☽✧☾ Animal: This is a tough question to start with - Angeline is such an animal fan it's hard to pick just one for her (I was EXTREMELY mount motivated my first time through the msq so that translates to Angeline being just as intense about her menagerie). Considering her origins as a dungeons and dragons paladin and her special connection to her steed, Cinnamon, she is above all a horse girl.
☽✧☾ Color: Angeline prefers sunrise colors - rose golds and pinks and pale blues and pale yellows. I put her in moonlight tones, too - silvery pearlescent and light.
☽✧☾ Song: What I consider to be Angeline's 'core song' is Billie Holiday's 'Pennies from Heaven'. I grew up listening to jazz - in many ways its my 'first' genre, the one I feel the most at home in, and Billie Holiday was one of my father's favorite singers. It's a short song, but here's the second half:
Trade them for a package of Sunshine and flowers If you want the things you love You must have showers So when you hear it thunder Don't run under a tree There'll be pennies from heaven For you and me!
The italicized pair of lines is where the core of how I built Angeline's determination from!
☽✧☾ Number: Seven - she's always found it lucky, it reminds her of her mothers (all seven of them), and its the number she tends to go with instinctually!
☽✧☾ Day or Night: Transitional periods make her feel the safest, dawn and dusk.
☽✧☾ Plant: Silver lilies - she refuses to admit its because of a book series she was obsessed with as a child, the Order of the Silver Lily, that she's especially fond of them. But alas! hee hee
☽✧☾ Smell: Light scents, seasalt and citrus and getting lightly sunbaked
☽✧☾ Gemstone: Moonstone. An instinctual draw. (though when she is the Warrior of Light, her eyes take on a similar quality after becoming Light poisoned. She finds them far less appealling after that)
☽✧☾ Season: Hee hee hee hee, would it be too obvious to say summer? Once Angeline leaves Sharlayan and experiences a Limsan Lominsan summer, she never can move home permanently again!
☽✧☾ Place: …. AND she still sees a particular fountain outside her mothers' estate in her dreams and wakes up crying. It had long been her special courtyard, a refuge.
☽✧☾ Food: Sweets! Tea! Vacation drinks! She's not particularly fussy, though the cuter and or smaller and or more colorful, the nicer.
☽✧☾ Eorzean Deity: Menphina! Her patron deity (though more like encouraging older sister figure than any serious religious beliefs).
☽✧☾ Eorzean Element(s): The elements that came easiest to her have been Light and Wind.
☽✧☾ Drink: A Loooooong Sharlayan Iced Tea!
✦✧✩✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✦
thank you so so much for the double tag - this was really helpful to work out for her!!

"I did not say Jaenelle Saetien was Witch, I specifically asked how they are calling Jaenelle Angeline back to control Daemon if Jaenelle Saetien is sort of her reincarnated. If they're just calling Witch back then, again, as you quoted me saying, it'll be a bit gross for JA to have been only important to Daemon because she was Witch, but it will be part and parcel for a series that fails its stated objectives of exploring Nurtures controlling Warriors or whatever gender binary essentialist nonsense. "
not an April's Fool joke just following up on the discussion you brought up, but it's fine if you don't want to answer. Also not saying if you've read all of the books as an insult, just because it didn't sound like you did read some of them because this is all explained. What I'm saying is that your logic is wrong, JS isn't a reincarnation and was never supposed to be. JA doesn't even completely die. So there's no one substituting anyone here, in fact this is the core of Jaenelle Saetien arc, that she is her own person. Also as I said, Jaenelle Angelinne's isn't loved by Daemon just for being Witch, this is a story line that is worked on Dream's Made Flesh so that's why I said that has already been tackled. so yeah anyway
Thank you for clarifying that the original ask wasn't an april fool's joke! I appreciate it. One of the reasons I wondered is because I have live read/reacted/commented on four of the books on this blog, partly to discuss what sarah janet was so incredibly inspired by (in the most generous interpretation of the extreme similarities between sarah janet's later books and... all of Bishop's)
But we're going to have to disagree that my logic was wrong or that it was worked out in a satisfactory fashion in the dreams made flesh short story collection when the twilight's dawn short story collection exists.
If bishop delved more deeply into it and revised and/or commented on it in the most recent books then kudos to her, but given that the seven novels and two short story collections I've read from her multiple times dealt poorly, I feel, with every aspect she says she tries to examine, I don't think reading the most recent ones will change my reading and/or interpretation much.

