you weren’t quite sure how you ended up here. at the bar. with louis.

actually, that’s not true. you knew exactly how it happened. you ended up meeting louis. bit of a fluke, really, as he was doing a meet and greet, and you happened to walk by. curiosity getting the best of you, you stood in line, happy to have a very quick, brief chat with him, a warm smile, and a handshake goodbye.

what you never expected, or really understood why, was upon walking away and exiting the building, to have a hand land on your shoulder in an attempt to stop you.

and what you expected even less, was to be staring back at oli, a smile on his face, shyness creeping up on his features, as you looked at him, confused, “sorry, did i forget anything ?”

“no, no,” he was quick to get out, “m’actually here to ask you something.”

and that’s the story of how you ended up in a bar with louis. seems you had piqued his interest, and he sent his friend over to tell you so. and invite you to join them for drinks later on.

which, after a few drinks in your system, the conversation seemed to flow nicely. something you were slightly shocked about, considering you were incredibly nervous, and didn’t think you’d have much in common with him.

but the more you banter, and the more time you spend with louis, the more that seems to fade. but only slightly. it was louis for fuck sake.

“s’hard to hear, wanna go outside ?” louis asks against your ear, making you nod back at him, before following the path he’s created towards to exit.

as soon as the door closes, the booming bass gets blocked away, the quietness of the nighttime making you realize how loud it really was in there.

“that’s better,” louis sighs contently, as if he was reading your mind. “alright if i smoke while we’re out here ?”

“of course,” you smile, hoisting yourself up on a ledge to sit, while louis paces slowly, fiddling with his lighter, taking the first drag. which based on the smell, was not a regular cigarette like you had originally imagined.

“want some ?” he laughs, “see you eyeing it. don’t have to be shy, can just ask.”

“sorry,” you bite your lip, heat rising to your cheeks, a bit embarrassed that you’d been caught staring. “yeah, i think i’d like some,” you nod, hoping that the weed would help to loosen you up a little more than the alcohol had been.

“here,” louis smiles, stepping up towards you, hand extended to you to pluck the joint from between his fingers. “and there’s nothing to apologize for.”

“sorry,” you say again, a giggle rising from your chest, as more heat prickles your cheeks. christ, you were so awkward. “think m’just a bit nervous around you.”

louis leans against the wall that you’re sitting on, staying fairly close to you, without actually touching, his eyes looking up to catch yours. “i make you nervous ?”

you nod, handing him the joint back, starting to feel the prickly high, thankful that your nervousness was waning because of it. “i don’t know how to be around you. m’not really sure why you’d get oli to come fetch me in the first place,” you chuckle. “feels like i don’t really belong here.”

louis splutters around his puff, coughing some smoke out of his lungs, shaking his head, as he catches his breath, “hope i’m not making you feel that way. i want you here,” he murmurs, hand tentatively landing on your knee, flicking his eyes to yours again, making sure the touch was okay.

“why on earth would you want me ?” you laugh, “nothing special about me.”

“now that’s not true at all,” louis tuts at you, handing you the joint again, letting you finish it off. “so far, you’ve been way more interesting to talk to than any of the idiots in there,” he hums, thumb pointing back over his shoulder, towards the door to the bar. “you’re also much prettier than any of them,” he adds a bit shyly, looking for your reaction again.

but he’s met with a simple chuckle, roll of your eyes and a slightly playful huff, “you brought a bunch of guys with you, i’d be slightly offended if you didn’t think i was prettier than them,” you answer sarcasm dripping from your tone.

“don’t take compliments well do you ?” he mutters to himself, making a show of pondering for a moment, “not gonna make my job easy, if i want to flirt with you.”

you can feel your eyes bulge out of you head, your heart stopping cold for a moment. did you just hear that correctly ? “fuck, how stoned are you ?”

louis laughs, shaking his head, taking a step away from the wall to stand in front of you, “gonna make it real hard, i see.”

“stop saying shit like that,” you giggle bashfully, hiding your face in your hands, “why would you even want to flirt with me ?”

a moment later, you can feel louis’ hands wind their way around your wrists, pulling your hands gently from your face. the soft brush of his fingertips against your sensitive skin sending a shiver down your arms. his eyes meet yours, a smile quirking up the corner of his mouth, “there she is. beautiful girl. might not have known you very long,” he chuckles breathily as it’s literally been a matter of hours, “but i’ve already learned that you’re incredibly kind, sarcastic, sweet, playful, happy,” he coos, “all things that make me want to know more. that make me curious to see who you are.”

he’s taken your breath away. he took the time to watch you, to see you interact with others, with himself, to find out what kind of person you actually are. and he’s managed to do it in a matter of hours. while drinking and smoking, mind you. something that others haven’t been able to do in much longer timeframes. and for some reason, your trauma filled brain is just not buying it.

“m’just being a good person,” you shrug, “there’s nothing to it really, nothing to admire,” you reply, watching louis’ eyes roll again.

“m’gonna have to work real hard,” he coos quietly.

when did he get so close ? when did you heart start beating so fast ? when did you start feeling his breath fanning across your skin ? when did his fingertips reach for your cheek in a soothing glide ? when did you become so mother fucking enamoured ?

“wanna have the opportunity to get to know you more,” he murmurs, mouth so close to yours. “and to kick the ass of whoever made you unable to see how much there really is to admire.”

“louis,” you puff out, eyes locked on his, breath caught in your throat. he knew just what to say. and maybe for once, you actually wanted to give into it. maybe it was your opportunity to give someone a real chance. maybe, just maybe, he’d be the one to break down that wall of protection you’ve so eloquently built around yourself.

“will you let me ?” he whispers, his mouth even closer. so much so, you can almost feel the movement of his lips as he speaks. “will you let me get to know you more ?”

“m’scared to get hurt,” you admit quietly, your gaze leaving his, flicking down in slight shame. “what if you regret getting to know me ?”

louis shakes his head, eyes softening as he looks over your features, because now he really wants to hurt whoever it was that hurt you so badly. his fingertips glide along your jaw to your chin, getting your attention again. “how could i possibly like you less, if i know you more ?”

you bite your lip, a warm heat spreading through you, forcing a smile on your lips. one you couldn’t hold back even if you tried. “those are song lyrics,” you giggle quietly.

“yeah, so what ?” he laughs softly, his nose fluttering against your own.

“so, i hate that it’s working,” you bite your lip, resting your forehead against his.

louis hums happily, eyes fluttering shut, the hand that was resting on your knee, now working its way slowly up your thigh to your hip, “really wanna kiss you right now.”

“i won’t stop you.”

summary: Todoroki is a disaster when it comes to trying to do the speaking thing, but not with you

Shoto had never really liked interviews or journalists for that matter. He always felt too awkward talking about himself and he’d never liked reporters either. He felt awkward talking about himself, and no matter what he said his interviews ended up in ‘Shoto Todoroki not knowing how to talk for X minutes” compilations.

So needless to say he was not looking forward to this interview. He looked at the setup stage with a grimace, everything was ready now he was just waiting for the journalist who would grill him. Some new woman he’d never met before, he wasn’t looking forward to it.

“You look like you’d rather have a monster bust in here than get up on this stage,” Todoroki looked to his side and saw you’d crept upon him while he wasn’t paying attention. He’d seen you around the set a few times now, you must be one of the producers or something. He gave you a small smile.

“You can say that again, I hate interviews like these,” he said gesturing around you to everything going on. You smiled.

“But I’m assuming you don’t have a choice in the matter?” you asked. And he nodded

”My agent want’s me to seem more open and approachable,” you laughed at that

“Maybe your agent should find a new angle, or you find a new agent,” he smiled. It was very kind of you to try and ease his nerves like this.

