Reposted from @genesistramaine Chasing Pearls’ @genesistramaine . The Parables of Nana’ Exhibition explores the universal identity of the soul though the mortal lens of a spiritual being who navigates the world as a servant of God and happens to be a Black woman, a daughter, a grand-daughter, a sister, a cousin, a friend, an auntie, and a Queer wife. Tramaine invites audiences to contemplate themselves in the presence of Divine spirit through the human face, which cannot see itself unless seen in reflection. • Genesis Tramaine, Parable of Nana, 2020 - Acrylic, Spray Paint, Jesus, Oil Sticks - Detail. 60 x 72 inches / - © Genesis Tramaine - Courtesy the Artist and Almine Rech - Photo: @kpegs • #GenesisTramaine #AlmineRech #AlmineRechGallery #AlmineRechLondon #london . #wip #contemporaryart #gallery #modern #blackwomanartist #supportblackart #creative #femaleartist #propheticart #art_worldly #artnouveau #artcollector #godis #originalart @i_lex_project https://www.instagram.com/p/CgBe_x_AQ-I/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Known for taking on the walls of buildings as her substrate of choice, James pares down her portraits for Girl Raised in Detroit by a magnitude that delicately balances intimacy with monumentality. On canvas, James delineates members of her immediate circle on a larger-than-life scale using striking, vivid colors that evoke joy, pain, strength, and resilience. Orchestrating an artist-muse relationship that speaks to her subjects’ lived experiences and personal histories, James fosters an environment wherein both parties can engage in reciprocal emotional support. In her series Bereavement?, James depicts her subjects respectively shedding masks made from repurposed clothing items that carry personal traumas, acknowledging the freighted history of sequestering racial struggles behind a façade.
The artist seeks to establish spaces of freedom and security that mirror the creative sanctuaries of the city that raised her...
“Girl Raised in Detroit” opens with a reception on January 12 from 6 - 8 PM. Come meet the artist!

Well, well well.
It’s been some time and I’ve returned but now I’m just a bit different.
25 now.
I’ve grown a lot, and it’s really cool to experience.
Since my time away from tumblr, I’ve had my handful of successfully failed relationships, friendships and I’ve gone through a few careers. Hairstylist and MUA, salesperson, receptionist, and probably more. I ended up getting my cosmetology license, but something else really felt like it was missing.
I ended up getting deeper into my spirituality post 1st breakup, and really it’s been such a fucking journey. I think the real reason I avoided places like tumblr and Facebook is because I have to look at how embarrassing I was growing up. Living mentally on this page for years. I never really had a huge following or anything but it was more about a community experience and also the researching aspect of so many topics being in one space just fed my brain.
Skip forward to now. We’re in the middle of a pandemic, and a slew of other traumatic and depressing shit going on in the world - and I’ve found refuge in painting. Still struggling to find ways to express my voice, and using my art to speak for itself. I just let it be what it is.
So I’m reviving my tumblr, the one place where things sort of made sense, trying to tie it all together.
It’s not that somethings missing, because if I’m being honest, things have been missing for some time or just weren’t there to begin with. But I felt like returning to this app just makes sense. So if the internet will indulge with me, hopefully I can post art, maybe somebody will see it and feel stuff. Not every piece is sad or transformative, but just for expression.
Oh and hey :)

Happy Birthday to Elizabeth Catlett (April 15, 1915 – April 2, 2012) who was an American and Mexican graphic artist and sculptor, best known for her work depicting the experiences of African-American people in the 20th century. Many of her graphic works addressed social injustice and the human condition of African-Americans as well as women’s lives. I am awake and dreaming of you
I have no one to tell but the Moon.
She tells me you still keep my stars in your pocket
I can feel them there now
Warming you.
Reminding you to shine brighter.
Hold them close
And tell them your secrets
Like I whisper mine in the silver light
We have lost nothing you know.

My eyes are really pretty 😌💞💐 You may use as reference for your own artwork~ Credit isn't necessary, but appreciated 🥰💖 Any likes, comments, bookmarks, and shares are appreciated too! _______________________________ Just wanted to post something different 💖💞 💐 I will try to upload more, so please be patient till then. A bit of an explanation and perspective below. _______________________________ I was feeling SUPER depressed and low yesterday. I'm better today, but I worry too much about a lot of stuff. I struggle a lot with mental health issues (i.e. GAD, depression, schizophrenia, OCD, some ADD tendencies), but I try to remain positive regardless, for both myself and for others. That's just who I am. I can't stand being mad at someone or something, I can't stand being sad or crying a lot (esp. in front of others), and I stay to myself so I can keep my negative thoughts away from the people I love. However, it still isn't healthy to do, cause I'm projecting those extra negative thoughts on myself. Please, if you have these kind of things happen to you too, regardless of mental health issues, tell someone what you are going through. Communication is key 💞💖 It's really scary and frustrating if you have no one, or, feel so afraid to talk because you are uncomfortable. I've been there MANY times. I had to be hospitalized at least 5 times for this reason... You matter. Believe that please, for me, okay? 💐💐💐💞💞💐💐💐 _____________________________ #mentalhealth #mentalillness #mentalillnessawareness #anxiety #anxietywarrior #depression #depressionandanxiety #ocd #ocdawareness #schzophrenia _______________________ #reference #artreference #drawingreferences #eyesreference #eyes #eyesreferences #blackartist #blackartists #blackwomanartist #artreferences (at Ellenville, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTKL_rNrERi/?utm_medium=tumblr