Republican Party
** Initially united in 1854 by the promise to abolish slavery, the Republican Party has always stood for freedom, prosperity, and opportunity. Today, as those principles come under attack from the far-left, we are engaged in a national effort to fight for our proven agenda, take our message to every American, grow the party, promote election integrity, and elect Republicans up and down the ballot. The principles of the Republican Party recognize the God-given liberties while promoting opportunity for every American.

Something that contributes to the decidedly fairytale-like nature of the AF series is the fact that we never truly see what Angeline and Fowl Sr. are like before the People’s influence.
With Angeline, we only know her as a madwoman, and later, as a mentally-revitalized narrative spectre of motherhood. With Fowl Sr, we only know of the ghost of his former self who haunts the story; a man more dedicated to his criminal empire than his family, though he remains (in Artemis’ eyes) a better man in his twilight years than his son is in the dawn of his youth. Through Artemis’ memories alone, we know of Fowl Sr’s former self, and this figure stands in contrast to the vaguely disquieting, newly born moral crusader whom Artemis barely recognizes as Father.
For Artemis to rebuild his life with parental figures who are functionally hollow actors which have been re-cast in the role of Mother and Father by magic is just… so interesting, IMO!

now that i’m back on my percy jackson brain rot, here are what i think each melrose fam’s greek godly parent would be:
sydney - athena, goddess of wisdom, reason and strategy. c’mon, you saw that coming.
adrian - dionysus, god of wine, festivity, theatre, madness. i thought putting him as a child of apollo but dionysus makes more sense for adrian (his vices, his struggle with spirit, being an unofficial theatre kid)
eddie - hestia, goddess of home and family. I think that aligns with eddie’s need to protect his friends (and plays into their little found family trope)
jill - poseidon, god of sea, storms, earthquakes and horses. she is a water-user, making her a child of the big three would be in line with her lineage being important and having people/monsters go after her. also, jill is a horse girl (affectionate) to me.
angeline - ares, god of war and violence. it matches her unhinged and chaotic energy.
trey - apollo, god of sun, archery, prophecy and healing. aligns with the warriors’ beliefs and how charming trey is.

Essence Lore:
"The lights of the city are starting to fade... People are starting to lose their colors as well... what is going to happen when the entire city fades?" "Let's not wait around long enough to find out, Viewer."
The setting of the essence takes place in a big city called The Neonized, and it's home to a huge neon population of people whose families have lived there for generations. Life in The Neonized can be a tricky one, as light is necessary to survive and avoid the creatures that lurk in the dark. However, as of recent, people have been losing their natural light and becoming "broken" or "defective". Someone... or something, has been taking and absorbing people's light before leaving them in complete darkness, to be devoured by things they're now unable to ward away...
"..? Where are your parents, little girl?" He pressed his fingers gently against the small neon pink cat that sat on the edge of his staff like a shining jewel. "Bars are no place for a little girl like yourself, you know..." But the little girl would not answer his question. After all, based on her dark appearance, he was asking a question he already knew the answer to. The little girl's parents were dead. The fact she made it here without anyone in sight... meant as much. Are you hungry, little girl? Here, I have some bread in my viewer bay that you can have..."
---
A shining pink disk lays dormant inside the office of the mayor, who has all but lost most of her glow, glowing dimly. And yet, she could bring light to the lives of her people in a different way. Through music, may she light the path for her people.
"Your song is very pretty, Miss Mayor. What is it called? Was it the Clair De Lune? Or something else I don't know?" "Who's there? You are trespassing on private property-" "But you brought me in here... are you not curious what mysteries I have within my disk?"
The Mayor searched high and low, all while the mysterious voice called to her playfully. Left, right, up and down, Mayor Music could not find the person, however, buried deep within her melodies, she did recover that shining, pink disk.
"Oh look! You're finally found me! Now, play me, play me! I wanna see your pretty little face, Miss Mayor~!"
And play the disk the mayor did. It released a soft piano melody, one of which the mayor had never heard of. It was fascinating, inspiring, and overwhelming. She went to pick up the pink disk, to observe and learn about it.
One glowing blue ear emerged from the center of the pink disk. And then another glowing blue ear. Then a blue head with a blunt purple horn. Then one pink hand emerged from the pink disk, and then another. And finally, it opened its eyes to reveal two neon pink eyes staring back at the mayor. Not only was it rather heavy in weight, but it glowed like nothing the mayor had ever seen before... as if it took all light around and condensed it within itself before reflecting it in tenfold.
