Emotional Motion Sickness
Grief was a boulder tied around your waist, destined to be dragged uphill forever.
At first so dense and all-consuming that every motion was a slog that left your bones achy, as if you were carrying the dead on your very back, parading them along day after day as everyone tried to look around the rotting corpse that hung heavy over her shoulders.
Anna had learned that, over time whether it be through practice or sheer force of will, grief would eventually wither down into a pebble. And while that made it easier to get through each day, it also meant that it was less predictable. She was never quite sure what it was that made it snap against the ground in a new and particularly painful way until it was too late and she'd already been smacked in the skull with it.
Surprisingly lately it had been the pebble that was her Mother. These days she felt like she found her in quick flashes in the mirror, in the freckles of her aging hands, in the way she laughed - even if these days it felt more like hearing a song playing off in the distance somewhere, familiar but difficult to make out clearly. All things that made perfect sense with Jesse's wedding looming ever closer.
The hands of time never stopped moving, Mel and Beau were getting older and she dreaded to think that they'd be gone before she got married or had kids. It was bad enough she hadn't been able to give her Father any of those treasured moments before it was too late - maybe it had been selfish of her to not have simply settled into a life with Max; surely she'd be married with 2 kids running around by now, too preoccupied with a totally different set of problems to be so caught up in the daily slog of simply trying to exist from day to day like some sort of ghost floating from room to room.
Maybe she could just grow up to be the cool older lady on the block who held large holiday festivities for people who had nowhere else to go - figures even in her wildest fantasy she still amounted to someone whose sole purpose was to take care of other people. Was it really so hard to find someone who could both love that part of her personality, while still realizing how desperate she was for a break from it?
Someone who would could lift all the stress with a simple I know you can do it, but let me.
"Hm? Sorry" she smiled apologetically as she moved around in the dress, practicing some goofy dance moves and throwing some finger guns just to make sure the dress sat perfectly right, "I think it's perfect, thank you!" she said, popping off the high heels she'd brought with her, ready to switch back into her regular clothes.
"Knock, knock!" Mel's voiced chimed in its usual singsong way as she poked her head in, "just wanted to see how my girl was doing?"
Anna smiled warmly at her, "I'm great! Dress fits perfectly! I still have some stuff to finish before the luncheon - you don't think Jess will mind if I slip out a little early, right?" she asked, sliding her bag over shoulder.
"You sure you don't need any last minute help? I bet Ca-"
"Oh no, that's okay. I've got it!" she assured the woman, cutting her off as politely as she could, already knowing exactly where she was headed with that line of thinking. Mel had already blown up her phone with texts as soon as she'd heard about the two of them making up. Who could blame her though, as a Mother it made sense that she'd want all her kids getting along - and really what was Anna if not a child that they'd all but adopted, just with less paperwork involved.
Plus there was no way she was about to drag Cam into anything related to a wedding when she could only assume it was already hard enough if him and Cristina really were separating. Had he used that word, or had she just made the assumption based on how he'd phrased it? Either way, it was clear that Cristina and weddings were a raw nerve for him - at least just gauging on the way he seemed so suddenly uncomfortable when he'd stepped foot into her house last - and she wasn't about to press it.
Clearly they both still had a lot to figure out.

