It’s uncomfortably cynical, but I love that the Black Rose Circle has to do so little to manipulate people into becoming duelists. And I love even more that Utena beating them in the duel doesn’t actually do anything for them: the problems that led them to be manipulated are still very much there, but in the cases of Kozue, Shiori, and Tsuwabuki, they're able to just bury it back down.

Wakaba doesn’t get that luxury.

trying to write something about how much i hate the ‘misandry in utena/the utena fandom’ crowd but it feels kind of redundant to me. i think i just don’t consider people who use the word ‘misandry’ serious people. i do however feel an obligation to occasionally make my position clear on that front, because im aware i tougapost and some people love to bring that guy up as the misandry in the utena fandom poster boy. which is so fucking stupid because touga is not victimised by ‘misandry’, touga is victimised by homophobic violence which is wrapped up in misogynistic violence, both of which are the cogs in the machine we call patriarchy. touga is not affected by misogyny in the same way that anthy is, that’s one of the key takeaways you can get from their being foils, and i don’t really like the whole ‘oh patriarchy hurts men too’ stuff because it neglects the fact that men reap so many material benefits from what some people deem ‘harm’ to them (emotional repression being the big one. it’s not great but when you’re the privileged party and gain power from it, who cares? it’s like the inverse of kozue trying to use sexuality to gain power: she can’t do that). but touga is a shitty dysfunctional person who has been shaped by violence and in turn perpetuated violence, and his character excels, imho, at examining how patriarchy functions and attempts to homogenise life’s many complexities. same deal as nanami really. they just play different roles in this gender essentialist nightmare that crunches out any grit. and you can extend that idea to all rgu characters but i am who i am and that is a kiryuu siblings enjoyer

i am a kaoru girl because im in my twenties and ive learned and grown and every day i watch another episode of oniisama e i thank god that i wasnt watching this when i was 15 but i like get it. with rei i get it. like i understand what rei asaka did to you guys. head in my fucking hands she LIKES playing basketball she LIKES hanging out with kaoru so much that they have so little screen time together. like if rei spends more time with someone who actually makes her feel like a person then WHO is gonna be the manifestation of unhealthy and sick devotion as love????????

Revolutionary Girl Utena is such a strange series to recommend for someone. Cause on one hand, lesbians and bisexuals. Let's fucking go. You love to fucking see it. WLW! Hell yeah!

But on the other: You're either recommending a show that is going to have weird shit ranging from characters thinking they're a cow to a young girl laying an egg. And then there is the movie where teenagers are being turned into cars.

And it's all symbolism about growing up. And it's still very good.

i need nanami to SWEEP in that poll. went into owlshow expecting to love amity because i heard that she was a mean girl and then she was mean one (1) time. YAWN. nanami on the other hand invented being an iconic blonde bitch <3

nanami needs to crush that boring little bitch into the ground im sorry but amity is NOTHING she is simply not interesting in any way everything amity has ever done or attempted to do nanami did with excellence (being abused, being a middle school “mean girl,” being a lesbian, etc etc) like obviously comparing the owl show to rgu isn’t fair in any way bc the owl show is not even interesting and rgu is one of the greatest stories ever written but pitting the best character from rgu against the worst character from the owl show is just not even a fair contest whatsoever. at least pit her against eda or something. but this website loves the owl show for some inexplicable reason so i can’t even reasonably expect nanami to sweep even though by all fair and measured accounts she deserves to decimate and dominate not just this poll, but in fact the entire bracket

That reminds me idk if I said it but the whole Cereza/Lukaon thing in Bayo origins was so Chibiusa/Helios coded and it really made my teeth itch so to speak

I have heard…. Anthy gets a lot of hate cuz she’s emotionless and has no personality ect you guys are dumb. All of personality traits are shown in a subtle manner in the way she smiles and nods ect but some of you need everything painted out for you 🤦🏾🤦🏾
