I've stumbled on a fic with one of the funniest depictions of modern!Lancelot I've ever read but the main pairing would squick out 99.9% of the fandom so I can't even rec it

#he's very much a side character I just found him delightful #he's a bohemian frenchman #he has that “gay or european?” aura about him #he's merlin's housemate #he cooks for him #he calls him things like “mon cher” and helps him look after his son #merlin tells him “you are going to make someone a great wife one day”#they meet gwen and she immediately thinks lancelot and merlin are a couple #lancelot is completely oblivious. he's just being french.#*bangs fist on table* more french modern lancelot!!#MAKE HIM FRENCH #he is french. in his soul.#*

major spoiler for crimson peak below but the reason i love this movie so very very much is because

the ghosts are on edith's side.

every ghost in the movie is trying their best to be helpful in love and sympathy for all edith is going through, and i think that's beautiful. it's as if to say, "the supernatural world is safe. it's your fellow human beings you need to watch out for," which feels very on-brand for guillermo in general.

"I do like the idea of him living abroad for some time" YES! A part of me hopes that his partner is from another country or something (I personally think it'd be cool if they came from somewhere in Asia or Africa or South America, but knowing TSC she'd at most be from the US and that's what would take Clary's ancestors to America.) And that he moves there with them for a few years, has new experiences, and meets more people. The world is much bigger than what I'm sure he'd call "stuffy old London," and he should experience it to the fullest! Some space would be good, I think, and eventually he'd come back with many'a grand tale.

EXACTLY! like i love tsc but I do wish that the stories would stop being consistently set in famous Western cities. Shadowhunters are global and yes we have great POC representation--but I want to see Tehran. I want to see a group of Shadowhunters from where Magnus is from in Indonesia. Ari's birth community. Sona's family and Alastair and Cordelia's cousins! Heck, even more of Madrid and what made father and son both go there for their travel year. Absolutely loved getting to know the gang in Shanghai. And I think Matthew would be curious to learn about other cultures, those especially that are clearly marginalised in the Clave (which imo Charlotte would be aware of and yet despite her position, be able to do little about, and Matthew would be super weird and uncomfortable about it for a while but figure it out in the end, and James would be fascinated, relate to it from the perspective of his demon blood, and try to do better by his in-laws). (I'd love to see James and Cordelia living in Tehran and raising their kids there, heck, even bringing Lucie and Jesse along knowing them.)

Also, who says Matthew has to come back and settle? He's the son of the guy who invented Portals! He could jolly well come and go as he pleases, and be involved in communities in a few of his favourite places. to me that would be really honouring of Henry as well as a great expression of living out a lot of the things he admires about Magnus. And his kids would get the good part of Cordelia's childhood without the bad you know?
