doing things outside of your usual is such a humbling experience...
#lizzy speaks#to those who are curious what prompted this: my friend and i are collaborating on a video essay together#we picked it back up a week and a half ago after it laid in limbo for a month or two#and we're currently in the phase of editing it together (scripting + recording the VO is done)#and MAN. my respect for people who work on scripted/informative content just shot up through the ROOF#most of my experience with editing comes from footage first and then edit down approach (rather than creating/gathering visuals to uplift-#a written script) and it's. well. they engage with very different skillsets i think#my friend who i am collaborating with is very amused at me because this is not her first rodeo. meanwhile me as a first-timer.#i am telling her about how i am losing my mind over my editing timeline having gaps of footage because i couldn't think of anything to put#for certain portions (or i just didnt feel like looking through preexisting footage on the internet and dl-ing it)#and she compared it to 'telling a kid whos going thru puberty that its normal' EKLHFGLHH#im ngl the way i have spent like maybe 10 hours today off and on looking up footage and fact checking the splat artbook is so. explodes#it makes sifting through an 11 hour batch of footage of me playing big run sound like a cakewalk in comparison LMAOO#anyway if you read this far thank you :D i hope that in 2024 i can continue to be humbled in trying new things#and i highly encourage others 2 do so too! try a new method of approaching something or do smthn slightly adjacent to what you do!#tis a good learning experience and also makes u very appreciative of the things that are out there methinks#im literally only editing an 11 minute segment or so idfk how people make those 1+ hr video essays LIKE HELLO??? ESP IF ITS LICENSED MEDIA#HOW DO U GET ALL THE FOOTAGE FOR THAT. U MUST BE REALLY HYPERFIXATED AND DEDICATED TO THAT. DAMN. anyway. have a good 2023 everyone!

Just a little wish for a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to some blogs that have brought me joy this year
🎄🎁🎄
Tumblr media
Awwww. You're so sweet!!! You made my day. I mean it.🥹 Thank you for sharing this with me. I'm glad my blog brought some joy to you this year. So glad! I love your blog too. Very much! ♥ Wishing you the happiest Christmas and that you have an excelent 2024 ahead, dear.
🎅🏼🎄✨🩵
Since we're on the thanksgiving mood, I'd like to thank my favorite blog owners here too, some of the wonderful people I got to talk a little bit this year - or not talk in a personal level but either way, I appreciate you very dearly
I feel you are my priceless gifts this year. ♥
Tumblr media
First, I'd like to mention @elvisanddenise. I didn't have a one-on-one talk with you yet, but I'd like you to know you were the reason I wanted to rejoin Tumblr this year in the first place. I am 28 years old now, so I've been a Tumblr addict in my teenage years (for a different reason other than Elvis) but I lost that passion long ago. I didn't even actually use to share anything. Back then I used this account purely to read some fanfics on one of my favorite TV shows characters and that was all, until I got over it a bit. My Tumblr was forgotten for many, many years. This 2023, you were the reason I found it would be fun being active here again. Before I had my Elvis account here, I already accompanied your content daily. DAILY. Your account has a special tab in my browser, which I check on every single day. I mean it. It's been almost a year and, well... I gotta thank you for all the awesome posts you share, the great Elvis pictures and accurate info you upload to your blog, dear. Many great, even rare, pictures of EP are shared on your blog like, weekly. Yours is my favorite blog on Tumblr so far. Thank you so much for sharing your love on Elvis with us. I can see how you dedicate yourself to this passion and I highly appreciate it. ♥
Now, I got mention @eptodaytommorwforever as the first friend I got to talk when I came back to being active on Tumblr this year. I appreciate how kind and sweet you've always been to me. Thank you for all your wonderful, accurate info shares on your precious blog. ♥
Recently, I got to interact a lot with @jhoneybees @lookingforrainbows and @thetaoofzoe. You're so much fun, always making me laugh with the silliest things, which are the best kind of laughter ever! You've been nothing but the sweetest human beings to me and I also love the great content you share daily on each of your blogs, the fanfics, the pictures, everything! I hope you feel how much my words are true. A big hug from this new Elvis friend of yours here. I hope you're all safe and happy. ♥
@bellanotchewrites My dear, I hope you're doing fine. You're so sweet. I'm sorry if I'm shitty in answering my DMs. I really struggle on that, don't even know why, but you've been on my mind. Keep strong, sweetie. i'm wishing you the best! I care for you. ♥
@vintageshanny Always with the best tags, thank you for remembering me this year, dear. Although I don't always manage to participate on the tags content you share with me, I always have great fun seeing all the interaction from the other friends you tag. I love your blog so much! ♥
@dreamingofep I didn't got to read many fanfics this year because I have a hard time focusing on anything recently — and I know I'm missing a lot of great content from other friends here. I hope next year I manage to read a lot more of our talented Elvis writers. Anyway, I 'd like to say your "Sinned Awakening" series is my favorite! I love Vampire Elvis. You're doing an excellent job on that series, dear! I'm loving it! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your writing gift with us. ♥
And last but not least, some of the people that are always sharing or liking my content here but much beyond that, the people I love following. You make everything better. I love interacting with you and I appreciate your shares deeply. All of you have wonderful blogs. ♥ @precious-little-scoundrel ♥ @claire-elvisgirl @nothing-but-elvis @i-r-i-n-a-a @lett-them-eatt-cake @vintagepresley @suraemoon @bigdaddyelvislover @velvetelvis @presleyenterprise @alvvaysonmymind @ccab @almightybigbrain @aliengoth3 @pinkcaddyconfessions @tupelomiss @loving-elvis @heartbrake-hotel @elvisflowerchild @peaceloveelvis @helen06dreamer @sissylittlefeather @yintoeveryonesyang ♥
I really hope I didn't forget to tag anyone I care for, I'd hate that. But if I did, I'll remember eventually so I can tag you later.
