This is very self indulgent because I was very sick and nobody cared for me so now I'm projecting my perfect scenario on Armin Arlert.
Thermometer
Summary: You came down with a fever and boyfriend!Armin takes care of you. Tags: very self indulgent, angsty, family issues, Armin being a sweet and good boyfriend, fluff. Also, I measure temperatures in celsius so have that in mind when you read it (37ºC equals 98ºF, 39ºC equals 102ºF according to google), also probably errors because I wrote this post-fever.
Getting sick was not often for you, and fevers were even more rare. The thing is, when you had a fever you couldn't even move. You would lay down in bed and wait for the sickness to get slightly better so you could actually take some medicine. This was a habit you picked up from living in your family home. Nobody would check on you during sick times, not even fetch a thermometer or medicine. Sometimes you genuinely thought you could die and nobody would notice.
You've been living with your boyfriend, Armin, for a few months now. He was the sweetest boy on earth, always so ready to aid you whenever was needed. You still had a hard time getting used to somebody caring for you so much, but nothing prepared you for the first time you got severely sick while living with him.
It was a Saturday evening, you arrived home from work exhausted. You had a splitting headache all day and your body was starting to shiver.
"Shit, not a fever. Everything but a fever!" You whispered.
Fevers were the worst. You could handle a stuffy nose, allergies and sore throats just fine, but fevers were the only symptom that incapacitated you entirely.
You quickly took some cold medicine and showered, before the fever got you good, going to bed immediately. Soon enough you could feel your body shivering more violently and the awful cold spread through your body. You were lucky to catch the fever early enough to even take medicine, maybe this time wouldn't be so bad.
You didn't hear the door open, signaling Armin's arrival, but you heard his voice calling your name. You didn't have the strength to say anything, unfortunately.
"hey, love, everything okay?" His voice was low.
You felt his touch on your forehead and he quickly retreated his hand.
"you're burning!"
You could hear him shuffling through the room, opening a drawer. He approached you and softly grabbed your arm, putting a cold thing on your armpit. You cried a little because of the sensation.
"sorry love, it's just the thermometer"
Once the device beeped, Armin cursed under his breath reading the temperature.
"did you take any medicine?"
You just nodded.
"Alright, I'll be right back"
He kissed your temple and left. You didn't know what he was going to do, but a small part of your brain hoped he was going to care for you.
Moments later, Armin came back. You couldn't keep your eyes open, but could hear him squeeze water out of a towel, which he placed on your forehead. The towel was ice cold and you let out a cry again.
"I know it feels awful, baby, but I need to drop your temperature"
He put another small towel under your neck. Armin stayed by your side, damping the towels every few minutes to keep the cooling sensation and checking your temperature. You were not sure when sleep came, but it was already very bright when you woke up. You noticed your body wasn't shivering and tried moving to a sitting position. The bedroom door opened, revealing Armin.
"Oh, you're awake" Armin said.
He left a mug of steaming tea on the bedside table and quickly took the thermometer to measure your temperature again.
"37º" he said with a tone of relief once the device beeped "I was a little concerned when you wouldn't leave the 39's. Our ice stock is down to zero, but it was totally worth it"
You weren't dreaming then, Armin did spent the night dropping your temperature. You could feel the tears forming on your eyes, too quickly to stop them.
"Hey hey" Armin said "what is it? are you in pain?"
He got closer, trying to figure out what was happening. You just shook your head no and embraced him tightly. He hugged you back, kissing your temple and rubbing your back.
"It's okay, love. Whatever it is you can tell me"
"Not now, just hug me" you said, voice all weird due to your sore throat.
He shifted your position to cuddle you more comfortably. After long minutes of just embracing one another, Armin reached for the mug and the small capsule of fever medicine, offering both to you.
"Ginger, lemon and honey" he said "granpa used to heal every illness with this, I might be biased but it used to work wonders"
You had to battle even more tears, he made you tea!
"Thank you" you said, taking a sip and immediatly making a face.
"I know, it doesn't really taste good, sorry love" he said "but I promise it will help"
You took another sip, the ginger was strong, but you trusted Armin with your life, he was caring for you after all.
"No medicine tastes good" you commented.
Armin chuckled. You finished the tea, already feeling the exhaustion creep on you.
"Tired?" he asked.
You nodded. He took the mug from your hands and motioned for you to lay down in bed, covering you with the sheets.
"Try to sleep a little more, I'll be here when you wake up"
You grab him before he can stand up.
"Stay with me, please"
He smiles and leaves the empty mug on the bedside table. Soon he lays in bed, holding you close. You relax into his arms and silently thank the universe for sending such a caring partner.

I'd almost given up
Tumblr media
Everyone had heard the stories of the creatures that had once inhabited the lands of Shiganshina village, and the country of Eldia as a whole. The dragons that had nested along the ocean side cliffs, the sirens that flirted with passing sailors in the waves below. Swarms of pixies had flitted in and out of the trees, and spirits were known to abound. But by far, the most well known were the guardians of the land, the fae. Armin had grown up hearing stories about the fae, and asking his grandfather incessantly what he knew about them.
