Is it possible to request a Guts x reader where Guts secretly pines(?) over the reader since golden ages and finally confesses in Elfhiem, only to find out the Reader was starting to pine(?) over him too? Sorry if that doesn't make any sense or you don't want to write it-

summary ;; — he kept it a secret, unsure of how to deal with these feelings, but when he decided it was time he told you after years, he was even more shocked to know you had felt the same.

he'd kept it well hidden, but at the same time, if you looked for it, you'd find it. it was small and he was shy about it, unable to talk to you at first and holding you in high respect since he had first met you. he'd be slightly intimidated at the same time, unsure of how to bring up a conversation with you in the first place, even if you seemed relaxed and easy going, but even more so if you seemed reserved.
either way, he looked like a puppy wandering after his owner during your days in the band of the hawk. but maybe thats a bit exaggerated, but it'd also be a lie to say that he didn't always try and linger around you and that his eyes wouldnt search to find you whenever the band was together. he even found himself subconsciously relaxing whenever he did.
he likely didnt even notice this at first, but eventually he would have to. it made him frustrated and even more embarrassed whenever he would think about it. this was the last thing he needed, but he just couldn't help it. he'd tell himself he'd stop, only to never be able to break his habits.
eventually, he was forced to make peace with his feelings. what else could he do? ask you out? no. he just couldn't. he wanted to, be he simply couldn't.
but making peace with it didnt mean necessarily being able to control his feelings better. he'd never be able to get used to that flutter in his stomach whenever he saw you smile, or being unable to calm down his blush whenever you accidentally touched.
with time, he was able to hide it more smoothly, but he didnt see it as a good thing. he hated how he was unable to tell you before the eclipse, because he had absolutely no chance of telling you after. all chances he had before that event were wiped out once it happened.
both of you were still healing and both of you still wanted revenge, and he doubted you wanted to deal with his feelings right after something like that had happened.
but it just felt so perfect now. he hoped that it wasnt just him that felt like this was the time he had been waiting for ever since he had met you. casca had been healed, you both had found your peace in your new group, and you were in the safety of elfheim.
and although both of you were still hurting from the eclipse, the new people and opportunities you had found along the way were slowly healing you, the pain fading away slowly.
and before he could even figure out what he was saying, the words slipped from his mouth.
he didnt even know what he had said himself, just watching the surprising expression form on your face. he only realised after the words began to linger in the air, but it was too late.
he was as shocked as you were, likely even more. but what surprised him even further was finding out that you felt the same.
and he could only damn himself after that, realising he had wasted so much time waiting for this moment when he couldve been with you so much earlier.

Berserk and Liminality
I think part of why I'm so okay with the final Miura chapter being the "final" chapter of Berserk (to me) is because it preserves the themes of liminality present both in the literal text, and in the meta-context of reading longform, serialized fiction. (Spoilers ahead) As Branded, Guts and Casca are described as living within the interstice between worlds. They exist in the very literal liminal space between the world of humans and the world of monsters and demons. They are trapped between the two, in a place that is supposed to be transitory. Guts particularly as The Struggler spends the bulk of the story *in transit,* as the brand prevents him from ever returning to his previous state or moving on to something else. The Eclipse is supposed to be a temporary, transitory state between humanity and demonhood for the bearer of the Behelit, and during that liminal period all who are not slated to transition into demonhood, are meant to die. By surviving as branded, Guts and Casca are perpetually trapped in this liminal space, referred to in fiction as the "interstice". As an audience, we ourselves reading Berserk also exist in a liminal state of sorts. We are in transition between having begun the series and having finished it. Depending on the schedule and any hiatuses, this liminal state created by reading manga can be comforting, like being in a hotel, or unsettling, like anxiously waiting for a kettle to boil. The time between chapters of Chainsaw Man is like being in a hotel. I know it to be temporary, and there's a scheduled date for my time in that transitory state to end. The time between Berserk chapters on the boat to Elfheim felt like waiting for water to boil. I don't know how long it takes water to boil! But it's going to boil eventually right? Right?! And I can't look at the site I read the scans on because the old adage says that that's going to make it take longer. Like many others, I spent more than 8 years watching that pot, waiting for it to boil. And that's not to complain, or to say that that time was wasted, that I didn't appreciate those chapters, those tiny bubbles and near-imperceptible wisps of steam, but to emphasize that feeling of liminality. My experience with Berserk has always been liminal. It started before I knew what manga was, before I was born even. I spent 15 years of my life reading, anxiously awaiting the next chapter, and as time went on and hiatuses became more frequent, worrying about Miura's health. And so when fans were upset that Miura's final chapter didn't wrap up the story in a nice bow, I understood, but I couldn't relate. Liminal stories shouldn't have closure, because then they cease to be liminal. There are other reasons I am satisfied with Miura's ending, reasons that have to do with my own trauma and the way that informs my relationship with Guts, Casca, and the very idea of closure, but I think this reading on liminality is one that might make sense to a lot of people. I think this also explains why I felt so many feelings of frustration towards the larger western Berserk fandom, which was largely adamant that more chapters be published in pursuit of a "better ending." Because why would you want such a liminal story to cease being liminal?