✨ THANK YOU SO MUCH, MY FRIENDS, FOR MAKING MY DAYS HAPPIER THIS YEAR.✨ I wish you all stay safe, healthy, feel loved and appreciated. I pray for you all. Wish all of you a wonderful Christmas and a great holiday season. Enjoy your families and loved ones this holidays, babies. May your 2024 be filled with laughter and joy.
And thank you once again, @precious-little-scoundrel. For inspiring me after pouring so much love on many of us today. God bless you. ♥

Sincerely yours, much love,
Lally.

I hope this message finds you well. Alas, I have no sweets for Sun and Moon this time around. But, I would like to take this moment to uplift your spirits in hopes to help suppress the ugliness that this place has brought you for an unacceptable amount of time.
Firstly, I'd like to say I am immensely sorry that some people are unable to recognize or seemly choose to dismiss your boundaries. It's disgusting and very disrespectful to ignore something that's been listed and reiterated multiple times over and over again. I can only hope that the majority feel just as repulsed by such actions.
Anyways, with that out of the way, I would like to say that your art is chef's kiss. I really enjoy each art post of the lanky jester bois and the style that's uniquely yours. HOW DO YOU MAKE SUCH EXPRESSIVE YET STILL UTTERLY STATIC FACES??? Like seriously.... I don't know if I can really explain it properly. You have a way with keeping the original static feel yet also making it emote emotion so effortlessly in your art of both Sun and Moon(and now Eclipse). I love how they blush in different ways between one another; Sun with his whole face lighting up and Moon's eyes brightening up with sometimes slight additional color. I also love the funny shenanigans in the art responses to the asks. Particularly the hat collection.
On a similar note, your writings are as equally enjoyable and fantastic as the art you create. Recently saw you've started another dca fanfic with ruin eclipse. Can't wait to read that as well. Really love rereading your stories of the bois.
In conclusion, I enjoy your creative creations and how much time and effort you put into each piece that is made. Each one makes me go "omnomnomnomnomnom" and can't wait for more to appear. It's been great so far since I've stumbled upon your works as it continues to draw my attention. Looking forwards for more coming from you in the future to be.
Wishing you a wonderful end of 2023 and an even better 2024. :D
Tumblr media
Awww thank you so much for this sweet message!! 😭 I know that's just how the Internet is, but man it gets me sometimes 😅 Just gotta remind myself that I can step away from here if I need lol.
I do feel bad because these people are asking for comfort in their time of distress, but I mentally can't do it honestly.
I'm so glad you like my art and writings! Thank you so much for checking out my fics! I'm happy you enjoy my lanky goofballs 🥹
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this! It means a lot to me! 🫶

One final piece for 2023, featuring Muriel and her lil pet phoenix (before it's fully grown and starting it's death/life cycle ;D
This year definitely went by faster than anticipated, and had plenty of ups and downs for me along the way:
Ups:
I made the decision to finally pull life support on Genesis Dissentire and Galactic Patrol, and use certain things from the respective stories to fit into the various stories that'll be taking place in the Sci Fi WIP, which I haven't forgotten! It's just that I'd like to get back into my first love of comicking for a bit, so I'm setting the Wip aside for a while to work on Knightsbridge Hollow and--hopefully--finish it within 2024!
Speaking of Knightsbridge Hollow...I've been working on that more and the Parallels universe in hopes of actually doing something with a bunch of characters and storylines that my sister and I have had sitting around since high school!
I took a massive step back from fan characters this year to focus on original stuff, and I think my social media presences suffered a lot from that LOL The lack of engagement is especially more significant here, so I might space out my posts to a few times a month or so, though if things keep going the way that they go, I might hop off this account indefinitely. We shall see!
I got into candle making! It's actually very relaxing and very fun, and I'm hoping to add some onto my Etsy this upcoming year!
