Sesskik Weekend - Day 1: Regal
Here's my first entry for Sesskik Weekend! Fic chapter under the cut!
Also read in: FF.net//AO3
“Lord Jaken, does Lord Sesshomaru have other children?”
The question was casual, inane, easily answered with a straightforward ‘no’, but the imp demon ever proved incapable of exerting any manner of restraint when it came to personal questions about the great demon lord he served. He gasped, as though the young girl’s attempt to learn more about the stoic demon was unacceptable, and he eyed the child with pure outrage too, as though the implications of the possibility of Sesshomaru’s offspring were too affronting a concept to be conceived.
“What sort of question is that, Rin?!” Jaken exclaimed, shaking his two-headed staff inn her direction.
The child walking next to him, clearly, saw no threat in the imp’s actions, perfectly comfortable around his explosive reactions that were always more bark than bite. She marched next to Jaken as they followed Sesshomaru, with A-Un behind them as they progressed across a pristine forest, untarnished by the dark forces of Naraku’s taint. It was a beautiful place, of the sort Rin most enjoyed marauding through with her two companions. But as the child never held her tongue whenever any thoughts crossed her mind, it became clear that their perfectly peaceful morning would be disturbed by one of Jaken’s usual rants.
“Lord Sesshomaru is a great demon lord, and one as grand as he would never waste his time in innocuous concerns such as procreation with lesser beings, for no one in this wide world could ever hope to measure up to the greatness of Lord Sesshomaru! What could you possibly be thinking by asking such a question, you foolish girl?!”
“Lesser… beings? Procreation?” Rin repeated, puzzled. Jaken, unconcerned with the propriety of discussing such subjects with a human child as young as Rin, failed to understand that all such subjects were utterly foreign for the girl.
“No woman in this wide world could ever deserve Lord Sesshomaru’s attention, let alone his affection! He is far greater than any other great demon lord, and has no need to concern himself with petty, meaningless matters like offspring to further a legacy!” Jaken declared, proudly. “For a woman to become his wife, she would have to be a graceful, elegant, well-mannered and reputable maiden, competent on the battlefield and not getting in his way clumsily! She would have to share his goals, to earn his respect and prove herself a grand lady worthy of calling herself Lord Sesshomaru’s consort! In short, she would have to be… as regal, as dignified, as magnificent as Lord Sesshomaru himself!”
On and on he rambled, praising his liege lord with every breath he took… until Jaken’s feet, powering ever onwards, found him bumping face-first into Sesshomaru’s leg. He winced as he realized Sesshomaru had stopped walking abruptly, and Jaken froze on the spot: was he offended by his words somehow? What had he said that could be worthy of offense? He had praised him, as he ever did! There was no reason for Lord Sesshomaru to react adversely when…!
“Jaken,” Sesshomaru’s deep, stern voice rang in the meadow, his empty sleeve swaying in the wind. “Take Rin and hide.”
“E-eh?” Jaken blinked: were they in danger?
On cue, the perfectly peaceful forest saw itself disturbed immediately, deeply, by the arrival of a dark miasma: Jaken yelped, dragging Rin to hide behind a tree while Sesshomaru stepped forward, his hand on Tokijin’s hilt.
The creature entered his field of vision before long: the miasma that accompanied it, pouring from its open jaws and nostrils, seemed to rot the world around it. Its hide was thick and scaly, of a purple hue, while its eyes glowed red. Spikes protruded across its limbs and back as it crept towards Sesshomaru on all-fours, leaving a trail of rotting slime in its wake.
It was but vermin, easily disposed of. Sesshomaru clasped Tokijin firmly…
The sound of a bowstring snapping froze him on the spot.
He was familiar with the sound… though not quite as familiar with the sudden outpour of pure energy that accompanied the arrow.
The projectile flew seamlessly, striking the creature through the neck: on impact, the creature collapsed, its corpse’s corruption dwindling and fading under the extraordinary powers of purification that had struck it. Even the forest, temporarily marred by the corrupt energies of the creature, returned to a pristine state in a matter of instants as the powers of that single arrow smoothed over the dark energy until it faded from existence.
Sesshomaru frowned, lowering his hand. This presence… it wasn’t unknown to him, not entirely. He had sensed it before on occasion, typically if Inuyasha or Naraku were nearby. But as the latter had vanished beyond detection and there was no sign of the former, let alone of his rambunctious group, it seemed their encounter had been entirely casual: had they chosen to travel through the same locations in their respective journeys to track down the elusive, festering demon conjunction that called itself Naraku?
She stepped forward then, and his golden eyes met hers. She lowered her longbow, regarding him with her deep gaze, not hostile, not friendly either. Whether she had overstepped boundaries without knowing it, or if her choice to cut down the creature had been fair game in the great demon lord’s mind, she waited for Sesshomaru’s next move to decide her own.
He stepped towards her, unafraid, unyielding, unrelenting. The priestess didn’t draw another arrow. Instead, she studied him intently with her dark, intelligent eyes until he reached a halt, still at a safe distance from her, but now facing her directly.
“You seek Naraku,” Sesshomaru stated, without the necessary inflection in his tone to signal a question.
“As do you,” she answered, her voice serene and deep. “This should not be an impasse between us, should it?”
“The demon you’ve slain is vermin. It was not my quarry,” Sesshomaru answered, firmly. She nodded in his direction.
“It seemed unlikely that it would be. You would have slain it to protect those who travel with you, but perhaps it is for the best this way.”
Sesshomaru’s eyes narrowed. The priestess didn’t seem to expect him to take her words as insulting, trusting him to set aside his pride when it came to the slaying of that single demon: the voice of a laughing child reached Sesshomaru’s sensitive ears as Rin raced towards the area where the arrow lingered, still purging the area from the dark energies of the corrupt demon.
“Is it your nature to cut down every demon in your path?” he asked, not knowing why the question had spilled out of his mind and through his lips. The priestess studied him intently.
“Isn’t it yours, as well?” she inquired.
“I am a great demon. You are a priestess,” Sesshomaru remarked, simply. To his surprise, she smiled slightly at his statement.
“How odd,” she said. “Perhaps there is more purity to a great demon than I ever thought possible. You are the first of your station I have come across, after all.”
“Purity?” he repeated, with a skeptical scowl. She smiled and closed her eyes.
“I don’t aim to offend. There is less purity to me than there should be, ideally. One of your kind… surely you can sense my true nature, can you not?” she said. Sesshomaru frowned. “Pure has become impure, impure has now become pure. Good now has become bad, bad has become good. To live is to die, to die is to live. Such is the fate I have been burdened with”
She bowed her head in a display of respect in his direction, and she stepped away. Sesshomaru’s heart lurched as he felt the urge to raise a hand and reach for her… an urge he couldn’t comprehend. His sharp eyes fell upon the priestess’s figure, following her as she marched through the forest anew, purposeful, calm, unafraid. She knew her own power, just as she knew her vulnerabilities. She seemed to trust her strength... just as much as Sesshomaru trusted his own.
“L-Lord Sesshomaru, sir…!” Jaken squealed, rushing up to his liege lord at haste. “W-was that…?! Was it foul Inuyasha’s priestess, Kikyo?!”
