Perfection

AC: Odyssey Pairing: Kassandra x Reader Words: 912 Warnings: None

You can't help but think about how much you love to spend your evenings like this. Kassandra always finds ways to pull you off into one of your favorite corners of the world. This time, she pulled you away from home to bring you just outside of the city, to a tree sitting atop a hill. You made sure to tell her how much of a romantic she was for preparing a blanket and a few pillows for the two of you unlike the last few times. It didn't take long for you both to find yourself comfortable under the tree. Kassandra laid back against you as she sat between your legs. You couldn't ask for a more perfect place or position to be in.

You couldn't help but study every part of her that you could. You thought the way the setting sun casts its light made her glow in a way only the Gods are capable of. Every curve, both soft and harsh, on her face makes her look as if she was carved from stone- prepared to be the most beautiful statue on display wherever she is. Every strand of hair looks like the most perfect silk as it falls around her face.

Kassandra thinks the same, if not better, of you each time she looks at you. Every inch of your skin is perfect to her, softer than anything she has ever touch. Every time she looks into your eyes she can't help but find herself lost, wondering how you keep so much of her world trapped in such a simple gaze. The way you laugh and smile is enough to light up her life and make her forget it's getting dark out. She isn't able to describe the things she's willing to do for you.

It's all its own little bubble in the middle of the world, the air standing still as everything carries on around you. The only thing either of you focus on is your breathing, the way Kassandra rests against you, the comfort you have with your hands on her skin: all of it is more perfect than either of you could ask for. The way the shadows of the leaves fall over her shoulders and contour her every muscle and scar causes your eyes to roam. Nature seems to find a way to kiss her in every way you crave.

A finger traces up one of the long scars decorating her bicep. You sigh as you hug closer to Kassandra's back, smiling when she leans back in response. A small kiss is pressed to her shoulder while you hum, so very content in the moment. You can't help but smile at it all. The contact, the peace, the knowledge that you two will do this as many times as your lives allows.

"Y/N?"

The way she says your name pulls you out of the trance. Her eyes trace over your features as your face softens. Behind her eyes is all the love you've ever wanted to see. "Sorry, did you say something?" your voice is hardly over a whisper, smiling as she looks at you.

Kassandra removes your hand from her arm as she sits up a bit, giving it a squeeze. She laughs lightly- a sound that is nothing but pure perfection. "I asked if you were ready to return home," a playful eyebrow is raised while she looks at you. Even after all this time, being under her gaze still makes your breath catch and your heart start to speed.

You look out at the sky, the city cloaked in gold under the setting sun. You shake your head slightly, clearing your throat, "Not yet… It's hardly dark." You move to press a kiss to her shoulder. Kassandra only smiles and nods before returning to lay back against you. The way her body finds its way against yours is like two pieces of a puzzle connecting perfectly: a perfect fit and a perfect picture.

She runs a hand up and down your leg as she keeps her gaze forward. The city is starting to slow as night approaches. Lanterns are starting to be lit and taverns are starting to fill with people. Kassandra's eyes fall on the children returning home for the evening, parents standing in doorways as they wait for them to enter. Then she looks off to the couples walking the streets, young and old. She thinks about how she much prefers sitting here with you, in your own little place away from others.

A few moments of comfortable silence passes before Kassandra looks up at you and speaks. "Won't they be looking for you?" there's a teasing look on her face, "Are you sure you don't want to start heading home?"

You laugh lightly, resting your head onto her shoulder. "No, I want to stay here," you turn and press a kiss to her cheek, something she accepts with a soft smile. "We can stay here." With that, you both return to the your little paradise as you lay together. The sun isn't far from fully setting, but the night is far from over as long as you two are together. Your minds return to how perfect the other is, hands delicately caressing the other wherever they can, and, again, the only thing that matters is the bubble you two find yourself trapped in. As far as you're both concerned, nothing can make this night much more perfect.

I started work on the next chapter of Another Life, but made the mistake of poking through my WIP folder and… well. Now I’ve been completely sidetracked.

I’m building a one or two chapter fic (hopefully) on the bones of From the Darkness, Light - an old Brasidas x Deimos!Kassandra fic from 2021 that I never finished.

It’s coming along nicely and I should have something to share sometime next week [or sooner, if I decide to split it in two… but later, if it gets away from me, as my stories notoriously have in the past. I am hoping and praying it won’t be the latter.]
