SUPER LONG ITAPAN RAMBLE INCOMING!!!!
OKAY. OKAY. its been a while since ive rambled on this account so today im going to clear up how i see itapan so that no one gets confused when i say “i dont think they would ever date” and then proceed to draw them making out or whatever.
when you hear “one sided itapan” you might think italy has the stronger feelings (because he’s the one approaching and hugging and kissing japan or whatever) but i feel that it’s actually japan with the stronger feelings.
when italy’s affectionate towards japan, its not because he’s necessarily attracted to him, but that’s just how he behaves. i think that he’s kind of trying to lead him on so japan is nicer to him. italy has been coddled his entire life like he’s been taken care of by austria and hungary and spain and france and germany and literally everyone loves him. and he KNOWS that everyone loves him so he purposefully babies himself to others so he can get even more special treatment. hes an annoying little asshole who uses his good looks and weakness to get out of trouble and i love it!!!
throughout the series (both in anime, manga, and a little in hetamyu), japan actually grows a bit of a soft spot for italy because of how weak and pathetic he makes himself seem. at first he’s polite and awkward because he idolized italy to be strong and capable, but once his expectations are SHATTERED he gradually begins to want to take care of him in a way. he doesn’t get mad at him as often and sometimes even defends him when germany is upset or lecturing him (like in hetalia fantasia). he tucks him in bed and lets him sleep on his chest and share a bed and bathe together and do the gayest shit ever. i probably would’ve thought “well thats because he’s too polite to refuse” but he ACTIVELY wants to do this stuff with him. he puts a hand on his back to keep him in place when he rests on his chest. he visits italy often and loves to cook with/for him. he wants to learn how to hug and kiss him back even after italy says its fine. he writes him letters and a SONG where he asks italy to visit him and gives him a pressed flower bookmark. japan goes out of his way to return italy’s affection and spend time with him while italy just does it because he’s italy.
i dont really think it’s a “sad” one-sided crush because in the end they’re still friends! they still both care about each other and confide in one another and hang out. italy isnt just affectionate to japan because he wants to lead him on and get more special treatment, but because they’re friends and he does still like him platonically! they can act like a couple without actually BEING one and thats insane!!! i love that shit!!!!!
ive mentioned how itager/gerita was my first hetalia ship and it still stands as one of my favorites. the problem is that im PICKY with it because i dont like a lot of the fandoms’ interpretations of them. i guess i wasnt as picky with itapan and liked it simultaneously with (although much more than) itager. but when i rewatched all of hetalia over the spring i realized how much MORE i liked itapan in the context of itager, which kind of blew my mind. like i remember mentioning to some itapan friends how i think they would never date and i still stand with that today. like italy and germany are too busy trying to win eachother over and they would just get together instead. japan actually likes his friends though and wants them to be happy so he would just go “ok” and move on while still doing all that gay shit with them. i guess jt makes itapan more of a brotp but it doesnt make it any less enjoyable for me. i LIKE to see them hanging out and being friends and dont really mind fanart where they’re dating or whatever because i can just pretend that they’re not!
anyways sorry for being a little insane i hate itapan but i actually love itapan okay i love them okay yahoo!

