Your swsh art always makes me want to replay the game because i love it and its my favorite pokemon game and every time i play another pokemon game i think of it how i miss certain elements from swsh. Then i boot up the game and im once again caught in the 1 hour 40 minutes hand held intro and im like ah- now i remember why i have been playing other pokemon games instead of this one. Happy (late?) birthday!
you don't want to listen to hop? you don't want to hear him teach you about type matchups? you don't wanna let him cheer u on...? 🥺 waa....?
#ask#bakuspeech#I am joking to be clear lmao#thank u happy bday to me !!#tbh I got real used to pokemon overexpositioning since sumo lol. it's kind of a boon for me#cause I'm not a Gamer™ and my brain takes stuff on Very slowly#so the tutorial stuff and the cutscenes give me time to catch up. also it's still fun to see these guys run around#I am in fact here for these guys lol. weird thing to say about the game built on and with an essential focus on the pokemon I know#I just like humans! I just like watching hop running circles around my player character all excited#and leon being a dick to his hometown people when they're expecting 'leon' back and they get the champion instead#and you get to see sonia used to dealing with it but the frustration never fully fades and how close she is to hop and that picture's bleak#listen this is my bread&butter lol. leon really doesn't show up That much himself around the game he's a shadow casted over the story#it's always interesting to me! does Not mean it's not sluggish to other people who want to play the game lmao#but I like it. also the tutorial at least the first time around was necessary to me bc the difficulty scales way up later on lol#it's a very good first pokemon game I maintain this. sumo never managed to teach me the same way swsh did#I still care drampa tho thank u drampa for being real I love u#lmao it feels like saying I'm not a Gamer™ violates some tenets of having adhd somehow. but its just the case here#the main genres I play are 'itch games tangential to the haunted ps1 people' and 'popcap-style casual games'#my sport's figuring out shapes n movin my stylus sadly. well not sadly why would that be sad

Olympique Lyonnais - ASSE OLPlay Postgame Interviews
Slowly but surely making my way through the backlog.
Blah blah standard disclaimers apply; if you do invasive shit your ass should be banned from stadiums (maybe THEN you will finally learn!!!); @OL Comms Dept it's fall aka PSL weather; y'all know the speech.
I am not too proud to admit that I had major concerns when Lyon first recruited Vanessa Gilles. How times have changed. Also hard to believe this is the same person Horan said was a massive introvert beginning of last season.
Gilles' interview ft Horan was one of the most chaotic things I have ever seen, and the "condensed" version Lyon posted on Instagram doesn't do the live version justice. Pure and utter chaos, and completely endearing.
Lyon and myself to Vanessa Gilles:
Tumblr media
SONIA BOMPASTOR POSTGAME INTERVIEW
Bompastor: Obviously satisfied with the result, three points, and we're top of the table. It's a good thing. So, satisfied overall. Within the context of the game, I think we saw some really good things. I liked what my team presented this evening. So, a lot of satisfaction and we're on a really good streak.
Journalist: We still get the feeling we saw a game of two halves. Lyon was in complete control the first half, the second half was a bit more complicated.
Bompastor: Yeah, we struggled to get going again in the second half. Several different factors can explain that. There were a few substitutions at half time, so that took a while to get going. But also I think the game was very physical, there were a lot of fouls, a lot of stoppage of play. We saw that with the amount of extra time at the end. And so it's not easy in those conditions to keep your rhythm and impose your style of play. I was a little bit frustrated in that regard. But sometimes you just have to deal with it.
Journalist: We also would like a quick word on Lindsey [Horan], who scored a hat trick. For us in the studio, she was voted Player of the Match. Do you agree?
Bompastor: Yes, yes. Lindsey [Horan] had a really great performance. We saw it in the second half, but she had a great game overall. At halftime we showed her one or two clips where she could have pushed forward more and be more decisive. She was able to do that in the second half. She pushed forward a lot, both in the penalty area and also she scored a hat trick, so for her confidence, it's good, for the team as well. When you have Lindsey playing at that level, it's always really positive.
Journalist: For the team, there was a substitute which concerned us a little bit, it was Wendie Renard. Do you have any news?
Bompastor: Listen, it's too soon. In any case, as you saw, we took her off. I think we'll see how she feels tomorrow. We might do some additional exams and tests, and cross our fingers.
Journalist: One last question about the calendar. There are two away games, against Reims and maybe the big clash of the beginning of the season in Paris, but against Paris FC.
Bompastor: Yes, there will obviously the away game next week at Reims, in the Stade Auguste Delaune [Note: the big stadium]. There'll be the international break, and then right after the end of the international break we have Paris FC. Now, I've said it since the beginning of the season, we have a lot of ambition, a talented roster. So we stay concentrated on what we can and should do. The opponents, we give them all the same respect. Obviously when we're preparing for a game we focus on certain elements, but if we play at our level, with the talent and quality we have, we should be able this season to do some really good things. So yeah. Respect the opponents obviously, but have confidence in ourselves and put our game in place so that we can perform at our best.