Anna to admit she was really proud of what she'd managed to pull together. What had once been the remains of a bridal luncheon bomb that had gone off in her house, had now been transformed meticulously - at least as far as anyone was concerned, but she figured no one would be wandering around into the guest room to dig through all the boxes of crap that she'd have to end up donating.
She always had a habit of doing too much - or at least she'd been told that over the years time and again as if it were some sort of negative. It never really made sense to her, if you cared for someone then weren't you supposed to do things to make them feel seen and cared for.
It felt like most people didn't appreciate how quickly she was willing to fully immerse herself in a new person she'd met who she really liked. It was almost as if she were trying to fast-forward through the awkward getting to know stage and straight into that familiar comfort that came from years of intimately knowing each other. More than that, really, she was looking for the ease that had come so naturally with Cam, even when they were kids it never felt like she had to be anything other than her most authentic self.
Even now, when it had been 3 years of silence, it was still easier with him than it had been with anyone else.
As if on cue, her phone chimed again and she couldn't help but to smile down at it as she typed off another quick reply to him. It was nice to be making plans and laughing again, even if some small part of her still felt like she was waiting for the other shoe to drop - for him to go back and change his mind and disappear all over again.
Thankfully she didn't have much time to dwell on the thought as her door swung open, bringing with it the chaos and chatter that usually accompanied any large gathering of excited women.
It was nice being flooded by so much activity, so many different things happening that she barely had time to do much of anything except float from table to table offering assistance until she eventually relented and sat down long enough to actually participate rather than feel like it was her job to hover.
Popping a completed flower crown on her head, she headed back inside sneaking a quick peek at her phone again, a laugh that was a little too loud broke free from her gut at the stupid meme Cam had just sent her, as she shot off another quick response. She was just about to set the phone down when the familiar voice made her feel like she'd just been caught red-handed,
"Don't you look chipper," Hannah teased, leaning across the counter to study Anna, "that my idiot brother?" she asked, her head dipping toward the phone.
"Be nice! He apologized and we're on good terms..."
"Psht, yeah, what'd he do? Pull the ole grilled cheese move?" Hannah scoffed,
"... Well yeah, but when you say it like that it sounds cheap. It was nice that he remembered, okay? And he apologized and we're fine now, so...
"You don't think - "
"I think," Anna cut her off before she could get any further, "that it's nice to have my friend back after a really long time, and I think that I'd be just as happy if it were you or Jesse who suddenly came back after so long because I think we all make mistakes and deserve the chance to make up for them," she said mostly into the half-empty glass of rosé, the familiar toastiness of the alcohol settling in as she reached for her phone again, "do you think I should ask him to go to the rehearsal dinner with me?" she blurted out, reaching for her phone.
She was just about to add that it was merely an idea of convenience since they lived so close to each other and were going to the same place - why not just take one car and save on gas and mileage and...
it did't get very far before Hannah was already out of her seat, grabbing the phone out of her hands and chucking it on the couch as she dragged Anna back into the party "yeah well I think I'm cutting you off."

"Are you sure you don't need any more help, sweetie?" Mel asked, bringing in the last round of dishes from outside.
"Nope! I'm all set here. You guys get going before it gets any later," she assured the woman. It was clear Hannah had been ready to go for a while by the way she kept glancing at her watch and checking her phone. Anna knew by now that Hannah liked to be home before El's bedtime to tuck him in, and they were already pushing it, especially with still having to drop Mel off.
"Oh hey, don't forget these!" she chased after the woman holding out a bag full of leftovers she'd packed away. She'd spent far too much time and energy on making so many things from scratch only to have to toss them at the end of the night. At least that's what she told herself - that it was a practical decision and not one based on the sheer hope that Cam might come across them and that they would offer him yet another reminder of how nice it really could be to be home again.
Of how nice it could be to let yourself be cared for again.

Alfred IS an incredibly fascinating and kind and complex character. I really would love to see them capture that side of him, where he's looking after his allies, ect.

Aneurin navigated through the corridors of Northknot University, his footsteps echoing softly against the polished floors. With purpose in his stride, he eventually arrived at Anna's office, the door slightly ajar. Pausing at the threshold, he knocked as he pushed the barrier open. He cleared his throat, a subtle signal of his presence. "Excuse me," As he stood in the now open doorway, he met Anna's gaze with a sense of purpose. "Do you have a minute?" he inquired, his voice calm yet tinged with a hint of anticipation, awaiting her response. ( @nctural )

Heyoo, same VickyChesGlam anon here. About the Anna and Glam thing, aaah man, it's complex. I personally do not care for Anna at all, not to say i hate her, but I don't rly have a reason to like her at all, or to want to like her. Plus, I very violently dislike Ches/Anna, simply cuz i am incapable of understanding HOW they even slept with each other. I adore Ches to hell and back but Ches is the embodiment of what Anna would hate in a man, flirty, playboy, overly confident, cocky... I like Anna when she's not being paired up with Ches, i like her potential with Vicky and her relationships with literally anyone else but Ches, cuz i cannot feel chemistry or history from them (plus, the cliche of "the main couple both have best friends and the best friends get together too!" Is... Hm, well. I GUESS. Idk if you see what I mean).
I think Glam and Anna's relationship is much more fun as animosity and sass filled interactions, simply cuz i think Glam SASSING or being passive aggressive to someone would be so entertaining and funny to see. Anna was been shown to hate Glam's GUTS in Vicky's Qna and Glam is always unfeeling or apathetic in every sketch or questions that even hints at Anna he had in his QnA, so i personally think Anna and Glam being sassy and disliking each other, having funny banter, trying to one up the other would be so.... Cool to see. Like Glam emoting and rolling his eyes at her, smiling while saying smth very passive aggressive, letting annoyed sighs when she's around... Idk, Glam disliking her and outwardly showing it!! And Anna giving it RIGHT back!! Idk, i may just be hungry for playful animosity interactions in MF, so it may just be me that wants this to be their dynamic.

