Random Death Battle Poll - 1
Gwyn Reynolds is an absurdly intelligent trap of a boy who made himself the unofficial student of Dante Koryu... by stalking him and randomly turning up in the Victories building... after becoming interested in him and his blading when watching Dante and Delta battle Arthur. He is said to be capable of solving any math problem that exists, and up to his time as a blader had never been wrong in any of his calculations or predictions. Gwyn has always willingly holed himself up on his own, doing the same thing over and over. Despite attempts from his mum to get him to find a friend, he could never connect with anyone. His intellectual pursuits were more important. To Gwyn, the world is run on equations and formulae. They are how he judges everything and if something can't be proven by them, then they are doomed to fail. To every problem, there is always a solution.
As time went on, Gwyn was forced to look at his own emotional constitution and evolved in this regard from staunch antagonist and stubborn adversary who just wanted the opposite half to leave immediately to trusted ally near the end.
However, Dante successfully defying Gwyn's predictions started something off. A combination of the hit to his self-pride, an ever growing obsession with Dante, and the disconnect between Gwyn's conscious self and his subconscious self began to slowly drive Gwyn mental. It reached boiling point when he actively tried to reset everything and given the basis of Genesis and the tier Burst is in for a power sense, considering it to mean resetting the universe itself would not be far fetched at all. Beyblade is absurd enough to pull that sort of thing. It didn't help that Gwyn has very low emotional intelligence, and was desperate to find the answer as to why he couldn't get Dante off his mind (and why Dante favoured Delta).
Thankfully, thanks to Genesis and Dante both, Gwyn was able to make a mental recovery and make Dante his friend in a healthy manner all while discovering the meaning behind bonds to put an end to the perpetual squabble inside his heart between the conscious and subconscious. Basically, a loner and a yandere were fighting inside Gwyn's heart and it was slowly destroying him.
Gwyn also happens to be incredibly manipulative and willing to lead many people down a path to certain doom by the use of information. He lead Dante on prior to his obsession forming into a scenario where he could kill Dragon (shattering a bey is basically murder), as Gwyn also became interested in emulating Arthur who had murdered the previous iteration of Dragon with Apocalypse. Then he decided to use Arthur as a puppet for the sole purpose of getting closer to Dante - the only person in the entire world this genius cares about. To hell with (almost) all the rest. Regardless, he's not a bad person in the end, though he can be misinterpreted as one. Despite his name, looks and voice, Gwyn isn't a girl. Maybe he ought to be. There's 'trap' and then there's Gwyn Reynolds.
This battle can be anything. It doesn't have to be a physical fight, maybe a contest of manipulation involving third parties with the intent of forcing the opponent to submit first.

With about 1235 votes, Wyll beat Garrus in the finals of the tournament. This gives him the title of best tumblr rpg blorbo and babygirl.

Wyll jumped into the tournament qualifying among 69 total characters, and being the most voted of his section in round zero! Wyll was also the most voted OVERALL in round one where he got about 6420 votes against Cullen (88% of votes). Round two saw him winning a very close competition against Zevran, and in round three he won with almost double the votes against Astarion! Again with double the votes he won against Dorian Pavus in the semifinals!
Very appropriate for him to win as his character is truly a romantic at heart and his actor even revealed in an interview that the romantic scenes were his favorite to film.
Wyll is a companion and romancable option for any gender in Baldur's Gate 3. You will meet him while he is in pursuit of a devil, just to find out that the honor and code he is trying to live by might be clashing with the path he could be choosing.
Wyll's romance has a kiss that has been nominated (and won) for "favorite kiss ever in a rpg game by me and for my opinion only and I just love it".

Kaiju Week in Review (October 22-28, 2023)

