Listen,
This is probably going to sound harsh to some of the new Tumblr people but I am currently in the works of blocking blank accounts.
Blogs with NO content what so ever + a standard profilepicture get blocked. I'm sorry. I'm not about to have my followers list full of bots.
I really do advise new Tumblr users to make a introduction post just... Telling people you're not a bot. Just do SOMETHING. Write "New. Getting to know the vibes" or "Still learning the ropes" is ENOUGH.
Just show us you're a real person. Me, and most likely so many others, are BEGGING YOU to do that. Having a blank blog that just gets you blocked will only give you a very bad impression of Tumblr.
Here's two very good reads for new users made by @thelaundrybitch How To - Tumblr Blogger Edition How To - Tumblr Community Labels

why do you block blank blogs?
let's talk about blank blogs.
blank blogs are tumblr accounts that do not have any content, such as reblogs, posts, and often will have no description and no photo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
both of these blogs would be classed as blank.
having a description may stop some people blocking you (such as she/her, 21, and hobbies), though if you do not have any posts, you are still a blank blog. obviously i can't really provide evidence of this without sharing peoples profile photos, etc. which i will not do.
so, why is this an issue?
well, for starters, many creators will simply block you. as creators, we often risk things like being shadow banned, algorithms suppressing our work and even account removal. this is absolutely devastating to those who have worked for hours, and even DAYS on something to have interactions completely killed by the site.
we have no way of knowing a blank blog is not a bot, or even someone on an alt account that could be sending hate, or stealing work (plagiarizing) for their other account.
also, as a blank blog, you are not supporting those you're following. you want to see more fanfiction? more art? many amazing creators have stopped sharing their work purely due to the lack of interactions.
reblogs are the best way to support us. and if we see you not only are not reblogging things we have dedicated weeks of our lives to share with you, but you refuse to share ANYONE'S work, why should we allow you a space in our communities?
if you would like to read fics and follow creators without reblogging, please at least post some other form of content to your profile. this could be something as simple as making a post like 'hey! i'm new to tumblr and im not entirely sure how this all works' or reblogging some photos of something you love.
if you don't want to be viewed as blank, PLEASE just add a description, add a title, a photo and make one post. that's it! it's reallllyyy simple in the grand scheme of things, and will prevent most people from blocking you. of course, without reblogging/commenting, you do run the risk of other creators blocking you (some will block spam likes due to lack of support).
if you ever have questions regarding blank blogs, feel free to ask!
remember, reblogs and comments are the way to support us!

It's come to my attention that new Tumblr users may not know that blank blogs get blocked. Tumblr isn't really a lurker site. It's expected that you'll post or reblog. The whole point of Tumblr is to build communities, so it's expected you'll contribute or interact in some way. A blank blog is either assumed to be a bot or it's assumed you just want to consume without offering any of yourself. So, reblog. Post. Fill your blog with things you like or thoughts on topics that interest you. Otherwise there's a 90% chance (100% on my end) that you will get blocked.

Can tumblr make is so you need to have an X amount of posts/reblogs on your account before you're able to follow?
I'm so sick of having to block bot accounts and blank blogs.

That’s ridiculous. I like things to read later and reblog with thoughts.
This site has gotten self righteous, like thank you for the work you put in but you know you’re doing it for free these imaginary rules are silly af
Hi, nonnie. I'm assuming this is in response to this post. If you're upset about blogs blocking others, I'm curious why you're in my inbox about it? If you read what I posted in my reblog, I stated that I've received asks and messages about other content creators blocking them. I never said I block spam likers, but I certainly won't tell another writer or creator how to run their blog.
Just like I won't tell you how to run yours.
I don't think it's self-righteous that blogs want interaction. Dollar wise, yeah, it's free. There is, however, a price that writers and creators pay. Like time and energy.
You mentioned liking things to read for later. Unless you are liking 10 or more things in a row, I doubt you're in that bracket of spam liking.
At the moment, I'm still going to produce and share my nonsense. I hope others continue to curate their spaces and get the love they deserve.
Thanks for stopping by.

Friendly reminder that if you're a blog with no bio, header, profile photo, any posts or age in description and spam like you will be automatically blocked.

I’m sorry, but I don’t give a shit how realistic your URL or reblogs & posts look. If your blog is untitled or has no banner or profile pic, then it’s getting blocked and reported spam.
Literally go to Google and make your profile picture a stock photo of a Honda Civic or something. It’d literally be 10x better than just having a blank blog.

Blank Blogs, you need to start reblogging and making your own posts if you're going to be here, otherwise yes you will get blocked by me and everyone else here.
For one, it's how creations and other posts get spread around on this site. It kills me whenever I post any edits and writing and then seeing blank blogs just like my stuff and their fucking blog is blank. The least you can do is help creatives on this site by reblogging their stuff. It's real discouraging when we don't get that support and eventually, we stop creating.
Two, I noticed that some of you blank blog havers only seem to have an account here just so you can lurk, drop into people's inboxes and then start some unnecessary discourse.
How about you don't do that?
If you really wanted to start a discussion about a topic, how about you hm... MAKE A POST ON YOUR EMPTY BLOG?!
How many times do the rest of us have to tell you that it's actually pretty easy to not have an empty blog to prevent yourself from getting BLOCKED?! BECAUSE, YES, YOU LOOK SUSPICIOUS.

NEW FOLLOWERS PLEASE READ!
GUYS!
Please, please, PLEASE, if you are a new blog, to avoid me lumping you in as spam and blocking you, put something on your blog. A few pictures, a few reblogs and post shares, a bit of a vague description about yourself so that I and many others can differentiate you from the porn bot blogs, which are RIFE at the moment. I blocked about eight of those blogs only yesterday, so I need to see that my follower traffic coming through is legit, or you’ll sadly be culled.
I know a lot of people only have blogs just to read fics, but really, tumblr isn’t about that. It should be an interactive experience, a place you can reach out to others, communicate, even if only minimally, and there’s literally nothing stopping you from doing this and still remaining under somewhat of a veil of anonymity, if that’s what your reason for keeping your blog empty is.
More and more of us are blocking blank blogs, meaning you’ll loose out in the end.

PSA about blank blogs.
i know some of new tumblr users don’t know that blank blogs get blocked! but there are so many blank blogs following me rn. i don’t know how many times we need to say this but if you follow us and have nothing on your blog, you will be blocked. i’m sorry, i’m not trying to sound harsh, it’s just that i’m so tired of guessing if it is a real person or not.
you will be blocked if you don’t have a name and it says “untitled”, if you don’t have posts, theme, no header, nothing. all you need to do is put a random picture, a name and just add something that can tell us you’re not a bot, literally anything either on your bio or a simple post. please! we’re literally begging you to do that. it’s not that complicated.

Who is making these porn blogs? Not the cool NSWF ones where it looks like someone real is actually posting their own content or talking about their kinks. I mean the weird ones with a bunch of random numbers after a painfully generic name that post a bunch of pictures of equally generic white women posing in the nude.
Who are you? What do you want? Do you honestly enjoy that kind of porn??? Why so many pictures of feet?
😬 You're freaking me out and it isn't even Halloween yet.