VANESSA GILLES (FT LINDSEY HORAN) POSTGAME INTERVIEW
Gilles: First of all, thank you. I think it's a derby. A derby is never easy. As the saying goes here in France, you don't play a derby, you win it. I think we saw that with all the physical tackles throughout the game. So hopefully we get to go home with zero injured players. But especially six goals scored, it's - that's not done every day.
[Gilles looks resigned as Horan comes into the shot]
Horan: What was the question?
[Gilles completely loses it]
Journalist: So we have the Player of the Game and Vanessa Gilles. [Gilles is still losing it]. Vanessa, I have a quick question about your goal celebration. Can you tell us about that celebration?
Horan: No, we can't. [Gilles loses it again] We can't talk about that celebration. We can't.
Gilles: [imitating Horan's accent] We can't. [Horan loses it] We can't.
Journalist: Okay, then I'd like you to say something about your teammate, Lindsey Horan, whom we voted Player of the Game.
Gilles: Her? Player of the Game?
Journalist: Well she did score a hat trick. It was her first one for Lyon, that's pretty impressive for her part.
Gilles: If you say so. [Gilles and Horan both lose it]
Horan: Use your words.
Gilles: No, I'm really happy for her. A hat trick, it's [to Horan] Can you stop? I'm trying to be nice.
Horan: Okay, okay.
Gilles: It's true that we don't score hat tricks every day. I'm really happy for her and I hope it's the first of many for her at Lyon. Beyond that, she deserves it, she puts in so much work, sometimes we don't see it, like - how do you say it - defensively, etc. She puts in so much work, she's on every ball, she always puts her teammates in the right situation. So I'm happy that she scored that hat trick because she deserves it.
Journalist: We'll continue with Lindsey right after this, but one last question, Vanessa. We have a statistic, it's that you scored five goals in D1 Arkema, five headers. It's obviously your strong point.
Gilles: Yeah.
Horan: [patting Gilles on the head] The golden head.
Gilles: I don't score often with my feet, so - [Horan completely loses it] It's not a statistic that surprises me.
[Horan and Gilles lose it]
Horan: [still laughing] Incredible stat.
Journalist: Thank you very much, Vanessa. [Gilles completely loses it again]
Journalist: [in English] Lindsey, congratulations for the game. [Gilles is still loses it in the background]
Gilles: [to Horan] Do you need a translator or can I go?
Journalist: [to Gilles] [sounding resigned] You can stay to translate if you want.
Journalist: [in English] The first question - I'm going to do it in French - [in French] the first question, as we said, you were voted Player of the Game. How do you feel after your hat trick? It was your first hat trick with Lyon.
Horan: [in English] How do I feel about it? Sorry, that [your French] was quick. No, I'm very happy, I'm happy we won the game obviously. It's a cool moment for me, it's my first hat trick with the club, with Lyon. I know Sean has it, my ball, somewhere here. But obviously my team put me in good situations to score for tonight.
Journalist: It was a derby, it was highly anticipated here in Lyon against ASSE. For you whom are coming from overseas, is it something you have to learn to take seriously?
Gilles: Well -
Horan: [in English] Well we can see it.
Gilles: The fact we're not allowed to wear green here, that tells us how important the game is.
Horan: [in English] What she said. I felt like what you said was good.
Journalist: More broadly, regarding the team's beginning of the season, we only have wins, no goals conceded. It's a perfect start of the season.
Horan: Yes, we have a really good goalkeeper [Note: she uses the French word for goalkeeper but literally pronounces it as "gardian"].
[Gilles loses it]
Gilles: [in English] Pick a language.
Horan: Franglais is better.
Horan: [in English] One, I think it's a credit to - not just Vanessa - but all of the team defensively and what they do in the backline. As for how our team is progressing forward, we don't want to concede any goals, we want to go and win every single game and continue to play good football.
Journalist: One last question. [Gilles and Horan lose it] There are two more games coming up -
Gilles: I don't know why we're laughing.
Journalist: [nervous laughter] Indeed, it's a little complicated. One last question and we're done. [in English] Lindsey, one more question. Two big games to come. Two away games - [Gilles is still losing it] - against Reims and against Paris FC. [Horan starts laughing as well] It's maybe the biggest one, Paris FC, for the beginning of the season.
Horan: [in English] Yeah. Well I think we focus first on the game against Reims next week. I think that's most important. Have our bodies recover for that game because we took a lot -
Gilles: [to Horan in English] We took a lot of hits out there?
Horan: [to Gilles in English] Well it's true! Was that your answer over there? This is a different interview, isn't it?
Gilles: [in English] Well it's still my answer!
Horan: [in English] Goodness me. Anyway. Focus on that game and then we can move forward.
Journalist: [in English] [sounding depressed] Thank you.