“It looks like your journalist is running late, can I grab you a coffee or a tea, water?’ you offered.

“Tea would be nice- oh but you don’t have to-” it was too late you’d turned and headed off to grab him his drink not knowing what else to do he followed. “You really don’t have to,” he said. You waved your hand dismissively already pouring the steaming water into a cup.

“Nonsense, It’s not a problem at all, Jasmen or Black?” you asked.

“Jasmen, and thank you,” he said accepting the cup from you when you offered it to him.

“You know if you don’t like filmed interviews you could almost certainly get the producers to wave the cameras, Especially now this whole thing is for a blog post, the cameras are just here for a bonus video, nothing big.” you said.

“It’s not just filmed content it’s all interviews, I’m just bad at being charming under pressure, I can never say the right thing when I know I’m being documented,” he explained. You nodded sympathetically.

“I guess I can see that, and for what it’s worth I’m finding you very charming right now,” you teased. Shoto smiled to himself, a deep satisfaction flooding him. He hadn’t been trying to impress you, but he did really want you to like him and he was glad you did.

“I get it I guess, I mean it’s not like you became a hero to talk about yourself right?” you shrugged. Shoto thought about it.

“True, but to be fair I didn’t have much of a choice in becoming a hero,” he said bitterness creeping into his tone.

“What do you mean?” you asked. He took a sip from his cup as he tried to find the words.

“Well, I was my father’s pride he wouldn’t have let me quit if I had tired,” he said.

“That’s not what I meant,” you said shaking your head. “You’re 26 Todoroki, you’re indipendintly wealthy, plenty of heroes retire at your age, or at least reduce their work hours but you haven’t, so why are you motivated enough to go through the stuff you hate like this?” you asked. He froze, he’d never thought about it. He was a hero becuase it was was he was good at, because if he didn’t people would die and get hurt if he didn’t, but that wasn’t even the real reason there were pleant of young capable heroes springing up every day, the world would be fine with out him. It wasn’t the money or the notoriety either. He swallowed thickly. You looked at him silently, waiting for an answer. He knew he had to tell you the truth, you wouldn’t accept anything less.

“When I was 19 there was a fire in an apartment building and I was one of the first responders, I ended up pulling this little girl from the wreckage, she was only seven years old, and she told me that I was her favorate hero because I was a good person and a good hero,” he said pausing to think if he should continue.

“You told that story once online,” you said nodding.

“Theres more,” he said shakeily, and you waited patiently until he contiued. “She died later tht night. Smoke inhaleation, I feel like I’d be betraying her if I quit, and waisted all the potential she thought I had,” he admitted.

“I’m sorry for bringing it up, that sounds incredibly painful,” you said sympathetically. Todoroki shook his head,

“No, Please don’t feel bad about it, I wouldn’t have said it if it was too personal,” he said smiling at you softly. Shoto didn’t know what it was about you that he found so calming, but he found it easy to talk to you. The time slipped away from him as he told you more and moer about himself, he almost forgot what he was supposed to be doing here, until that is a frantic producer ran up to the both of you.

“There you are we were supposed to start an hour ago!” Shoto winced assuming the angry man was yelling at him, but you calmly steped in front of him and spoke.

“Relax I got everything I need for the article, so we ended up talking by the concessions stand instead of on that hideous couch, you’ll still get your scoop.” you said. Todoroki stiffened.

“You were the journalist supposed to interview me?” he asked. You smiled at him shyly,

“Sorry, After what you said i didn’t want you to clam up around me,” you explained. He returned your smile, a light blush dusting his cheeks.

“It’s okay,” he said happily. For the first time he felt like an interview had gone well. And he knew that the next time he was interviewed he’d have to see you again.

As it turned out you were right, he did have enough power to pull strings with the people incharge. He said he wouldn’t do a live interview unless you were there and suddenly you were available when previously he'd been told that they couldn't promise anything.

Shoto twitched uncomfortably on the cream-colored leather chair. At least this time Midoriya was with him, taking some of the pressure off. He was still nervous, this would be live. that meant no time to cut things if he met up.

“It’ll be okay,” Izuku tired to reasure him but it did little to calm his nerves. You breezed on the set easily taking your seat across from them and smiled warmly.

“Hey, Todoroki It’s nice to see you again,” you greeted. He smiled shyly at you. You leaned back in your chair casually, “how’ve you been?”

Just like that he found himself talking candidly with you, he almost didn’t notice when Midoriya jumped in or when the cameras started rolling. It was just nice to talk to you. He was amazed that you could cure him of his awkwardness like that.

He lingered after the interview ended and you went off to your dressing room. Todoroki just knew he had to see you again. He knocks lightly on your dressing room door and waited for you to call “come in” before entered you turned, your shirt half off and gasped when you saw him.

“Sorry I thought you were someone else,” you explained. Quickly re clothing yourself. But the damage was done, he could feel his body heat up dramatically, that brief flash of your naked skin had sent him off the rails.

“I-I uhm,” he stammered and you walked over to him.

“Sorry about that, i didn’t mean to fluster you,” you said noting the tent in his pants. Just from seeing you in a bra.

“You-you’re very pretty,” he stammered. “I-I wanted to ask you on a date,” he stammered. You smiled at him warmly.

“I’d like that Shoto, if you’d like we can have a date right now,” you offered. He didn’t follow, then you took your shirt off and his cheeks engulfed in flames as he caught on. Shoto nodded and fumbled with the door locking it before pouncing on you.

You looped your arms around his neck and kissed him sweetly, and ran your fingers through his soft hair, you’d be lying if you said you hadn’t been thinking of something like this happening for a while now.

Shoto fumbled with his clothes and gently pressed you down on the counter of the dressing room once you were both naked. “I’m sorry, please tell me if this is moving too fast,” he panted against your neck as he kissed whatever part of your body he could reach.

“It’s fine Todoroki, please don’t stop,” you said

“Shoto, call me Shoto,” he corrected.

“Shoto please,” you breathed. It felt like his head was spinning hearing you moan his name like that.

Shoto had had his fair share of one-night stands, but this was different this was something about this, soft and tender, the start of beautiful.

He laid you down on the counter trailing his hands over your clothed hips as his mouth moved against yours, his tongue slipping into your mouth.

"Shoto," you moaned your hands running through his multicolored hair. you sounded so pretty moaning his name like that. "did you lock the door?"

He hated leaving you but quickly he got up locking the room, by the time he'd turned around back to you, you'd shuffled your skirt off leaving you in just your underwear.

Shoto couldn't help himself, he fell to his knees in front of you placing your ankles around his shoulders slowly dragging your panties down your legs he looked up at you, waiting for permission. you were trembling biting down on your knuckle to keep yourself quiet.

"yes," you mumbled around your finger. Shoto leaned forward gently spreading your lower lips before darting his tongue out and tasting the moister already clinging to your folds. Your thighs clamped around his head locking him in place, your free hand flying to his hair, and Shoto was more than happy to be manhandled by you. He wasn't planning on leaving until your fluids were dripping down his face.

your hips moved rhythmically against his face as his tongue swirled around your clit and sucking on the bud lightly bringing his hand up to finger you gently, feeling your velvety walls gushing around his fingers. your thighs clamped around his head until you came a low moan escaped you despite yourself.

"let me take you out to dinner tomorrow night then I'll make love to you," he promised. and almost on queue, there was a loud knocking at the door, and your producer barked through the door asking if you'd seen him.