And then, there was one arm wrapping around the Mayor's shoulders, clothed in a glowing pink jacket with a glowing yellow panel. And then another arm in the same glowing pink attire. And suddenly, the mayor felt heavier, and warmer, as if something was radiating heat off themselves.
"Do you like it...? I call him Crystal... He's supposed to be a fox, but I have no idea what a fox looks like, haha!"
---
"The lights are getting dimmer and dimmer... what are we going to do?! Aurora lost her light already thanks to some nutjob in the streets, what if we're next?" "You worry too much Neon, Drifter, I hear there's this hacker going around, restoring parts of people's colors just long enough to drive the darkness away until they can get to safety... Sure their lights fade after a while, but they survive. I'm sure we'll be fine!"
An unsung hero for the people, glowing red and blue in the night with a bunny-themed hood to match. Even someone as small as them can prove to be the biggest ally in a citywide power outage like this... but where did they come from?
"On your left, there will be a bar. Go in there, there will be people that can help you. It's too late to save your friend and your folks, but Heart will make sure you're safe. And if he doesn't want to comply, just tell him Hacker sent you here. This pink light prototype isn't very well developed because pink is a very rare light to have, and it won't hold the darkness back for very long, you hear me? Run to the bar, you'll be safe! Don't stop for shit, kid!"
Replicating the lost colors of the people is Hacker's specialty, and it can be an ever-thankless job. Gambling on the correct coding to recreate a color is part of her job, however, taking the wrong gamble has cost her precious time and people's lives before... But life is full of gambles, you can't rig them all in your favor.
"But how are they able to take people's lights... I don't get it..." "Not understanding this isn't going to get us anywhere in this mystery..."
---
It's only a matter of time until The Neonized falls into the hands of the darkness, sharp teeth gnashing and tearing you all apart. It won't stop until it's devoured and infected everything. And yet, perhaps there's something in the darkness that can stop this. Taking out the agent who is causing the power outage of the people would prevent any more tragedy... but even so, a plan like that wouldn't work, not without a sacrifice.
"Then some of us are going to have to sacrifice ourselves to gain this precious city some time. After all, things like this go will be smart enough to go after the brightest things in the city♪"
"Well, if it gives them an opening to stop this once and for all... then this is an opportunity we'll have to take, whether we're willing to or not."
"Ohh, such motivational words♪! No wonder they call you the Heart of the Night, I feel energized just being around you♪"
"And I can see why they call you the Haunted Pink Disk. You're pink and the way you act is freaking me the fuck out-"
"Aww, now that's just mean ˚‧º·(˚ ˃̣̣̥᷄⌓˂̣̣̥᷅ )‧º·˚"
Well, that is... quite the team there. As the one most traveled and most knowledgeable about their enemy, the Mayor appointed Hacker to be the team leader, and devise a strategy. At least, that was what Hacker was supposed to do. However, plans seemed to flow flawlessly and seamlessly from the pink disk. Within moments, the disk had formulated a plan that could save the city... should it work, of course.
"So you think that, whatever this thing is, is hiding within the darkness? And that's why, when people lose their light, the darkness is so quick to attack?"
"Think of this from a hunter's point of view. When animals travel, they tend to travel in a pack. Traveling in a pack prevents other animals from attacking, but it also enables them to protect their leader and kill prey with ease before it has a chance to struggle or get away. That's how the darkness travels. It travels together so it can attack together and feast together..."
"But if we can draw them apart from the agent..."
"They'll be left wide open. And that gives us the opportunity to end this once and for all."
"Bingo♪"
But a plan like this takes time and effort, and it must be executed flawlessly without fail. One slip up... and everything could come falling down. But they don't have time, not on their side.
Night was falling fast, and time was running out. They knew they'd have to act fast, or else this may be the last night for some innocent person in the city. The Mayor refused to let this darkness win. Not again.
---
And yet, for most of this team, this would be their final night alive in the Neonized.
---
The team was split into 2 teams, one team to distract the darkness and one to end this nightmare, once and for all.
"My team will go and distract the darkness." This team was made up of Heart of the Night, Hacker, Neon Lights, Neon Drifter, Aurora Lights, and little Broken Sign. The 6 people were then split into groups of 2, each with their own section of the Neonized to thin and weaken the darkness, with Spectral Viewer watching and guiding them.
"We'll go deal with the agent then~" The other team was made up of Mayor Musical Beats and Haunted Pink Disk.
Heart of the Night and Broken Sign would take the frontmost parts of the city, while Hacker and Neon Light, Neon Drifter, and Aurora Lights would take the right and left sides of the city.