If you feel like talking about it, can I ask how you feel about last night's storyline now that you've seen the whole thing? I think in the past that last scene would have had me swooning for a couple days. But now I just can't. I don't know if I'm realizing that a small resolution with minimal actual communication between them just isn't enought for me, or if it's the fact that the scene with Carlos acting so dismissive and uncaring still proceeds it which means that there still hasn't been any signs of growth and so I'm just fully prepared for the next conflict to be treated the same with secrets or non communication getting the flippant treatment.
I hate it though. I see others losing their minds over it and thinking it's so great and such progress and I respect their but don't agree. But I'm also so frustrated that I can't just make myself agree with them so I can continue to enjoy the show I once loved so much. The show and fandom have just become so frustrating for me that I've stopped watching and unfollowed all but two blogs that regularly post about it.
I'm basically in the same boat you're on.
Like, listen, I'm not going to complain (because I already did that to Sonia last night) because we got a hug and kisses which is what I've been begging for all season but I'm not on board with the great communication praise because that was, nearly beat per beat, a copy of what we saw in 2.4. I think great communication would've been them explaining why they want, or don't want kids to each other instead of to their parents. Or keep Owen and Andrea but shave some time off that first rescue (which went on way too long, we seriously did not need to see that couple joyriding for as long as we did or the second rescue which I feel like the set up to it went on too long) and gave TK and Carlos the time to talk to each other. If we're going with the reasoning that Carlos doesn't want kids because he doesn't feel like he's going to be good enough at it (which is in character) then I feel like TK should know that. And he should also be going to therapy and taking Gabriel with him. The decision to have or not have kids is a big deal and it's make or break for a lot of couples. The same way I personally couldn't be talked into having kids is probably the same way people can't be talked out of having kids and if they genuinely reach the conclusion one way or the other with all their cards on the table then that's fine. But right now it feels like Carlos has this trauma he's carrying around (shocker) that's holding him back but now it's also kind of holding TK back from what he wants. The way that that needs to be dealt with is obvious (kid talk aside) but my faith in it actually being dealt with is low. I'll believe it when I see it and not a second beforehand.
Long story short, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting but it's also not as good as it could be which does seem to be the theme of the season when it comes to Tarlos. Maybe I'm just so jaded by them and feel like they've already dug such deep a hole that it's going to take a lot more than this to pull themselves out of it. Like, do I want to write a 5+1 fic of them traveling the world and living their best life and then coming home and sleeping in their own bed, kind of. Am I there yet, no. Will I ever be? I don't know. This was definitely a step in the right direction but I want more for them and for us. Their part of the episode was fine, but I'm not losing my mind over it, and maybe I never will again. But it does suck to feel like that Spongebob meme where Squidward is watching Spongebob and Patrick frolic outside his window. I wanna frolic but I've locked all the doors and windows and I can't get out.

Gloria - One Year Later
Just like Lysandre, Gloria got a rerun just before anniversary.  And just like Lysandre, I had no other Steel types I used.  And Steel was worse, there was like nothing.  So, I was very dedicated to getting Gloria, and uh...yeah.  If I had to pick a single unit that I regret pulling for, especially when I did...Gloria might just be my #1 pick.
This is slightly unfair.  Gloria isn’t inherently a bad unit, so there’s not really a reason to regret her beyond personal preference and playstyle, and the fact Anni Lillie took me to double spark to hit 3/5, resulting in Anni N only getting 1/5, and if I hadn’t gone for Gloria I’d have had the gems for him too.  But I’ll try to articulate why Gloria has been one of the least impressive options.
At the time of acquisition, I was still pretty new to the game, and had very few resources to acquire EX with.  As a result, pre-sync clears were...not happening.  This was its own problem, but Gloria got a massive damage buff if the foe had a sync move.  That’s good!  Easy pickings for me who had to play a little more defensively because I didn’t have the offensive firepower.
But once I had that firepower, suddenly there was understanding around the limitations often cited for Gloria.  Her grid is legitimately atrocious, offering effectively nothing anywhere of value.  But moreover, the 50% damage bonus for the foe having a sync buff results in her four-bar move being made a lot weaker.  While not by much, it’s worth noting, it’s weaker than Lysandre’s Oblivion Wing.  It is that low.  This means, before the foe syncs, Gloria’s not dealing the best damage.  She doesn’t even have the option of self-setup; her trainer move is 1MP and offers only +2 attack in stats.  It doesn’t even help with crit rate.  Lysandre had better setup than this, and that was a 2MP move.
Thankfully, around the time of my acquisition, Gloria received an ideal partner in Hop, who could cap out attack and crit rate just fine, while offering some nice defense as well to shrug off those opposing sync nukes, while kicking off nearly every theme skill.  That’s really nice!  This was a great partnership that worked amazingly well.  But in the CS meta, you often want to pre-sync clear, and the closer you get to that, the harder it is to justify Gloria.  Granted, she continued to see good use because Steven never reran and I couldn’t get Alolan Grimsley and there weren’t a ton of options in the Steel type.  So she was always there.  But Steel-weak stages were always a bit...unpleasant.
