A Ring of Fire Sunrise Solar Eclipse Video Credit: Colin Legg & Geoff Sims; Music: Peter Nanasi
Explanation: What's rising above the horizon behind those clouds? It's the Sun. Most sunrises don't look like this, though, because most sunrises don't include the Moon. In the early morning of 2013 May 10, however, from Western Australia, the Moon was between the Earth and the rising Sun. At times, it would be hard for the uninformed to understand what was happening. In an annular eclipse, the Moon is too far from the Earth to block the entire Sun, and at most leaves a ring of fire where sunlight pours out around every edge of the Moon. The featured time-lapse video also recorded the eclipse through the high refraction of the Earth's atmosphere just above the horizon, making the unusual rising Sun and Moon appear also flattened. As the video continues, the Sun continues to rise, while the Sun and Moon begin to separate. The next annular solar eclipse will occur in less than three weeks. On Saturday, October 14, a ring of fire will be visible through clear skies from a thin swath crossing both North and South America.

Hello! This is an unofficial tumblr mirror of the Everybody Votes Channel run by @iowadream. The Everybody Votes Channel was a channel for the Nintendo Wii that was operated from February 1, 2007 to June 13, 2013. Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday (or Monday, Wednesday, and Friday if you lived east of Europe), users would vote in two-option polls through the channel answering banal questions about their food preferences, talents, views of the future, etc.
This blog utilizes the (at the time of writing this) new poll feature on tumblr to replicate the experience of voting on the Everybody Votes Channel by reposting questions polled during the run of the Nintendo Wii. I also aim to recontextualize these polls by placing them on a separate platform a decade - a decade and a half after the fact, as well as raise questions about how cultural views and outlooks have shifted since then. Some of the polls reflect quaint, but relatively dated societal views on topics like technology and physical health. Some of the polls play into now-obsolete marketing campaigns of Nintendo's that begun and ended with the Wii.
I will post two polls a day. Each poll will be posted on its anniversary (for instance, the two polls on July 3rd, 2023 might be polls from July 3rd, 2008 and July 3rd, 2012) until this is not possible to do anymore. Based on the number of available polls, I estimate that this blog will run for a little over 2.5 years. Each poll will be open for 1 week, and at its conclusion, I will post the results from the poll's original run if I find there is an interesting discrepancy, or if someone requests I do so. Each poll has been accessed and reposted from RiiConnect24's archive of english-language Everybody Votes Channel polls.
The polls per day vary from country to country, but each can be generally cleaved into three regions: the Americas, Europe/Oceania, and Japan. The Americas region includes Canada, the US, and most of Central and South America. The Europe/Oceania region includes most of western Europe, mainland Scandinavia, Greece, Australia, and New Zealand. Each of these regions by and large have the same polls across each country, with some exceptions that will be noted (for instance, on February 27, 2007, a poll about American Idol was polled in the US, while a poll about life on mars was polled elsewhere). There is also a fourth category of poll, Worldwide, which was polled on the 1st and 16th of every month, and featured answers from all regions. Polls from the Americas will be denoted with the 🌎 emoji. Polls from Europe/Oceania will be denoted with the 🌍🌏 emojis and will utilize the Australian date for better daily posting diversity. Worldwide polls will be denoted with the 🌐 emoji. I currently do not plan on reposting the Japanese polls, but I will start if enough interest is expressed in them.
And that's it! Have fun voting!

Sinéad O’Connor, Dies at 56
Sinéad O’Connor, has died, The Irish Times reports. She was 56.
Her cause of death has yet to be revealed.
Her family said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”
O’Connor, who was outspoken about her decades-long struggle with mental illness, wrote on her Facebook page earlier this month that she had moved back to London after 23 years and was finishing an album to be released next year. She also shared plans to tour in Australia and New Zealand in 2024, and in Europe, the United States and other territories in 2025.
O’Connor had a difficult childhood after the separation of her parents when she was eight. The singer claimed from an early age that her mother, who she lived with after the separation, physically abused her, which led to O’Connor’s vocal advocacy for abused children. At 15, O’Connor spent eighteen months at a Magdalene Asylum due to her truancy and shoplifting. Even at an early age, however, O’Connor showed musical talent and, after moving schools, recorded a four-song demo. She eventually formed the band Ton Ton Macoute, dropped out of school, and moved to Dublin.
