Desmond miles as hopes older brother! Des as hopes brother! I don't have much due to my painkillers giving me a crash and burn boost, but I can help offer what little info I do think of.
It's very clear hope has had a lady's upbringing and education, Desmond alreadly had "big brother" vibes after his time near ezio's sister and little brother so he gets soft with the pretty menace that is now his sister. He's sadly not fully aware of how bad things would get in their adult lives under Achilles, but with his time as connor he knows things went horrible enough for Achilles to take things more seriously. So he's ready, but not truly ready
Now growing up before and after the death of their bio family then adoption by the german couple who raised them, he helps set hope up to be a better person once tragedy struck once more. Not just in skill, but her morals, right from wrong and her blind loyalty with plea's and warnings falling to deaf ears.
To most he's mildly serious yet calm and laid back, easiest assassin on the homestead to get along with. Most recruits who get to train with him come out sore and tired, but full of pride with a goofy smile. (I love when desmond gets to act like a big brother, he can't help it- shays his brother, liams a brother, the other's are questionable at best)
(It alsi really got to me in shay's game that hope of all people didn't listen, she seems so smart and clever! Hell she IS smart and clever)
Wanna make it more tragic?
How about when they lost their parents they were separated due to their parents’ actions, who had been kind people but may have gotten in with the wrong crowd or might have accumulated too much debt from the wrong people.
Desmond, being the older of the two, promised to find Hope and told her to wait for him. Hope is left with nothing else to do but believe in her brother and she’s taken away to an orphanage while Desmond is left to ‘pay the debt’.
Hope is adopted and her adoptive parents love her but she still remembered the warmth of her brother’s hand on the top of her head, could still remember the kind smile he always had even when Hope annoyed him.
So she believed him.
She believed him and kept on waiting for him.
Then her adoptive father was killed and she and her adoptive mother were thrown out of their own home.
It’s during the time she tried to steal for medicine to save her ailing adoptive mother that he finally found her.
It’s a bittersweet reunion as she had waited for this moment for so long but she had imagined their reunion to be a sweet one. Where he would appear on their doorsteps and would embrace her tightly…
Where her adoptive parents would welcome him to their home, her adoptive mother cooking for him and her adoptive father teaching him their family business…
Not in this dank alleyway with his hand gripping her arm tightly, the surprise clear in his eyes.
Like he didn’t expect to see her here.
Like this had all been a coincidence.
She had half a mind to push him and run away.
To ask why he had taken so long to find her…
Yet…
“Patricia?”
Just one word.
A name she had not heard for a long time.
Spoken in a much deeper voice than she had grown up hearing.
Spoken with such…
Hope.
Her body moved before she could stop herself.
His hands held her like they’ve always had.
His embrace was just as warm as she remembered…
.
Unorganized Notes:
With Desmond’s help, Hope’s adoptive mother didn’t die.
Desmond had been ‘paying’ their parents debt for years by singlehandedly destroying their group. It took some time as they were all scums who had enough money to pay for decent security and Desmond had no allies or informants of his own so he had to do all the information gathering on his own (aka: the Altaïr way)
During this time, Desmond had also amassed a… following as some of the people he took out had really had sidegigs.
So, yeah, while Hope had been growing up in a safe loving home, Desmond had been ‘unintentionally’ creating his own small gang.
Hope joins the gang, of course, and it’s actually less of a gang and more of a lite Brotherhood that focused more on information gathering and causing distractions for Desmond.
Desmond isn't Desmond's biological name but the name he went with while doing his 'sidegigs'. Only Hope and Desmond know each other's biological names and they only use it when they're alone.
Desmond actually didn’t want to train Hope to be an Assassin like him because he will always see her as his that little kid who would cry for her brother whenever she tripped. Then he realized how his feelings were the same as the ones Ezio had felt about Claudia and knew that he can’t stop her. All he can do is guide her and make sure she grew up to be strong enough.
Hope's first Assassination mission was to hunt down the men who used to be her adoptive father's business partners.
So when Achilles finally finds them, they’re pretty much Assassins by their own rights and he had heard rumors of them and the immense network they held in the colonies. That was what Achilles was after.
Desmond has no reason not to join Achilles. He only heard a bit from Ratonhnhaké:ton’s memories of what happened and Achilles had been cagey, after all, only saying that the Colonial Brotherhood fell into a Templar ‘trap’.
But… Desmond has no reason to see Achilles as a mentor as well so he acts more like an unofficial Assassin (which always left a bitter taste in his mouth), it’s a small price to pay to retain his freedom from the constraints of having to listen to Achilles’ orders.
Desmond usually just visits once in a while and every Assassin in the homestead are immediately swarming him, wanting to learn from him and ask for his advice. He’s friendly to everyone and acts like a big brother to them (especially as Achilles’ recruits are usually younger than Desmond).
Hope and Shay have a more rivalry-type relationship because Desmond told Hope that Shay had potential which Hope took as a declaration of war for her brother’s attention. Shay thinks Hope is just a very… ‘aggressive’ woman.
Liam thinks Shay is dumb for not realizing that Hope only acts like that to him. Everyone has heard of Hope, Desmond’s sister and first apprentice. Among their group, she’s one of the few to actually be on the same level as an Assassin and she’s as cunning and smart as one can get. She’s also usually nice and polite and her treatment of Shay makes Liam mistakes it as… Hope having feelings for Shay!
Desmond knows Hope is acting out because she has abandonment issues but, at the same time, her rivalry with Shay was helping the two of them grow so… he’s not going to do anything other than remind Hope that she’s his own and only sister and nothing will ever change that.
Desmond is close to Achilles’ apprentices and acts like a secondary mentor + older brother to them all. Since he’s older than them (physically and thanks to the Bleeding Effect + his reincarnation bs), he tends to treat them as young ‘kids’.
Up to you if Desmond’s presence have an effect and saves Achilles’ wife and son.

thinking about that one haytham character study/au i wrote where it, to this day, feels like i got possessed by the spirit of this fictional man while writing it
#i usually dont claim to know a character better than everyone else but i know haytham kenway better than anything else#basically its an au where shay stayed and they saved ziio's village bc fuck you ubisoft for killing off ziio#but yeah he meets young connor.#and i took SO MUCH of the introspection from the forsaken novel#the thing with haytham is that its a thin line between overly angsty and not enough??#he recognizes the injustices done to him. comes so close to admitting hes on the wrong side of history. but he does believe in the templars#granted its been half a year so i dont remember THAT clearly#but just. all about him is so#his mother was so horrified by what he did. his father died when he was so young all those 'when youre older' promises dying with him#HIM BEING THE ONE WHO SAVES CONNOR FROM BEING HANGED BECAUSE THE ASSASSINS FAILED#INDIRECTLY CAUSING HTE DOWNFALL OF THE AMERICAN RITE AND HIS OWN FUCKINGERDGFJ DEATH#god remember when assassins creed characters were still interesting#it took me well over a minute to remember the valhalla antagonists#mostly because they were A. completely irrelevant for 90% of the game or B. fucking annoying and nothing else#personally the only reason i stuck around in valhalla for that long was because it let me have gay sex#was the story engaging? rarely! was the side content good? sometimes!#im not even a nostalgia rose tinted glasses loser my first ac was odyssey#honestly i think haytham might be where the morally questionable mentally ill dads who love their kids but suck at parenting thing started#like for me. my affection for those specific characters#haytham is the blueprint. for better or for worse

One of these days I'm going to stop screaming about Haytham Kenway but today is not that day and today's semi-coherent ranting is about the simple fact that not only has Haytham had a life full of betrayal and loss and deliberate cruelty inflicted upon him, he also has chronic pain and probable depression by the time he finally meets his son.
He describes calling the first meeting of the Templars in fifteen years "with the same amount of enthusiasm with which I tend my crops, or write to Jenny, or get out of bed in the morning, which is to say not much," and later says that he feels as if he's been asleep for years and is just waking up when he realizes he has a son who needs him in that moment (regardless of the fact that Connor only needs help because Haytham put him in that position. I love Haytham but he's also incredibly frustrating). Both of those things sound a bit like depression to me, and he out and out says that the pain from the poorly healed stab wound is now bothering him a lot every day, which is to say that half the reason he's a grumpy, impatient ass in the later game is that he's in pain. (Note: only half. The other half is the whole thing where he's too smart for anyone's good and has allowed himself to become ruthless and callous through lack of people in his life he cares about or who care about him).

Hi, can you do a concept for platonic haytham kenway from assassins creed with a reader that isn’t a templar and just a civilian.
I'm not done with the game but I did do some research! If anything is out of character, my apologies, I can fix it if I need to. I do like his character a lot!
Yandere! Platonic! Haytham Kenway with Civilian! Darling
Assassin's Creed III
Pairing: Platonic
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Overprotective behavior, Manipulation, Stalking, Murder, Indoctrination, Threats, Violence, Blood mention, Stalking.
Tumblr media
Haytham is a bit hard to see platonic, but it can be done.
He did have a son (even if he thought of killing him for his beliefs) so he has some sort of paternal love.
He'd probably feel platonic care for a fellow Templar.
Although... a civilian?
Haytham seems like the type of guy to care for someone who has importance to him.
He's actually rather arrogant to those he feels are lower than him.
He'd probably meet you by chance.
Maybe you helped him somehow (knew a little about the artifacts, helped him find a target, healed a wound...).
He brushed you off after, not caring about you status.
Yet he does compensate you for the help.
Point is, you'd have to prove useful to him as a civilian to kickstart his obsession.
After that he decides to keep you in mind.
You've earned his gratitude... perhaps you aren't just some civilian.
Haytham's feelings take awhile to form.
He keeps in mind where you reside and watches over you.
For some reason you keep occupying his mind.
He wants to see you safe in return for your aid.
Safe to say you are under Templar protection.
He isn't sure why...
But the idea of you falling into Brotherhood hands disturbs him.
So he'll do whatever he can to prevent that.
You won't know but Templar members are all around your area.
They are assigned by Haytham to report to him about your well-being.
These feelings are not romantic... more like a close friend or parental figure.
He feels as a reward for your help... he will teach you the ways of his Templar ideals.
He waits until he's ready to take you in.
Haytham feels you two can be closer this way.
If you are around his age he'll teach you as a dear friend.
If you are younger than him then he'll teach you as though you are a child of his.
Haytham sees you more than a civilian so while he talks to you he is softer and kinder compared to his arrogant behavior towards you before.
Granted there's still some arrogance but he's willing to give you a chance.
Haytham invites you to a meeting and you have no idea what it's about.
You helped him once... why does he wish to meet again?
That's when he reveals his fanatical beliefs plan.
He wants you to become a Templar.
He's dripping with charisma, saying how the Brotherhood will harm you for helping a Templar out.
He manipulates you with threats.
You have no idea what choice to make.
It isn't until he says one thing that you decide to at least be in compliance...
"After this meeting I could always kill you for not accepting my offer. You'd know too much."
To keep you in line he doesn't mind threats.
Even if you aren't entirely with the Templar, he's happy you at least comply to being at their aid.
Haytham doesn't care if he has to kill those around you or threaten your death either.
Sure, he cares for you.
But killing your family and friends makes you reliant on him...
Plus, fear is an emotion you can use to get people to listen to you.
He's a terrifying yandere both platonic and romantic.
Normally platonics are softer than their romantic counterpart.
Not the case with Haytham.
He's intense and cruel in both ways.
He kills for you, blood on his outfit, and he smiles.
Smiles because he knows, deep down...
You feel guilty for getting others killed.
Your kindness is easily abused as a civilian.
Which lead to Haytham dragging you into the order against your will.
He comforts you when you feel upset about the murders.
He says it's for your own good.
It's also for the good of the Templar Order.
Haytham cares for you and even shows paternal love towards you despite what he's caused you.
He says he cares for you.
But does he really?
You may never know for sure.
All you know is you've been dragged into a hole you can't dig yourself out of by Haytham.
If you aren't careful, he'll make it your grave.

Day Eleven: Vampire/Blood
Kinktober 2023 Masterlist will come after October
Tumblr media