The Mayor and Pink Haunted Disk would head to the city's darkest parts, the backstage, as it was the most probable place for the agent to be.
---
"This may be the final time we see each other, there's no guarantee we'll all survive this... I've only known you guys for a little while, but you guys are all really cool, you know?"
---
Things like this were always a race against time, you know? A race against time and a fight to the death. It took all your courage to make it though. It took all the courage the Mayor had inside of her to finally end this.
"Hey, relax♪ You've got me here with you. We'll end this together, don't worry Angeline. Oops, can I call you Angeline?"
With Pink Disk at her side and giving Spectral Viewer the go, the Mayor had launched her plan in motion.
---
"Those who dare defy the darkness... shall have their vessels strung up in the strings of fate."
---
While the Mayor and the Pink Disk made their way towards the backstage area of the Neonized, the other 3 groups were fighting the darkness. And yet, as the mysterious voice had echoed out their threat, things began to turn, and one by one, each team would fall into the hands of the darkness, each suffering a terrible death. Of the entire team, only 2 people survived, while the rest was either found dead... or missing. Perhaps the darkness took and devoured them. Or maybe they were buried underneath the rubble of the aftermath. Or... maybe, they never existed at all.
But, they had all known what the possible outcomes of this would be going into would be. This was their choice and their choices alone.
In the end, The Mayor, with the aid of the Pink Disk, was able to stop the Darkness, and save her people. But upon going to congratulate her teammate, the Mayor found the pink girl was nowhere to be found, with only a shattered, pink disk laying on the ground among the rubble where she once stood. Not even Crystal... was anywhere to be found.
---
"In the end, we were able to protect the city! But... it came at such a great loss... The Neonized lost so many amazing people that day... even the person who used to run this... the man who used to run this bar... but don't worry, I've been taking really good of it ever since. I know I'm a little young to be in a place like this... But you know... I don't know, it's kind of silly I guess..."
"Amy... we worked together in the past together... please, tell me what's on your mind. Not as your mayor... but as your friend."
"I just... I'm always hoping that... maybe someday, they'll all come back. My mama, my papa, my friend Memory, Mister Night and Miss Hacker, and everyone else... but I think that hope is stupid..."
"Well, having a little hope is okay, it can't hurt to be a little hopeful. I miss Miss Pink too, and I still hope she'll come back to us... and I think I'll keep hoping. We can hope on things together, okay?"
"Okay, Miss Mayor... would you like a drink? I can make you one."
"I'd love a drink, Party of the Dawn."
END
---
" Where... where the fuck are we?"
"You think I know? Ugh... my watch's map is all messed up, it just keeps saying DATA NOT FOUND."
Theater of Darkness, coming soon♪

peaceful easy feeling ft. b.boeser | two
Tumblr media
A/N: Thank you guys for all the positive feedback on Part One!  I’m so happy you guys are enjoying the series thus far.
CONTENT WARNING: parents with disease/sickness (Parkinson’s); swearing; sex; alcohol use; lots of emotions.
                                                                  *     *     *     *     *
Brock Boeser was intoxicated by the feel of Grace’s lips.  It was all he could think about and all he could feel every time he was alone and closed his eyes.  Well, that was a lie – that wasn’t all he felt.  Sometimes he could feel the weight of Grace’s body on his lap, like when they would make out like teenagers on each other’s couches after hanging out or before hanging out or during hanging out – any time, really.  Sometimes he could feel her long hair sprawled across his chest from when they lay in bed together.  Sometimes he could hear her giggle or see her smile or hear her voice being the kindest, most polite and gentle person on planet Earth to everyone and anyone she’d meet.
For what it was worth, Grace Gillespie was intoxicated by the feel of Brock’s body.  It was all she could think about every time she was alone, and she found herself dreaming about the next time she’d be able to feel it.  His strong arms with his toned biceps; his abs, defined by a work schedule and sport that took up most of his time; his thick thighs…but what she loved most had to be his back.  It was weird for her to say, but it was.  It was the definition – she could see every muscle.  She could trace every bump with her fingertips and make him shiver.  The entirety, all of him, was just so…beautiful.