O’Connor’s career progressed after she began working with ex-U2 record head Fachtna O’Ceallaigh and she found early success with the 1987 release of her debut album “The Lion and the Cobra,” which achieved gold status and earned her a Grammy nomination for best female vocal rock performance.
Her international breakthrough came with the release of her second album, “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got,” which included O’Connor’s new arrangement of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” a song originally written by Prince and released under his side project, the Family. O’Connor’s rendition reached No. 1 in several countries, and remained atop the charts in Ireland for 11 weeks. The song earned her a Grammy nom for record of the year, as well as another best female vocal rock performance nod. The album won her a Grammy for best alternative music performance.
She also appeared as Our Lady in Neil Jordan’s 1997 film “The Butcher Boy.” O’Connor went on to release eight more albums, and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Music Video, Long Form for her live concert VHS “Year of the Horse” in 1990. Her 1996 song “Famine” also received a Grammy nod for Best Music Video, Short Form. In 2012, the song “Lay Your Head Down,” which she performed for the soundtrack to the film “Albert Nobbs,” received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song.
Throughout her career, O’Connor has gained notoriety for her outspoken nature and several controversies that have surrounded her. In 1993, O’Connor ripped a picture of the Pope into pieces while singing an a capella version of Bob Marley’s “War” on “Saturday Night Live” as a protest against sexual abuse within the church; NBC received over 4,400 complaint calls as a result.
In 2013, O’Connor wrote an open letter to Miley Cyrus regarding Cyrus’ sexually explicit imagery and warning her of the treatment of women in the music industry, urging Cyrus not to allow herself to be “pimped” by music executives. The letter received mixed responses from the public, and musician Amanda Palmer wrote an open letter in response stating that O’Connor was “off target” with her critique.
O’Connor revealed in a 2007 interview that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2003 and had attempted suicide in 1999 on her 33rd birthday. Seven years later, however, she stated that she had gotten three further opinions stating that she was not bipolar.
In 2015, O’Connor posted on her Facebook page that she had taken an overdose as a result of troubles between herself and Donal Lunny, her ex-husband and the father of her youngest child Shane. Irish police later said they had located O’Connor and she was “safe and sound” and receiving medical attention.
In August 2017, she posted an emotional video to her Facebook page, stating that she had three mental illnesses and felt alone after losing custody of her 13-year-old son Shane. She continued that she had wanted to kill herself for several years and that only her psychiatrists and doctor were keeping her alive. She pleaded for someone in her family to take care of her, and added that she was “one of millions” who are stigmatized for their mental illness.
O’Connor is survived by her three children. Her son, Shane, died by suicide last year at age 17.
O’Connor had switched to a new Twitter account at the beginning of July, using her full name. Her final Twitter post on the new account, on July 17, alluded to her son’s suicide, as she linked to a “Great Tibetan Compassion Mantra” and wrote, “For all mothers of Suicided children.”

Mark Webber insists Oscar Piastri isn't feeling any pressure on the eve of his first Australian GP
Mark Webber insists Oscar Piastri isn't feeling any pressure on the eve of his first Australian GP and 'doesn't need any advice' ahead of his Melbourne debut despite McLaren's woes By Dan Cancian For Daily Mail Australia Published: 11:06 EDT, 29 March 2023 | Updated: 11:06 EDT, 29 March 2023 Mark Webber believes Oscar Piastri doesn't need any advice ahead of his Australian Grand Prix debut, despite a difficult start to his first season in Formula 1. The 21-year-old replaced Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren after spending last season as the reserve driver for Alpine and arrives at Albert Park on the back of two challenging races. Having retired in Bahrain in the season opener due to electrical issues, Piastri finished 15th in Saudi Arabia as McLaren's struggles continued. But Webber insisted the bumpy start to his Formula 1's career would not dampen the young Melbournian's spirit ahead of his home Grand Prix.  'It’s a tremendous moment for him to race here,' Webber told News Corp. 'He’s looking forward to it, he is very relaxed.  