Downs:
I've been feeling increasingly more useless when it comes to my job, the 50+ job applications I've thrown out this year (and only a handful of interviews I got out of them), and friendships, as I've gone through being the friend who gets left in the dust yet again. I can't help but feel like something is Wrong with me, and that I'll have to be satisfied with my job, and being the obnoxious person who can't read the room and gets ghosted until I learn my lesson.
Depression's been Real this year. Turns out the therapist I got last year was only good at taking my money and not actually helping me, and I can't really afford therapy right now anyways, so I've just been floundering around this year, clawing my way to the surface from depression cycles, only to fall back under again and force myself to get through the day when the only thing I wanna do is curl up into a ball and die lol
Prayers for being happy with my circumstances, a new job on the horizon with better pay/hours, and not letting social media and stuff get me down would be appreciated!
If you made it this far, BLESS. Thanks for sticking around with my and my goofy lil imaginary people!

Hihihihihii I first just wanna say, I love ur artstyle it’s actually so pretty, and so adorable, and super super yummy and delicious, and SECOND, I did a tiny bit of snooping on ur blog (just ur recent stuff), and I’m super curious:
1. What IS ur little world building thing that’s going on, I’m a bit confused 😭
And
2. Would u mind giving an introduction of ur main oc fellow? I love the design btw :333
ANYWAY, I hope u have a good day :D
Thank you very much for the kind words and gestures mate💐 (wish most people were interested like you but I have hope someday it will get attention) so to answer your questions I will spill them out in detail
(heads up: the world building is still in works so I don't blame you if you still get confused at the end of reading it but just to clarify it still in the works but his is what I got so far)
//Warning: Lots of reading (So bring a night light out)
For question 1:
In the world building, it contains things you might be curious with, the world building is considered to be fantasy, sci-fi, (horror but only for the important parts so not as much) coming of age, superhero, and yeah (that's all I can think of) Now. The world of mine is considered to contain, Marvel (supers from the mcu), God Of War, and the famous game itself Minecraft
Now originally, this was only all based off Minecraft itself because our original characters were from Minecraft named Renny and Tank (who you may have heard of on this blog) and in all cases, after the smithing templates were added to the game, I actually started watching marvel again and oh my I forgot how much I loved marvel, so a crazy idea of mine popped up and I decided to add Minecraft and mcu idea together to fit my world building, therefore leaving me to make new characters which are these ones you see today, the reason is because Minecraft's lore itself fit so well with the mcu in my opinion cause of how similar their fantasy and sci fi sides fit together, and also because the trims that were added looked cool and I wanted to think they give their host powers once it was added to the armour, so there (I'll explain that next time when you or someone else asks)
Then a few months later which was during the coming of the new years of 2024, I watched god of war, and I never actually liked it at first but then when I did I loved it so much like the mcu (I watch the 2018 and 2022(?) Ones not the 2000s I'm not an og) and so I decided to add all both mcu, Minecraft, and gow to fit together in the world building cause it actually fits because of the characters we have.
In the story these characters you see today are in our year the present day, and because you think they are in the mcu you think they are on the main universe earth-616 but they are actually on a world of my own called earth-937, the reason gow is in here is because the characters that I will mention are gods as well 1 god who is good and 2 others who are bad (basically villains) and so I thought it would be a good combination because I also have a god realm in the story before this so I guess it makes sense, and mcu is part of this cause I think I already just explained if not just remind me and I'll explain it if I didn't
And finally to question 2:
The main character throughout all of this is a character named Francis (last name being Besong) who is the main person you will see a lot (and again main character) he is known to be: funny (and when I mean funny I mean not by jokes but by the way how he acts when he wants to make someone laugh) fun, responsible, respectful, trust worthy, loyal, (dumbass that can't solve math), and all the good guys traits yk, he's an ambi or omni vert. Francis in the group is known to be the main leader cause he was the first one in the group to become a super, only after a good 5 days his friends found out and became supers themselves with him cause for the past 5 days he was bad at doing his super deeds
Francis is also depressed like any other good superhero cause really who hasn't made their characters depressed its character development lol but francis overtime eventually becomes the strongest super in the group (only to find out something deep about him he didn't know himself, if your still curious just ask and I'll explain what it is)
So...those are your answers, again the world building is basically a wip and still being worked on but I don't plan changing it anytime soon, if you want to know the deeper lore of Francis then I can explain more about him and if you want you can ask about the other characters themselves feel free to don't be shy in fact I've been waiting and hoping people ask about my ocs and world building and such more and know more deeper about it. So looking forward to the asks please send some (please I'm begging) and thank you feel free to ask more idc if you ask as the same person again or anonymous because I am pleased and happy to answer them all and get you guys interested in them. Again thank you very much💐💫💫🤗

2024 New Year blog post.
Couple of hours ago I posted on my campaign blog about my intentions this year for that board, so I kind of wrote myself into a corner to produce one for here - not because I didn't want to write one, far from it - the pre-2024 post for this one was already written - I've just been incredibly lazy about posting.