Let’s get down to business and meet that awful, messy, and bloody event that was the Great War!
I’ll go ahead and assume that you know when/how/why it started and what the major players are, so I can focus on Italy. Italy was part of the Triple Alliance (Italy, Austria-Hungary, Germany), but relationships between Italy and Austria quickly deteriorated at the start of 1900 because of bitterness for the culturally Italian areas still part of Austria, and also due to the latter’s aggressive and expansionist politics and the worsening of its relationship with Russia. Also, one of the roles of the Alliance was to keep Italy under control, to avoid further patriotic wars after the Independence ones.
Furthermore, Italians are very good at finding loopholes (as anyone that’s played a board game or rpg with one of us knows), so when war broke out the government, fearing to side with the losers and wanting to see how things played out, pointed out that the Triple Alliance was a defensive agreement, that Austria was the one attacking, and that Germany and Austria-Hungary broke the agreed rules by not telling Italy beforehand of their purpose to declare war.
Italy was neutral, but not for long: ever since the Unification there was a strong movement to reclaim the terre irredente (unredeemed lands), aka those lands that were part of other nations but were historically/culturally Italian. Now, this was true for some of those regions, like Trentino and Trieste, but other regions included were a cultural and ethnic mess (like Istria, Gorizia, Dalmatia) and others were areas that were willingly sold long ago and/or had chosen freely to join other countries (like Corsica, Savoy and Nice). It was part honest patriotism, part a grab for power and lands.
The interventionist faction was very vocal and gained a big following; add in that the Alliance’s progress wasn’t as quick as planned, and that Italy feared retaliation if their former allies won, and by the end of 1914 Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs had secretly contacted the Triple Entente to negotiate compensation for Italy entering the fray at the Entente’s side.
For this reason, to us Italians, WWI is “the 15-18 war”, because we weren’t at war in 1914.
Despite reports about how the war was quickly becoming a long, drawn-out affair and about how modern artillery, machine-guns and chemical gas were changing war in a way never seen before, Italy joined the war still thinking it would be a relatively quick thing and soon they would comfortably sit on shiny, new borders by virtue of choosing to side with the winners at the right moment.
Of course, the war wasn’t quick nor clean, but a bloody, messy thing. Italy was woefully unprepared for war, with an outdated army and a backward industry. Add in military leaders that held on to ‘800 views of war and how an army should behave and an extremely strict military marshal (Luigi Cadorna), and the outcome is way too many dead and injured soldiers that could have been avoided.
In addition to the images of WWI “mud war” that have become popular, Italian (and Austro-Hungarian) soldiers faced the White War: fighting in the Alps, digging tunnels and trenches in the hard rock, finding a way to carry artillery and supplies on mountains (two-thirds of the border was above 2000 m of altitude), facing snow, freezing cold, avalanches. Regular troops had it bad enough, but everyone agrees that those fighting in the mountains had it worse, and estimates agree that about two-thirds of deaths on both sides were due to the cold and the environment rather than enemy action.
It was even more wearing than “regular” war: besides the charges and artillery fire, there was the ever-present fear of enemy sappers digging a tunnel right next to the ones you slept in, planting charges and detonating them to bury you alive. It was nothing short of nerve-wracking.
As I said, Italy wasn’t prepared to sustain a brief war, even less a long one and those in command were often nobles or, at best, bourgeoise, disconnected from the farmers and factory workers that composed most of the ranks, and attached to old-fashioned, ineffective tactics (as an example, Italy did have modern artillery, but the troops were poorly trained and there was little to no thought behind its use, defensive use was almost unheard of etc.). As a result, Italy suffered many losses and many defeats.
Morale wasn’t great to begin with, and Cadorna required and enforced very strict discipline, especially against deserters. While a deeper analysis shows that soldiers’ executions due to desertion were high, but not as much as his reputation would lead one to believe, it is true that he sacked, demoted or removed from command officers at an astonishing rate (usually because they refused to follow his suicidal orders, or because they did and as a consequence performed poorly).
Morale was very low, and while the stereotype of the Italian soldier as a coward only looking after himself is exaggerated, low morale was unavoidable given that they were smart enough to realize they were asked to risk their lives in senseless fights, obeying orders from men that didn’t care about them. Someone in command realized that they couldn’t magically rise soldiers’ morale by executions, so they created occasions for amusement and relaxation in the rear lines (often organized by priests, who understood the need for a bit of relief and peace) and, after Caporetto, even “trench newspapers”, full of propaganda but that also aimed, through drawings, cartoons and simple language to increase the literacy of the troops. Each issue was planned by artists, writers, pedagogues and teachers, to strike the right balance of amusing and instructional. Often it was soldiers that helped write some parts of their newspapers, helping create a sense of belonging and community, and the whole project was a success.
Most of the troops were farmers, and the others were usually from working-class backgrounds, too; many of them were completely illiterate and knew their regional dialect, but not Italian (or knew it poorly) because they didn’t need it in their everyday lives. For the first time since Italian Unification, poor people from all around Italy met and got to know each other, learning about their differences but also becoming united in the struggle for survival. More than 50 years after having created Italy, the grim tragedy of war finally granted Massimo d’Azeglio wish, creating (at least partially) an Italian people. Unfortunately, this also meant that much of that early national identity was steeped in a “us vs. them” mentality.
The age of conscripted men ranged from 1874 to 1900 (though they never saw combat), for a total of a bit over 5 million men. That’s 27 years and almost half of the Italian’s male population at the time. Of course, older years were less represented, the average soldier’s age was 28 years old, but that’s more than one generation taking part in the war and being scarred by it.
The young men from 1899 have a special place in our WWI remembrance. Called Ragazzi del ‘99 (Boys of ‘99), they were barely of age when conscripted, received a very basic and rushed training and were thrown on the front lines, especially after the Battle of Caporetto, to reinforce the front following the disastrous defeat. The poetic image of young soldiers valiantly defending Italy against enemy forces with their lives engraved them in people’s memories.
Oh, yeah, Caporetto. The dreadful WWI battle for us Italians, a disaster so grievous and probably avoidable that “Caporetto” still is very much alive in everyday use more than a century later, meaning a terrible and crushing defeat. The English wiki page, unfortunately, doesn’t examine the causes for the defeat as deeply as I’d like, but it can give you an idea of how badly Italy was beaten.
Cadorna was replaced, field officers were given more power instead of just following plans, Italians managed to create a defense line along the Piave, held it, and then counterattacked at Vittorio Veneto, a long battle that spanned several days after which the Austro-Hungaric defense lines’ broke and Italy finally had its victory. The war was almost over by then, and while the battle’s importance in the bigger picture is still debated by historians (it probably did precipitate the victory of the Entente, avoiding several months of further fighting), there’s no doubt that it was extremely important in molding Italy’s self-image as a European power.
At Caporetto many Italian soldiers were taken prisoner, and this leads us to another very dark page: prisoners of war. While conditions were poor for all POW, other nations realized after a few months that they had to support them to avoid them starving, or at least let families and charities to send them packages with food, clothes etc. Italians weren’t so lucky: the government and military command (especially Cadorna) considered them traitors and deserters and ruled they were to receive no support. Families sometimes managed to send them relief packages, but they rarely arrived untampered. It’s estimated that out of 600 000 Italian POW, around 100 000 died due to starvation, cold, or illnesses. And after the war, when their fellow soldiers at least got celebrated, they just… were forgotten. We have very few stats and stories about them because they just didn’t want to draw attention to themselves.
While soldiers’ bonds with each other were often very strong, the war created a big rift between them and civilians. Many soldiers wrote how they didn’t feel at ease while on leave: especially at the beginning, civilian newspapers were quite optimistic, the government refused to impose wartime austerity (fearing it would break the illusion of a “short war” in civilian minds) and the horrors of war were unheard of. The war happened mostly far from civilians (with a few exceptions, like the people living along front lines or those that suddenly found themselves in Austro-Hungarian territory after Caporetto), and many soldiers felt disconnected by this peaceful environment. In 1915 soldiers were forbidden to visit cafés while on leave, for fear that they might say too much about the true situation at the front in an environment usually full of dangerous folks like, say, Socialists or Communists.
While the truth about the war situation slowly emerged, soldiers still had reason for bitterness and resentment against the “imboscati” (literally “[those] hidden in the woods”, it means something like draft-dodger), men that weren’t conscripted because their jobs were deemed too important for the war effort and thus avoided the war. There was a misconception that farmers were conscripted while city’s factory workers weren’t, but the truth is that only some very specific trades and qualifications granted you that status. It’s simply that Italy at the time was still mostly made of farmers so the army’s composition reflected that, but the aforementioned farmers hadn’t the means to understand that and so the stereotype remained (helped by the fact that a soldier’s pay was very, very low).
As the war went on, the home front situation worsened too: austerity and rationing began, while many factories were converted to military ones. The lack of men meant that farmer families faced many difficulties, but it was a golden chance for women to enter the workforce as factory workers, something that was usually considered men’s work unsuited for delicate female hands and dispositions. Many women also found clerical work in areas previously forbidden to them, and even as Army’s secretaries.
On the other hand, those factories that were deemed “of military interest” lost many of the worker rights that were earned in the previous years: the salary was lowered, unions disbanded and overtime required. Overall, any area considered “war zone” faced a severe limitation of people’s rights. The definition of war zone changed over time, expanding and including most of Northern Italy by the end of the war. In these areas people lost the right to assembly, to any kind of political activity, to go on strike, etc.
Despite these huge limitations, there were protests and strikes. Thanks to German submarines making trade difficult, coal became scarcely available to civilians and of very low quality, and many cities had trouble providing enough bread for their now suddenly bigger population. The protests’ instigators were often women, fed up with having to work more for less, fearing for the lives of their husbands, sons, and relatives. From late 1916 and for most of 1917 strikes and protests were a daily event. Despite the government’s efforts to keep the peace and its massive use of propaganda, people didn’t want to be at war or endure hardships for political games many of them didn’t care for or know about.
The end of the war didn’t bring the joy nor the prosperity hoped for. Italy did get many of the lands it asked for (gladly gifted by the European powers eager to dismember the Austro-Hungarian Empire), but the city of Fiume had been promised to Croatia or Hungary. Irredentists used this as an excuse to create the myth of the “mutilated victory”, aka an incomplete one, saying that Italy was tricked. This led to Gabriele D’Annunzio’s occupation of Fiume in 1919 (which was short-lived) and planted the seeds of a rhetoric that would later be used by the Fascist Party to leverage populist fellings.
As it happened in almost any country that took part in WWI, the soldiers came home to a different country than the one they left, one that was eager to celebrate them but not to give them a job or to take care of their wounded. Many of them had not forgotten the way the government treated them, as disposable units, and this led to deep distrust. Many of them were farmers and went back to a backward agricultural system, and asked for land redistribution and compensation.
Many industries that had converted their production to a war-oriented one now were out of a job, and so were their former employees. With the wartime restrictions gone, unions and parties gained strength again and protests and upheavals became even more common (the news of the Russian Revolution played a part in this, of course). The government had huge debts with other nations (especially UK and USA), which further worsened the economic situation.
And let’s not forget the Spanish Flu epidemic, that further reduced the number of young, strong people that could help the nation rise again after the war.
Italy was a powder keg, just waiting for someone to light the fuse.

Japan: Hai, but I feel bad our Christmas celebration is so different from what you are accustomed to.
(Hai: Yes → Japanese)
Germany: Well, stop it.
(Japan: Eheuh!)
Germany: You should be proud of the culture you created. We all celebrate Christmas in our own way. If we take a look back through history…
Italy: What?! Don’t give us a lecture; that’s boring! I have a better idea! Wait!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Italy: If you want to see how other countries spend Christmas, I have pictures I can show you.
Japan: Thank you, I would like that.
Italy: First up is America.

{Caption: Lala la…la la…}
Krampus: Are you kids behaving? Let’s find out!
Austria: It appears just before Christmas to punish bad children before St. Nicolas arrives, which is a tradition some of you dummies could stand to adopt.
(Krampus: Grr…ahahahahaha! Ahahahahahaha!)
Krampus: Raaaaahhh!
(Austria: Euh?)
Voice: Waahhh!

