reading through your recent asks regarding henry/the witcher, i’m continually reminded of why you’re one of my favorite ask-answerer’s on this site. just. thank you for always being level headed and fair in the way you approach and answer asks, especially when it feels like a lot of emotion is flying in a lot of different directions in the fandom

I’m constantly in such awe of your blending! I was wondering what blending technique(s) you use to make gifs like the first one in this gorgeous set where the opacity of one gif is higher inside the shape of the other gif?
hi! thank you so much, you're so lovely!! 💗 the gif you're asking about doesn't actually have anything special going on for it. for this whole set—as per usual—i used the screen blending mode. this mode kind of makes all of the dark/black areas of your gif a canvas for the gif that you want to blend it with! and this is why the opacity of one gif is higher within the silhouettes of geralt and roach—they're the darkest areas of the base gif. i hope this clears it up, but if you have any more questions let me know!

Hi! I wanted to start by saying oh my god you are such a gift to the witcher fandom, I’m constantly amazed by your gorgeous gifsets and the incredible little details you notice across the seasons (for instance: the geraskier eyebrows 🤨 gifset? gold! and something I would never ever have picked up on otherwise)
I’ve recently started trying my hand at making a few witcher gifs because the brain seems incapable of letting these characters go, and it has meant the world to me when blogs like yours reblog something I make! My question is about tagging a tracked tag: is there a general tumblr etiquette (or do you have a personal preference?) on who/when/how often it’s okay to tag a blog’s tracked tag for a gifset? The extra exposure is really lovely, but I don’t want to overdo it or spam anyone. Thanks in advance!
oh my god, thank you so much, you absolutely lovely soul ❤️. whenever someone calls me a gift to the witcher fandom i always end up crying my own weight in tears, so. that’s definitely happening again 😭. thank you.
i can (gladly? sadly? who knows at this point) relate to brain seems incapable of letting these characters go, so i get you. :D and yeah! tagging someone new in my edits always makes me nervous, too. i mean, i can’t speak for all content creators on tumblr, but i’m sure this happens to a lot of us? personally, i always feel nervous when tagging someone new in my edits? even if we’ve been mutuals forever, and i know they like this fandom, there’s always that little nagging voice in the back of your head going but what if i’m bothering them? what if they get annoyed with me?
so, at least for me, if you tag me in your edits? you would never, ever, annoy me. at the end of the day, being tagged in something doesn’t mean that i’m contractually obligated to reblog it, you know? if you want to make sure that i see your post, and you’re posting about something that you know i love (like the witcher or our flag means death), feel free to tag me! in literally anything! sometimes i’m tagged in things for fandoms that i don’t really follow, which is absolutely fine, but there’s a good chance i might not reblog it.
the one and single thing that annoys me when it comes to tagging etiquette (and this might be just a pet peeve of mine, i don’t know) is if someone who doesn’t even follow me and i’ve never spoken to before tags me in something? it just feels like they’re going hey, it looks like you make a lot of gifs in this fandom and maybe you have a lot of followes, so i thought it might be cool for you to reblog my stuff, but i don’t like your blog enough to actually follow it. so, yeah.

1. My breaths are run by your compass by regulusrules. [T] [20K+] [post-camlann fix-it] [golden age but merlin stabs arthur in his heart first].
Not because it's my fic and it's genuinely so insane you won't believe it, but honestly, it's the best idea I've ever come up with, even better than the widely beloved my heart is readily yours. For me, it's the perfect continuation of their story, and the most unhinged plot twist you could find in a fic.
2. Half of my soul by @clockwrkpendrxgon. [G] [2K] [MCD] [golden age growing old together]
This fic is half of my soul, or what the poets say. It's so much better as an ending than what they've given us. At least this is filled with such golden love it makes you ache. At least this makes sense.
3. from hearth and ashes, we’re reborn by @remuscariad. [G] [5K] [canon era magic reveal].
This fic is so good you'll be on your knees from it. The prose, the characterization, the tropes used... it will linger in your mind and fester there from how beautiful it all is. And the art in it by @onepeppercorn... stunning.
4. Our broken pieces by @aramblingjay. [T] [10K] [canon era established relationship]
You can pry this fic from my cold dead hands. I will never stop recommending it until it gets the fame it deserves. One of the most beautiful fics ever written about them, and genuinely encompasses their characters so perfectly.
5. gentle as an early spring breeze by @prattery. [G] [2.5K] [canon divergence golden age]
They are alive and in love and we're all living in this fic because it's what they righteously deserved. The way their life was written here and the love between them... I swear this author could write anything and I'd kudos it before even reading it.