“Do not utter that name before me, Jaken,” Sesshomaru snapped, and Jaken winced before clumsily covering his mouth with his hands. “One like her… belongs to no one.”
With that, Sesshomaru began walking too… on the same trail the priestess had vanished through, moments ago. Jaken froze, jaw dropped as Rin approached, beaming happily.
“Did you see, did you see, Lord Jaken?!” she exclaimed. “It was like you said! She was regal, like Lord Sesshomaru!”
“W-what did you say?! It’s… a priestess! A common-born human woman brought back in a vessel of…!”
Jaken fell silent instantly upon sensing a sharp glare from Sesshomaru, shot in his direction. The imp glanced at Sesshomaru warily a mere instant before hearing the words that always sent a terrifying, cold chill through his body:
“Jaken: be quiet.”
It almost felt as though his soul had left his body: why on earth had that woman showed up exactly when she had?! It was bad enough that Rin would be so nosy, attempting to find a mate for Sesshomaru that he never had needed… but now, it seemed that Sesshomaru himself deemed this woman worthy of not only a longer conversation than any he’d held with Jaken across the past months, but of far more attention and respect than he’d granted anyone else. That untrained priestess who traveled with Inuyasha only seemed to annoy him, so what was so different about this one…?
He wanted to tell himself there was no difference, that Sesshomaru’s choice to follow on the woman’s path was but a coincidence, and he would continue to tell himself as much across the coming days… but there was something in the air when, a mere few hours later, the footsteps of the great demon lord and the holy priestess brought them to march side by side, in respectful silence. It chilled Jaken to the bone, much as it overjoyed Rin… for, perhaps, Jaken’s words had been prophetic: it seemed that the woman walking beside Lord Sesshomaru now was, by Sesshomaru’s own judgment, as regal as he was.

one thing that always gets me whenever i read inuyasha modern au fics is that inuyasha is supposedly "the slacker" or the guy who doesn't try hard on anything academia related, and that always struck me as odd bc you're telling me inuyasha wouldn't be competing with, say, koga for rank 1? that he wouldn't study his ass off in the subjects he's actually interested in? that he wouldn't pour his everything into extracurriculars he cares about? he has his aloof moments in canon but ultimately he's a hard worker and i think that trait should be reflected in aus!
plus if we're thinking about the setting here, inuyasha's canon behavior is greatly influenced by his upbringing (and later lack thereof). putting him in an environment (modern au, lack of youkai discrimination) where his talents are cultivated instead of looked down upon would give us a very different character. it's always interesting to me whenever i see canon-typical inuyasha behavior in an au where his mom is alive because it suggests that his mistrust and gruff behavior are just part of his personality and not largely a result of childhood events. i feel like modern aus are an opportunity to see how he might have grown if not for the death of his mother + father & the consistent threat looming over him as a child. what would his personality be like then? how would his first meeting with kagome go considering that? his dynamics with his older brother? his goals? it's something that could be explored in a fic taking place in the feudal realm but it's kind of difficult to just subtract the discrimination aspect that comes with that setting...just things to think abt ig!

WIP Wednesday I guess??
“Hey Coquine, you ever gonna finish any of your unposted fic and maybe, yknow, share it?”
“Yep, definitely! Just gotta do this one thing first…!”
*starts writing a completely new WIP on her lunch break*
😅
Anyway…here’s what I got so far, please please be so so gentle with me I’m so very rusty.
Unmistakable (tentative title)
You ever look back over a series of events and can pinpoint all of the mistakes that were made to lead you to the point you were at now?
For the life of him, Inuyasha still couldn’t figure out HOW he’d gotten HERE.
Mistake number one was accepting Kagome’s murmured invitation to join her under the warm covers of her bed. Actually, the mistake was laying down next to her at all. Also for acquiescing her point that sleeping in just his inner hadagi would be more comfortable. Or even agreeing to stay the night in the first place.
Scratch that, mistake number one was definitely failing to lock her bedroom door earlier that evening, which would have prevented mood-killing younger brothers from barging in and interrupting Very Important Things. If they hadn’t made THAT mistake, then none of the rest would have happened. Inuyasha and Kagome would then have sealed their declarations with a proper kiss, and he could have gone back to the feudal era satisfied in where they stood and what the future might hold for them.
Instead, the rest of the evening spent with her family held a current of tension buzzing just under the surface of their skin, each glance in the other’s direction like a jolt to their auras, every incidental contact between them a spark. Unfinished business.
The other three Higurashis retired shortly after dinner, worn from their day trip. After a slightly awkward moment standing in the living room, Kagome made mention of having time to get a bit more studying done before going to bed, and asked Inuyasha if he’d rather head back now or later. “I’ll stay,” he replied simply, and followed her up the stairs.
To her credit, Kagome did in fact get a couple more chapters of her literature assignment read, but when faced with switching to her geometry homework, she threw in the towel. Swiveling around in her desk chair to face inuyasha where he sat on her bed, arms crossed and head tilted slightly downward, eyes closed, she huffed a laugh. “Okay, maybe I’m not as motivated as I thought.”
Looking up, Inuyasha smirked. “Lazy.”
“Ah! I am not!”
Before she could work herself into a tizzy Inuyasha waved his hand at her. “I know, I know, I’m just teasin’ ya.” He took a deep breath, glancing around the room. “Guess I’ll head back then,” he sighed, reluctance showing in every motion as he rose from her bed.
Before she could second guess herself, the invitation to postpone leaving until the morning was past her lips, a slow flush creeping up her cheeks. “I mean…if you’d like,” she finished lamely.
Wide-eyed, Inuyasha nodded slowly. “I’d like.”

fic writer meme!
thank you claire @microcomets and lore @megafaunatic for the tag!!!
1. How many works do you have on Ao3?
34 posted publicly, and a few more that are now on anon because i have disowned them
2. What's your total Ao3 word count?
427,315
3. What fandoms do you write for?
mostly danmei (currently a lot of liu yao, cancipin, and yuwu), but i'm excited to start branching out to other books if they catch my attention :')
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
in defense of lightning
between two lungs
blooming days
the rivers start to sing
shake the heavy
all are wangxian because i was regrettably a one trick pony for several years LOL
5. Do you respond to comments?
i fell out of answering comments in like 2022 and i've just never gotten back to it! i'm usually not sure what to say except thank you and i also get very self conscious. but i always read every single comment i receive, usually 5+ times because they're such a big confidence boost
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
i honestly don't think i've written anything super angsty! i don't like reading a lot of angst and so i cannot write it. but i guess losing all my senses every night has a vaguely angsty ending since it's a missing scene
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
most have happy endings!!! but i admit that the ending of i kneel into a dream still makes me do kicky feet a little bit
8. Do you get hate on fics?
a few times, but overwhelmingly the comments are so kind :')
9. Do you write smut?
yes! although it took me a while to get comfortable with it and also start to feel semi good at it
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you have written?
nope, and i'm not a big fan of them personally so i probably will never do so!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that i am aware of.......... knock on wood etc
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
back to my door has a russian tl!! that is the only one that i know about but i would be thrilled if that list expanded
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
lots of casual discord brainstorming but never a formal fic!