Word Count: 2.8K
Genre: Assassin's Creed Rogue
Pairing: Shay Cormac/Haytham Kenway
Warnings: Blood/nsfw/Anal/Desperation/Biting/Vampire
Tumblr media
The storm had caused havoc across the Morrigan. Some sails are torn and are having to repaired as they go. There wasn’t too much damage due to Shay’s sailing though. Any other Captain with less experience and less determination would have had their ship been ripped apart and thrown about in a storm like that. Yet Shay had gotten them out of there in one piece. But, it was still enough to set them back a couple of days… or three.
And it was enough to send Haytham over the edge.
It was that night of the news of delay that Shay found the Grandmaster in his quarters looking over his fleet reports with his back turned to him. Shay closes the door behind him with a click and locks it.
Haytham’s red eyes snap to him over his shoulder.
Knowing what the Grandmaster is, isn’t some secret within the Templar order. A creature of the night that feeds on the blood of humans to sustain their well beings. Nightwalkers and lovers of the moon. The British adopted the name vampire many years ago and the name stuck.
It should have scared Shay when he first heard that the Grandmaster of the Colonial American Rite was a vampire, but he only found himself intrigued in the unknown. He had seen a city fall to him disturbing an ancient site from people that lived millions of years before them. What is it to say that unfathomable creatures that don’t obey human laws might live among him.
And this wouldn’t be his first blood donation to Haytham.
The Grandmaster looks away, as if ashamed that Shay already knows what’s coming.
“I was hoping it wouldn’t come to this,” Haytham speaks lowly.
Shay moves forward, assuring the other with a hand on his upper arm. As far as Shay’s knowledge goes, Haytham was not born a creature, he was made. Turned when he had saved his sister and Birch’s last act on Haytham was a sin that would take him to the bottom of hell.
It was late one night when Haytham had told him the tale. Because he knew Shay wanted to ask but didn’t want to pry. Many other vampires are thousands of years old. But here Haytham is, still reasonably in his human years.
“The storm came by surprise. We couldn’t have expected it,” Shay tries to reassure even though he knows his words do little.
And in fact, it only has Haytham scowling downwards at the table where his hands grip the edges tightly. Shay’s hand falls from his arm as he steps away. He makes his way over to his weapons and clothes rack while unbuckling all the straps that crisscross his body. He neatly hangs them up before shrugging off his heavy coat and doing the same. Then follows his vest, the leather armour he wears and then lastly his shirt, all folded up and placed away.
He can feel Haytham’s eyes on his back but it isn’t anything romantic or alluring. It feels predatory. The delay in returning back to New York has set Haytham’s feeding back. Shay knew the risks of having him aboard and having such a tight schedule and yet he thought all would be fine yet here they are. Haytham had told him he had fed before, but this, this is different.
It’s not that Shay dislikes this. He would gladly give himself up to Haytham to save any of his crew meeting a much less pleasant fate. It is just the pain. His hand subconsciously runs over the nape of his neck where fresh scars lie from Haytham. The first time was the worst. But Shay will never admit that.
After kicking his boots off, he keeps his pants on and walks over to the bed. He sits down on the edge and meets hooded red eyes from across the room. Haytham hasn’t moved an inch. He reminds Shay of a cougar waiting to pounce, hunched over and staring without breathing.
“Come here, Haytham,” Shay coos over. “No need to be standing there with a frown.”
At that, the vampire huffs in annoyance and bows his head, his shoulders slouching. He takes off his hat and places it atop of the fleet reports and his cloak soon follows neatly folded. He walks over silently, his feet almost not making a sound against the floor of the ship. He stands in front of Shay, looking down his nose at him.
As much as Haytham wants to act or look like his vampirism isn’t affecting him, it is visible that is jaw is clenched and his hands are tightly fisted. And he isn’t talking. He’s more silent than usual and that only means his mind is running like a ship sailing at twenty knots through a thrashing storm.
As if doing this a million times before, Shay begins unbuttoning Haytham’s coat and undressing him. The one thing that they’ve figured out to make this a more pleasant experience for Shay is through sex. When Haytham is only completely naked is when he leans down to Shay. But it isn’t for a kiss. Shay stops him with two fingers over his mouth and slowly pushes him back.
“Can’t get greedy now,” Shay firmly yet softly states.
Haytham’s mouth is slightly parted and two sets of fangs can be seen. It’s almost like looking into the mouth of an animal. He licks Shay’s fingers before taking them into his hot mouth. His fangs threaten to pierce his skin as he sucks on Shay’s appendages. There was one time that Haytham had bitten down, lost in his own world and nearly took his fingers with it. So right now no one would give Shay shit for being a little weary as his heart beats rapidly in his chest. But his dick likes this, hardening in his pants.
Haytham’s red eyes stare intently at him as he makes work of sucking his fingers. When Shay bids it enough, he takes them out and shuffles up the bed. Haytham quickly follows, his eyes never leaving Shay for a moment. Haytham takes off Shay’s pants a little too eagerly before he comes down face to face with him. He licks his lips, staring at Shay’s own.
He opens his mouth to say something but Shay brings him down for a kiss instead. Haytham’s fangs graze against his lips, threatening to make him bleed. But Shay pulls away as Haytham’s teeth snap together centimetres away from his face.
“Enough of that,” Shay teases.
Haytham huffs slightly before he pushes Shay back on the bed. He parts his legs, shuffling himself in between them so that their dicks are flushed against each other. Shay is already hard and ready but if they go too quickly, there’s a risk of Haytham loosing control. And with a hungry vampire breathing at your neck, that’s the last thing Shay wants. He doesn’t want to end tonight with his head on the other side of the room away from his body.
Shay grunts as his ass is propped into the air. Haytham doesn’t waste any time by licking a strip over his ass. A shiver runs down the captain’s spine as Haytham’s silver tongue does it job of loosening things up. His tongue dives into his ass, hot and wet and-
Fangs prick at Shay’s cheeks and he flinches slightly. But Haytham feels it and stops, looking up at him from under his brow. He stares as he continues opening Shay up for the main course. Haytham’s mouth ventures up to his inner thigh, one hand cradling his leg as if it’s something delicate. His plump lips a breath away over his skin. His fangs a little too close to comfort but Haytham wouldn’t…
Before he knows it, fangs are sinking into his inner thigh. Without a warning. Without a notice. And Shay can’t hold the shout that escapes his mouth. The way his body convulses and how he instinctly grabs on Haytham’s hair. He groans as he feels his own hot blood dribbling down his thigh only for it to be licked up. He breathes heavily, trying to control himself and collect himself. But it is very hard. The thigh is much softer than the neck.
“Christ, Haytham,” Shay sneers.
Haytham would apologize but he knows damn well that he isn’t truly sorry. His lust and hunger got the best of him. He knows how to control himself yet every time he’s around Shay, he can’t help it. Especially when Shay is so willing to give himself up to Haytham. It’s a problem yet it’s a problem similar to a drug. A very addictive one at that.
The vampire sucks and licks at the bite mark until it stops bleeding, giving a small kiss before moving away. It still canes, the pain throbbing through Shay’s thigh but it’s manageable. He’ll just be walking with a limp from for the next few days.
Haytham litters kiss up Shay’s stomach, to his chest then up his neck. A hand slithers down to his own cock and he lines himself up to Shay’s hole. He doesn’t want to wait any longer, he can’t. He dives into Shay a little too forcefully, pushing a deep, pushing a shaky grunt out of the Irishman. Shay holds onto Haytham’s shoulders, nails digging into skin. He pants loudly and shows his discomfort. But he doesn’t say stop.
Roughly, Haytham moves. His thrusts are short and uncoordinated. He’s desperate to get to the main course. Shay stops him before this gets too out of hand. He grabs Haytham’s face with both hands and makes the vampire look at him. He stops dead and his jaw is clenched so tightly that Shay can feel it.
“When was the last time you fed?” Shay asks, his voice all but a whisper.
The shaky inhale that Haytham does is all Shay would need for an answer. But he waits, because he wants to know how long Haytham has been holding out.
The vampire swallows, regaining some strength. “Three weeks before we voyaged out,” he softly responds, his voice cracking.
Shay’s lips thin. So that is why he’s so needy. So desperate to feed. He’s been holding himself together this entire voyage. Today was just his breaking point which is something not at all seen with Haytham.
A pit of guilt settles into the Captain’s gut that he didn’t notice anything. Yet, at the same time he knows he shouldn’t. Haytham has somewhat perfected hiding his vampirism. So, hiding his hunger until it gets bad would just be another thing he has worked on until flawless.
“You silly, silly man,” Shay finally responds.
This gets a short chuckle from Haytham. Which is a big win in Shay’s books.
“Alright now?” Shay asks before they continue on.
“I’m not some fragile antique vase,” Haytham grumbles back.
The man below him raises a brow. Haytham frowns deeply but it’s something along the way of amusement.
Haytham exits Shay so he can reach over the bed. He grabs one of the pillows and positions it under Shay’s back all so this is a better experience for the Irishman. Shay had taught him this little trick after learning it from the girls in Albany. He then reaches back over to Shay’s bedside table and picks out the small bottle of oil he keeps in there.
Truth be told, this isn’t for Haytham. He only needs Shay’s blood but to make this a better experience, the sex is needed. Haytham lathers up his dick with the oil and prods Shay’s ass with some so it isn’t as painful as before.
Haytham re-enters Shay slowly, with more care this time. The moan that comes form Shay’s throat is something that he didn’t know he had in him tonight. The oil does more wonders than just spit.
Haytham starts slowly, letting Shay feel good and let his body buzz with the pleasure. Letting him moan and pant with every thrust that becomes harder with each turn. Haytham comes down on his hands and knees, hot breath hovering over Shay’s neck. But he comes up and gives a small kiss to his lips. Telling Shay that he is here.
Shay holds onto the vampire’s sides as he moves to the nape of his neck again. The pleasure that holds onto him is only something he can get lost in before the next notion comes. He brings a hand down to his cock and strokes himself to the timing of Haytham’s movements. He relaxes his body, knowing that tensing only makes the first bite worse.
The vampire hesitates for a moment, his eyes grazing over the old and new scars that seem to litter Shay’s shoulders and nape. All perfect bite marks caused by Haytham in events such as now. He doesn’t want to think too much of it. Not when he’s starving.
When the set of fangs sink into Shay’s skin, it isn’t something out of those romance novels he’s read. It hurts. Shay’s body tenses up as he fights his inner self to not push Haytham off of him. He has forgotten about his own dick and his holds onto the vampire for dear life as Haytham’s fangs sink deeper into his flesh. The pain is blinding. It’s almost too much with Haytham keeping an even pace inside of him.
He doesn’t realize he’s holding his breath until he’s letting it out. And with his breath, comes out a pained cry. He can’t help it. Shay inhales in shakily, trying to control himself but, as Haytham drinks his fill. The burning pain only ebs down his chest and up his neck. He claws at Haytham, but the vampire doesn’t budge.
He can feel Haytham’s hot tongue lapping at the blood seeping from the bite mark. Pushing down so that more blood pools out. Shay grinds his teeth again, threatening them to crack. Haytham works carefully though. Not letting a drop slip down his body and onto his bed.
“Ah, Hay- Ngh…” Shay grinds out pass his teeth.
His head becomes dizzy, something familiar to what he’s felt before. The dizziness that comes with blood loss. He pants shallowly, his grip beginning to loosen and his dick beginning to soften.
Haytham pulls away, feeling Shay’s fight lesson. He licks at the wound that pearls blood. The taste sends a shiver down his blood. Metallic, coppery yet sweet. He licks and kisses until the bite mark doesn’t bleed profusely, but it still is something that will need attention. He did bite quite deep tonight. The scars will welt more than the others.
His thrusting pauses as he sits up to look down at Shay, who pats him on the thigh lightly. He looks pale, more so than he does usually.
“We can finish this later,” Shay groans out. “Clean me up, Haytham.”
Haytham pulls out and swats the pillow out from under Shay so that he can bring the man into a sitting position. He’s a little dazed but he can hold himself. He stays sitting while Haytham walks over across the room stark naked.
Any other time, Shay would soak in the view. But right now he feels so ungodly tired. He knows he can’t sleep just yet though. But the notion is so welcoming.
When Haytham comes back, he wipes the blood that drips down his chest. He’s had his fill, even a drop more would be greedy. He dabs a rag with straight alcohol and places it on Shay’s wound. The Irishman hisses, seeming to wake up all at once.
“I-“
“Don’t apologize.”
Haytham frowns slightly. He continues dressing the wound the best he knows. All so that it doesn’t get infected. None of the others have ever gotten infected but Haytham doesn’t want to play his chances.
“Do you feel better?” Shay manages to mumble out.
“Yes.” The vampire pauses in thought. “I appreciate what you do for… this.”
“Mm.”
This, referring to his vampirism. This, referring to his curse. This, referring to his bloodlust. All that Shay is more than willing to help for. Something that Haytham -in his own eyes- doesn’t deserve but yet he receives.
“Lay down now, Shay,” Haytham murmurs. “Gist has the helm.”
Shay doesn’t lay down straight away though. He pries open one eye and looks to Haytham. He stares for a moment, at the red staring back at him that now seem to have dulled.
“Stay with me? Hm?” He asks, his accent making his words slurred together.
Haytham softly places a hand over Shay’s, his own cold compared to the living. He shouldn’t linger any longer than usual. Last thing he wants is to have the crew talking, or let along Gist.
But it’s Shay. The one that has given up so much for their cause. For the Order. For Haytham.
“Just for a moment.”

Connor Kenway: Celebratory Birthday Headcanons- Part 3
Tumblr media
A/N: Alrighty y’all, here’s part 3 of the Connor-canons! For those who are just joining us, first of all, welcome! We’re doing celebratory Ratonhnhaké:ton/Connor Kenway birthday headcanons! There’s been two other parts thus far, the Yandere!TOKW au relationship headcanons and the non-yan canonical au relationship headcanons. These will simply be the modern!au non-yan headcanons w/o the relationship aspect. I hope you all enjoy! Also, please feel free to send in Connor related asks and requests. I’d be more than happy to gush about him to anyone willing to listen and share. (Also this is a long one, so buckle up folks.🙃)
Modern!Connor Kenway Headcanons
Right off the bat this man loves pizza
It’s like his favorite food
He also a big fan of eggs and different kinds of meat, so he likes that he can have both on a pizza, i.e a breakfast pizza
(The Palmeros ones from Walmart are really nice actually so if y’all like breakfast pizza and haven’t tried ‘em you should 👀)
He’s also quite fond of hearty soups, but I think we all coulda figured that out
Idk why but I always feel like Connor takes good care of his hands
I mean, he takes very good care of his hygiene overall but I feel that his hands are particularly important to him
Canonically, he’s only supposed to be like 6’0 but I don’t think any of us in the community accept that so let’s say that he’s actually more like 6’5 😂
I say that because since he has such an imposing figure, he recognizes that people might be wary of him upon first glance
Also, being as big and built as he is, he sweats a fair amount (not like, abnormally, just probably more than the average sized man)
He takes such good care of himself because A.) that’s what you’re supposed to do and B.) he’s very conscious about the way he smells and presents himself to others
Of course we know that Ratonhnhaké:ton is Native American and the Mohawk people in particular aren’t fond of being touched by people they aren’t familiar with, as is demonstrated by Ratonhnhaké:ton throughout the game
But I maintain that he is still of mixed race, and so, as he’s been exposed to American society at large, he’s become only marginally more comfortable touching and being touched by others
What I mean to say, is that he definitely won’t be going in for a hug if he’s only just met you, but he’s slightly more willing to accept and return a cordial handshake
As far as further physical contact goes, the most he’s got is a clap on the shoulder for his homies and a bear hug if you’re his lady
I’m not super sure where my mind is in terms of age for Con-Con man for this set of headcanons, but I’m thinkin’ he’s late college age, so like 22 onward
That being said, Connor attended Dartmouth College and earned his Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering
He also minored in zoology, his focus being on canines, namely wolves
(I really wanted to say that he did something a little less rigid and attended a trade school, but I couldn’t reconcile that with his intended degree/career path 😭)
Taking into account his degree, I’d say Connor’s favorite subjects in school were…well, environmental science and, perhaps surprisingly, home economics
He was skilled at math and reasoning but wasn’t very fond of the curriculum, though he enjoyed the skill application aspect, and he was a very strong reader but just preferred to be more active and hands-on, so reading was done more so out of necessity for him instead of enjoyment
English is still his second language, but he speaks it better than a number of his peers
Since this is a modern!au, he’s comfortable enough with English to use contractions and rarely does he omit them from his speech
Connor has very pretty teeth, and a stunning smile
When he chooses to show it 🙃
You see it most often if you’re his best friend or his girlfriend
His mother sees it often as well
He has a somewhat strained relationship with his father, Haytham
He and Connor’s mother were married for a time but divorced when Connor entered adolescence
The split was amicable, and both Haytham and Ziio still hold love for each other
Connor, however, knows that the reason for the split is that Haytham was far too ambitious to ever settle down fully and live the life of a family man
Though still young when he and Ziio got married and had Connor, Haytham got antsy as both he and Connor grew older and Connor became more independent, and the older man couldn’t reconcile his desire to “be free” with his married home life
Connor resents him for that, as his mother, though she hid it well, was clearly heartbroken by the decision to divorce, even though it was mutual
Haytham does still provide for Ziio as she doesn’t work, and hasn’t for Connor’s entire life
He also offered to pay for Connor’s schooling, but it was fully covered by grants and scholarships so he declined
He didn’t want to owe his father anything anyway
So, in this modern!au, where does the name Connor originate from?
Well, Connor is an Irish name, derived from the word Conchobar, meaning “lover of hounds”
When Ziio was pregnant with Ratonhnhaké:ton and living with Haytham, they rescued an older dog that had been left injured and abandoned on the side of the road
Ziio, probably due to pregnancy hormones, felt an extreme call to help the poor animal and insisted that Haytham at least carry him to the vet
Begrudgingly, Haytham agreed, not wanting to upset his already delicate wife further
After getting the pup to the vet and following his treatment, Ziio decided she wanted to adopt the dog, as it seemed to have grown fond of her, in particular her belly, in the short time they’d spent in each other’s presence
Bringing the dog home, who the vet determined was a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog and about 7 years old at that point, Ziio and Haytham named him Noble
Noble kept by Kaniehtí:io’s side for the rest of her pregnancy and stayed close even as she gave birth at home
He immediately took to protecting and interacting with baby Ratonhnhaké:ton and the baby seemed completely unafraid of the pup
This inspired Haytham, who suggested the name Connor to Ziio, as he’d heard the name during one of his previous excursions overseas and thought it fitting for his common name
Ziio agreed, and the name has stuck ever since
Whew, now that we got that all squared away, back to Connor’s actual headcanons 🙃
You know, I don’t think Connor would be a stoner stoner, he would try a couple times and decide he likes the calming after-effect, but not the lack of alertness associated with the high
While we’re on the topic, he prefers brownies over cookies
Also, while Connor is a chocolate person, he prefers overall savory foods over sweet ones
Dark chocolate will always be his guilty pleasure treat though
Connor likes antiques and old cars, and so he drives a ‘76 Chevrolet Scottsdale that he bought from one of his mom’s friends, an older war veteran by the name of Achilles Davenport
Achilles acts as Connor’s pseudo-grandfather, and Connor spent many summers in his teenage years helping Mr. Davenport fix up his house- a large manor on the Massachusetts hillside- and, by way of Mr. Davenport’s tutelage, learning how to repair vehicles and hunt/track animals
Connor also worked a lot in his teenage years, and still continues to support himself, more out of a simple desire to be self-sufficient than anything else
When he wasn’t helping Achilles, he did some odd jobs here and there, before finally settling for some time as an apprentice for a land surveyor
Connor was quick to learn the skills associated with land surveying and impressed his boss so much that the man wrote him a stellar letter of recommendation when he applied to Dartmouth
He even offered to employ Connor full time once he graduated, but Connor politely declined the offer, saying that he wanted to do a little more job exploration before settling at one place
(The man was very understanding and assured Connor that if he ever decided he wanted to come back, there would always be a position open for him)
While in grade school, Connor was that guy that everyone loved and who was very, genuinely kind and helpful, but who also took no shit from anyone and would beat up bullies 😂
Everyone also knew he had a strong aversion to being touched and had a pretty severe case of RBF, but his puppy dog eyes and willingness to lend a helping hand was so precious they loved him anyway 😭
Speaking of RBF, his mom and dad both have serious cases as well, and that’s where he gets it from
He also just naturally has an extremely low tolerance for BS and it shows
Now ladies and gents, a rapid fire round of headcanons for Connor to wrap everything up in a neat little bow 😁
Rapid Fire Connor-Canons
He really enjoys karaoke
None of his friends have ever seen him with his hair down
Once when he was little, Connor wandered off on his own and followed a wolf back to her den, where he was subsequently amazed upon witnessing her tend to her cubs
He got in a whole heap of trouble upon being found and was forbidden from going outside period for like 3 months and couldn’t go outside unattended for a further 6
He thinks pineapple on pizza should be a crime punishable by an ass whoopin’
Learned parkour from A.) a lot of trial and error and B.) watchin’ a bunch a guys do tricks and stuff on Youtube
Tends to swear at people in his native language
Doesn’t like how jittery coffee makes him feel
Is ambidextrous but favors his left hand to throw and his right hand to write
At Haytham’s behest, Connor took archery and horseback riding classes from the ages of 10-13
He never competed, but was noted for his skill at both
Isn’t at all ashamed about the fact that he gets mani-pedis
Is teaching himself how to play the acoustic guitar
His favorite drink is the Arnold Palmer with unsweet tea
Lowkey cried the first time he watched Forrest Gump
Rage quits his video games 🙃
Is actually very civil when playing board games, and he loves Monopoly (he prefers the version with cash instead of card)
Has never screamed (like, as in a frightened scream, he yells at people all the time 🙃)
Adores dogs
And dogs are inexplicably drawn to him as well
Has a budget and sticks to it (like a baddie 💁🏾‍♀️💅🏾)
Overall, modern!Connor is a very respectable, well-rounded young man with bright prospects and a positive outlook 😁