It was Grace who had inadvertently given it away, so to speak – them seeing each other – when she uploaded a story of herself at the Canucks season opener.  The rumours started in no time.  The story was screen-recorded and posted on every blog imaginable because Brock Boeser was, well, Brock Boeser.  He was hot, and nice, and sweet, and every girl in Vancouver with even just a passing interest in hockey wanted to hook up with him.  It was also compounded by the fact that in the 90s the Gillespie’s put in a bid to own the Canucks.  Grace just tuned it all out.  Brock Boeser Dating a Billionaire’s Daughter!  Those who loved alliteration must have loved the headlines.  In any case, there were more important things to worry about, and more important things to dedicate her time to.
Grace was at work when she got a call from Brock.  That meant the team flight had landed and he was probably still at the airport or had just gotten into his apartment.  She liked how her heart skipped a beat whenever he called.  “D’you want to meet some of my friends?”
That question took her for a loop.  “Who?”
“My friend Elias, but we call him Petey.”
“You mean Elias Pettersson?” she clarified.
“Yeah,” he giggled slightly.  “He’s been fancying himself a chef lately.  He lives with his best friend Svea.  He wants us over for dinner.”
“Is he making Swedish food?”
“Don’t know.  I’ll confirm with him.  But is that a yes?”
“Well, if he’s cooking…”
***
“You told her what?”
“Petey—”
“Boes, I can’t fucking cook!” Elias exclaimed once it dawned on him what Brock had just done.  “Why would you invite her here?!”
“I wasn’t thinking—”
“Clearly not!”
“What’s all the commotion?” Svea asked as she emerged from “her side” of the apartment, hearing the screaming between the two men.  It wasn’t exactly new, to hear Brock and Elias screaming at each other, but it was usually over video games.  This sounded like something different.
“Brock just invited his new girlfriend over to our place for dinner,” Elias huffed.
Svea furrowed her brows.  “What’s wrong with that?  We’ve been wanting to meet her for a long time, Elias.”
“Brock said I’d be cooking,” Elias deadpanned.
Svea turned to Brock with an emotionless look on her face.  “Are you dumb?!” she exclaimed.
“Sveeeeeeaaaaaaaa,” Brock pleaded, his hands clasped together, about to get on his hands and knees in front of her.
“You need to fix this Svea.  I can’t – I can’t – I can barely even boil an egg!  What made you think I’d be able to cook a dinner to impress a girl I’m not even trying to impress?!” Elias demanded.
“Shut it, the both of you,” Svea said sternly, raising her hands slightly.  “When is she coming here?”
“Saturday night, after our game against Toronto.”
She took a deep breath.  “I’m going to make sausage stroganoff.  You better bring me a good bottle of wine,” she glared at Brock, “and you better go to the Swedish bakery to get the good Swedish sausage,” she directed towards Elias.
Brock fell down to his knees.  “Thank you Svea.  Thank you thank you thank you.”
“Yeah yeah,” she waved them off.  “Now if you’re going to play video games, keep your voices down.  I’m studying.”
When he heard her shut the door to the den, Brock looked at Elias.  “When are you gonna marry her?”
Elias huffed.  “She’s my best friend, Brock.”
***
“So they’re best friends from Sweden,” Grace wanted to make sure she got everything right before she met Elias Pettersson and Svea Nilsson for the first time.  “But you’re saying they’re in love with one another and don’t know it?”
“Exactly,” Brock nodded his head.  “You’ll see it within, like, a minute of meeting them.  They’re just…I don’t know, dumb.”
Grace giggled slightly as Brock pressed the number for Elias’s floor in the elevator.  The doors shut and soon they were speeding up.  “Does anyone else on your team know about us?”
“Some of the guys I’m closer with do,” Brock said.  “Troy, Thatcher, Marky…they all know about you.  Do your friends know about me?”
Grace snorted.  “I told them about you after that first night at Starbucks.”
Brock laughed, leaning down to give her a quick kiss.  “That eager, eh?”
“When you know, you know,” Grace said.  “You know, don’t you?”
Brock nodded.  “I know.”
That was the beauty of what they had going.  They just fell in to everything.  There was Starbucks, then there was exchanging of their numbers, then there were texts back and forth, and phone conversations, and the rush of everything else.  It was quick but it was organic.  Nothing was rushed.  They were going at the pace they wanted to go.  There wasn’t even a heart-to-heart sit down or discussion about “where they stand relationship-wise” or “Am I into this more than you?”.  It was just…understood.  They knew.  They were exclusive.  Neither was seeing anybody else.  Neither wanted to see anybody else.  It was what Grace knew a healthy relationship should blossom into.  It was what Brock knew he wanted from another person.