"N-No." you called back, and kissed him again

i think of pix to not be the oldest, but the wisest and one of the most experienced. he became king at a young age, and was brought up to be king from even younger

he’s a prophet and a religious man, though he doesnt worship any god. the concept of death is deep-rooted in pixandrian culture (canon). he is religious in a very spiritual way, believing in the higher power of life and death [and also demons because those are real on empires so like]

pixandrians have depictions of life and death, but they’re often abstract and vary across generations. pix subscribes to none of them, choosing to seek guidance from the whims of fate as they are.

he’s a lot less stoic than people assume, and while he’s far from disrespectful, has an air of mischief to him. he fuckin loves elaborate pranks (canon) and gets a little frustrated when the jokes played on him are too simple or expected (also canon)

his prophetic-ness isnt express, and he doesnt get visions so much as having really good intuition. if someone’s gonna die, he can just *tell*.

the way rulers are chosen in pixandria is through a not-quite-monarchy. there is a royal group of people, but they’re not a family, and simply a group in the church. the higher you rank in the church, the more likely you are to become ruler. people with stronger intuition and leadership skills are of higher rank, and there are children who are sometimes raised in order to be a high-ranking religious figure

in terms of church, there isnt quite one in traditional terms. families are encouraged to ‘worship’ through family and empire-wide traditions. each family has their own set of beliefs that often overlap with that of their friends, and the empire has its own common traditions—such as lighting candles when someone dies.

this is more of a general empiresSMP headcanon, but only rulers have multiple lives. its kinda like warrior cats but like. theres multiple religions and they all work differently. once someone rules over an area, the respawning mechanic is bestowed upon them, and that’s often the way people discover who the fates/gods/magics have chosen as leader (can be gruesome unfortunately).

this is a common headcanon i like; all the rulers have ‘past lives’ (like scott’s brotherhood with xornoth) but lots of them stem from other servers they’ve been on. as for pix, he has dreams of solitude—yet not loneliness. he dreams of a world in which he’s alone and in which he rules over nothing, but he is content here. he has farms and buildings and a museum—yet no one to inhabit them. in this world he knows a lot about the world, yet knows there is so much he still has to learn. its peaceful.

he doesnt call others enemies a lot, and believes everyone deserves a fair shot at life no matter their intentions. he’s kind and forgiving, but takes mistakes and wrongdoings very seriously

he feels the need to take other people’s problems upon himself, and tends to easily forgive everyone but himself. he holds himself deeply responsible for his mistakes under the notion of self-improvement

he tends to get along with people easily, and will try his best to make others feel welcome.

The Love Ideology: What is love?

Trying to define love is a bloody tiring mission encumbered by vagueness, contradictions and inconsistencies. So I’m not going to attempt to define the word but rather look at some of the different shapes love comes in within interpersonal relationships.

I want to look at the different types of love, the function of each, the power dynamics that exist and their relevance as a basis to share my speculative thoughts on the wider implications of love in later posts.

Loving is touted as a necessity, a source of joy and an objectively good thing for humanity. I’m not so sure I agree and I think a counter-argument against love is useful in redirecting our focus to more urgent issues and developing critical thought, or at the very least being more conscious of the way you love (if you must).

I briefly look at self love, romantic love, platonic love and familial love from a mainstream (western) perspective since that’s what's most prevalent and all I know anyway. Love is not confined to interpersonal relationships and critique of it can be extended to sentiments like unwaveringly love for homeland (patriotism), love for a public figure (idolatry), love for an ideology (cultism).

You’ll find that in every case where love is referred to, it could easily be replaced by a more revealing synonym.

Self love

I know your familiar with this one, we rave on about it all the time. It’s being content with who you are, knowing your “worth” (you see the capitalist undertones too right?). Some call it a radical self-acceptance and according to John Kim the ‘life coach’, self love looks like this:

“When you get to a place where you like yourself, the action of loving yourself will come more naturally. You’ll have non-negotiables. You won’t tolerate certain behaviour from others. You’ll seek less approval. Your friendships will be less lopsided. You won’t have as many holes to fill within you. You’ll be more gentle with yourself, more forgiving. You’ll believe you deserve more, better, different. You’ll finally stop breaking the promises you’ve made with you. And the relationship you have with yourself will improve. “

Ah so, curing all the problems caused by love (and capitalism) with more.. love? Think about why you do what you do. You compromise because you love, tolerate because you love, seek approval because you want love, your love is quantifiable and isn’t always reciprocated, love told you you need it feel whole, to love you must forgive, you deserve love.

Is loving yourself enough in a capitalist world that measures your social worth on how full your cup of love is? (think about the [profitable] factors that determine this too). Will the inferiority complex completely dissipate? If you walk out on the expectations of this here capitalist world perhaps, but abandoning the pursuit of love might be a quicker route.

“You can’t love somebody else until you love yourself“ is a widely known cliché typically used in a romantic context. Some critique the adage saying self-love isn’t actually a precondition for loving others, clinical psychologist Leon F. Seltzer proposes a better alternative: “To deepen your love and acceptance of another, first develop love and acceptance for yourself.” Interesting. I still think theres a semblance of truth in the former that could easily be extrapolated to other types of love.

See loving the Other can only be done by identifying parts of yourself within them and seeing qualities in them that you like. It’s impossible to imagine what loving something entirely disconnected from us looks like because everything is in some way connected to self. We extend ourselves to the object of our love so that by loving the Other we are also loving ourselves. Kierkegaard calls this ‘self-love’. Loving your partner is loving self, loving your friend is loving self, loving your family is loving self, loving your nation is loving self, loving the environment is loving self, loving an ideology is loving self; no matter how selfless or sacrificial the nature. Thus, I have made the cheeky decision to sub them all under this title.

Romantic love

The most sought after, most regulated, most distracting and arguably the most delusional of loves. Romance is where we can write our own fiction and relies on our own imagination to create a world where it can function. Driven by our libidinal desires, we seek to conquer the heart of another. Our romantic interests becoming personified virtues who make us feel like we’ve never felt before (until they don’t).

It is here we are forced to learn a gender and organise our desires around them. Our bizarre sex-sentimentality makes romantic love a safe space to be completely uninhibited. Eroticism is confined to the couple as is building a life project (cohabitation, economic merging, child-rearing).

We have a set criteria of what we look for in a partner (our fantasy), too busy setting up our Tinder to question why our list is identical to the next persons and what is informing these ~ preferences ~. The success of romantic interactions are contingent upon the degree to which projective identification is continually effective, that is when a person projects their fantasy onto another so that they feel inclined or pressured to fall in line with the projective fantasy. In romance, this is typically one of amour passion where by confessing your feelings the other now hopefully joins you in this romantic fantasy.

We must then commit to this person, overcommit then merge. The merging process frequently comes with the dissolution of autonomy and boundaries because complete trust in the other is a requirement. We simultaneously create rules and install dependencies to solidify this union because subconsciously we know that love is not enough to keep two together.

Unpaid labour is an intrinsic part of romantic love and it’s usually gendered - maintaining a healthy relationship requires work (cishet women and those taking the role of woman/femme/more domesticised doing most of the labour). So is it that we enjoy working 9-5 + unpaid overtime or do the promised benefits of coupledom outweigh the cons?

Those who opt for singledom and see no sense in romantic love are considered immature or are diagnosed with the infamous disorder the therapists call ‘fear of intimacy’. Those who are single by circumstances are told that “the one“ will soon come and/or are often pitied. The social worth of an individual increases when they are in a couple as the partner is pretty much considered personal property.

Unions formed on the basis of romantic love are the only ones that are eligible to sign a contract with the state (think about why) and in exchange are afforded a multitude of benefits from adoption rights and tax deductions to immigration and residency for partners from other countries. These unions, called marriage, are usually accompanied by an expensive celebration party where friends and family are expected to attend and bring gifts.