Prussia: So find me a cool-looking tree! I’m counting on you!
Japan: Ehah…
(Prussia: Counting on you!)
Prussia: Counting on you!
Japan: What to do? It would be very rude for me to pick out a tree at random.
(Prussia: Counting on you! Counting on you!)
Japan: It must be special. A kadomatsu? Or perhaps…ehem…Prussia. I grew this bonsai tree with lots and lots of love and it is very precious to me. Please take good care of it.
Prussia: Woah, that is a cool-looking tree! But still wrong!
Narrator: After Prussia dropped that tannenbaum on Japan, he took matters into his own hands.
(Prussia: YAAAAAAAHHHHHH!)
(Tannenbaum: Christmas tree → German)
Narrator: He felt he wouldn’t rest until he found a fir tree.
Prussia: I won’t rest until I find a fir tree! Ha! Jackpot!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Britain: Have a look at this, old chap. We received a Christmas card from Japan.
Wales: A Christmas card from Asia?
{Text on card #1: Merry Christmas}
{Text on card #2: Japan}
Wales: Goodness. How exotic.
Britain: It would seem he’s trying to understand and engage with my culture on a deeper level.
(Japan: Ehehehe! Eheheheheh!)
Britain: And in that case…I probably ought to reciprocate in kind.
Wales: I think it’ll be a smashing idea to use your knowledge of his culture and send back a Japanese-style drawing of him.
Britain: Do you think he would like that?! If I got anything wrong, I would feel terribly embarrassed. But I suppose I could give it a try.
{Caption: Draw, draw, draw, draw…}
Britain: Uh-huh, uh-huh. Hey, chum, you’ve seen that hakama thing Japan wears as bottoms, right? Are those trousers, you think?
Wales: It looks more like a skirt to me.
{Caption: Draw, draw, draw, draw…}
Britain: And I know he said they layer their kimonos collars in a certain way…
Wales: I think it’s right over left for men and women are the other way around.
(Britain: Eh-hm, Eh-hm, hm, hm, hm)
Narrator: Nope! Right over left is only for dead people.
Britain: There! All done with Japan! Now, to fill in the background.
Wales: Here’s a picture of some Chinese scenery.
Britain: Eh-hm, eh-hm, hmhmhmhmhm…
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japan: We have finally deepened our understanding of each other.
{Text on card #1: Fortune}
{Text on card #2: JAPAN}
Japan: But not by much.
Britain: P.S. I didn’t forget to include a ninja; he’s just ninja-hiding somewhere in the trees!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
{Caption: December 31}
Italy: Oh, Germany! I brought a gift to say thank you for being nice to me again this year!
Germany: A surprise present from you on December 31st? Ja, I know what this is going to be.
(Ja: Yes → German)
Italy: Of course you do! ‘Cause nothing says friendship quite like a brand new pair of Santa panties! In Italy, it says that ringing in the new year with a pair of red underwear will bring you good fortune and lots of happiness! Yay!
Germany: Well…there’s actually an ongoing study about how different colors may affect one’s mood and outlook.
Italy: Ve! Come on, I know they’re here somewhere! Auah!
Germany: Ehm…
Italy: Uh, don’t you worry, I’ll be cool; I can fix this. Just turn around for a moment, okay?
Germany: I don’t want the underwear you are wearing!
{Caption #1: Underwear}
Italy: And here to you for supporting Hetalia! Happy New Year!
{Caption #2: Happy New Year!!}
Germany: Don’t sign off naked!

Mexico Race-Week Rundown
This week F1 is at one of the more unique tracks on the calendar for the 2021 Mexico City Grand Prix, the race has been held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, in its current form since 2015, when it was updated by Hermann Tilke.
Tumblr media
Overview
This track will always be an interesting one for me as it is hard to neatly categorise, the most important thing here is the size of the turbocharger (one of the engine components), most engine manufacturers try to make the turbocharger as small as possible in order to save space and weight, but due to the altitude of the Mexican GP track a bigger turbocharger is actually preferred.
Air density at sea level is around 1.225kg/m3 but at the Mexican GP circuit its closer to 0.96kg/m3 so the air is significantly less dense, this means that cars can overheat much easier and they also struggle to produce downforce for the corners, which makes mechanical grip all the more important.
It’s actually a relatively short track, only 4.304km, meaning that there will be over 70 racing laps with only 45% of each lap being at full throttle. However that is not to say that this race will be easy on the engines, the temperatures still look to be quite high for the weekend and it will definitely be a struggle for those with older engine components.
It’s a good track for overtaking, especially with the 1.2km straight however it is still narrow at points and cars will be running maximum downforce, so dirty air will still be at play.
Sectors 2 and 3 are very tricky and technical and require the car to have a lot of mechanical grip but they also require a driver who is in tune with the car and knows how to extract the maximum performance.
Corners to Look Out For
Tumblr media
All of the corners at this circuit are really interesting, but a lot of them are made to be corner complexes rather than individual corners. This means that because of how the corners flow into each other it can be difficult to pick out specific corners.
Turns 1-3: These come just after a long straight and are a relatively hard braking zone, which increases the possibility of an overtake, especially on the first lap.
Turns 4-6: This series of corners are quite complicated and technical for the driver to navigate especially when battling
Who’s at an Advantage?
This is the track that has been labelled as the Red Bull track since the start of the season. They typically perform well in warmer conditions and in higher altitudes and Mexico fits the bill on both of these.
Out of McLaren and Ferrari I believe that it’ll be more suited to Ferrari as they have performed really well at tracks like Monaco and Hungary, which are weirdly similar in characteristics. However both McLaren and Ferrari performed well in Austria which also shares some similarities. What will be interesting is how Ferrari’s engine upgrade behaves here as I believe their Turbocharger is smaller now, which could put them at a disadvantage.
In the lower midfield my money is on Alpha Tauri, the Red Bull and the Honda engine should be strong, and the Alpha Tauri shares a lot of characteristics with the sister car.
I also think that Alfa Romeo might be strongest of the backmarkers, it's a bit of a wildcard guess, but I think Williams are going to possibly struggle with reliability.
My Predictions
New engines, Mexico is possibly one of the last places that teams can take a new engine and actually get use out of it, I think it’ll be Lance Stroll and Esteban Ocon. Then depending on qualifying I think that Lewis Hamilton may take some new components or Lando Norris will take a complete new engine.
I also think that the automatic lap deletions (if there's a double yellow) are going to screw someone over.
It’s also a bit of a left field prediction but I think at least one Mercedes is going to be outqualified by a midfield car.
Strategy
Pirelli are bringing the C2-C4 tyres again and that likely means it’ll be a simple one stop race, not much time is lost in the pits here, so a two stop could be on the cards but the tyre degradation and wear are pretty low as the tyres aren’t under any real stresses.

If you're still accepting directors cut asks?
Yup!
So I guess I'll talk about Mars at Rest.
When preparing to write this PrUK story, I pretty much immersed myself in Napoleonic history for weeks. Everything I looked at was somehow related to Mr. Bonaparte in some way, from memes to movies, and that's how I found the 1970 film Waterloo, which is just fantastic. I'm a visual learner, but there weren't any photographs in 1815, so it was hard to get an idea of what the Battle of Waterloo REALLY looked like. Paintings were made, sure, but they were made with artistic intention, and I really wanted something more accurate. Finding that Waterloo film was a godsend, because the accuracy in it is phenomenal; it's been praised by historians. Check it out, if you can!
I could go further into all the research I did, but I don't wanna bore anyone, so I'll talk a bit about Prussia's characterization.
He's such an interesting guy. In the early Hetalia strips Prussia comes across as this cocksure scoundrel with not too many redeeming qualities, haha. But as time went on, Hima fleshed out his personality and made him more well-rounded. If you go back and look at older Hetalia fanfics from 2011, you can see this BIG difference in how fans have interpreted his personality over the years. Now it's more common I think to emphasize his intellect and how kind he can be towards his family. (Maybe that's just me though, haha.)
So, it was a challenge figuring out how he'd interact with England. Most fics have him talking with Germany, Austria, Hungary, etc. There's also a massive fan-focus on his death, which is totally understandable, but you know, it makes it hard when you're trying to figure out how to write Prussia in 1815, long before his demise. Before he even meets Germany!
I was worried for a long while that I might fumble his character. But I tried to focus on the main facts. He's smart, he enjoys engineering, he writes journals, he's confident, he comes from a disciplined background, he's laid-back in social settings, he's not afraid of getting drunk, and he admires Old Fritz. That's the base I started from when writing Prussia. And once I knew how he behaved, it was easier to imagine how England might react to him.
Thanks for the ask!! ❤

It's hard to talk about Nyotalia Hungary and Nyotalia Prussia without mentioning Nyotalia Austria... What would be her role if she had one?
Maybe I could imagine her as some of Jul' strict teachers or nannies or lady of company (no idea of the correct term).
What do you think?
Also... Also.... Nyotalia Germania as the QUEEN!!!! Just imagining it is already enough ❤️
Hmm… I can imagine Anneliese (nyo austria) to be some kind of lady in waiting who is only there to upgrade her status in the court— otherwise she finds Julchen just as tiring as Daniel does. But she can’t help but be slightly amused by Julchen’s antics, they are something of note within an otherwise boring daily schedule.
That being said, I can imagine Daniel and Annaliese taking an immediate liking to each other, much to Julchen’s dismay— she can’t have her knight and lady in waiting falling in love!! Especially since this would be a major blow to Jules, as she and Annaliese have been friendly rivals since they were kiddies. The princess makes sure to insert herself between the pair whenever she sees them talking. This leads to a rather unlikely throuple friendship full of all your normal PruHunAus antics and bickering.
Queen Germania huh? I kinda like the sound of that. But I also love a canon Germania being a tired, well-worn father who just wants his daughter to behave.
That being said, nyo!Germany (Monika) is definitely Julchen’s baby sister who she is #obsessed with. Carrying her around like she’s a little doll and playing make believe games where she’s a mighty dragon and Daniel “saves” Monika. Monika develops a cute little crush on Daniel as a result. I mean, who doesn’t love a dashing knight in shining armor who saves you from your weird, scary sister?