14. What's your all time favorite ship?
i honestly don't know if i have an all-time favorite! what i crave in a pairing can change from month to month or even day to day. all of the ships i've written for have a special place in my heart and have provided me with comfort at some point. but for the past year i've been very into mingqian and lulin, and for the past month-ish i've been REALLY fixated on lulin (lulin save me... lulin.... save me lulin)
15. What is a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
i started a follow-up/sequel to the soft animal but the inspiration has totally left me and i'm not sure if that wip will ever get resurrected </3
16. What are your writing strengths?
i think i'm really good at imagery and purple prose. which is not everyone's thing but EYE love purple prose, so,
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
action scenes!!!! and frankly smut scenes, which always take me 5x longer to write than dialogue or more plotty scenes. i've said it before but wangxian was my first time writing smut, and as an ace person it's still not something that comes easily to me.
18. Thoughts of writing dialogue in another language in fics?
most of my experience with this is in danmei, but i have always loved seeing chinese or diaspora fans integrate that into their fics! one day i'm going to write my locked tomb/sixth house fic and put latin in there because you know those people are unironically using latin in daily speech. this is my calling
19. First fandom you wrote for?
honestly i think it was inuyasha. never saw the light of day of course
20. Favorite fic you have written?
i've been REALLY pleased with my writing over the past few months, but i'm quite fond of portrait of gravity... mingqian banter is always so fun to write and it was surprisingly personally cathartic to write from the pov of acespec cheng qian. also i can reread it without wanting to singe my eyeballs, which is the norm for me upon rereading my own work
i tag @yuebings @dcyiyou @tantai-jin @perilously @arithmonym @hamburgergod and anyone else who wants to do this!!

20 Questions Game
Thanks for tagging me, @bronzeagepizzeria & @quite-right-too 🤩
How many works do you have on AO3?
28
2. What's your total AO3 words count?
892,591
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Doctor Who
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Bloodstream (Ten x Rose multi-chap)
Tiny Lights Below (Ten x Rose - Tentoo x Rose OT3)
For All We're Worth (Ten x Rose multi-chap)
Mending (Ten x Rose multi-chap)
The Doctor's Brilliant Idea (Ten x Rose multi-chap)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Always always always, but I have a horrible habit of getting behind on replying to them - usually because I'm busy when I get a comment and consistently forget to come back... Then suddenly there's a ton of them. This is a reminder to sit down and tackle my neglected comments, so thanks, thing.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Ordinary Gifts for sure.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I meannnn, all of my fics have at least mostly happy endings, as I'm a baby. But I'd probably say Bloodstream - just considering the odds that have to be overcome to get there.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Never had until my goddamn Martha fic. But thankfully, the hate was on the latter pairing, not my writing. That's the only solace I took from that (along with some badass readers who defended me to a handful of lunatics).
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
I write all of the smut! Lengthy, graphic, emotional 'first time' scenes, as well as all subsequent smut. I have a very, very difficult time skipping over sex (have only done it once to date, and intend to write a separate fic to cover the smut I skipped 💀) and will never skip the first time.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
No, never have.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nope, thank god.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Somebody translated Bloodstream into Russian, which was fucking cool.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I'm doing it right now with @bronzeagepizzeria and my excitement knows no bounds.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
TenRose/TentooRose, of course.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Had an idea for a fic inspired by To Have and Not Hold by mtemplar, but have never opened the lil WIP again, and that was over a year ago.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Smut?
Also, not sure if this counts - but I'm a perfectionist about my writing. I'm constantly, obsessively rereading, which I do both as I go and when everything is finished. Making alterations, amending this or that, punching up, rewriting/removing whole scenes etc... But I still, of course, make some mistakes here and there.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I write way too goddamn much. Way too much positive reinforcement in the comments of my first fic gave me a weird perma-complex where I don't even feel like a chapter is complete until it's around 10k, which is insane. Somebody save me. This is a serious problem.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I personally don't do it - I'd rather allude to it. For example, from my fic Exposure, since I guess I'm just going all in with this goddamn questionnaire:
He murmurs something soft, something gorgeous, but Rose has got no idea what it is— only that it's far too structured to be sleepy gibberish. There's an almost-Italian-but-also-sort-of-Arabic resonance to it, yet entirely unique; something she can't even pretend to know how to accurately describe.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
The first actual fic I ever wrote was for the Russian girl group t.A.T.u in either 2003 or 2004, but I wrote it at school during 'reading time' in Language Arts. It never saw the light of day anywhere.
The first proper fic I actually wrote, finished, and posted completely was for my first feral fixation ship, Inu/Kag (Inuyasha) back in 2005.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
I fucking hate this question, but probably For All We're Worth or The Purpose of Repose

Tagged by @miss-ingno - I was certain I did this twice already, but I cannot for the life of me find these posts for some reason, so I shall reply again 😅 Thanks for the tag!
How many works do you have on AO3? 150
What's your total AO3 word count? 1,284,770
What fandoms do you write for? recently I used to write the most to Guardian and Weilan derivatives (Luolin!~) but I am slowly and surely slowing down on writing altogether
What are your top 5 fics by kudos? skipping that one, I am certain I answered this one around five times and the answer is still the same. I can say that my most kudosed work is at 1,220, because I think this is the only new info I can offer on the topic.
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I love writing comments and responding to them, no matter how much time passed! It's great to get a comment on something I posted around 10 years ago and remember what I thought about, how I saw that ship back then, and all that, plus sometimes people simply share their thoughts about the canon work itself in the comments and I love to have discussions with people I would not meet otherwise.
What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? eh, idk? My angst-meter is broken, so I cannot discern what is the saddest thing I committed. Probably either Unceasing Path (Luolin) or When I Make an Oath to the Flames (Weilan), but I don't know really.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? well, not sure at all either. But I think the Grindeldore series?
Do you get hate on fics? More like hate on me personally, but not often, thankfully
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I don't. Usually the story I want to tell doesn't need any sex scenes, because the emotions that would come up in those were already explored earlier, in a different way, and I do find them boring, so why force myself.
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Oh, I absolutely do and I enjoy them both in reading and in writing. Weilan derivs are crossovers already, so I've written quite a lot of those. I think the craziest crossovers I've written are also the ones I will not publish, so I shall remain silent 😆
Have you ever had a fic stolen? not all of it, just ideas and scenes
Have you ever co-written a fic before? YES! And I love the experience!
What's your all-time favorite ship? No idea, any time I find a new ship I adore it pretty much looks like this:
Tumblr media
What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? I have only one WIP in the works and I am pretty sure I will finish it, as for the rest - I only have ideas and I might end up abandoning them and never doing anything about them, so not exactly WIPs, are they
What are your writing strengths? I guess variety? I like changing genres and styles, to have fun with POVs and different settings?
What are your writing weaknesses? I am rather careless, keep on making typos, changing my idea of a sentence after writing half of it, forgetting which version of the plot I am ultimately going with, so I am a mess that keeps on updating stories years after publishing them because I spotted yet another typo while scrolling through them.
First fandom you wrote for? Inuyasha, an OC that was the main hero's half-sister, trying to fit into the family after realising she has it. It was a gen fic, surprise, surprise, and it ended up in a crossover with another girl running an Inuyasha blog - our respective characters made guest appearances in our stories. It was fun.