So what is the purpose of romantic love and why do we desire it? Lynn Paramore sums it up.

“Romantic love is not based on companionship, but on the feeling of being desired. This kind of love appears to give us the opportunity, just as money does, to constantly remake ourselves, to project new version of our lives. So at my best, I believe in not dismissing inconvenient PoVs and double-checking, and the main point of replying them was to leave an alternate opinion for future readers hence no point in continuing after that had been done.

At my worst damn inf Fe makes it hard to ignore input even if I don’t believe it’s justified (except when it fails to pick them up - as inferior functions are wont to be its either sluggish or AHH with little inbetween. ) and that lil 8 fix of mine doesn’t want to “stand down quietly”.

So I ask a few reasonable, knowledgeable, non-troll person, one of which said “Hm, could be, you anecdote alot which X type also does”

I believed this was better accounted for by simple ol’ Si and w4-self revealing tendencies, but, how could I know for sure? I never denied having a pronounced 4wing and fix, but I thought that sufficiently explaining their perceived discrepancies insofar as I found them consistent with reality and indeed all data collected so far. Too much would just be filed away as “inf Te” as a blanket term, the way any sign that [fan favorite character] is ST rather than INFJ is “inferior Se” though that supposed “inferior” is 80% of what she does and all moments claimed for F or N are the sort of situations where anyone would display emotion or philosophizing and what intuition they display is distinctly Ne instead.

Like the proverbial man who dreamt of being a frog I couldn’t cast the doubt from my mind and went over reinterpreting my thought patterns throughout the day. How do I know I’m NOT X type? After all my idea of and criteria for type are based on the definitions I extracted from various mbti sources when first familiarzing myself with the topic… how do I know I understood it correctly? How can ANY human correctly understand a definition if they have to deduce/reconstruct/guess what the other meant with their own flawed mind?

(At this point the non-INs in the audience might be rolling their eyes)

I still thought my type made the most sense but the person, through trolling in that particular instance, was not alltogether clueless and had some good insights, and also, some ppl agreed with them (theres that Fe again) - I was pretty sure I was in the holographic-panomramic thinking style but I could be wrong, thats a fairly rarely used concept which I simply started using cause I thought it made sense. ENFPs can mistake themselves for introverts. I have been mistaken for extrovert b/c of my lack of filter… but I was pretty sure I was a very pronouncedintrovert and had Fe, and so I went over it over and over again.

They said I didn’t comprehend _ i had some theory as to why they thought the way they did (not just bias against xNFPs but assuming all Ti is like aux Ti. After all, an introverted function as a dominant builds a framework and may be reluctant to accept or need time to withdraw when said framework clashes with reality to the point of needing a full revamping, purportedly resulting in a certain stubbornness particularly if it’s a Ji function. )

but what if I really Didn’t comprehend? Then all my reasoning would be worthless! I dont think I have the skills of an INFP, but what if i misunderstood those? Was a lot of what I’d attributed to Ti just Ne? i thought I had rather typical Ti speech patterns (it was hard to unsee, like my brain used a highly predictable parsing alghorithm to make thoughts into words) but they disagreed and pointed to what they thought was Fi.

I thought that despite all the differences introduced by shared preferences and there were differences between I and the Fi doms I knew. The 9 and the 6 were much more lowkey, non-confrontational than I and way more perceptive in line with how socionics describes Fi as the “Ethics of Relations” and how Nardi calls it an “Inner state of listening/reacting”; I mostly listen to the contents of someone’s words; I’d spot a liar by contradiction or unbeliavable statements, or by deducing what beliefs they are operating from. Feelers supposedly use primarily tone of voice... but I have sure noticed tone of voice a few times, and this is a qualia. I can’t compare what “Fi” or “Ti” feel like without making assumptions of which one I am using.

The 4! INFPs should be the most similar to me, on the other hand, they tend to have a certain...absoluteness in their beliefs and statements in a way I wouldn’t be comfortable with. I’m more hesitant, more relativizing, adding qualifiers etc so bI don’t say anything incorrect.

I don’t mean to bash the INFPs here, they are usually just processing their specific feels and do not mean to imply things about others. (Tumblr INFP: “I, an INFP, experience X.”. Tumblr xxFJ: “Are you saying that other types don’t????? You can’t say that! How self absorbed are you?” Immature Tert Fe User:*distantly feels the same urge toward ,moral condemnation as FJ,but couldn’t care less if INFP offends anyone - settles for calling them a snowflake instead. * TJs and Ti doms: *roll their eyes, half-assedly consider correcting whoever they disagree with but ultimately just keep scrolling*) Of course Team Fe sometimes has a point if the INFP in question is young and/or irresponsible.

Example:

One INFP 4w5: “I be those shallow fake bitches look down on you just because you don’t wear as much makeup. I don’t think anyone who wears makeup can be trusted, unless it’s like,halloween makeup or something like that, they’re just putting up fake faces to be popular.”

Me (let’s say, presumed INTP 5w4): “I dunno... Like I agree that those girls are shallow bitches,if they had spines, they wouldn’ perform arbitrary fake behavior just to be popular.* But not everyone is the same - maybe some people might just wear makeup because they like how it looks. The real problem is people being judged by arbitrary conventions on principle. What does is matter whether someone wears makeup or not? Its a made-up convention with no real reason. It’s none of anyone’s business.”

* for the record I have since realized that there’s nothing bad about wanting to be popular as long as yopu dont harm anyone, and that for some people its genuinely what they want. I was, like, 13. Common (w)4 pitfall I guess.

As you see both I and this middle school friend of mine are expressing 4-ish povs, but I used to think the difference in our reasoning highlighted some differences.

Granted this is more 5w4 vs 4w5 than necessarily Ti vs Fi, Could just be the 5′s general disconnect toward action and desire to “know more first”.

There are 5 INFPs. after all. Mostly sx 5s and as such differentiable from the relatively intense, dramatic sx 4 as long as you’re certain enough that they’re sx. Thinking about how to describe them. More second-guessing and ‘drifting’ than the 4 ones but like them in their analytical nature. A different kind of contemplative. Still reasons distinctlylike an INFP - See, One of them was religious, for example, and I’m pretty sure an INTP would have had more posts about why they were religious or not, though it’s one of the types most likely to be a non-believer, the religious ones tend to have a theological bent and talk about the perfection and incomprehensibility of god, how god is totally logical etc. (Thomas Acquinas is a famous example) - their faith will be an ordered self-consistent system. A bit like that example of copernikus assuming the orbits must be perfectly circular because natture as he understood it would tend toward the most “perfect” forms. I’m not religious and I could likewise talk about that at lenght.

Arguments that convinced me: “This is how these beliefs came from, not an actual god” and “If were made out of single celled organism who die all the time as shed skin cells, how would the rest of them dieing at once be different?” “Even if your religion is true that means many, if not all others are not. So at least all some must be myths. How is your “true” religion different from them?”

Arguments made by famous Te-Fi users: “Occams Razor.” “We can’t disprove a giant sucker on the back of Pluto either, but its no reason to suppose one.”“Belief in god hampers human development and creates dependent, slavish mentality”

That 5!INFP’s attitude toward their belief reminded me more of another Fi dom I know (albeit an ISFP). “Yeah, I know the common objections, but look, it’s what I believe. Don’t come into my house and be a jerk to me about it.” or “[Assholish behavior] is not actually in line with my religion. My religion, and this aspect of it, are actually about love/peace/duty/etc”

If, while conversing, you hit a hard disagreement, that is, an axiom that’s not up for debate, your Fi-dom friend may change the topic/agree to disagree/ “It’s just the way I feel”

[This could apply to other moral or ideological questions religion is just an example; This is not supposed to be about religion it’s just here to illustrate a perceived difference. . I’m not implying all INFPs have the same approach to religion or even have to be religious.]

