I play harvest moon like it's my job with 3 tabs of spreadsheets open and handwritten notes. I managed to get max friendship with everyone by year 3 now I'm wandering around trying to boost my depressed child's self-confidence lol

Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Is there anything specific you would like to see with Daryl content-wise? I've got most of a reader insert one-shot done around the scientific method. Without giving away too much, it's basically some mishaps leading up to a confession. I just can't decide what kind of fluff I want to use in the conclusion.

If there is something particular you'd like to see or a specific prompt, feel free to drop that as well. I'm in a Daryl mood at the moment.

#i love where i live. at all times of the year there's always some ancient simple thing that direct-hits the timeless human experience button #me in the wintertime: wow for thousands of years we have huddled in shelters and put wood on the fire and thought about spring #me in the spring: wow for thousands of years someone has gone out and tapped the first tree of the season and saved up the sap #me in the summer: wow for thousands of years somebody has weeded squash here. beans even #me in the fall: i have GOT to be surrounded by corn so i can feel exactly the way im supposed to at this time. in this place #like it's not my ancestral experience. im not from here. we were in abruzzo until like eighty years ago. they dont have corn there #but at this time in this place there is corn and there has always been corn in this place. and i get to experience that. how COOL #at this time in this place there are maple trees and eastern white pines and there have been those trees #since as long and longer as there have been humans to look at them here. how COOL #harvest technology changes. populations change peacefully and then forcefully . the climate changes and is changing now #but for now. and for a time before me. there's corn here. and everyone who was here walked around in the corn #and if we are lucky then five hundred years from now someone can still plant and stand in and listen to the rustle of the corn

The Harvest Bat

The Harvest Bat has a diet as diverse as its color palette, feasting on as large a range of fruits as they can get their claws on. Harvest bats don’t just eat fruits, either, but have also been seen feasting upon various roots and vegetables. In fact, harvest bats got their name from the harvest season, and any crop that gets harvested during this time is one that you might find a curious harvest bat feeding on.

Harvest bats range in size as well, but they’re notable for being a fairly large species on average with most adults reaching the size of the largest flying foxes - and sometimes even larger! While their large size might be off-putting to some, the harvest bat is extremely friendly. It doesn’t take much of an offering to get a harvest bat to perch on your arm while it munches on whatever fruit you’ve given it (and it won't mind some pets, either).

Another reason that the harvest bats are named as such is due to the fact that they’re only seen in the open during the harvest season. This isn’t to say that the bats are unseen throughout the rest of the year, but they’re much more seclusive. Outside of the harvest season, these bats retreat to large cave systems where they spend most of their time. It is believed that the bats switch to a more insectivorous diet during this time, and the harvest season is a time for the bats to stock up on energy for the year. Studies on this behavior are limited as the bats are hard to track once they retreat for the year.

anyone who likes stardew/harvest moon style games

roots of pacha is the fucking best

holy shit. So good.

It does something really different and interesting with what's become an over saturated genre. And. Amazingly. It has an actually pretty fun and not annoying fishing mini-game. And a little rhythm game to tame animals.

#I hope it takes off as well as stardew did but i doubt it #i know stardew kinda hit a lucky streak since no harvest moon games had been good for a while when it came out #there was the whole split with story of seasons and harvest moon and all that #and they weren't pc games anyway #and now the market is FLOODED with often pretty shoddy and cheap imitations trying to cash in #or genuine but newbie attempts with little in the way of unique gameplay or ideas #but roots of pacha is giving me all the first time playing stardew vibes #from way back before shane and emily could be romanced #i have nothing against games that do the exact same thing as harvest moon or stardew - i love them #but i like it when they have something different they focus on as a primary thing #like is it more combat focused or more about running a business or more about animals or more about brewing potions #add in a unique aesthetic and setting? top notch

It's kinda sad to know a good handful of people who've played Stardew Valley haven't played (or heard of) Harvest Moon. Maybe it's just a generational thing, but whenever I've gotten my friends into SDV, I always ask if they know Harvest Moon first. Literally always no.

ANYWAYS if you like Stardew Valley, please check out the Story Of Seasons line (the new name for Harvest Moon games), the Harvest Moon games before DS, or Harvest Moon A New Beginning (3DS)

OR if you like the fighting in SDV as well as the farming bits, I've heard the Rune Factory series is pretty good :D

I just wanted to doodle some HM/SoS OCs of mine. I made them for some collabs (the sisters for a collab comic and Beryl for a RP thing on DA)... but as collabs consisting of mostly teens often do, those kinda fizzled out haha

Even if the stories I created them for don't exist any more, I want to include them in some sort of story in the future, since I'm really fond of them~

#i think i've redrawn flor and kathy before (if i remember right) but it's the first time i've redrawn beryl #beryl is actually a mary and gray fankid design that i ended up repurposing for the rp lol #i of course changed some stuff while taking account the rp's setting but she still could very much pass as gray and mary's kid haha #OC #original #harvest moon #story of seasons #Flor #Florence #Kathy #Kathryn #Beryl #flor is a doctor kathy is a cafe owner and beryl is a blacksmith #funnily enough all of them are islanders #the comic collab was inspired by IoH and SS #i think the story even started similarly?#the exception was that the island actually did have some residents already living on it #flor and kathy were among the native islanders #the rp meanwhile had more than one island and all had already established towns and stuff #(i don't know if IoH and SS influenced it in any way but if they did it was a very minor influence)#She was on an island called Nomie and I think she was a blacksmith in training at her grandpa's (back to the gray and mary fankid roots lol

new reference page for my SoS1 farmer Kannie (Annie/Minori)! it's more focused on her ~early beginnings~ as a farmer.

I always envisioned her to be a HM:AP fankid SOMEHOW and chose Chase/Molly originally bc I wanted to marry Chase LOL but then I found out about Toby and boom it all works out.

Still, it's fun to see what would've been, hence the variations B)