Elias opened the door to the apartment, greeting Grace sweetly before walking them in to the kitchen and dining room, where the table had already been set – no doubt done by Svea, too.  Grace noticed that Svea, the roommate, was the one cooking instead of Elias, and she was absolutely mortified.  She made sure to make her way into the kitchen once Brock punched Elias in the gut about something.
“Hi I’m Svea,” Svea introduced herself sweetly as she was whisking a sauce in a deep saucepan.  She had on an apron and everything.  “It’s really nice to meet you.  I’m sorry that I look like a mess right now.”
“I’m so sorry – Brock said Elias was cooking tonight because he fancied himself a chef – I didn’t want to put any pressure on you—”
“Oh no no no!  Don’t worry!” Svea waved her off.  “God, are you kidding?  I wouldn’t want Elias to make you anything.  He might give you food poisoning.”
Grace giggled.  “So what’s on the menu tonight, anyway?”
“Sausage stronganoff,” Svea replied.  “It’s a Swedish dish.  Elias’s favourite, actually.  I thought I should make you Swedish food.  You’re not vegetarian, are you?”
“No,” Grace said, smiling from ear to ear.  “Sounds delicious.”
***
“They’re definitely in love,” Grace said once she and Brock walked out of the front doors of Elias’s condo building.  Brock turned towards her dramatically, his eyebrows raised, about to throw his arms up in the air.  “It’s so obvious.  So obvious.”
“I told you!” he exclaimed.
“Why aren’t they dating yet?” she asked.
“Beats the shit out of me,” Brock said, shaking his head.  “But they’re meant to be together.  It’ll happen eventually.  I just don’t want to wait until I’m, like, forty to see it.”
Grace smiled, and there was a moment of silence between the two as they walked along the street.  “Can I ask you a question?  About things happening eventually?”
“Sure…”
“D’you want to meet my dad?”
The words hung in the air as Brock considered the magnitude of what Grace was asking him.  “You want me to meet your dad?”
Grace nodded.  “I think he’ll really like you,” she began.  “And my dad always, always wants to meet my boyfriends.”
“So you’ve had loads of other boyfriends?” he quipped.
Grace went to punch him in the gut, much like Elias did just hours earlier, but Brock dodged her easily and ended up grabbing her hand instead.  “Of course I’ll meet your dad,” he said, softer this time, as he stepped into her personal space and wrapped his other arm around her body.  “I’d love to.”
“Listen, I know I don’t have to warn you about what you’re gonna see when you get into the house, but—”
“Shhhh…” Brock cooed, bringing a finger up to her lips before leaning down to kiss her.  “When you want me there?”
“How does Sunday Night Football sound?”
***
Brock had never seen such a beautiful modern mansion so big in his life.  He’d trekked up to North Vancouver, to the address Grace gave him, and came face to face with a mansion overlooking the water.  It was stunning.  Fit for a billionaire, Brock thought.  He wondered if Grace grew up in this house or if it was new.  It looked new.  And judging by its style –a bungalow – it was fit for someone who needed access to everything they needed on the same floor.  Someone living with Parkinson’s, of course.
He rang the doorbell.  After about a minute, the door opened and an unfamiliar face greeted him.  “You must be Brock?” the woman asked, the door still only half-open.
“Yes ma’am.”
She opened the door fully.  “I’m Angeline.  I’m one of Mr. Gillespie’s caregivers,” she informed him, stepping aside so he could step into the massive foyer.  Brock could hear the TV on in the distance and the clinking of some dishes in a faraway kitchen.  “You’ll also meet Dana and Michelle, Mr. Gillespie’s others.  He’s been expecting you.  He’s been very excited to meet you.”
Brock slipped off his shoes, making sure not to drop the bottle of wine he brought (for reasons unknown; it wasn’t like Hamish could drink – it was just that him mom taught him never to show up to someone’s house empty-handed).  “Oh, really?” he asked.
Angeline nodded her head.  “He hasn’t been quiet about it since Grace said it to him.  Plus, he’s a big Canucks fan.  Let me bring you to him.”
Brock followed Angeline through the house until they got to the family room.  It was massive, like everything else in the house, with lots of space.  When he walked in, he saw Grace and Hamish.  Their backs were to him, so he was able to observe them before they saw him.  Grace was sitting right beside him in his chair, holding his hand as they paid attention to the football game just about to start on the screen.  Grace was making some comment about the teams.  Brock could see Hamish turn his head slowly to look at his daughter and nod.  Everything about the set-up – Grace, Hamish, their positions, what was on TV, everything – reminded him of he and his dad.  Even the handholding.  Brock didn’t think he even held his dad’s hand as much when he was a kid out in public than he had the last few months – few years, really.  Duke was really into the handholding.  Brock could never, would never deny him.