Before I get to meta shifts, I do want to talk about Palentine’s Marnie.  P!Marnie is a fantastic partner to Gloria, providing not just Steel Zone, but defense debuffs, and attack debuffs to, again, survive sync.  This works really, really well...except for the part where Gloria/Hop/P!Marnie is so slow that it’s nigh-impossible to facilitate her four-gauge move, and Marnie’s Iron Head.  This has been a constant thorn in my side.  It probably speaks to the rest of her kit’s synergy that they often pull out a win anyway, but it can be a really frustrating time compared to other compositions that are more fluid and dynamic.  This can be alleviated with Sonia, who is a better buffer of defense, with more Potion use, more defense debuffs, and better speed control than Hop, however.  She also has access to Aaron, but she’s not someone who overall appreciates his unique buffing of accuracy.  It’s more incidental, and you likely want Potion with MPR more than his single-use heal.  So overall, Gloria’s received some tools, but it’s...it’s really just P!Marnie and Sonia.  Everything Gloria works with is Galarian, apparently.
With that out of the way, let’s talk meta shifts, and the real problem with Gloria.
10k Master Mode meant more points needed packed in, which I personally think hurt the old HP parameter set harder than anything, because you had to choose between a lot of extra firepower, or a lot of extra bulk.  It is outright unpleasant.  This was bad for Gloria in particular, who wanted HP parameters to help survive first sync from the foe, then tear into them.  When those parameters got hit, the meta got harsher for her.  She could do it, but it wasn’t quite as simple as it had been, and you really wanted EX to make her function.
The real problem, however, was Gauntlet.  Gauntlet’s introduction was great for most units.  The outclassed suddenly had real utility for longer win streaks, regardless of better options existing.  They could see the light of day.  Bulkier strikers often had benefits in the slower-paced game mode, while more technical Tech units that emphasized tricks over damage suddenly saw those tricks actually matter.  It was, generally speaking, a great time.  But not for Gloria.
Behemoth Blade, and her sync, require a sync buff on the foe to deal damage.  Fun fact: sync buffs reset per HP bar.  This is, as far as I’m concerned, the single biggest loss in the transition to Gauntlet.  This stings.  The worst part was that the only other damage dealer with this condition, SS Leon, only had it for his move damage, which had natural Ramming Speed from his passives.  His sync was normal, and had Inertia, to say nothing of his myriad options for self-setup, and potential support through Lucky 7.  Gloria was the sole loser in this transition, and there was effectively nothing to do for it.  She was cursed to have bad damage output at the start of every HP bar, practically ensuring they’d achieve a sync, which would improve her damage, but also meant she was taking a ton of damage herself through syncs and guaranteed AoE crits.  Gloria is not bulky.  This is a legitimate and serious problem.
To make matters worse, and continue this unfavorable comparison: SS Leon’s Lucky Seven makes him an absurdly good counter to Latias.  Dude debuffs like crazy, and his on-type matchups are, as a result, fantastic.  But Gloria’s on-type matchup?  It’s against Regirock.  She can’t buff crit rate to lower its defense, deals bad damage until after sync, and Regirock’s sync on the second HP bar cuts your attack by four stages.  Letting it get to sync in bar 2 meant Gloria may as well just give up.  She had lower BP, and now had barely any attack buffs to speak of.  It was over, wrap it up.  This is already painful enough, but then she’s also weak to Fire, which means even one of the easier fights in Entei is straight out.
As far as Gauntlet goes, Gloria would be, as my wife puts it, the last winner.  I cannot think of a single other character who took as badly to this meta shift as Gloria.  Wikstrom has more Gauntlet utility than Gloria.  Suddenly, her lower move damage was solely a hindrance, rather than something unique to play with once the first sync occurred.  It would reset and she’d be back where she started.  She has no particularly great matchups against anything, thanks to having almost no utility barring On a Roll Play Rough, and having virtually no self-setup.
Gloria...has it rough.  She has it really, really rough.  She’s a unit who has ultimately gained very little over time, and has suffered tremendously from meta shifts.  She has to be in the running for this new grid expansion.  There’s no way she’s not.  I know, Cynthia, Steven, and Lance have a greater need, and Lysandre is going to happen with the villain arc.  But I imagine Gloria’s another high-priority unit they’re aiming to buff, because boy oh boy, does she need it.

GS Story Segment: Bad Vibes (Searching and Searching)
As Sonia, Ann, Sora, and Niko walked in the Bennett's household, as they were invited by Javel, all of them began listening to his words and thoughts on the matter.
"I'm sorry that I have no information about Iris. I know that Cyrus must be worried as hell since he's the most close to her." he lamented.
"From what we know, Iris has always been under Cyrus's wing since the beginning and this situation made him stressed." Sonia added, "Iris may have been a little hard to deal with but I would've never thought it came to this."
