TF2 nationality headcanons

(I think of RED and BLU as separate characters, who might just happen to look/act alike)

RED Scout - american (Boston, MA) (his ma has irish ancestry, from Galway - I saw this headcanon somewhere and I love it)

BLU Scout - filipino-american (NYC)

RED Soldier - american obv (Atkins, AR) (I know that he's supposed to be from the midwest but I don't care. I headcanon that his dad is from Idaho and his mom is from Ohio. Also I think he's like 25% native or something because I think it'd be funny/interesting if he's not 100% White American™)

BLU Soldier - american obv (somewhere in Virginia) (he was raised by eagles in the Appalachian wilderness, so he barely speaks coherent english)

RED Pyro - chinese (somewhere in the south, but spent most of their childhood homeless in Shanghai) (they never told anyone and it's unlikely they ever will. The only people who know are Pauling and the Spies, but none of them will tell) (I know it's a popular headcanon but I never really saw them as mexican, sorry)

BLU Pyro - irish (Dublin) (their muffled voice is made harder to decipher due to their hardcore irish accent. BLU Demo can understand it best)

RED Demoman - scottish (Ullapool) (literally canon)

BLU Demoman - scottish (Glasgow)

RED Heavy - russian (somewhere in far eastern Siberia) (his family doesn't look white, especially Zhanna, so I think they're probably some kind of siberian people)

BLU Heavy - ??? (swedish? belarusian? idk man)

RED Engie - american (Bee Cave, TX) (I hc the Conaghers as a whole to be a mix of white & latino, so the Engies speak spanish as a second language and often just switch to it to exchange praise/insults/advice without others noticing)

BLU Engie - american (Bee Cave, TX) (RED Engie's cousin although doesn't have the Conagher surname actually)

RED Medic - german obv (Stuttgart) (jewish, although his family probably converted to christianity many years ago and either way they're not particularly religious, Medic is actually the "most religious" of his immediate family but that's just because he knows Satan exists)

BLU Medic - british-greek

RED Sniper - new zealander, half-māori (born in Auckland, raised near-ish to Perth)

BLU Sniper - australian, half-aboriginal (somewhere in the outback in Queensland) (the half-aboriginal thing is also a headcanon I saw somewhere and happily adopted)

RED Spy & BLU Spy - french (Paris) (they're twins)

Finally starting some proper fieldwork for my PhD! Took us awhile to buy some hives for me to work on.

I’m starting by giving different types of stimulus to Australian native stingless bees (Tetragonula carbonaria) to see if there’s an innate preference for certain colours, patterns or texture.

I haven't touched this blog in *checks time* awhile, but I have headcanons. Specifically, animal headcanons because I'm autistic and animals are my everything.

Specific states have animal like features due to their state nicknames

-Loui has pelican wings since he is the pelican state

-Michigan has wolverine ears, tail, and claws since he's the wolverine state

-Iowa has red-tailed hawk wings because (GO HAWKS and ik he's the "hawkeye" state but let me have this, iowa needs more cool shit)

-Wisconsin has badger ears, tail, claws, and blank and white stripes in his hair

-Oregon has beaver ears and slightly larger front teeth and he may or may not have a beaver tail (he does but hid it at first because he was self conscious but then realized he can smack California with it one day and now he only hides it when he's around more than just the west)

-Utah has little bee wings and very small antenna that he hides under his hair (and Colorado swears he saw he also has a stinger but no one believes him or questions why he knows)

-Ohio may or may not have deer ears and a tail (to this day this has never been confirmed but there have been many attempts by many states to figure this out)

New Mexico and Arizona have Gila Monsters! They're the only states they are native to that have them as pets because California spends a lot of time at meetings, Nevada works on the strip so he's barely home, and Utah has kids so New Mexico and Arizona are really the only one's home enough to care for one. I don't have a name for the Gilas yet, but New Mexico made jewelry for each of the states Gila's are native to that can't have one. Nevada has a ring that has some of the Gila's shed in the middle, Utah has a bracelet that has the same color and texture of their scales, and California has a necklace that has a pendent shaped like a Gila.

I think Arizona would have a whole reptile collection. So would Florida but in a different way. Arizona's would be like the more traditional professional reptile collection with proper habitats and equipment. Florida will bring home a toad, a python, and a swamp puppy and let them have free range of his house until someone reminds his that it is, in fact, not a good idea.

Texas has a Texas Heeler (a cross between an Australian shepherd and a blue heeler) he's named Buck that he's trained to nip at Oklahoma's and California's ankles whenever he's around them (side note: I've had a Texas Heeler and yes they do this a l o t and it hurts a little bit and I love Buck)