Anyway, last year was pretty cool in most ways - stinging from disappointment in the world in 2022, and with stuff looking uncertain in my career I wanted to dedicate more effort to my community. I partially succeeded in my real life (less so online). My work life has stabilized mostly - still a bit hazy in some details but I don't think I'll need to worry about it for another half-decade or so, and by then it will be nearing retire age.
Okay, for this year coming and for this blog, I make a similar pledge I made for the other one - to post a bit more of my own content on here in terms of posts like this, or my TTRPG game mechanic musings. Now, I don't expect 2024 to be as dramatic as 2023 when it comes to things like the OGL crisis in the 'derived from the OGL' creative space. I think we all see Hasbro/WotC as being more in its twilight than in its golden age, so time to move on and focus on the wider space. Shocking no one, I do plan on switching to Tales of the Valiant when it comes out but not because it is "D&D5e done right!" but really just because it would provide a stable basis from which to make the homebrew changes I want for Nerath.
To free up the other blog to be all setting and chronicling the campaigns, I'm going to minimize the amount of game mechanic futzing I do on that one, and keep most of it here. Something I managed to do quite well - with a few notable exceptions (the 5 megapost series about problems with the conception of Tieflings in the initial 4e setting, and to a lesser extent some of the work I did with halflings and orcs).
Hopefully most of the game mastery stuff I write this year will be less topical drama about the industry and more about adapting ToV to what I want. Over the past month I've had an embarrassment of drafts and alpha-tests of RPG supplement rules to read and play with from my flurry of backing kickstarters earlier in the year. I have to say, the quality of these things, only in their alpha or beta draft states right now, is already pretty high quality. So I hope to maybe post reviews about those when things get a bit closer to their release dates. I know I am already fully implementing one book pretty much as-is in its current entirety into my campaign.
I also want to connect a bit more with the blogs I follow on this site, if only to thank them for their posts which have really inspired me, intimidated me, and encouraged me to put more effort into this blog. Thank you to you all.

Cinema Rose
Hello! This is Nana here with my secret santa gift for @softsungchan! It’s been a while since I’ve written anything, and this is not proof read ;-; but I really hope you enjoy this. Have a super merry Christmas and a happy new year! I’d also like to wish @lucaswithnoshirt and @bumblebeenct a really wonderful Christmas and say thank you for organising this awesome event :D.
Genres: Fluff, comedy (I really tried)
Word count: 2024
Warnings: A few swear words, mentions of a heart attack, and old cinemas? (I am not very good at these, if you find anything else I should add,
lease let me know and I’ll put them in ^^).
————————————————————————————————————————————————
Remixes of old christmas songs blasted from the speakers around him, and Taeil sang along quietly while he made his way to the old cinema at the end of the shopping district.
It hadn’t been long since school had ended and he’d been too bored to stay at home and too tired from the school year to make plans with others.
So, he decided to walk around the places he always went to, but never paid any attention to. Like the shopping district he walked through on his way to school.
He’d heard from Taeyong, a junior he knew from middle school, about an old cinema that played christmas movies during the holidays for free. Taeil was skeptical at first. Playing movies for the whole month of December for free?
After some reconnaissance (read: asking his parents), he’d found that the place was apparently so old that the carpets smelled like caramel popcorn and old socks, and the lights flickered if you stayed after 7pm. They were surprised that it was even still open because of how decrepit the outside looks.
So, his initial impression of the old cinema hadn’t been the best, and he’d shrugged away any thoughts of visiting it.
Until today, that is.
His parents were out on a gift buying spree for their relatives, and his younger sister had been dragged along, which she wasn’t happy about, judging by her fierce grumbling as she slammed the car door shut when they were leaving.
So that meant that he had escaped the drudgery that was Christmas shopping, but he’d also been left at home alone with effectively nothing to do.
He’d finished playing all his games during the school year, instead of studying of course. There was also no way he’d actually be responsible and look over material for next year so he could get ahead of his classes. Which left him with only a few options:
He could go back to sleep, or restart some random game and play it all over again, or he could just wander around outside and find something to do.
‘Right.’ He thought to himself as he grabbed a jacket, his phone and house keys,
‘Guess I’ll just walk around.’
—————————————————————-
He’d walked around most of his neighbourhood, and without realising it, his feet lead him on the familiar path of the local shopping district. It was usually a bustling place, full of loud voices calling out to customers, and children playing around.
Today was no different and Taeil, who’d spent his whole holidays so far inside, found the change of pace refreshing. Despite the chilly weather and the fact that he really wasn’t wearing nearly enough layers for how cold he felt, he was enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of the street.
