2D Dystopia horror concept; Arsentropolis

So I have an idea for a project I want to start on, and I’ve already made a few things :)

Arsentropolis is a dystopia covered in fog, disease, and demonism. A civil war has caused this civilization to wall up their borders to keep everything in and out. Clouds and fog fill the atmosphere and the sun can only be remembered by the ancient.

These dreadful streets are filled with scavengers, homeless, sinners, and preachers. Half of society is gone, and there’s no such thing as trust anymore in this bizarre dystopia.

I’m using a special style for it, idk what to call it. I don’t have a story plot yet but I’m working on it, and there’s still a lot of characters I need to make. I’ve got a few so far tho :]

This is Madame Anthrax, Miss Anne for short.

Anthrax is a deadly poison/disease

She is the duchess of Arsentropolis, and while they live in a ”democracy”, she mostly decides everything herself. She is a sociopath and portrays herself as reliable and sweet, meanwhile she is quiet the opposite. She made a ritual and deal with a powerful demon to possess her and give her power, and in return she would eat human bodies instead of regular meat to feed the demon. The demon only takes form when she is enraged or smth similar.

Alcatraz is a very bizarre ”cat”

He does mostly what he feels like, good and bad deeds. So he is both a good guy but also a bad one. He is extremely talkative and extroverted, which can be helpful sometimes, but in other cases it can just be annoying. He sounds just like a grown man, and does not meow or make any cat noises. Alcatraz does not take any sides, he simply does what his gut feeling tells him. He mostly just wanders around the dystopia and talk people to their death.

I don’t really have any info for the archangels yet except they’re all demons in disguise except for Michael fkldjdlwk

This is sort of a religious horror, as it basically has demons, angels, a whole bunch of crucifixs, excorsisms, and some other stuff.

My biggest dream would be to make this a point and click puzzle horror game, but I’m far from good at programming and I don’t think I could do it myself 😭

So far this is just a little project for myself, but hopefully I can fulfill my dreams.

Arsentropolis masterpost

2D dystopian horror game concept

This is the masterpost for my current project; Arsentropolis. It’s my point and click horror game concept that takes place in a sinister dystopia cut off from the world. It’s mainly religious horror but also contains a lot of body horror and weird stuff, along with uh …medical horror? Idk what it’s called but it refers to surgery, needles and disease and such.

I’m working on this all by myself at the moment, though I really hope I’ll have a game development team a few years in. Some credit and special thanks to my friend for helping me with opinions and decisions… (you know who you are 🧍)

More Arsentropolis concepts :D

These are pretty simple compared to the first enviroment concept I made, but I mean, they’re concepts…

The top one is of the church of this horrid dystopia, it’s the home of the preachers (nuns, priests, grand bishop, and a few others). It’s highly protected with crucifixs and holy water to ward off demons. But it’s also protected by the unnaturally tall nuns, who keep trespassers out. Even if the church wants the best for the citizens in Arsentropolis, they can’t just let anyone inside. The disease and satanism that lies in this city threatens the church, it’s really unwanted and would be a catastrophe if it got inside. The outside isn’t kept very tidy, not inside either, but it’s cleaner there at least.

The bottom image is inside of the state building where the throne party (rulers of the city) lives. It’s way more clean than the sickening streets and has warmth unlike the rest of the city. The throne party is pretty selfish, they spend all their profits on themselves, rather than the suffering people. All they really do is offer a small amount of shelter and food for a high price, jobs with low pays and high taxes. Under their control the chances of survival are low.

2 more priests for Arsentropolis!!!!!!!! Why not!!!!!

Father Hyde is a 47 year old man, with some extreme paranoia issues. He was much calmer before but now during these hard times he never lets his guard down and he constantly worries, which is making him slowly turn mad. He wears a gasmask to protect himself from the disease, even though it can’t even infect through the lungs (he thinks it will anyway.)