Haytham Kenway x Reader
You an Haytham have been in the Templar Order for as long as you both can remember, both you and him remember being young, around 10 or 11 and being broken into the Order. You remember Haytham being broken into this. His father had been killed in the Kenway mansion, and yours were killed in a hurricane. You basically and literally grew up together at a young age. You two had a lot in common, no parents, older siblings, were the troublemakers in the family. And when the time came to kill the old Templar grandmaster. You held him down while Haytham killed him. Both of your minds were two halves of a whole, whatever you thought, he did too.
It broke your heart when you found out he had a lover and a child a few years back and he didn't tell you until he had Ratonhnhaké:ton come into the Order's base. You didn't talk to him for about a month, he had known when you got upset because he felt your heartbreak for some reason. He got angry after a while of you ignoring him and cornered you and demanded you tell him what he did to make you upset. You lied at first and he knew you were lying. You told another lie but this one was more convincing and he believed you.
You knew he loved the mohawk woman so you didn't interfere. You had lived with a broken heart for years until Ratonhnhaké:ton didn't come in for a while and Haytham no longer talked about Ziio. You had wondered what happened but you didn't get told anything. You were never to question, you got your orders and never questioned.
Back to the present, you and Haytham were sent on a mission to get rid of (E/N). You and him were standing above the church scouting out where your targets of information were. Haytham found them and pointed them out and turned and jumped off the building. Both of you parted ways to gather information. You stayed on top of the church for god knows how long. You were thinking about how to approach the targets, the first is a lumberjack has a history of being violent so you should be cautious. The second is a tavernwoman, she is known to carry weapons.
You think this over and decide you should go see the lumberjack first, you walk to the outskirts of Boston and start looking, now you don't have Eagle Vision like Haytham but you have a different 6th sense. It guides you to your goals like a little small blue trail on the ground. You follow the trail up to a brick house a little ways away from Boston. You walk up to the front door and knock. There's no sound or movement. You knock again. No answer. "Hello?" You ask. Still no answer. "I'm coming in!" You shout as you try to open the door, surprisingly it's open, the moment you open the door, the Lumberjack lunges at you with an axe over his head ready to attack.
You jump back and immediately go in defence mode. He swung at you again and you immediately dived into a roll behind him and kicked the back of his knee. He yelped in pain and quickly turned around to face you. "I just want some information!" You said quickly.
"I ain't givin' any!" He shouted as he swung at you again, you rolled your head to the side quickly enough, as the ace was lodged in the wood right where your head was a split second ago.
You kicked his chin as hard as you could, you heard a small crack. He let go of his axe and went to hold his chin, blood dribbled down to his chin, You must've broken a tooth or two. You immediately rolled up and dusted yourself off before you put your arms behind your back, mimicking Haytham to hopefully seem more intimidating.
"Are you ready to talk yet?" You asked in a pompous voice, trying to mimic Haytham again. The Lumberjack spit at your shoes, "I will take that as a no" You sighed before walking up to him and grabbing the scruff of his shirt and hauled him up and shoved him into the wall. "What about now?" You ask again. He curses at you, you sigh. "I wish it didn't have to come to this" You say before grabbing his hair and bashing his head into the wall a few times. You then haul him back up again and let your hidden blade slide out of the bracer and put the cold metal against his neck. "How about you tell me what you know before your usefulness thins and I get rid of you permanently." You say threateningly.
"Okay, okay, fine, only because you have a strong kick." He sighed as he spat out blood. "I know (he/she/they) are a redcoat, (he/she/they) are/is higher up the laddr' you need access to the barracks" He coughed. You smiled in satisfactory and pulled out a handkerchief and hand it to him. You retract your blade and dust off your clothes.
"Now that wasn't so hard now was it?" You say with a sickly sweet smile. "Now for the tavernwoman" You mumble as you walk out. Little did you know, the Lumberjack heard you. Once you left he immediately left and took his horse to the tavern to get there before you.
You gently opened the door and immediately froze. There was a double-barrel shotgun put to your forehead. You sighed and put your hands up behind your head. The Lumberjack, who is now all bandaged up, pushed you in the tavern, you stumbled but he held you up with an iron grip. "Now I heard of what you did to my friend 'ere" She hissed. "The jaw shot was a low move, now I know what you're here for, just letting you know now, you ain't getting what you're looking for." She said sternly.
"I am very persuasive" You said calmly. "How does gold sound?" You asked.
"I don't need gold that bad, try again." She huffed as she hit you in the top of the head with the butt of the shotgun. You gripped the top of your head as you fell to the floor.
"How about I settle your gambling debts?" You ask again. "How about I get you your children back? T-They were kidnapped right?" You asked. She faltered, you struck a nerve. "Me and my associates can get them back! Give me a few hours!" you pleaded as you sat up and held your hands in front of you in surrender.
"Three hours. You have three hours before we hunt you down and kill you." She said as she leaned on a table weakly. The Lumberjack walked over and pulled you up.
"Bring our children home ma'am, please, we will give you all the information you want to know" He said. It clicked in your head. They were a family, they were husband and wife. You nodded and ran out. You thought deeply of who and what you wanted to find, soon enough a small blue trail appeared before you.
You grabbed a horse and followed it. You followed it out of Boston, you followed it for over half an hour outside of Boston, it led you to a new-looking shack. You opened got off your horse and walked over to it and knocked you fixed your posture and put your hands behind your back, mimicking Haytham yet again. You see why he does this, it's fun!
The door was opened a few seconds later to reveal a teenage boy. You spoke. "Good day sir, I am (Y/N) (L/N) from Boston I am here to talk about two-" You were cut off by a door to the face. You looked confused. You knocked on the door again, no answer. Again, no answer. You sighed and walked around the house and found cellar doors. You opened them and walked in, you looked around and found very mundane things, crates, sacks of potatoes, flour.
You walked up the stairs and ended up into a kitchen you looked around and saw the teenage boy talking to two little kids, one boy, one girl. "Excuse me? You closed the door on me earlier, that wasn't very respectful." You said with a small head tilt.
"Get out!" The teenager yelled as he grabbed a cleaver and threw it at you. You stumbled out of the way. "I'm not giving them up! They are all I have left!" The teen shouted.
"What do you mean? Are they your siblings?" You ask. "What about your mother and father?" You ask again.
"They don't care about me! They gave me up to some order to train me for something!" He shouted. You froze.
"What was that order called?" You asked "Maybe I can make sure you don't go back there!" You said, inching closer.
"I-I don't know, they said one phrase" He explained. You thought carefully for your next question. You asked what they said and he started to try and remember what they said while you inched closer. "I think they said 'Nothing is True', I don't remember" He said looking back at you.
"Trust me, I am not with them, I won't take you back to them, I'm with the Templars. We go against the Assassins, we will make sure you are safe. But please, we need to take you back to your parents." You pleaded. He looked angry.
"No! I won't go back! My parents brought me to the Assassins because they didn't have the things to train me at home!" It clicked yet again. His parents were assassins. This could've been a trap! You were late to realize this because the door opened to reveal the Lumberjack and Tavernwoman. You look back at the children and they were smiling. You tense
"Shite." You mumble. "Look, I'm not going to harm anyone here if you let me leave, just let me walk out and no one will get hurt." You say, holding your arms in the air at your sides in surrender.
"You aren't going anywhere." The Lumberjack said. "Achilles will want to talk to you" He said grumpily.
"I am not going to tell any of you anything! I would rather die!" You shout before thinking. You pause. "W-Wait I didn't mean it like that." You stuttered before the Tavernwoman walked over and hit you over the head with the butt of her shotgun. You blacked out.

You wake up with bruises and blood littering your body. You look around and go to speak to see if anyone can hear you. You couldn't speak. It hurt your throat. You quickly came to the conclusion that you had been screaming. You put the pieces together and realize what went on. You sigh and go to sit up but you are in pain.
You didn't know how long you had been laying there. Hopefully Haytham was alright, you weren't one to wish for a knight in shining armour but at the moment, you are right now. You are in so much pain, you are dehydrated from crying. You are just plain and simply tired.
You wished for Haytham to find you. Or even Shay, maybe Charles (Lee). God you wouldn't complain if Thomas (Hickey) found you. You just wanted out.
You were about to fall back into the sweet world of unconsciousness when banging on the front door startled you. You tried to get up but yet again were unable to. Your muscles had tensed up from lack of use. You sighed and tried again and would've cried out in pain, but you still couldn't use your voice. You kept trying to call out and only got out small hushed words.
You soon enough gave up and almost let the darkness consume your vision but multiple gunshots made you aware of what had gone on. You jolted when the door to the cellar opened and two sets of footsteps had followed. "Oh (Y/N), what have you gotten yourself into?" A very pompous voice said. Haytham.
You felt two arms pick you up gently. You opened your eyes and was met with a navy blue suit. You knew it was Haytham, as soon as you heard the footsteps you knew it was him. You mumbled out his name in relief with a sigh. You barely shifted and leaned against him.
"I knew I should have sent Charles with you" He sighed. "Just hang in there and we will get you help." You mumbled an 'mhm' and just relaxed. You felt safe. Haytham kissed your forehead. You opened your eyes and looked at him and smiled. He smiled back and walked out of the shack and over to his and everyone else's horses(yours not included). John (Pitcairn) was holding the reigns to your horse. Haytham handed you to Charles before getting up on his horse. Charles handed you back to Haytham. You got comfortable again as they rode back to Boston.
"Um, (Y/N), Grandmaster?" Hickey asked.
"Yes Thomas?" Haytham asked as you shifted to look at him.
"So we've all been talking.." He started. "Have both of you ever thought of courting?" Haytham looked confused and was about to say something but Thomas cut him off. " 'ear me out, Have both of you not seen the way you look at each other? And (Y/N), 'ave you not realized that 'aytham came to find you, the moment you didn't show up to where you were supposed to be meetn'? he lost it and started searchin'." Thomas explained. Haytham's cheeks dusted pink in embarrassment. Your cheeks went red. "And Haytham, have you not realized (Y/N) has been pining over you for years since we've all been togethr' guaranteed even longr'" Thomas said.
Your face was red, redder than before. "Continue on men, we shall catch up soon enough." Haytham said as the guys snickered and continued on on horse. Once they were out of earshot. Haytham looked down at your red face. "Is this true (Y/N)?" he asked.
You didn't answer, nor look at him. He sighed and made you look at him. His strikingly blueish silver eyes looked into your gentle (E/C) ones. You noticed his face get closer and closer to yours.
You felt his rough chapped lips on your swollen ones. He kissed you gently and passionately. You kissed back and barely moved your arms to gently grip the front of his one-shoulder cape.
He pulled away and chuckled. "Come on, love." He said as he put some pressure on the horse's side and continued on the way to Boston. Both of you eventually caught up with the other Templars and they started to laugh and clap at seeing you cling to Haytham.
"Cough it up Charles." Thomas chuckled as Charles sighed and pulls out a coin purse and handed it to Thomas. You let out a weak chuckle and stay clung onto Haytham as you all ride back to Boston. This is definitely what a little wishing can do.

