David as Crowley is simply stunning. The walk, the swagger, the sass, the grimaces, the silliness, the whole not-nice-but-kind stuff, the hopeless devotion, the heartbreaking confession. He’s wonderful, and the character allows him to express his full potential as an incredible actor.
Aziraphale is a subtler character to play and to appreciate. Michael’s amazing work is all about micro expressions, twisting hands, glances (loving, lingering, scared, angry, furtive, haunted, starry), eyebrows (“you don’t seem his type”), longing sighs, gentle touches, tormented hesitation, childish enthusiasm… and adorable, awkward silliness, of course. This character may not pierce the screen as fast as Crowley does, but sometimes he hits deeper, and an equal mastery is required to bring him to life.
Plus, as @neil-gaiman said, they really are a set, enhancing each other’s talent, making each other shine brighter.
Congratulations to David, he really deserves this nomination… and let’s hope Michael will get one for S3!

I think @neil-gaiman would like that too!
I am officially praying to the Universe and Amazon executives to give us Good Omens Season 3 episodes weekly (or at the very least daily).
As much as I am a human of the 21st century and hard wired to want immediate gratification, can you imagine what it would be like to get weekly drops for season 3?
Can you imagine what an insane 6 weeks it would be here on Tumblr while season 3 aired? And if not 6 weeks, even if they managed to do it as daily drops, can you imagine that week? It would be like a goddamn festival, a celebration, and it would be insane. Things would be trending off the charts while people watched the episodes over and over again breaking them apart while they wait for the rest. We would all be discussing everything and theorizing and gushing over every little piece!
Look, I'm not going to be disappointed by any means if I can melt into my couch for 6 hours and consume the entire finale of this story, but if it gets stretched out man, wouldn't that be an experience for us all?

So I religiously watched Mirrormask as a young child since it was one of the only movies in the house we had. Problem is, literally NOBODY I've ever talked to has seen this movie. I love Aziraphale because he's expected to be hard, to be a warrior, but he chooses to be soft. He's not gentle, kind, and good because he's an angel. We've seen what the other angels are like and many of them are anything but. And there's no doubt that he could be that warrior if he wanted. He was issued a flaming sword, after all. But he gave it away and seemed none to eager to use it when he finally picked it up again. No, he is who he is because he chooses to be that way again and again.
I adore that. In a world that's often so hard and in a system that expects him to be just as hard, he chooses to be soft. To be silly. He learns to dance even though angels don't dance. He learns magic and French the human way. Successful or not, he likes playing parts, living it up as a double agent and newspaperman. He wears glasses because he thinks they're nifty. He enjoys eating food and going to the barber not because he has to but because he likes being pampered. To be fussy and indulgent. Despite strength and miraculous powers, he makes himself vulnerable so that he can be coddled and rescued.
And it's not like it's easy for him. He has to struggle against what's expected of him and against judgment from the other angels. He was worried about doing the wrong thing before the beginning, before there was even really a concept of the wrong thing. He's so terribly anxious but he doesn't let it stop him from trying to do real good. He did his part to save Job's family, even when he was certain he would fall for it.
Most difficult of all, he loves. Is in love. A thing humans do, he says to the Archangels in S2. So that's not just some easy, natural, angelic thing for him. It's very human and very scary because it's not really something he's meant to do and especially not with a demon. But he pushes slowly forward as best he can. He risks small touches and can't help but wear his heart on his sleeve with that all too expressive face. He's the angelic embodiment of heart eyes. Because he wants to love and be loved.
This isn't all he is, of course. He can be bitchy and petty and hard when pushed. He can be the warrior he was built to be. Those aren't bad things. Just enough of a bastard and all that. But just enough also means they also don't define him.
Which is where my frustration comes in. I understand the desire to flip the script sometimes. I like to do it myself from time to time and definitely think Aziraphale should be allowed to take charge. But it feels like, more often than not, large parts of fandom have taken those moments and made them all of who he is. Of the two of them, he's often made to be much more impassive and distant than Crowley. It's Crowley who is more emotional, who is more overcome physically. Despite the fact that it's almost entirely Aziraphale in canon who reaches and touches. Despite Michael Microexpressions Sheen putting so much open heart into Aziaphale's face. He isn't allowed to be soft and needy, comforted, coddled, and rescued. To be the one who yearns and lets himself be weak with it.
Just... let him be soft and silly. Let him be the person he most often chooses to be.

