you meet isagi after he talks to his coach and he (sort of) asks you out
you waited for isagi outside of the coach’s office. the two of you had been talking and he’d eventually gone into the room, clearly nervous.
once he came out though, you were disappointed. his face was red and his eyes downcast.
he instantly took notice of you and turned to face you. “oh, hi! you’re still waiting?” he continued speaking without allowing you to explain that he wasn’t a bother. “was i holding you up? i’m so sorry!” he scratched the back of his neck and moved to leave.
confused, you spoke up before he could leave. “i was just waiting for you, not him. sorry.” you laughed, and grinned at the endearing way his eyes widened and a more genuine smile took onto his own face.
“oh.” he spoke quietly as you walked up next to him. “are you going to the club room?” you asked, “the rest of the team is there too.”
you were right, he was planning on going there. he had just asked if he could score more goals, and his coach had managed to explain to him that football truly was a team sport. his own selfish football would be unlikely to help them win.
but, he supposed he could be selfish in at least one way. he knew his team had nothing planned that night anyways. “thanks, but i got my gear already.” he took a deep breath, which you hopefully were unable to hear. “would you want to go somewhere with me?” he paused to think. “the city park?”
he had been planning on going to the park to practice his shooting—his coach rarely allowed them to do so. but, if he wasn’t going to be shooting anyways then there was no point.
and, it appeared that the embarrassment from his coach’s words had given him the adrenaline needed to thoughtlessly speak to you—his friend and longtime crush.
upon realizing the implications of his words, your face took upon a bright smile, as his still-red face managed to flush once again. “yeah, i would!”
his face softened even more as he beamed in a perfect mix of embarrassment and happiness. he really did like people who smiled like you did, which in turn, made him smile. if you were to truly think about it, a lot would make sense.
isagi tended to believe that usually, when one is on a date, they should meet up with the other person at the intended location, separately.
but, that didn’t mean that isagi would take back saying he’d walk you home. as there was no use in splitting up for the sake of meeting up at the park, now he was happy to quickly explain that you could walk together—which you of course accepted.

Me: I respect canon events. I understand that my shipper-tinted glasses might make these two characters look like they have feelings for each others.
The literal f**king Light Novel, the breakup scene: Feeling a sense of loss like his purpose of living has been crushed, Reo opened his mouth.

I went from crying over their breakup to laughing so hard when this iconic scene came
Also, I would like to point out that when Isagi said his‘You can’t do anything without Reo.’ speech, For a moment,Nagi’s face distorted into something that look like frustration.
But according to my Dictionary app, this can also be translated to
‘Nagi’s face distorted into something that looked like Regret.’

This scene with the fancy Hakuho girls discussing how Nagi is handsome and good at studies but way too weird, all while he's blissfully unaware and asleep, lives rent free in my head.
Some thoughts on the drawing:
I like how the perspective is from outside the window. It makes you feel as if you were walking by the classroom and just happened to catch this scene. In general any image where someone (whether character or audience) is outside looking in or inside looking out, immediately becomes more immersive (for me at least).
I also like how the bars dividing the window panes are faded out to allow us to see everyone's faces clearly while also acting as leading lines drawing our eyes to the characters depicted. Nagi's face especially is positioned right at the lower intersection, thereby using the in-world architecture to track our eyes to him even though he's completely passive in the frame and not even awake.
All in all very cool. ✨
(I wish I was normal about manga art that way I'd just be able to fangirl and move on instead of also thinking about every line and stroke of the pen that went into creating a certain panel. But oh well, they found me weird in school too.)

i’m sorry but the fact that rin is canonically flunks most of his class except for english (cause he be on that sigma soccer grindset babyyy) has been lingering in my mind for like a week or so oh my god
like imagine him not caring enough about those classes (why care about your geometry grade when you’re gonna be the best striker anyway or whatever’s going on in his head) until one of his teachers nags him about improving his grades, even suggesting a tutor. at first he’s way too prideful to seek help from a tutor but the teacher’s incessant nagging made him give in and find a tutor who’s happens to be another student in his school, most likely an upperclassman.
while he’s waiting for you to show up clearly running a few minutes late, he mumbles to himself about how unnecessary and “lukewarm” this tutoring shit is.
when you finally showed up and gave your quick apologies for your tardiness, you took one look at rin’s impatient/borderline judgmental face and decided it was best to cut out the fluffy introductions and dive straight into it.
he’s pretty reluctant about telling you what exactly he’s having trouble with in class since being here already bruises his ego enough. not to mention, he’s very doubtful about your skills as a tutor (definitely isn’t personal ofc, he just be like that). you, of course, prove him wrong and also get him to share what he’s struggling with so you can actually help. then surprise! surprise! he already shows a lot of improvement by the end of the session.
the way you get him to open up about his academic struggles with ease kinda freaks him out but he goes along with it
there was just something about your patient yet stern way of teaching that made rin drawn into that made him focus up and actually work. clearly a step up from his shitty lukewarm teachers. after that session, rin soon found himself booking another one… then another… and another after that… ok look you just have an efficient way of teaching that does not cut into his precious soccer time. it’s not because of any other reason, he swears!
i imagine when he lowers his walls and slowly starts falling in love, he becomes a huge mess internally. can you blame him though? he’s never done this before. he’s never felt this before. oh my god. what do people even do when they’re in love?? what the hell even is love??? someone please answer him before he starts spiraling!!!
while these questions run around in his head, he watches as you explain the assignment he has to do for one of his classes, too engrossed in teaching to notice the redness on his neutral face
eventually he accepts his feelings for you but he’s still very lost on what to do now. after all, he has only had people fawn over him and he has never returned those feelings before. thus he has no idea what to do when he’s actually interested in someone and gets stuck for an indefinite amount of time.
oh rin itoshi. the man who can literally psychoanalyze the opposing team in 0.005 seconds and knows when to perfectly strike also has absolutely no clue on when and how to ask someone out.
so now the ball is in your court if you reciprocate his feelings and want to become more than just mere tutor and student

Isagi's posture here in the light novel explains a lot about what Isagi was before he went to Blue Lock.
He just stands still with nothing going on with him unlike the others. Such as Nagi holding his phone or Bachira who is holding a football with a carefree pose.
Thanks to Ichinan soccer club, all he does is blend in with the crowd (aka they turn him into a background character) and never stand out even though in reality he wants to do something for himself such as scoring a goal. But because of the ichinan philosophy, they never let Isagi grow and stand out amongst the team. Causing him to be seen as a forward that nobody acknowledges.
Which is the whole reason on why Blue Lock is important to Isagi. His life turns 180° ever since. He is the center of attention and many people acknowledge him being astounding. His goal in vs U20 arc also made him more well known to Japan. Far different from his time in Ichinan Soccer club.
Edit:
It is also needed to be mention that Isagi is timid. It's his main trait so even when he is well known to be good at soccer when he was in primary and middle school he still gets nervous when someone approaches him.
Isagi voicing out his opinions would be hard for him. So when the coach denies what Isagi wants he accepts it and doesn't even tried to fight back. Then he believes what the coach says is true instead.