Asystole
Ships: AusHun
Characters: Hungary, Austria; mentioned Prussia
Summary: His empire failing, Austria is desperate enough to make anything work. His empire failing, Hungary is desperate enough to finally break free. One of them must give.
Vienna, 1867.
Erzsébet padded across the hallway, spine stiff and shoulders rolled back. A minute before, some poor servant had been tasked to play the messenger, urging her to head to the office straightaway. Ordinarily, this sort of urgency would’ve shocked her; today, it was expected. All people talked, from the lowliest maid to the richest of emperors, and word of their machinations never seemed to escape her. Plus – if she allowed herself a moment of honesty, instead of falsely praising her cunning – her politicians had told her everything. There truly were no surprises.
Her first sight upon entering was that of Austria, scowling down at whatever papers were before him. She wondered when she had last seen him smile – and not the fake one he flashed at diplomats and hangers’ on, but the real one. It couldn’t have been years, could it? It seemed true enough, but for his sake she hoped she was wrong.
“Are you intending to get your face frozen like that or do you just enjoy tempting fate?” Hungary slid into her seat as she spoke. Her voice lilted up in a way that would sound like gentle teasing to the untrained ear.
Fortunately, his was trained perfectly to her pitch. He rolled his eyes and leaned back in his chair, looking as if he was in no mood to be messed with. He’d been looking like that a lot recently. It disappointed her, only because it put a damper on her fun. There was little joy in kicking a dog while it was down, even one prone to biting.
“Would you prefer I pretend to sit here, giddy about all my misfortunes? If you wanted that, you should’ve convinced your boyfriend his time and resources would’ve been better off warring with a different enemy of the hour.” Austria attempted to keep his tone dispassionate, though it didn’t work. Try as he might, it never did.
She sniffed, scrunching up her nose. “Do you have to call him my ‘boyfriend?’ That sounds so…juvenile.” It was a minor thing to pick a fight over, but she certainly wasn’t going to over whether Prussia’s war had been legitimate. There was no need when they both agreed.
“I feel I have to because, if I didn’t and forgot my restraint, I’d be tempted to call him something awful like your little bitch, but I would never. I’m above that.” Austria smiled, all teeth and hostility, and Hungary wondered how nice they would look knocked out on the floor.
She flicked her wrist dismissively. No reason to get herself worked up over something so petty. There was business to discuss and deals to be made. She leaned her weight onto the arm of her chair. “Can you just tell me what you want? You know how it is, so many rebellions to plan and so little time.”
A quirk of an eyebrow was enough to show his displeasure. “Not like you to play the fool. There’s no reason for you to pretend to be so unaware.”
“If I didn’t pretend, you might get curious on my methods. If I reveal my hand, there goes whatever illusory personal freedoms I have. You want me even more miserable than I am?” His silence was the answer she wanted. She smiled, resting her cheek on her hand. “So, tell me. What does Hofburg have in store for me?”
“You’ll be thrilled to know that for a change, it’s an offer instead of an edict. I don’t see any point in attempting to sweeten reality to you – you live here and you’re not an idiot, after all. The empire, my empire, is in an increasingly bleak situation. You would think this would endear me into the hearts of all my subjects, but I suppose I underestimated how deep nationalism’s poison infected their bloodstreams,” Austria rolled his eyes at his own foolishness. “Yours being the most infected – and, as you love to remind me – being the most likely to one day succeed, a deal needs to be made to quell their bloodlust.”
That certainly was one way to put it. Hungary couldn’t stop herself from laughing, unable to look at Austria’s overly serious expression or risk breaking into hysterics. Taking a deep breath, she composed herself, though still with a noticeable smirk. “Bloodlust? Really, Roderich? They want independence, not the death of every Austrian. Who has the time for that kind of petty revenge?”
He scoffed, clearly insulted. “As if they’d be capable of that. If I had to sacrifice a few peasants here and there to keep them peaceful, I wouldn’t bat an eye. My kingdom for a commoner is a trifle. No, the blood they want is mine. They want to see what I’ve built up over the centuries diminished in months, in days. I’ve jumped into wars for less, you know as much. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’d fare well if an army were sent in and the backlash for such a heavy-handed move doesn’t make it worth the trouble.” He shook his head, clearing his mind of useless plans.
Hungary pitied him. Look how desperate he was to hold onto something so ephemeral, so meaningless. Empires came and went like the seasons. Here was a man who thought himself wise, yet he couldn’t grasp such a basic tenet of their existence. She had learnt it; so had Poland and Lithuania and every other plaything these so-called ‘powers’ sought. It was a lunacy, one that infected all of them the same. Now his was crumbling all around him and instead of attempting to move on, he would drag out the process. It was predictable and entirely disappointing. Despite having no reason to, she expected better of him.
She sighed and turned her gaze away from him. If she stared at him any longer, she’d feel nauseous. “What do you want from me?”
Relieved to be back on track, Austria’s body became less rigid. “Nothing, really. My offer is quite favorable to you. Our marriage, partnership, whatever descriptor you prefer becomes one of equals. Complete control of your lands returns to you. You’ll have the privilege or the torture to pore over the minutiae of whatever half-formed, barely coherent policy is cooked up by your own hacks in Budapest. Christ, am I normally this cynical?” He shook off the self-awareness. That could be dealt with later or, preferably, never. “Really, everything you’ve ever harassed me and all my various rulers about is now yours. You lose nothing in this arrangement.”
“Everything, bar the most important thing. Just because it’s been roughly twenty years hasn’t changed what the people want. You’re not giving me anything you view as important. Ruling my people has become an inconvenience, so you’ll hand it off to me. Ten years ago, you would’ve been insulted at the prospect. And now the insulted party will be us.” She sighed, shaking her head. “Why is conceding so difficult for your lot to do? Clinging onto everything will only make the inevitable that much harder.”
His eyes narrowed as he stared her down. “Nothing is inevitable. We’re in a difficult spot, but we’ve been through those before. As long as I bide my time and there’s no more incidents, everything will be back on track and no one will make anymore of their bitchy little comments.” The way he sneered as he said that last part, she was willing to bet that bothered him more than anything else. He tried smiling at her, though it didn’t reach his eyes. “I’ve conceded a lot to you with this. Fine, you’re not quite independent, but it’s just as good. In some ways, I’m doing you a favor. Foreign policy is such a nuisance. All of them are sharks, all of them would be circling you, sniffing out fresh blood. Europe isn’t how you remember it.”
Hungary grinded her teeth together. Patronizing, always patronizing. Even desperate for her assistance, he couldn’t view her as a peer. And then he wondered why she behaved the way she did? Why, sometimes, she can’t even stand to be near him? He was dumber than he had any right to be.
“Do you think I’ve been completely isolated from the world? I know how they all act, how they all think. The only ones I’d have to worry about fighting off would be you and Russia, and without me, what army do you have?” She smiled, enjoying how that blow landed. How could he argue against it? He’d said as much to her – sometimes with pride, sometimes with fear – many times throughout the years. “And believe me, I would love to strike out on my own and form my own alliances. I can think of a few who’d be more than happy to spurn you with a treaty or two.”
He folded his arms over his chest, staring at her with derision. “Insulting me won’t get you what you want, Liebchen.” He practically snarled out the nickname. Pet names had always been their favorite weapons. “This is the only deal you have. I don’t get all your bitching either. We negotiated with two of your most darling heroes. There’s no need for you to be putting up this much of a fight. Will you ever be satisfied with anything I do for you, or should I learn to accept your eternal disdain?”
She took shaky breaths through her nose. That was hardly enough to constrain her. “Perhaps I’d be more accepting of the terms if you’d bother to invite me to negotiations! I appreciate,” she roared the word out, her fury overtaking her, “that you were oh-so-fucking considerate enough to know who I would’ve chosen to be my representative. And here I thought you only paid attention to my lands to slaughter innocents! But you have never, will never, respect me enough to listen to me on what my own goddamn people want! Deák and Andrássy are good men, but they know nothing compared to me! How many times must I scream this at you until you get it? If I’m not allowed to have any free will in this life, then so be it! That’s my curse, but at least let me speak on their behalf! Give me the chance, the fucking chance, to win them the freedoms it appears I’ll never have!”