"You're telling me, one day she's all over the place and the next, she's gone!" Javel grunted.
"Not to mention the group she's been hanging out with." Ann commeted, "Something about them just didn't feel right."
"Hmph. She made her choice with that group, so why should we be worried?" Niko remarked in an uninterested tone.
"I frankly disagree with you miss." Javel objected, "That group didn't seem all that trustworthy with Iris and I've feel some rotten energy."
"How can you be so sure? For all I know, they're just the group for that little-"
"And how can you be sure they're the right people for that type of person to be around?" Javel interrupted, "For what I've seen, she started to hang out with that group more than usual...and I think it had something to do with you."
When Javel's eyes peered to the side towards the group, he noticed some facial expressions: Sonia's sadness, Sora's unsettlement, and Ann's irritation. All of these confirmed his suspicions about what potentially happened and all he needed to do was for the group to confess. Although, an annoyed expression began to shape Niko's face.
"I see...so something did happen. Mind explaining the event that kickstarted this situation?" questioned Javel before being yanked by Niko.
"Listen here, how about you just let us be for a while. We don't need to tell you sh-" threatened Niko.
"There...there was a scuffle between Iris and Niko..." Sora blurted, "and Niko said stuff that made Iris run away from her, crying..."
With the sudden revelation that came out of Sora of all people, Niko was bewildered at her action to recall the event towards Javel, making her turn from annoyance to anger.
"Sora...how could you!? Why do you have tell this person what happened!?" yelled Niko.
"Niko, no matter how much you're trying to bury that event, it lead to someone kidnapped." Sora responded while trying to keep a straight face.
"So? People like her should have a wake up call about real life. They always want to sneer at people like who are just minding their own business just because they think they're so better than us."
Before she could rant her frustrations onto Sora, Niko noticed a change on Sora's expression. Something that was never shown before toward her or any person as her ears began to lower.
"Listen, I don't know what happened to you years ago that made you this way. But, right now, a person needs help and we need to act before something happens. So, quit it." asserted Sora.
Everyone in the room was shocked to see Sora in this state, even Niko as she felt uneasy around her. Niko eventually clams down from her frustration and gives in to Sora's demand.
"Fine." Niko declared as she begins to walk out of the residence.
With Niko stepping out for the rest of the conversion, Sora took this time to recollect her while facing away from everyone. In a moment, she turned around with a relived expresion.
"Well, that was tense. Didn't think Niko would hold her fire." exclaimed Sora.
"I'm just glad this didn't escalate into a full-fledged fight, otherwise, this place might get trashed." Sonia remarked, "Right now, we need to find out where Iris is and bring her back!"
"I agree", Ann admitted, "It's best to make our move before something happens."
As the four of them headed out of the door, Niko was nowhere to be seen. Sonia was about to say something yet Ann shook her head sideways, declaring that it'll be a waste of time. She silently nods in response and continued with their primary goal. Sonia starts to look back and see Sora with her ears drooping down.
"Hey Sora...are you...okay?" she asked.
"I'm alright! I just had to be assertive or else things would be worse!" Sora happily answered.
"Well, let's keep going." said Sonia.
"Yeah, let's." agreed Sora while concealing her true thoughts, "(I wouldn't want the same thing happen to Iris. Not then, not now.)"

So I finally beat the final boss of Tears of the Kingdom last week and after starting a nuzlock (no it's not going well) and sitting with thoughts I think I can finally give a review.
Annoyingly its 10/10.
Oh hey there are spoilers!
TOTK had a lot to live up to being the follow up to a game that still changes the gaming landscape and did it do that? Yes. Did it do that well? No.
It was really annoying to play as someone with as many thousands of hours as I do in BOTW, a lot because of the little changes. Some to do with places changing or being absent that really (personally) got to me and also to more general gameplay changes. First of all the slight change of the button layout with the way you switch abilities being mapped to L instead of up on the d-pad which i was far more useful. I get why it changed but after getting so used to BOTW its jarring to suddenly change.
Additionally found myself getting bored. I never did with BOTW and not with any other zelda game I have played (I have 100%ed them all). I couldn't say why with any confidence but one reason could be the sheer amount of stuff and just how uninteresting the plot was (get back to that).
The deal with the sheer amount of stuff and why I think that is an issue is that I ended up really overwhelmed. I mentioned in a post from when the game first game out I stopped myself going into the depths after I decided to wander down and I got so overwhelmed I ended up in tears and stopped playing for a week. After I finished all the dungeons I got all the lightroots to help with that but I haven't gone back since. It's rare I get so overwhelmed but it really did put me off and this wasn't the last time it happened.
Back to the plot, it was lacking. The idea was there but the way it was shown was really annoying. One reason was nobody seemed to acknowledge the story as it progressed. I finished the dragons tear quest after only two dungeons and it really frustrated me that no one seemed to care that Zelda was a dragon. Nor was it mentioned. Which seems off as the dragons tear quest was a main quest that usually impacts the story and results, but it just didn't seem too.