Another Godzilla Day, another short from Kazuhiro Nakagawa to keep the series' tokusatsu roots alive. Fest Godzilla 4: Operation Jet Jaguar will see the grinning robot battle the King of the Monsters in live-action for the first time ever. I think that's why seeing the Final Wars Godzilla opposite a replica Jet Jaguar suit is even more surreal than his bout against the Showa Gigan last year. When the short drops on November 3, be sure to download it ASAP, because Toho doesn't like to keep them up for long.
I already posted about the unbelievable Movie Monster Series Bagan figure revealed last night, but it was accompanied by four more new figures: a glittery MinusGoji, an 8-inch black Kiryu, a quadrupedal Landing Stage Hedorah, and this year's fan poll winner, Flower Beast Form Biollante. The Kiryu is a homage to a theater-exclusive figure from Godzilla: Tokyo SOS, though it actually has more paint apps. They're all Godzilla Store exclusives.
TOHO Visual Entertainment has released Godzilla (1954) and Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) on 4K, the first of a flurry of Godzilla titles debuting in 4K this year. (There's also a Blu-ray for each that uses the same 4K restoration.) The people I turn to for judgment on these things (@spacehunter-m, @tohocompanylimited-blog, and a few others) aren't thrilled, especially with Mothra vs. Godzilla, which compares unfavorably with the HD version of the shorter Toho Champion Festival cut. Both are improvements over what was previously available on home video, but that's not saying much.
Mothra vs. Godzilla unfortunately does not include the Frontier Missile scene as a bonus feature. (Don't know what all those nice-looking screenshots of it from the recent Mothra vs. Godzilla Completion book were about then.) It does offer eight-and-a-half minutes of unused effects footage, some of it making its home video debut, as well as four more minutes of set footage and a theater showing the film. Both films offer a ton of trailers, the most interesting of which is an export trailer for G54. Some of the ballyhoo ("incredible titan of terror!") would later be used for the U.S. release, and @biorante discovered that the subtitles are a near-exact match with the old BFI DVD. So it's possible to almost exactly recreate what the film would have looked like when it screened in, say, Honolulu in 1955.
This is strictly local news, but I know some of you are fellow upstate New Yorkers, so I'm throwing it in anyway. Rochester's Little Theatre will be showing Destroy All Monsters on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This'll be the first Godzilla film I've seen there since Rialto distributed the original in 2004. The runtime and release date match the AIP version, so fingers crossed they landed the same 35mm print that screened at the Mahoning this summer.
Big week coming up, though even bigger if you live in Japan. For the Americans reading this, a reminder that Godzilla 2000 is in theaters the night of November 1.

Seeing people vote on these polls is so awesome, I’m happy there’s still fellow fossil fighters out there!
Does anyone here have confirmation of Fossil Fighters online play functionality on the unofficial Nintendo DS server? We should choose a time and then all try to match with each other for a Fossil Battle.
I honestly don’t know, I’m not the right person to ask about FF Online, I never really got to try it out myself because I just liked reviving my fellas.
But yeah, I am also very happy to see the support this blog has been getting (even if my auto-correct has decimated at least two vivos in the poll choices. Sorry Gomp and Frontier Zino). I love Fossil Fighters, and while I don’t always use every Vivosaur, I always find something to love in each and every one! Part of the reason I made the propaganda sections was to share what I like about the vivos (and to make jokes)
I love seeing everybody’s tags, even if it’s something as small as “[VIVO NAME] SWEEP”. It makes me happy, and I WILL be using some of my favorite tags as propaganda for the next round!

Digimon Top Tamer Tournament- Anime Bracket
The spirit of pointless March Madness-inspired brackets brings a pair of tournaments to determine the top tamer in Digimon! Spanning the length of the franchise from Adventure to Ghost Game, 132 characters have entered either the anime side or the video game/manga side. Following the poll earlier this week, first round matchups are primarily within each series, with Adventure getting isolated pods to winnow itself down a bit before being unleashed upon the rest of the world. Also when we say Adventure, both the original and reboot are included… with different round one matchups! Let’s get into it:
Courage Field is one of the 75% Adventure regions, which means a possible third-round match between original and reboot Taichi. But first one may have to fight his sister in round two while the other finally gets the scrap with Yamato we all sorely missed in 2020. In the movies pod, Wallace gets to meet Menoa Bellucci and Meiko awaits the winner of one of our four play-in games. These will open up today and will narrow the field down to 64 before the tournament begins next week. It’s a thing the actual March Madness does because money. Here it’s a way to make sure everything works.
The top of Miracle Space is Zero Two’s domain, and no doubt the Sweet Sixteen poll between its winner and the other half of Adventure will be hotly contested. But first note the two matches between future spouses. Since we haven’t seen the reboot kids as adults, feel free to headcanon a third or even a fourth in the 2020 matches with Takeru vs. Hikari and Mimi vs. Joe. Outside Adventure, the Lee family squares off in one of three sibling matches and Tagiru will see either friend or foe depending on the outcome of the second play-in game.
Because it’s the closest thing Takato has to a crest or spirit. Here we’ll see DATS operators Miki and Megumi battle in a play-in for the right to meet work husband Tohma. On a related note, Frontier’s Junpei is already slotted in against Izumi and Haru will see his best friend Yuujin. In Xros Wars land, the loose team of Ryouma and Airu face off while Zenjirou finally gets his rematch against Taiki. There are only two crossover matches in the first round, and this one between computer whizzes Rei (from Appmon) and Kiyoshiro (from Ghost Game) promises to be a treat.
Fire District goes straight to the gut as Frontier gives us one match between actual brothers and one between surrogate brothers. Another sibling fight awaits the Amanos Nene and Yuu. Speaking of siblings, two precocious little ones will meet in the other crossover match: Chika from Savers against Hajime from Appmon. Another Savers-Appmon battle will happen in round two and it will be a punch-fest if Masaru and Eri survive their first round opponents.
The First Four matches are now open and will run for a week! Once that wraps up, the Courage Field and Fire District brackets begin play on Monday with Miracle Space and Hazard Zone starting Tuesday. Polls will run for a week on both Tumblr and Twitter, with votes combined. The next round starts a day later. Also make sure to check the Video Game/Manga tournament running concurrently!