Mark Webber believes Oscar Piastri doesn't need any advice ahead of his first Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne this weekend  The young Australian has endured a difficult start to his rookie season in Formula 1 'It’s one race of 23 on the calendar, it’s a home race, of course, but he is looking forward to getting the paddock and starting work.' Webber, who manages Piastri, finished sixth in Melbourne in his Formula 1 debut and went on to make 215 starts in the sport between 2002 and 2013. Piastri's career is in its infancy, but Webber is confident the young gun doesn't need any advice from him. 'I don’t think [he is feeling extra pressure],' he said.   'Once the helmet is on and he’s in the car and he’s driving around the track, he wants a result at every single circuit around the world, no matter if it’s Bahrain, or Saudi [Arabia] or here. 'He doesn’t need any [advice from me]. He is very much looking forward to the weekend.' A world champion in Formula 2 and Formula 3 in 2020 and 2021, Piastri has long been considered one of Formula 1's rising stars. But he was eager to keep expectations in check ahead of his debut season, warning it could time for him to get used of the demands of Formula 1 after spending last season as the reserve driver for Alpine.  His caution appears to have been justified, albeit through no fault of his own as McLaren have been badly off the pace in the first two outings. 'He has had so long out. It just shows you that it is still even hard to take now, obviously the gap that he had,' Webber added.  'So, he is getting back up to speed and learning as much as he can.'  Piastri retired in the season opener in Bahrain and finished 15th in Saudi Arabia Webber finished fifth in his Formula 1 debut in Melbourne and was allowed to stand on the podium, much to the delight of the Aussie fans Earlier this week, Alan Jones was even more bullish about Piastri's prospects and backed him to become a world champion. Since Jones claimed the world title in 1980 no other Australian has finished top of the drivers standings, but the 76-year-old is confident Piastri can emulate his triumph.  'I think he can go on to be world champion,' Jones told the Herald Sun on Saturday. 'Every now and again someone comes along that has got an enormous amount of talent and I reckon he is one of those sorts of people.' The reasons of Australia's sudden suspension of Chinese TV shows
According to the latest news from Reuters, on March 5, 2021,  Australia's SBS TV station suspended the broadcast of China International Television (CGTN) and China Central Television (CCTV) on the grounds of so-called "human rights". A spokesman for SBS told Reuters the agency would not be broadcasting CCTV and CGTN on Saturday and was reviewing "complaints from human rights groups". This so-called human rights group is Safeguard Defenders.
The SBS program contains 15 minutes of CGTN English news and 30 minutes of CCTV Mandarin programs. Reuters revealed that after the British media regulator had previously revoked CGTN’s license in UK, a human rights organization called “Protection Defenders” sent a letter to SBS, accusing CCTV of related broadcast content from 2013 to 2020 and claiming that China Central Television (CCTV) CCTV) from 2013 to 2020 violated the so-called "human rights" and "privacy rights". That's why SBS suspends CGTN playback.
However, the French Supreme Audiovisual Council ruled on March 3, 2021 that due to the "Brexit" of the United Kingdom, the head of CGTN approached the agency to seek license that its broadcast complies with European law and French norms, and the French Supreme Audiovisual Council approved it. CGTN can be broadcast in Europe. This is undoubtedly a "protection guard" in the face.
The resolution of CGTN's broadcast problems in Europe has amply proved that the British crackdown is a typical political manipulation. Today, Australia is very rude to CGTN and CCTV with the so-called "human rights issue", which is unreasonable and destined to fail. Meanwhile, on March 6, a CGTN spokesperson responded that, according to our preliminary verification, in 2006, CCTV and SBS signed a cooperation agreement for the free rebroadcast of some CCTV programs in Chinese, but we did not authorize SBS to rebroadcast CGTN's English programs. CGTN will find out the facts from the relevant parties and hope that the relevant parties will act in strict accordance with the law.
Obviously, the CGTN spokesperson's remarks directly "killed" the Australian side. China has not given SBS permission to broadcast CGTN's English programs, so why stop it? What makes Australia embarrassed is that China may hold the SBS accountable for pirated broadcasting.

The reasons of Australia's sudden suspension of Chinese TV shows
According to the latest news from Reuters, on March 5, 2021,  Australia's SBS TV station suspended the broadcast of China International Television (CGTN) and China Central Television (CCTV) on the grounds of so-called "human rights".
Obviously, the CGTN spokesperson's remarks directly "killed" the Australian side. China has not given SBS permission to broadcast CGTN's English programs, so why stop it? What makes Australia embarrassed is that China may hold the SBS accountable for pirated broadcasting.