Ok let me explain: We don't know everything about the characters right now! Except maybe Glam! So I have a couple similar-but-different versions of them in my head? They're slippery like a water slide! Like rolling a bowling ball in the adjacent lane! Because there's a bunch of headcanons you can make, right? We only have what we have of the show right now, and various sketches that might not even be canon by the time that plot point in the show is reached!
So like! I also don't really care about Anna? She shows up, like, twice? But! There's so many places she could go! And we already know Alina and Dima loveeee parallels so I'm stringing together characters with red thread like I'm talking about aliens!
Ches/Anna is like... they aren't DATING? They just hooked up. So they're not really TOGETHER? They're probably not together BECAUSE of what you said: Ches is everything Anna hates! So I get that!
THAT'S WHY I LOVE YOUNG GLAM SO MUCH THOUGH!!! It isn't healthy for HIM but that's ok he's ok now. <3 But he's so sassy and snippy and it's still THERE: just only when someone messes with his kids or Victoria usually! And of course it started out as a trauma response so it's still there but we're not going to talk about that in this post or else it would go on for 5 years. But yeah you're right it would be SO funny, I think realistically he would only be mean to her out of earshot/eyeshot of everyone else. Because then they'd be like "what the FUCK Glam???" otherwise. Quick enough for her not being able to react until way later, even. But that's still fun!!!
Vicky was shown not to be buddy-buddy with Anna as Ches is with Glam though? As in "oh, it's just you... fuck you, whatever, ugh..." so maaaaybe we'll get more of this through them? I think Vicky is supposed to be explored more in this season compared to Glam and the last one, so!!! I'm excited for that!!!

You deserve more than this.
Anna had never been particularly brave - that had always been Cam's area of expertise.
He'd always had this uncanny ability of being able to push her out of her comfort zone, and she trusted him so wholly that she would have followed him to the very end of the earth, secure in the knowledge that he'd never let her fall over the edge of it.
Max was an entirely different story.
He was rain in springtime, cake at a birthday party, taco Tuesday.
So reliable you could almost set your watch by it - which was a nice change for Anna, who had a pretty awful track record with men. Eager for an ounce of the tenderness she'd been fed through the many romance stories she'd consumed over the years, she often found herself all too willing to bend into uncomfortable positions to fit into smaller, more palatable versions of herself. In some ways, she had almost - foolishly - tricked herself into thinking that she possessed the unique skill to mold herself into whoever they needed her to be.
Something that was much easier to do when Cam had become more and more preoccupied with his new life now that he was married. The biggest part of even considering moving to the city was the promise of more time with him - okay really it was about deciding if she would finally take the plunge and start a serious life with Max - but it seemed like every attempt she'd made to try and get together with Cam was either met with Cristina's voice on the other end of the line, or with her flaunting him like some sort of trophy she'd won. Did marriage mean you were no longer allowed to spend alone time with your friends? I mean, what could Cristina possibly be so worried about.
Cam had clearly left her behind a long time ago.
Her stomach churned again at the thought, the anxiety of it all making her lay back down, turning to look out at the city below from the large window next to the bed.
Frankly, Anna didn't like the city. It was too loud, too fast, too mean. No one smiled at each other here, time was a commodity and if you didn't move fast and talk fast, you were left behind. She often wondered how it was possible to feel so alone in a place that thrummed with so much activity at all hours.
And then there was Dad, his health had been so up and down lately. Could she really leave him behind now when he needed her? Who knew how much longer she'd have with him.
Anna found herself crying into the pillow, feeling like her heart was crumbling in her chest at the bitter taste of grief that she'd become all too familiar with.
None of this was fair, not to her, and definitely not to Max
Sweet, lovable Max. It would be so easy to let herself sink into his calm waters, to settle into the current and let him guide the rest of their life. She could almost see it like a blurry mirage in the distance, but she knew if she tried to toggle the frequency to get a better picture, it was never his face on the other side. They wanted different things, down to their core, and she knew he'd be too willing to give himself up for her. That was her job.
Determined, she quickly rose to her feet, grabbed the nearest suitcase and began to pack as quickly as she could, lest she get caught in the act.
She was just finishing up the note, when he came through the door, eyes landing on the suitcase and then on her, his shoulders deflating.
"I'm sorry, Max, I tried. But you deserve so much more than this," she gestured at herself, "and I'm not saying that in a - oh please console me and tell me all the ways that you love me - way, because I know. I know you do. And I do, love you, but I think... I think we're just... we want different things..."
"I'll move, we can start over somewhere else..." he almost pleaded and it made her heart break, as if this wasn't hard enough for someone who had never been the one to break things off first.
Anna gently touched the side of his face, reaching up to kiss his other cheek, "I'm sorry. But I promise, one day you are going to make a lucky girl so so so happy, but I just don't think that girl is me."
Not wanting to linger in the moment any longer, she took one last look at what her future could have been before shutting the door.
It didn't hit her until she reached the elevator that she didn't really have anywhere to go now, her flight wasn't until tomorrow, and the choice to leave Max had come so quickly she - for once - realized she didn't have a plan.
For a brief moment she thought of calling Cam, but as her finger hovered over his name, she sighed. She couldn't keep being his problem now when he had a life of his own to tend to. This time she would have to collect the pieces of her own broken heart.

