dylan is an emotional ping pong. he’s playful with his quips. and he’s fairly forward in showing his interest with ryan too. he’s like that guy you know who people generally like because of their playful nature, but who is annoying. but their annoyance is tolerable because it comes from affection rather than malice.
at the same time though, he frantically panics in tense situations:
he freaked out bad when nick was in danger. backing away from the situation. reluctant to help probably from being lost in his thoughts
he freaked out bad in the shed. when he found out their position was compromised, and when he backed away from warning his friends outside
he freaked out bad in the cabin. when he ran away by himself and ditched kaityln as she secured the door when the bear chased them (although credit where credit is due at the scrapyard)
ryan is more centered. despite his standoffish and introverted demeanor, he rose to the occasion to become assertive and courageous. he’s the one who calmed dylan down when he lost himself.
this kind of trope amuses me. ryan is the one who has to cuddle coddle dylan because when dylan freaks out, he freaks out.

Au idea: Instead of Max and Laura arriving day early it's Ryan and Dylan instead. Before the camp starts they decide to carpool together and Dylan convinces Ryan to go into camp day early. Since Ryan knows Chris he goes along with it. All the same shit goes down and Ryan and Dylan end up stuck together with just each other as company for two months straight.

I'm sorry but I'm in the camp "Ryan liked neither Dylan nor Kaitlyn"
sure DYLAN has a crush on him but it is so one-sided with the exception of one kiss because why whouldn't you kiss a pretty boy for a game? the funniest part is that if you, playing as Dylan, double down on something that Ryan doesn't really like, he gets so pissed, it's fucking hilarious, but it also includes like every second choice as Dylan (or, even better, every first if you play as Ryan), that shipping-wise... Dylan deserves better