Another conversation I remember having with them actually on the very subject of Fi vs Fe. IDK how we got to that topic but I mentioned something I initially thought was an enneagram thing (my memory is vague on the details) but I mentioned something like lowkey feeling guilty for receiving praise that I believe was undeserved.

She deemed it a Fe thing and said that for her, as a Fi dom/ fe opposing type, a bit of praise she did not agree with might not cause any reaction at all unless she thought they had a point or otherwise had a reaction from her end, like deciding the criticism was unfair - why should she feel guilty b/c of what someone else says?

Granted that’s just an anecdote, but what am I to do? INFP 5s are not super common. Also I’m not making this decisionbased on any single of these examples but... not even from the “preponderance” so much as to how they can be best explained.

And of course, if I really did get everything wrong after looking into the topic for years, what guarantee is there that I typed any of those people correctly? None, as one of the trolls/claimants correctly pointed out.

After all what I want is the truth, it doesn’t matter what it is. Or at least that is what I strive for as much as human frailty allows. so what if I’m an INFP? INFPs are awesome. I even considered the type early on, I just thougnt INTP fit better especially once I found out about inferior functions. And I have always held that a person has no obligation to follow their “talents”. If I don’t have a “talent” for reason (which isn’t the same as mbti thinking anyways) all the reasons why I believe that it is a good way of life to aim for would still stand. Reason is a method to correct for human error and bias, after all, the error and bias we all have, no matter what Ji function we use.

Type insofar as it can even be said to be a real thing is a classfication of emergent qualities, not a hard measure you can get in an instrument.

As much as I’d want to figure this out, there comes a point where you just have to like step back and put it in context. it’s just a personality test/ little tool to facilitate communication in which “maybe this or that” is more helpful than nothing.

Striving for it despite not being handed talent at birth is all the more worthwhile - and if reason was only for certain kinds of people what’s the point of it? Regardless of what tropes people associate with “science” or “logic”, what they actually are by definition are simple basic methods.

Last but not least there was a moment

Then, my doubt crumbled away to the “ mostly sure, dont think it could be anything else but im not omnicient” levels at which it was before.

What happened? Well, a rare event:

Well, I went outside and talked to people.

I visited my folks, saw new places, got into a few unscripted situations in other words.

I’ve seen one post detailing that INs may mistype because they analyze themselves as a whole, feature in less apparent traits and second-guess their reasoning worrying about bias, noticing what sticks out more than the norm etc. and so on and that may be it in part but I don’t think it’s only this relatively “noble”, too-much-of-a-good-thing mistake.

- It’s a matter about how we are all about ~extrapolating~ from data and using multiple data points and less about decisiveness and practicality. We brood away endlessly trying to come up with interpretations and conceptualizations that makes all the data points fit rather than just going with what they themselves largely seem to suggest.

One good description I once heard is that Intuitives think in networks while Sensors think in puzzle pieces - I went overboard trying to build ever more complex networks instead of going “Yeah, with all the puzzle pieces so far it’s probably this.”.

Sometimes the latter approach can be incomplete and miss game changing interconnections - but just as often, the former gets convoluted and therefore, both uselessly vague and too far removed from the actual data its meant to interpret.

Aaaand, well, almost every sentence I said was “Did you know that...?” or “I think so/ don’t think so because of [observation followed by possible deduction].

Sure, I could be biased in my observation or unconsciously “doing it on purpose to appear a certain way” even if I don’t think I am or care about that, , but some critical mass of “doing it on purpose” would itself be equivalent with 5 (or a 3)

I was a little afraid one time; I reacted by withdrawing and looking at the whole thing as an observatrion and it was a highly temporary thing. And as much as I complain about Fe users playing police, I may have been guilty of one moment of overreacting, unwanted/socially-chiding “help” myself there. (The person perhaps justly called me a know-it-all. They were wrong about one thing but I may have handled it all more constructively) I repeatedly expressed vague undifferentiated preferrences that were closer to analyzing what factors were at work rather than having clear like/dislike reasons readily available. .

I critiqued a TV show (myself and the local INTJ annoying all the non-NTs with our loud, animated critiquing ) and a big factor to being unabvle to enjoy it fully was the lack of High-Concept abstract sci fi content and mostly the lack of consistency - normally a lot of my enjoyment would come from extrapolatinmg and deducing what the world is like and how it, the themes and charactzers “work”, but here I coulnd do that because it was tacked onto a ‘verse it did not fit into. I observed how said INTJ and I reacted to us correcting each other on small things with like a brief thanks or apology & just moving on whilst similar things had gotten annoyed snarks out of our otherwise patient Feeler sister...

The nails in the coffin were those 2 tumblr posts, one about differences in how Fi and low Fe argue (the latter pile including 3 phrases I used verbatim in the last discussion with my SO just hours earlier) and a post by the afore mentioned “resonable poster” about, as she called it “oversharing in soc variants vs soc blinds” though the correct amount of sharing might well be in the eye of the beholder.

But that was the one objection of the troll I didn’t have a non-vague satisfactory reply to, what rly kept me wondering rather than “eh not gonna reinvent the wheel again”, something about “sp/sx woldn’t have long descriptions or emo rants” Apparently they do when they never have to dea with the person again (such as on the internets. )

IDK I did move the description so no one’s forced to read it but lots of peeps have one (This is like... a blogging site??) but the reasons for its existence had more to do with “completionist urges related to then-current obsession (typology)” and “So I like X, bite me.” sort of sentiment than whatever it was they presuposed.

Dear Causal-Deterministic peeps (ENTP, INFP, ISTP, ESFP): Instances of the same behavior can be caused by different causes! Look at this: 2 4 8.

What’s the pattern? - Could be “powers of 4″. Could also be “even numbers” or even “any increasing integer”.

Of course this whole mess is an example of where we H-P folks (INTP, ENFP, ISFP, ESTP) look at everything from multiple angels/Povs, (”Is it like this? Is it lika that? It COULD be seen this other way...”) rather than, well, decide which ones are most relevant here/ “Pick one”. At least the SPs have Se to “just grab one” or whatever it is they do.

Whereas we just stand there speculating XD The ENFPs sorta do it too but in a whole different way/ area of life?

Me: “Either he is nuts or I am nuts because we can’t both be telling the truth!”

Me: Sorry but this is a real dichotomy here for once. If he dun nothing wrong, then I would be wrong for accusing him thus, just as he says..

Might also be why there`s this overlap between ENFPs and Universalists? Though obviously not all ENFPs are universalists and vice versa.

So yeah. Kinda comical in hindsight. I started out all second guess-ey and entertaining both possibilities in parallel but in the end, well, I do think it’s INTP after all, at least, I’d say its the most probable by a considerable margin. Most definitely 5 tho. For all the occasionall 4 ness its by far the most overwhelming tendency in day to day life/thinking ugh cant I NOT spew nerd facts about everything in sight. What are other conversaton topics?

Bottom Line: By thinking about your own thinking you alter your thinking, and that way lie 2nd order chaotic systems, the Uncertainty Principle and Goedel’s Theorem...

So going outside both threw me out of that recursion and added new, raw data as a means to test the competing hypotheses. It forced me to see what I actually act like by and large in a natural setting rather than the many ways I could interpret or read the way I act like, which like, is not actually all that mysterious lol

I think one thing a lot of spinoffs/reboots in hollywood forget is that if you arent improving on the original, adding to the original, or completely changing up the formula, you’re just wasting money.

If the original is heralded as a perfect classic, an amazing piece of cinema without any flaws, then there’s no reason to remake it unless you’re adding something completely new to it.