With the disappearance of all those creatures years ago, after the war with Marley was won, Armin knew he would probably never get the chance to actually see one, one of those fabled protectors he'd heard so many legends about. According to the myths, written into the books he'd read over and over again, they were an immensely powerful species of winged women, not unlike angels in their appearance. They were expert healers, casting spells and charms so strong it was said they could bring a man back from the edge of death, but also deadly fierce warriors, one of them alone the equivalent to twenty of the king's personal guards.
As time went on, the stories became more and more convinced that they were vengeful and easily angered, quick to kill at the slightest glance.
Armin's own parents had been convinced that the fae were still out there somewhere, and had gone missing trying to find them. Each night, they'd told their son about how fantastical the world had been, about how they wanted to find the magic in it again. When they'd vanished, Armin had taken up their mission, becoming enamored with the thought of finding the fae after a century of being shrouded in mystery. While the adults around him had called him a fool growing up, the neighborhood children mocking him when he was younger, his best friends were always ready to defend him, and to listen to the theories he had thought up after finishing some obscure novel about those magical beings.
Slowly, they'd all grown up, and while they'd remained close, Armin had never really let go of his curiosity, of the feeling in his gut that told him the fae hadn't simply vanished completely after the war had ended. So after he'd turned eighteen, he'd made a plan to leave the village he'd spent his whole life in and begin a explore every lead he could find. So as the sun rose that morning, Armin hugged his friends goodbye and promised them he'd be safe, before saying farewell to his grandfather and telling him he'd be back by the same time next year.
Eren and Mikasa couldn't hide the fear they felt watching Armin fade from view, but for his sake, they tried to appear confident. Really, they were afraid they'd never see him again.
That was how Armin had found himself traipsing through forested hills and wading across cool rivers, his only companion the horse at his side and the dagger at his hip. It had been a month and a half since he'd left the village, and as the air started to grow colder, he began to wonder if he would find anything at all. After all, his parents had spent years on the same mission he now found himself on, and they'd vanished without a trace, leaving him behind to take up their cause. Settling down under a mighty oak tree, Armin told himself that if he didn't find anything within another month, he'd return to Shiganshina and live out the rest of his days there.
A months came and went, with no trace of the fae. At this point, Armin was running low on money and other supplies, and as the first snows fell, he knew he could only keep going for so much longer. Pulling out his compass, he sighed as he gazed in the direction of home. At first light, he'd begin the journey back. Making camp under a sheltered outcropping of rock, he closed his eyes to sleep and dreamed of home.
////
A sudden crunch of the snow underneath him startled him awake, eyes springing open to meet a pair of large, luminous ones, staring him curiously in the face. Scrambling back into the rock, his mouth hung open as your head cocked to the side curiously. There, in front of him, clear as day and sure as the stone he sat against, was a young woman sitting in the snow, the white wings of a dove extending from her shoulder blades and curling around her body. Her face looked soft as she surveyed this new creature, the one with downy soft golden hair and bright blue eyes that stared at her in a mixture of shock and awe. You giggled at his surprised face, a sound like chiming bells leaving your throat and breaking the silence.
Really, Armin still couldn't believe he'd found you, a remnant of a once magical world. And you didn't seem to be a vicious killer, simply a curious girl who couldn't be older than he was. As you looked him over again, like you couldn't really understand how he existed (much the same way he felt about you,) you broke into a smile before taking one of his hands between yours. Warmth flooded through him as his exhaustion faded, and the world around him seemed to grow more vivid even in the dark, the snow on the ground glowing white like the feathers on your wings, the sky becoming a living being of indigo and royal blue. There was magic in your veins, that much was certain.
You voice startled him from his thoughts, bringing his focus back to your piercing eyes that studied him like a bird of prey, avidly and fixedly. It was almost as if the two of you really couldn't believe the other was real, that they existed.
"Hello," you said with a smile, "my name is y/n. And to think I'd almost given up on trying to find you guys. I knew you hadn't all disappeared! There was no way...."
As you chattered excitedly, Armin found his elation growing, yes, but also his cofusion
What do you mean we didn't disappear?

bassist!Armin who plays in a small local band and occasionally does vocals. He does little dances while playing and looses himself on the music. He is also the smallest bandmember and a bit shy, usually shielding himself behind Eren or Jean.
bassist!Armin who never noticed how popular their band was becoming until people started to stop him in the uni hallways to take pictures. He never thought people knew he was in the band to begin with, but he quickly becomes a fan favorite to the point it scares him.
bassist!Armin who constantly gets the attention drawn to him when Eren, the vocalist, makes sure to introduce him extra loud before playing. The relatively big crowd gets wild whenever the blond boy is shown.
bassist!Armin who finds out there are quite a few fancams and edits of him online and gets extremely embarassed that people notice him during shows.
bassist!Armin who is the "protect him at all costs" of the band.
bassist!Armin who gets supervised by his bandmates whenever he interacts with people because sometimes they can be a little too invasive and Armin is extremely reserved. You often see Jean become a bodyguard of sorts.
bassist!Armin who, despite his smaller frame in comparison to his bandmates and his pretty appearance, has one of the most powerful voices in the band. His vocals are sporadic but very noticeable, specially because Eren usually stops singing or lowers his mic to let Armin shine.
bassist!Armin who secretly has a partner that always watches him play. It is so funny when he waves happily at his partner from the stage, people wave back not noticing his wave is for one person only.
bassist!Armin who writes most of the songs with Eren and slips one or two verses dedicated to his lover, verses only for them to decipher and nobody else.
bassist!Armin who does magic with his fingers. That's all, not elaborating on that.

