#girl this year was the hardest thing ive ever had to live through#queue This Year by the mountain goats#let me count the new terrors 2022 gave me#family struggles#left out of family gatherings and made to feel unimportant or uninvited because i dont live within 3 mi of home#miscarriage#self explanatory right there but miscarrying at 3 months was TRAUMATIC#financial struggles ofc#we have progressively gotten deeper and deeper in debt every month this year and cannot pay the rent this month tbh#work stress#ive never been more taken advantage of or underpaid in my life and yet i am contracted to be here until march#relationship stuff#carter is the best husband ever but Shared Trauma and finances can absolutely cause fights and take us to places we havent been before#thankfully we work through it and are closer than ever#but its still been really hard#i just want to nap and know that nothing will fall apart without me for a day

#i didn’t get really into them until danger days and after they broke up#and then I got really into them and they helped me so so so much#and I was like I’ll never see them live I’ll never even be close like no way they’re getting back together#then I get a famous last words tattoo in 2014 and I’m like this is amazing tribute to the best band I’ll never ever see#then I remember the day they announced they were getting back together ON HALLOWEEN 2019#I take the day off work to sit in multiple ticket queues in January 2020 and get tickets to detroit (while living in Pittsburgh)#then covid happens and the sept 2020 show gets pushed to sept 2021 and then pushed again to sept 2022#while I’m living in chicago and I have to drive approx 1600 miles in five days#AND I GET TO FINALLY SEE THEM!!!!!!!!!#my life is terrible rn but I am#so thankful that I got to see them

Week 19.1/52: May 9th - May 15th 2022 | BRGR BRGR 🍔
Another day in Abbotsford means another day of being a tourist but taking 8 hours out of our day to work LMAO. Started off the day at BRGR BRGR and tried their BRGR LOL. It was a yum burger!!!!!!! Honestly the taste was comparable to Lil’ Empire Burger in Calgary HAHAAHA although more expensive I think. But so good. They had jenga and tic tac toe for you to play in order to pass time while you wait for the food so me and Sunny played them lmao. The restaurant is super cute too. Love all of the places’ interior designs! Every corner so photographable.
We also stopped by another coffee shop and the infamous duck statue that Tano mentioned last week (HAHAHAHAHHAHA —it’s the cutest duck... has my energy tbh... I think I am related to this angry duck... they remind me of Kung Fu panda’s goose dad... why is this random duck so angry.... but I love it so much... hahahahahahahaa) before heading to Costco again. Got their vanilla cone and hot dog (again). So yum. Thanks Sunny! I really stan Costco ice cream!!!! Their cone yyds!!!!!!!!!!!! So good lol. Rest of the day we were just working... Hectic and busy shift especially at the end. Had to drive back to YVR at 10pm... I didn’t get home until after 11pm...... death........ x_x

Books I read in 2022
I cannot possibly remember every book, so I'm missing some, but looking at my bookshelves this is what I was able to come up with.
This year: almost no non-fiction, almost all new books. During the early phase of the pandemic I got super into manga, which cut into my prose reading time, so there are fewer books here than in previous years.
The best ones
Circe - I got it for Christmas last year and I read it in about 2 days because I could not put it down. Beautiful writing, excellent restaging of The Odyssey, everything I ever wanted 10/10
The Song of Achilles - After finishing Circe I bought this at Shakespeare and Company when I was in Paris and it actually distracted me from my trip a little bit because again, could not put it down. Madeline Miller owns my soul. Circe was better though.
The Locked Tomb - maybe the only time I have ever gone back and re-read the entire series before a book came out instead of just telling myself I would re-read the entire series before the new one came out and then forgetting to and being too impatient to not read the new book straight away. It was really a blast reading all The Locked Tomb back-to-back and I had a great time with Nona The Ninth as a result. All in all probably my best reading experience this year, actually.
I'm Glad My Mom Died - I read the Jeanette McCurdy book mostly on the plane to go spend Christmas with my family, which was a choice. It is not at first what you expect from the title. It's smarter than that. This book is really exceedingly cleverly written in such a way to suck you in and get you having a good time despite how daaaaaaaaark it is in there. Re the abusive mom and child actor tell-all: as bad as you think this will be, it's actually worse. But the pov is so well done and in such a way that you really grok that this girl does not understand how fucked up things are, while making absolutely sure that you as the reader understand exactly how fucked up things are. That is not an easy balance to do well and she makes it look easy. I hope this girl's life is uneventful ever after and that she writes more books, I think she could be a fabulous writer.