Take the Ghost in the Shell remake, for example. Besides the racism, like...there’s no point in remaking Ghost in the Shell. I guess...its in live action this time? But I’ve never understood how being in live action adds anything to the story, especially since it usually requires you to cut out story to fit it into a movie format. And besides that, the original animation is still great - nobody wants to see the same story with updated graphics and a hollower story because the old graphics are just fine.

But something like Voltron is prime content for remaking, granted you make it better instead of making it just as corny and with less heart. The original animation is...not great, and the original story is...not the best either. I’ve never seen it but that’s just what I’ve heard. But it was good enough, especially for the time, to be beloved by thousands if not millions of people for decades. Most of what’s there is nostalgia, not legitimate critical praise of the series. And if you have something like Voltron: Legendary Defender that builds on that concept of the original series, takes the same characters and shapes them into something multi-layered and interesting except lance and hunk, add the increase in the animation budget, and get a team of writers that legitimately care about their jobs? I’ve seen very little if any criticisms directed towards VLD by fans of the original series, and that’s stunning - yes Voltron has had worse reboots in the past so they’re probably more used to it, but still, I can’t think of any reboot or spinoff that hasn’t gotten some criticisms that say its worse than the original. VLD is like, objectively considered better by 99.9% of the population, and that’s fascinating to me. VLD is the best example of a reboot done right; it appeals to new fans (like me), old fans, and people who didn’t even like the original (like my dad).

But you dont have to remake the same concept either. You can take it in a completely opposite direction, and you can get away with maybe not being quite as on-point and great at your writing as you should be, although you should still be better than the original in terms of wit and production quality or you’re doing it wrong. Basically what I’m saying is that Teen Titans Go isn’t a doomed concept; taking a show in such a wildly different direction CAN work, and if TTG would stop trying to make callbacks to the original and stop insulting critics it would accomplish that a lot better but I digress. Also Teen Titans was the wrong show to do it with based on what I’ve heard about how the original ends, but again, its not a doomed concept. (Also TTGs animation should be just as good or better than the original; like the animation is actually not that bad in TTG, there’s some legitimate talent there [theres this screenshot in the special that they’ve been promoting like animals of a dragon that actually looks...really nice, I should go find it] and i feel bad that it’s not being used) Meanwhile, the Powerpuff Girls 2016 reboot? is a doomed concept. The PPG reboot does nothing to improve upon the original; the animation isn’t any better (maybe a little cleaner but thats it) despite the original ending well over a decade ago - like the animation of the new one is legitimately broken and its sad, the writing is significantly worse and just panders, its weaker and more hypocritical with its feminist message despite how far we’ve come in recent years, and it isnt trying to be anything new. TTG knows what it wants to be - the PPG reboot just wants to be the original PPG but isn’t good enough to be that.

Spinoffs also need to add something to the original story. Spinoffs get more leeway and creative freedom than reboots to be good or decent, but they need to have the same general spirit as the original or else they’re a failed spinoff. If TTG was a spinoff of the original Teen Titans, it’d be arguably worse because it doesnt have the same spirit as the original and shouldn’t be considered part of the same universe.

EDIT: I take back everything I said about TTG being good, it’s apparently a fucking spinoff and not a reboot, so ignore that but my previous points still stand and also at least it IS trying to be SOMETHING.

Idk I feel like I’ve said this all before but...the reason I was thinking about this again is because I was wondering why DC comics (and probably Marvel characters too, like Spiderman if he counts as Marvel) give their superheroes the same stories to go through over and over. Why would I want to watch Superman’s planet be destroyed again and again and again? Why can’t we have an incarnation where Superman lands on another alien planet, or his planet is saved and he doesn’t have to be sent away? Is that just...too un-superman for you? Superman should be superman regardless of where you put him. And if he isn’t, then he’s a piece of shit character. Can you tell I dont like Superman very much?

But like...Batman. Why can’t we have an incarnation of Batman his parents live? Or he only looses one parent? Or he ends up living with his grandparents? Batman IS a distinctive enough character to be recognizable personality-wise without having to have “an orphan” in his character description. Or hell, he can loose his parents, but why not do it in a different way?

Idk. Honestly what I was actually thinking about is why they decided to make Terra suffer (at least) twice, and why they wouldn’t change her story up in the Teen Titans vs Justice League spinoff universe or w/e the fuck it is. Idk much about super heroes sorry. But anyways my point is that I cant stop thinking about Terra even when it seems like I’m thinking about something else, please send help I have a problem

hey wow look what i found buried in my drafts from 300 years ago

this started as Bits Of Story Notes but then i kinda ran with it and let it become more drawn out prose so now its like. a lil writing blurb

specifically, about antis and their formations. its kind of a nonspecific narrative voice i didnt want to try to work into particular characters bc then id be limited by which characters know what/who would be willing to tell who what/etc so its not anyone in particular (theres also some names missing bc i havent figured out all the details)

“But what IS an Anti? How could something so... sinister come from someone so kind?”

“Well... that’s the trouble of it, you’re looking at it all backwards.”

“Backwards?”

“Well, to start, they come from nothing. It’s no fault of the Origin’s, after all. ...and you speak as if humans are inherently something kind, Antis inherently something cruel. I can promise you that simply isn’t the case.”

Antis are not literal pieces of their origins - it isn’t so much “my dark side, embodied,” no proper Hyde to one’s Jekyll, as it were. An Anti comes not from within, but without; like a formless, nonsentient parasite locking itself to an unwary host. This occurs at random, of course- anyone could have an Anti.

Any human, that is.

Though they’re said to be particularly drawn to those with high propensity for magic.

The nebulous spirit matter from which they come is all around us- no, don’t look, you can’t see it. Not even the Soul Collectors can. But something invisible, no matter how transient and slight, is none the less real. They have no self yet; no mind to think or to consider, no consciousness at all. Only the instinctive drive to become. Antis long to exist before the conception of “longing” exists within them. They form themselves as a sentient, corporeal being through the unconsenting assistance of the Origin. That person becomes a sort of mold, a self and a form from which the Anti creates a kind of reversed mirror image to inhabit itself.

The very moment of formation is still quite mysterious even to Antis themselves; how exactly it occurs, or why this moment and not that, and each Anti is quite different just as humans are from one another. It is not impossible for two Antis to form in the same way, but the variation is infinite.

However, it is as of now believed that an Anti comes to fruition upon achieving some kind of inciting incident which serves to shove the dormant spirit into physical reality, such as a moment of intense emotion, contact with magic, a traumatic event - something to release the spirit that has been quietly building itself up.

“But-...what if it doesn’t? What if there is no incident, the spirit never released-? What would that... do to a person?”

Well... Nobody knows. Possibly it might kill the both of them. Possibly something more sinister may occur, an amalgamate form never meant to be. But we need not worry about that. One could hardly imagine a person who never has a moment of intensity in their entire life. It is most likely the case that the spirit, upon having built itself up long enough, eventually will release on its own, anyhow.

Now, some Antis have an immediate fixation on their origin, some are an immediate destructive force, some are scared and confused by their own sudden existence, and... some just want to get as far away from them as quickly as possible. It’s not entirely fair to compare them to parasites - their formation is not harmful to the Origin, after all. But it is said that they are never quite the same afterward.

Damian Nightfall - yes, that one - formed from shadows one night when young Skye Blue had a particularly violent nightmare; he was suddenly awoken in the middle of the night and overwhelmed with dread in the darkness of his room. He had never been afraid of the dark before. He had sensed a growing anxiety every time the lights went out for weeks beforehand, but never told anyone; it felt silly and irrational to him- why would I be scared now? Why, I’ll be turning thirteen soon! I ought not to be afraid of dark rooms.