Note
this is specific so I'm not sure you write this
Armin afraid that civilian reader think he's bad bc of the colossal titan, he wants to be with reader but he thinks they can be with a better person but reader only wants him
I do write it! Don't worry, here are rules if you wanna check it out
I don't deserve you
Summary: Armin comes back after a mission, you and him finally make decisions about your romantic feelings. Also, a dash of sweet platonic arumika and Mikasa being a sweetheart. CW: spoilers, fluff, angst, platonic arumika, armin x reader, reader is gender neutral, use of second person (you), civilian reader, crafter and merchant reader, mentions of mass murder
The mission was successful, unfortunately.
Armin never enjoyed being in the miltary, it was his only survival path as an orphan and he endured the painful training for the sake of Mikasa - and Eren back then, at least. He wanted to travel the world in his most delusional dreams and become a small bookstore owner whenever he felt less delusional. When he was pulled out of death's embrace to become a monster and walking explosive, he hated every single mission and training even more.
"Come on" Mikasa grabbed him by his waist and lifted him from the bed "You're going to rest"
"I already did, Mika-"
"Shut up" she said "A carriage is no place to rest, you overused your strength"
I overused the demon. He bitterly thought.
The girl helped him hop on her horse, he held Mikasa's waist and rested his heavy head on her shoulders. The ride was short, or maybe Armin just slept all the way, and soon he was being admitted to the infirmary.
"I'm alright" he insisted when Mikasa asked for the nurse.
"you blasted two times, I had to dig you out of the carcass because you were unconscious" she spat.
"I know, but I'm better now"
Mikasa was a stubborn woman, but even Armin was winning her on this lately. Her dark eyes narrowed at him, but soon Mikasa gave up on threatening her friend.
"it would give them peace of mind, you know?" She said "knowing you were checked and that nothing was wrong"
Sometimes he thought Mikasa was a bit too observant.
"I don't know what you're talking about"
The girl refrained from laughing.
"Oh yes you do!" She exclaimed "that person who coincidentally always seems to be around the base whenever you're off duty and probably the person you spend you off days with to the point you don't sleep in your quarters"
"How do you-you know what? I'm not even surprised you stalked me" Armin argued.
"Payback, you little shit"
Mikasa didn't swear at Armin often, unless he hit a nerve.
"I was worried about you!" he justified "it's not like you go around saying 'I'm unwell, help me '"
"Neither do you, Armin Arlert. And also, stop changing the subject"
The blonde boy rolled his eyes, a loud sigh leaving his heavy chest.
"I'll let them know you're alright" she said "I've talked to them a few times"
Armin's eyes bulged.
"What did you say?!"
Mikasa smiled, but did not reply.
"Mikasa" he warned "please tell me you were nice"
The nurse arrived and the Ackerman girl left with a mocking goodbye towards him.
"Mikasa" he groaned.
---
A few hours into the night, Armin was woken up by the infirmary's door opening slightly. He thought it could be the nurse and did not bother to look.
"There he is, if you're quiet enough no patrolling soldier will check the infirmary" he heard Mikasa's voice.
Armin turned his head to the door, where your familiar frame could be seen. Mikasa simply slithered you inside and before she could go, she decided to torment Armin a little more.
"Nice talk, lovedoves"
Armin's face was burning, but he also felt unimaginably happy at seeing you.
"Hey" you said softly, stopping by his bed "your friend said you were feeling better. Are you?"
He wasn't. His health was stable, but his thoughts were another story.
"I'm fine, no injuries whatsoever. Just tiredness"
You took a stool nearby and sat down, closer to him.
"You should return to sleep" you whispered "Seeing you unharmed was enough"
"No no" he quickly stopped you "If I sleep a second more I'll die from boredom"
You softly laughed. He could loose any sleep if it meant you were there with him.
"What happened in the first place?"
Please don't ask me this, he begged internally. You were just a civilian, never involved in any sort of fight, just a common small merchant and crafter. Armin hated exposing you to the gruesome life he held. He already hated that you knew what he became, the demon he stored in his body.
"Just overworked myself" he kept it vague.
I murdered people was not something he would ever dare to say. Even if he knew, deep down, you were aware of his actions.
"I missed you" you said, looking at him with a shy smile.
Armin did as well, but at the same time he could not let himself feel too much. He had already too many feelings flourishing for you, not when he had only a few years of life.
"I missed you too" he said against his own convictions.
"May I?" you said, pointing to his hand, Armin nodded.
You delicately took his hand, lacing fingers together. it was not something so new in your lives, the shyness long gone form holding hands, but it left both of you wanting more. To which Armin was always afraid off.
"Tell me about those weeks I wasn't here, did you new pottery experiment worked well?"