She only realized she was leaning over his desk when she was done. Her rage, built up over the centuries, was causing her to tremble. Staring into Roderich’s eyes, she swore she could kill him. She swore she could and it would be the last time, the most permanent of his deaths. It was so vivid in her mind that, for a moment, she believed it to be reality.
What brought her back to the present was how utterly bored he appeared at her antics. Here was the same song and dance they performed for each other. Here it was, meant to play out for eternity. Why would he fear her? What could she do to him that was permanent? Nothing. The one thing she could, he locked it away in some deal she wasn’t allowed to be apart of.
“Don’t you ever get tired of carrying on like that? So sanctimonious. As if your cause is the most just. Do you have any idea how exhausting it is to be bound to you?” He shook his head. “I’m convinced that if you ever tried to shut up, it would kill you. Though, honestly, I’d be grateful for the silence.” As she sat down, he smiled with an unrivaled arrogance. “There. Now, please, Erzsébet, try to be reasonable for a change. There’s no use in becoming so hysterical over this. Everything doesn’t have to be such a battle. Fighting like this, you haven’t taken a break in centuries. Aren’t you tired?”
She would not be baited. She refused to tell him what he wanted to hear, refused even if it were partially true. “The only thing I’m tired of is being brushed aside, but I know not to expect change from you.” She looked outside the window and sighed. “The ink is already dried, isn’t it? I can’t stop what’s been put in motion.”
“For the most part. All it needs is ratification. Though, we’ve been assured that that won’t be an issue.” Once more, he relaxed against the back of his chair. His relief was clear across his face. “I’m glad you’ve calmed yourself of those delusions. While I can commend your…dedication, you’ll have much more important things to busy yourself with.”
Hungary smiled, pleased with his false sense of security. “You’re right, there will be. I understand that, at this point, I can’t prevent anything. But, when news travels around, most will not be happy. This flies in the face of everything they’ve worked so hard to achieve over these last few years. They’ve been sold out, and I’m inclined to believe them.” She licked her lips, savoring the moment. “So, when the people take to the streets, when they demand what they know is owed to them, I won’t try to smooth things over. Never again. I will be right beside them, doing whatever I can to rile them up. Whatever they choose to do, however they decide to handle this, I will support them with every fiber of my being. And if that creates problems for you?” She stood up, smirking and curtseying. “Solve them yourself. I’m no propaganda piece.”
Head held high, she began striving out of the room. It was the only card she had left, the only thing she could think of. With every step she took, she prayed he’d be as weak as she knew he was. He had said it himself, there was nothing he could do to fight anything. Today did not come about out of a position of strength for him.
“Wait, Erzsébet! Please, don’t do this.” She heard him rise, heard the soft steps of his feet. “If you do that, neither of us will walk away from this looking good.” A soft intake of breath from him. “For once, I’m not too proud to admit that I need you. But, please, don’t throw it all away over nothing.” His voice was gentle, as if he were pleading with a lioness and not a woman.
When he reached out, she allowed him to touch her and spin her around. When had his hands last been that soft? Cornered, he was like a new man. “All you have to offer me is insults. What should I stay around for? I have more to gain away from you than besides you. I always have.”
“I know, dammit I know!” She watched his Adam’s apple shift as he swallowed. Roderich’s eyes were wide, all too aware that he was on the precipice. “Not now, though. You’re right, you’re my equal. I’ll give you whatever I can, within reason, to prevent that. Anything to prevent you from ruining me.”
The urge to scowl at his self-preservation was there. What else should she have expected? He was still Roderich; nothing could change the core of a man. Still, this was further than she’d ever gotten before. “You know me well enough to know what I want.”
“I assumed I did when making the last deal and look where it got me. Forgive me for wanting you to spell it out.” The beginning of a smile appeared on his face.
Erzsébet didn’t know whether to laugh or sigh. Feeling off-kilter, she settled for sitting on the sofa. “Not even you could mess this one up. I’m tired of sneaking around your back to leave the home. I’m not a young girl and you’re certainly not my father and you will stop treating me as such. If it’s that important to you, there’s only three places I’d be anyway, and you know them all. More importantly, start treating me like a person! You want your life to be less miserable? Then do yourself a favor and at least treat me with indifference, I’d rather that than constant disgust.” Her eyes met his and held them, challenging him to deny her. “And, whenever some big decision comes up, you better discuss it with me and actually give some consideration to my thoughts. You’re not any smarter than me and I’m as aware on everything as you are. If this is going to be both our futures, for whatever time you just bought yourself, then I’m not going to do anything to sabotage it.”
“That’s the very least of what I can do.” If she hadn’t known better, she would’ve thought she a flash of shame in his eyes. It couldn’t have been. She doubted that he could feel such things, so high were the walls he’d built.
She studied him skeptically. That had been far too easy. There must’ve been something he’d want in return. He couldn’t just have thought what he’d taken was enough. “Don’t you have anything you want from me? There’s no terms?”
Roderich paused, deciding his best course of action. He shrugged, apparently not finding any trap in her words. “Two. The first: cut off the affair. It can be anyone else, but not him. On a personal level, this will make me look like an even bigger cuckold than we all know I am.”
Erzsébet’s eyes hardened and she leaned away from him. “No, that’s out of the question.”
He frowned when she offered no further explanation. “Really? You could do so much better. Don’t tell me you actually love him.”
“You have no right to my personal life.”
“Right. I thought that was the case.” She couldn’t quite distinguish the exact emotions in his voice beyond disappointment and resignation. There was a layer to it that wasn’t simple to place.
He snapped her out of her thoughts when he spoke again. “Now, the emperor wants this sealed with some sort of formal wedding between us. I begged him to do anything but this. Unfortunately for the both of us, he thought it would make such a lovely story for the masses.” He gave an embarrassed smile. “I’m also not exactly asking for you to do this, since there became a gentleman’s agreement on it, but something that means much more to me.” He grew serious again at whiplashing speed. “Let me break the news to Gilbert. Give me the satisfaction.”
Erzsébet could imagine how it’d go. How the scene played out in her mind, it was horrid. Her stomach wrenched. “You’d wreck him.”
“That’s the point,” Roderich wore a cruel smile. He’d been imagining it as well.
“Why do you think I’d ever let you do that?”
He shrugged in an effort to appear nonchalant and failed. “Simple, really. If you tell him yourself, do you think he’ll believe you can’t just stop it? God, he’ll have every moronic scheme to prevent it and act all wounded when you tell him it can’t. I wouldn’t be surprised if he thought he were just your little plaything all along. Even though I have ‘no right to your personal life,’ as you so kindly put it, I’m no fool. What’s the point in risking it and being stuck with me?” He smiled at her, warm in a way she was unfamiliar with. His tone attempted to strike a friendliness that didn’t fit him. “If I do it, he hates me, comes sobbing to you about it, and you can both continue to curse my very existence. The status quo is maintained. It’s an obvious choice to me.”
She wandered if he’d prepared that speech just for now. It was tempting to ask him, but the knowing would be worse. Ignorance could, indeed, be a bliss. Erzsébet knew there was an ulterior motive for his words, there always was with him. He wasn’t Feliks, who she wouldn’t feel such guilt over listening to. Still, there was a human part of her that needed outside validation regardless of the source. “Do you think I’m a coward?” Her voice was so soft, she wondered if he’d even heard her.
“No, because I can understand it. Sometimes it’s braver to manipulate.” There was an understanding in his voice. She wouldn’t be surprised if this were coming from experience.
“Fine, but don’t be crueler than you have to. Try to have some compassion if you can.” There was a feeling of hollowness Erzsébet forced herself to ignore. Her life would be livable, that was what was most important. No one would have done it differently.
“He’ll get what he deserves,” Roderich bit back his irritation. They both knew who it was really for. Instead, he nodded his head and offered her his arm. “I’m sure you don’t want to spend the rest of the day watching me work. Allow me to walk you to the door.”
She politely took his arm. They walked in silence to the door, too busy was her mind for idle chatter. Anyways, hadn’t they said enough? Only on her way out did she smile at him and offer him her thanks.
He smiled at her. “Thank you. I promise I’ll make this worthwhile.”

