What You Meant To Him (Part One)

Pairing: Armin Arlert x Fem!Reader Tags: Attack On Titan 2 (The Video Game), Fluff, Cliffhanger TW: Mentions of Blood, Mentions of Death, Pessimistic POV.

Based on the MC of the game ‘Attack On Titan 2’. You follow their same backstory. You came from Shiganshina just like Eren, Armin and Mikasa. You also watched your parents die, crushed by a boulder in front of your eyes. 

It was times like these where you wondered why these people had such faith in you. It’s not like you spoke to them, or even interacted much for that matter. You were only doing your job. The job that had taken over your life for the past three years, the very thing you trained for. Sadies said you were one of his best students, able to guide and collaborate with a team no problem. He referenced you as a true leader, someone trustworthy. In these moments, you felt you’d let his expectations down. As if you hadn’t done enough. 

Looking down from the wall as the Titans barged into the Trost district. Stood atop the wall while two squad captains and the commander of the scouts discussed what to do with you. One of these squad leaders, Hange, had spotted you from afar as you skilfully slashed down Titan upon Titan. Listening to their conversation felt like a heavy weight on your shoulders. They deemed you too skilled to not be temporarily promoted to the scouts under Hange’s guidance - Talking about how many lives you had saved today. That part hurt the most as not only were you covered in your own blood, but the blood of your comrades too. Those who had splattered across your vision and onto your clothes. Staring down at your hands, the hands that held blades only meant for slaughter. Endless slaughter. Until you were slaughtered yourself. Recalling back to the moment that sparked your motivation to do this, the death of those who had raised you. 

Brows furrowing as the leaders spoke about you as if you weren’t there. Fingers curling into a clench as you took a deep breath. Finally snapping from your thoughts to pay attention to the present situation. Wanting your own say in how you were treated. Even though the situation for everyone right now was life or death. “I’m right here you know.” Blunt words escaping your mouth. Eyes drawn into slits as you glared at the group in front of you. The first to take the initiative being Commander Erwin. Turning to you with a soft expression, a face that held no emotion but you could tell meant you no true harm. “Apologies for not including you in the discussion. Are you alright with being in Hange’s squad for this? If not you may go back to your own squad, I am sure they are in dire need of your assistance.” His words were overwhelmingly polite for the current situation at hand. The mention of your fallen allies garnered an involuntary wince, immediately everyone's faces on that wall soured. They had not made the situation any better for you at all it seemed. “I understand. I apologise once more, that was rather insensitive.” Erwin spoke again. Though this time he didn’t bother waiting for your reaction “It seems you don’t have much of a choice do you?” He looked towards you with a blank face, his words not holding much for you to cling too either. You really didn’t have a choice, but had you ever? “Choice is a luxury I do not have.” You replied to him. Hange stifled a giggle at your blunt, yet harsh wording towards the Commander. He seemed amused too with your words. “You don’t beat around the bush, it’s admirable. Well the decision is made, until it is time for you to graduate you will be part of Hange’s squad. Do you understand?” He truly did sound like a man who ordered people around all day, you nodded reluctantly. Dropping off of the wall to find people to help, along with Hange and her squad. 

-- Time Jump, to as the new scouts arrive at headquarters -- 

It had been a month since you had become a member of Hange’s squad, of course not permanently. Some complications happened and you were temporarily transferred into Levi’s care as a helper for Eren Jaeger. These complications being said Eren Jaeger was actually a Titan. You didn’t care much for the details, nor did you want to pry at him since he kept having to tell the other squad members he knew as much as they did. 

The two of you had spoken a lot thanks to Levi constantly putting you and him on the same floor to clean. He often spoke pleasantly of his childhood friends; Armin and Mikasa. You had to keep reminding him you were also part of the one hundred and fourth cadet corps. In his defence, you were like Annie never uttering much more than a word to people at a time. You also hadn’t told him your name until a week ago. That’s when something even more annoying than his rambles would happen where he’d say something and then immediately cut himself off. Often when he spoke about Armin, it was like he was saying something he wasn’t meant to. It got to the point where you began to pry him for that information. That was when you found out something, that changed your perspective on a lot of how your life had gone. 

“You know, Armin actually talks about y-” There he went again, cutting himself off before finishing his sentence. It had actually begun to irritate you. Getting under your skin, if he was going to ramble the least he could do was tell you everything. Something to get you through the endless cleaning you were forced to endure. “Eren, don’t just stop mid-sentence. I won’t judge Armin, nor will I tell him you said anything. So just spit it out already.” Your words are blunt and filled with annoyance. He could definitely see you were at the end of your tether with him doing this. His face was a little shocked at your outburst, a small sigh escaping him as he began to speak once again.  “Fine, you asked for it I guess. Armin often talks about you.” The voice that usually sounded snarky faded into something more gentle. As if he was trying to enact how Armin had said it himself. “He talks about how incredible you are. It might sound a little creepy but he observes how you use ODM gear. He wanted to ask you about why you use it in that way instead of the way we were taught but then Trost happened and he didn’t get that opportunity. There was a lot more he said of course, but I genuinely don’t think he’d want me to share the nitty bits with you. Especially you.” He basically revealed everything within those last two lines. At least for you it solidified it. He talked about the other things Armin had addressed about you. It was obvious how the blonde felt about you. 

It was strange to hear how someone thought so highly of you and not just for their own personal gain, but because he genuinely appreciated you. It was something you couldn’t really say you were used to. In your entire fifteen years of living, only ten of them had included unconditional love and appreciation. It may sound like a lot, but for you it wasn’t. Arlert had described you in a way you hadn’t been before. Like you were some sort of deity sent from above to bless him. It was endearing to know you had that effect on him.

Graduation had finished a day ago, you hadn’t actually had to go since Levi had officially signed you into his group a few days ago. Now you stood in the stables gently brushing the horses’ coat, hoping you’d see the familiar faces of the one hundred and fourth cadets. It didn’t take long for it to become a reality as you heard footsteps approaching along with familiar voices. 

Quickly joining the crowd, the first to lock his eyes on you being none other than the blonde himself. Armin. His eyes held a beam of adoration, something you’d only really read in books. A feeling you thought was fiction, seemed to be something he was genuinely experiencing with you. Gingerly, you waved to him. He waved back bashfully. This was going to be the start of something truly intriguing.

i know i won't get it but the only thing i want after the show ends is another game a la attack on titan 2

i'm forever obsessed with how well they implemented a non-existent character into the story. i want it again but this time the cac story mode needs to cover all seasons.

i don't even care if it brings the player character back or just does a totally new story i just want it. this game fucking rules