Another massive issue is the fact that the dungeons did not cut it. Sure they felt more like traditional dungeons however they where very much till the 'find the terminals and activate it to fight the boss'. What I miss is making your way through a dungeon and finding an item of ability that allows you to explore the rest.
All that being said, Its still a fucking fantastic game.
When I wasn't bored I was running around and getting lost (I somehow lost all ability to navigate the map though i have completed BOTW 100% twice and played it dozens of times) and finding little crevasses to explore, most of which would grant me a reward or a grand view (I'm an artist leave me be). I also loved seeing Hyrule being brought back and just overall be brought back together. I also love the sky.
The sky was what I was most exited about and though there should be way more up there, running around and hopping from island to island was really magical. I felt really free and also the small amount of information we got about the Zonai couldn't have peaked me interest more.
The abilities are also far superior than the runes and really opened up a game based on freedom even more. Plus the return of bomb flowers made me light up way too much when i first saw them.
Though the story disappointed me as a whole i still preferred it, mostly because we where living through it and it felt so much more alive. In BOTW the world felt so lonely as the races just focused on themselves while in TOTK the world is alive and bright with life as new houses are being built and the races are taking the world back for themselves. Also seeing the far past with the sealing of Ganondorf and the whole sideplot with Rauru and Sonia had me gripped.
All of this being said I will replay it for the rest of myself (and BOTW) like we all do with Ocarina of Time. Its a fantastic game that shows the best of the video game world today. I have no idea where Zelda is going next and I'm not sure Nintendo does. I think I will take the 'annoyingly' out of my 10/10 if the DLC helps fix this (when there is DLC) but I can only hope.

This part’s gonna basically be a misc. section for anything that doesn’t fit in the other parts. We’re almost done, trust me. (I’m as surprised as you that I could make so many posts about this game)
Didn’t care for Rauru. Not sure if it’s fully the fault of the VA, but the character felt very dry to me, and so it was unfortunate they were a major focus of the memory cutscenes this time around. Found myself wishing there was more time to tell the story in general. Sonia needed more scenes for me to care about her demise. Definitely felt like scenes were missing for Mineru. Given the similarities to the masked ancestor sages (Rito, Gerudo, and Goron), I was starting to think they weren’t given any focus because they’d turned out to be Riju and co. of the present, sent back in time. ..Was still kinda banking on that even after seeing the Zora ancestor. Nope, they’re just nothing characters, making me wish they reused the champions whose personalities were already established (and in all but Sidon’s case, stood out more than their present day counterparts in BotW1) (Riju’s story arc really elevated her this time around on that note)
Cannot believe they copypasted Zelda’s role from BotW1 with the whole “you get to see her doing stuff, but it’s in the distant(er) past.”  It’s so damn apparent fans want more for her, from her, but Nintendo will never allow it for some inconceivable reason. She had a noteworthy showing in the finale, and her major sacrifice was one of the better moments of this game, but the fact they undid her choice at the end without any visible consequences (horns, tatoos, anything) undermines her arc somewhat for me.
One of the best parts of the game came in the form of figuring out what happened to her after only viewing 2 specific cutscenes, ones that did not outright spell it. I tracked down my quarry and was ready to find the Master Sword, and sure enough...very happy it was a stamina requirement this time as well. Shame this insight and knowledge seems to only be held by the player and not Link, even after finding all the memory cutscenes in the wild that point out exactly what happened to her. Being led around the various main quests by Purah and not being able to interject with a “this can’t be Zelda” was pretty damn frustrating.
Also what IS Purah’s deal? I found the book explaining she Aged Herself Up, but I still find that choice very weird. She also had a newfound focus of a role as the leader ordering Link around, and being the only non-sage present in the ending. Was expecting Mineru to pass off her role to her, which would’ve explained everything, but instead she merely comes off as a beneficiary of dev bias.
Hate weapon durability, especially when Elden Ring did away with it. You know, the Souls series was kinda one of the go to examples of that system in recent years, and the fact they got rid of it while BotW2 tries so hard to justify using it confuses me more than anything else. Remapping the world via new Ubisoft towers did not feel right, but they needed a way to shoot Link into the air I guess.
Most sidequests, like shrines, felt like tutorials. The game’s content felt like nothing but ‘em half the time. I was so dumbfounded when the Sensor+ tutorial resulted in finding a Nothing Shrine I had to pause the game. Pretty damn sure that didn’t happen in BotW1.
Needing to rebuy/acquire all the old gear and materials is one of those harder to handwave facets of a direct sequel. No way Link got rid of all of that stuff. I feel like revisiting Zelda/Link’s house in Hateno should’ve netted at least some kind of material-based nest egg.