Favorite fic you've written? No idea. Really, depends on the mood, I sometimes think I did a good job with something, other times I decide everything I've written is terrible in new, exciting ways
Apologies for the short answers, I am truly out of my writing era 😅
Not tagging anyone because I am certain I did this tag twice so I probably would end up tagging the same people all over again, so if someone is reading this and would like to share, I would be very happy to read the replies (tag me please, so I can see), but no pressure~

Thanks @inaconstantstateofchange for the tag!
1. Three Ships: Astarion/Nym/Raphael, Zelda and Link in BotW/TotK, Harley Quinn/Poison Ivy.
2. First Ever Ship: Seto Kaiba/Serenity Wheeler from YuGiOh in terms of my conception of shipping. And then first ship I ever created content for was Sesshomaru/Kagome from Inuyasha.
3. Last Song: Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman. One of my favorite songs, never fails to get my blood pumping. Also certain lyrics make me think of Raphael/my Tav’s.
4. Last Film: Technically Pulse/Kairo by Kurosawa Kiyoshi for my final paper for one of my classes. The last film I watched just for entertainment was John Carpenter’s The Thing. Practical effects my beloved.
5. Currently Reading: Mostly just Raphael x Tav (x Haarlep) fics I find on Ao3 or on here. I’m horribly behind on my book reading.
6. Currently Watching: Just finished rewatching Hbomberguy’s plagiarism video and before that a rewatch of Lindsay Ellis’ Love Never Dies video. Oh and Columbo, one of my favorite tv shows.
7. Currently Consuming: Soon gonna have some pizza, once I get myself ready, lol.
8. Currently Craving: Idk, probably fish. But only because I always lowkey crave fish.
Tagging @int9 @kiss-inferna @red-dead-sakharine @meowsaidmissy and whoever else wants to do it!

Tumblr media
Crickets chirped and the wind blew as Kagome made her way to her home that didn't feel like home. No, nothing was quite right anymore.
Three years had passed since Narakus defeat. Three years since she was trapped in the Shikon jewel. Three years since she was tricked into returning to the future, her present.
After graduation, her friends tried so hard to help her be happy again. She had to give them that. But they didn't understand. No one did. How could they?
During her time away, Kagome had changed. No longer the naive and trusting girl she once was, now she was simply traumatized.
Depression was never a word she would have associated with herself, but that was the only way to describe the way she felt.
At one time she held onto hope that an older InuYasha would one day appear. But then she remembered, in her time, there were no yokai. He was gone. She would be forever doomed to live in a world without the four people she cared most about. That thought alone kept her awake at night. Sango, Shippo, Miroku, InuYasha. They were long dead in her time and she didn't even know how they'd fared.
Did Sango and Miroku ever get married? Did Shippo get his nine tails? Did InuYasha find a home? Did they miss her as they aged and passed on?
Questions she would never get answers to plagued Kagome to no end. She didn't even know where they were buried, though she suspected it was somewhere on her shrines property.
That was the silver lining in her mind. Her shrine, her home, had once been the burial ground of the village from five hundred years in the past. The village that grew and expanded to become the Tokyo of the new millennium.
It was with that thought that Kagome held onto as she entered the part of the shrine that held the bone eaters well, completely unaware of the three sets of eyes following her.
_____
"She's getting worse." The cracking voice of a teenaged Sota whispered. Just because he was six years younger than his sister didn't mean he didn't understand her feelings.
He loved his sister as much as a brother could. She was his hero, brave, confident, and honorable. Seeing her this way was killing him slowly and he didn't think he could handle seeing Kagome hurt for much longer.
"I know." His mother was just as concerned, if not more. Her daughter had always been such a cheerful girl, but after her last return, something changed.
She knew Kagome had played a hand in countless yokai deaths. That she had seen things, lived through a war and won. But she never could get her daughter to tell her just what happened in those three terrifying days.
Kagome wasn't the same anymore. This world filled with people and technology wasn't suited for her anymore.
"Do you think she'll go back?"
"The portal has been closed for years, Sota." That sad reality was one her daughter was faced with. For all intents and purposes, four of the people closest to her had died the day the well sealed shut. "I don't think she can ever go back."
"Jii-chan said she will go back." His mother's shocked look brought nothing more than a shrug from the teen as He looked toward the shrine that housed both the well and his sister's sorrow. "He doesn't know when it'll happen, but he's certain the old stories about the Miko and the Yokai are about Kagome & InuYasha."
It was a bittersweet feeling, but their mother knew what needed to happen. Kagome didn't belong here anymore. She would have to let her daughter go if she ever wanted her to find happiness. Perhaps destiny had been in play since the morning her baby girl was born. If so, who was she to try and stop destiny? "Then we should help her prepare."
_____
Did the well stop working, because I was afraid to go back? When the well closed and I was alone in the darkness, I was so scared and sad.
I didn't realize that I had been in the darkness for three whole days. I made Mom, Sota, and Jii-chan as sad and scared as I was. I felt bad about that, and was so happy to be back here.
But then the well closed and I was left alone again.
InuYasha?
I've been thinking this whole time about the reason I was sent to the feudal era and the reason the bone eaters well stopped working when the Shikon jewel was destroyed.
My job in that time is done and now I must live my life in my own world. A world without you.
But, InuYasha, I need to see you again.
The feeling of the wind was the first thing she noticed. Soon hearing the chirping of birds, Kagome slowly opened her tear soaked eyes. A small gasp escaped her lips when, instead of the dirt and bones she normally saw, Kagome saw a blue sky filled with puffy white clouds.
She momentarily wondered if she was dreaming when she felt a soft touch on her shoulder and heard the soothing tone of her mother's soft voice. "Kagome sweety, what is it?"
"Mamma." Looking at the mix of emotions on her daughter's face, she already knew what was happening even before it was said. "The well… it's, it's open again."
She could tell Kagome wanted nothing more than to jump headfirst into the past, but her fear was holding her back. Fear of what may happen if she returns. Fear of disappointing her family. Fear that InuYasha was long gone..."Jii-chan and Sota told me this would happen."
"What?" The mix of emotions suddenly vanished to be replaced by simple shock. "How did they…"
"I would have thought you had learned by now, your grandfather's stories aren't just tall tales." She couldn't help letting loose small chuckle at her daughter's expense. It was true though.
Before Kagome had been dragged into the bone eaters well, she never believed a word of her Jii-chans stories. She disregarded his gifts and laughed at his offerings.
Eventually, after her return, she had locked herself into the shrine with the old man and told him everything that had happened in her two year journey. She apologized and begged to be taught more about shrine duties.
She had grown so much. "It's ok Kagome."
Before her daughter could speak, fast paced footsteps could be heard dashing down the stairs. "Yeah sis! We knew this was coming, we even packed some stuff for you!"
A less hyper set of footsteps came to a stop as Kagome stared in awe. "Sota? Jii-chan? How…"
"I'm the keeper of this shrines history girl!" The old man cane off rough, but Kagome could tell by the look in his eyes that he was just trying to keep himself From breaking down. This was hard for him, to say goodbye. But it was meant to be and it is what she wanted so he'd gladly take whatever pain was necessary on her behalf. "From the minute you first returned with InuYasha close behind, I knew one day you'd leave us to be the heroine of our past."
