Aurora dancing over Abisko and Torneträsk ✨

Last night was special. I travelled up north on a whim, hoping to see and photograph some of the best northern lights this season. And while the forecast didn't come to pass (it was waaaay off), a few hours of waiting finally paid itself off. Most of it was brief, but those few moments of intense activity were so beautiful.

What remains now is to sift through the many hundreds of pictures and videos from this night. And I'm looking forward to all of it!

This rare white fogbow appeared just as the cruise ship Ultramarine crossed the Arctic Circle off eastern Baffin Island, Canada. Unlike seven-color rainbows, "ghost" rainbows appear in fog rather than rain.

Flashback to Finland 🇫🇮: this is an example of a lavvu, the temporary dwelling of the Sámi people. Lavvus have been used for at least a thousand years, and are still used today. They’re similar to a tipi but usually lower to the ground. Reindeer at Alkhornet The lush meadows below the Alkhornet mountain are perhaps one of the best places in Svalbard to watch reindeer - there are dozens of them everywhere and they are totally unafraid and approach you pretty upclose and personal. The Svalbard reindeer subspecies is smaller their Northern American or Norwegian or Russian relatives. Uniquely, they have significantly shorter legs but a furrier coat versus other species. Leaving Tromsø on the way to Svalbard, the Arctic archipelago between mainland Norway and the North Pole. Above the Arctic circle, the sun doesn't rise at all in winter. While Tromsø does get a bit of daylight at noon, the polar night dominantes Svalbard, with not a single ray of sun, not even twilight, all day. Time feels like it's nonexistent up here. It could be 10am, 12pm, 10pm, it all looks the same.
