The removal of the names of Confederates from US military bases is proceeding.
Fort Lee, the U.S. Army's Virginia garrison named after the slave-holding leader of Confederate forces during the Civil War, became Fort Gregg-Adams on Thursday in a ceremony that renamed the base after two Black officers whose struggles paved the way for a more inclusive military.
The post is one of nine that the Pentagon has said will be redesignated to remove names, symbols or other displays that commemorate the Confederacy.
Lt. Gen. Arthur Gregg, the first African American to achieve such a high rank, retired in 1981 after serving as the Army's deputy chief of staff, logistics. He becomes the only living soldier in modern history to have an installation named in his honor. Lt. Col. Charity Adams joined the newly created Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in 1942 and was the highest-ranking Black woman of World War II.
Not many US military installations are named after living persons.
Looking back on his career, Gregg said he started out in an Army that was split in two, "one Black and one white."
[ ... ]
Upon learning a few months ago that Fort Lee would be renamed for him, "I was more than pleased," he said.
"I had a very strong connection with Fort Lee, which is clearly one of my favorite posts in [the] Army, and I was very happy and very honored."
Gregg, speaking at Thursday's ceremony, thanked his late wife, his family and his mentors in the Army, among them, his platoon sergeant from basic training. "His teaching and personal example served me well during my career," Gregg said.
Just as Germany was de-Nazified after World War II, the South needs belatedly to be de-Confederatized.  The Confederate States of America was headed by a group of slaveholding traitors to the US. Reconstruction was abruptly ended early due to a deal which installed Republican Rutherford B. Hayes in the White House after a disputed election. The premature ending of Reconstruction enshrined Jim Crow and tacitly permitted the KKK and other terrorist groups to flourish.
The renaming of these bases offers further recognition that the “Lost Cause” is lost for good.

we're jumping back on the childhood nostalgia train and rewatching yet another disney channel original movie: avalon high. released back in 2011, avalon high was all about reincarnation and the legend of king arthur's court. while it was far from the perfect film, it had a lot of potential, which is why i believe it deserved not only a sequel, but a remake as well.

“...I always felt that the Army would be integrated. And when it did occur, it was more smooth than we imagined it could."   Lt. Gen. Arthur Gregg.
"Offered the chance to lead the first Black women's unit to deploy into harm's way, she leaped at the opportunity,” said  Maj. Gen. Mark Simerly of then major Charity Adams.
Gregg and Adams, both Black, will have their names on the army post in Virginia, until today named for Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.  The now designated Fort Gregg-Adams is “one of nine that the Pentagon has said will be redesignated to remove names, symbols or other displays that commemorate the Confederacy” writes Scott Neuman for NPR, covering the ceremony led by Gen. Simerly.

“Lt. Gen. Arthur Gregg...retired in 1981 after serving as the Army's deputy chief of staff, logistics...Lt. Col. Charity Adams joined the newly created Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in 1942 and was the highest-ranking Black woman of World War II.”
Gregg reorganized supply chains from the U.S. to Vietnam, basically ran supply operations for the Army in Europe in the 1970s, and was responsible for logistics for the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Adams went to officer’s training after joining the WACs, ran mail delivery for the European Theatre of Operations, and served briefly in the Pentagon before discharge in 1945.  She went on to earn a master’s degree in vocational psychology, and then “...went on to serve as a dean at Tennessee Agricultural & Industrial State College (now Tennessee State University) and Georgia State University. In 1982, she founded the Black Leadership Development Program, aimed at teaching young African Americans to be leaders in their communities.”
Both joined the Army when Jim Crow segregation was in full force, and both did their best to push it aside.  Both their names replace the slave-holding Lee’s.

Road Trip to Isle of Skye – Day 6 of 6
And sadly this day arrived: we leave Scotland today. It is still a long trip to Cardiff, so our plan was to stop somewhere half way again for a night, and then go home.
Leaving Skye
We mostly packed our stuff last night to be able to sleep a little bit more, but we still had to finish the cleaning. I loved the touch of a really squeaky-whistly hoover, even the Mr. heard it from outside when he popped out. I hate leaving nice accomodations, especially when we are on a holiday like this. But still: home is home, and you know, that little buzzing noise coming from cities... I needed that for normal operation.
At Coop we tried to find a bit of booze for one of our friends, but turned out that there is no chance to buy alcohol in those early hours (around 9:30). Well, we were sure he will be happy with some fudge too.
We went through Glencoe this time. We loved that part on the first trip, as Ben Nevis and Glencoe are absolutely stunning. We also visited the famous James Bond: Skyfall view! If you plan to go there, just google James Bond Skyfall on the Maps, and it will give you the exact spot. Amazing stuff for movie junkies.
Hadrian's Wall
Since I have seen King Arthur (the 2004 version), I always wanted to visit The Wall. I read about it a lot, and was planning to see it before, but this time we both found something interesting around, so chose our accomodation close to it.
There is a little, friendly car park called Steel Rigg, and from there a simple and easy path leads to the Wall. Which is sturdier than I thought actually. Right, I get that an 1200 years' old construction can't be a silly little fence which could be destroyed by a light breeze, but still... Completely see how it could keep barbarians out.

