Now she lives the Australian dream happily ever after. How good! Looking for camp I switched to 4WD-low then heard a loud clunk, like a sack of tatters dropped on the kitchen island bench. Great. When Jimmy said “you’ve fully f***ed your yoke”, I thought he was trying to make a joke. I knew nothing about the drivetrain of a car, let alone yoke, uni-joints, CV-joints, transfer case, driveshaft, etc. They all just sound…erotic. Anyway, the rear driveshaft completely flopped out and shattered the yoke. For non-mechanical enthusiasts, no rear driveshaft means no rear wheel spin, no bueno amigo. We were so lucky to have James with us, otherwise we probably wouldn’t make it out of Fraser Island with only front 2-wheel drive, as we needed towing twice. Luck played a big part here. Agnes Water nos dejó con la miel en los labios. Veníamos dispuestas a darlo todo y pasar varios días surfeando las olas del Pacífico, pero nada, que no hay forma. 🇦🇺 El viento soplaba justo al contrario, el mar era una auténtica balsa, ni espumitas. Así que nuestro gozo en un pozo. Tuvimos que conformarnos con algunas caminatas por la costa (atardeceres y amaneceres increíbles eso sí). 🇦🇺 Si estás pensando en surfear en Australia tienes que apuntar este lugar en el mapa. Puedes alquilar una tabla por 25$/4h, y si necesitas un australiano/a buenorro/a como lo monitor/a por un poquito más lo tienes. 🇦🇺 Pero a parte de surfear, Agnes Water también es lugar para hacer un snorkel muy bueno. Between the viscous fan trouble, we managed to do a short camp overlooking Duranbah Beach, Tweed Heads. Funnily, there’s a line on the map and ground there that marks the border of NSW and QLD. With border closures this was sketchy, there’s no strict policing since that ‘line’ is also a grey jurisdictional area, the state government powers sort of overlaps. Although the authorities came to check, they can’t legally fine you. Ha! So, a few glorious mornings waking up to the sunrise, coffeeing, reading, skating, beering, surf and slothing around gorgeous Coolangatta beaches was pure bliss. Henri even managed to get 5-seconds of fame of his monotone “we planned to travel Australia, so we had to cross the borders before it closed” on ABC News primetime.
