Hi! I've been a fan of your art for a really long time now and I remember when you switched from Maya to Blender. You've created amazing work in both, so I'm wondering how Blender has been for you compared to Maya?

harsh at first, like "why is this button here, and this one here, etc", but in the end sooooo much better. everything is held in a well designed program, no need to download an extra program for texturing, rendering, etc. You can do modeling and rigging at the same time, it's amazing! Also the community is active and ready to answer any of your questions (especially if you come from maya, i've often been on the blenderheld reddit asking "how do u do x in blender" and in 30m you have an answer.

The downside is that it's not as powerfull, and when it freezes and shutsdown you have no idea why. Also it's fur looks amazing but you can't use it on cloth for some reason?

And this is very personal to my art, but i knew Maya of by heart, therefor i knew how to make it bug and create glitchy art - i have yet to discover that part in blender (but it's probably possible)

I'm in the french animation industry and blender is slowly creeping in (it's free!) but i don't think it can yet replace maya in the cgi industry, like i doubt you can animate 500 orcs running down a mountain. but... it's getting there :>

I hate to write some random rant, but I really wish players would start boycotting The Sims 4.

Each new patch/DLC brings more and more glitches and bugs which developers refuse to fix or accidentally(?) create more bugs to fix some. Like for example right now there is a missing moodlets bug that corrupts some saves and because of this these must be deleted.

DLCs (mainly kits) are bland, almost empty, poor quality and expensive junk while modders create huge CC packs and mods that are high quality and most importantly free and also they fix the bugs that EA made.

Still, I feel sorry for console players who don't have the option to fix/improve the game unlike PC players and it makes the game unplayable due to broken patches.

Then players are reporting to EA who gives empty promises that they will fix it and later next DLC drop and it's same crap. It goes on and on in a never-stopping cycle.

And what's the worst, what annoys me the most? That some players want more content into game and EA wants TS4 to continue on even after Project Rene (The Sims 5) is released. It's a huge red flag since what a horrible state the game is in right now.

If you have TS4 as your comfort game and it helps improve your mood, please try to play either previous The Sims games like The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 or a completely different game. The possibilities are endless.

I'm saying this (even I'm just screaming into void) bcs I just don't understand when everyone says EA is one of the worst AAA video game companies, people still buy their games and DLCs which are unfinished and buggy.

I absolutely hate it when AroAce characters get sexualized. This is coming from an AroAce person. It feels as if people are erasing representation of the AroAce community. The characters oftentimes can't tell you if they're okay with sexualization and I find that even if the creators say that the characters dislike/hate sexualization it's still happening within the community. I understand that people are attracted to a character but that doesn't mean that character is attracted or wants anything to do with you or the other characters in that way.

There are some exceptions like one of my friend's characters, Riptide(@xxthunderthedragonxx if you go to his blog to talk about NSFW i will have your head). Riptide is an ace character, he is on the ace spectrum. But he's been described as not caring about sexual comments and in fact finds them entertaining. That doesn't mean he'll fuck you, that just means he's having fun. I am also like this, but only with my friends/people I get along with that are in my age range(i do not appreciate it from the people i don't know at all or barely know and I am a minor)

Fans headcanonning about an AroAce character liking sexual comments despite having barely any confirmation about it or having the creators deny it feels like erasure of fact for pleasure. It's dirty, and if you aren't sure if a character won't mind it then don't. Just don't.

Do you have any tips or good tutorial links for getting started using the hair tools in Blender? They seem intimidating, but your models look fantastic

sorry I uuuh don't watch tutorials (evil) I just fucked around for years until it suddenly clicked. So here's a few things, not sure if they'll be useful or not

also blenders particle system fur isn't being worked on anymore and is getting glitchier by the update so maybe look into geometry node fur (I haven't) (evil) also everything under the cut is assuming you know absolutely nothing about hair

this is based on blender 3.5 btw

create a particle system, put it to your desired length (short fur is usually longer than you expect) then set the number to 0, then you can use the add tool to get a symmetrical groom

the strands you add are just to guide all the fur, in areas that curve a lot add more to prevent clipping

puff brush is best girl

once you've finished your groom you can create a weight map to control the furs density (you can also make some for clumping and randomness and shit) (I usually don't) (mostly because I'm lazy) then go to children > interpolated and select your weight map in the density zoneland, if your computers beefy and/or you want a better idea of what it will look like you can change the viewport amount of particles to 100 (or whatever)

go render properties > curves and change it to strip (you don't need to do this using cycles) then back into particle properties under hair shape to change the diameter root length from 1 to whatever looks best (uber dependent on what size your model is, I usually go with 0.08)