Father Sherman is a younger priest, at 33 years old. He’s pretty drawn back at times, preferring his own space. He takes a lot of care of himself and knows his self-worth. He’s not very easy to befriend but once you get to his heart he’ll never let you go.

Also have father Johnson… he’s so babygirl.

The nun to the left is Sister Hilda, little guy in the middle is the protagonist and the other nun is just the design for all the other nuns in the game. Don’t ask why they built like that you just start looking like that in Arsentropolis…

More Arsentropolis characters!!!!!!

All these little weirdos except for the priest are infected with the disease that lies in Arsentropolis. I don’t have a name for it yet, but it’s associated with trypophobia.

Jilly and Boe are conjoined twins, born with the disease. They’re only about 7 months old, but the disease has made them grow inhumanly fast. They’re pretty strong and lack some abilities, as feeling some emotions and talking.

Father Johnson is one of the few priests in the Church party. He’s in his 30s and have been loyal to the church and god for years. He’s half blind in his right eye. He has a sweet and loving soul but it doesn’t shine through much his quiet and gritty, at some times introverted behaviour.

Canine is another infected that was born with the disease. Its legs were replaced with arms, and its back is arched, giving it a dog-like appearance.

Centipeter or Centipetra is rn just an idea I have in mind and idk if I’ll add them yet. They’re supposed to be half centipede and half human.

The disease basically attacks your genes, mixing and decoding them, which can really fuck up your body. Creatures born with the disease can be really deformed. It also creates small holes in mostly your skin, but even worse, in your flesh or even organs. It can only infect through injection or consumtion, and not by breathing it in like covid. This makes it harder for the disease to spread but because of the high rates of cannibalism (they have to eat each other in order to stay alive as they’re running out of food and can’t get any new due their city being in a lockdown.) the disease is rather common. Symptoms start to show up after about a month, but it’s too late even after 13 days after the infection, as soon as it starts working it’s over. Life span after infection is from about 3 months to almost 2 years depending on the infected’s condition.

This disease isn’t entirely natural, as some sort of demonism lies behind it, explaining the unnatural features of it. Some who have been infected for q longer period may start to reject god and turn to satan, becoming aggressive like rabid animals. Babies born with the disease can look like a demon almost and be extremely inhuman.

MORE ARSENTROPOLIS CONTENT WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!

Alcatraz makes my sanity evaporate hes so silly I love him so much

The grand bishop is another new character in my game concept, Arsentropolis!!!!!! He is the leader of the church party, which is against the throne party, who are in control of the city and led by no other than Madame Anthrax.

He has high beliefs in god and the holy spirit, his faith is strong despite all dread and suffering. He usually leads protests against the government, that they deserve more rights, along with nuns following him in the process. He also chants religious phrases and advice to the citizens on the street, to encourage and motivate them.

He tries hard to fight against the demons and cruelty that lies behind every corner in Arsentropolis. Him and many other of the church party set out crosses and crucifixs to protect areas from demonic activity. Altough it may not be so successful, they try their best to keep the city safe. Even though it’s almost impossible.

I also made an official palette for Arsentropolis :D

It might change in the future but I’m not sure, right now I’m satisfied with this.

Some more Arsentropolis stuff (my horror game concept)

Yes this is a saint Denis reference…

It’s basically the Grand Bishop after he gets possessed and beheaded at some point in the game. His hands grow into jaws with eyes, and his entire body gets corrupted. Hoffman is long gone and his body is now controlled by a blood thirsty demon.

Here’s another one of these… with a spytower as our special guest. They’re pretty much the ”guards” of Arsentropolis and ”maintain” order and peace.

And this silly little bebey :D

Her name’s Sister Matilda and she’s one of the nun nannies at the orphanage run by the church party. (She and Hilda are sisters).

More Arsentropolis!!!!!!!!

I made some silly designs for the dogs and rats in the game concept, along with a new character!!!!