Stepping next to their grandfather, Sota, fighting his own tears, gave her a goofy grin. "InuYasha will take good care of you sis, just don't forget about us ok."
"Sota!" Falling to her knees, Kagome wrapped her arms around her younger brother and held tight. "I love you ototo. Take care of mom ok?"
With a firm nod, the thirteen year old stepped to his mother's side and began tossing several large duffel bags into the well. Her grandfather smiled broadly and hugged his granddaughter tight for the last time. "You will live long and well. There will be many trials and tribulations, but as long as you hold on to the faith you have in that boy, you'll be ok. Live well my sweet girl."
Stepping back, Kagome accepted a mysterious small trunk from him and turned back toward the well. Each step brought her closer to the dream she'd had for three years but she faltered at the last step. Glancing back over her shoulder with tears in her eyes, Kagome knew she was saying goodbye forever. "I love you all so much. Thank you for understanding." Shooting them a final smile, she clutched the black and gold trunk in her arms and jumped.
_____
It had been as much of a normal day as the white haired hanyu could get. The morning sun was beating on his back as he left Miroku and Sangos hut after sharing breakfast with the couple. Shippo followed behind in silence as he walked through the forest that had once been his prison, now dubbed his lands by the village.
It had become a sort of ritual for them. Rise with the sun, breakfast with Sango and Miroku, then to the Goshinboku to beg before checking the bone eaters well and checking on Kaede & Rin. When they arrived at the clearing that once held the portal to the future, InuYasha didn't expect much.
It wasn't that he'd given up hope, more like, he had come to terms with his fate. Kikyo had never loved him but he chased her around at every corner, abandoning Kagome more than once to chase the ghost of his past.
He had caused so much pain, he hurt Kagome so much that he knew this was his karma for treating her so badly. Maybe it was time he stopped coming. It's not like the Kami would answer the call of a hanyu anyway.
He had never wished to be human, but if he could have put this karma off until the next lifetime, he would gladly trade his demon blood. If only to see her one more time.
While InuYasha lost himself in his thoughts, Shippo stood fidgeting at the foot of the well waiting. He would never admit it, but every time InuYasha reached in the well only to come up empty handed, it broke the little kits spirit.
He missed Kagome. But he knew he couldn't take the visits anymore. Shippo would tell InuYasha that he would have to start coming alone to wait at the well as soon as he watched one last time.
Coming back to reality, InuYasha looked at the young kitsune for a moment. He looked conflicted, like he wanted to get something off his chest. But when he finally opened his mouth to speak, his eyes grew wide and he rushed to the wells edge.
Holding his breath and silently begging, InuYasha reached his hand into the well. Waiting. A few moments passed and nothing happened, just like every day for the last three years.
Damning his own nose for playing tricks, InuYasha removed his hand and sighed. With a nod of his head he turned to walk away when he heard a loud thunk.
Slowly, as if afraid of what he might see, InuYasha turned back as the second thunk hit. Confusion overtook him when he saw two giant bags in front of the well. Before he could investigate, he had to back up as three more giant bags came out of the well landing at his feet.
Terrified of false hope, he reached back into the well one last time. But this time, instead of a lonely emptiness, he felt the brush of fingertips. With one tug there, she was.

Shipper Tag Game
Thank you for tagging me darling @the-marron !! I haven't even really thought about some of these questions so this was super fun <3
1. What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care about anymore?
Looking back, probably any of my favorite ships from Rurouni Kenshin (for obvious reasons). I distinctly remember being very obsessed with Aoshi/Misao and Saitou/Sanosuke
Other than that, my many favorite ships from teen-ager-times still have a place in my heart, and if I'm struggling for something to read, I'll still peek in on their ao3 pages :)
2. Which ship would you consider your first one?
Something from InuYasha probably. Sango/Miroku? Sango/Kagome? Sesshomaru/Rin? Or maybe something from Pirates of the Caribbean like Norrington/Elizabeth or Jack/Will. The thing about "shipping" is that I would absolutely love fictional relationships, but never really "fandomized" about them until I was a teenager, so I can't really say what my first real ship was, just because there were always movies and books I was reading and thinking "Wow! I wish I could see more of these two!" (Athos and D'Artagnan for instance, or Legolas and Gimli) but I was so young that romance didn't really exist for me, it was more about the dynamics
3. Your first fanfic was about which couple?
The first fanfic I ever wrote? No idea. I would be writing all sorts of horribly grammatically incorrect little scenarios in my first (very ancient) computer's notes program - and I can't even remember which of them I published on ff.net. But it was probably something InuYasha - probably just the canon pairings.
The first fanfic I ever read was SasuNaru: it was published on DeviantArt of all places, written like a filler beach episode and I remember thinking it sounded really nice to be eating watermelon on the beach together.
4. Do you remember the first couple you saw fanart of?
Not even the foggiest idea.
5. Have you ever gotten into ship discourse?
Maybe? I advocate for the "ship and let ship" lifestyle and I've had people getting annoyed with me for that, complaining that what I was shipping was not canon or disrespectful to the author (once in the discord FOR lovers of that ship, mind you!)
6. Did you use to have any NOTP or have one currently?
My rule is never say never. There are some pairings I've never seen well done, but if I do see something good, I'll be converted.
7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read?
Fitzier 🫣
8. Currently, do you have any OTPs?
See, as a multi-shipper, it's hard for me to have an OTP at all. Like ever. If I like a character, I'm interested in their dynamic with lots of different characters. And even with crack pairs, if I see a beautiful fanart or a well-written fic, or even someone explaining the pair in a way that clicks for me, I'm down.
9. Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together?
Not really. Canon is canon, fandom is fandom. There are a few that I've thought it would be nice if they got together onscreen/on the page but never got angry if they didn't.
10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting?
Among many, I would say probably XueXiao. I was absolutely shocked that they got shipped at all - but then I re-read the novel and was like: "Oh. No, yeah, I get it now." Like, I'm not obsessed or anything, but I am compelled by it.
11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, would've been considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?
Everything I have ever shipped in the history of ever, you mean? I love a good age-gap, or an enemies-to-lovers, or some power dynamic play, or even some angsty incest stories, or vicious hatefucking, or dub-con, or---
...You get the idea.
12. What is your favorite crack ship?
Unfortunately, I can't answer the question due to at least half of my ships being crackships. They are from completely different media? Check. They are from the same media but have never once interacted? Check. They have excellent chemistry and a fantastic dynamic but are very unpopular in fandom for whatever reason? Check.
13. What is the couple you read the most fanfics about?
It comes in waves. Sometimes I'm in a sci-fi alien romance mood so I'll head over the Star Trek and B5 route (and read the same G'Kar/Londo fics or Kirk/Spock fics over and over again and cry myself to sleep.) Sometimes my friend writes something for a pairing I've completely forgotten about and I suddenly have to re-read everything they've ever written. Sometimes, I get into a piece of media and have to trawl ao3 for EVERYTHING (within certain parameters) of a certain pair that caught my eye.
14. What do most of your ships usually have in common?
Chemistry. Some kind of ability to constantly bounce off of one another - a constant give and take of meaning and expression.
Unless they can talk with/at each other for hours until they run out of breath and pass out, I'm not as interested. There needs to be banter, no matter if light-hearted or with deeper undertones. They just need to be able to talk to each other, even if most of the conversation is clever obfuscation of what they really mean.