Note
I don't know if you've already done this but what are your headcanons about our main assassins as monsters/mystical creatures and how they would become said creatures ?
Altaïr - genie - given that he has the apple of eden in canon i think being a genie makes sense and i don’t mean the aladdin type i mean more like a spirit in its mesopotamian origins - just born like that
since altaïr is also strongly associated with wisdom he could be a griffin or a sphinx
ezio - vampire - maybe it’s cuz he’s italian but major vampire vibes, i feel like vampires would have killed the men in his family and then a vampire bit him but for whatever reason he didn’t die he only ended up turning into a vampire OR his dad was a vampire so ezio turned out to be one too and when they all died he ended up alone as a (half?) vampire
the kenways - werewolves - it just makes so much sense as they’re all aggressive and brutal in their fighting alike to werewolves, maybe when edward was travelling he got bit by a werewolf or something and now it’s a hereditary thing
if not werewolves i’d imagine their some sort of scaly/lizard creature like a sea serpent for edward, basilisk for haytham, connor im not sure tbh i can’t answer why or how they turned into one of those that’s why i’m sticking to werewolves
arno - this is really hard actually i think because some of the ones i would choose are just women (i was gonna say harpy) so i’ll have to say a gorgon - i think the idea that he’s practically lost all his close in his life gorgon can be fitting since he gets to ‘permanently’ keep them close to him and he won’t lose them, probably got cursed by a god like medusa (i think in the original story she was born a gorgon tho)
jacob and evie - whenever i think of them and myths i think of apollo and artemis the personalities just fit and they’re twins but since you said creatures maybe griffins? or centaurs like chiron who are very smart i just get the feeling they’d be the wise creatures so i’m gonna say griffin cuz they’re fast and quick with their kills - born that way
bayek - i mean this guy fought gods so in myths he’d be like a warrior like hercules or something but as a creature maybe a phoenix? or specifically Bennu, the bird of fire said to be one of Ra’s families, both phoenix and Bennu have the rebirth characteristics and i think fire is just the best element for bayek (hence why i hc him as Hephaestus in a greek god au)
kassandra - well given she canonically fights mythological creatures and deities it makes things a little harder, maybe typhon, the last child of Gaia and the ‘father of all monsters’, he’s basically like the strongest creature, otherwise minotaur? though i swear she does kill one, i just think something angry and aggressive suits her since rage is a large part of her character - born that way
oh my god mass could literally be a valkyrie it’s norse mythology but it literally works so well wtf
eivor - well if they’re not odin then probably fenrir, i think big and powerful are key factors of eivor so i can’t see eivor as anything else but somehow related to the gods

Hidden Gem Chapter 8
HERE IT IS! THE NEW CHAPTER! I’m already working on chapter 9 so expect that the next week :) hopefully.... Thank you for your patience though and I hope you guys enjoy.
Things went wrong.
REALLY wrong.
Connor didn’t expect to be called a liar after chasing HIckey and getting caught with him, he didn’t expect to be knocked out, and he DEFINITELY didn’t expect to wake up behind bars at the end of this mission.
“Have Hickey moved. I wish to speak with our Assassin.”
“Yes sir.”
Connor looked from his bed at the man before him. The one he always saw a portrait of in the bunker of the homestead. Once the other Templars left Connor broke the silence.
“Father.”
“You have your mother’s eyes.” Haytham smiled, “Son.”
Connor only glared, “Do not speak of her. You have NO right.”
“And you had no right to take that girl with you to that homestead of yours now did you?” Haytham bit back.
“She wanted nothing to do with you. She was terrified of even grasping the idea of being free!” Connor yelled, “The fact that she wanted to go back at one point out of fear from you! You brainwashed her!”
“Her future was set before her! She was set to live a comfortable life with her future husband! I raised her to be the future of Templar ideology and then you came in with your crew and almost botched everything!” Haytham seethed.
Connor smirked but it left as soon as it came, “Almost?”
Haytham sighed, “She belongs with us Connor.”
Connor stood up and charged up to the cell bars, “The homesteaders will help protect her. We are her new family! She belongs with us! She belongs with m-”
A guard rushed in interrupting the conversation, “Sir! Shay requests your presence urgently. He says that she has begun to wake up.”
Connors eyes dilated.
“Excellent.” Haytham turned and began to walk away, “Seems like things will go as planned in the end.”
“LEAVE HER BE!!!” Connor yelled out as he gripped the bars hard.
Haytham stopped and looked back, “Why would I?” he noticed his son’s expression and smirked, “Perhaps because you’ve fallen for her?”
Connor beat the cell bars as Haytham walked away.
He needed to get out of here. Fast.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You began to wake up but the drowsiness was making the room spin a bit.
“Finally awake.”
Your eyes widened and the drowsiness was replaced by fear.
“Why did you not come back my dear.” Haytham set down his tea cup and stood up, “We were really worried about you.”
“I...” you remembered the homestead and the courage that you had gained but when you looked at the sternness of his eyes you hesitated, “I- I want to stay!”
“Stay?” Haytham dryly chuckled, “After all this planning.” He ran his fingers through your hair and you began to feel his grip tighten, “My dear. You WILL get on that ship. You WILL go to France. And you WILL bring forth the future generation of Templars WITH SHAY!”
You felt your eyes prickle but found your voice, “NO I WON’T! I LOVE CONNOR!”
Haytham’s nostrils flared as he grabbed both your shoulders but then you saw his shoulders vibrate from laughter, “Out of all the people.” He muttered, “How is it you fell for my son? I mean, I understand that the Kenways are quite the lookers but really, what were the chances?”
Your eyes widened, “Son?”
“I see he kept a secret from you, but none of that really matters.” He stood up straight, “He will be executed today.”
You stood up from the bed with a start but Haytham glared, “SIT BACK DOWN!”
You bit your lip and you felt your bottom lip quiver, “Why?”
“Why what?” Haytham asked exasperated.
“Why me? Why did you find me when I was a child?” you whispered.
“This is the thanks I get then?” Haytham rolled his eyes and sighed exasperatedly, “Your parents were killed and I decided to take you in. Nothing more, nothing less.”
You looked up pleading, “Who? Who killed them? For what reason?!”
Haytham shrugged, “That’s all I know.”
You were about to say something when Shay came into the room and gave Haytham a note, “The execution has been done sir.”
Haytham read it and looked up, “I see. Take (Y/N) and go.”
Shay looked at you, “It’s time la-.”
Distraught. You fell to the floor on your knees completely distraught. You felt your body shake as you sobbed and hugged yourself.
Shay kneeled down and gently placed his hand on your shoulder, “I know what it’s like to lose someone you care about.”
You shook your head refusing his condolences. Shay looked at Haytham and Haytham simply tilted his head towards the door as a sign for him to take you and leave.
“Have a safe journey Shay.” Haytham said.
“I will sir.” Shay gave Haytham one last nod as he picked you up bridal style and took you to his ship.
“I promise to take care of you lass. This is all for your own good.”