oh fuck I forgot to mention you gotta do different systems for the head, neck, body, whatever. It makes it easier and is better for lag

roughness is pretty important for making animal-ish fur too, here's my settings I used for making this face fur, my settings for all my particle systems are pretty consistent but it's also pretty dependent on your models size

here;s some other things I forgot and can't be bothered to go back and add

selecting this thing will let you select groups

uuuuuh I think that's it on the groom itself onto shaders

so they're pretty important to making some nice looking fur, you can make it look fine in eevee but cycles will probably always look more realistic (not to imply eevee isn't best girl it's really good at most things)

in cycles you pretty much just need a principled hair bsdf shader with a few settings tweaked (here's mine for the model above) (also make sure the fur material is different to the skin material)

so for both cycles and eevee your best friend ever is the curves info node (hair info in older versions)

all of these can be pretty useful but the most usefulest ones for me are intercept into a colour ramp makes an ombre from the roots to the tip

and random which adds variation to the strand colour

here's a little breakdown of my cycles shader for her

and eevee, they're pretty similar tbh

BUT also for eevee you need to change a few more things to give your hair weight n shit

in render properties enable ambient occlusion and bloom, then in the settings of your lights enable contact shadows

and one more important thing for nice looking hair is lighting, I find it easier in cycles because it reacts more realistically and rim lighting my beloved, but in eevee it's suuper important to making it not look flat, if doing those settings edits didn't do much it's because of your lighting

1 make your background completely black so you can see what you're doing better

2 add ONE area light and position it, pay attention to how the size, distance, and power affect things and make sure you don't make your model look flat

then you can add a rim light (duplicate the area light and reposition) if you want to give your character some extra highlighting, although good fucking luck if you're using eevee it's probably not worth doing

then you can add an hdri (super good webbed site for them) to be the fill light

having it at full strength tends to flatten the model (especially in eevee)

and uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh I think that's it, I don't feel like reading all this back tbh

and please don't follow this like a loser follows the law this is just a guide and you should do whatever you find the most fun/gets the best result

ALSO ALSO don't feel upset if your first few attempts look like dogshit fur is super hard and only insane people make beautiful grooms first try

I literally left a discord group that I had been in for like, a week because that's what they called N!Alucard. Also because they wouldn't let me talk about LoS, only about NFCV.

I remember liking many of the fanart and fanfiction when it was just the first two seasons, and like a little bit with season three, but yeah, I noticed that as well in just about every fanfic I read. I tried to reread a lot of those fics and man, so many of them only focused on N!Alucard's trauma, and almost never any on Trey's, and it just got so boring after awhile.

But you're right. Celiakardo, from what I've seen of it, seems like a ship that I could get down with, but N!Trevphacard (I don't actually remember the ship name) just has a huge dynamic imbalance that overshadows what would've made the ship at least decent. And this is coming from someone who literally ships the entity within the castle of LoS with Gabriel. Honestly, N!Syphacard seems like a better ship than any with Trey in it.

Lmao noooo💀. But srsly,if a group or server is gonna focus exclusively on nfcv then they should've added that as a disclaimer, otherwise its just rude of them to not let you talk (and yes ik that the fandom in general has a hostile past w LoS too).

And yea, the fandom flanderized both n!Alu and Trey into the pwoor sad sexyman who has fat tiddies n cries, and into funny stinky drunky trauma-y man who is dumb and has sex w the sexyman respectively.

And the thing is that, you can have an unhealthy ship w a power imbalance! But you just gotta be aware that there is an imbalance there and were all that happening irl it would be a problem (even my beloved maleon ship is has its unhealthy elements. Leon bestie ilu but that mans is trouble). If there is no awareness of those elements it can come off as if they're being brushed under the rug or as if there's no actual unhealthy situation to begin with, which is hmmm :/. Ofc im not saying all ships must have a problematique disclaimer nor that all trephacard shippers are onboard w insulting your partner's murdered family, just that if there's no awareness of all that i find it uncomfortable.

And its funny you mention syphacard bc precusely one of the fics i vaguely remember was uhh, Sypha n Alu getting together while Trey anguished over it (iirc it was partially bc he hit or yelled at Sypha while drunk. Idk i do like that it addresses that alcoholism is not all funni silly jokes and it has devastating consequences both for the person and their loved ones but it also felt a bit mean to dump all the wrongdoings caused by Trey's poorly healed traum in front of him while n!Alu is the nice bf here despite his Behaviour. Im going here by memory tho so) and like Trey. Treyey. My buddy pal. Ik most bitches in a 10 mile radius want to lynch you but srsly dont simp like that you're better on your own

is skibidi toilet strange? sure.