15. What you absolutely hate in a ship?
Anything boring tbh. Oh, they're high-schoolers who are childhood friends and now they're holding hands and blushing? I don't care. Oh, they're planning a seaside wedding and nothing bad has ever happened, ever, and they love one another peacefully? YAWN. Oh, they're sitting down and having a talk about their feelings that sounds like it's come out of a the most recent therapy how-to booklet? Kill me immediately.
Give me adventure! Conflict! Chaos! Even just petty issues! PLEASE! I need these people to be doing something!
This has been very fun!
I'm tagging @elemental-queen-writes @polkadotcravat @bobafvcks @themurdochmemesteries AND anyone who wants to do this!

For the ask game, 🔪, ❄️ and 🦴 :3
ask game
❄️ ⇢ what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?
ohh ok this is hard. A dream theme would probably be a good mystery I can't start piecing together or a horror novel that scares me. For mystery I oddly enough think Brandon Sanderson would be good. I've been unable to predict things moving forward in the Stormlight Archives. But honestly I think it would be written best by someone who hasn't even tried before. There's a way of placing clues in a mystery I feel a lot of people follow. Most of the time those clues placed by someone new wouldn't have the same easy to tell hints and tips.
For horror I kind of am expecting Lydia Prime to do it. She's a newer author on the horror scene (actually have a book she just managed to publish I plan to pick up). I also some comedians would be good at it. Comedy is kind of the other side, takes a lot to do it. I don't know who would be best for this outside of like a pro author. I'm pretty hard to scare, make a habit of marathoning horror games and horror movies just because. That does mean I get psyched to read any horror sent my way that might be good!
For a dream plot it's kinda hard to say. I know how my brain works, but honestly even if i'm not super into it I just like seeing people posting/sharing the stuff they put their time into. It's so scary to take that first step so it's really amazing when someone does and they keep going.
🦴 ⇢ is there a piece of media that inspires your writing?
Ok so this one is kind of a lot. For some of my stories it's probably some myth, post, or my own daydream mixed from anime/games/books throughout the years.
Specific media would be MTG Streets of New Capenna set (Mafia AU), Fenyx Rising (Delphia rising), FF14 (some fanfics and an au i am working on), Oddly enough a story I have on and off struggled with was inspired by a yugioh series, Godzilla vs Kong (the fight for Rhys and Felix in mafia au). My gods might have been inspired by the old hercules disney movie.
Oh Delphia is a bit inspired by an Kagome in Inuyasha (got me looking into reincarnation). oh and a book series I read forever and ever ago. The Eternal Ones by Kirsten Miller. (I went to my bookshelf to find this title.)
I also do love mythology and folklore so I'm sure that's a big inspiration even if it's not obvious. (obsessed with fairies since I was like born. My sister can't even remember a time i wasn't).
Basically it's everything? I have a few characters I've realized over time fit a meme a little or i put together match someone i loved from a game.
Oh last one I can think of. Alice in Wonderland. I loved that from the disney movie, to the books, to the manga based in it, to the new tim burton movies. Pretty much the only time I haven't liked it was in RWBY 😅
🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project? I feel weird leaving this one out in the open, but like also it's not exactly nsfw. just a little insight into my weird thought process at times
ok so originally it was gonna be the general size of a dick/vagina of the average person to then do the ratio for how big it should be for a giant/how small for a tiny. In searching for this math (cause ofc i only shared it on discord) I realized i had an entire discussion that involved at least a little research where i determined it's incredibly viable that if giants and tinies are under the same homo species it would possible to successfully get pregnant in a multisize couple with the question being the survival rate of the child/birth parent dependent on a number of factors....
I used the dick knowledge in one (1) specific story i wrote on ao3. The pregnancy knowledge was lost until now.
Most likely to get me arrested was how much a person could move after a stab wound
for those curious this was the percentages i came up with are under the cut
balls: 2.7% of total height per ball dick: 6.9% of total height pussy opening: 4.8% of total height pussy depth: 6.3% of total height

FanFiction ask game 18, 20, 24, 43 please 🙂
Hi Liz!!!
18. Do you enjoy research? Which fic of yours required the most research?
Not really 😅. I actually go out of my way to write most of my stories in settings I already am very familiar with, or make it a total fantasy version of a real place so that I can kind of make up my own rules/explanations for things. If I'm going to write a story in a real-life setting that I don't know much about, I would want to make it as accurate as possible, which means I would have to spend tons of time on research when I'd rather just be writing. Under the Northern Lights involved SO much research, because I've never been to Alaska before and most of the plot was centered around InuKag traveling to specific locations within Alaska. So I had to research driving times, weather patterns, the lengths of certain trails and what they look like, and much much more 😵‍💫. I was so engrossed in that story that I didn't mind too too much, and Jane (goshinote) helped with some of it, but I don't think I'd want to do that again.
20. Do you prefer writing AUs or canon fics?
When I first joined the fandom, I was only interested in reading/writing canon fics. I don't think I had really read AU fanfiction before, so I didn't "get" it. But then I read a few and was like ohhhhh this is why everyone loves these so much! And have been a fan ever since. I think at this point I prefer writing AUs because you get a lot more creative freedom to come up with your own world, and it's a fun challenge to imagine how these established characters would react in totally different scenarios. But it's kind of my dream to write an epic length canon-based fic because I love reading them so much. I just haven't had any ideas whatsoever for something like that...hopefully one day!
24. How do you choose whose POV to write in?
I...don't choose 😂. I know that "head-hopping" is sometimes frowned upon, but I typically always write in both Inuyasha and Kagome's POV, often flowing between them within a scene/chapter. My writing is really emotion-heavy, so I like to get in their heads and dig deep into what they're feeling. I've been trying to challenge myself with some of my WIPs to at least just stick to one POV per chapter, but I've already found myself breaking that a bit. I honestly think it would be difficult for me to write a whole story in just one POV, but I'd like to do it at some point.
43. Is there a trope or idea that you'd really like to write but haven't yet?
I mentioned above that I'd really love to write some kind of epic canon-divergent or post-canon story, but other than that I want to write a royalty AU. I have one "started"...as in, I jotted down a couple scene ideas and have thought about it a lot but haven't really started writing it. I'm trying to focus on actually finishing my two WIPs that I've been working on for over 2 years...but once those are posted I'll probably put most of my focus on the royalty AU.