More Aushun writing ideas, because I’m stuck on this concept:
- Hungary having sharp, militant wit and grit. Girl can comment on a situation with that dry, brazen, borderline vulgar humor and confidence of a seasoned general because how else do you cope in the absurdity of war and politics for hundreds of years?
- Austria, while expressing initial disdain for her quips because he’s a #gentleman and doesn’t want brute talk in the house, secretly admires her kind of wit. While it differs from his and clearly is more suited to be used among soldiers rather than in a ballroom, the way she delivers it is so subversive and intelligent and he is of course absolutely not charmed or turned on by that or her militant swagger at all
- Depending on the situation (because she’s not dumb enough to be reckless and get herself into unneccessary trouble), Hungary could give two shits of what anyone thinks about this wit, but she specifically reserves it for getting on with other soldiers or for poking fun at the hoity toity people who pearlclutch and guffaw at her for it and for “behaving savagely” (I.e. guess who?)

quickly done fave heta ship list:
prussia x everybody (tl;dr)
germany x everybody
just kidding. here:
prussia x hungary: OTP <3... one of my first ships, potential childhood friends to lovers (or not), could be one-sided :D, femdom, etc. they are bickering constantly even this day in canon lol, i love them both so much. also i never have a solified hc for erszi, i like thinking her as gnc, queer, both... does any of this mean i think they can work? lol, lmao (maybe). better luck in human aus...! well tbh this is how i interpret all nationverse ships, woops. bound to eventual tragedies, everything is temporary, unable to achieve something akin to normality--not knowing what is like either, ever. not like them can not give it a try while it last! they can always start over again!
prussia x austria: their personalities clash 👍. i am a bit picky about them tho, more than with other ships (their personalities clash 👎)... i like when people make rode dominant 😍. an enemies to lovers ship, it can have similar vibes to other similar heta ships, with their own twist from their own oppositive dispositions.
[btw, imo it was obvious from the beginning that they could be somewhat related, in heta terms/logic--as the common hc goes, i think they choose the familiar titles to be less alone in this world, instead of necessarely being blood related--now that hima called 'em cousins, that kind of makes the ship more fun to me lol, as nowadays it makes the ship ""incorrect"" and i am a contrarian piece of shit. in any case, it doesn't fucking matter, this is an old af ship and they're not real.]
frying pangle! my OT3, and my actual favorite form of the ships above (pruaus and pruhun basically always become frying pangle in my hands), while aushun it's cute--just add all 3 ships here. same dynamics as above x3 (+ as doomed), with the addition of erzsi and gil both being crazy for rod, so they gotta learn to share, making rod the biggest winner--headaches aside. #🍳
prussia x poland (and viceversa): ...ship order depends of time period! sub gil endgame. i always liked this ship but i didn't see any fanart in the past (so now we are talking). "i hate you... come back to me!" whole thing ;o;
honorable mention of pruliet/lietpru: personally (or how i'd work around it), i like it as gil developing some feelings that will never ever be corresponded :))), that's what he gets after making liet hate him. despite of that i love what the fandom do with both!
talking about these three, liet having to learn to tolerate prussia (enough) and developing feelings in a lietpolpru scenario... love that. aka lietpol+polpru in one, pol must be there lol.
prussia x russia: can't work; looks damn well. i like russia having a crush on prussia who, no matter what, can't quite like him back (at least that's how gil will act!), even if they get to friendly terms and are both menacing together (important point; but i also think that's always short lived). ivan unable to have normal relations in equal terms, something that plagues any of his relationships... otoh, prussia/russia (that order) it's great 👀, i love vanya!!! 💕. toxic :3! toxic overall, but i prefer gilbert *not* completely crushed down, if you know what i mean. tagged mainly with the japanese side of the fandom tag (ユキウサギ), translated--could switch to the romaji (yukiusagi)
germany x prussia: in that order! one-sided! most of the time i prefer them just as bros (germany&prussia), except when i like to entertain the idea of germany being a little tiny bit weird about his big bro :), big bro who behaves as a proud mom which can be off-putting to humans who know them (expect them to act like maNnly siblings in their twenties so they are ??????). of course i don't mind shippers that play with them the other way around--it just makes me a bit uncomfortable (do what makes you happy: you're doing great!!). germancest it's hetalia's thorki (also i prefer them as just siblings lmao). tldr psychodrama potencial, when the story needs to be unsettling...
...and more ships! like btt poly (friends with benefits?) or all kinds of combinations with the 3! he/him dyke bi gil that's a top leaning switch cuz reasons, more sub than dom i wouldn't trust him as a dom lmao. him being a voluntary celibate does sounds fun--in or not the ace spectrum--but more interesting imo as ace or not ace yet very peculiar and kinky around sex... anyway: am a multishipper and can be convinced about p much anything (just be fun! these bitches are insane).
now for lud:
germany x italy (and reversed): just a classic. make feli a bit less hetare and more a little manipulative selfish little shit :)--his venetian merchant side, if you want. also remember that lud can also be dumb as hell... (is the "north european hardworkers; south europeans lazy" thing that makes me raise an eyebrow). anyway, make italy a kind AND hedonist person, 100% in love with lud (and him 100% in love with feli), but sadly finding their life styles at times clash too much. make feli a dom, whether he tops or bottoms 4 his big boyfriend. lud being tall doesn't mean he has to top or dom lol (same for ivan!! and sve!!). preferences aside, i love anything with gerita ;w;
germany x france (in any order): eu bros, both can learn a bit from each other (like somebody being more rebel lmao). enemies to lovers mandated from the state... for both surprise, it works! besides, both have a romantic side, as much as lud tries to pretend he doesn't lol. i don't see them being monogamous, which is a plus not a negative. an option when italy and england are too busy, or they are in bad terms w them etc... this does hurt both a bit: ainsi va la vie of their kin, better work around that than against it... (also add "i really really really wanted you dead" from fran @ ger lmao)... + frapru redux.
germany x russia (in that order): i never think too hard about this one. mmm, let ivan be pampered here? lud its a caring person (perhaps overcompensating for this case tho...). this ship doesn't seems (way too) imbalanced either, compared to other russia ships, without being rusame that has fruk vibes and vice versa (hope that makes sense lmaooo). its literally 2 tough guys that have a soft side.
america x germany (in that order): could be a thing... fuck buddies? can't see them as lovers... can't see america as anybody lover.
(germany as a drummer in england's band.)
when i joined the fandom i loved the gerbel fanart 🥺. can be a one night stand for bisexual homoromantic lud. maybe after a bet with monaco? lol. bel: "i kissed him in the mouth [big step in germany! similar to american soldiers in uk] and i slept with him? uhh...???? i lose a bet :("; germany: *doesn't show it but horny dude stuck in his early twenties*
...plus again any ships. i might not think about them as much as the ones listed, but i still appreciate almost anything that involves faves.
extra:
rusame/amerus; fruk/ukfr: rivals! enemies! "i hate/love you, you're the only person who understands/compliments me"
rochu! a classic. add rusamechu / black triangle to make this more unhinged.
like romechu, and i need to get into indchu (and perchu)
loving nedpan lately. japan ships: asakiku, itapan, turkpan, giripan
robul! whatever hima does with them it's cute (and funny) af.
lietpol (married and divorced but still technically together???). more liet ships: lietbela + rusliet.
(amebela)
usuk IF committed to be a freaky ship (in other/more ways other than incest... tho what i dislike its cutesy incest, compared to in dark fiction). otherwise, boring 😴. often great AUs btw... guess my actual issue with the ship is overexposure from ye olde days.
spaus, spabel (cat!spain in that event 😭), spamano or romaspa more exactly (man people really hate this one too... mentee/mentor, anyone?)
cucan... i wish there was more latam charas but do i trust hima?
...dennor and sufin, i guess??
i don't know what else right now. too many characters (and too many blondes)
i don't feel thaaat super into BL to use fujin for myself (it's literally only hetalia)... that being said, yeah, look all of this. if this comes out(?) as a complete surprise, you didn't read my about *shrug*

I found out I self sabotage my relationship because of low self esteem I let a really good guy go and realize I’m a fuck up but I don’t think I will get better and feel suicidal because I keep hurting others what the point of my existence
Hi my lovely,
 I’m really sorry to hear that you feel like this. I want to assure you that your existence does have a purpose. You are NOT a bad person; in this short ask, you show compassion for others and a desire to change your behavior, both of which are wonderful things.
At the end of this reply, I will attach a list of numbers to call if you are feeling suicidal. Or please PM me (@vivaldiisanaphrodisiac). The world would be a worse place without you. I would recommend seeing a mental health professional, if possible. I understand that currently face-to-face appointments might be difficult due to Covid-19, but I know that some therapists offer Skype sessions.
Here are my two cents: The first step to correcting any behavior is to acknowledge it. You’ve already done this, and identified low self-esteem as the reason for how you behaved in your relationship. I can definitely relate to this; whenever I felt inadequate compared to my boyfriend’s exes, I would shut him out as a defense mechanism, but this would always lead to me feeling very guilty later on. To combat this, I concentrate on enriching myself for myself, doing things independently of him that I enjoy; reading, making bread, creative writing, watching true crime, etc. This reminds me that I, and my life as an individual, have value and meaning (even if that meaning is found through consuming as much milk bread as possible) and in turn, this makes me feel less insecure.
 What has happened has happened, and punishing yourself for this continuously will not change this. Instead, be mindful in your future relationships; be open about your insecurities and the behaviors it causes so you and your partner can work through them together.
 Best wishes and big hugs,
🍰