Valentine's Day/Romantic Tropes headcanon
Altair Ibn La'ahad, Malik Al-Sayf, Ezio Auditore, Yusuf Tazim, Edward Kenway, James Kidd/Mary Read, Haytham Kenway, Shay Patrick Cormac, Connor Kenway, Arno Dorian, Elise de la Serre, Jacob Frye, Evie Frye, Shaun Hastings, Desmond Miles
Warnings - canon typical mentions of death and violence, cliché romance tropes, angst with a side of fluff, mentions of alcoholism, mentions of paranormal, some are happy endings and some are sad, implied mentions of intimacy
Word Count - 5550 words.
Description - A collective, detailed headcanon on which tropes fit the assassin's creed characters best.
Authors Note - What's this?? A surprise early valentine's day post?? Okay, so I realized directly after posting the assassin's and templar's love languages that it would've been the most perfect Valentine's post. Too little, too late I guess, so I decided to do something along the lines of romance - and the idea of what tropes the assassin's (and templars) would fit best? I tried to make it canon-based, so I picked solely on if it fits the characters in their original storyline. It made more sense in my head, to be honest with you, but I hope you enjoy this anyways. And have a happy (early) valentine's day, if you celebrate! (also if you've read all of these and there's a character you'd like to be talked about more, maybe you should shoot me an ask?)
Now listen okay, enemies to lovers seems like the obvious choice for Altair, right? I'm well aware of this, but you have to admit that the trope fits well for a reason. Especially canonically, you get your typical Altair arrogant attitude, and a redemption arc, and with fanfic, a love story? It's everything a person could need. So - with that being said, as we well know at the beginning of his story, Altair is a bit arrogant. And it seems like he always goes out of his way to be even more so when you're involved. You were supposed to go on the mission with him, Kadar, and Malik, but he'd made sure that you weren't there. Not out of concern, more so just because he could. The loss of Kadar is great, and you wished that Altair being knocked down a peg didn't cost someone else's life. It's so typical of his personality, at least to you - to act as though he'd done nothing wrong, that it makes you physically ill to look at him. Not much changes between the two of you for a while, not until Al Mualim is dead and Altair is at the base more frequently. Meanwhile, you continue to avoid him like the plague. You're not entirely unconvinced he's not the same person he was before. It's something of a slow process, and not even one either of you attempts to make, just something that inevitably happens. Maybe it's the way he genuinely speaks to you, not at you while giving a mission, or the way his eyes seem softer than they did before. Or is that he says something so dry and deadpan it makes you laugh before you can even consider if you should - and instead of a scolding look or reprimand, there's a hint of a smile on his lips. Before you can even process it, you're his first choice on a risky mission. Without a thought, you instinctively look towards him to see his reaction first. You can't recall when it happened, but it hits out of the blue, with him across the courtyard and your eyes glued to him. The person you dreaded seeing the most was suddenly the person you cared most for.
Malik is most definitely coworkers to lovers. Honestly, before he lost his arm and brother, you didn't know much about him. He was pretty high up there in terms of status in the Brotherhood, so you knew of him, just not him personally. Malik was always pretty stoic, at least in comparison with Kadar, who you did know somewhat. It was always a little unnerving, but now there was a certain feeling of sympathy attached to it. When you were placed on an assignment and had to report to his bureau you were less than enthusiastic, simply because you didn't know what to say. This was all well and good, as Malik was straight to the point and, for the most part, acted his normal self. You were stationed near there for the remainder of Altair's visits there, simply to avoid any conflict between the two with a mediator. For the most part, you commended Malik's resilience, you doubted you would have the restraint he did with the man who was partly responsible for Kadar's death. You told him so one night when you perhaps should've kept your mouth shut. Instead of a reprimand, you got a quiet nod, and not much else was said on the matter. From then on though, Malik spoke up more to you, discussed things that he thought were interesting around the city and you would check them out. You suggested once, that he come with you, and despite the Brotherhood having stationed him doing paperwork, he followed you. Luckily it was nothing major, but the trip was a fond memory. You talked, for the most part, about the city you had come to know as a home for the past few months. You knew you'd be leaving soon though, to go back to Masyaf soon. By the time you were back in the Assassin state, there was something unsaid between the two of you. Luckily, it wouldn't be long before he would find you again, unbeknownst to either of you at the time. It would be then that your feelings would be realized and acknowledged, and a real relationship would start around then.
Love at first sight? Absolutely. Ezio falls in love with people at first sight. I think especially when he was younger - his heart is something he gives freely when he feels something. For most people he's with, it's not even necessarily love that he feels, just infatuation or lust. When he first sees you, he's a younger man. He knows you're something, someone special. It's not something he can quite put a name on, it feels like it could be love someday, except your eyes never find him and you never have that special love at first sight moment. You play on his mind for weeks, but truly you were just passing through Florence, and Ezio slowly accepts that maybe it wasn't meant to be. The love at first sight moment happens after the fall of Monteriggioni after Ezio finds himself in Rome. The young boy who gave his heart to you without your knowledge, that knew you'd be important without knowing when finds himself again as he stares at you wide-eyed and in disbelief. That same feeling takes over him, though he's not sure he believes it fully yet. The loss of his Uncle, of his father and brothers, of a city he cared deeply for, changed him deeply. Ezio feels that overwhelming love, your importance to him in whatever form it may be - and knows that he can't, won't let you go. Not again, and as he moved against the crowds, he tries to catch your eye. It's there, that your eyes finally find his that he knows he's come to the when of it, that the feeling that didn't totally make sense now completely finally does. And within that few seconds, he becomes entranced, addicted to basking in your gaze after only a few moments. And you, the moment leaves you feeling like he's someone you knew maybe, or that you should've known. Ezio smiles at you, one that you easily return though you half wonder why, though there's an undeniable connection. It feels easy and familiar, like deja vu almost, and as he comes nearer to you, the feeling doesn't go away.
Yusuf most definitely has a shared past with you. I feel like it could almost be considered right person wrong time, but it's more so that at the time you were together neither of you was the person you should've been together. It wasn't anything awful really, just that even though Yusuf is older than you, he was never meeting your emotional needs, always acting immature. That's how you always remembered him, though not with malice or anger, but with a fondness. Part of you now looking back wished he kept just a little bit of that childishness and wondered what he was doing now. It was one of those weird moments, there was always plenty of opportunities to run into each other, the city wasn't that big and yet - it wasn't until a couple of years later that you saw him again. A pleasant surprise for both of you, neither can help but want to catch up with each other. The hours you spend talking, filling the spaces of your lives that were separate from each other leave you wondering why you'd ever left each other to begin with. It stays mostly friendly between the two of you until Yusuf asks if you'd ever married. His eyes are too hopeful, warm brown eyes of the person you cared for the most when you were younger that still held a mischievous glint. No, you'd never married, for one reason or another - you don't miss the grin that takes over his face easily. You return the question, hopeful that he hadn't either. The grin softens, and he tells you that he hadn't. It surprises you that he hadn't teased you about it, or made a joke of some sort as he was apt to do. It shocks you, even more, when he says something along the lines of always having loved you, and not wanting that connection with another person - at least not the way yours was. Your cheeks heat up, but you don't deny him the reassurance that you felt the same.
With Edward, I feel like the trope that fits best would be learning to love again. His first marriage obviously dealt some damage, and post that fallout, he really doesn't do the romance part of relationships. When you come into his life, even though there is a physical relationship, there's not much outside of that. It takes months before an actual relationship begins to develop, although Edward convinces himself that it's a friendship before anything else. It's something of an eventuality, where it kind of hits him out of the blue that you're much more than a friend. Maybe you're side by side on the Jackdaw, or walking down the streets of Nassau. Maybe you're unaware of the moment or have been yearning for him to feel the same as you do, but he's looking at you like he's not quite there. More than anything it's startling for him - feeling something like the beginnings of love makes him nervous, the fear of getting hurt again and losing you completely is not something he's willing to do. So, he does what he does best and pulls away. Which is dumb, but he can't help himself. Edward's not the type to talk unless you make him, which is hard to do when he has an actual ship that he can leave on at any given moment. If you give him space, he'll take it with no hesitation. Out of sight out of mind is the creed he follows in this situation, but he can't deny that he misses you. Or that he looks for you perched on some crates in the ship, and that he misses your teasing tone directed at him. It isn't until something happens where your life is in danger, rumors of a life-threatening injury, possibly even death, make their way across the Caribbean to him that he realizes how stupid it was to just leave. There's a new fear, an ache deep in his gut that because of the physical distance he put between the two of you, there was no way he would ever see you again, that it was too late. When he storms the beaches of Nassau looking for you, or even some of your shared acquaintances, it's not the actions of a bloodthirsty lunatic looking to avenge you, it's a desperate man looking for another chance. It isn't until he sees you, in the pub you both used to frequent sipping an ale that he slows, though his heartbeat doesn't. When his fingers meet your wrist, tugging you close, he doesn't quite believe you're really here in front of him. He questions you momentarily, asking if you're alright - and you're quick to return the question because of the two of you, Edward's the one who looks like he's lost his mind. It matters little that you're surrounded by colleagues and friends, he's quick to tell you how much you matter to him, and there's something of a promise that leaving you is something he'd never do willingly again.
It was always forbidden, between you and Mary. Although that's not her trope, no, it's something more paranormal than anything. Even when you knew her as James Kidd, it was never something you could have. Was that what attracted you to it in the first place? Maybe, at the beginning at least. How it evolved, however, the two of you became so deeply entangled, it could be called love in another life. When she died, it felt like part of you died with her. For months you lived in your grief, knowing nothing else besides it. All-consuming as it was, what was worse was the what-ifs. What if you'd been bolder with your love, with your affection? What if you hadn't had to hide it? What if you'd asked her not to follow Rackham with Anne? What if, what if, what if? Memories of quiet mornings, her sharing secrets with you that she never shared with anyone else, passionate nights spent hidden away from prying eyes. Each remembrance started bleeding into your dreams, though it wasn't the memory exactly. They were new, fresh ones as if Mary were still living and breathing right beside you. You'd stayed in bed for weeks, not wanting to wake from the false reality you'd created for yourself - one where she was still there with you. There, her fingers were softer than they ever were here. If the two of you ever were drinking there, her face remained the same muted skin tone, not the warm flush of pink that donned her nose and cheeks. On nights you felt more aware of the fact that it wasn't quite real, but not necessarily a dream, you'd ask her who she was. It was a question you never quite got an answer to, just a smirk that felt misplaced from her, or a chuckle that was a note deeper than it should've been. Quick to brush it off though, and remiss to leave the world and your person behind, you cherished the moments that you'd never gotten to have with her there.
It's not necessarily shocking that Haytham is absolutely the forbidden trope. There's something about him where it fits too perfectly, I think. For most things, he's always been the type to earn what he wanted, to take it if need be. But there's something about the things he simply cannot have that makes him want it more. You were raised in Boston, working at the pub your family had owned for quite some time. Growing up you were unaware of the clientele that frequented, though you were quickly learning the types that came into the bar, and the groups they were a part of. Your family favored some over others, agreed with their belief systems, and liked the business they brought. When Haytham came over to America, establishing his presence there became in part, coming to your tavern. It wasn't the one he preferred to work at, but there were rumors of Assassin's frequenting it, so it was simply a point of intrigue. What was preferable, however, was you, behind the bar - a warm smile directed at him, thinly covering a layer of distrust. To be fair, there was a sneaking suspicion of him - you'd known most of the local Assassin's, and not one of them ever mentioned another that was supposed to be here. But the familiar insignia and gauntlet on his forearm confused you further, though you said little of it. When he spoke to you, there was a want to believe him - his tone light, yet authoritative that was quick to send shivers down your spine. To be near him was somewhat intoxicating, the type of infatuated that only drunks seemed to be, and in the pit of your stomach you knew you couldn't trust him. He's never been one to give up, and he's certainly got you in his sights.
This is entirely not shocking, but I believe Shay's trope would be a marriage of convenience. And it's not because he doesn't have a lot of love to give, he absolutely does, and it's also not for lack of trying, because have you seen that man? He could hold the door open one time with a smile and have you swooning for him. (also is this biased because I've kind of written something along the lines of Shay marrying for convenience? yes mind your business!!!) Okay, the way I see it, you're engaged to him before you've even met him. Let's say your parents are trying to climb their way up the Templar ranks, and his status and closeness with Haytham are desirable. Not only because they want to succeed, but they also want you to succeed. And you're nervous beyond anything because you know how Charles Lee is and the thought of marrying anyone in the least bit similar is reprehensible to you. There's not much you can do with your parent's strong will - and if you'd up and left the repercussions would be dangerous for them - and yourself as well. For the months in which he remains away, you can't sleep. Tossing and turning all night long becomes routine, and the bags under your eyes begin to peek through. Your parents notice, more so when the looming threat of him coming to meet you appears and the plans become solid - each day your anxieties get worse and worse. They swear to you to give him a chance, they knew him once before he'd left America to complete Templar business worldwide. And you do, but not for yourself as much as it is for them. When you first lay eyes on him the most shocking thing is that he's attractive. You'd been expecting a Lee type, but his eyes are warm and there's a constant smile dancing at the corners of his mouth. More than anything he seems happy to be here, though you're not sure if the promise of a younger fiancé is the cause. You are awkward at best, unsure of your place in things. Little moments in which he locks eyes with you and gives you a reassuring smile calm the anxieties that overwhelmed you completely. and though it's not a grand sweeping romance you may have dreamed of, it seems that there is more than enough room for love between the two of you.
I had a thought right, where Connor meets one of Haytham's accomplices during the missions where they work together, right? It's a very Romeo and Juliet situation. So, you're one of the Templars, and while you don't understand the Grand Master's thought process of working with Connor, you're not going to say anything about it. You simply do as told, and you find that you don't mind working with the Assassin all that much. Besides your extreme differences in beliefs, the two of you work well together. Sure, in the beginning, it's awkward, and there's a lot of distrust between the two of you. But eventually, the more you work together, the better the two of you function together. And there's a thought, a what-if, one night when he's tending to you with a small battle wound, that leaves you reeling for weeks, doubting everything you've ever known. But it's not something that's ever really expounded on, and certainly not something you'd bring up with the group you'd surrounded yourself with. And Haytham had trusted you, with the secret of his son, and with you being on the missions even alone sometimes - the thought of accidentally falling in love with his son left you feeling like you'd betrayed the order. And whether you're acting odd - skittish even - or seemingly distancing yourself from the Order, your Grand Master is quick to notice. But he notices even more on a mission he's joined you on, the way the two of you work in tandem, the way Connor freezes when you're knocked on the ground and only resumes when you're up again, and the way you smile at him, even though the threat of death lurked in the shadows. You know he knows, without even a word shared between the two of you, that you're in love with his son, and he with you, despite all odds. It's a mercy, that he gives you an option (perhaps the man has become sentimental in his old age) that you can fake your death, cutting all contact with Connor, or Haytham can kill you himself. You take the first option begrudgingly, and for months you live under the radar. It's not till the old man's death that you find him in a tavern next to Charles Lee, completely frozen in your spot, unable to breathe. When his eyes find you, his expression matches yours, and he's reluctant to touch you. There's an undeniable hurt laced in his tone as he utters your name. There's a lot of explaining to do on your end, but the fact that you're here, alive and in front of him? He'll be by your side regardless.
You're gonna tell me Arno Dorian isn't the King of a good, old-fashioned love triangle? To start with the basics, of him already loving Elise, and having loved her since childhood, he's not expecting to fall in love with anyone new anytime soon. Even when they're on opposite sides, he's still without a doubt in love with her. Especially when he's exiled, living in Versailles, which is where you meet him. His reputation precedes him there, but you recall the boy you vaguely knew many years ago. Something about his situation breaks your heart whenever you see him. It really takes a few simple acts of kindness to earn his trust, which is shocking to you. Perhaps because you knew him, though not well, before everything in his life turned upside down, but he clung to you once you proved your worth. In drunken stupors he would confess his love to you, forgetting everything he said come morning. And still, you found yourself caring for him anyway. The words he whispered when drunk, though not to be believed, held your heart in a chokehold. It hurt more than it helped, that you wished he would remember how he felt, that he would look at you and think of someone worthy of love. And while Arno does love you, in a sort of twisted way, he also loves Elise. He loved you when you read to him, your voice melodically reading the words as he nursed a hangover. He loved the way you looked at him, with hope in your eyes and bated breath. He loved to come from the pubs and kiss you because it felt right and eased the abonnement he'd felt better than booze. If it were a contest of who held Arno's heart more, it was clear you weren't the winner. Some days you were okay with the love you did receive, and others, not so much. When Elise finally made her way to collect him, there was no doubt she thought you enabled the behavior. If only she'd seen him at the beginning of his exile - you were slowly drawing him out of the hole she'd dug him in - or at least that's how you viewed it. It wasn't shocking when he'd followed her to Paris, though it hurt more than you cared to admit. Still, part of you hoped he'd make his way back to you someday.
Clearly, I'm a sucker for tragedy. And, true to form, Elise is no different settling entirely on the right person, no time. It was something undeniable from the moment you laid eyes on her. You didn't know how, or why, you just knew that you would love her for all of your days. It took a moment, for you to convince her that it was something along the lines of meant to be. In between the two of you, she is more of a realist, guiding you back to the ground with a gentle reminder. The beginning was all passion, every shared moment spent with the intent to have more tomorrow's. It was a breath of a fresh air, being with Elise. You couldn't deny that you'd follow her to the ends of the earth, so long as her eyes twinkled with the promise of adventure. There was something to be said of the way she could convince you to do anything without her even asking you to. But regardless of what you'd hoped for, the plans you'd whisper to each other over pillows and under sheets, your world would stop spinning not long after she took her last breath. It was something you'd only just begun to be aware of, her life's work involved with the Templars. To come out of the world the two of you painstakingly built for yourselves was beyond impossible - only to face the reality that your person that you'd loved so much was nothing more than a memory.
I firmly believe Jacob needs a partner in crime. To be fair, you were in the London crime scene long before Jacob ever made his way to the city. He's an opportunist at best, and he couldn't deny he envied your power and authority. The first option was to take it from you and try as he did, you were not relinquishing it to some boy from the country. No, instead you took the opportunity to teach him, show him the ropes. Which was fairly generous of you considering where he started. It didn't take long for him to catch on, and he gained popularity with a group he began calling the blighters. You didn't mind, not really, he wasn't a threat to you. In fact, you didn't mind reminding him that you could take whatever power he had away whenever he got too cocky. As his own group grew, an alliance formed. It was working out fairly well for the two of you, and meetings between both of you turned into drinks at the pub turned into nights shared. From the first night spent together, your dynamic shifted. You tried to reason that it was a one-time occasion and avoided being alone with him as much as possible for weeks afterward. It was harder to deal with him than you usually would. When it happened again, there was no denying that there was something between you two, and while you figured the new relationship out, things were especially strained. Jacob had a difficult time learning that while you were together, it didn't earn him a right to go about demanding things of you. It wasn't fair to you, you had a lot more people to keep happy and alive than Jacob's ever-changing will. After a while, the learning process weaned and your groups flourished once more. There were rumors of the two of you being together intimately, which you didn't bother dignifying, though Jacob couldn't help but let onto it. Which was fine by you, for the most part, it didn't gain or lose respect amongst your group, and you cared little what Jacob's Blighters thought of it. Eventually, though, his group got used to it too.
Evie is the type to sort of ease into a relationship like it's definitely a friends-to-lovers scenario. It's not something she seeks out. No, it's sort of a surprise. Like one day, she'll look at you, her friend, and realize she doesn't want to spend another moment pretending she doesn't love you. I think she's sort of intense, the way she loves, and innocent too? Since it's so unexpected for her, she never thought of a romantic attraction the way she has with you. In becoming an Assassin, she figured it wasn't in the cards for her. Almost resigning herself to the fact that she would likely live alone for the rest of her life. When she met you, she was grateful for your friendship - already feeling less alone than she did previously. You became routine in the best way possible, in that seeing you was something she looked forward to every week, and then every other day, and then every day. It happened so gradually, you almost didn't see it either, though you felt it. You felt it in the way you wished she was there on an especially long trip away, you felt it when she'd told you the truth about her life and her work and her beliefs, you felt it in the way you'd find yourself standing close to her, arms brushing in a way that felt more than friendly though without a name. And while you might expect a big scene immediately (a proposal of feelings maybe?) that seems more Jacob's route. No, Evie doubts every interaction, wonders constantly if you feel the same as she does. Outwardly, some may never know the thoughts that ran rampant through her mind, acting normal as ever. You though, who has spent countless hours and time together can see clearly that something is off, though she's trying to deny it. It's subtle instead, flowers gifted between the pages in your book, all deliberately picked and placed - each flower with meaning she hopes you'll understand. Meanwhile, you're thinking how you're overthinking it, that, of course, she didn't pick a rose because she loves me, we're friends?? It's not until the two of you are alone, in private, that she kisses you, soft and gentle and romantically sweet, that you two finally and completely understand.
Shaun is absolutely a teacher at heart. So it's not far off that his trope would be learning to love. It's always been a passion of his, learning things and storing the knowledge up. Not many want to hear what he has to say, and that's alright only because he's used to it. Then you, a hopeful recruit come along. At first, you're nothing more than a nuisance. He's not used to the attention you're willing to give him, the way your eyes gleam at him when he mentions something about the history of the Brotherhood has him rolling his eyes before he can stop himself. At first, he doesn't want to stop himself, especially when he can't ignore you entirely. But you wear him down, after all, you're nothing if not persistent, and he's not going to ignore the fact that he likes when you ask a question he can answer easily. Rebecca is the first to notice - maybe even before either one of you does. That you linger for a moment, despite having asked all possible questions, and that the second your back is turned towards him, he's looking to where you were as if waiting for one more question. It becomes entirely too apparent when you're on a mission, captured by Abstergo long enough that they're not sure if they can get you back - and if they do, who you'll be after. The next time he sees you, you're a shell of the person you used to be. The light you had in your eyes was dim, almost nonexistent. For weeks, Shaun makes it his mission to come to you. Your positions reversed, it would've been sweet if it weren't so painful. Instead, he asks you questions, quiet ones, about your life before you became an assassin, and when you became more cognizant and more willing, he asks questions about what happened to you there. The day he feels true hope, is when you overhear a conversation between him and William Miles outside your room. He fully expects to begin asking you questions but you stop him before he sets foot in the door. Out of the blue, in a quiet voice he's still not used to, he hears your inflection and a question fall from your lips.
Desmond Miles is the first love trope. It's a relationship that you don't choose, it chooses you. You meet him in New York City, not long after he first moves there. There's something about the way he seems so unsure of himself, he's not even fresh out of high school and he seems so incredibly lost. More than anything it's endearing, and you find yourself drawn to him. The first day you met him, you skipped an entire day of classes just to show him around the city. Your heart breaks when you hear that he doesn't have a place to go - and you find yourself begging your parents before you can help yourself. They agree, though it's only a temporary solution, and they ask more questions than Desmond can take - he doesn't stay long there. To be fair, he doesn't tell you much either about his past, his childhood. It's not until he's older, twenty or so before he makes jokes about it, never serious enough for you to fully understand the depth of the situation. Still, you two stick by each other. He gets an apartment by himself and to your parent's dismay, your college choice is based on wherever Desmond was going to be. It's not even that they didn't like him, because they did, it's just the mysterious aura you found to be alluring was concerning to them. When Abstergo kidnapped him, you assumed he left in the dead of night. For too long, you waited for him to come back, though he never would. Your parents figured that this would happen, honestly more shocked it took him so long to. It would've been without a trace, his life in New York if it weren't for the baby.