Loss / loss / win by milleseptcent guuuuh the SCALE! The FEELS! Soulmates Carraville. Takes place from playing days to MNF-era. Gary and Carra, both without soul marks, fuck around in a casual relationship... for about twenty years. The ending is SO SWEET!
Anything That Isn’t This by @kloppend the sleeping death apocalypse fic, read if you want to ruin yourself for two or three days but ALSO the beauty of the writing is 100% worth the devastation, one of the finest written pieces in the fandom imho. HAUNTING, gorgeous, aching, amazing.
Play the Whistle by @zevons - Referee!AU Carraville!! What more do you need to know?! Gary and Jamie’s football dreams never came true, so they do the next best thing. Lovely Jamie&Stevie friendship. Enemies to lovers. So much snippy banter before they realize they are actually besties who want to smootch. FEEL GOOD but with tons of depth as well.
amunt by @carraville short, punchy, poetic = classic redandgold! Valencia!Gary, pining!Jamie. Also incredible that this was written only two weeks into Gary’s appointment, BEFORE the Barcelona loss, before things unravelled, so it’s an amazing time-capsule into the fandom in late 2015 (when they didn’t know if Gary would ever come back!)
Through fresh eyes by @aramblingjay - Jamie comes to MNF. Gary deals. Truly top-notch writing, amazing language, deft characterization. It never overindulges while remaining poignant throughout. Can be read as pre-Carraville or platonic-soulmates type friendship. It’s tagged as incomplete but it is finished. Essential reading, a classic!

Great romantic closing scene where they negotiate the implications of Jamie’s injury scare. Also SCHOLESY!! <3
It’s just not what’s done by @player1064 truly a Carraville writer that ‘burst onto the scene’ as fast and furious as Micah Richards! My fave of theirs. A truly hysterical premise on the surface that they plumb deep to turn up real emotion. I love the time-jump style. Wonderful David&Gary friendship, as well as all of the Co92 rallying around Gary. Covers all eras up until today, with a January 2024 Carraville in Courcheval scene!! <3
Package Deal (It’s Valentine’s Day, ye dimwit) by @kloppinthekop My fave of their “Holiday Husbands” series. So cute and sweet and the love scene is sooooo (SOOO) hot and poignant !! Jamie taking care of Gary in every way on Valentine’s Day. Domestic feels.
Love You More by @effervescentdragon outstanding emotional excavation, Jamie POV Carraville. Uses a slightly disorienting (in a good way) jump around style that isn’t time stamped, but if you know your Carraville, you get your footing in a sentence or two. It’s a bookended journey between ‘fuck you too’ (visceral hatred) to ‘fuck you too’ (affectionate).
Gary Neville is Still a Red, Just a Different Shade by @fanficburner - your ultimate ABO Carraville! This isn’t for the faint-of-heart, angst abounds, I would not call this a romance! But a great character piece. Gary gets unwillingly bonded with Jamie, while still in love with Beckham. The standout part of this fic is the world-building and social implications of what an ABO society might actually look like; separate Omega changing rooms, registration offices for Omega registration, the harsh realities of an owned class of people.