Okay so Berserk ch.  365+366 thoughts. Spoilers below.
Art was really good, and I liked seeing everyone in elfheim reacting to Griffith’s aura. Does a good job of creating a sense of weight and enormity, which has been important in Berserk for a long time. Reminds me of earlier parts of the series where we’d have huge panels of a battle, or monsters arriving, to create a sense of grandeur and terror.  Also really liked Guts’ frenzied attacks against Griffith. It shows how irrational he becomes and how Griffith’s mere appearance throws him into a senseless rage. I also like how his eye looks like the Beast of Darkness’.
Griffith’s calm smile the whole time was unnerving in the best way possible.
Some ppl. have complained that not a lot happens. Personally, while I think this is true, I don’t see it as a bad thing. It actually happens a lot in Berserk that a chapter will just be action and huge panels showing reactions/battles/etc. where the plot doesn’t advance much. Seems to me ppl are understandably overlooking this b/c of the huge build up for this release.

With the new chapter of #Berserk out, I felt the need to draw Casca's new attire, being manga I don't know if I got the colors right but they're in Elfheim so I think it will look like this.

Ok so this is me, yknow on anon as promised bringing you something fun to answer fingers crossed! What's your take on possible future hill of swords moments? I feel like since then so much has changed storywise but if we're real neither guts nor griff really resolved anything about their feelings for eachother OR moved on so if they met again (by chance or by choice) what do you think would go down? A repeat of the last time or something brand new given guts' sort-of-development at elfheim?
ooh interesting question, ty!
tbh if I’m being genuinely speculative then I think that their next interaction is going to be an immediate fight in which Guts sees Griffith and goes beast of darkness and maybe kills some of the rpg group as collateral damage, based on the scene in Casca’s dreamscape where dog Guts loses it when seeing pterodactyl Femto and nearly destroys the coffin.
But it sounds like their next interaction won’t be their last, so maybe after that we can start getting somewhere with their unresolved emotions. I don’t have any real concrete ideas for this though. Basically I think Guts and Griffith are both avoiding confronting their lingering feelings in what could legit be a deliberate parallel to the year between Guts leaving and the Eclipse back in the Golden Age, and I want closure this time.
Well, again being genuinely speculative, I think we won’t get that closure til the actual climax of the story, but we will get it. So this basically comes back to how I think Berserk will end lol, which is Guts and Griffith getting a moment of emotional connection right before one or preferrably both dies, acknowledging each other as their true lights in the surrounding darkness, a la Ganishka’s final scene (or even the King’s death to go further back), and finding fulfillment in killing each other/dying together.
The dream is for this to happen in a slow-paced 3rd duel type scene where they have lots of time and space to talk, rather than an action-packed fight w/ Guts in beast of darkness mode and Griffith leveled up into Femto or w/e.
To be more detailed, and to feel more like a call-back to Hill of Swords, I think Griffith should be the first to get the ball of emotional truth rolling by admitting he was wrong then and he isn’t free of his feelings after all. Guts gets fucked up about it and says a lot of angry stuff that boils down to ‘I was pretty much in love with you back in the day and I’m still not over it and I’m mad about that,” Guts lashes out first and Griff is on the defensive and both are kind of reeling from this exchange and neither actually wants to kill the other.
(Those are the necessary revelations specifically imo, that Griffith isn’t emotionless after all and his heart is still bthumping for Guts, and that Guts loved Griffith the whole time and never saw Griff as a monster pre-Eclipse, because those are their specific misunderstandings about each other right now.)
I think at this point I’ve settled on the two of them falling from a height as a parallel to Griffith catching Guts on the hand at the start of the Eclipse, but Guts drags Griffith down with him this time and Griff lets him, as my ideal griffguts death, but I’d accept plenty of others too as long as the catharsis is there.
Also this is assuming fetus/moonbaby is neutralized and out of the picture by then of course, but tbqh all my hopeful speculation assumes that lol.
Ooh and another possibility is that Griffith learns Guts never hated him pre Eclipse but Guts doesn’t learn that Griffith still has feelings, which would be kind of a reverse of their state of understanding pre-Eclipse (in which Griffith believed Guts left him to get away from him and Guts realized Griffith loved him). Maybe that would fit better with a potential non-climactic confrontation in which like, Guts goes beast of darkness and Griffith takes off again. NGriff is so placid that Miura just continuing to write him nearly the same way he has been would work imo, it would leave the reader to fill in the blanks of how he’s feeling but we’d know by that point that he IS feeling, which could be cool.
Then Guts would learn his side of things at the climax, and they’d die together in an emotionally satisfying way, and it would be good.
lmk if you (or anyone else) have any ideas for another hill of swords style scene!