You happily told him about the sales, how they were better than last month. About the new paints you were able to produce to paint the clay. He loved seeing you talk about your life, a difficult one but also sweet, in a way. He sometimes wondered if he could also learn pottery, some of his deepest dreams were to grow old with you in a tiny tent selling crafts and soap.
"I would love to see the new mugs you made, I'll buy the prettiest"
"Then you'll have to buy them all" you joked.
"I don't doubt it"
Armin smiled at you, feeling such peace like he always did beside you.
"Armin" you started, uncertainty on your face.
The blonde encouraged you to speak.
"Promise me something?"
He nodded, but also not sure if he could actually promise something. He had nothing to offer.
"You'll always return to me" you whispered "no matter what"
"I can't promise" he whispered back "but I can try"
You held sadness on your face.
"I just want to be near you for as long as I can" you said "please, try hard for me"
You were beautifully selfish, and Armin wanted nothing more than ignore everything important for humanity and only be there with you. But he couldn't, not realistically.
"I know, and so do I" he said "but...I don't have much longer"
"I don't care" you said "it doesn't matter if you have a few years left"
"You will be happier without the heartbreak" he insisted "believe me"
"You don't get to say what will make me happy or not" you argued, not in an angry way, just plain points "If I want to be with you and also feel the devastating loss, it is my choice"
Armin watched as you slowly raised his hand, kissing his caloused knuckles. The blonde felt his chest hurt, he uttered your name in an almost sacred way.
"I don't deserve you, not after the things I've done. The thing I am"
Your laugh was bitter, your hands holding his even stronger, but still gentle enough.
"I could not care less about it" she said "we all have our sins, this is the least of my worries"
"Even if I am responsible for other people's loss?" Armin tried "Many people mourn loved ones because of me"
"I do not care" you insisted "I do not know the others, I know you!"
You kept your eyes on his, not a single trace of uncertainty on your words. In a way, he felt good knowing you did not care, that he was such a part of your heart that you could forsake his sins.
"Please" you pleaded "stay with me for as long as we have, let me make you happy for those few years"
Armin could never deny you. Never.

Mad Guerrila and Irritatingly Logical Commander
Part two of my Commander and Guerrila story. Corrections were made because Tumblr hates me
Summary: Armin comes back half a year after the encounter with the guerrilla. He misses them, but not the only one who does. Tags: mentions of political persecution, mostly light hearted and attempt to be funny, just a sprinkle of angst, Armin fakes confidence a lot, Armin is a little sassy, reader is chaos, reader is conflicted, reader has a fake name (Kai), Arthur is a father figure for everyone, you love the braus family. Jean and Connie (they are TW)
Armin watched as the ship docked and the eager passengers started to leave in a chaotic hurry. Eldia was never crowded with visitors, but the amount of ships was still bizarre for such a small and extremely vigilant island. Armin could never really say that he missed that place, it had lost the sense of home years ago, when all the ties to that land left him wounded. The only reason he was still stepping foot there had to do with Mikasa, to check on her safety and well being. Of course, he also had the agreements to fulfill and the endless reports to narrate to the army. He hated that every visit had his neck on a rope, but there was nothing he could do about that.
“Hey, we should hurry” Jean stopped beside him “the sooner we report, the faster we get to visit Mikasa”
Armin nodded, sighing deeply. He went to his private and small room on the ship to collect his luggage and walked towards the ship’s disembarkation spot. Jean was already waiting for him, alongside Reiner and Connie.
“Pieck and Annie?” the blond asked.
Connie pointed to the pier area, where the two women waited for them. Armin could not blame them, crossing the ocean for so long was taking a tool on all of them. That three month trip back to Eldia was the longest they ever went through. Armin joined his comrades, leaving the ship and heading towards the two women. A few employees of the small harbor were beside them and soon the workers were offering to put their belongings in a relatively new auto.
“Queen Historia’s guests, am I right?” one of the men asked “we were requested to take you to the main headquarters”
Armin tried not to grunt out of frustration and let go of his luggage so the man could take it. He was hoping that the army would not ask for more than a few hours of his attention, but Armin guessed that luck was never on his side. He motioned for Annie and Pieck to approach and the group divided themselves into two autos. The trip was short, about 15 minutes, but enough to irritate the former commander since the engine was too warm and noisy. Also, the driver seemed to make everything on their power to shake the auto around and hit every bump on the street.
“Here we are” the driver said, with a strange voice.
Armin left the car, adjusting his clothes. He turned to take his luggage and almost had a heart attack once he glanced at the driver’s profile. Whatever noise of surprise he was about to let out was strongly drowned.
What are they doing here?!
“Thank you” Jean said to the driver, oblivious to Armin’s sudden frozen frame.
The driver had a thick beret and a standard harbor staff uniform. But Armin could recognize that profile in an instant, never able to forget that face.
“Armin, you’re okay?” Jean touched his shoulder.
Snapping back to reality, he took his luggage, eyes deviating from the not-really-stranger.
“Thank you” he said to the driver.
Armin wanted to scream. How was he supposed to concentrate on anything knowing that the guerrilla was his driver?