5. I will die on the hill that Mouse has been pining over Jay for years, but any time he goes to say something about it, he either chickens out at the last second or Jay just doesn't realized what was happening ("you seeing somebody?" was Mouse trying to ask Jay out and no one will ever convince me otherwise)
4. point 5 is why he reenlisted. seeing Jay happy in a solid, stable relationship with someone else... that hurt to much. he had to get away from it. if he hadn't been able to reenlist because of his record, he simply would have found somewhere else to go - I have multiple AUs in my head where he goes to Boston, or Atlanta, or LA, just anywhere that's not Chicago, for at least a year or so.
3. all of Mouse's mommy issues. just... his entire relationship with Thelma. all of it. from being the little kid who idolized his mother to being kicked out and cut off when he wasn't perfect enough for the family image.
2. I've actually gotten really attached to the headcanon that Mouse was killed in action between s6 and s7, when Greg the Mouse first appears on the shelf behind Kim's desk. and all the more reckless than normal shit we see Jay doing in 7a is him just (not) coping with that on top of everything else.

this is like youtube telling its creators that HD videos are buffering too much, so they can only make audio content with a slideshow of still images. this is like snapchat removing filters because they require too much computational power, or twitter not allowing threads because they take too long to load, or instagram banning stories because they lead to too much turnover in their database.
hey staff? if the only way you can think to fix an issue with your site is to destroy the very thing that makes it unique, maybe, just maybe, you’re not going about it the right way. maybe you should focus more on improving the back-end infrastructure and settings to make it more efficient and accessible, rather than punishing the people who keep this place going
(apologies if a version of this sent twice, my tumblr has been, surprise surprise, glitching)
this is absolutely the most perfect ask on the situation and i really couldn't have said it better myself. fostering high quality gifs has allowed tumblr to create a very unique selling point which attracts and keeps people on this site. what they're suggesting now is just taking several steps backwards and it almost feels like punishing us for taking advantage of being able to create larger gifs