I remember when I first got into Berserk, around 2017, my friend had convinced me to try Bloodborne despite being pretty put off by dark souls. I found it too frustrating at first, it was challenging for me mechanically and I kept hitting barriers and not knowing how to progress. I was doubtful that I’d enjoy Bloodborne, but he thought that I’d enjoy it more, mainly because of the world, design and tone of the game, and he was right, I loved it, and subsequently the mindset I learned on how to approach bloodborne made playing through dark souls much easier, and I was able to appreciate that a lot more. He then recommended that I check out Berserk, a cool series that has had a lot of influence, especially on soulsborne stuff, like the skeleton wheels, classic, and I thought sure, I’d heard a bit about it before and I enjoy reading manga a lot, though my friend wasn’t a manga reader, he had only seen the 1997 anime.
When I first read the Black Swordsman arc, I really thought “I’m curious about the world and story, but I’m not sure I could like Guts, he’s just too much of an asshole for me to like, I’m not sure how he can change that would make me like him” and now I want nothing more than to see Guts get the happiness he deserves, and see him smiling again.
I had no idea that Guts would become one of my favourite characters of all time, a unique and complex character with so much depth and who has struggled through a difficult and dangerous life that has left him scarred. But he still stands. Seeing almost all of Guts’ life, a hostile and threatening world from the very beginning to the joys of the golden age, his most pained and darkest time, and then his slow but gradual progress to once again find companionship and share his path with others, and grow beyond his past self.
And my love of Guts is only the tip of the iceberg, never have I read a story as powerful as Berserk, and I think many would agree when if I said it was a masterpiece. Kentaro Miura was such an incredibly talented artist, writer and storyteller, crafting an exceptional work that would be widely influential, inspirational and insightful for so many reasons, something so fantastic in vision with incredible spectacle and designs, but also with such personal themes that it resonates with so many us. I’m truly heartbroken at Miura’s death, such a tragedy when an artist dies before they can finish their life’s work. In a message from George Morikawa, he says that Miura had the ideas for Berserk from when he was 18. It is terrible that we will never get to see Miura’s rendition of the ending, however, of all the places for Guts’ journey to end, things could be far worse off. Things aren’t perfect, the future is uncertain and there will be struggles until the end of our days, but with our friends we can still make progress, and even if it can’t offer resolution, Elfheim can give refuge, and give our characters a well needed rest in their journey.
I know I’m not the only one who was moved by Berserk, it changed how I view myself and helped me realise just how powerful stories can be, and each of us find our own joy in reading it. Reading it changed my life, as it has for many of us, and in memory of Kentaro Miura the least we can do is keep struggling onwards. Rest easy, struggler, you deserve it.

CASCA | BERSERK
big sis figure!!! she cares for everyone!
the only woman in the band of the hawk
former unit commander then leader when griffith was imprisioned
she only cared about griffith at first and his goals, being entirely willing to give her life up or the sake of his goals
she slowly became her own person as time went by, growing closer to guts in the process
the only survivor besides guts after the eclipse
like him, she is branded and she is a target for the apostles
after the eclipse, she lost herself entirely and regressed into a child-like state, forgetting everything. upon reaching elfheim, she was cured by schierke and farnese. she is still battling with plenty of mental scars, though
she is unable to face guts despite being conscious now
she remembers what happened while she was in such an awful state, feeling grateful toward farnese mostly.
tired but very earnest to do what’s better for everyone
she is not as cynic as guts but she has a very tough attitude and is very determined !!
a bit self-conscious, she battles a lot with the fact she is a woman and considers feminine stuff doesn’t suit her
has a soft spot that anyone can get to see given some time
miura for the love of god stop making her suffer i beg you my crops are dying