But he was, anyway.

He watched in confused horror as his own shadow turned into a dripping, crawling darkness that slowly gained mass and moved sluggishly across the floor on its own terms.

the thing on the floor immediately fixated on him, and while it was only half-formed and still an amorphous shambling mass of shadow, it lunged out of the darkness to attempt to strangle the boy the moment it had anything resembling hands

Miss Shuri immediately felt the intense distress - and the threat to Skye’s life, as it most definitely was - and appeared at once to cast the Anti out. But she refrained from killing him, though she could have, because a soul collector never kills if it can be avoided - and Damian was really only a child then.

He slithered off somewhere into the woods, and continues to terrorize Skye to this day - though he’s no longer interested in actually killing him. An Anti without an Origin becomes mortal and powerless, as he’s learned all too well.

And so that was Skye’s first encounter with Damian. He still suffers from frequent nightmares, and cannot sleep in the dark anymore. His shadow, even in bright sunlight, is oddly faded and light - not terribly noticeable, but almost as if there’s less of it somehow.

Miss Iris appeared as a sudden face in the mist of toxic fumes that erupted when Christina had fallen into a patch of mushrooms in the woods

there was a brief moment of grotesque entanglement as Iris’s body formed against her; both confused and trapped against each other, but both struggling to get away, each in disgust of the other

the moment they became untangled, there was a brief instant of hatred between them, and Iris vanished in smoke. These days, the two are content just to live their lives completely away from each other - neither acknowledges the other’s existence, and both are better off because of it.

Laelia Thorne’s Origin’s hand was cut off in an accident - and moments later, the severed, still-bleeding hand suddenly began spasming and mutating, growing itself out hideously, red blood pouring out in a bright rush as if it were being purged out - until Laelia was formed.

The poor girl was so horrified, she passed out from the shock. When she finally came to, Laelia was gone. No one believes her, supposing her to have been in a state of hysteria from the traumatic event - but the hand was never found.

She never saw Laelia again.

Lex Calamity’s Origin was looking into a mirror one day; feeling a crisis of identity, stressed and alone and feeling lost, when she realized suddenly that her reflection looked somehow wrong.

It wasn’t following her movements anymore, as if it were frozen in wide-eyed horror. She stared back into the mirror, feeling as if she were looking into a stranger’s eyes. A wild impulse to smash the glass to pieces came over her, but she could not bring herself to move.

Tears slowly slipped from the reflection’s eyes - which were rapidly changing color - but not from her own. In a sudden movement, she reached to touch her own face, but the tear was not there. The reflection did not move.

Inky black spread over the reflection’s blonde hair, consuming it as if a bucket of paint had been dropped over its head, as she could only watch in horror.

She slowly, slowly reached for the mirror. This time, the reflection moved in sync - but when their hands touched, she felt cold skin instead of glass, and the fingers twisted into hers.

She screamed and pulled back, inadvertently pulling the reflection out with her, and they both tumbled to the floor.

The reflection scrambled to its feet like a frightened cat and ran.

They found her, hours later, sobbing on the bathroom floor, shattered glass everywhere. After they heard her story, the sisters took her away to be exorcised of the evil she professed immediately. There was no trace of the demon reflection, and it was never seen again.

She is to this day desperately afraid of mirrors - and if ever she dares to look, her reflection is distorted and blurry- like some part of it has left.

Sage Blackburn’s Origin nearly drowned in the sea; She was desperately tangled up in seaweed that suddenly became arms - she saw bright yellow eyes glowing in the dark of the water, and felt someone holding her, pulling her up toward the surface.

Those eyes were the last thing she was conscious of before she passed out - the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen, she says.

She awoke on the beach, alone, but alive.

She believes a mermaid came and saved her. She calls her her Muse; she paints pictures of her all the time, trying to remember, and dreams of one day finding her again. She has overcome her fear of the ocean after this event, determined to return to the sea that she loves, and find her Muse again.

Sage knows nothing of this, and left the girl on the beach, hurrying away to discover her own life. She has told no one of this story; and so no one knows if she saved her Origin out of compassion, or just so that she herself would survive - and Sage wouldn’t tell you if you asked her.

[malkin erebus: formed in an explosion which destroyed Origin (Cyril Flintwitch)’s home and killed their mother. malkin did not intend to do this, and feels terrible for it, having never intended harm. cyril has permanent mental scars and has never been well since, though their paranoia and anxiety has improved recently - as well as their relationship with malkin. malkin is at times infatuated with cyril - and has had a very tumultuous history with them - but is learning to respect boundaries, and is accepting the responsibility for the things he has done.]

and you’re on anon, I should believe anything you say why? Although I think I know who it is already. I’m going to reiterate a few things here because on anon you are a waste of my time. If you were off, you and I could speak of this privately, I’ve said recently I’m against majority of callouts because they’re driven by personal agendas and grievances (and gatekeeping) rather than any kind of betterment to the group. But you’re on anon so that tells me A) you’re not going to stand by your words publically so already they’re meaningless and B) you’re joining this kinhate hype train out of spite.

I make Original concept works as well as AUs, UAs, and fanworks. I know the feeling of having your art stolen. I know it sucks and it feels invalidating.

But if a few people making this shitty world better for themselves in a small way that does not change ANYTHING about where your art came from or who made it, you’re honestly just being petty. Because how many text posts and anecdotes from REAL PEOPLE’S LIVES go viral and get tagged with #me #this is so me #this just happened to me when it didn’t?

And honestly, if you don’t want people to use it? don’t post it? Do not? you can make plenty of shit and not post it? Are we really going to condone the path of Anne Rice? Like yeah it sucks and there are things people should never do. But considering ESPECIALLY the nature of AUS we’re already perverting the source material. We don’t really get to complain when people do it to us when we ignore the creators. It’s why I don’t post a lot of AE content anymore, because I put my heart and soul into world building and filling gaps, and lazy writing from temps and forced heteronormativity have really ruined a lot of things in universe but there’s not really anything to do about it because a lot of stuff is just ignored or looked down upon by the devs and the fandom. And that’s a damn shame honestly. So the majority I didn’t post and instead turned my energies to making my own stuff. Fandom is supposed to fill the gaps in source work. But when that fails you make your own original stuff instead. Because again, with fandom it’s a line of command with the creator at the very top, not that people remember that when the creator doesn’t agree with every little thing they say.

And to end? Like that’s a really, really presumptuous and pretentious attitude you got there. between that and spelling I can’t imagine you have much that anyone would interact with, much less kin with. Like oh, if I think kin people exist I have to agree with every last little thing they say? I think Christian people exist and I don’t agree with a damn word from any of them. Do you see how that logic doesn’t follow? Creative writing and art is an escape from reality, we make it for ourselves and others to enjoy and you have to let it go and understand people are going to experience it and appreciate it in their own ways and we have absolutely no control of that, nor should we. Art is meant to connect people, to evoke feeling and to unite people on some level. It is the epitome of the human experience in physical form. And it can take any form be is scientifical, traditional, digital, with words or pictures and so many other things. To see it as something to be controlled or only consumed in one way is just, not possible.

Also, if you think people define their own lives, selves and realities is any way policing or power tripping, you may have a misunderstanding on what individuality is, pal. I’ve wasted enough words on you though. You’re probably not even an artist or a writer or anything, just a nasty little troll that has fun screaming through your keyboard. It’s been fun though. ‘Carried Your Weight’ is a very significant release for me, as it represents a new beginning and direction for my music. As I mentioned before, my previous releases have been acoustically driven, but I’ve found that by adding additional instruments and starting a “band”, I feel I’m able to express myself in greater depth.

