright, blooming mark and would surprise him.

Someone like Havoc rarely gets marks at all, and even then they tend to be shallow or never last long, as he tries and fails repeatedly to get a girlfriend. A ‘true love’ mark for him would be even more surprising.

Relating this to usual shipping shenanigans, there’s plenty of unrequited angst stuff

Like Hughes having a mark from Roy and being oblivious about it, sharing marks with Gracia and pursuing a relationship with her while Roy suffers, or sharing marks with Roy but inevitably, his wilted flower never fades from Roy’s skin after his death.

Havoc finally having a true love mark, getting very excited and trying to figure out which girl he knows that likes him so much, oblivious, as always, to the feelings of the one person who knows him and would love him faithfully if given the chance - his best friend Breda.