     GUTS ( BERSERK )
i am depressed edgy big man please help i don’t like this anymore
no eye and no arm guts, haha.
ex-mercenary from the band of the hawk. currently slashing demons n’ stuff to survive.
lead a very complicated life since his birth, being taken by the woman of a mercenary. he was raised to fight by him, losing his only maternal figure at an early age. that was the only love he knew till turning jaded.
accidentally killed his father figure, who sold his body. despite this, he holds no grudge toward him and deeply regrets this.
he was chased out by the other mercenaries, since then he lived by himself till meeting the band of the hawk. sadly, he did not value them as he should have.
his relationship with griffith is far too complicated. as his closest peer, he only wished to be recognized as his friend and wound up leaving them in order to become worthy of standing at his side.
griffith’s betrayal and the eclipse scarred him more than his previous experiences, making him realize that he lost all that he loved.
used to be very angry and revenge-starved, now he has mellowed out. he seems tired, sadder than before.
however, he has grown more open toward his new companions and deeply values them. he is more welcoming than before, though he is quite drained and can’t quite denote more than a weak smile.
he loves casca very much and now wants to focus on saving her, rather than killing griffith.
currently with his new merry group in elfheim to save casca.
also he has a huge sword. that’s all. he’s still sad.

so some of my thoughts on berserk
as much as i love guts and casca and wish them a good future, the said "good future" is almost impossible. casca's mind problem is one thing, but guts... oh boy, that's an even bigger issue. his mind is constantly fighting with the hatred and the armour is destroying his body. and its effects are already quite prominent, while guts has used the armour like... 4-5 times? i'm too lazy to check, but the point is not many times. deep wounds, that will probably never heal, are another sweet addition to the pack.
back to casca: i'm going to ignore that ugly fairy fan-service dress and pretend it doesn't exist. we're on a cliffhanger, but... i don't really see her coming back as our casca. i love her character, but we have to admit, miura isn't kind to her when it comes to showing how badass she is. just seeing guts is a bad trigger for her, then what seeing the "real" griffith would do? she worshipped him. she regressed the memory of eclipse because she couldn't take it. and i think this will keep on repeating itself. those events have such strong impact on her that overcoming them may be too much for her. i didn't expect that after reaching elfheim they would bonk her on the head and she would be like "yeah guys, let's kick griffith's ass!", so i'm really wondering what direction miura will take. her going back to elaine state would be heart-breaking but i can see it happening. her wish might be to stay in a state where eclipse never happened. while guts is pushed forward by his hartred, casca would rather live in denial.
let's also not forget that brands are permanent and even after death they won't be able to rest, as they will get dragged to hell. so need to find solution to that too if you want a moderately happy ending. i wonder, would the brands disappear if the one who branded them was killed? that's another mystery added to the list.
another thing is the fight with griffith which guts seeks. how do you even approach griffith at this point? he's pretty much sealed in his fortress with an army of demons and knights as well as thousands of stairs, waiting to be wed to princess duck and to gain his kingdom of dreams. i wonder if that will satisfy him. i always find it interesting to watch someone fulfill their ambition, only to realise they don't have anything else left. what will he do? find another one? make the whole world his kingdom? hope we'll see someday.
back to the fight... who can actually be considered good and bad here? from even our, readers', perspective it's hard to say, but i personally see guts being in the right of wanting to avenge his friends. but if you look at the situation from the perspective of the common berserk folk? a big, scary, dark guy is aiming to kill their saviour, their hawk of light who finally brought peace upon the lands. they are willing to turn the blind eye to the horrors of demons, because one, that's convenient, two, out of fear, three, sonia's a good orator. anyways, even if guts were to somehow even get close to griffith and swing his sword at him, the whole populace will treat him like a monster and chase him with spears and torches. speaking of which, let's be real. as amazing as guts is, i don't think he's even close to femto's level. that guy can manipulate dimensions man, you ain't gonna cut that, nuh-uh. maybe if you behelit-up your sword, but then it would look so goddamn ugly, so please don't. also, killing any of the god hand is quite hard, seeing as skull knight has been trying that for some time with little success.
speaking of skull knight! if he didn't have to be such a drama queen and mysterious adversary of coolness, he could've prevented the whole eclipse from happening. but nooo, fate-shmate, destiny-shmestiny. you're bad at your job man.
on a sidenote, flashback about skull knight would be cool. could distract us from the pain, haha.
okay, i guess that's all i have today. this is a mix of my predictions and thoughts. if anyone wants to add something feel free! i lack friends to discuss berserk, so anyone willing is appreciated. also let’s hope miura comes back soon with another chapter that will make us cry a lot.

