The amount of cassarian shippers who are flooding my inbox is just goofy at this point so I’ll just answer this last one.
Honey, babyfacing is not inherent grooming or pedo*helia. We are talking about two teens/young adults who have a carry the specific stud/twink dynamic (which honestly, is not very common with Varigo as they are both mostly depicted as two nerds in love). You can find this dynamic in any ship- sunshine/gloom or sunshine/grump is a thing yaknow?
I’m not saying that Varian cannot be a strong tall man in this dynamic with Hugo, but using the whole “age up/Varian is now big and burly and masculine” excuse to ship cassarian or varipunzel is just plain wrong because as I’ve said 2028183837291 times, ITS GROOMING!!
I will say that this does being an interesting point worth of discussion. The implication that Varian can only be “feminine” counterpart with Hugo is a bit heteronormative just as much as implying that Varian can only be a “real man” that “makes his own decisions and isn’t pushed around” if he is seen romantically with Cass or Rapunzel (which to me, sounds a lot like ‘the conquest of older women to prove your masculinity’ sorta thing [especially when you note that Cass is more on the masculine spectrum and more of *challenge* (I hate that term, it’s gross *shivers*)]
Then again, queer dynamics are much much different than heterosexual relationship dynamics, but Varian being a ‘twink’ or ‘the more feminine’ counterpart to Hugo doesn’t equate it to him being a stupid ass kid who’s a doormat and ‘can’t be a man’ or be assertive, and if you’re using Cassarian or Varipunzel to make the argument that Varian can only be a assertive masculine man if paired up with women much older than he is idk what to tell you other than ur using *very weird* heteronormative standards to make Varian -a character you claim to love- a much more shallow person that he simply isn’t.
If anything (and from the info I know about Varigo) Hugo is a big support to Varian in terms of how he wants to grow as an alchemist and as an innovative individual. That’s what makes the ship sweet. Cassarian and Varipunzel in comparison is just very shallow even if you manage to ignore the weird grooming and age gap.
Also come on anyone can agree that Varipunzel is more of a sibling-like ship.

4am rant incoming-
Currently in a heated debate with C*ssarian supporters (all adults btw) and I do not get why it’s so hard for them to understand that it’s a disgusting ship, that is extremely harmful.
Even when they’re aged up, it’s still wrong because you’re only aging Varian, a child character, up, so you can ship him with a character that’s already an adult, and you’re also implying that Cassandra essentially gr**med him.
Not only this, but there are kids in this fandom, kids the same age as Varian or even younger, who’s brains haven’t fully developed yet, it worries me that they’ll see C*ssarian and other ships like it, and think that that kind of relationship, with an adult is ok, when it’s definitely not.
The adults in this fandom have got to ensure that the parts of the fandom that are meant for kids, are safe for kids. We’ve got to protect kids from seeing this kind of stuff, meaning that people have got to stop parading it around and excusing it.
No, it is not shippers just “having their fun”, it is borderline creeper behaviour.
The same goes for ships like V*ripunzel, Vari*gene, etc.
C*ssarian seems to be the most popular, especially amongst adult fans, which is deeply disturbing.
Stop making Varian a victim of abuse and grooming and stop making Cassandra into a creep, when she clearly isn’t one. It’s disgusting and harmful.

I'ma gonna make some people mad, but here I go.
Most of the optional ships I have seen/read/heard of for Varian that are not Hugo or maybe Nuru, though to me she reads incredibly lesbian, are really huge proships. I am, of course, talking about cannon characters (You wanna ship him with an OC, go ahead. I don't have to approve but I can remember being young and wishing I had an OC to give my favorite boy-things). For the most part, the characters that are available to him are of a significant age-gap and power-gap, and that's not a good thing.
I feel like it needs to be remembered that so many of these women/men being shipped with him (though in the lists I've seen that don't include Hugo, the only guy they really offer is Eugene, so still a huge proship) are adults. Which is point number 1. No matter who that person is- Cassandra, Rapunzel, Eugene, whoever- going after the 14 year old, even after a gap of time to allow him to age, would be considered grooming.
Why? Well, largely because of just the three I named, they met him as a child (yes, fourteen year olds still count as children in the eyes of the law) and he had sort of a hero-worship attitude for them at first. He had a full on crush on Cass, respected Raps for being a princess and also the fact that she really thinks his alchemy is cool- which seems to be rare in his world-, and Eugene was probably his first gay crush. That puts them in a position to use that respect he has for them in their favor to gain his interest.
So, Cassarian/Cassandrian has a woman literally almost ten years older than him coming back and getting into a relationship with a person she knows had a crush on her when he was a child makes dating him in the future abusive. The reason for this is because she is leveraging this information to get a relationship based on a child’s feelings, which is super creepy. If this was a male YouTuber and a fan, you wouldn’t be shipping this.
Rapunzel is a princess, and knew she was when she met him, so she gets the Cass rundown plus the fact that the power balance between them is insane. Let not even mention the fact that those two are so high in the sibling vibes category that it makes it an extra step of creepy. And is anyone actually shipping Eugene with him? I kind of feel like that’s a fake ship that angry people use as an example of why we shouldn’t have gays in kids’ shows.
The second point is that most of the other characters that end up on those lists are either small children- like 10-12, and he’s 14-16. I don’t know if you know this, but Varian is kind of an exception to the rule, when it comes to 16 year olds hanging out with younger kids. He’s still learning to friend, which is how he ends up with such a diverse group of friends.
I’ve seen Vex in these lists, and she barely wanted anything to do with the main group, and Varian’s villain schtick wasn’t who he really was. We all have a villain arc as people, and seldom is it the person we long to be or would be on purpose if given the choice. Usually, like Varian, we end up pretty ashamed of that part of our lives. But the characters listed that don’t know him probably wouldn’t want that kind of a relationship with him, nor would they be likely to hold similar desires and ideals- this kind of thing can be a deal breaker in relationships.
This said, we also kind of need to talk about leaving Hugo off the list. Is this because he’s from a program that was denied by Disney? Possibly, but it needs to be said. If you want to post about partners for Varian, you need to state “out of the canon characters” because, honey, there are so many non-canon choices. Hugo is just the one that the writers chose. Which is kind of important too, since they built him. They know Varian better than we do.
Being anti about gay ships but fine with straight proships is a rant for another day. But I got to a point with Cassarian that I just needed to point out the genuine nope surrounding it.