I think I talk a lot about loving Crowley, but now I want to talk about Aziraphale because the reasons I love him most I think are perhaps worth sharing.
Going back to heaven: Yes, he totally destroyed us. But it's an attempt to change a system, and you have to think about the fact that heaven is not a system like any government you can find in our reality. It is an entity that CREATED THE UNIVERSE. The level of power that heaven has is something unimaginable next to any equivalent in our world. And this angel had the audacity to say: Yes, I'm going to try to fix it.
You broke my heart, AND you made me love you more in the process. The fucking audacity
Being Enough of a Bastard: Have you ever noticed those moments where Aziraphale throws out phrases that seem innocent, but at the same time if you think about it too much, they are a... my life what are you doing?
Commenting to Gabriel about human clothing after Gabriel despised human food.
Asking Crowley if he had better ideas or ONE better idea
Challenging authority: He does it in a subtle way, he does it in a way that minimises the risk of retaliation, but he does it.
Being in a room full of high ranking angels and high ranking demons and just telling them "shut up and let's see what Beelzebub and Gabriel want" MY LIFE I LOVE YOU
When he was trying to save Job's children.
In his conversation with Metatron. Yes, he eventually gave in, but he was defying him.
In hell when he was pretending to be Crowley
I am not usually inclined to love characters who are defined as the "always do the right thing" the "morally right" the "good one"
I tend to respect those characters, but they are not usually the character that makes me go: OH GODS I WANT TO BE ABLE TO MANIPULATE REALITY TO MAKE EVERYTHING PERFECT FOR YOU, YOU ARE THE MOST PERFECT BEING I'VE EVER SEEN
And Aziraphale does that. And at the same time, he is enough of a bastard. And oh fuck, how much i love that bastard part
Also, I can't leave here without mentioning Michael "acting choices" Sheen. I've never been so interested in an actor that I started watching every single thing they acted in as if my life depended on it, BUT I'M DOING IT FOR THIS MAN
Every expression he chooses to make, every movement, reflects so well the reality of Aziraphale that I can only say that it's perfection
I believe in perfection simply because I saw Michael Sheen being Aziraphale, and Aziraphale being Aziraphale

Aziraphale suggested something Crowley could never accept, but Crowley’s suggestion was also terrible - BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO NON-TERRIBLE OPTIONS AND IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT.

Neil and Terry said it clearly 30 years ago: “Many people, meeting Aziraphale for the first time, formed three impressions: that he was English, that he was intelligent, and that he was gayer than a treeful of monkeys on nitrous oxide. Two of these were wrong.” 😏
Okay, now we're just being mean
Aziraphale was partly responsible for planning the fake birth trick in A Companion To Owls
He swapped his clothes with the executioner's so he wouldn't get in trouble for doing another frivolous miracle
He put Jeffrey Archer books in his shop so he'd have an excuse for why it smelled demonic
He came up with the idea of having humans search for Adam
He thought of the idea that "the number of the beast" might be Adam's phone number
He came up with the "half a miracle each" idea, which almost certainly would have worked had it not been for the totally unprecented fact that apparently he and Crowley's love (or something like that) somehow made it 25,000x more powerful
He came up with the "Oh, I did that miracle to make Maggie and Nina fall in love" story, which fooled the archangels and gave him and Crowley time to figure out what to do next
He figured out and successfully executed a way to steal the incriminating 1941 photo from Furfur in five seconds flat
He then took Crowley back to his bookshop to keep him safe in case the demons came for him anyway, because they couldn't get in there - which was probably 90% of the reason Aziraphale opened an "embassy" in the first place
He claimed the Bentley as his and Crowley's joint property so demons wouldn't be able to get into it without permission and kidnap Crowley anymore
The Jane Austen ball did help Maggie and Nina grow closer and precipitated what might yet turn out to be a romance between them
He opened the portal to heaven to discorporate the demons
And (drumroll please) he was the one who figured out that the Great Plan and the Ineffable Plan were different - arguably the hinge that the entire plot of Season 1, and probably Seasons 2 and 3 as well, turns on
And I know there's several more I'm forgetting.
He and Crowley are both incredibly savvy.
