one of the most interesting things about spencer reid as a character is the way the writers CONSISTENTLY draw comparisons of unsubs to him

#it’s so so interesting #i hate the prison arc i think it sucks but when you contextualize it with that in mind #it becomes so important to understanding his character #i think a lot about how the whole thing with cat and she wanted to push him to his limit in prison and him be just as bad as she is #she says that he can never come back from the things he’s done #and his ‘watch me’ i think about that SO OFTEN #bc THAT is his character #i think he recognizes he COULD be an unsub if he wanted to #and the main reason he isn’t isn’t bc it’s not ‘in his nature’ it’s bc he makes a conscious choice to be better #sometimes. the writers are good. SOMETIMES.#kateposting

Big fan of when a character's grief/trauma/guilt manifests as physical symptoms. Big fan of characters keeping things so tight inside them that it makes them sick. Big fan of when the line blurs between a character's mental trauma and physical illness until it's hard to tell which is which anymore.

#whump #k once i did a fic where a character had pneumonia #and also was in Big Mental Distress and mentally going over all the people he'd lost in his life etc #and i gotta say i'm proud of myself for bringing up the recurrent motif of his chest being pianful...like is it from being sick & coughing #or bc he's grieving so badly it's putting him in physical pain #ANYWAY

i'm unwell!!! because in stede's eyes, ned low was right!! ned says "he [ed] only likes you because of your bumbling amateur status" and calls stede blackbeard's "pet" just like izzy did in series 1

so stede steps up as a captain, kills the man who harmed his crew, and suddenly, for once in stede's life, he isn't a joke! the gentleman pirate is taken seriously and welcomed into the pirate community!

and what happens less than 24 hours later? ed calls their night together a mistake, AND LEAVES.

yes, obviously the situation is more nuanced, and these old men are once again struggling to communicate, but i 100% understand why stede went a bit of the rails at the end of episode 7. stede's been so focused on trying to help ed, that he's completely ignored his own ongoing identity crisis and trauma, and after the incident at the academy in series 1, this meltdown was long overdue.

i lose 80% of respect for a movie the moment a female protagonist wakes up in bed with artfully tousled hair and a full face of unsmudged makeup what is that mcfuckery