Thank you so much again for the asks @liz8080 !! You're the best🥰

20 Questions for Fic Writers
I was tagged by @pilesofpillows 😙
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Four works so far but hoping to add more since I have a lot more fics written I've never published.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
Wow I didn't even know this was a thing! Had to look up how to find it. My total Ao3 word count is 182,483 words.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
My current works are for Black Panther but I plan to write a oneshot for MCU's Secret Invasion show because I liked Gravik and thought he was hot (I like the skrull in general lol). But I also have pretty long and large fics for Netflix's 2017 movie "Bright" that I want to upload as well. There are other fandoms too but they escape me atm.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
I only have four fics up and one of them is brand new so 😅
Winter Moon
Mount Jabari
If The Shoe Fits
Incubus
In that order. You can find a link to my fics for both tumblr and Ao3 here
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Absolutely! I love talking to the people reading my stuff and want them to know that their comments are appreciated and often keep me motivated to write more 😁Love you guys! 💕
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hmmm, I guess that would be If The Shoe Fits. There's a planned part two that might negate this answer though.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Mount Jabari 🤣Reader was very happy at the end of that fic.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I did on Winter Moon but I don't particularly care about the opinions of someone whose intentions are to be intentionally dismissive and negative so the comments the person received in return were likely not what they had wanted 💀
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Absolutely yes. Bring me the SMUT! Right now! I will write it for you if you don't.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Nah, never did a crossover and not really a fan of them. However when I was still really young there was a gigantic, kind of OOC crossover fic with a bunch of popular anime from the 90s/2000s called Otherworld and I used to read that like it was the bible. It inspired me to do my own first fanfics. There were like 9 books to that story and multiple oneshots and short stories that tied the characters together and everything.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I am aware... and anyone who tries it....
Tumblr media
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not publicly, but I have gotten a comment that someone loves my story so much that they translate every chapter so that they could read it properly and it made me so happy 😭❤💕
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope! But I do love giving other authors ideas and vice versa. I think it helps people think outside the box when they brainstorm with friends.
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
I'm going to say Attoye from Black Panther for now? I was never that big of a "shipping" person in fandoms but I definitely enjoy Attoye enough to say I ship them. I also like Nashuri and Killmora.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Nothing atm. I tend to work on stories in order of inspiration and importance. I don't publish things I'm not willing to commit time to at some point.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I'm not sure exactly. I've been told that I write very descriptively and that it can paint a vivid picture of scenarios and characters, so I'll go with that.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Fluff and filler. I don't dislike fluff completely but I tend to write it as realistically as possible because trying to imagine people being that super ooey gooey makes me wanna gag and cringe lmfao
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I do it only when necessary for the simple fact that having to provide translations for entire scenes of dialogue gets tiresome and tricky.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Inuyasha in middle school💀
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
It doesn't have a name but like I said above, it was definitely Inuyasha and or anime related.
No pressure tagging: @karisomk, @megamindsecretlair, @mamajankyy, @mickimomo and anyone else who see this and would like to participate!

Advice from a Writing Veteran
I’ve been writing Inuyasha fic for over 2 years now. It started as a really wonderful escape from the pandemic and has served as my creative outlet, and I’m still going strong!
So I wanted to offer a couple of nuggets of wisdom gleaned from a writer with over a hundred stories and 20 ships that I hope will offer some small amount of reassurance to everyone who puts words into a doc then shares them with the world.
1 - Replying to comments begets more comments Let’s say you want to write a story, and want to post it to AO3. It feels wonderful getting comments from people who enjoyed this thing you made for them all. I always love seeing that Inbox (1) on my dashboard for AO3.
This might not be able to start the flow of comments, but it will keep it going, and that is... reply to the comments. Especially if you can reply to them in a way that is heartfelt that is conversational. It makes that person who was maybe apprehensive think “oh! this person liked my comment! i will write more!” And that new commenter may now write comments on more of your fics and chapters going forward!
2 - Ships Reign Supreme I’m going to go out on a limb and say that my writing style and quality don’t change a whole bunch from ship to ship, so things like kudos on stories I’ve written have been able to tell me a lot about writing for fandoms.
If you write a rarepair, even if it is the most profound and exciting thing you’ve ever written, it will probably get a lot less engagement than the popular ships. So never beat yourself up if you created a thing that people didn’t vibe with. It’s part of writing.
Additionally, the people who follow you often have followed you because you write a specific ship they like. It means that, at least at first, jumping ship to a different popular ship is not going to have the engagement necessarily follow. That’s okay and keep at it!
3 - There absolutely is a zeitgeist, but chasing it can be futile I honestly never know which one of my stories is going to resonate with people. Some I adored and really thought would touch people fell sort of flat, and that’s okay! There is absolutely a measure of “what people want to read” that goes into which stories get popular, but from experience you really can never predict what it’s going to be. Yes, a popular ship that is smutty (especially in Inuyasha) has a pretty high chance of being better received than a dark MCD fic, but honestly, it’s hard to tell.
4 - People really do like completed fics. Yeah.... I have a backyard full of an unnatural number of plot bunnies I want to round up. It’s what’s fun about writing, letting your mind fold around something new and exciting and live in the scenario of your making. But there are a lot of people who won’t start reading your work until it’s got that ✅ down on the lower right on AO3. Never feel ashamed if you don’t get there, because writing should be about you, but it’s important to be 💯 and say that writing incompletes will somewhat lessen your audience.
5 - Write what sparks joy No one on earth can perfectly predict the zeitgeist, write impossibly perfect stories over and over and over inside of the audience’s preferred ship. So chasing after it is just going to dishearten you. Instead, it always feels better to write for yourself. Which plot bunny is the fluffiest and cutest plot bunny in your backyard? That’s the one you write. You know why? Because people can tell when you had fun writing a thing. It somehow manifests in your writing. And writing that is fun. Even a MCD ultra rarepair with a hated character written because you love writing that will bring people who find it and read it with the same joy it brought you writing it.
I’m not saying "only write for yourself,” because that’s dishonest. It feels wonderful for someone to love what you poured a piece of yourself into, and it’s okay to want that. But... it feels a whole lot better getting that when the thing you made was made because you loved it.
6 - Try to ignore the trolls I don’t know what is happening or why, but the number of mean-spirited comments that people are getting has been going up. The internet is a cesspool and all that. The people who leave comments like that on your stories are not people deserving of your attention. They’re people who can’t do it themselves so they tear others down because they can’t click a Back button.
7 - Build a support crew This is the last piece of advice. Find friends who will read your stuff and give you what you need. Are you someone who does this to smile and needs someone to cheerlead and encourage you on? Heck yesss!!! There are absolutely people who would love to do that for you. Are you someone who wants to improve your craft and needs honest advice on how to get better? Those people exist too. Find them. It might take some looking, and you may want to think about what you will do in return, but finding your people means... having a crew who will read your MCD rarepair and encourage you on. They will lament the zeitgeist getting really really into sex pollen (which you totally don’t get), they will help you find the ending to that incomplete fic you want to complete, and they will help you remember that writing is fun... (oh and probably help you put the comments by the trolls into perspective and reassurance.) Heck, maybe one of those precious wonderful commenters (who you are now replying to!) is an excellent place to start!
Writing is so much fun, and it’s made more fun to get to live in these universes with our friends. I hope you all do wonderful things with your writing, whether that’s writing the next big popular fic in your fandom, whether that’s a crackfic drabble, whether that’s a single scene that you just want to write until you get there. All of these things will find someone that they touch. Thank you for writing and putting these great things out into the world.
From, Neutron

Ao3 20 questions!
Tagged by: @azures-grace I tag: @bamsara @argisthebulwark and anyone else! (I can't remember who writes solely on Tumblr or not, sorry for not tagging you if you do write on Ao3 as well!!)
1 – How many works do you have on AO3?
-Currently 16.
2 – What's your total AO3 word count?
-Currently 800,424. (Will change for sure on the 15th haha.)
3 – What fandoms do you write for?
-Skyrim, Five Nights at Freddy's / Security Breach, Undertale, Divinity Original Sin 2, and Baldur's Gate 3.