New to your blog, I was wondering if you have a Merlin fic rec list that's just your favorites. I unfortunately missed the Merlin fandom back when the show was airing so I always feel like I'm just missing the greatest stuff from other people
Hello friend! Welcome to my humble abode of a blog (which resembles more of a Merlin waste disposal). Like you, I missed the show when it was airing, but honestly when you stay as long in this fandom as I have, you will constantly be exposed to wonderful creative energies that give their all. It's a timeless fandom, one of the very few, and no matter when you enter it you will always feel fulfilled. :)
So, favourite fics! Gosh, how can I fit 2K+ bookmarks in one ask. When it comes to this fandom, I admit: I have no life. I've read a real huge number of fics throughout the years, but sometimes it's inevitable for fics to get lost in a sea of bookmarks. So to make things easier, I'll write you some canon fics that immediately come to my mind for how unforgettable they were.
No order; each one has its own chamber in my heart.
Short fic recs (1K-50K)
1. Our broken pieces by @aramblingjay. 10K, T, Canon Era, Hurt/Comfort.
Am I purposefully putting this one on top this time so that everyone who stumbles across this ask could check it out? Yes. Yes I am. Is it my personal mission for the fandom to give this fic the love and kudos it deserves? You bet it's a big overbearing yes. And yes I want you to cry and feel your heart twist with agony because of how beautiful it is. My eyes never shed tears for a fic before this one, and never will after it. There is something in the way the author broke Arthur that just resonated in my innards. And the way Merlin was there for him, not a placebo "I'm here" but there, in all actuality, doing so with every fiber of his love, made it something else. I like to believe that this fic was crafted so perfectly in a parallel universe, and sent to us as a blessing we never knew we needed.
2. Beauty in the Ashes of Our Lives by Fulgance. 21K, T, Canon AU, Magic Reveal.
This is probably the umpteenth time for me to recommend this fic, but I won't stop. I can't stop. This fic ruined me so slowly, and healed me even slower. All my Merlin friends do not believe why this would be one of my favourite fics of all time with what Arthur did, but honestly, it's the fact that the writer wrote it so convincingly that makes me crumble internally. It isn't easy to write angry Arthur, and it's even harder to write him grief-stricken, but here, the author blended both elements so perfectly. It's impossible to forget this fic. It's worth your every second.
3. Linger On Your Pale Blue Eyes by supercalvin. 18K, T, Canon Era, Touch-Starved.
Will this fic linger in your heart? It sure as hell never leaves mine. Every once in a while, I have to go back to this fic and read it like a morning paper. Some fics sustain you.. this is definitely one of them. Most of @supercalvin's fics are of sustaining material. They are made with such depth and broad understanding to the characters that you should take notes. There's this one line that everytime I cross this fic I instantly remember and I go to the nearest pillow to just AAA a little bit. When you reach it, I'm sure you'll recognise it, and I'll be waiting for you to come AAA with me.
4. Dower the Stars by RurouniHime. 40K, E, Golden Age, Pining Arthur, BAMF Merlin.
I don't think anything levels the levels of intimacy in this fic. It is one of the best Arthur characterizations I've ever read. His boundless love and pining for Merlin— oh my heart. Also, the world building and amount of research that must have been done for this fic is astounding. I was this close from following the author's footsteps and, idk, writing an entire research paper about Arthurian lore or something. The moment I read it I immediately wanted to contact the author and just tell them WHY ARE YOU BLESSING US WITH ALL THIS INSTEAD OF PUBLISHING IT?? It was amazing. I reread it a month ago for the third (fourth?) time and found myself gasping and aweing as if I never read it before. It keeps being an experience every time, one so worthwhile.
5. from hearth and ashes, we’re reborn by @remuscariad. 5K, G, Canon AU, Magic Reveal, Hurt/Comfort.
Earthshatteringly-poetic isn't a made-up word powerful enough to describe the beauty of prose here. There are fics that you open and immediately know that you're sold: this was one of them. Its summary alone dropped my jaw down to my neighbour's floor. The dialogue is so meticulously crafted it feels like reading a piece from a past era. Genuinely beautiful.
6. Half of my soul by marvelxpendragon. 2K, G, Post-Canon AU, King Arthur/Court Sorcerer Merlin.
This fic is half of my soul, as the poets say. So what if I reject the canonic ending and resort to pain myself with fics like this instead? I sometimes feel we, as a fandom, try to up the angst of the finale so that we forget how painful it was by bringing even MORE pain. But it's pain that I delight in, because it's pain that MAKES SENSE. Yes give me MCD but with a freaking beautiful life like the one this author gave us. Make me believe it was all worth something. Make me believe they lived.
7. whisper to the flame by @missfaber. 16K, E, Canon AU, Wounded Arthur, Hurt/Comfort.
*clears throat* *prepares for a mental scream*TELL ME HOW YOU LIGHT YOUR FIRESSSSS *clears throat once more and pretends I'm okay*
So, as the author wrote, this is indeed a love letter to the two characters we love more than anything. More than anything, I loved the fact that the author gave Arthur agency to think and act and be a king, even when he was still a prince. Even in most fics where Arthur already knows, this isn't common. So whenever I find a fic that has Smart!Arthur and a lovesick one at that, I would vouch my life and soul for it. Also Protective!Knights is the best thing in the world, ok? I would die for this discourse for real.
8. As a Sea Shell by bathilda bagshot (wellthengameover). 12K, T, Canon AU, Slow Burn.
Okay, so this fic is only bookmarked "Agony until 7 AM", and with that, a rush of drowning memories always come crushing my soul. I lost sleep and SANITY over this fic. I was thrown from a cliff and kept hanging in the air without a respite until the very END. I read it a couple weeks after the finale and it broke me even FURTHER. I was promised growing old together, and it was a big LIE. And yet I love it so, so dearly.

Sometimes I don't believe I had it in me to write this. Like.. what, dearest self, the hell were you thinking. With tyismso, I somehow balanced fluff and angst— a solid magic reveal fic. But this one? I only knew ✨pain✨