Here's an idea I think you might enjoy: animus but Des is in their head, controlling them. They can feel it and talk to him and everything, ratatouille style.
……………… You know what would be funny, nonny?
If Desmond sucks at controlling them.
Like, we’ve heard the rites of passage in AC games:
We make them jump instead of doing a leap of faith
We accidentally make them climb the wrong high building and the actual viewpoint is the tower next to it
We miscalculate a jump and fall into the waters below or into an unsuspecting civilian
And there’s the game specific problems I refuse to believe I’m the only one who suffered thru it.
So just imagine Desmond trying to control them in the Animus and they know they’re being controlled.
There’s this… change in the air around them. It feels more charged. More… mysterious.
And they also become clumsier for some goddamn reason.
Incidents include:
Altaïr falling into the waters in the docks of Acre for the fifteenth time and he just hisses under his breath, “What is wrong with you?! Do you enjoy seeing me wet?!” and Desmond’s just “Dude, your control sucks!” which leads to Altaïr having an argument with Desmond under his breath about how his ‘control’ (whatever that means) does not suck, Desmond just sucks at this thing he likes to call ‘platforming’ and they both just agreed that, yeah, okay, they’re gonna assassinate Sibrand by going around instead even if it meant Altaïr had to walk slowly and pretend to be praying the entire time.
Altaïr breathing heavily as he glared at the ten (nope, five more guards found him in open combat, damn it) guards trying to kill him. One of them stepped forward and raised his sword. Altaïr readied himself and he still got hit, “(Growl)! Desmond! Get your timing right!” “Your Hidden Blade counter timing is too fast, Altaïr! Let’s just use your swor-” “No! You will learn how to counter using the hidden blade or, I swear, I will find a way to control you and drill it to your body myself!” (Guards just glance at each other, thinking “oh shit, he’s insane”)
Ezio just staring into the sky as he places his hands on his waist as he called out, “Desmond! How about we try this again later?” “No! I almost got it!” “……… It’s been an hour, Desmond. Let’s try clearing this tomb after-” “No! We’re gonna get that Armor today if it’s the last thing we do! Just… this goddamn time limit is annoying! Time limit sucks!” Ezio who is already used to the mysterious voice (who calls himself Desmond)’s strange words: “………… (sigh)”
“I can take them out. Desmond, please, I’m begging you, let me take them out. I can do-” (Desmond takes control and Ezio watches as his recruits take down the targets) The recruits looking at Ezio for approval. Ezio: Bene, that was a good takedown. (inside, Ezio is just tired because Desmond is enjoying all this ‘summoning’ thing too much…)
“Why can’t we have different lethal bombs?! You have the ingredients for it!” “I don’t know, Desmond. Could we just please finish preparing all the bombs?” “Dude, wouldn’t it be better if we have, like, all of these bombs?” “… I don’t think I have enough space in belt for all of them…” “You should get a bag.” “(Sigh) Desmond, we already talked about this. This Animus of yours don’t allow more ‘inventory’, right?” (inside, Ezio is wondering what his life has become that he sorta kinda understand the words leaving his mouth)
“Desmond… I’m imploring you to not mess this up.” “I’m trying, man, this is hard.” “Who are you talking to, Haytham?” “Ziio! No… no one.” “…” “… sigghhh… Desmond say hello to Ziio.” “Hi, Ziio.” “… is this a curse placed upon you white men?” “…” “…” “…” “Perhaps.” “Sorta?”
“You are a Templar. May the Father of Understanding guide us.” “May the Father of Understanding guide us.” “Wait, what?!” “…” “…” “Master Kenway, is something the matter?” “… no, Charles. I simply… remembered something foul.”
“It’s okay, Desmond. You’ll get this soon enough. Just take a deep breath and………… Desmond. Desmond. Please stop doing whatever you’re doing right now. My head is starting to hurt.” “It’s not me! The cameras of these tree view points sucks ass!”
“How is it you came to captain a ship, given the way you sail?” “Oh, screw you, Haytham! You wanna talk shit, why don’t you try doing this shit yourself, huh?!” “…” “…” “…” “… Apologies, father. Desmond was out of line.” “No, I’m not, fuck you, Haytham!” “I can say with absolute delight I have not missed you one bit, Desmond.” “Bite me, tacohead.” “I still do not know what that means.”

Sister Dearest (Connor Kenway x Sister!Reader/Haytham Kenway x Daughter!Reader)
‘’Summary: Y/N Kenway has to decide.
Tumblr media
Since Y/N Kenway was a small child, she knew her father as her protector. It was always just the two of them. When Haytham moved to Boston for some business, bringing his daughter with him was the only natural thing to do. Back then, she was only five years old - and let me tell you, moving all across the world isn’t easy for a child that age, especially with her father absent most of the time. Despite everything, Haytham’s and Y/N’S relationship grew even stronger. Y/N learned to cherish those rare moments when her father was at home - Haytham did cherish those moments too. He loved his daughter deeply, even more, when he figured out that he had another child - a child that he couldn’t take care of. Maybe that’s the reason Haytham protected his daughter all the time; he was afraid that he would lose the only thing that mattered to him and the only person that was keeping him sane.
Y/N Kenway also knew that she had a brother, but she also learned to never speak of him. So the only thing she could do was to sometimes ask her father about his life when they just moved to Bostom, praying that he would speak about the women he conceived her brother with - but he almost never did.
For her every birthday, she wished for one thing to happen - for her to meet her brother - and one birthday, she finally did. At the first few encounters, Connor wanted nothing to do with her or with her father, but Y/N was too stubborn to let her brother go. Over time, Connor and Y/N grew closer, while Y/N and her father drifted apart. Y/N learned about Templars and Assasins and what they fought for, and she knew that her brother and father were on the opposite sides. She knew, that even though they were blood, one of them would die.
‘‘Haytham Kenway is a bad man, fighting for a wrong cause. But father...father is a good and caring man. I wish you had met him like that.’‘ she once told Connor.
‘‘He is my brother, your son. He is a child in need of protection just as I am. We need you father, both of us.’‘ she once told Haytham.
But everything she has done wasn’t enough - one of the two would die. So that’s how she found herself here. She was running and jumping over the rooftops with a revolver in her hand. She ran towards a courtyard where she hoped that the two of them would be.  She still didn’t know what to do - she wanted to save both of them, but she knew that wasn’t possible.  A loud blast was heard as cannonballs started hitting once again ‘’Fuck.’’ Y/N yelled to herself as she almost fell of the rooftop.
‘‘ Surrender and I will spare you. ‘‘ she heard a hard voice of her younger brother and she ran towards it.  ‘‘ Brave words from a man about to die. ‘’ her father said, just as she reached an end of the bulding close enough so she could se her father and brother. ‘‘ You fare no better.’’ Connor yelled back. ‘‘ Even when your kind appears to triumph... Still we rise again. And do you know why? It is because the Order is born of a realization. We require no creed. No indoctrination by desperate old men. All we need is that the world be as it is. And this is why the Templars will never be destroyed! ‘‘ Haytham said, walking towards Connor. The two started to fight and Y/N did the only thing she could do, she fired the gun hitting her target. Haytham looked at his daughter, betreyal evident in his eyes as he fell down. Y/N ran towards him, crying. ‘‘I’m sorry father. You gave me no other choice.’‘ she fell next to him, taking his hand. ‘‘I always knew that you would choose your brother. I’m sorry for failing you...for being a bad father. You were the only thing that mattered to me. ‘‘ he squeezed her hand, turning towards Connor ‘‘ Don't think I have any intention of caressing your cheek and saying I was wrong. I will not weep and wonder what might have been. I'm sure you understand. Still, I'm proud of you in a way. You have shown great conviction. Strength. Courage. All noble qualities. I should have killed you long ago. But now that I’m dying and you get to live...Take care of your sister, don’t forget what she did for you.’‘ Haytham spoke to Connor and then once again towards his daughter ‘‘You are my most precious gift.’‘ were his last words. Y/N cried harder.  Her father loved her so much that he didn’t care if she killed him.

A Christmas Dinner To Warm Cold Hearts
A Connor Kenway x Reader One-Shot
Word Count: 2.3K Warnings: None
Author’s Note: And we have reached the final one! 25 straight days of Christmas fics! I hope you have enjoyed it everyone! Thank you for following along! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! -Thorne
New York in the middle of winter wasn’t necessarily her favorite place to be, but to set her plans in motion, sacrifices had to be made—even if it meant freezing off her fingers and toes. With a violent shiver, she tugged at the heavy winter coat, digging her hands underneath her arms in an effort to gain some warmth. Though it did little, she felt a bit of relief as she hurried to the street corner, watching as the group of men filed out.
They seemed to still be in a discussion and to avoid their sights, she crept into a conversation between a group of people, eyes directed on the silver haired man. After a few minutes, they dispersed and she smiled as the man started his way down the other side of the street—she waited a moment then followed, hoping she could catch up to him.
She trailed him for what seemed like hours until he turned down an alley. Doing the same, she was met with an empty backstreet, and when she came out at the end, he was nowhere in sight. Her head tipped both ways as she looked for him.
“I swear I just saw him,” she whispered. “Where on earth did he go?”
A frigid bite of metal against her throat answered her question, and as she sucked in a breath, she heard in her ear, “Make any sudden movements and I will slit your throat.”
Recognizing the voice, she swallowed thickly, and knowing the stories of his ruthlessness from Connor, she understood that he would without a single hesitation, slit her throat.
Her lips suddenly felt dry and she licked them, ignoring how they seemed to freeze after. “I’m not here to cause trouble, Mister Kenway.” She murmured, hoping a soft voice would ease his tension.
His free hand dug into her waist. “Oh ho? And trailing me isn’t trouble on your part?”
A chuckle passed her lips and when she tried to turn her neck a bit to see him, he pressed the blade harder to dissuade her.
“I am looking for you, Haytham, but I’m not going to try anything.” Before he could say anything, she said, “My name is (Y/N). Your son and I are in a relationship,” she tipped her head to catch his eye and smiled, “I just want to talk.”
Haytham’s grip slipped as his steel eyes went wide. He searched her gaze for a lie, and seeming to not find one, he retracted the hidden blade and let her go. (Y/N) felt along her neck for a wound but didn’t find one. She turned around and glanced at the man.
“If you don’t mind, could we go somewhere where it isn’t snowing?” she asked and he simply turned on his heel, telling her to follow; she rolled her eyes at how commanding and pompous he looked from behind, but decided to not voice her concerns.
***
About ten minutes they walked, and he held the door to a tavern, gesturing her inside. (Y/N) walked in and instantly sighed as the warm air wrapped her in a hug that resembled Connor’s.
“Go sit in the corner,” Haytham instructed, and it took everything in her to not turn on him and tell him off for giving her orders.
Silently, she conceded and a few moments after she took her seat, he came over and sat across from her, setting two wine glasses on the table. (Y/N) picked hers up by the stem and swirled it before meeting his eyes.
“Surprising for a man who drinks ale in taverns to drink wine right now,” she remarked and took a small sip before smiling. “Mmm, sweet with honey. A good choice.”
Haytham took a sip of his wine before remembering, “You said you and my son were in a relationship?”
(Y/N) cleared her throat and nodded. “We have been for quite some time.” She had to think on it. “Three years, if I’m not mistaken. Though friends for a longer time.”
His eyes narrowed, and she wasn’t sure if it was from suspicion or thought. “How did you two meet?”
Laughing, she scratched at the old wooden table and let her eyes drift towards the doors. “Oh, he saved me from getting torn a new one by regulars some time back.”
A silver brow arched on his forehead as he surmised, “So my son’s lover is a troublemaker?”
(Y/N) felt a rather unladylike snort come from her and she countered, “Oh, not in so many words, and not like you and he do.” She winked at him. “I merely dabble in the pond while you two are sunk to your necks.”
A bark of laughter escaped him, and she felt pride at how she managed to make the almost stoic man grin. He nodded. “Touché, (Y/N).”
They fell into a silence, enjoying their wines, and when they were almost gone, he questioned, “You wished to speak with me about something?”
(Y/N) nodded and sat up straight. “Are you going to busy on Christmas Day?” she asked, and evidently, he hadn’t been expecting that because his eyes went wide.
           “I beg your pardon?”
She huffed a laugh. “Christmas Day. Will you be busy?”
Haytham’s eyes narrowed, and this time she knew it was in suspicion. “And you are asking why?” he challenged, and she rolled her eyes.
“Well, I was going to ask you if you’d like to have dinner with the two of us.” (Y/N) reasoned.
As if she’d slapped him across the face, his jaw went slack from shock and he fell into a stillness, her simply staring and waiting for an answer.
When he finally found himself again, a look of pure confusion came over him. “You…are inviting me…to dinner?” he repeated.
“I am,” she answered with a smile.
           “…Why?”
(Y/N) inhaled deeply and reclined in her seat, gazing at the back of her hands. “Ratonhnhaké:ton and Achilles aren’t exactly seeing eye to eye now that the two of you are working together,” she explained and with a sad look, she added, “I figured that maybe if the two of you shared a holiday dinner that…well that…” she trailed off and shook her head. “Neverm—”
           “No,” Haytham interjected. “Tell me.”
She met his eyes and with a sudden rush of confidence, she said, “I want the two of you to spend at least one night acting like a family.”
His eyes went wide, but (Y/N) didn’t stop. “You both are so rude and disrespectful to each other, and I understand it’s because neither of you know how to act as you’ve both grown without knowing one another, but still,” she stressed, “You are father and son, and even if you are on different sides, it’s the Christmas season and you should be a family.”
Rising from her seat, she yanked out her coin purse and pulled out a single pound and a scrap of paper. “Here,” she pointed out. “For the drink.”
He took them both but raised the paper. “What’s this?”
(Y/N) glanced at him. “Directions to my cottage at the Davenport Homestead.”
“Are you sure it’s wise to give this to me?” Haytham murmured, but she placed her palm flat on the table and got in his face.
“If you send someone after me, he’ll kill them and then you without a second thought,” (Y/N) warned before standing up and continuing, “You’re a bastard, sure, but not that much.” She nodded at the scrap. “Be there by seven…please.”
And she left him without another word.
***
It wasn’t a struggle to keep him away from the door, but it was certainly one to keep him from putting his fingers in the food. For what seemed like the millionth time, she whacked at his hand, but he was much too quick and dodged her, sticking out his tongue.
“Stay out of that, Ratonhnhaké:ton!” she hissed. “It’s not time to eat yet!”
He let his head loll back and sighed. “But Otsi’tsa, I am hungry.”
(Y/N) snorted and shoved at his stomach, nodding at the table before handing him a platter of venison. “Go,” she commanded. “And don’t sneak a piece!”
Connor groaned and did as she asked, but when he set down the plate, he noticed an extra plate. “(Y/N), are we having a guest for dinner?”
She turned around and faced the fireplace, gnawing at her lips as she searched for an answer. “Uh…sort of?” She could hear the confusion in his voice.
“What do you mean ‘sort of’?” he asked, and before she could respond, a knock was at the door.
They turned and she hurried to it before he could, cracking it open slightly. Connor saw the corner of her lip turn up and she opened the door fully, letting the person inside. His amber eyes went wide when his father removed his tricorn and hung it on the coat hanger, his cloak and jacket following.
(Y/N) tossed him a sheepish grin and hesitated, “…Merry Christmas?”
All her lover could manage was, “Why?”
She sighed. “Oh my god, it’s Christmas, you two.”
Haytham scoffed and glared at her. “I showed up, did I not?”
Connor cut her off with a hiss. “I can show you out if you would like.”
“Boys,” she scolded, and at that, they both turned on her with equal looks of disrespect; she rolled her eyes. “Please, let’s just sit at the table and eat dinner.”
Father and son stared one another down for a full minute before taking their seats, and (Y/N) hoped it would remain civil.
***
Surprisingly, dinner did remain fairly civil, only a few moments where she had to soothe Connor’s anger—and kick Haytham in the shin underneath the table, no doubt he’d have bruises in the morning.
They sat by the fireplace, her and Haytham with a mug of cider in their hands, Connor drinking hot chocolate—she had to elbow his father in the side before he could say something that would no doubt set her lover off.
It was a peaceful moment before Connor questioned, “Why did you come, father?”
Her eyes darted to Haytham who simply gazed into the fireplace, the golden glow making his steel eyes shimmer. “Because (Y/N) invited me,” he simply returned.
She let out an exaggerated cough. “Liar.”
Haytham glowered at her and she shifted her eyes between him and Connor. Finally, he sighed and revealed, “I thought…that you and I should spend the holidays together.”
Connor huffed a laugh, sarcastically countering, “What, because we are family?”
His father gazed at him with clear eyes. “Yes.”
It was the most honest she’d ever heard the man be, and even she was as surprised as Connor was, who simply turned meek and looked at the fireplace with a quiet, “Oh.”
(Y/N) watched Haytham stare at his feet as he murmured, “This is the first time in…decades…that I have spent a holiday with…family.” A rare smile came across his lips. “I have…enjoyed it.”
She glanced at Connor and nudged him gently in the side, giving him a smile when he looked at her; after a moment, he sighed and said, “As have I.”
Watching the two give each other truthful and heartful smiles, she stood and announced, “I have final gifts for you two.”
Their eyes followed her curiously as she walked to a shelf and came back with two boxes, one red, the other blue. She handed the red to Haytham and the blue to Connor.
           “Here, open them,” she smiled.
Doing so, they ripped the paper and opened the boxes to see a simple ribbon in each box, Haytham’s ribbon red, and Connor’s ribbon blue.
(Y/N) tapped Connor’s and explained, “There’s an inscription on each ribbon. I had them made in Boston a while ago.”
Haytham picked it up and started examining it. “What does it say?”
“It says, ‘You need glasses’,” Connor quipped, and she snorted when his father glared at him, then looked to her and waited.
(Y/N) leaned on her lover’s shoulder and replied, “They both say, ‘True wisdom comes to each of us when we realize how little we understand about life, ourselves, and the world around us.’” She glanced at them. “A testament to the fact that you both know so much about the world and it’s realities, yet you still understand so little.”
She almost laughed at how their faces pinched exactly the same, and she added, “And because I hope that when you wear them, you remember it and make better choices.”
“Who said I make bad choices?” Connor suddenly asked and (Y/N) cocked a brow.
“Uh, the Boston Tea Party?” she hinted, and he scowled.
“There was a purpose in that,” he countered.
“Yes, destroying good tea,” Haytham argued. He sighed and placed the top back on the box, and she stopped Connor before he could say something about his lack of thanks.
He stood to his feet and made his way to the door, starting to dress in his jacket and cloak. (Y/N) handed him his hat and he looked at the two of them.
“Thank you for inviting me,” he said, placing the tricorn atop his head. “I have enjoyed tonight.”
(Y/N) smiled. “Thank you for being here tonight.”
Haytham turned to the door, but as his hand gripped the doorknob, he glanced over his shoulder. “I will be having New Year’s dinner at my home in Virginia, if you two would like to come.”
She nodded. “I would love to.” His gaze shifted to his son.
Connor took a moment, obviously wrestling with himself before he nodded. “Yes…I would like to be there as well.”
His father gave them a rare and true smile before tipping his head. “I shall see you there.”