4 – What are your top five fics by kudos?
-Precious People, Four Makes a Family, That Little Thread, My Neighbor Mr. Roboto, and Forgive Me, for I Have Sinned. (Greatest to least in the top five.)
5 – Do you respond to comments?
-I try to respond to every comment I can, but some I just don't know how to respond to! I'm mentally kissing every commenter on the head though. Mwah.
6 – What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
-Angstiest ending? I don't know if I've ended anything super angsty, despite my love for the genre. I prefer hurt/comfort. Can't say I can answer this one.
7 – What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
-Oh, That Little Thread for sure. But only because TESSDE isn't remotely finished haha. But I'm still very proud of how TLT came out. :)
8 – Do you get hate on fics?
-I have had a stray hate comment here and there, but I just meme and dab on the haters until they die from their own cringeness. #HatersLoveMe
9 – Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
-...The smut kind? I'm not sure I understand. Read 'You're a Feisty One, Aren't You? I Like That', if you need specifics, I guess. (Only if you are above age obviously.)
10 – Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
-Oh my god I used to on FFNET. I don't think it's crazy, but even before I discovered FFNET, my friend got me into writing crossovers, and it was a massive Inuyasha, Fruits Basket, Code Geass, and Death Note combination with self inserts. I miss it, it was a good stupid time, haha.
11 – Have you ever had a fic stolen?
-I've had people try to tell me they can't get writing down correctly, and oh, would you mind helping me write this out? What about this? Until slowly I'm literally writing their story and they're POSTING IT ONLINE. ON Ao3/FFNET. LIKE. A PARAGRAPH AT A TIME.
INSANITY.
But also I was one of the first few people who had the Ao3 scalpers target their fics, but I have no idea if someone is out there on Wattpad or something using my shit. I don't self search, so I do not know.
12 – Have you ever had a fic translated?
-Nope!
13 – Have you ever co-written a fic?
-Yes! Not on Ao3 though. (Ah good old days of middle school and writing dumb things with friends.)
14 – What's your all-time favorite ship?
-I'm a self shipper by trade, I'll admit it. But I was a very big Sesshoumaru / Kagome shipper in my baby years. Now I lean more towards Loid / Yor. Love those idiots.
15 – What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
-TOO MAN TO NAME. I REGRET LEAVING ANY FIC UNDONE, BUT I'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO GO BACK. The past is in the past and it's time is over, unfortunately.
16 – What are your writing strengths?
-Focusing on characterizations and researching accuracies for making things logical not only in the fantasy realm but also reality. I love combining the two and giving people a little educational lesson along side their story time. It pleases me to teach others new things and myself. I also think my pacing has gotten a lot better over the years.
17 – What are your writing weaknesses?
-I tend to structure things differently than most people, and genuine writing formats— even using em dashes, I never learned until this year the difference between it and a hyphen— so it comes across as lesser than other people's writing, I think. Less polished. I like bouncing things around textually, having breaks in spots to let the mind "breathe" in between words or phrases to try and give it a bigger impact, but it weakens actual structures sometimes.
That and word choices. I'll be stuck for ages on what word to use. I hate repeating words or phrases, so it'll take me longer than necessary to just choose a damn word.
18 – Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
-I've done it many times and think it's fine! I use translators because I am unfortunately only educated in English (and my brain has difficulties learning other languages), but I try my best and do ask around friends if things are accurate if they speak the language.
If you're not sure what it says, just translate it through a friend or Google. Or, read the bottom AN to see if the author translated it for you. I grew up with American's using broken Japanese in their fanfics, you think I'd see dual languages any different? Lol.
19 – First fandom you wrote for?
-Inuyasha? Naruto? Crossover? I don't remember!
20 – Favorite fic you've written?
-Biased. 'The Elder Scrolls Skyrim: DragonBard Edition', otherwise known as TESSDE. It's my bread and butter, my longest length story, and one I would die to complete. We're technically half way there in terms of arcs, but definitely not in chapters, haha. I look forward to the day it's complete, and I hope others enjoy it too.

G, L, Y, U for the asks!
Thanks!
G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it?
Lol, boy, and how! I live and breathe otp’s. My very first otp was probably Seto Kaiba x Serenity Wheeler, from YuGiOh. They were the first fanfic I ever read on fanfiction.net, lol. First otp ship I ever contributed to fandom for was Sesshomaru x Kagome from Inuyasha, where I wrote my very first fics and did fanart.
Though if we want to get really cheeky, I could argue that my very first ship was the knife and the spoon, from cutlery and making them kiss as a tiny kiddo, lol.
L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. Characters that you absolutely loathe with the fire of ten thousand suns are exempt, as there is no point in giving yourself an aneurysm over a character that you hate.)
Hmmm, this is weirdly tough for me, not the complimenting part, but because I have a weird metric of how I view characters. Hm, let’s go with… Mizora. I’m overall neutral on her but I appreciate her petty bitch energy. If I were a cambion, I’d like to be as ambitious as Raphael but in reality I’d be like Mizora and I do appreciate a good petty play. It’s the Gemini in me, lol.
U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.
I have many favorites but I’ll go with Harley Quinn from Batman, Grunkle Stan from Gravity Falls, and since brainrot be real, Raphael from BG3.
Harley Quinn has been a favorite character of mine since I was a kid watching Batman the Animated Series. I’ve always been a fan of theatrical aesthetics (circus, theatre, commedia dell’arte, etc) and she’s just such a fun character. I’ve really liked over the years how she’s waffled between villain and anti-hero and how she’s not a perfect victim. Also Harley Quinn x Poison Ivy is a top tier ship.
Grunkle Stan because one of my biggest weaknesses in fiction is a sad morally grey older man but who is also protective of his family. He’s fucked up in his life so many times but he keeps trying. I’m a sucker for that. But also he’s just a great character. He’s made me laugh and cry and honestly that’s just a good criteria for any character. I’ve 100% played the fanmade Grunkle dating simulator and no regrets or shame.
And speaking of morally grey, or in this case, completely terrible older men. Raphael, my beloved. I played BG3 in its EA days and the very first time he appeared I was smitten. His voice obviously but also he had my favorite introduction into the game (and still does). The fact that his devil transformation involved a snazzy belt and different shoes is what really sold him to me. He’s so stupidly extra and it calls to my theatre kid nature, lol. I do miss the EA days of him roasting our camp 5 sec after inviting himself.
All that being said, I just enjoy his character within the game too. I like that he’s obviously a villain but he’s chill with us. In part because he wants something from us but I like that it kinda transforms for him into a double obsession. Obviously, crown comes first but there’s something just so delightfully fun about him writing about our character in his journal (entry number 2 is the stuff ships are made of). That he’s a cringefail theatre kid with daddy issues while being thousands of years old is partly what makes him endearing. I loved finding his fanfiction in his house and I love how stupidly bad his hell domination plan is (you’re doing amazing sweetie).
And one other bonus to liking his character is I got to make new friends and moots in particular in his corner of the fandom. 💖
Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (i.e., fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)?
Hm, I’d say currently, Helluva Boss, I’ve got a couple friends into that show. It’s certainly on my list of things to eventually sit down and watch but for now I see it through what my friends show me. Looks good though!