He saw the small and discreet smirk on their face before they restarted the engine and left. Armin shook his head and entered the building, feeling like his feet were made of clouds, the companions giving him concerned looks but not asking anything. The army greeted them and directed their belongings to the many rooms in the headquarters. Soon, they were locked in a meeting room, where everyone spent the afternoon giving a report. Armin had to focus really hard not to be incoherent, mind still on the driver, while Jean gave his report of the latest agreement with the south meridian countries. Armin could only think about how to find the guerrilla again.
Did they work as a driver or…was that just for Armin? He wanted to believe the latter, but there was no way they knew his party would arrive today.
Were they insane? Probably yes. Parading themselves into military territory as if they were not a political enemy, one that almost died from a bullet wound months ago.
“Mr. Arlert” a voice brought him back. The eldian army’s commander looked at him as if he was a stupid little insect on his way.
Armin had memorized the auto’s appearance, maybe he could find them by searching for the machine? He had to. Now that fate gave him a sight of their face, Armin had to see them again.
“Yes, sir” Armin replied, trying to play the usual composure.
“We must have a response from the east islands as soon as possible, look into that”
Armin nodded. Holding his tongue to not insult the man in front of him. Finally, the meeting was declared finished when the last sun rays were already leaving.
“We should eat something” Pieck suggested “maybe going out for a homemade meal nearby, I genuinely don’t want to have dinner with the soldiers”
Armin nodded, the other ones also agreeing. A few minutes later, the group of six were sharing a meal in a small inn, where a young girl was singing and playing some percussion instrument that Armin was not familiar with. The ambience was calm and the group could almost forget about their tiring day and heavy burden of duty. The former commander could say he was finally enjoying a meal for the first time in ages, watching as Annie and Pieck made fun of Connie’s lack of table manners, even if they were both just as bad. Jean was calmly eating, Reiner laughing at Connie’s antics but also keeping a calmer stance. Armin never grew close to Reiner or Pieck, but he could recognize their effort. Mostly, he was closer to Jean and maybe Annie, when she was not being insufferable with him. Looking at his comrades, he imagined if the mad-guerrilla had moments like these.
Did they have occasional dinners with their comrades?
Are their friends still alive?
Are they able to just be publicly laughing and enjoying music like Armin was?
He imagined many of those answers were a dry and sad No. He looked around, hoping that any moment he would see that familiar face come inside the inn, sit beside him and talk the night away. A delusional part of Armin wanted to take them to dinner, only the two of them, sharing things about themselves and laughing. Armin wanted to know their favorite food, the books they liked the most, their saddest moments, the happy memories. That was so stupid, he should not be so attached to someone that still remained unnamed to him.
“Come on, let’s head back” Jeans voice brought him back “You’re getting too wild, Connie”
Their journey back to the headquarters was filled with Connie and Jean’s bickering. Armin could not help but remember a third person in between them, a sad reminder that things were incomplete. He accompanied Pieck and Annie to their room for safety measures, wishing them a good night and rest, and after making sure the others were safe in their rooms he finally headed to his own. It was small with no windows, probably nothing more than a regular captain’s room, which Armin was not upset about but he could see the mockery the military made of him. Every time he came to this forsaken island, the extremists made sure to humiliate his revoked status. Armin shook his head, choosing not to dwell into those thoughts, he opened his bag to fetch some sleeping clothes and found a piece of paper inside.
You look very handsome in tailored clothing. It was nice seeing you again. Don’t look for me!!
When did this happen? How did they even slip a paper inside his bag? And how dare they just appear in Armin’s life, completely spin his world, and just say “don’t look for me”?
Armin changed his clothes and laid in bed, taking the piece of paper with him. He looked at the handwriting, not dainty but not bad either, just a common handwriting. The ink had horrible quality, which made Armin fear that the message would not last much longer on the paper. He wanted to keep it forever. Turning the paper, he almost missed a faint scribble mark on the back. Now, his years sending small letters to Mikasa during cadet training were enough to teach him some things. He took a small piece of charcoal from his writing kit, softly gliding it on the surface of the paper, revealing a hidden message.
What’s the dumbest place to die?
He smiled, too big of a smile for his own good. That guerrilla might be mad, but he was the one losing his mind.
---
You were feeding Pots when the young boy called you.
“Dad told me to warn you that they arrived”
Ivan left just as quickly as he came, leaving you an anxious mess.
“Wish me luck, roommate” you said to the horse.
You closed the horse stall, slowly making your way to the front of the stable. You did not come often to Arthur’s farm, but when you did he always left the horse feeding duties to you.
“payment for the blood I had to clean” he told you when you visited him after the incident.
You gladly did it. Whatever payment you could give Arthur would never compare to the mercy he offered not only to you, but to many other people. He had a long history of harboring runaways there and he had been doing so for a while. You tried to visit him as much as you could, warning the Braus family of any attacks your people were elaborating, making sure they were not harmed. His big family never asked about your alliance with the rioters, but you knew they were aware of it.
“You grow taller every time I see you” Arthur’s voice could be heard from the stable.
He was speaking to a tall man, with dark blond hair and a rather sparse beard. He was indeed very tall. Beside him, there was another tall and large man, with lighter blonde hair. You did not recognize them at all, but they had the physique of soldiers. You were never enlisted in the corps back in the day, but you saw their training enough to understand how hard it shaped them.