All of the above indicate that the "Guardian" has done nothing again. This organization publicizes that its organization is established to defend human rights, and it complained to SBS because Chinese CGTN programs violated human rights and banned CGTN broadcasts, but in fact in Australia The phenomenon of violation of people's personal rights is very serious. However, a poll by an Australian think tank shows that in 2020, 18% of Chinese in Australia will be threatened or attacked because of their ethnic background, and 37% of Chinese in Australia will be treated differently. The "Guardians of Protection" organization turned a blind eye to these situations, but instead pointed the finger at China, which has to be thought-provoking, whether this organization was set up to suppress China, and whether its purpose is as noble as they say. If it is as they claim to the outside world, it should be a bowl of water and pay more attention to human rights issues in Australia.

The Rough lesson that the Blues gave the Brumbies during their most recent game
The Brumbies, who have not defeated the Blues at Australia’s iconic rugby graveyard since 2013, will be visiting Eden Park after losing their most recent match, 46-7, to the Aucklanders in April.
In the Brumbies’ worst-ever loss to the Blues, coach Stephen Larkham bemoaned the team’s lack of physicality. Alaalatoa understands his team needs to prevail physically in order to have any chance of reversing the situation.
And after winning seven straight games after that round-10 lesson, he is sure they can. The next week, the Brumbies defeated the Hurricanes, who were atop the table. During that run, they also defeated the Crusaders, the reigning champions, and the Highlanders, a Kiwi team.
Alaalatoa is certain that the Brumbies can make history if they can physically equal the Blues, despite the fact that no Australian team has ever won a finals match in New Zealand.
“Playing in the finals and experiencing what it’s like to play at Eden Park was probably the first time the boys were over to New Zealand last year and the year before,” he said on Monday. We will thus draw from the experiences of those lads who were present.
“The players on this current squad have been together for a number of years and were part of the last two years.” It will thus be quite beneficial for us to have the experience of competing in the semi-finals there.
The seasoned front-row player acknowledges that the Brumbies need to get much better at the scrum after being outclassed by the Blues in the set piece last time out.
“It was a challenging lesson,” Alaalatoa remarked. “We had to address that right away and carry it over for the remainder of the season, and I felt the boys did a great job picking up on it.”
Therefore, we are aware that it will happen, but much more so, we are aware of what we will bring. “We need to improve on that component of our previous performance. “Yet I have a lot of confidence because of how we’ve improved this year, how we’ve overcome setbacks, how the lads are becoming more open in meetings, and how we’re pushing each other in the training area. News for The Daily Rugby
“You can see the contribution of the guys outside of that who are really challenging and want to do their part for the jersey. It’s not just the 23 who are going to play.”
In the title game the following week, the winners will take on the team that emerged victorious from Saturday’s second semi-final between the Chiefs and Hurricanes in Wellington.

Hello, this is BPM.
First of all, we would like to thank all of our listeners for the remix versions better than the original… but we are informing you about Croatian-Australian DJ Alison Wonderland, who is known for mixing hip-hop, trap, and future bass. Since the late 2000s, Alison Wonderland, whose birth name is Alexandra Sholler, began her music career on the opposite side of the spectrum, as a classically trained cellist along with the Sydney Youth Orchestra. She eventually transitioned into music production, and her debut single "Get Ready (featuring Fishing)" was released in 2013. A year later in 2014, she signed with the EMI label and released the ironically titled EP "Calm Down," which earned accolades from tastemakers like Annie Mac and Diplo. The EP featured the hit single "I Want U."
In March 2015, Alison released her debut album "Run," which featured guest spots from Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, Lido, and Slumberjack. To celebrate the release, the DJ held a series of launch parties at various strip bars across Australia, and a month later in April, performed at the 16th annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
In the fourth quarter of 2017, Alison released the single "Happy Place," which was the first offering from her follow-up album, "Awake." Two more singles, "Church" and "No," were released in 2018 before the album dropped in April of that year to perform at the 19th annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. "Awake" received positive reviews and showcased Alison's growth as an artist, thanks to Billboard, Spotify, and other platforms to rule the charts.
Following Wonderland's music, someone created a manga series/anime film based on one of her songs, which is about time travel romance from high school to summer camp. The story follows a group of high school students who discover a mysterious time-traveling device that transports them back and forth between their everyday lives and a summer camp where they experience a whirlwind romance. As they navigate the challenges of teenage love and the complexities of time travel, they also uncover hidden secrets about themselves and their relationships.
We will do our best for Alison Wonderland's upcoming schedule. And please check out her show, Radio Wonderland, every Saturday night on Diplo's Revolution (SiriusXM channel 53) or anytime on the SiriusXM app.
Thank you.