Shutting his mind off, he was content to explore the streets around him.
——————————————————————————————————
You stood slouched at the counter, face blank and head rested in your hands. You drummed your fingers against your cheeks and let out a long sigh.
Burying your head into your hands and groaning softly, you wondered to yourself why you got yourself into this in the first place.
When your uncle had asked you to work at the old cinema for the holidays, you’d initially been okay with it.
After all, it was quick money and, knowing how bad the sales were, you wouldn’t need to interact with people that much.
You valued your space after all, and serving customers was never really something you felt happy doing. Plus, it was fun to have the place to yourself for most of the day, and you were never low on snacks to eat.
In hindsight, you should have predicted the boredom that would come with standing around for the whole day. Even with your phone, there were only so many times you could refresh Twitter and Instagram and find something interesting to look at.
Day in and day out, you were stuck in the dark cinema with flickering lights and musty carpets, and it was slowly driving you insane.
You bit your lip and creased your eyebrows, mulling over if it would be that big of a deal to just leave the counter and go home. It was nearly closing time anyway, and you couldn’t imagine what poor fool would come to this dusty cinema when it was almost Christmas.
‘Everyone’s busy with decorating and gift buying, no one’s even gonna come here.’
You told yourself.
With your conscience cleared and stomach empty, you gathered as much popcorn as you could fit in the largest container, locked the counter and headed outside.
——————————————————————————————————
Taeil stared at the sign in front of him.
‘Cinema Rose’s Merry Christmas special event! For the whole month of December, watch a movie for free!’
It read.
He wondered how he managed to end up here, of all places. Especially after he’d promised himself so many times that he wouldn’t bother. Then he wondered if he even remembered the way he came.
‘Shit,’ he thought to himself
‘How am I gonna get home?’
He took a deep breath and looked around frantically, trying to find a familiar looking path. All of the streets looked new to him.
Finding nothing he recognised, he was about to pull out his phone when he heard the entrance to the cinema open.
His head whipped to face the doors and he saw a girl around his age in a baggy uniform carrying an obscene amount of popcorn in her hands. Her back was facing him and she looked like she was trying to lock the door.
‘She must work here! Nice, I can ask her for directions!’
So he mustered up his courage and cleared his throat and called out to the girl.
“E-excuse me, I’m a bit lost, could you please help me?” He cursed himself for his shaking voice.
The girl turned around and stared at him for bit with a confused expression, then blinked and replied,
“O-oh, yeah, sure! Where did you want directions to?” Her soft voice was gentle when she spoke to him, and Taeil was a bit flustered. She wasn’t only pretty, but had a cute voice too?
The same could be said for you.
You hadn’t noticed him standing in front of the cinema at first, so you were a bit startled when he suddenly spoke to you.
You turned to see who it was, and nearly had a heart attack. A boy around your age you’d assume, with a large puffy jacket and kind looking eyes. He’d appeared so suddenly that you were surprised.
He was so pretty you were shocked stiff for a few seconds, but you snapped yourself out of it and hurried to reply.
You cursed yourself for stuttering and hoped he didn’t notice. His blank face at your reply made it seem like he didn’t. You thanked the heavens above and waited for him to continue speaking.
“R-right.” He cleared his throat and you stifled a snort. You both seemed to be nervous around each other.
“Do you know the shopping district near the local all-boys school? My neighbourhood is around there so I just wanted to know how I could get to that area?” He explained.
You nodded at his words.
Despite being a homebody, you did like to go on walks quite regularly, and you lived close to the cinema so you knew the area like the back of your hand. You were about to tell him the way when your brain stopped you.
‘Wait, _____,’ It said to you.
‘If you just give him directions, who knows when you’ll see him again! If you’ll see him again! Don’t lose this opportunity, you’re already lonely enough as it is!’
Your brain made a compelling last minute argument, and you couldn’t help but agree. Your family had been here for a long time, but you had grown up in a different city for most of your life.
You’d only come here to spend the holidays with your aunt and uncle because your parents were away on business. You hadn’t managed to make any friends, so all you could do was stay at home or walk around the cinema or your house.
You at least wanted to try to make friends before you left, then it wouldn’t be so hard to be in this town while you stayed until school started again.
Taeil was staring at you with a worried expression while you were going through your little crisis, and he tried calling out to you to get your attention. It didn’t work, so he stepped closer to you and waved a hand in front of your face, causing you to flinch and shout out in surprise.
“Woah! What the heck?”
“Sorry-“ Taeil said with wide eyes and a small frown on his face,
“I called out to you but you wouldn’t respond so I- sorry…” His voice was quiet and apologetic and you felt bad.
“No! No, not at all, it’s my fault! I just got distracted because I was trying to remember the way, sorry about that.” You told him. He seemed to believe your poorly thought out lie with the way his eyes brightened in understanding and his head nodded along.