“You’re probably shrinking, old man” the tall dark blond man said.
From the auto parked in front of the house, two beautiful women left alongside a buzzed headed man. The women were on the shorter side, one blonde and the other brunette. You recognized the blond woman, she was one of the reasons your district was ruined years ago during a titan fight. Such a small person and that much damage. You always found it odd how she roamed free amongst her enemies, but you had your fair share of ‘working with the devil’.
“Commander, it’s been a while” Arthur’s voice was excited.
The man that haunted your thoughts was there. Pretty as ever, and handsome at the same time, he stood in an elegant and casual outfit. He looked good in blue, too good for your focus to work properly. You observed as he greeted Arthur, speaking something you could not concentrate on enough. The group entered the home, but Arthur stopped Armin from going inside, whispering something to him. Armin looked in the direction of the stables, nodding to the older man and quickly walking over.
You felt like your heart would give up any moment. Arthur, you son of a-
Trying to calm your drumming heart, you waited for the man to enter the stable. Your eyes refused to leave his beautiful frame while he got closer and closer. He finally opened the wooden gate, looking around and spotting you leaning on the wall.
“Hello, Commander. Good to see you alive” you said.
He just stood there, looking at you as if you were a ghost. Was he always that awkward?
“Did you unlearn how to speak?” you said again.
His surprised expression soon turned upset.
“Are you completely and utterly mad?” he finally replied.
Excuse me? What the actual fuck?
“Excuse me?”
“You are literally a target and the first time I see you again is when your mad self drives me directly into army territory?”
“Oh, that? I do that all the time. How do you think I gather information?”
He threw his hands in the air, flabbergasted.
“You do this often!” he exclaimed.
“Um, yes! That’s exactly how I am able to watch them without being noticed. People don’t look at their drivers” you explained.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, but the smile betrayed his upset feelings.
“This is exactly why you end up bleeding in stables” he mocked you “I received your note, by the way. How did you even slip that into my bag?”
“I have my ways” you said “Did you like my note?”
You could see his cheeks and nose get progressively more red. For someone as handsome and seemingly confident you did not imagine him being so shy regarding compliments, especially when he was so quick to scold you for doing your literal job!
“It’s good to see you well” he said “how’s the wound?”
You lifted your shirt a little, showing him the faint and jagged line that adorned your skin.
“It’s ugly, I filed a formal complaint about the nurse”
He chuckled, shaking his head.
“Formal complaints require a name and, if I recall well, you don’t have a name, Guerrilla”
“I do have one, and stop calling me that!” you complained.
“When you give me a name” he replied “even a-”
“Even a fake one” you completed “not happening, Commander. Besides, I am hungry and Arthur owes me food”
You walked past Armin, making an effort to bump into him, smiling annoyingly once he complained. He soon followed you into the farm house.
“You’re visiting him often?”
“Not really, I still keep a good distance between my visits” you said “just to make sure nobody is on my shadow”
“You had any troubles with the soldiers lately?”
“Not really, I was laying low for a few months. I returned to my duties a few weeks ago” you replied “and what about you? It’s been almost half a year since I saw my personal nurse”
“Diplomatic trips. Always takes too long and the ship trips are endless” he complained, rubbing his neck as if the tiredness still clung to him.
Even in your feverish state a few months ago, you could see he was a very tired man. A tiredness that was not only physical. You knew he was only one or two years older than you, but he acted as if he lived so much more. You guessed it was understandable, sometimes you also felt like you lived too long.
“That seems awful” you were not certain of what to say “but at least you’re back”
“Yes”
He was about to open the front door to you when you stopped him.
“Um, your friends are there. Let’s not mention my…political status?” you said “me and Arthur have a lie made up. I’m his occasional employee”
“Oh, alright” he said “I assume I should keep my nurse activities in secret as well”
“Yes”
He nodded and you let him open the door.
“Excuse me for a moment. I’ll be right back” he said, disappearing into the home.
Odd. You thought. You went to the backyard, where Arthur was preparing the table for dinner, Nicollo nowhere in sight, probably still cooking in the kitchen. You greeted a few of his kids, whose names you never remembered well, but they were nice enough.
“So you decided to join us for dinner this time? I wonder why” Arthur said to you, a stupid grin on his face.
“Shut up” you mouthed to him.
He laughed. You helped him prepare the table by placing all the plates and cutlery. You never stayed for dinner and usually ate whatever plate Arthur gave you on the stables or front porch. He would always invite you to join the table, but you were scared of getting even more attached and always declined. Your gratitude towards the Braus family, Arthur in particular, was already more than enough. The old man seemed to never take it personally though, which you appreciated.
“All done” Arthur said “let's bring the food and call everyone”
Soon enough, dinner was fully set and everyone was already taking their seat. You saw as the other new faces arrived, their eyes focusing on you. Looking at your plate, you avoided looking up and tried to remain as invisible as possible. Joining for dinner was a mistake, all for a boy you were stupidly infatuated with. You had a complicated enough life, adding strange romantic feelings was stupid.
