I have FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY watched the final episode of Attack On Titan, and I am so glad I managed to avoid spoilers until now because it was PERFECT. (not gonna spoil anything in this post)
I heard so many people didn't like it and I was a bit worried getting into it, but this ending was goddamn beautiful.
It wrapped up the story perfectly. It was amazing. It was tragic. It was pathetic. It was so much better that anything I could hope for.
My only regret is not being able to do a full rewatch because I'm scared it's gonna trigger my nightmares (which is also why I was putting off watching the final for so long, but I think I'm gonna be ok).
Damn it was good. I wish I could remember the full context of the show to properly enjoy this ending. I'm so sad I can't rewatch it.

Seeing some people interpret the ending as “everything was pointless what’s it all for” greatly ignored the message behind Armin and Zeke’s conversation.
And it’s a very important one. There is meaning to life even if the cycle never ends. Enjoy the moment, appreciate the world. Find the love. As Erwin said, we all die. But does that make our lives and lives of our comrades meaningless? No.
This world is cruel but very beautiful.

What I like about Eren as a foil to the warriors is that the warriors grew up amid abuse and terror but still chose to love each other and do what they thought was right, while Eren grew up with all the love and support in the world but still desired to destroy the world.
The warriors had nothing and wanted to make the world better for their beloved, no matter how much they were tricked and used by the world and their beloved for that goal. Eren had everything but wanted to make the world worse for everyone, no matter how much he had to trick and use the world and his beloved for that goal.
Eren was always going to destroy, because to hurt indiscriminately is in his nature. Just as the warriors would always choose to love, because to carry others' burdens is in their nature.

Goodbye Attack on Titan
(sorry for the long post!)
I finally watched the dub for the final episode today, concluding my Attack on Titan journey. This show has been dear to me ever since I started the first episode and I formed great emotional attachment to all the characters quicker than any other show I've seen.
I started watching around maybe two years ago, starting on just my iPad screen. I watched every episode on that iPad until I hit the middle of season three and realized, "hey, this show is getting really intense, I need to watch it on the TV." And that started those days where I would stay in my living room and watch as much as I possibly could until my Dad got home. I eventually moved down to my basement and watched as much as I could since it was such an addicting show.
I started the fourth season, lights off, warm blankets, snacks, almost every other day. I couldn't get enough of the show, the characters, the story, and the action. One day I realized that I watched every episode in season four except for the first special. I decided to save that for the next day and I had no regrets. I will always remember seeing that episode for the first time and having intense goosebumps whenever something dramatic happened. I will never forget when I cried for 10 minutes straight over Hange's death and still being sad about it for a while (it still hurts).
I finished everything. I just had to wait for the final episode. But, I just had to have someone to talk to about this show with. So, I got my mom hooked on the show. This started my second watch of the whole show, but in dub. It started out rough, she didn't enjoy it as much until the battle of trost arc. After that, she was hooked on the show like me.
I gave her the first watch experience I never got to have, on the big screen. We watched every episode and almost every ova together until we had to wait for the first special to get dubbed. The wait was painful, but it finally came. The day the final episode was released for the sub version, me and my mom decided to just watch it then since we needed to see the ending. We turned off the lights, got comfortable, cried, and cried, and cried some more. We never slept so well after that.
And that makes it to today. We had the exact same setup as always. Lights off, blankets, snacks, and of course, we cried. We sat down and watched the entire episode with the cast we quickly grew to love. It was tough letting go for her, and it was even harder for me to let go of the characters I grew deep connections with.
This show made me realize, the more you get connected to the characters, the harder it is to let go. And I don't think I'll ever be able to let go. This show did not just make me realize that I can cry for hours over fictional characters, but it made me realize how quickly stories can change without you realizing it.
Goodbye Attack on Titan.
Dedicate your heart.