You inwardly wiped the sweat off your forehead and tried to make the most friendly expression you could muster after a whole day of standing around with nothing to do.
“I’m not very good with explaining, so would it be ok if I just showed you the way? My house is nearby too, so it wouldn’t be out of my way.” You said to him cheerily. You hoped he’d buy this lie too.
He smiled widely at you, and you almost felt a bit bad about imposing your presence on this boy you’d just met.
‘But this is all for friendship! Maybe more, but don’t get so ahead of yourself!’
“That would be great, thanks! If you’re sure it won’t be a bother!” He chirped. You nearly melted inside at how polite he was being with you.
Returning his smile and asking him to follow you, you lead the way out of the cinema and made your way to the shopping district, trying your hardest to think of something to talk about. Which wasn’t as hard as you thought.
For every question you could ask, Taeil had an answer. You quickly learned that he was really easy to get along with, and he was great at carrying conversations. He was awkward at first, but you soon found a rhythm while talking and before you knew it you made your way to the shopping district near his house. Your footsteps slowed and you both halted at the entrance, a lull now forming when you both stopped talking.
You stayed silent, not knowing what to say, stuck in your head with worries that he might not want to talk anymore after this. That he only continued conversations with you because he was bored.
Taeil’s voice broke through your thoughts. His voice soft and nervous again as he asked you for your number.
Your face heated up at his straightforward request bit complied, albeit with shaky hands. After you both put your phones away, Taeil spoke again.
“Hey, ____. I had lots of fun with you today. So uh-“ He fumbled with the strings of his hood,
“Do you wanna meet tomorrow as well? I get that you have work, but I could go to the cinema and we could hang out there? O-only if you want to!”
His eyes looked anywhere but you and you could see in his smile that he was worried about you refusing.
You grinned and shook your head.
“I’d love to see you tomorrow, Taeil. I really had fun today too!”
You spoke in the most sincere tone you could and hoped he could sense it. With the way he beamed at you after you replied, you were sure he understood you.
With that you both parted ways, and walked home with smiles on your faces, and chests so warm no amount of snow could make you feel cold.

moviepass
Somebody recently told me about moviepass (where have I been?). I have no financial interest in the product. I'm neither an employee nor an investor. I haven't investigated the company ... maybe I should?
No, I'm just here to say that I signed up for the monthly plan and I've already used it a couple times. So far, it has worked.
Since I'm always the last person to know about stuff, I may be covering ground that everyone else already knows but I'll write about my experience anyway.
The premise of moviepass is that you pay a flat subscription fee and you can see one movie per day. For no more than $10 per month, it would be possible to see a movie each day of the monthly, limited to one per day. It doesn't include 3-D nor IMAX, but otherwise seems not to impose restrictions. You can see a film on the first day of release, for instance.
It also supports a lot of theaters including Regal, which is near me, and two favorite venues in Chicago, The Music Box and the Siskel Film Center.
First, I signed up for the monthly option versus yearly. I think that's the difference between $9.95 per month versus like $89 for the year. That's a considerable difference to be sure, but I haven't used it enough to know that I want to pre-pay for a year. I also admit that I wonder whether they'll be around a year from now, though I hope they are.
Okay, signup ... check ... now what?
Well, if you're near a theater that supports e-ticketing (I'm not), then supposedly you can use it right away. Otherwise, you need to wait until they send you their debit card. The card arrived quickly, I'd say in less than a week and for sure less than 10 days. I simply recall thinking it was fast ... no complaints.
After receiving the card, I needed to wait a few days until I actually had time to see a film. You download the app, locate the movie and time and pay with their debit card.
Of course, I didn't read any details except I also knew I had to be at the theater (within 100 yards of it) to finalize arrangements for the film.
When the day arrived, I went to the theater, said what movie I wanted, gave them my card, they swiped it ... it didn't work ... they said it was invalid or something. The girl at the counter asked if I had reserved the movie, and she admitted not really knowing anything about the app. I did try to reserve but it said my card was invalid ... hmmm.
Okay, now I'm trying to navigate the app and I find where it says my card expires in November, 2024. That's correct, so what's wrong? The error I received directed me to contact customer service, which I did, via phone, but that is just a recorded message that directs you to the app FAQS and how to open a ticket. So, no human interaction, huh?
Okay, so I open a ticket but it's like 1:45 on a Sunday afternoon so what are my chances?
Back to the FAQS. The thing I typically don't like about FAQS is that they are so basic, like, "Is the unit plugged in?" They never seem to address my issue, but this time, I hit on one that talked about activating my card and I knew I hadn't done that. It said that, after receiving the card, when I logged into the app, it would ask for the last 4 digits of my debit card in order to activate it.
I tried this several times but the pop-up box never came. I took screen shots of the error. Next, I decided to uninstall and reinstall the app. As luck would have it, I had already chewed through my 5 GB of high speed Internet (thank you, Instagram) and my speed was now slowed to the "why even bother?" rate. It said it would take 45 minutes to download the app!