“How rude of me” Arthur’s voice pulled you out of your thoughts “everyone, this is Kai, my helper from time to time”
He put a hand on your shoulder, patting it slightly. He pointed at the new faces, presenting their names to you. Knowing your wonderful memory, you would probably forget or mix them up soon enough.
“Nice to meet you” Armin said “Kai”
He had a very innocent and warm expression. Piece of shit, you were going to slap that pretty face when opportunity came.
---
Armin had a hard time keeping his attention on other people. He wanted to speak openly with one specific person, ask them many questions and sit by them. He could not do it, of course, not without raising any suspicion. Glancing at them from across the table, he noticed that they seemed shy, which was not something Armin expected from them.
Kai. Was it their real name? It did not matter, he thought it fit them even if it was fake.
Mikasa kicked him softly under the table. He looked at his longtime friend, her face questioning and her eyes slightly moving to Kai. Was he that obvious? or just enough for Mika to notice? He just shrugged, turning his attention back to Jean and Connie’s bickering with Ivan.
“Kai, right?” Mikasa’s voice was low, but clear “I saw you around a few times, but I never presented myself. Mikasa”
Armin tried not to choke on his food. He had the sensation Mikasa would make him pay for all the teasing regarding her and Annie’s situationship.
“Pleasure to meet you” they shook Mikasa’s hand, face a little stunned.
Thankfully, their initial conversation was ordinary. He noticed Kai would give many vague answers, probably to preserve their identity, but enough to engage Mikasa. He was slowly dragged into conversation.
“So, are all of you old comrades?” Kai asked at some point.
“Most of us” Armin replied “we all joined in the same year. Although me and Mikasa know one another the longest, about…twelve or thirteen years”
“Wow” Kai replied, face slightly thoughtful.
“A blessing and a curse” Mikasa broke the momentaneous silence “he can be irritatingly logical sometimes”
Kai laughed, agreeing. Anyone outside would not read too much into it, but Armin knew they were recalling their first meeting on the horse stall.
“I also happen to be a very good friend” he replied to Mikasa, slightly kicking her under the table.
Dinner lasted for a few hours, Arthur sent his kids to the main home to prepare for bed while the older ones carried all the dishes back to the outside kitchen. Armin saw as Kai took washing duties. Arthur tried to argue that it was his turn to do it, but they shooed him away.
“Leave, old man” they said “they’re my dishes now”
“Dishes are not a part of your labor contract” he argued.
“We don’t have a contract, besides I’ll be nice and do it for free” Kai replied “to relieve your old knee articulations”
Armin smiled watching the interaction, already aware of the stubborn behavior they sported. He soon took place beside them, with a cloth in hands.
“Let me dry and put the dishes away” Armin whispered, already taking a few plates.
Kai nodded and Armin was the happiest man on earth at that moment. The two stood there, one washing and the other drying the dishes. The kitchen was getting empty, with the others going inside the house, most likely taking their catch up conversations to the living room. Mikasa was still there though, stacking the last dirty dishes next to you.
“Can you two handle it? I’m a little tired today from all the errands” she said.
“Yes” Armin replied “have good night, Mika. Make sure Annie sleeps or else she gets insufferable in the morning”
She pinched him on the side, with enough strength to bend him a little. He could not help tease her about Annie, though. He smiled at her in an apologetic way, wishing her a good night.
“Hi” he said once Mikasa left.
“Hey” Kai replied.
The only sound was the water flowing from the tap and the laughter in the distance. Occasionally, Armin’s elbows would brush on their arms, sending stupid warm sensations to his body. Once the dishes were done, he leaned on the counter, not sure of what to do.
“We should go back to the house” Kai said.
“I know” he said.
None of them moved. He was looking at his shoes and glancing at Kai from time to time. Everything was so stupid and awkward and pretty. He hated it.
“It was fun” he finally said “to be able to talk to you again”
“Yes” they said.
He stood straight, slightly bouncing on his feet and thinking about getting closer. Kai seemed to read that and spared him the decision, stepping in his direction.
“Are you…staying?” they asked.
“A few weeks probably” he said “I'll leave for some representative meetings but I’m always coming back here whenever I can. To check on Mikasa”
“You two are very close. That’s nice of you, visiting her”
“I suppose, but considering that she is too distracted flirting with my team mate I kinda feel left out” He said “jokes aside, I’ll be around more often”
He wanted Kai to know how much he longed to see them more often.
“Then you’ll probably see me a few more times” Kai said.
“I am counting on that”
The two fell silent again. Armin wondered if he said too much, if he crossed any limits with that. He was not dumb, he was confident that they at least had a small interest in him, but doubts were always a presence in his life.
“Armin…” they paused, looking down at their feet. Their hands moved strangely, as if they did not know what to do with them.
He encouraged them to speak. Kai lifted their head, looking Armin in the eyes and stepping closer again. He felt his breath trap within his chest, his heart drumming.
“I never properly expressed my gratitude the first time. I know I called your sewing abilities ugly, and they are, but I am genuinely thankful for what you did”
He smiled. He wondered if they did that on purpose or if brutal honesty was just their personality. It did not seem intentional sometimes.
“Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I would be glad to…know you more”
“So do I” he said “as long as you want to, of course”
A few long moments passed, where both just stood there facing one another.
“We should get inside, It’s getting colder” they said.
