Antisemites aren't allowed to enjoy content or characters created by Jewish people. They're also not allowed to enjoy Jewish characters either. Sorry, those are the rules! 🤷🏽♀️

"In the stories, I was given agency only when my actions would make me seem spiteful and shallow." -Trista Mateer, Aphrodite Made Me Do it
"Lacking a community of Jewish women to counter the perceptions of a male-defined Jewish culture or a WASP-defined feminist one, our heritage of power as Jewish women is translated into anxiety lest we be dominating Jewish mothers, lest we be perceived as 'taking over', or lest there be a Princess lurking in our souls." -Judith Plaskow, Standing Again at Sinai
"You have to be a boss, but you can't be mean. You have to lead, but you can't squash other people's ideas. You're supposed to love being a mother, but don't talk about your kids all the damn time. You have to be a career woman but also always be looking out for other people. You have to answer for men's bad behavior, which is insane, but if you point that out, you're accused of complaining. You're supposed to stay pretty for men, but not so pretty that you tempt them too much or that you threaten other women because you're supposed to be a part of the sisterhood. But always stand out and always be grateful. But never forget that the system is rigged. So find a way to acknowledge that but also always be grateful. You have to never get old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line. It's too hard! It's too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you. And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault." Greta Gerwig, Barbie
"You are kind of doing a constant strategy in your head as to how not to be shamed for something on any given day but then you get accused of being calculated for having a strategy." -Taylor Swift, Miss Americana
"I don't get angry when I'm pissed, I'm the eternal optimist, I scream inside to deal with it." -Olivia Rodrigo, all american bitch

“Barbie” has finally been released to theaters.
Multiple Jewish actors appear in the film, including Kingsley Ben-Adir, Hari Nef, Ana Cruz Kayne, Ariana Greenblatt, Marisa Abela, and Rhea Perlman.
The inventor of the Barbie doll, Ruth Handler, was also Jewish.
Noah Baumbach, who co-wrote the script with the film’s director Greta Gerwig, is Jewish as well.

I’m genuinely surprised to know that there are no officially released Mattel products for Barbie that reference Jewish religious or cultural customs. I genuinely would have thought that there would be at least one by now - at least as a part of a collectors series, if nothing else.
This comes as a particular surprise as the creator of Barbie, Ruth Handler, and Barbie’s namesake, Ruth’s daughter Barbara, were Jewish women. In fact, when Saudi Arabia commented on the ban on the sale of Barbie dolls, one of the reasons given for this is that Barbie was Jewish.
Most of the mass market Barbies produced around the December season tend to be marketed as secular “Holiday” Barbies rather than naming Christmas or any other religious celebration.
I think it’s fair to say a lot of these dolls appear Christmas-adjacent, using iconography associated with e.g. Santa, candy canes and Christmas trees.
And there are some that explicitly refer to Christmas or Easter, though typically with a lean to the less religious aspects of the holiday, like gift giving and egg collecting.
And there are Barbies that have been released themed around religious and/or cultural celebrations from around the world - just to name a few, there are Barbies to celebrate Kwanzaa, Diwali, and Dia de los Muertos.
So personally, I think Barbie is overdue for a Jewish culture Barbie - what do you think?

Honestly how DARE the Barbie movie come out during the Nine Days.
I propose an early screening on Tuesday afternoon strictly for the frum Jews. I don’t want to wallow in self-pity for a week.