Found multiple areas/puzzles I could not finish because I did not find the corresponding sidequest for it first (Eventide pirates, a skeleton in a Gerudo desert cave as a couple examples)
Was enjoying 2nd phase Ganondorf till I accidentally tried arrows and nearly oneshot him..
While I didn’t look into what the various armor sets might do, it seemed like the nostalgia rewards, all variations of old Link outfits offered little beyond being cosmetic. In a game that’s already overburdened with armor set clutter. Menu clutter, in every menu..
Lastly: where the fuck is Kass??? Best BotW1 character and one of the few to not make it to the sequel (even if I liked his replacement, Penn, along with going around solving the stable mysteries)

Kazuichi, Byakuya, Shuichi, Nagito, Hajime, Taka, Sonia & Mondo headcanons with a partner who is the Ultimate Dreamer? As in they have a HUGE imagination and creativity. They always ramble about ideas, are easily distracted/zone out a lot and get very emotional when an idea for a story or art piece doesn't go according to plan? I know that's a lot of people so you don't have to do them all, i'm sorry
ofc!! its not too many ppl at all, dw!!!
~
Kazuichi Souda
-He’s right on your wavelength!
-He’s got a crazy amount of creativity, too, so he’s right there with you and egging on your ideas!!
-He even adds on to them if you want! He’s got a lot of suggestions for everything
-He also asks for suggestions from you when he’s blocked for ideas on what to build/examine next
-At first he’s kind of offended when you keep getting distracted while he’s talking, but once he realizes it doesn’t mean you’re not interested, he’s cool!
-Has no problem repeating what he said, even if he has to do it twenty times in one conversation
-Kazuichi can completely empathize with getting emotional when something doesn’t turn out right
-He gets the same way when it’s his own creations, so he knows exactly how you feel and how to help
-“Hey, Y/N, don’t worry about it, okay?! We can always try again! Plus, I think this turned out pretty damn cool, anyway...”
-He’s always encouraging you and complimenting all of your works, even the ones you don’t think are up to par. And he genuinely means everything he says
-You can count on him to always be there to motivate you to try again or move onto the next project
Byakuya Togami
-He’s honestly really impressed with how creative you are
-You’ll probably never know genuinely how much, because the most he’ll say is a “That’s quite an idea, Y/N”
-He’s going to get frustrated at first if you zone out often, so bear with him as he gets over himself a bit
-Once he does get more used to it, he’ll just sigh and repeat what he said. It isn’t much better than before, but at least he’s not rolling his eyes with a snarky reply anymore
-He kind of... nitpicks your ideas? He doesn’t mean it in a harmful way, he just wants to add on in his own way. He’ll add on his own suggestions for a more practical and successful approach
-He’s actually a pretty good listener, though you’ll mostly get hums and grunts as responses as he doesn’t have much to add onto your thoughts
-If you’re a writer, he’s fully willing to proof read your stuff! He won’t say that, of course, but you can tell by how quickly he gives in when you ask him
-When you get emotional that something didn’t go right, he’ll walk past you and take a look at it himself
-“...This turned out well, Y/N. Our minds expectations are always higher than what we can accomplish; or, you’re your own worst critic, as they say.”
Shuichi Saihara
-He’s amazed with how many ideas you have?? It seems like you never run out, and he’s so interested in hearing every one
-He doesn’t really have much to add on (and he kinda feels like he’s imposing by suggesting stuff) but if you ask he’s more than happy to give his own thoughts!
-Doesn’t mind you zoning out at all! He actually starts picking up on the signs that you are and either 1. catches your attention again or 2. gives you a minute before going on
-When you start getting emotional over something that didn’t turn out quite right, he’s right there beside you to ride it out with you
-“I-I think it’s amazing, Y/N, really!” and he does! But he knows what it’s like to not meet your own expectations, so he tries his best to be there for you
-And when you eventually pick up the motivation to start a new piece/work on your project again, he’s right there supporting you
Nagito Komaeda
-He’s astounded by how many ideas you have, and he wants to know about every single one
-This man is one of the best listeners you’ll ever meet
-He’s dead silent while you talk unless you want him to add stuff in or ask questions, in which he’s got you, too!
-He loves watching you work, and will gladly sit by you for hours just chilling
-Doesn’t mind at all if you zone out, but he may take it way too personally in a self hatred way, so make sure to reassure him it’s not because of him
-He’s so, so supportive of everything you make!
-He really does not understand how you could think that something didn’t turn out well, because “everything you do is amazing, my love!”
-He’s got so many compliments for every project you work on. It’s almost too much, but later on in the relationship he knows when to pull back
-If you’re a painter, he’d love to paint with you!! He has no qualms about getting messy, and he loves spending time with you!
Hajime Hinata
-He loves listening to all of your thoughts and ideas!!
-Secretly kinda jealous of how big your imagination is, but he won’t tell you that
-He doesn’t have much to weigh in tbh, he just likes listening, but he’ll give suggestions if you want!