Where would they go? If they ran away together. No more Sonic the hero, no more Ava who stopped the sun, just them, alone, wherever they want to go and whoever they wanted to be. It's a cruel thought, and Ava knows neither would ever go through with it — they both love the others too much to leave for good. But if they did. If they did.
They think of running away with Sonic. They think of him showing them any of the incredible places he's seen and talked about — Little Planet, Northstar Island, Soleanna, the Starfall Islands. They feel a little like Amy, imagining their hands pressed together, him tugging her along to see the next incredible place, to hear the next incredible story. Telling stories around the campfire of wherever they've settled for the night, laughing too loudly, sitting too close. The setting switches every few seconds, but the image is the same : the two of them, together, themselves, happy, close. Something like whole.
And then she laughs, softly, head ducking, eyes opening. She turns to look at him just as the sun breaks the horizon; the world spills gold. He glows gold, the light bounding off his cheeks, his quills. Ava smiles and forgets to breathe, eyes huge and cheeks warm, and laughs again. The sunrise is beautiful, he's right. And running away would be freeing and fun. But —
The sunrise is beautiful, but Sonic's better.

Day 331, Disgusted is done! Silly has a rework that I like enough to try inking and coloring, and I think I've officially decided I want to do some changes to WTF?! and Triumph, specifically in the hands and arms because they've always looked weird to me. Mostly Triumph's hands, but WTF's double-jointedness is also a little offputting (I don't think I executed that pose very well so I've gotta try again)

hello! ive binged your blog this past week and have been so invested and impressed with how professionally everything has been done. I particularly liked the snippets of your 'process' you've hinted at in other asks. I havent been around since the beginning so i wanted to ask what inspired you to undertake such a large project! or, rather, did you expect it to be as big as it became? each generation has 70+ daily posts, their portrait headshots, family portraits... i love it! were you trying to build an audience when you started out? was it a covid project that you had time to build a huge queue for? i think ill be starting my own narrative simblr here soon and i'd love to hear your thoughts or advice about your journey with it, if any.
Hello and thank you for such a lovely message, it's so nice to receive feedback on the quality of my Decades Challenge because I do put so much effort in behind the scenes thanks to my agonising perfectionism!
As a project it has grown beyond what I thought it would be, to a point that I had to reign it back in in early-2022 because I couldn't keep up. I'll put more detail under the cut ✨
The Langstons started as a covid project in 2020. I was an unemployed student with a lot of time on my hands. I'd done legacies before and was pretty good at getting close to the end so that was the 'project', to do the Decades Challenge. And while looking for inspiration like cc and builds etc I found simblr and discovered people were posting their Decades Challenges here with narrative attached. By this stage I'd already played a fair bit into my Langston family (they had 4 kids by that point) so I decided to start posting my sims as well, which pushed me to put a bit more effort in with shots, story, editing etc because I had imposter syndrome. I didn't intend for there to be much narrative or story, and I think that's pretty obvious when reviewing the 1890s Langstons, but it started to grow as I was posting because I wanted to give my sim characters justifications for their life paths I was sending them on... and it all kind of took off from there, as a Decades Challenge story.
Covid over 2020 and 2021 in my country forced us into hard lockdowns, and over those 2 years I had heaps of spare time for home-based hobbies - so I just kept pushing myself to keep going with my Decades Challenge for something to do. I got really into creating storylines and costuming and wanting to do the project 'justice' because of how much effort was going in and how many generations I needed to cover to finish it. Then I stared doing lookbooks, creating portraits and character pages, and then making cc (which was a fun side project).
I wanted to build an audience at the start because I wanted to gauge whether anyone was as interested in my sims as I was in others', and when I stared getting feedback and responses to my posts it was very validating and flattering, so that spurred me to keep up. I never dreamed it would get the audience it has now! It's nice being told that something you are making is good. IRL at the time, I was pretty miserable - I graduated my Masters without a job, I was trying to conceive and failing, I was lonely due to covid and lost some of the best years of my 20s - but simblr made me happy and was a distraction from those hard things and so I really poured effort into the thing that brought me happiness.
2022 and 2023 forced me to pull back from my Decades Challenge project due to pregnancy and becomming a parent. It felt very natural to drop it at the time, but since finding my groove with parenting and my new life I still want to finish this project because it's been nearly 4(!) years of effort and I'd hate to leave it so close to the end. So that's why I'm still here - in a reduced capacity to what I was in 2020 and 2021 at my peak - trying to get it done. I don't post lookbooks or do cc anymore, because I just don't have the time anymore. But everyone is so encouraging, I have made some nice friends here and I'm constantly in awe of and inspired by the sims, content and stories others are creating. There is so much more potential for historical gameplay in the years since I started my Decades Challenge - farming! horses! infants! - and I hope that my project has inspired others to have a go! That's the best legacy I could hope to leave...