I worked with a wonderfully kind and talented producer and a drummer called Paul West at Awesome Source Recording. He has helped me capture ideas that shaped this song, and I’m incredibly grateful for his help.

What most inspires you?

I’ve spent the last few years living abroad and this has given me some great memories and also some incredibly humbling experiences. I love writing songs because it challenges me to communicate and capture these memories and experiences. Everything I write tends to be quite emotionally charged; I wouldn’t want to release music that wasn’t genuine.

Writing songs is incredibly enriching when you achieve something that you’re proud of. It takes me a long time to write music because I want to achieve balance, meaning, connection and musical ideas that resonate with me. There’s a lot to consider and many important decisions to be made with every song.

To demonstrate a point: I recently reached out to my Twitter and LinkedIn networks. I asked a simple question: ‘Do you use link reclamation alongside your content marketing campaigns?’

The responses surprised me…

Always: 29% Sometimes: 47% Never: 24%

Of those who took the time to respond, only three in ten are executing link reclamation as standard on every campaign.

Perhaps more surprising is that one in four aren’t using it at all.

Given some of the comments left alongside the poll, this is something which many turn to if they have time — rather than working it into a wider link building process.

Think of the links which could have been earned but which were simply let lie as brand mentions.

What is link reclamation?

Link reclamation is a simple but efficient tactic to turn brand mentions into links; usually those earned as part of a content marketing or digital PR campaign.

As SEOs, we understand the value of authoritative, editorial links and the impact which they can have upon our campaigns — just as much as we understand how hard it is to even earn coverage from top-tier publications in the first place.

That’s why it can be frustrating when we discover a brand mention which doesn’t link.

What’s really important to remember, however, is that, in many instances, journalists aren’t purposefully avoiding linking to you or your client. For one reason or another (whether that’s trying to speed up the publishing process, a question as to whether a link is really needed to tell the story or others…) articles sometimes go published without a link.

As an industry we need to accept that there’s little we can do to change a journalist’s own processes and publication criteria. What we can do is take action and follow a series of tried and tested steps to try to land that link.

After all, the hard work of getting the coverage in the first place is already done. Turning a brand mention into a link is surely easy in comparison, right?

I’d like to say yes. And in many cases it is. However, I’ve also seen some horrendous examples of link reclamation gone wrong, usually because of a lack of understanding as to whether a link is actually deserved or not.

How do you find unlinked brand mentions?

One way to find unlinked brand mentions is to use ahref’s content explorer and follow their tutorial here. Combining a CSV export with Screaming Frog to compile a list of web pages which mention your brand but which don’t link.

If you’re actively promoting a content marketing or digital PR campaign, however, you’ll undoubtedly already be looking for the latest coverage.

One of the easiest ways to find this is through Google News. Filter by ‘Past 24 hours’ to see coverage picked up in the past day, or set to ‘Past week’ if you’re looking to find additional articles and features.

This will often throw up a number of unlinked brand mentions which you then can use link reclamation tactics for to try and turn them into a link.

Don’t forget to set up Google Alerts both across your brand name and campaign headlines as well to easily be alerted to further unlinked mention opportunities to explore.

When should you ask for a brand mention to be linked?

It’s not always right to ask for an unlinked brand mentioned to be turned into a link.

Despite what many may say, a journalist doesn’t owe you a link. Not even if they cover your campaign.

A link’s purpose is to take a user from A to B and, in order for that to make sense to be in place, it typically needs to add value of some sorts.

To put this into a working context, let’s look at a few different scenarios here.

Your brand (or client) has been mentioned in an article in reference to a study which you conducted and which the article directly mentions. There’s no link but many of the statistics and findings have been revealed.

A journalist has featured an infographic which you produced (and embedded it) but hasn’t linked. They have credited your brand.

Your brand has been referenced alongside a quote which you supplied to a journalist to add further weight to their story around a subject.

Your brand has been mentioned out of context. In this case, let’s base it around a Tweet which circulated last year; one of your physical stores has been mentioned in an online newspaper, only in reference to a robbery taking place over the road from it.

In which instance would you say you’re well-deserved of the link?

Scenario one.

When there’s a clear opportunity to add value with what’s on the other end of the link, there’s no debating that a link should be in place and it’s easy to justify why. The good news is that, in many cases, the link will already be in place when there’s clear value to the user and is an important part of the wider article.

Scenarios two and three are the ones where most link reclamation activity happens. Those where a link references the original campaign or the brand who has supplied a quote. In most cases, the link isn’t already in place here because it isn’t vital to the story. However, the link is in context and can be requested as a way to cite a source.

Scenario four is where link reclamation should be avoided. The link is of no value to readers and doesn’t make contextual sense.

Always be mindful as to whether it makes sense for a link to be added in to an article. Ask yourself; “would a link add value to a reader?” Otherwise, you’re wasting your time trying to reclaim an out-of-context mention.

You need to be able to clearly outline where a link should point to.

Note: requesting homepage, category or service page links is often not as successful as those to content pages as it can be seen as overly commercial.

You also need to be able to justify why it makes sense to be in place to maximize your success rate at link reclamation.

Who should you approach with your request?

You need to make sure you’re making your request to the right person to increase your chances of seeing a brand mentioned turned into a link.

Your options of who to approach are usually:

The journalist who wrote and published the article

Their editor

The publication’s corrections desk

You see, most go straight back to the journalist who they pitched the original story to, however this isn’t always as successful as it could be.

Why?

Journalists are busy people.

Once they’ve hit publish there’s a good chance they’ve moved onto writing their next article and have more or less forgotten about what they last put together. And we simply have to accept that. They have new priorities and they’re not about to go and drop everything to add your link back in.

Of course, that’s not to say that reaching back out to a journalist doesn’t work, simply that they’re not always the best option.

You could reach out to the editor of the section. However, again, they’re busy individuals and adding your link in likely doesn’t come as a high priority.

A corrections desk’s role is to make amends to articles which have already been published.

This makes them, at least for me, the first people to reach out to.

You’ll find corrections contacts listed for most publications. If we take a look at Metro’s ‘Contact Us’ page (found in their footer), we see:

The address clearly states that the purpose is for complaints or corrections. sSending your link reclamation request here often ensures both quick action and an increased chance of success.

Say you send to the corrections desk and either get no reply after three days or you don’t see the link added in. (Note that you often won’t be notified that a link has been added to the article after you request it through the corrections desk — so be sure to keep checking yourself.) In this case, you might go back and reach out to either the journalist or the editor (or both; essentially giving you three chances at getting that link).

What should you say to maximize your chances of getting the link?

I’ve spent hours in the past reworking emails, but am confident that the approach which I now take works well, at least across my own clients and campaigns.

I’ve learned that a successful link reclamation email includes the following:

A polite THANK YOU for covering your campaign, brand or client (manners really do go a long way)

A clear reference to the title of the article which contains the brand mention

A link to the article which contains the mention

The link which you want added in to the article

A simple justification as to why the link adds value to readers

And, in practice, here’s what that looks like for me:

It’s simple, straight to the point and polite; however what it does perfectly is justify why a link would add value to the article and should be added in.

In this particular example, the link was added into an article on USA Today within 2 hours of sending the email.

Earning extra links for your brand

Link reclamation is something, as far as I’m concerned, should be done alongside all content marketing and digital PR campaigns to help you maximize the number of quality links earned.

Once you understand what works (and what doesn’t) in terms of who to approach and what to say, you’ll find that it’s something you can spend half an hour on each day and see results from.

At the end of the day, links still work in SEO. And there’s every argument to be made to put in that extra bit of effort to earn more from your (already put in) hard work.
