i mean for real look up other actors' deliveries of the queen mab monologue and then come back and tell me any of them did it better than harold perrineau
like most of them are just. saying the words like any other, or trying to spin a tale kind of randomly which i guess is fine and sort of establishes mercutio as being Out There, but they don't particularly characterize him as standing out that much
but harold perrineau delivers that speech like a man with some serious shit he needs to sort through, and strongly sets up the kind of character who would throw himself into a duel on impulse and scream a plague on both your houses! while dying senselessly
none of the others make mercutio so manic, so hectic, a candle so bright that it's burning itself out in a blaze of bitter glory
his mercutio is gregarious, living large, here for a good time not for a long time, living fast and dying young and boiling with energy and a kind of rage under the surface like he wants to burn the world down and let it take him with it
his is the most compelling and realistic mercutio i've ever seen
no other portrayal can compare

Re-watching the ol' Baz Romeo + Juliet and they really had the audacity
The casting. The gun check outside the party. The iconography. These FACES! Leo! Claire! Everyone talks about Johnny Legz in his Virgin Mary waistcoat but spare a thought for his red sequinned number with the huge starched white collar. The cars! The Montague Boyz. The queerness. Oh my god. Everyone looks so good. No stationary surface was spared a gilding or a touch of glitter. Whatever it is Baz is huffing I hope he has a lifetime supply

hi jess‼️ my favorite film of all time is down by law (1986) which should come as no surprise to anyone who remembers my old url. i've been watching a lot of french films recently, some of my favorites were céline and julie go boating (1974) and la chinoise (1967). i also like rear window and dial m for murder, both by hitchcock, and slacker by richard linklater!

Romeo is NOT an adult. Their age gap is three years at most. He is 15 at least, 17 at most.
Their relationship may be immature but it is no less valuable. Teenagers are capable of deep emotions, they are HUMAN.
It did NOT take place over three days. If you have bothered to research the time period and actually read the book instead of bitching about it, you would notice how it actually takes place over two weeks or even a MONTH.
If you think Juliet should have obeyed her abusive parents and married the actual Grown Man Paris, WHO FREELY TALKS ABOUT IMPREGNATING UNDERAGED GIRLS (Act 1 Scene II, "Younger than she are happy mothers made.") you are gross. get off my blog.
If you think it's unrealistic for people to commit suicide over love, L+ ratio + they're children + Juliet is in an abusive home, would be forced to marry a grown man who she does not love whatsoever+ both of them have nowhere to go+ Romeo might actually end up being sentenced to death anyway for breaking exile
If you think Romeo is stupid and didn't wait long enough/ didn't check to see if she was alive, Act 5 Scene III: "How long hath he been there?" "Full half an hour."/ Act 4 Scene I: "no pulse shall keep his native progress, but surcease. No warmth, no breath shall testify thou livest. the roses in thy lips and cheeks shall fade to paly ashes, thy eye's windows fall like death when he shuts up the day of life. Each part, deprived of supple government, shall, stiff and stark and cold, appear like death."
You only hate Romeo and Juliet because you a) lack reading comprehension, b) are bitter that your school made you read things, c) had a shit English teacher, d) social media taught you to hate Shakespeare to seem cool