“We should” he agreed.
Nobody moved. Armin had been much physically closer to Kai before, when they were injured, but that moment felt too intimate. He felt a strange trance that would not let him move away, but only push them closer.
“Wow. You’re very close” Kai said.
Armin immediately took a step back. Feeling like he did something wrong.
“I’m so sorry-”
“No, No, you idiot. I didn’t mean-” Kai sighed loudly, stepping closer again “How many more signs I’ll have to send you?”
Signs? Were they thinking the same he was thinking? Or was Armin foolishly delusional and thinking something completely inaccurate?
“Do you know what a kiss is or you’ve been too long in the military?” Kai spat, crossing their arms.
Armin held no single coherent thought in his head. They were thinking what he was thinking, but what would happen then? He had never daydreamed this far. He was not stupid, he had a few romantic interactions before, but none had the same connection he was building with Kai. Armin lacked any substantial flirting abilities.
“I think I broke him” they said again, waving their hand in front of Armin’s face.
“Sorry, I just…” Armin stuttered “Um. You’re just very bold and I’m so lost”
“Mikasa said you were irritatingly logical” they replied “what would the next irritatingly logical step now?”
He was a disaster. The chance to woo gracefully was already destroyed, he might as well be awkward.
“I would ask you politely if I can give you a kiss”
Kai grinned, trying to hide it behind their hand.
“You’re so stupid, but so so adorable” they said “I demand a kiss on the lips, Commander. Now”
He chuckled, cooling his warm and red face with his hands. It did not help and his face was still very much red when he softly kissed that absolutely mad guerrilla under the orange lamp of the outside kitchen.

I'll never love anyone the way I love you
Armin x reader
Part two to 'post cards from Eden.'
Tumblr media
Wringing your hands around each other, you stopped to glance at the clock tower behind you while every other person in the town square went about their usual business, the sounds of shoppers chattering and merchants hawking their wares filling the air in a pleasant hum. It was a little past two in the afternoon, and after you'd spent the morning completing your chores, you'd said a hasty goodbye to your mother before rushing out the door in your best clothes. Your mother, knowing you'd hardly spare a glance back, simply laughed a little to herself as she observed your flushed cheeks and joyful expression as you ran out the door and down the street.
So you found yourself now, lazily watching the passerby as they smiled care freely at each other, some laughing with bottles of beer in their hands, other gossiping quietly a ways away. Funny how people could almost forget about the hordes of titans just outside the walls, the world that was no longer safe for any of them.
The sudden ringing of the bells startled you from your thoughts, and you stood sharply, brushing the wrinkles from the fabric of your clothes as people all around stopped to watch the scouts enter the walls. With a haphazard symphony of creaking and grinding metal, the gate began to creak open, and not a moment later, you felt your heart pick up speed as a wave of green washed through the gate that shut with a final clang behind them. This was always the worst part. This was the part where you had to watch mothers, fathers, struggle in vain to find their missing children, where you had to listen to the heartbroken wails that left their lips as they heard the news that not everyone had made it back. This was the worst because, despite you believing with every fiber of your being that Armin would come back safely, you couldn't stop the twinge of fear you felt whenever you couldn't find him among the sea of emerald. Usually, you'd find him in minutes, but today, it was taking longer, and though you tried to steady your breathing and calm yourself, you could tell you were getting more and more anxious by the second.
As your breath grew erratic and your voice panicked, you began to ask the other soldiers if they'd seen him. Some would report having seen him when they left, but then added that the right flank had come into contact with some abnormals on the way in and they didn't know where he'd been placed in the formation. Others simply looked at each other in confusion, muttering his name back and forth like they were trying to jog a memory.
Arlert, they whispered
Arlert?
No one could answer your question, and since you couldn't even find Eren or Mikasa, your despair only grew. Sinking to your knees, you held your head in your hands and began to weep, despite your best efforts to assure yourself that he was ok.
He promised he'd be back and he never breaks a promise
But titans don't care about promises do they-
Shut up, shut up, he's fine and you're just being silly. Pull yourself together, dammit, what will he think if he sees you like this?
The answer actually came far sooner than you were expecting as, with people stepping all around you and your body still folded into itself on the ground, you heard a familiar voice shout your name. Head snapping up, your eyes searched for the owner of that voice, that comforting face.
"Y/n!"
There it was- and there he was. Bright blue eyes shinning at the mere sight of you, relief painted across his features as he met your eye. So quickly you felt the palms of your hands scrape against the rough ground, you stumbled to your feet and began tearing through what remained of the crowd, practically knocking Armin over as you barreled into him with tears of joy now streaming down your cheeks.
For a moment then, the world stopped. There were no titans, no war, no soldiers trained from their teenage years to watch their friends die without a word. There was only you and Armin, your body and his arms around you, grounding you to him like you'd never be apart again. And you wanted to believe you wouldn't. So you brought him closer, inhaling his scent as he did the same, both of you not quite sure of the other was real. It might be just a pretty dream. But no, it was real, you were there in each other's arms despite all the odds.
Gently, you felt him press his lips to the crown of your head, murmuring something against your hair.
"I told you I'd see you soon, didn't I, love?"