I love how it makes sense in-universe that Ingo and Emmet would be so high in popularity polls. From a game standpoint, it’s quite crazy considering how players only encounter those two in an optional battle facility and they have max 10 or so lines. But in the context of Unova, they run the main public transit system and probably interact with a lot more people than the average gym leader, of course they will be well-known. On top of that, there are only 2 or 3 more relevant battle facilities in the region, of which don’t have any notable trainers aside from Benga, unlike the Battle Frontiers or Battle Maison.

Huh. What's this guy doing here? I thought this art series was focused on the ORAS designs! ... Yeah well, funny story. I know I've been saying up to this point that I was a Sapphire player as a kid, but that's...not entirely true. Sapphire may have been my entry point into Hoenn, but when Emerald came out, I absolutely played it more than both Ruby and Sapphire. I always preferred the third version of the set (at least, until they decided to stop making them for any number of reasons, either wanting to make direct sequels or AU updates and now DLC), so I poured my heart into Emerald. As a result, while I'm not really planning to do the characters exclusive to the battle facilities for any of these so I'm not doing Battle Frontier (sorry!), I couldn't just leave that game's exclusive Gym Leader behind, and when I asked via a Twitter poll...roughly a year ago now probably, the people seemed to agree with me. So here's Juan to remind us of the GBA days! And while I do love the ORAS redesigns, I gotta say that most of the original RSE designs hold up pretty well too, and Juan not getting a remake design iirc means he can stand as a testament to that :3

Info and Masterlist
Right now I have ideas for 3 main tournaments. The first one will be movies (done!), then depending on how that goes I’ll do TV shows (happening now!) and characters (done!). I’m open to suggestions for more. I’m also only doing things that I’ve seen, so I’m excluding Rangi’s Catch, Other Halves, Mauri, The Rainbow Warrior Conspiracy, Shark In The Park, New Zealand at War, The Reluctant Hero, Te Ao Mahana, Missing Christmas, Mt. Zion, Dawn, Meke, Echo 3, The Woman in Blue, and Far North. (If anyone can point me in the direction of any of those I would love to watch them and add them to the polls. I’m in the US and don’t currently have a VPN.)
Each round of polls will last one week. I’ll add links to watch the movies/shows if it’s easily accessible and free. This is so if you haven’t seen one or both movies/shows in a poll, you can still make an educated guess as to which one(s) you would like more. If there’s a tie, I’ll count my vote as invalid and advance the one I didn’t vote for.

I'm not very good at the classic games or anything, this one is just groovy :3 in general I really like the themes from Sonic Rush, esp the "Blazy Mix" ones! This is a good medley of a bunch of songs from that game:
I also like a lot of the music from Unleashed and Frontiers :3 I can't think of specific stages RN...
✨ Dream Sonic Game?
Hmmm probably the mythical third Storybook Series game! They had Sonic and the Black Knight (King Arthur) and Sonic and the Secret Rings (Arabian Nights,) there's always been rumors it was supposed to be a trilogy and I love those games and their storytelling so I'd be really hype to know what the third story would be. Some people said it would have been Greek mythology bc that won a poll Sega put out, but that feels kinda boring to me. Maybe an Old West story would be cool!
Either that or Sonic Chronicles 2...I really liked that one, and it ended on a cliffhanger bc of Ken Penders' lawsuit about it.
😊 Favorite friendship/platonic relationship?
This one is hard bc my whole way of "shipping" in Sonic is sort of. Maybe romantic maybe platonic I don't really distinguish the two in Sonic bc they're all just best buds.
Maybe Shadow and Rouge? They're cool together, and Rouge feels like she really cares about Shadow and his whole. Issues™™™. She seems like a good and caring friend to him which I think is hard for him to have. Like, it feels like her care for him is not dissimilar to putting out a bowl of cat food on your porch for a stray cat, she's available when he needs him but doesn't make a big deal about it.
Silver and Blaze also are cool friends, and somewhat similar.
I also rly like Sonic and Knuckles and their rivalry. They're cool best buds.