I am not sorry for anything said in this post. Though I will warn you it talks about pedofilic ships, specifically Cassarian, and has some cuss words in it. So scroll if you don't wanna read that.
So, for the past couple months, begining from the begining of December I have been in the tangled fandom. Tangled the series is an amazing series and I fell in love!
So of course I joined the fandom, now the fandom isn't a huge problem thankfully. But there is something I have come to address.
Such as the problem with ships.
In this fandom I see people keep shipping a 14 year old boy, with adults. Only because the boy had a crush on one of the adults before, and because there is no one his age to ship him with.
This is fucking disgusting. So let's go through why it isn't okay to ship these things.
Cassarian
This is a ship containing of Cassandra, and Varian. First off, in season one Varian has a crush on her, and let's be honest, he is a teenage boy! He will find it easy to crush on someone much older then him! In the show though, that crush stays a crush for a little while. By season three I don't really think he has a crush on her any more, it hasn't been shown at least.
Cassandra is eight years older then Varian. Varian is either 15 or 16 by the end of the show. So he still isn't old enough. How I figured this out, was because Varian started out as 14, and Rapunzel was 18. Cassandra said she was four years older then Rapunzel, so it makes her eight years older than Varian. So pedofilia
But then people make the excuse of age AUs. To me this is messed up, because if you know a character is underaged, and the only way to ship your ship is to age them up? That shows you know the ship is bad in the first place, but you don't care. By aging the character up you are ignoring canon. Now, I'm not saying AUs are bad, I'm just more grossed out by the fact these people know it's bad so they have to age them up. I'm personally more okay with you aging up the characters correctly, such as still being eight years apart. But no matter what that ship is not okay, because in canon, Varian is still a minor.
Let's say for a second that the ship is okay to ship. There is no huge age gap. If that's the case then this would be a personal opinion. Varian tried to kill her in season one. Cassandra has kind of always treated him poorly, and she also kidnapped him in season 3. They both have treated eachother poorly, they aren't that of for eachother. This is a personal opinion, so if their age was okay to ship, then I wouldn't ship it but you could.
Please note I will not go after Cassarian shippers. I'm just hoping to educate them with this post. I have liked some posts belonging to Cassarian shippers. These posts were usually art pieces that did not have Cassarian in them. I still respect these shippers as people. I just hope they understand why the ship is wrong. If they feel like it, they can block me for saying this stuff, I won't feel butt hurt about it.
I was not gonna say anything, but this ship grosses me out so much. I had to at this point seeing as it is everywhere. When I'm looking for fanfics, and I find one that's unknowingly mistagged, but I read it anyways. Only to find out it's Cassarian, I fucking hate it. Because Varian is a child, Cassandra is an adult.
If you ship Cassarian please take this post into consideration. Like I said before I will not come after you, just this post. You can block me, I won't care. If you try to argue your reasoning to me, you will be blocked and ignored. There is no reasoning with the truth.
Now that I got that out of the way. I feel much better now. That's the only reason I made this post, was because I felt sick by the content created for this ship.
Also usually I won't bash others for shipping something in a post. But if that ship is wrong I will, such as my post for Remrom, in the Sanders sides fandom.
No matter what you ship, even if it's wrong. I hope you all have a good day/night.

Cassarian - Cass x Varian - DO NOT SHIP A MINOR WITH A GROWN ADULT - Listen, Varian has a healthy crush on a strong older woman. It's normal. But if you honestly want Cassandra to reciprocate those feelings then I have a SERIOUS problem with that.
Cassunzel - Cass x Rapunzel - I HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS SHIP - Let's talk about this. Not only does Rapunzel literally call Cass her sister (I mean they aren't sisters but I can see the whole thing with them being stepsisters and I'm not cool with that I don't care if they were raised apart). Also Eugene. Like my dudes. Eugene loves Rapunzel more than his own life and vice versa. Eugene would not share Rapunzel in a threesome. He wouldn't. The only way for you to get Cassunzel to happen is to make Eugene go completely out of character or for you to get rid of Eugene completely. In which I am still not okay with it.
You might think I just hate Cass and no it has nothing to do with that. If they had brought out a viable character for her to be with then maybe. I know the artists made her have lesbian tendencies so if you headcanon her as Bi or a Lesbian then you are welcome to it.