Note
im new to the ac fandom and i didnt know there were any books should i be reading them?? or are there certain ones that i absolutely need to read or would i be okay if i skip them?
Yeah it’s okay to skip them if you want! They’re mostly there to give some more insight on some of the characters. If you want to read them but you don’t have to money to buy the books, you can read them here. I actually have all the books already on paper copy so I would definitely recommend buying them if you really enjoy them.
There’s also some comics and graphic novels about them too which I have included in on the master list. They actually follow the modern storyline of you want to read up on that. If you want to read them just do readcomicsonline. They have them all, only watch out for ads.
Anyway here’s the master list, it’s pretty long won’t lie:
The books, in order of strictly historical events:
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey by Gordon Doherty (2018)
Basically this books gives the canonical story to assassin’s creed odyssey following Kassandra around Greece. If you had the “best” or good ending from the story then you’re probably going to be upset with the book. I actually liked it and if you were ever confused about the game then this is definitely for you to read.
Assassin’s Creed Origins: Desert Oath by Oliver Bowden (2017)
This book takes place years before Origins. It follows Bayek who a teenager at the time. We learn how Bayek and Aya start their relationship and it kind of explains some of the side missions that talk about Bayek’s past. If you love Bayek and Aya’s relationship you will love this book.
[ insert for whenever an ac valhalla book is written ]
Assassin’s Creed: The Secret Crusade by Oliver Bowden (2011)
This book is the one I’m currently rereading, so it takes place with the father of Marco Polo talking about Altaïr’s life. It talks about his—Altaïr’s—dad within the first few chapters, events that happened in the game, and then what happens after. It gives more insight on what happened between the events of ac one and the little bits of scenes we see in ac revelations of Altaïr in game. If you want to know how Maria and Altaïr got together you’ll like this book it’s very sweet and I love how smitten Altaïr was. If you love Atlmal (Altaïr and Malik) you’ll also like this book but it will crush you.
Assassin’s Creed: Renaissance by Oliver Bowden (2009)
This follows Ezio through assassin’s creed two. Literally just the book version of the game. Does talk about how Ezio and Cristina got together and a few of the memories you get to play in Brotherhood are in this book. I like it. It pretty much follows the game exactly so if you want to skip it, you can but still a really good book that I recommend reading.
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood by Oliver Bowden (2010)
Follows the plot of the game. It’s pretty similar to it as opposed to a few differences. While I like this book, I will always say the game is better than this book entirely. Still, it’s pretty good and explains a lot of plot.
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations by Oliver Bowden (2011)
It explains why Ezio is doing what he does in the game. Why he’s there and what is reasoning is. You get a little small bit about Claudia but that’s it. Ezio does, in book, visit Leonardo on the last few days before the artist dies :( that’s pretty much it. Only some minor differences to the game. If you’re looking for something about Desmond, you won’t find it in this book.
Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag by Oliver Bowden (2013)
I’ll be honest I only read this book once so my memory is pretty poor on it but from what I can remember it’s about Edward and Caroline and how they got together. And then there’s something about Anne Boney and Edward towards the end I believe. Kind of explains his backstory from the little scenes we’re shown in the game I think? (Correct me if I’m wrong on this one but I’m certain that’s the gist of it).
Assassin’s Creed: Forsaken by Oliver Bowden (2012)
This one was the first assassin’s creed book I read. Now fair warning: if you do not like Haytham Kenway, I strongly advise you to not read this book. It is all about Haytham until the final few chapters and then Connor takes over the book once you’ve killed him in game. This book explains how he (Haytham) came to be apart of the Templars and how Edward dies. It talks about his relationship with Ziio and how he built the Templar order up during the seven years war. I’ll be honest it was okay when I first read it because I was like 11 and the only other thing I had read was like just percy jackson. Looking back on this book though, it’s not that great. I do not like Haytham at all so I, personally, would not recommend this book. I went in reading it expecting for it to be about Connor and I was very disappointed and upset that it wasn’t. So you can skip this book if you like because the only thing it does is give insight to a lot of what Haytham does.
Assassin’s Creed: Unity by Oliver Bowden (2014)
This is my favorite book. This is about Arno reading Elise’s diary after she passed. There’s little bits where Arno writes in here and there throughout the novel. It’s pretty sad I won’t lie. Explains how Elise grew up, what she did during the parts where we didn’t see her in game, and talks about how she felt during the parts where we did see her in game. Basically at the end of the book it’s Elise asking Arno to please help seek unity and stop the war between the Templars and Assassins.
Assassin’s Creed: Underworld by Oliver Bowden (2015)
This book follows Jayadeep Mir, also known to us as Henry Green. There’s two parts to this book. The first part takes place six years before the events of syndicate and you get to really learn about the twin’s father and then the second part takes place during the events of the game. It talks about Evie and Henry’s relationship during the second part and it’s pretty good!
There are no books about assassin’s creed chronicles (ac China, India, and Russia) if you’re wondering why they’re missing :(
The comics:
*most of these take place during the modern storyline I’ll try my best to explain when they come in and how it adds up to the new our modern storyline at the end
Assassin’s Creed the Fall
There’s three issues with this it’s just a graphic novel honestly. Takes place with the main character from AC Chronicles: Russia
Assassin’s Creed the Chain
Graphic Novel sequel to the Fall
Assassin’s Creed Brahman
Written by the same people who wrote The Fall and The Chain, however this focuses on Arbaaz Mir who is the main character from Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India.
Now from what I’ve seen, correct me if I’m wrong, but the templar and assassin comics pretty much take place around the same time.
Assassin’s Creed: Trial by Fire
Assassin’s Creed issue #1, #2, #3, #4, #5
Assassin’s Creed Templars: Black Cross
Assassin’s Creed Templars issue #1, #2, #3, #4, #5
Assassin’s Creed: Setting Sun
Assassin’s Creed issue #6, #7, #8, #9, #10
Assassin’s Creed Templars: Cross of War
Assassin’s Creed Templars issue issue #6, #7, #8, #9
Assassin’s Creed: Homecoming
Assassin’s Creed issue #11, #12, #13, #14
Assassin’s Creed: Uprising
Common Ground Vol 1: issue #1, #2, #3, #4
Infection Point Vol 2: issue #5, #6, #7, #8
Finale vol 3: #9, #10, #11, #12
Assassin’s Creed Reflections (pretty much a stand alone I would say, focuses entirely on past assassins but canon to the templar comics).
Reflections 1: modern story focuses on Otso Berg historical story focuses on Ezio where we learn Ezio is implied to have hooked up with the woman who in the Mona Lisa painting.
Reflections 2: same thing for modern story but now Otso is looking into Altaïr’s story. We get to see Maria, Altaïr, and their son Darim.
Reflections 3: Otso is now looking into Edward Kenway.
Reflections 4: Otso looks into Connor and we see him with his daughter. It’s super cute this issue is my favorite.
Last Descendants
The Last Descendants (Novel)
Locus: issues 1 - 4
The Last Descendants: Tomb of the Khan (novel)
The Last Descendants: Fate of the Gods (novel)
Assassin’s Creed: the French Books (these have all been translated into english and theyre all graphic novels).
These books I would say to skip. If you want to read it you can, however the modern storyline has been said to no longer be canon anymore. The historical storyline however is still canon but not actually necessary to the plot of anything.
Cycle 1
Assassin’s Creed 1: Desmond
Assassin's Creed 2: Aquilus
Assassin's Creed 3: Accipiter
Assassin's Creed 4: Hawk
Assassin's Creed 5: El Cakr
Assassin's Creed 6: Leila
Cycle 2
Assassin’s Creed: Conspiracies
This takes place during WW2
Vol 1: Die Glocke
Vol 2: Project Rainbow
Cycle 3
Assassin’s Creed: Bloodstone
This takes place during the Vietnam War. A follow up on Conspiracies.
Vol 1: book one
Vol 2: book two
The last two I have listed (Conspiracies and Bloodstone) are canon to the comics’ modern storyline as well as the historical. Cycle one is not. They’re both graphic novels. Also I want to say that I have not read these two yet so idk if I’ll be allowed to recommend them but they’re there. I have no idea where they’re placed in terms of modern storyline bc these two are very confusing seeing as they originally were canon then told they weren’t and now they are again.
Other comics that I really have no idea where to place but they do exist if you want to read them:
Assassin’s Creed: Origins (mini series)
Four issues for this comic takes place following Aya and her journey. You get to see what happens with Cleopatra. I personally really like this comic you get some lore on the Brotherhood and Aya so it’s good. Read this after the video game. (Pretty positive it takes place after the game events but before the DLC: hidden ones)
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla: Song of Glory (mini series)
There are three issues in this. Haven’t read this one yet, however it focuses on Eivor. Read this alongside the video game.
Okay so for canon timeline purposes here is the exact order of everything I’ve listed and where they fall in for strictly the modern storyline:
1 The Fall and the Chain (also called subject four which is just the two of the books into one)
2 Desmond’s story
3 Brahman
4 Assassin’s Creed: Trial by Fire 1 - 5
5 Assassin’s Creed Templars: Black Cross 1 - 5
6 Assassin’s Creed: Setting Sun 6 - 10