Brock was soon snapped out of his trance by the sound of footsteps.  One of the other caregivers walked right past him holding a plate of puréed food, bringing it to Grace.  It was only then that Brock noticed the TV dinner table beside her.  “She likes to feed him whenever she’s here,” Angeline said, noticing Brock’s staring.  “If you need any help you can always call.  We will be somewhere in the house,” she said before walking away.
Brock took a deep breath and walked towards Grace and Hamish.  Upon hearing his footsteps, Grace looked his way.  The smile on her face widened ten times over when she saw it was him.  “Hi Brock,” she said softly, getting up from her seat quickly to greet him.  She kissed him quickly behind her father’s back (quite literally) before moving and settling back into her chair.  “Dad, Brock is here to meet you.”
Brock stepped into Hamish’s line of vision.  So that he wouldn’t have to strain his neck to look up, Brock bent down on his knees.  “Hi Hamish,” he held out his hand for a handshake.  Slowly, Hamish’s hand came up to shake it.  “It’s very nice to meet you.  Grace has told me so much about you.”
“It’s…nice to…meet you…too,” he said, his words coming out slowly but surely.  “You…like football?”
Brock smiled.  “I love football.”
“Minnesota?”
“Minnesota.”
A smile crept onto Hamish’s face.  “Good.”
***
Hamish wanted ice cream, so Grace got up and went to the kitchen, leaving him with Brock as they watched the football game together.  Minnesota was winning, which made her dad pretty happy.  And despite everything, she could tell he liked Brock.  She knew he would – everybody liked Brock, he was the sweetest – but it made her happy knowing that he liked him.  There were some ex-boyfriends of hers that he didn’t like.  Some ex-boyfriends he straight-up disapproved of.  Hamish had strong opinions and vocalized them always, and the Parkinson’s didn’t stop that.  He didn’t create a three-billion-dollar company by being quiet.
When she finished putting the ice cream in the bowl, she began to head back to the family room.  Dana stopped her momentarily to tell her that her dad’s bed was ready, whenever he was tired and needed to change into his pajamas.  Grace thanked her, and before she could even step foot into the family room, she heard Brock’s voice.  “Back straight, Mr. Gillespie.  And let me get the straw.”
She stopped in her tracks so neither could see her.  She watched from the side as Brock took the glass of water her dad had been drinking with dinner and brought it up to his lips, steadying the straw so it faced him.  “Take your time, Mr. Gillespie.  It’s alright.”
“I’m sorry.”
“You don’t have to apologize, Mr. Gillespie.  I’m used to this.  I’m not sure if Grace told you but my dad has Parkinson’s as well,” Brock said.
Hamish seemingly forgot about the water and straw.  “He does?”
“Yes sir.  And I help take care of him too, in the off-season.  Just like Grace helps take care of you.”
Hamish brought a hand up slowly and placed it on Brock’s arm that was resting on the arm rest.  “Does your father…ever speak…of his body…betraying him?”
Grace watched as Brock took a deep breath in.  “All the time,” he nodded.  “Ever since he got diagnosed.”
Hamish nodded slowly.  “You and Grace…” he began, “taking care…of your parents.  You’ll…you’ll look after one another.”
Brock nodded again, more assertively this time.  “We will,” he said, bringing the water and straw closer to Hamish.  He pursed his lips to start drinking, and Brock brought his other hand up to steady Hamish’s head and make sure it was as upright as possible.  Hamish’s hand didn’t leave Brock’s forearm.

Do you have a favorite book or series of the ones you've read so far this year? Congrats on hitting your goal already! That's impressive!
Thank you! I guess 100 books was a realistic goal for me :) I enjoyed almost all of the books I’ve read this year so it’s really hard to chose! That being said, these books/series have stuck in my thoughts despite reading 100+ others:
Stand-alones:
Fire Keepers Daughter - Angeline Boulley
Cemetery Boys - Aiden Thomas
Where the Crawdads Sing - Delia Owens
Duologies:
Six of Crows - Leigh Bardugo
Fable - Adrienne Young
We Hunt the Flame - Hafsah Faizal
These Violent Delights - Chloe Gong (book 2 hasn’t been published yet)
Spin the Dawn - Elizabeth Lim
Trilogies:
Kiss of Deception - Mary E. Pearson (first book was the best imo)
Girls of Paper and Fire - Natasha Ngan (book three hasn’t been published yet)
But like I said, I enjoyed almost all of the books I’ve read! Only a handful didn’t do it for me.