is it creating a weird observable phenomenon where kids seem to be affected by the show so much that they seem obsessed with it? sure, and i'm a little freaked out about it.

but here's what im watching:

this is a 4 minute long, high-quality animation of blender renders of lego police officers having a full-on gunfight in the middle of the street.

the police officers have a tank.

why is there one cop in a hat carrying a world war two rifle? idk.

am i enchanted by it? hell yeah!

dino has been making these videos for years. as a kid, i would watch his older videos repeatedly, falling in love with the idea of my lego figures having epic battles.

sure, skibidi toilet and lego police swat both have kids attention locked in a trance, but at the same time, both really show a level of creativity and passion that i can really appreciate.

i dont really understand skibidi toilet, but if it's a well-crafted series of videos with a plot people can follow along and be inspired by, who am i to care?

if skibidi toilet inspires one kid to become a 3d animator, or a storyboard artist, or a director of a cartoon, i think skibidi toilet has done a great thing. im sure as hell inspired by the lego animations i grew up with, so why shame the next generation for having their creative spark ignited?

Erm I am once again asking for help from anyone who knows PCs can I send you the parts my sister's bf picked and what can I do to lower the price from 80k php (1.4k usd) to 60k php (1k usd) 😭

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

I think it's an easy answer to say Peter Parker but objectively, the majority of the fandom has a very fanon collective idea about who he is/what role he feels in a narrative that makes it feel like there are two distinct Peters that are running around in the tag. (Which is interesting, because Wade's character I think is pretty consistently written - the level of nuance differs, but the core of him is there, and I think it's because he's baseline a pretty easy character to understand while Peter is not since who he says he is/who he is contrats)

It's obviously mostly because comic canon + the three movie canons do not line up well the more recent they are, and the most recent converts are people who got into the TH movies, which are probably the least accurate/worst representation of Peter as a character. I think that writing him as a nice, sweetheart, infantile twink definitely fulfills a very classic yaoi fantasy and I understand why it exists, but at that point it's so disconnected from source it feels like a wade wilson/oc work that's been telephoned across the expanse of the fandom degrading Peter's core character further with every new iteration.

9. worst part of canon

I've said this once, I've said this a thousand times, but the ableism that exists within the comic universe to the degree that everyone that sees Wade and his scars reacts like it's the worst thing they've ever seen is not only unrealistic but also weird in canon context.

1) this is a world that has mutants, aliens, and meta-species and many canon characters have mutations or species traits that go outside the norm and they don't receive the same level of universal disgust

2) disability education! mutant rights are marvel's talking point for real world racism/ableism so why can mutants who are made of stone get humane treatment from fellow mutants but wade...does not? it's weird? it doesn't make any sense?

3) he literally does not look that bad (this is depending on author/artist. I saw someone say once that there are three Wades, horror Wade, action Wade, and romance Wade and depending on the comic plot line, his scars get worse to better respectively.) As someone who writes for this fandom I can confirm that there are many people who are attracted to Wade Wilson lol. It just does not. Make. Sense. To. Me. It's just ableism, plain and simple.

It just really bothers me. I really think comics are so based on conventional standards (I.E. every superhero is traditionally beautiful, body diversity doesn't exist, etc.) that when a character like Wade exists who is not conventional but still fits the body standards + the base of G.I. Joe it just doesn't make sense that he would receive the level of blatant ableism from every person he ever interacts with. I think he would get more! Is it what I'm saying.

10. worst part of fanon

I mean, where do we really start. (It's the babygirlification of Wade Wilson) it makes writing any level of nuance in their relationship very one-sided because you know the fans will literally agree with anything Wade does and contrast it with degrading and dehumanizing anything Peter does. Wade's actions are always justifiable because (vague hand wave in the direction of the babygirlification of serial killers) I think it bothers me so much because there are two people in this relationship and one of them is a canonical serial killer and one of them is a weird guy with a bad personality. I think they both suck, but if only one of them gets flack then it really makes the entire concept of them profoundly unfun.

Hey, y'all know bees aren't humans right? Like bees will just keep working until their last little bee breath because that's literally what they are made to do and they don't complain or care or long for something different? You guys understand that animals are animals and most do not have the capability to long for the great wide somewhere? You all realize the bee movie is not actually a documentary, right????

Stop picketing for the rights of bees who "don't want their honey stolen" Bees keep making honey until there is no room and then half of the hive swarms in order to find a new hive which increases the risk of bee disease to them and other pollinators like butterflies and wasps.

While we're at it, leave wasps the fuck alone. Those angry little fuckers are just as important as bees and if they see you as a threat to their safety it's because you are even if you don't fucking realize it. Wasps and Sharks, y'all act like Satan pissed them out specifically to spite you.
