David as Crowley is simply stunning. The walk, the swagger, the sass, the grimaces, the silliness, the whole not-nice-but-kind stuff, the hopeless devotion, the heartbreaking confession. He’s wonderful, and the character allows him to express his full potential as an incredible actor.
Aziraphale is a subtler character to play and to appreciate. Michael’s amazing work is all about micro expressions, twisting hands, glances (loving, lingering, scared, angry, furtive, haunted, starry), eyebrows (“you don’t seem his type”), longing sighs, gentle touches, tormented hesitation, childish enthusiasm… and adorable, awkward silliness, of course. This character may not pierce the screen as fast as Crowley does, but sometimes he hits deeper, and an equal mastery is required to bring him to life.
Plus, as @neil-gaiman said, they really are a set, enhancing each other’s talent, making each other shine brighter.
Congratulations to David, he really deserves this nomination… and let’s hope Michael will get one for S3!

Sorry I'd forgotten Good Omens was a comedy. Here's a few reminders that it wasn't all about the final fifteen and how funny DT is. Reblog with your fave silly pics.

Breaking a over 15 year BAFTA curse by getting a nomination for a gay love confession as the campiest demon to grace our screens? David Tennant, nobody is doing it like you

I can't stop thinking about the fact that, of all the roles David could have been nominated for over the years, the one that finally got him the BAFTA nom was Crowley. And it's not just that it was camp, or a love story, or the gayest role imaginable (although all three are quite true). It's that the role of Crowley has become so personal for David. It's that playing Crowley brought him closer to Michael, but even more importantly, it's brought David closer to himself. It's that playing Crowley hasn't merely changed him--it has helped him accept who he always was. And that's something he will have forever, regardless of whether the BAFTAs "accept" him or give him the win.
I really love that for David, on so many levels. I just hope he knows how much he deserves it...

The Guardian says "BAFTA voters have a fear of voting for evil"
Tumblr media
BAFTA nominates a literal DEMON. At heart a little bit of a good person. Yes OK we know Crowley is not evil, but the irony..
@neil-gaiman you wrote the words they did the business. It's somehow thrilling that this is the thing that got DT his first BAFTA nomination.
Excerpt for article under the cut
Among performers, the biggest surprise is that, at 52, David Tennant, by consensus one of our finest screen and stage actors, only now gets his first main Bafta nomination (the Welsh and Scottish academies have previously noticed him), and in the Comedy section for Good Omens. Tennant’s earlier mistake with Academy voters may have been to appear in work considered either too populist (Doctor Who, Broadchurch), or too brutal, such as the serial killer in the miniseries Des.
Certainly, Bafta voters have recently shown a reluctance to reward repugnant criminals. It seems striking that James Norton, as the baddie in Happy Valley, misses out while Sarah Lancashire as the good cop seems certain to win her category, although Norton’s contribution to the extraordinary final scene was equally outstanding. Amid this apparent fear of voting “for” evil, Steve Coogan’s recognition for his Jimmy Savile in The Reckoning feels a rare case of absolute technical mastery (the voice, look and inner moral void perfectly captured) overcoming concerns about content.

The BAFTAS are going to play a clip of David Tennant from season two. 😍 I cant help but think that they are going to focus on the fact that this show is a comedy. Supposedly.
I’ve seen some things about the final fifteen being shown, but I can’t be alone in thinking the clips they edit together for his nomination are gonna be Bildad heavy.
Personally I think hope the Sent here to destroy you all!! scenes make it into the clip.
Considering the fact that it also has David’s favorite line, it’s gonna be that right?? I’m not alone right?!
Crowley does prefer the funny ones.

It’s just so poetic. When he is finally nominated for a BAFTA, it’s not for a high profile expected role like Des or Broadchurch, it’s for Crowley and Good Omens, where they really began. A role Michael has said blurred lines between them on screen and off screen and that he has been incorporating in his life and a role that is forever linked to Michael as his screen partner. Michael Sheen literally changed his life ❤️.
Yes! It’s the fact as well that this role changed David so much. He’s been channeling Crowley like mad this year, he’s inserting a quote here and there during the events, all the outfits, he’s focusing so much on Michael, he became more comfortable in his skin, he is scoring the best jobs and it’s like he’s suddenly everywhere… Believing in himself finally, which Michael clearly had a lot to do with, and it’s really paying off.
I hope he gets the BAFTAs. I hope he gets the Oliviers. This is his year. Bloody finally.