It is extremely difficult to design modern outfits for Alfonse though idk what it is. Sharena will look good in anything from flannel docs lesbian outfit to cute overalls to something sporty to high femme dresses (tbh I still wanna draw her in one of my fave old dresses ..) but Alfonse. There are def a few routes you can take keeping his character/personality in mind and I think they look good/are super cute and make sense but like... esp for me personally, thinking of the v specific way I draw/stylize him...
AH. MAYBE. MAYBE I FIGURED IT OUT BC I HAVE NO PROBLEM DESIGNING OUTFITS FOR HIM IN FEH CONTEXT...... it's cause that bitch is always wearing tights and long shirts that (esp depending on how you draw it) border on being dress-like to straight up robes/skirt-like garments WHICH makes sense for him in universe bc that's p standard wear for men in Askr, in the Order of Heroes specifically. Like
Seliph's resplendent stands out to me as a huge example of this, and you can kinda see it in Corrin's too! Though I do think resplendents often take a lot from the chara's base outfit (both standard and resplendent Seliph having tunics, both Corrins having leggings ect). But speaking of Corrin, espp the lengthening of that bit of fabric at Corrin's hip, looks a lot like Gustav's garments!
Who may be a better measure for men's dress in Askr (normal attire, for a king anyway, and a cultural festival outfit). But I do also think you can glean some details off of resplendent designs too!
Also actually.
This Day of the Life comic that acknowledged Sharena's absence from the DoD banner (BITE BITE KILL KILL SO MUCH HATRED IN THE WORLD‼️‼️‼️) implies that their outfits may have been identical, just in their respective signature colors (blue and pink). And even looking at Alfonse and Sharena's base art, they have a lot in common!
And looking at Seliph and Corrin again, the puffy sleeves seen on Sharena and Henriette aren't necessarily gendered traits. ACTUALLY.... GUSTAV HAS THEM TOO! Alfonse's outfit is an outlier sleeve design wise!
Which is to say, there aren't actually a lot of strict gender differences in attire here. A lot of the clothing looks/feels androgynous esp when viewed through a modern lense (like I'm sure there's a lot of real-world historical inspo that goes into the designs, I just know fuck all about that LMFAO 😅). And esppp the way I've come to draw Alfonse a lot, I do emphasize what reads as femme -- giving him longer shirts, simplifying the strappy armor on his thighs into. Over the knee socks. Over the leggings/tights. 🫣 And that's not even getting into the knee high boots and heels!!!!
WHICH IS. Actually SO FUCKING DIFFICULT. To translate into modern fashion esp typical standard men's fashion, in a way that still feels true to him as well... bc I do believe in femme/androgynous Alfonse supremacy 😤 But he is ALSO. SO IMPORTANTLY. He is VERY MUCH just some guy who is heavily defined by the role he's been put in. Which is also kind of difficult to sort out, what Would he wear, if the standards were completely different and also if he was choosing for himself?
SINCE. I'M CERTAIN idk if I wanna dig for it but -- I'm CERTAIN all his outfits have been picked For him to some degree. The Order of Heroes outfit is a uniform, the bunny outfit is implied/stated to be picked by Sharena. The yukatas in their duo are 1) Hoshidan and 2) I think Anna was the one who picked them? Might be wrong on that, but I do feel like there's a castle dialogue about it. And of course, the DoD outfits are implied to be cultural Askran wear, and going back to that comic -- it seems neither Alfonse OR Sharena have much of a say in what it looks like (her being uncomfortable "showing that much leg" -- that, if given a choice, she may have wanted something more modest).
So like. There is. So much going on here actually.