Hungarian GP Rounds Off First Triple Header
Sunday sees the 35th edition of the Hungarian Grand Prix which normally signals the start of the summer break. But this year, just one week on and it will be time for another triple header in this unusual season, with two races in the UK followed by one in Spain. The Hungarian Grand Prix has always been held at the Hungaroring, on the outskirts of Budapest. The track has undergone a few modifications and Scuderia Ferrari has won here seven times, the first courtesy of Nigel Mansell in 1989, when the Englishman came back from 12th on the grid, overtaking Ayrton Senna when the Brazilian hesitated before lapping Stefan Johansson in the Onyx.
Behind the Iron Curtain. The race first appeared on the calendar in 1986 when the idea of holding a race behind the iron curtain while the cold war was still real, caused quite a stir, especially in the wake of the boycott and counter-boycott of the 1980 Moscow Olympics and those in Los Angeles in 1984. But the gamble paid off and its been a fixture on the calendar ever since.
The circuit. The track isn’t used much and its rural setting means it’s usually pretty dirty on Friday. The Hungaroring is 4.381 kilometres long and has 14 corners, 8 right and 6 left. The start-finish line is on the longest straight which provides overtaking opportunities into turn 1, a downhill right hander. After a few hundred metres, turn 2 is also downhill, but to the left and leads immediately into turn 3, again downhill. Next is another fast section, climbing up to turn 4 to the left. Then it gets twisty, with a slow chicane and two final hairpins, turn 13 to the left and a final right hander onto the straight.
Redemption. After Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel collided at Turn 3 on the opening lap of the Styrian Grand Prix, both are keen to get back on track to put it all behind them and work on improving the performance of the SF1000.
Mattia Binotto - Team Principal
“Hungary brings the curtain down on the first triple-header in this very compressed season. The Hungaroring is a very different track to Spielberg in Austria, which hosted the first two races. It will be interesting therefore to see how the cars behave on a track that requires maximum aerodynamic downforce. Given that overtaking in Hungary, unlike Austria, is usually a rare occurrence, it means that tire management over a single lap and being well prepared for qualifying will be of vital importance. We know that the performance level of our car has not matched our expectations, nor that of our fans, but we are working flat out on every area to improve as quickly as possible. Our aim this weekend is simple and straightforward: to score as many points as possible. To do that, we must work perfectly in every area, from the drivers, to car preparation to how we operate on track, to reliability.”
Sebastian Vettel #5
“After the poor showing last weekend in Spielberg it’s good that I can get straight back on track. The Hungaroring is quite a physically demanding circuit for the driver, because with hardly any straights. In fact there are so many corners and usually, the Grand Prix is held at a very hot time of year. It’s also a track that attracts a lot of Ferrari fans and supporters from Germany too, so it will be very strange racing without seeing them cheering in the grandstands.”
Charles Leclerc #16
“I’m really looking forward to being back in the car. I like the Hungaroring, which is a very technical circuit, featuring several tricky areas where you pay for the slightest mistake with lap time. That’s why, especially in qualifying, you have to put together the perfect lap. Budapest is one of my favorite stops on the calendar, because the city is so beautiful and we usually meet lots of enthusiastic fans there. It will be a bit different this time and we will do our best to put on a good show for them.”

Hetalia: World Stars Episode #3: Czecho to Slovakia: Zenpen Transcript
This episode has the first part of the Czechia and Slovakia arc.
Narrator: With the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918, following World War One, Czech and Slovakia got a sweet new living arrangement.
France: They say they want independence, so I say let us give it to them, non?
(Non?: No? → French)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Czechia: Finally, we got independence we have been wanting for years, Slovakia! Hahaha!
(Slovakia: Hahaha! Ahahaha! Ahahaha!)
Slovakia: Yes, Czech; at last we’re free to live our own lives!
(Czechia: Hahahaha! Hehe!)
Slovakia: Big brother Austria and big sister Hungary cannot tell us what to do anymore. From now on, we will live as we choose and nobody else can stop us!
{Caption: Czecho-Slovakia}
Slovakia: Today is the day we will begin our new lives as Czecho-Slovakia! And we do it together, right, Czech?
Czechia: Right, Slovakia. Independence was never the finish line. We are only starting!
{Text on sign: Global Community}
{Caption: Czechoslovakia}
Czechia: And I will register our name as “Czechoslovakia”.
Slovakia: Do not write it like that; it needs a hyphen!
{Caption: Czech --- She’s a hard worker and tries to do things carefully, but Slovakia always behaves unexpectedly. She’s got a delicate, unique sense of art!}
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slovakia: There has to be a hyphen in the name!
(Czechia: Auhuh…)
Slovakia: Czecho hyphen Slovakia! You cannot leave the hyphen out!
Czechia: You pronounce it the same either way, so what difference does it make?
Slovakia: When we are Czecho hyphen Slovakia…
Czechia: Auhuh…
{Caption: Czecho-Slovakia}
Slovakia: …we can stand as equals.
Czechia: I guess I can understand what you’re saying.
{Caption: Czechoslovakia}
Slovakia: But when we are Czechoslovakia, it comes off like you’re dominant in the relationship!
(Czech: Ahum! Ahum! Ahum! Ahum!)
Czechia: What are you talking about?! Don’t make it weird!
(Slovakia: Hm, hm, hm!)
Slovakia: Not having the hyphen makes it weird for me!
Czechia: Aah-euh!
Slovakia: Put it back or I’ll whine and sulk and act out in an antisocial manner!
(Czechia: Aah-euh! Aah-euh! Aah-euh! Aah-euh!)
Czechia: Well, I’m not going to give you what you want if you keep being a brat!
(Slovakia: Huhn! Ee! Huh! Hm! Hm!)
Bulgaria: Big dom energy on Czech, am I right?
(Czechia: Mm, mm! Aah, woah aah!)
{Caption: Slovakia --- Same as Czech, but is more laid back than her and gentle in many ways. He normally doesn’t assert himself, but is particular about strange things}
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slovakia: There is much that still needs to be done since we gained our independence and you’re here reading? What is that, a romance novel?
Czechia: This is important work! I am looking through my old diary entries and some notes I have found to help me try and remember the way we lived our lives before.
Slovakia: The way we lived before?
Czechia: We have spent so many years under the thumbs of other countries and having to adopt their languages and cultures, we’ve forgotten much of our own. We cannot call ourselves fully independent until we reclaim our true identities from those Austro-Hungarian kategy!
(Kategy!: Categories! → Slovak)
Slovakia: What would it be like to go back to how we were?
Dream child Slovakia: Eheah, hah, hah!
Czechia: Well, I beat you in foot races and arm wrestling.
Dream child Czechia: Ahahahaha! You really do need to work on your stamina!
Dream child Slovakia: Shut up, you big jerk-face; it’s just ‘cause you’re bigger, but someday I’ll be bigger! And then I’ll show you!
Dream child Czechia: You shut up! Your face is jerk!
Dream teenage Czechia: So you can’t keep up in arts or academics, either. Would you like me to help you out with your studies, little boy? Hahahahaha!
Dream teenage Slovakia: Don’t be a butthead just ‘cause some big-shot decided to open a big fancy university for you and nobody built one for me!
Dream teenage Czechia: Your head is butt!
Slovakia’s thoughts: Now that I think about it, Czech kind of sucked before.
Czechia: What? What’s that look?
Slovakia: I think you’re cuter as you are now.
Czechia: Euh…euhoh. Shut up. You’re cute.
Slovakia: Heh. I remember when you talked like that. You sound just like the old Czech.
Czechia: Auhah, enough! Please stop! You’re being so annoying!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slovakia: But the name needs the hyphen!
(Czechia: Oh!)
Slovakia: Czecho hyphen Slovakia! It’s important! It should have a hyphen!
Czechia: Would you just shut up?! All your hyphen tantrums are starting to make word “hyphen” sound really weird!
(Slovakia: What do we do? We need hyphen! Hyphen! Hyphen! Hyphen!)
{Caption #1: Year 1938}
{Caption #2: Czecho-Slovakia}
Slovakia: It took a lot of tantrums, but the hyphen is finally back in! Hooray!
Czechia: We have far bigger things to worry about.
(Slovakia: Hehe!)
{Caption #1: Year 1945}
{Caption #2: Czechoslovakia}
Slovakia: Hold on, it was just there, right? We’re Czecho hyphen Slovakia. I know; the hyphen’s simply hiding.
Czechia: The hyphen’s not hiding. I have removed it for good. There was no point to it. None at all!
Slovakia: HENEAAAAAHHHH!
Czechia: Eheuh!
Slovakia: NO, PUT IT BACK! RESPECT OUR HYPHEN; THE HYPHEN IS IMPORTANT TO ME!
(Czechia: Eheaheww! Eh eh eh eh eh…)
Czechia: Gross! You can slather my hair with melted cheese, but the hyphen is gone, so you’re getting me all greasy for no reason!
(Slovakia: And if you don’t care about it, well, then, we are supposed to talk as equals, and you are to listen to my voices!)
Slovakia: Then I am going to keep rubbing this cheese into your hair until you put the hyphen back in!
Czechia: Why are you so clingy today?
Slovakia: Hehm…
Czechia: Get up out of my bubble!
Slovakia: It’s weird ‘cause I’m not trying to be.
Czechia: Ahuh…
Russia: Hm…hello to you; I am hearing you want fellow Slav for friend? I am friend to all Slavs. Now we are family, Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
(Slovakia: Ehe…ehe…eheh…)
(Czechia: Ehe…ehe…)
Slovakia: Sounds great. But can we write it as Czecho hyphen Slovak?
Czechia: Stop trying to negotiate with him before he decides our name needs to be West Slavia, you idiot.
(Russia: Hm?)
Slovakia: Ehehehe…
Czechia: Ehehehe…
Russia: Gehuh!
Narrator: And so began a healthy, loving, not at all coercive friendship that would carry on until 1989.

