gilil and chacaltetepon

based on the gila monster and the beaded lizard (known in spanish as lagarto de chaquira and in nahuatl as acaltetepon). they are some of the only known reptiles with venom, they are also known for the scale and color patterns on their body similar to beads, theres many myths and stories surounding them becaus of their venom and their incredibly painful bite, however there are no known human deaths because of it and they rely more on their size and strenght to take down prey only using the venom to escape larger predators. They are experts in raiding burrows and nests and are actually quite slow moving but capable of climbing cacti to reach their prey

the patterns on chacaltetepon are meant to very loosely reference Huichol art, an indigenous group from mexico that are specially known for their beaded art with colorful patterns and shapes but im not confident in trying to even slightly replicate it because every bit of it has a special meaning related to their cosmology of which i know nothing about.

what powers would a lizard devil/fiend/hybrid have?

all i could think of is: **limited** bloodless regeneration (skinks), invisibility (chameleons, if yer a dummy), super clingy wall climbing (geckos), venomous bite (beaded lizards, komodo dragons, and gila monsters), tough skin (scales), hours long breath holding [hybrid only, because i don't think devils/fiends need to breath] (most lizards reptiles can do this, don't test this @ home), tongue tentacle (chameleons, if yer a dummy 2), more sun exposure = more strength [not to a stupid extent tho, sadly] (poor understanding of exothermy), and claws! very sneaky devil/hybrid/fiend

i got a kandi set for my birthday yesterday

i tried (and failed) to make a cuff right out the gate, and not only did it not end up the pattern i wanted, but also i missed a bead somewhere in the middle, and my knot came apart when i went to wear it. so after some disappointment and re-sorting of beads, my sister and i decided to sit down and make some lizards together.

(ew ignore my face, its like the one bad spot, also srry for bad cam quality its a laptop hehe)

this is Jack, he’s themed after a Jack-O-Lantern. i love he. it was so simple to make and im so proud of how he turned out (the thread i had was kinda thin for this craft but it worked hehe)

i’m hoping to continue making kandi jewelry and improve at it so i can make some more complex things <3
