In the era of Kyoshi, a scrap of ancient history was discovered. Faded by centuries of dust and neglect, all that could be discerned from the tattered parchment was the words, "Dai Li's agents brought balance to the chaos of Ba Sing Se." It is from this that Kyoshi would find the inspiration to establish a new police force in Ba Sing Se in her era. But what of the original Dai Li? Thousands of years before Kyoshi, Kuruk, and Yangchen--a history all but lost to time--the world teetered on the brink. Nations one incident from all out war, environments destroyed by the greed of man, and spirits angered by the insolence of humanity. The spirits threatened to wipe them all out, unless the humans could make a change. From this chaos, a man named Dai Li attempted to unite the world. With his charismatic aura and strange bending abilities, he all but compelled his followers to complete devotion. His power spread, commanding total submission. His daughter, however, would ruin his plans. After his first fall, Dai Li, thought dead, faded into obscurity, and his daughter, granted a strange power by the last Lion Turtle, rose to fill the void of the absent Avatar. Ten years later, Dai Li would rear his head again, and Juno, knowing humanity under Dai Li's rule would have no humanity at all, sought out her own band of benders to take on her father. With all their differences and flaws, she will have her work cut out for her as they face Dai Li's enigmatic cult, their own demons, and the Avatar of whom no one speaks.
Another teaser of my fic, Avatar: Threads of Power, which I hope to be posting soon! (As in, like, the next couple days, hopefully.) This is Kelsang, the character I played in the original TTRPG on which the fic is based.

I don't like how the say that BSS was getting xenophobic like sure it isn't wrong but, rhetoric is important, and calling a native population xenophobic for hating the people who for nearly 2 years non-stop sieged their fucking city is... weird.

"Who are you"
a comic a long time coming showing one of my favorite scenes from my ATLA game. My character is the airbender, Sora. Seraphine belongs to my friend Sarina, she's the one in the grey. Seraphine's cousin, Asira, is an NPC and arc-villain.
This is only one half of this conversation! After Seraphine left, Sora had a chance to interact with Asira one on one and their conversation was even more dramatic, but this is a nice stopping half-way point to post what I've finished so far.

Sometimes my character gets compared to ATLA's Zuko, so I'm working on a quick sketch of them both meeting so that we can all laugh at the accidental similarities. Also, here is a free picture of my cat because I'm testing to see if it boosts me in the algorithm. Cheers!

Twelve Toed Ping, my Avatar Legends OC
Tumblr media
"There was already a Twelve Toed Ping on the south side." - Two Toed Ping
Ping is a down on her luck Metalbending construction worker who grew up in Green Meadows, the most industrialized district of Republic City. Her home was destroyed during Kuvira's invasion and so she's been living in the refugee camps with her family (and best friend Bolo the raccoon dog) and taking on odd jobs for whoever pays well enough, including acting as occasional muscle for the Triads. Despite life throwing obstacle after obstacle in front of her, she remains a compassionate and kind person who always looks on the bright side and tries her best to help others (I went with the Idealist playbook!).
Unlike a certain other twelve toed character from the Legend of Korra canon, Ping does not actually have twelve toes, and instead earns her nickname from simply having unusually large feet and a rather low center of gravity.

Fresh new faces!! The new TTRPG characters just dropped, and I am now offering these for every supporter 🤍 You can access the past avatars too - and suggestions are welcomed in the comments aswell! Although I'll probably make some mermaids next month ~
This is such a great opportunity for me to practice character design and draw characters I haven't drawn a lot. And the fact that I can give these characters to multiple people to enjoy is just a wonderful bonus n_n
Check it out!

I just remembered that I have cropped and resized all of the shadowrun avatar pictures I've done some years back and that I should perhaps maybe... tell people about it?
Tumblr media
Anyhoo - free to use (non-commercially) shadowrun avatars on the other side of this link ^^
If you would like to use them commercially, you can contact me about it. Maybe I'm fine with it anyways, depends on the project.

For a tabletop game I really enjoy called Frostgrave, you’re encouraged to come up with anything for miniatures. It started with just some Benders for Wizards, but I ended up making a whole band of ATLA minis

The Gift of Dice - Intro Post
I am Gabriel Caetano (they/them), and I am a queer, Latine parent, TRPG creator, audio producer, and game facilitator (aka GM) from Brazil.
Roleplaying Games
I make tabletop Roleplaying Games, as well as TTRPG-adjacent experiences.
I like fantasy, science fantasy, and weird fantasy the most and I have been more and more invested in looking at games as enablers of social experimentation and questioning.
I like to say that every game I make is a product of excellent taste and developing skill.
You can find my games at https://thegiftofdice.itch.io/

Indie Games Facilitator for Hire
I run and facilitate (aka GM) roleplaying games as a gig.
I have over 100 session under my belt, and growing, and a large catalogue of indie, alternative games to facilitate for players anywhere out there in the world, including Masks, Thirsty Sword Lesbians, Nibiru, Apocalypse Keys, Noctis Labyrinth, Troika!, Blades in the Dark, CBR+PNK, and many more.
You can browse through the dates I setup, or make a custom request.

Politics and Ethics
All TTRPG content has a price tag, except when I think it shouldn't, and all of them should have alternate methods of access for anyone who does not enjoy the privilege of earning dollars, euros, pounds, and other hegemon currencies.
Yet, non-white people, non-het, and non cis-male people anywhere who cannot afford to buy anything I make without putting their safety and well-being financially are welcome to get my stuff for free, one way or another.
I also offer seats for free or at a greatly reduced fee to people in the Global South, where the dollar exchange would make access to my game sessions absolutely crushing.
None of the content I create is compatible with Hasbro or Paizo products, or products by any company or individual that shares their ethics and predatory approach to industrializing an art form, on principle.
Additionally I do not use or rely on artificially generated content to create my games or run my sessions.
Game Design Principles
I've come across this game design manifesto and I've decided to adopt it for my own game design as best as I can and let it evolve as I grow as a game designer and writer.
against coercion: a game design manifesto by JPLeBreton
let players wonder about things and trust them to find answers;
connect players with patterns they find intrinsically fulfilling;
never treat a number going up as an inherently positive or meaningful even;
teach respect for the autonomy and boundaries of all things;
posit alternatives to fantasies of accumulation and extraction;
do not think of emotional responses as something you extract from players;
produce and distribute ethically;
aspire to more than escape.
Whether I'll succeed or fail at following these principles, or even how they will evolve over time, all I can say is let's play to find out.
Kindly, Gabriel Caetano