I only live 1 1/2 miles from the theater, so I drove home and connected to my home WiFi from my driveway which significantly sped up the process.
Remember that I have to be within 100 yards of the theater so I drove back to see if it worked ... and ... nuts!
I then hit on the idea of going to their website and seeing if there was a way to activate my card from their site rather than the app. If I could get it done, I could still see the movie just an hour later than originally planned.
Okay, so ... really slow data rate ... getting to the site and navigating is very painful ... no way to activate from what I can tell ... but, I can open an incident!! I do that, include a picture of the error, tell them this is my first time and how frustrating this has been. Now it's time to wait.
So, instead, I did some grocery shopping for things I needed for Thanksgiving.
On the way home from the store, I figured I'd give it one more shot and there it was ... The mythical pop-up ... that thing I had begun to believe did not exist. So, now I can see the 5:00 PM show. When you reserve your movie, they tell you they've added credits to your card and you have 30 minutes to purchase your tickets.
I also have a Regal movie rewards card and when I was using the moviepass they asked if I had the rewards card. I assumed it couldn't be used since I'm not actually paying for the film. However, they took it and I received points, so ... bonus!
The cost of the ticket exceeded the monthly fee, so I'm already in the black.
I've used it once since, the following week, with no issues. I'll have time in December to use it several times. Frankly, there aren't enough movies that I really want to see that would motivate me to go to a theater more than 2 - 3 times a month. I also don't have that much time to burn. But if I average 1 - 2 films per month it will save me time.
If the startup headaches are the only negative, this may be well worth the price of admission!

Market FOMO Rising; Disney Plus Ultra
Market FOMO Rising; Disney Plus Ultra:
Mr. FOMO Risin’
If you ever needed clear proof that the stock market does not represent the U.S. economy, today provided it.
The U.S. Department of Labor announced that 6.6 million Americans filed for first-time unemployment benefits last week. The latest data bring the total of new claims to more than 16 million for the past three weeks.
That’s 10% of the U.S. workforce gone. Poof. Vanished into the novel coronavirus tainted air.
How did Wall Street react to this economic travesty? With a rally, of course.
But, in Wall Street’s defense, it was distracted by shiny objects — $2.3 trillion worth of shiny objects, to be precise.
To keep investors from looking behind the curtain, the Federal Reserve announced a $2.3 trillion lending package to support the economy. Fed Chairman Oz — er, Jerome Powell declared that the central bank will “provide as much relief and stability as we can.”
You can read all the nitty-gritty details here — including the Fed’s plan to buy junk corporate bonds. (This literally can’t go belly up, right?)
But Powell wasn’t alone in defending the U.S. economy. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told CNBC’s Squawk on the Street that the U.S. could open back up in May. Mnuchin noted that the Trump administration was doing “everything necessary that American companies and American workers can be open for business and that they have the liquidity that they need to operate their business in the interim.”
The Takeaway:
I want to believe, dear readers. I truly do.
I want to believe that, once the COVID-19 threat passes, everything will magically return to normal … that businesses will quickly rehire 16 million Americans and get us all back to work.
I want to believe that the Fed’s $2.3 trillion announcement, the Treasury Secretary’s appearance on a major financial TV show and the revelation of 6.6 million new jobless claims happening on the same day is just a coincidence. (Hint: It’s not.)
I also want to believe that the recent market rally is the start of a new bull market … that there’s no more risk left in the system … and that rainbows and monkeys will fly out of my … well, you get the picture.
Right now, if you’re following Great Stuff’s recommendations, you’re likely experiencing a heavy dose of “fear of missing out,” or FOMO. You’ve got that FOMO risin’. And it’s gonna keep on risin’.
But you and I, we didn’t just get into town about an hour ago. We know which way the wind blows.
We know that the economic bill for the COVID-19 shutdown has to come due sooner or later. Wall Street can ignore weekly jobless claims. It can ignore a trickle of economic data here and there — especially when the Fed chair and the Treasury Secretary are giving stump speeches.
What Wall Street can’t ignore is the flood of bad economic data that’s coming … or the wave of horrendous corporate earnings reports that will follow.
It will be interesting to see how much ammunition the Fed has left when the inevitable comes.

The Good: Disney Plus Ultra
My wife jokingly refers to The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) as a “people trap built by a mouse.” Judging by how crowded the company’s theme parks were before the COVID-19 shutdown, she’s not wrong.
With the launch of Disney+ last year, the mouse now has a digital trap as well. And boy, is it effective. According to Disney, its new streaming service now has 50 million paid subscribers, up from just 28.6 million in February. That’s a 75% jump in roughly two months!
The surprising growth even put the most bullish of analyst projections to shame. JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) predicted 40 million subs by the end of 2020. The end of 2020.