For some reason, it’s a peaceful night in Boston.
The bath sits in front of the fire, a long cast iron tub that only someone like Haytham could afford. One in which only himself and Shay have the privilege of sitting in. Shay has only bathed in those small wooden ones where your knees are up touching your ears all while you scrub away. But to Shay now, being able to lay down and stretch his legs out in hot water is heavenly. He could fall asleep here. The water still nice and hot and keeping warm from the fire.
All while Haytham sits at his desk on the other side of the room behind Shay writing out reports. Trying to find out the next best cause of action for these new precursor sights he has found. The soft scribble of pencil on paper is a soothing background noise.
The reason why Shay is back in America in Haytham’s bath and not half way across the world somewhere is all because of the box. His now cold lead had bought him into Boston, where he so happened to run into Haytham in the Green Dragon. Or maybe Shay made sure he was in the tavern when Haytham and the rest were around. The looks on their faces when he popped up. He wish he could have that painted.
Haytham’s pencil suddenly snaps under the amount of pressure the man was putting it under. It’s soon followed by a curse and the pencil is heard hitting the other side of the room.
Shay slowly opens his eyes. “Haytham,” he slowly says.
Said man almost jumps out of his skin. He had forgotten Shay was in here with him. The thought that the hunter is with him again is still an odd thought. It’s been a good few years. Haytham leans back in his chair and runs his hands down his face with a soft groan.
“Come here,” Shay drawls.
He doesn’t bother looking over or moving in the tub to peer upon Haytham. But he doesn’t have to, to know that the man is frustrated and pouting. And Haytham is. He stays sitting and stares at the back of Shay’s head with a frown.
“Don’t mind me, Shay,” Haytham conflicts. “I’m alright.”
“Haytham,” his name is said more sternly this time. Almost like a parent warning their child.
The Grandmaster loudly sighs so that Shay can hear his annoyance. But it doesn’t stop the man from waving a hand, beckoning him over. Haytham stares at him a moment longer before standing and walking over to where Shay is in the tub.
Shay smiles slyly as Haytham stands over him with his arms crossed over his chest. There is no soap suds sitting on the top of the water to cover his body from Haytham’s wondering eyes. Shay’s hair falls down his shoulders, the greying hairs at his temples seeming to catch the fire light. It reminds Haytham all too much of his own and how old they’re both getting.
Shay holds out a hand, “Join me, Haytham.”
Haytham wants to protest, but as he gives a look over to his desk he’s reminded how this moment could slip through his fingers if he chooses to say no. How quickly Shay could be pulled away from him again. And then how many more years will he go without seeing the other man?
He unclips his cloak and lets it land at his feet with a loud thud. Shay’s smile now reaches his eyes as he watches his Grandmaster strip in front of him. He rests his hand back into the water, waiting patiently for Haytham to finish. Layer by layer until he’s kicking off his under garments. Brown eyes trail down his body, not ashamed by looking at something marvellous in front of him.
Haytham steps in slowly and Shay moves so that he can lay down between his legs. The bath is a little too small but neither of them complain. Even when the water splashes and sloshes out a little as Shay sits up straight against the back of the tub, not a word is spoken or snapped.
Now settled and finally being able to just, look at Shay, Haytham’s words almost get caught in his throat, “I thought I would never see you again.”
The smile from Shay’s lips falls and his head tilts ever so slightly. “You didn’t think I’d find the box?” He asks a little offended.
Haytham shakes his head once. “No, no Shay of course not. I know you’ll find it,” he phases off.
But Shay waits for him to finish, letting the fire crackle and pop and the gentle breathing of the both of them to ease the silence. Haytham looks down, finding himself not able to speak as he looks at the other.
“I thought I would be long dead.”
Haytham leaves it at that. Long dead before Shay got back. That leaves a heavy lead like feeling in the hunter’s gut. Shay stares at him for a moment with a look in his eyes that Haytham can’t read.
He then sits forward and moves until he’s kneeling over Haytham, using the sides of the bath tub to keep him up. He’s mere inches away from Haytham’s face, looking at him through thick lashes.
“Yet, here you are,” Shay speaks so softly it’s almost lost to the night.
“And yet, here I am.”
With that, Shay brings their lips together with a passion long forgotten. His hands come to Haytham’s sides, holding him as all he can do is melt in the touch. It has been too long. Haytham’s hands are caressing Shay’s head, running his fingers through his hair and tugging ever so slightly. He feels a little desperate. Like someone that hasn’t been touched in over a decade.
But hasn’t he? Hasn’t Haytham kept to himself all these years and focused solely on his own work. Searching and failing for these goddamn precursor sights. Each trail leading to a dead end that leaves him more frustrated to isolate himself in his office every hour of the day. Leaving himself to rot away by himself and become dead meat.
But Shay, Shay treats him like a cherished, lost item now found. With a long lost love that has never gone away and has only been festering inside him. Touching and feeling Haytham for any new changes that have happened over the years or any old ones he has always gone over. He finds the old scars and moves quickly over them, but when a finger flitters over a new mark he inspects it with curiosity. All while he moves from Haytham’s mouth to his chin, then down his neck where he begins to lightly suck and graze his teeth over sun kissed skin.
Haytham inhales through his teeth sharply, gripping onto Shay’s shoulder as his body is caressed. A hand travels down Haytham’s body to wrap around his hardening cock. At the simple touch, Shay has the man under him grunting and clenching his jaw to hold in those noises he so much wants to hear.
“Sh-Shay,” Haytham breathes out.
A grin can be felt against his skin as Shay strokes Haytham slowly but surely. The warm water makes it easy as skin glides over skin. But it’s all a little too much when Shay brings his own dick into his fist with Haytham’s. Shay moves his hips to jerk Haytham and himself off as he pants softly and lovely in his ear. The water sloshes at the movement but the clean up is the last thing on Haytham’s mind.
He stares at the ceiling as he can feel the pleasure rippling through his body. His gut tightening and once in his younger years, he knows he would have been able to last longer. But his stamina is not what it once was. And he has realized he is very much starved for touch.
Haytham bucks his hips up into Shay’s hand, trying to get more friction that the water isn’t providing. He grips onto Shay, not wanting to ever let go. His body feels like it’s on fire and about to explode but there’s something stopping him. It just isn’t enough to push him over the top despite him being right on the edge. And it becomes frustrating as he bucks his hips up again.
Suddenly, Shay bites down hard into the nape of Haytham’s neck as the younger man comes. It’s almost like a shock of electricity strikes him as he finally tips over the edge. His orgasm rips through him as he comes into the water along side Shay. He doesn’t realize his vision had become spotted until he has to blink a couple of times to come back.
Haytham’s body goes placid as Shay hauls himself back up with hands on either side of the tub. A sly smile covers his face as he collects himself, his dark eyes flickering over Haytham’s face. The older man brings a hand up and cups Shay’s face. He runs a thumb over the crows feet now revealing themselves on the hunter’s face. Almost making the man look wiser for his years.
The words leave Haytham’s mouth before he knows it, “I regret sending you away.”
Shay’s smile faulters a second time that night and he stares blankly at him now. Haytham swallows thickly as he brings his hand away from Shay’s face. He has always been known as a mood breaker.
“I’m sorry,” the older whispers.
“You can’t go saying things like that, sir,” Shay almost hisses, but holds himself off. “I have a duty to the order.”
Haytham quickly corrects himself, licking his lips before speaking firmly but softly. “I didn’t mean it in such a crude way, Shay. I regret sending my best man away only because you are the only one I can truly trust in the Order. That is why I sent you away because I know you will come back with the box.”
Haytham cups Shay’s face with both of his hands this time. But brown eyes refuse to meet his own gaze.
“But that does not mean I miss you every day, and regret my decision even if it was for the good of man,” he finishes, needing these words to be said so that Shay knows.
Haytham blinks as a tear strikes his eye from above. The water might be spoiled and becoming cold, the fire dwindling to soft coals so the light in the office room is dependent on a singular lantern from the desk, but that all doesn’t stop Haytham from holding Shay close to him as the younger man’s body shudders under his touch. A strong ache squeezes at Haytham’s heart and throat at the realization that Shay will be off once again.
And oh, will he be missed dearly.

Edward Kenway for character asks!
ooooooo okay i should open this with a disclaimer: i have not finished black flag yet (about 2/3 of the way through i think? i need to level up my ship so i can beat the next story mission lol) so everything i'm saying here is based on the game up to thatch's death, and everything we know about edward in ac 3: forsaken and the comics that came out a couple years ago.
First impression
oh boy... to be honest, one of the reasons it took me such a long time to get around to playing black flag (it was one of the first ps4 games i bought when i got my console in 2016, and i didn't start until about a month ago) was because i didn't really feel particularly strongly about edward's character design. i was vaguely interested in That One Pirate Assassin Game after having watched (and loved) black sails, but was afraid i would be let down; to me edward just looked like Some Dude, and i was still hung up on the black sails gang. to me, black sails and its characters were so genre/time period-defining that any other piece of pirate media just seemed lackluster in comparison.
i'd also heard a lot of praise for edward and for ac4 in general so i was aware that it was a very popular and well-received game. but since i mostly heard that from reddit (didn't join tumblr ac fandom until odyssey in 2018) i kind of discounted it, bc gamer reddit tastes are... questionable at best.
Impression now
I LOVE HIM!!! i always think i want stories about virtuous characters who believe in goodness and kindness and aren't motivated by gold or glory but aren't afraid to do what needs to be done to help others who can't help themselves. and sometimes that's true (coughratonhnhake:toncough). other times i end up clowning on myself because i realize that it's so much fun when said good/kind character has a rough and rugged exterior, and is motivated by personal gain (i think edward and kassandra are kinda kindred spirits across time and space in that regard, but maybe that's another rant for another time). sometimes you just want someone to be a little bit of an opportunistic bastard, and boy does edward fit that to a T. he's an incredibly complex man, and i think what really got me was that even as he was impersonating assassins and then templars and then assassins again, all for personal gain (pickpocketing the templars in havana while he gains their trust and agrees to do their dirty work lmfao my beloved <3), his primary motivation for doing so was to prove to caroline and her family that he is someone worth a damn, that he is capable of great things and that he is worthy of their love and acceptance. and i know from ac forsaken that the marriage with caroline doesn't last (though i haven't played ac4 far enough to see if that happens on screen, or if it occurs between the game and the novel) which makes his backstory in the game all the more heartbreaking. but his optimism and perseverance and determination to prove himself are all what make me love him.
so that's edward the romantic. now let's talk about the way edward is with adewale, his crew, and his friends. and let's also put the rest of this behind a readmore bc girl i am RANTINGGGGGG
he has several lines that he says to adewale that make me physically cringe (namely: "many of [these men] wouldn't accept you as captain" or "what was it like being enslaved?" like i get that someone like edward would be asking that question in good faith and genuine curiosity but also JESUS CHRIST UBISOFT). but on the flip side - cringey as those questions are, he also takes the time to actually listen and learn, and i think he genuinely values the perspective that he gets from adewale allowing him to open these lines of trust and communication. there's a patience and mutual respect there that i adore.
i also love how much edward loves his crew and his other pirate friends. those scenes of him + kidd + thatch + adewale + hornigold (lol) drinking on the beach and having a grand old time and talking about establishing - to borrow one of my favorite chills-down-my-spine phrases from black sails - a nation of thieves, for people like them to live and prosper, free from the chokehold of civilization. and i know he's not as outwardly invested in counterculture/independence/anticolonialism as thatch and vane and kidd are, but the fact that he so wholeheartedly supports his friends' goals, lofty and impossible as they are, speaks volumes about his love for his friends.
Favorite moment
every scene he has with kidd when kidd casually and softly reminds him that they see that he is a good person beneath his opportunistic and rambunctious exterior. i especially love when they discover julien du casse's mansion containing orders for templars to go out and hunt down assassins: the way kidd immediately knows that edward wants to help the assassins as a way to make up for the damage he did while masquerading as a templar, even if he hasn't voiced it aloud himself. the way that they don't force edward to admit anything about himself before he is ready, but still constantly remind him that he has a good heart. they give him space to come to terms with his compassionate side in a world/environment that more often than sees compassion as something to be stamped out or cast aside. i don’t love when characters are forced to be the Moral Compass for a main dude character, but i think it works for edward and kidd.
Idea for a story
not an edward story per se, but there are 2 povs into edward's life that i would cut off (someone else's) limbs for:
jenny's pov growing up in the kenway household. from haytham's pov it seems that she knows way more about his past than haytham ever did (it was hinted at that there are rumors about edward’s past as haytham was growing up that he wasn’t privy to, but i don’t think at any point in the novel does haytham ever find out definitively that his father was a pirate) and i want to know how she knew so much, and more into what her life was like - through her eyes rather than haytham, who is like 10 years younger and by his own admission barely understands her and barely has a functional relationship with her. i'll expand further on edward and jenny in the next question/prompt/bullet point, actually, bc i have a LOT more to say.
connor's pov learning about his grandfather from... idk? who's around to tell him? what's so goddamn sad is that by the time connor rebuilds the colonial brotherhood he's kinda the only one left. sure there's aveline down in louisiana, but as far as we know everyone who was around in edward's generation is dead now, and i'm not sure how much of the kenway saga is preserved for connor to discover, or if all this information about their family line was discovered in the modern-day, by your abstergo employee character, and later by osto berg in the comics. which is why i so badly want a revelations-style game where connor traces his assassin heritage back to the caribbean, relives some of edward's memories, and then makes the trip to london to see his aunt jenny. it would have been such a cool way to round out the kenway saga.
Unpopular opinion
idk how popular or unpopular this is bc i rarely see other in-depth posts about it on my dash, but edward was a terrible father to jenny. he was every bit the wonderful and loving father to haytham for the 10 years that haytham had a father, but i wish we'd seen more of jenny's perspective than just a few lines of dialogue in haytham's diary: i hate the way edward sidelined her and raised her in the same manner that any other wealthy person of the time would have raised their daughter - that is, for the sole purpose of sitting pretty and marrying her off in an arrangement that would benefit the family. it's especially hard to reconcile because in ac4 there are female assassins in the americas, and there are female pirates in the caribbean, so it's not like edward isn't aware that women have as much right as any man to live life on their own terms. it just seems like by the time he returns to england and settles down with his family, he's reverted back to the societal norms and gender roles that the pirates fought (and lost) against, and it's hard not to be deeply disappointed by that.
to be clear, i don't begrudge edward settling down and becoming a Rich Society Man. dude deserves to live comfortably with his loving family. he has every right to dote on his wife and children, and leave behind the hardships of being a pirate. but i think "fightning against deeply-ingrained cultural norms/expectations is a long and bloody struggle, and after losing so many people he cared so deeply about, i think it's understandable that edward wouldn't want to continue that fight alone (and also adewale is still fighting the good fight) (do NOT @ me about ac rogue I Pretend I Do Not See It)" and "i don't love the way edward sidelined his daughter into societally-expected gender roles she did not want; it makes me think that he did not continue drinking his Respect Women Juice as much as i thought he did/wanted him to" are two opinions that can coexist.
Favorite relationship
i don't know that i ship edward romantically with anyone, actually. i thought he and caroline were cute in the beginning, but it's hard to want to ship them knowing that she leaves him eventually. and ofc there'd edward/tessa in ac forsaken, and we know they were very happy together and that he loved her so so much. but we don't see that relationship except through haytham's eyes.
as for non-romantic relationships, i already talked at length above about his relationships with adewale and the other pirates and kidd, and i'll just leave it at that. i'm also vaguely aware that edward's got some upcoming scenes with anne bonny, but i'm not at that point in the game yet so i don't have much to say about the two of them. so far i've only seen them say a few lines to each other at the nassau tavern.
Favorite headcanon
kassandra absolutely rubbed shoulders with edward at some point during his time in the caribbean; i like to think that she needed to lie low for some reason (maybe she was with the assassins idk) and joined his crew. i just need my best stabby gal and my second-favorite stabby dude to be pals!
finally, this isn't a headcanon per se but it is obligatory that any time i talk about kenways i yell for a bit about the fact that EDWARD WOULD HAVE LOVED CONNOR SO SO SO MUCH AND I'M FOREVER DEVASTATED THAT HE NEVER GOT TO MEET HIM. at the same time, if edward hadn't been murdered and haytham not been indoctrinated into the templars the way he had, i'm not sure connor would even have existed. and in a way i'm glad that edward wasn't around to see how broken and cynical and depressed haytham became, because i think that would have absolutely broken his heart.
send me a character!