Miss Thorn, is a 32 year old nurse at the local hospital, that has been shut down and abandoned for over a year. No other personnel remains in this facility and certainly not any patients, alive patients for that part.

She tends to roam around the hospital, taking care of patients, that died long ago. She has brainwashed herself into thinking that these patients are alive and need treatment. She isn’t as stable and sane ever since the hospital shut down, as she seems to have completely descended into madness.

Sometimes she has even attacked and kidnapped trespassers in the hospital, infecting them with poison so that she can take care of them. Only to later infect them again once recovered. Miss Thorn has gone lenghts far beyond her limit to fulfill her ”duty”. She is under the influence of Raphael, the ”archangel” of healing. He keeps her alive so that she can continue her duties, but he is probably one of the reasons she is no longer herself.

If I were to make a game of this, she would be the first antagonist. The game starts in the hospital she’s in, with the protagonist/player waking up in a hospital bed after a 6 year long coma. Player goes through a few puzzles and challanges, without her being a threat in the start. After a while she discovers you, chasing you down, demanding to get back to bed and take your pills. There are more challenges, until she is lured to a pit of needles, that she then falls into. She’s not dead yet though, chasing you with needles as she’s slowly dying from the ones pierced into her flesh. But eventually she dies shortly before the player escapes, because of her injuries and infections from the needles.

That first part would be called ”Trypanophobia”, as it will have a lot of needles 😭

I’m planning to make the other parts phobia themed as well but I’m not sure what phobias to go with yet.

Madame Anthrax redesign 💃💃

She looked kind of goofy and wonky in her first design and it just didn’t feel right so I gave her a make-over which I like much more.

(Protagonist/Arthur for scale)

Anthrax has more backstory and mischevious plans now but I’m not really sure if I should spoil them, but, who knows if this will even be a game in the future? And if so it would take years :/

She was born in a happy and healthy family, with loving parents and one younger sister. Money was not a problem, during their time they were rich. Anthrax was showing symptoms of psychopathy from the age of 7 years old, and at 12 years old she was sent to a children’s mental hospital to rehabiliate. Her name was Susanne, but she had earned her nickname ”Anthrax” by the personnel at the mental hospital because of her vicious and twisted behaviour.

At 14 years old, doctors realized she was never going to snap out of her psychopathy, not even an ounce, she only seemed to get worse as time progressed. They thought she lacked human emotions and feelings, so they did not view her as a human. Anthrax was too manipulative and hostile to be kept in the children’s hospital, so she was moved to an isolated mental hospital for adults. There was no point of treatment anymore, in fact, they saw her more as an opportunity of lab experiments. So she became a labrat. She was experimented on to discover the human lenghts of how big and tall a human could truly grow. For 5 years she screamed and cried from her bones and flesh growing inhumanly much. She was in constant pain. But despite all this she did not die, she only grew stronger. At 19 years old, Anthrax killed every single person in sight with whatever seemed deadly enough. She escaped before police could get her, and she was free.

Anthrax is not traumatized over what she had to go through in the hospital, no, she was inspired. The experiment that had been performed on her inspired her to experiment on other humans. She changed her identity and temporarily moved to Canada to study. She returned to America at the age of 31 to the city that is now called ”Arsentropolis”. She was not able to experiment much until the dystopia broke out.

Madame Anthrax knows just as much how her victims suffer, she went through it too, but she does not feel a single pity or remorse. She does not care.

Was Arsentropolis majorly inspired by something? Or was there something that inspired the idea to create something like it? Just in general, what's the story behind its creation, how it started, if that's not too much to ask.

Arsentropolis is inspired by a LOT of things… some stuff I don’t even remember 💀

I’m not sure what the biggest inspo is, but maybe little nightmares? It kind of just has the same kind of vibe as little nightmares 2, more than the first game even tho I haven’t even finished playing the second one. I’m just gonna list all of the medias that inspired me cuz they’re so many 😭
