Whooping crane (Grus americana), a large crane species native to North America. Populations decreased after European settlement due to hunting and habitat loss, and in 1941 there were only 15 adults remaining in the wild. Thanks to decades of conservation work there are now over 500 in the wild and additional birds in captivity. You can read more about them from the USFWS here.

Halsin’s quote about “resentment will spring up regardless like mushrooms” (or something along those lines) lives in my head anytime something happens. It’s the first thing that comes to mind whenever I find myself resenting someone else or when someone is acting negatively about me.
And the quotes:
“No matter how long I live, I will always strive to remain a keen pupil. Only a hook would think he could drink in all knowledge until none is left”
“You sound like a student, reciting words for a test without considering their meaning.”
“Sometimes I think conventional wisdom is too narrow about what someone can or can’t be.”
“Natures tapestry is infinitely complex”
So on and so forth, I could create an entire list of quotes but that’s for another time. Like the writer of Halsin absolutely slaughtered, dare I say decimated. As a writer it’s so amazing to see just what people can write. It may be mundane, but the idea that someone wrote that, spent time writing that, is amazing. I don’t see glory in the mundane, because what you call mundane is glorious, and isn’t that what we call poetry? (okay so yeah I took that out a poem I wrote while sick and added more words to chunk it up, but my post my rules I can ramble all I want).
And the voice actor? Absolutely pulls it all together. The delivery of the lines absolutely amazing and I think that’s part of why they stick with me so much. The way someone talks can be a make or break of whether or not you actually pay attention and take weight as to what they’re saying. I think everyone has had that one really boring history teacher who all you remember is how boring they were and the way they spoke, so kinda like that. You probably get the concepts, but nothing else. But when someone talks good you pay more attention and are more likely to y’know take weight to what they say. The way the voice actor did Halsin is just so top tier.

There is a very small patch of woods outside my bedroom window and I love it sooo much, because there's tons of beautiful birds that sit in the trees and I get to watch them and listen to them sing. The only downside is they'll start singing around 5am sometimes and they can be loud lol

Having a bimbo girlfriend is the best thing to ever happen to Simon Riley. Not only does he get to be with someone who looks like an angel— you act like one, too.
“Keep your eyes closed, Si. This thingy can blind you.” You sound fully convinced of it as you apply the skincare over his eyebrows, the pads of your fingers running over his rough skin with a gentleness he's never experienced. “‘S not gonna blind me, bird.” He reassures, yet he still keeps his eyes closed and fully focuses on the sensation of the cool liquid being smeared all over his face, matching with you.
“You don’t know that.” A quiet chuckle comes out of him because he does, in fact, know that none of the ingredients can blind him— he read the bottle in secret.
You finish applying the product on his skin, planting a gentle kiss on his chapped lips before you hum softly, face scrunching up as you feel the dryness of his lips.
“Wait.” There's pure amusement in his eyes as he sees you jog out of the room, coming back not even 10 seconds later out of breath, but with a stick of lip balm in your hand.
“Do this.” You make a kissy face and he doesn't hesitate to copy you, trying his best not to smile as you steal a kiss before starting to carefully apply the lip balm on his dry lips. He has never been taken care of like this— never even dared to dream about it, yet this is his reality now.
“Much better, isn't it?” Simon might as well have died right on the spot and went to heaven with the way you grin up at him, the light above you almost looking like a halo.
It takes a few seconds of staring at you before he's nodding his head, getting up to steal a kiss, a genuine smile on his face as you smack his arm softly and scold him for smearing the lip balm.

Just read about the study that looked into the connection between the sound resonance of human-marked caves and the location of cave paintings. They discovered that the cave paintings were most commonly located in the areas with the clearest resonance, the best acoustics. The ideal places to sing. Scientist are bound by a duty to commit to facts, to stick with what is known and can be known. They aren't allowed to just wildly speculate, jump to conclusions, or romanticise the connections they make. But I am not a man of science and I can say whatever I want.
We called them "cavemen" at first, when we knew even less of them than what we do now. They were hunter-gatherers, nomadic people who wouldn't have stayed in one place for long, not even a place as good as a cave. A cave is a maw full of blackness, cold and dark, unless you bring fire. They brought fire with them, that we know. They painted the walls in light of torches, beasts that appear to move in the flickering light. They painted the walls in places where one could best sing.
A cave is a place of darkness, unless you bring fire. And quiet - perhaps save for the bats - unless you bring your voice. What did they sing about? The same songs every year, that one sings that time of year When We Return To The Cave, or new ones made up on the spot? Were they sacred? They must have been. One does not go into an unfamiliar cave alone, there are too many ways you may die. You go together, someone shows it to you. Brings you to the paintings to sing. To sing in the dark underworld that looks nothing like the world above, and where even the weakest voices carry, amplifying like nowhere else in the world that they knew.
Is that what we still yearn for? To go with your kin to the hollow halls of sacred places, where the echo compels you to reverent silence, until it's time to sing? To hear the familiar tune, amplified by the echos of stone, urged to join the song just as wolves are called to join the howl? Our urge just as natural as theirs, like migrating birds yearn to leave and return?
Why else do we have churches, but for our yearning to sing in the caves?