We were both hungry and tired, and we didn't have much time to have dinner and come back here to take the walk again. Not in my pace anyway, which is not ridiculously slow, but the Mr. is running almost! Anyway, I asked him to just drop me off at the accomodation, go and do the shot, and we will have some dinner later, I will investigate about our options.
I was in the BnB for 30 minutes when he messaged that he just realised: it's full moon that night, and basically nothing else can be seen on the sky at all... So he returned, and we went out to look for something to eat :)
Or not to eat...
We didn't really have much options. The pub we targeted was advertised as open, we went there before the serving time ends, so everything clicked. Until we went there, and  found a scruffy A4 sheet on the door with some scribble that it is "fully booked". We checked it on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google, its own website - nothing indicated this flip off, really. This is the thing I will never understand.
So we ended up going to a really dodgy and filthy looking Chinese take away, which had shedloads of health and safety issues around. Daisy chained power extender plugs, scruffy and broken fans, and opaque-of-dirt shopfront windows. I didn't want to imagine the kitchen area, but in that time we were so hungry that I didn't mind eating the Demogorgon itself.
We were not surprised when we opened the boxes at the BnB and turned out that it is completely not what we ordered. Maybe it was really the Demogorgon, and if it was, I can state that it is quite an oily boy. Stinks as well. Whoop whoop.
At least we had a good night sleep that night. Next day we started at a petrol station to have some breakfast, and man, I never expected Starbucks' porridge to be that good. The Mr. had some vegan pastry from Greggs, and with these fill-ups, we headed back to Cardiff.
I have some 4K footages of driving past the Prince of Wales bridge, Welcome to England, Welcome to Scotland, and all of these on the way back. Videos about lovely little drives among towns and villages, sheep who never care about cars, majestic mountains and stunning rows of Victorian houses.
Once I have time, I will combine them and share the video here :) Thank you for following this nice little adventure, I can only recommend Scotland to anyone who never been. We will miss it!

im convinced that deep down, arthur is a greggs man. he may get a chicken avocado and basil sandwich from pret, he has (intentionally) tortured alfred by making him sit through tea at harrods and its teeny-tiny finger sandwiches— but tbh, nothing makes sir lord arthur bloody kirkland’s soul sing like a good old greggs sausage roll.

♡ FILMS FOR FAUNLET FASHION INSPO ♡
~~Got bored so compiled this (pretty extensive) list of film references for faunlet style and aesthetics, might be helpful for anyone looking to delve into and develop their style. Don't take this as some kind of gospel, it's just a bunch of movies and shows that I think can be useful reference points. My personal style and taste for example is a huge mix and amalgalm of stuff I see, from movie characters to paintings, books, comics, cartoons, music videos, haute couture collections, K- and J-idols, BJD dolls, even elements and staples from female fashion that I kind of genderflip or just outright mix into and merge with my own "masculine"/boyish/whatever faunlet fits. I think the secret to finding your style is to never limit yourself & always be creative (& clever ofc)! ♡
Feel free to suggest and tell me some of your personal films/shows that inspire you the most. I'm sure I forgot some stuff >.> Hope this helps somewhat lolol
WARNING: A LOT OF THESE HAVE MATURE THEMES AND +18 STUFF, SO DO RESEARCH BEFORE WATCHING AND PROCEED AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION, CAUTION & RESPONSIBILITY!

'Painkiller' vs. 'Dopesick': Which Series Tackles the Opioid Crisis Better?"
Painkiller is a show with a story that we have all heard before. Perhaps we have not heard the exact story of Purdue Pharma but we have heard about opiod addiction and those responsible for it.
Painkiller is the second attempt at this story. Dopesick did it first and frankly did it better. That does not make Painkiller a bad show. It is very informative, and the cast is very good, but Dopesick got to these dramatic beats first and handled them in a more resonating way.
Tumblr media
Both series feature the Sackler family as they were the real-life family at the center of the crisis. Richard Sackler, to be precise, was the president of Purdue Pharma and the main push behind OxyContin. Played in Painkiller by Matthew Broderick and in Dopesick by Michael Stuhlbarg. It is Broderick who gets that edge simply because they explored the more sublte nuances, and the visions of his egomaniac uncle Arthur, played by Clark Gregg, helped heigten the performance.
As far as the rest of the story, Dopesick handled that better. In Dopesick, you have a young girl who receives an injury at a mine. Kaitlyn Dever is phenomenal in that role, and Michael Keaton starred as a doctor who himself got addicted to OxyContin. Keaton as Dr. Finnix had much more of a plot than any one doctor did in Painkiller. In Painkiller, they presented the doctors as easy to manipulate by the seduction and enticing of the beautiful young women who made up Purdue's sales force.
Tumblr media
Both featured real-life prosecutor storylines, and Dopesick handled that much better as well. Dopesick was much better thought out as an individual story while tackling the larger issue with the Sacklers. Painkiller tried to rely on more striking visuals and less development pertaining to the characters that made up the overall narrative. The Sackler family is one component of the story. While Broderick turned in a great and memorable performance, the rest of the cast of Painkiller felt forgotten, and that is due in large part to Dopesick telling this story so well.
The real tragedy here was and still remains the staggering number of people who are addicted to prescription painkiller medicines. Purdue Pharma is one instance of big pharma greed, but we need more education on addiction itself. Both shows were not afraid to show you how bad it was on the streets and just how addictive OxyContin is. As it is referred to in the series, it was like selling "Heroine in a pill form" and the real sadness stems from the fact so many deaths went ignored so one family could line their pockets.