Norse Gods Associated with The Underworld
Hel
“Hel is a legendary being in Norse mythology who is said to preside over a realm of the same name, where she receives a portion of the dead. Hel is attested in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson. In addition, she is mentioned in poems recorded in Heimskringla and Egils saga that date from the 9th and 10th centuries, respectively. An episode in the Latin work Gesta Danorum, written in the 12th century by Saxo Grammaticus, is generally considered to refer to Hel, and Hel may appear on various Migration Period bracteates.
In the Poetic Edda, Prose Edda, and Heimskringla, Hel is referred to as a daughter of Loki. In the Prose Edda book Gylfaginning, Hel is described as having been appointed by the god Odin as ruler of a realm of the same name, located in Niflheim. In the same source, her appearance is described as half blue and half flesh-coloured and further as having a gloomy, downcast appearance. The Prose Edda details that Hel rules over vast mansions with many servants in her underworld realm and plays a key role in the attempted resurrection of the god Baldr.”
“Hel is generally presented as being rather greedy, harsh, and cruel, or at least indifferent to the concerns of both the living and the dead. However, her personality is little-developed in what survives of Old Norse literature. She’s mostly mentioned only in passing. Snorri describes her appearance as being half-black, half-white, and with a perpetually grim and fierce expression on her face.
The only surviving myth in which she features prominently is that of The Death of Baldur. The beloved god Baldur was slain by none other than Hel’s father, Loki, and the gods sent an emissary named Hermod to Hel in hopes of retrieving Baldur. Hermod pleaded with Hel, telling her how every living thing was in sorrow over the loss of Baldur. But Hel wouldn’t give up her prize so easily. She told Hermod – in a taunting way, we can imagine – that she would only consent to release Baldur if every last thing in the universe wept for him. Hermod and the other gods went around and got almost everything in the cosmos to weep for Baldur. Only one giantess, who was probably Loki in disguise, refused. But because of that one refusal, the terms of Hel’s offer weren’t met, and Hel kept Baldur in her cold clutches.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Krampus
“In Central European folklore, Krampus is a horned, anthropomorphic figure described as "half-goat, half-demon", who, during the Christmas season, punishes children who have misbehaved. This contrasts with Saint Nicholas, who rewards the well-behaved with gifts. Krampus is one of the companions of Saint Nicholas in several regions including Austria, Bavaria, Croatia, Hungary, Northern Italy including South Tyrol and the Trentino, and Slovenia. The origin of the figure is unclear; some folklorists and anthropologists have postulated it as having pre-Christian origins.
In traditional parades and in such events as the Krampuslauf (English: Krampus run), young men dressed as Krampus participate. Such events occur annually in most Alpine towns. Krampus is featured on holiday greeting cards called Krampuskarten.”
“Amangled, deranged face with bloodshot eyes tops a furry black body. Giant horns curl up from his head, displaying his half-goat, half-demon lineage. Behind this terror, a dozen more stomp through the snow of the streets of Lienz, Austria, among a din of cowbell jangles. The creatures dash through the streets, chasing giggling children and adults alike, poking them with sticks and scaring some with the realization that they were naughty this year.
Lienz' annual Krampus Parade, also known as Perchtenlauf or Klaubaufe, resurrects a centuries-old tradition: Young men in town dress up as the mythical creature and parade through the streets in an ancient pagan ritual meant to disperse winter's ghosts. They march dressed in fur suits and carved wooden masks and carrying cowbells. The tradition—also known as the Krampuslauf, or Krampus Run—is having a resurgence throughout Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Hungary and the Czech Republic, and has gained recognition in the United States.”

Loke / Loki
“Loki, in Norse mythology, a cunning trickster who had the ability to change his shape and sex. Although his father was the giant Fárbauti, he was included among the Aesir (a tribe of gods). Loki was represented as the companion of the great gods Odin and Thor, helping them with his clever plans but sometimes causing embarrassment and difficulty for them and himself. He also appeared as the enemy of the gods, entering their banquet uninvited and demanding their drink. He was the principal cause of the death of the god Balder. Loki was bound to a rock (by the entrails of one or more of his sons, according to some sources) as punishment, thus in many ways resembling the Greek figures Prometheusand Tantalus. Also like Prometheus, Loki is considered a god of fire.”
“Loki is a god in Norse mythology. Loki is in some sources the son of Fárbauti and Laufey, and the brother of Helblindi and Býleistr. By the jötunn Angrboða, Loki is the father of Hel, the wolf Fenrir, and the world serpent Jörmungandr. By his wife Sigyn, Loki is the father of Narfi and/or Nari. By the stallion Svaðilfari, Loki is the mother—giving birth in the form of a mare—to the eight-legged horse Sleipnir. In addition, Loki is referred to as the father of Váli in Prose Edda, though this source also refers to Odin as the father of Váli twice, and Váli is found mentioned as a son of Loki only once.
Loki's relation with the gods varies by source; Loki sometimes assists the gods and sometimes behaves maliciously towards them. Loki is a shape shifter and in separate incidents appears in the form of a salmon, a mare, a fly, and possibly an elderly woman named Þökk (Old Norse 'thanks'). Loki's positive relations with the gods end with his role in engineering the death of the god Baldr, and eventually, Váli binds Loki with the entrails of one of his sons. In both the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda, the goddess Skaði is responsible for placing a serpent above him while he is bound. The serpent drips venom from above him that Sigyn collects into a bowl; however, she must empty the bowl when it is full, and the venom that drips in the meantime causes Loki to writhe in pain, thereby causing earthquakes. With the onset of Ragnarök, Loki is foretold to slip free from his bonds and to fight against the gods among the forces of the jötnar, at which time he will encounter the god Heimdallr, and the two will slay each other.”

Jörmungandr
“In Norse mythology, Jörmungandr also known as the Midgard (World) Serpent (Old Norse: Miðgarðsormr), is a sea serpent, the middle child of the giantess Angrboða and Loki. According to the Prose Edda, Odin took Loki's three children by Angrboða—the wolf Fenrir, Hel, and Jörmungandr—and tossed Jörmungandr into the great ocean that encircles Midgard. The serpent grew so large that it was able to surround the Earth and grasp its own tail. As a result, it received the name of the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent. When it releases its tail, Ragnarök will begin. Jörmungandr's arch-enemy is the thunder-god, Thor. It is an example of an ouroboros.”