Happy heavenly 80th birthday to Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones!
Lewis Brian Hopkin Jones was an English musician and composer, best known as the founder and original leader of the Rolling Stones.
Brian Jones was born in the Park Nursing Home in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, on 28 February 1942 to Lewis Blount Jones and Louisa Beatrice Joneswere. Brian had two sisters; Pamela, who was born on 3 October 1943 and died on 14 October 1945 of leukaemia; and Barbara, born on 22 August 1946.
An attack of croup at the age of four left Brian with asthma that lasted for the rest of his life.
Both Jones's parents were interested in music; his father, Lewis, was a piano teacher in addition to his job as an aeronautical engineer, and his mother, Louisa, played piano and organ and led the choir at the local church
Brian listened to classical music as a child but preferred blues, particularly Elmore James and Robert Johnson. In 1957, Jones first heard Cannonball Adderley's music and this inspired his interest in jazz.
Jones persuaded his parents to buy him a saxophone and two years later his parents gave him his first acoustic guitar as a 17th-birthday present. Jones began performing at local blues and jazz clubs, while busking and working odd jobs.
In late summer 1959, Jones's girlfriend (they were both aged 17), a Cheltenham schoolgirl named Valerie Corbett, became pregnant. Although Jones is said to have encouraged her to have an abortion, she carried the child to term and placed baby Barry David Corbett (later Simon) for adoption.
In November 1959, Jones went to the Wooden Bridge Hotel in Guildford to see a band perform. He met a young married woman named Angeline, and the two had a one-night stand that resulted in her pregnancy. Angeline and her husband decided to raise the baby, Belinda, born on 4 August 1960. Jones never knew about her birth.
On 22 October 1961, Jones's girlfriend Pat Andrews gave birth to his third child, Julian Mark Andrews. Jones sold his record collection to buy flowers for Pat and clothes for the newborn.
As Richards tells it, Jones came up with the name the "Rollin' Stones" (later with the 'g') while on the phone with a venue owner.
"The voice on the other end of the line obviously said, 'What are you called?' Panic! The Best of Muddy Waters album was lying on the floor—and track five, side one was 'Rollin' Stone Blues'".
The Rollin' Stones played their first gig on 12 July 1962 at the Marquee Club in London, with a line-up of Jagger, Richards, Jones, Stewart, bass player Dick Taylor (later of the Pretty Things) and drummer Tony Chapman.
In 1963, Brian began a relationship with Linda Lawrence. On 23 July 1964, Lawrence gave birth to Jones's fourth child, Julian Brian Lawrence.
In early October 1964 an occasional girlfriend of Brian's, Dawn Molloy, announced to Brian and the Rolling Stones' management that she was pregnant by him.
She received a cheque for £700 from group manager Andrew Loog Oldham. In return, she signed an agreement that the matter was now closed and that she would make no statement about Jones or the child to the public or the press. The undated statement was signed by Molloy and witnessed by Mick Jagger.
After trouble with the law and wanting to tour America the Rolling Stones were done with the irresponsible Brian Jones. To the public it appeared as if Jones had left voluntarily; the other band members told him that although he was being dismissed, it was his choice how to break it to the public.
Jones released a statement on 9 June 1969, announcing his departure. In this statement he said, among other things, that, "I no longer see eye-to-eye with the others over the discs we are cutting". He was replaced by the 20-year-old guitarist Mick Taylor, formerly of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers.
At around midnight on the night of 2–3 July 1969, Jones was discovered motionless at the bottom of his swimming pool at Cotchford Farm. His Swedish girlfriend, Anna Wohlin, was convinced he was alive when he was taken out of the pool, insisting he still had a pulse.
However, by the time the doctors arrived, it was too late and he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, at the age of 27.
The coroner's report stated it was a drowning, later clarified as "death by misadventure", and noted his liver and heart were greatly enlarged by past drug and alcohol abuse.
Jones was reportedly buried 10 feet deep in Cheltenham Cemetery, to prevent exhumation by trophy hunters. His body was embalmed, with hair bleached white, and was placed in an air-tight silver and bronze casket.
He's processed in death alongside his sister Pamela.
He leaves behind his family, friends, many fans, and leaves quite a few children fatherless.
If alive today he would have been 80. Instead he's forever 27, in a life of troubled youth who wanted the rock n roll life at any cost. Fly high sky bird 🕯️ 🕊️
