Currently doing my monthly rereading of Coattails

after a week I finally got to read @pain-in-the-butler 's chapter 28 of Coattails ^v^

one of the beauties of this fanfic is as I've said, the imagery, so whenever I read a chapter my brain is full of scenes and I always crave to capture them, atleast how I see them. unfortunately, I don't always get to do that... but drawing a silly little thing to capture the essence of the chapter is just as good for me.

anyway yea. this chapter was very rainy. I'm 50% serious cause I think he was wet 50% of the time. even if I'm wrong, I couldn't get rid of the image.

Oh shit it’s finally done

This is fanart for the incredible, amazing, heart-warming-and-wrenching (it has range) Coattails by @pain-in-the-butler which you can read here. It’s one of the best fanfics I’ve read ever, every chapter is an absolute delight, all the characters are so in-character and also so well and interestingly utilised, and if you haven’t read it you absolutely should. It will recover the years of your life that the season 2 rewatch everyone was doing at one point took off you.

So, I am a horse girl, I love horses, and I actually don’t mind drawing them, so obviously I had to do fanart of Ciel with the Irish and Avalon in chapter 23. The horses are truly one of the highlights of this fic: Ciel’s interactions with them are so sweet, and Sebastian’s are usually quite amusing.

Also this did take me literally forever because I took up cross-stitch and then life kept happening and also I struggled with horse shading for some reason

Thinking about dadbastian... It’s the primordial evil entity deciding that this human child is worth protecting and nurturing, even though it goes against his very nature. And that this human child deserves to be loved despite the fact that he sees himself as unlovable for what he’s done and what he’s been through. And the one who he thinks will drag him to hell is actually the one trying to help him through his worst moments. And even though a demon is definitely not an ideal parent to raise and teach a child, he’s going to try anyway because he knows that child needs him, and he won’t leave him no matter what, no matter how that child may push him away and say he doesn’t need anybody to love him and that he’s fine being all alone, when he’s really just a traumatized kid that actually desperately needs a parent to love him and guide him through life...For me🙂

Coattails was actually the catalyst that made me join the fandom. I had a Black Butler relapse last month after I looked it up just out of curiosity of how it ended, was surprised to see it was still running, caught up on it, and then started scrounging AO3 like a raccoon in a trash can. Seeing an active fic and then following the fanart links back to tumblr and seeing that there were still people reading black butler and that there was a fandom that wasn't just shipping wars made me want to be part of it. Ciel in the microwave? How could I stay away.