Disney is now on pace to easily top its original estimate of 60 million to 90 million Disney+ subscribers by 2024.
What’s more, the service just launched in India in February, and it expanded heavily across Europe in late March. That means more subscriber growth will come this year — especially with launches in Japan, Western Europe and Latin America coming later in 2020.
While Disney+ revenue won’t replace lost park revenue due to COVID-19, it puts the company in a leading position in the streaming market heading into a post-quarantine world.
DIS is high on Great Stuff’s list for a potential buy once things settle down.
The Bad: Not Enough Panic-Buying?
The COVID-19 outbreak was initially illustrated with images of shopping carts filled to the breaking point — mostly with toilet paper. Retailers clearly stood to benefit from the panic-buying, and today, we got a glimpse at one of panic-buyers’ biggest targets: Costco Wholesale Corp. (Nasdaq: COST).
Sales skyrocketed for Costco in March, with same-store sales spiking 12.1% on the month.
But analysts had their hopes set higher … much higher. The average consensus estimate for Costco’s March sales growth sits at 24.1%. So, despite seriously impressive sales growth, Costco still missed expectations.
Furthermore, Costco said that sales of non-essential products, such as electronics and apparel, hurt overall sales figures. Store hours and store closures due to COVID-19 also negatively impacted sales.
Now, if COST stock was down just because it missed some overinflated analyst figures, I’d say the shares are a bargain on today’s sell-off. However, we all know that 12.1% sales growth isn’t sustainable.
This is doubly true when you consider that 16 million Americans have now filed for unemployment. Costco will likely see sales growth decline — slowly due to stimulus efforts, but they will still decline.
In fact, we may have seen the peak for consumer spending this year, and that doesn’t bode well for COST.
The Ugly: Grounded
Airline stocks soared today. Investors likely banked on hopes that the U.S. will be open for business by next month — thanks Mnuchin!
But, if investors think that there won’t be plenty of turbulence ahead, they’re sorely mistaken.
Right now, airlines such as Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL), American Airlines Group Inc. (Nasdaq: AAL) and United Airlines Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: UAL) are all counting on a government bailout. They’re losing tens of millions of dollars a day due to COVID-19 quarantines and travel bans.
Roughly $29 billion was earmarked for the airline bailout, but none of that cash is flowing. According to reports, the Department of the Treasury is asking for more financial information before letting the spice flow.
In fact, the data requested appear more akin to a loan process than a cash grant application, according to sources.
There are two takeaways here: First, bailout cash for airlines isn’t flowing out right now, and it probably won’t for a while longer. Second, that cash will come with more strings attached than airlines and investors expect.
This isn’t a carte blanche bailout. And with traffic expected to remain low even after the all-clear sounds, airline stocks will certainly get hammered once again.
It’s that time again! Today, we dive headfirst into the Great Stuff inbox and see what you and your fellow readers are pondering this week.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?
I think so, Mr. Great Stuff, but if they called them “sad meals” no one would buy them.
Let’s get right to it:
Quick Climbs for Fast Times
Just a quick thought- If it’s the fastest time to reach a bear market, what is stopping it from turning into the fastest time to reach a bull market? After the virus issues subside of course. Everything appears to be happening at such a faster pace these days.
— Bill M.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Bill! Now, as time has lost all meaning and distinction since my kids started staying home from school, everything’s passing faster and slower at the same time.
Anyway, here’s the one thing that can prevent an even faster leap back into a bull market: uncertainty. It’s a day trader’s delight but an investor’s kryptonite. We just hit 10% unemployment at the end of a supposed “relief rally” that included a 50% Dow retracement.
If that doesn’t scream “uncertainty” ahead, nothing does.
On Idiots and Followers
We have alot of idiots fallowing the leader of the idiots.
— Tom D.
The best part is that I can’t tell which political, economic or health figure you’re talking about … and yet, I’m still strangely inclined to agree with you, Tom.
Crown Castles Made of Sand
Hello. Some of my most recession resistant stocks: AMT and CCI are holding steady … at least so far. Both also pay dividends.
— Brent J.
I want to hark back to an older email, dated March 17. Back in the thick of March madness, we were talking about crash-proof stocks and how to weather the storm.
Don’t worry, I won’t spoil the rest of your ultra secret picks, Brent! (They’re good dogs, Brent! It’s an old meme, sir, but it checks out.) Though, I see you have the 5G trend covered from the cell tower side of things. And I sure hope you held on — if not added to your position!
Both American Tower Corp. (NYSE: AMT) and Crown Castle International Corp. (NYSE: CCI) have already bounced back to February’s pre-devastation levels. If any of you readers out there timed that rebound, nicely done! If not, you might want to wait for more volatility (and oh, it’s a-comin’) to find a better entry price.
(Not sure where to start with investing in 5G? Click here now!)