A necessary talk of what's happening in Fantasia
Berserk 357 shows the Cycle of Fantasia is free of interpretation at this point. This arc is about expanding territories for Griffith and recovering from trauma and healing wounds Guts and Casca.
Since this part of the arc is mainly focused on Griffith, we'll try to determine what makes Griffith a character out of charts.
We all know how Griffith got his powers and the abilities he has now ( extreme divine light that purifies the demon state of a being, can submit anything and anyone to his will and charms, creating an army based on trust and confidence, not fear of death, he is still able to transform into Femto, King of Demons and fifth kin of the Hand of God as seen at the end of the Holy Demon War ), but he isn't using them for any purpose but to maintain his kingdom in shape, out of any danger. But once again, like Laban said, "expanding our territory abd maintaining it are two separate things". The army of Griffith can just spread its wings anywhere from now on, thanks to the power of Griffith to course through rings of ancient standing stones. He can land anywhere he wants, this including Efheim, where Guts and his travelling party are sejourning.
We are not experiencing fillers with the most recent chapters but rather the most interesting part of the manga with Casca's awakening. We are actually witnessing the expansion of Griffith's kingdom.
Griffith stated at the end of the Conviction Arc that he longer cares for Guts' person, he yet went for him and grabbed Casca in his arms, triggering a bloodloss form her chest ( parallel between this and the eclipse ), so there is still a way that Griffith comes to Guts in Elfheim, not especially for Guts himself but for the witches present out there, forming an assemblee of powerful individuals. Each one of them represents a possible threat, and we've been seeing Griffith eliminating all eventual threats up until now, this including Flora, Schierke's mistress who died in her burning house because Griffith saw her as a potential threat. The idea is that magic has evolved since Fantasia's beginning to the point where it becomes the main source of power around the world, not brute force anymore.
Griffith imposes trust and obediance as much as leadership and fear all around this new world by allowing Sonia, the one who recruits( and who almost got Schierke with her in Griffith's army...), to use the ring of ancient standing stones, getting her anywhere she wants, recruiting all sorts of allies.
The story also evovled to the point where wishing the Griffith we now know about is wrong, because this is neither Griffith from the Golden Age nor Femto. This is Reborn Griffith, and his only desire is to create the greatest, highest , most prestigious kingdom ever. He cannot die and is regarded as the man who brings a home for the refugees ( of people escaping a plague spread by the Hand of God... ), who unites all races into one group, one population, and he's seen as someone people can trust into providing protection on the behalf of a better world, and this is the single, most amazing character developpment I have ever witnessed. He can still be seen as the traitor of the band of the hawk because this is the choice that led into this situation, but he also is the master of manipulation, and not just people , but also manipulation of a world and a story.
Griffith will go as an eternal saviour while Guts will remain a bloody criminal seen by everyone as the plague Griffith caused, even while he's also searching for a bit of redemption by entering a safe location in Fantasia and wishing for nothing but the well-being of the woman he cherishes.
Later on, it's safe to assume that Griffith and Guts will meet, but once again, the hawk will remain an unreachable target for the beast of the darkness. Their fight in Casca's dreamland was a possible foreshadow of a real fight to come.
Concerning Casca's dream, and more precisely the molent she woke up, Miura wrote another tragedy no one thought about ( I guess... ), which showcases the trauma Casca went through which main trigger is Guts ( as seen in the panel of the last time they were showed in the manga, someth along the lines of chap 355 in which we can see Casca losing it and screaming while she perceives the behelits-like heads behind the shadow of Guts walking towards her ). This begs the question which the upcoming chapters will answer: can Casca even live with Guts if he will always remind her of the source of her trauma? Or does she have to find a way to live alone, leaving behind every friends and lover who took care of her for years while she was unable to act by herself? We can only theorize for the time being.

Irvine da manforte dall'alto all'armata.