-Tbh he zones out a lot, too, so he totally understands you! He’ll just gently snap your attention back if you ask him to!
-He’s also right by your side when he sees you start to get emotional over a project
-He tries his best to comfort you, mostly by complimenting the piece in question and reassuring you it looks great (and it does!)
-He’ll stick to just comforting you if you don’t want any compliments, tho. He’s a great hugger!
-If you draw, sometimes you’ll catch him sketching in his own little book after watching you draw. He only lets you catch a glimpse of it before he shuts it, but it looked... suspiciously like you?
Kiyotaka Ishimaru
-This man admires you so, so much. He has so much respect for you
-He’s not really an art person, so if your projects are art based he is so enamored by it! If you’ll let him, he’d love to sit in and watch you while you work!
-Your creativity is so fascinating to him. He loves hearing all of your ideas, and loves discussing them with you!
-He’ll try to add in suggestions, but if you want him to just listen he’s fine with that, too
-At first he thinks you’re zoning out because you’re being rude/disrespectful (and he’s a little hurt on the inside at the thought), but once you clarify that that’s not the case at all he’s 100% okay again
-Offers to proof read your stuff if you’re a writer! He may not be that good at creative writing, but he’s damn good at proof reading and editing writings
-He’ll absolutely ask for tips on some of the stuff that he’s interested in if that’s what you also do! (“Y/N, please teach me how to draw the other eye!”)
-He starts picking up on early signs that you’re starting to get emotional over a project, and he’ll rush to your side early to try and help out
-Whether it be by complimenting the piece (which he thinks is just... amazing, really, he doesn’t get how you don’t see that??) or just rubbing your back as you lament over it, he’s right there
Sonia Nevermind
-She’s so excited!!! She loves listening to other people talk about what they’re passionate about!
-She could spend hours just sitting with you and listening to you talk about your new ideas!
-She’ll get so excited if you ask her to weigh in with her opinion, so excited that she may fill up the suggestion with curse words on accident
-She doesn’t mind you zoning out at all! She knows it’s not intentional and she has no problem just catching your attention again and asking where in her sentence you zoned out so she can continue
-Sonia is very observant about the people she cares about, so she can see that you’re starting to get emotional over a piece before you even notice it
-At an instant she’s bringing you water and snacks, suggesting to take a break with her and relax for a bit
-If that doesn’t work, she’ll wrap you up in her arms to comfort you and remind you that even if this didn’t turn out exactly how you wanted, it still turned out amazing in the end, and that is something to be proud of!
Mondo Oowada
-Damn, he’s impressed. How do you have so many ideas up in your head?? He’s astounded with every one tbh!
-Sometimes he asks you for ideas for what he should build next! (He’ll also let you paint his stuff if you want)
-If you paint or draw, please ask him to join you one day. It will be hilarious and endearing (imagine him drawing a hideous stick figure and labelling it as you)
-He likes sitting you in his lap as you talk about your ideas, and he’ll hum as he listens to you; he’s more of a listener
-Doesn’t mind at all if you zone out! He’ll just hum and repeat himself; no harm done! If you’re apologetic, he’ll scoff and reassure you that he does not “fuckin’ care, babe, it’s not a big deal to say something again”
-He can tell if you’re starting to get frustrated by a piece not going according to plan, and he tries to coax you into taking a break before you get too frustrated
-If you still get emotional over it, he’s beside you rubbing your back soothingly and reassuring you that you can try again another time
-Brings you away from the piece to get your mind off of it, whether that be by motorcycle ride, movie, etc., he’s pulling out all the stops

how abt hajime saves antag reader from dying and that’s how she slowly starts to treat him decently and they somehow become kinda friends
Request for: Hajime Hinata Warnings: skin graft things (gore), self harm (hair pulling and scratching with intent to bleed), implications of verbal abuse, mental breakdown, fat game spoilers ~~~
“To think someone as stupid as you could build such mass weapons of destruction,” (Y/n) looked around the room, eyes catching on all the Monokumas Kazuichi had yet to dismantle and disarm. He had started with the small ones and wasn’t even half-finished yet.
“Hey,” Kazuichi whined, still working on taking apart a regular-sized Monokuma, “I’m not proud of them, y’know? That’s why I’m scrambling them.”
“No, I know,” she wandered over to the largest Monokuma, she was surprised it even fit inside the building it was so big, brushing her fingers over the cool metal, “This one’s falling apart.”
“Yeah, the bigger they are, the harder it is to keep maintenance, so I probably just gave up after a while,” the mechanic shrugged.
“Hm,” she hummed to herself, crossing her arms as she turned to face Kazuichi’s back completely, “I’m assuming that’s also why you rarely did such monsters.”
“Knowing me, yeah,” he gestured over his shoulder, still not looking at the girl, “Hubris is all that kept me making the big ones.”
“Typical.”
“What does that mean?!”
“Watch out!” a new voice entered the room, a hand grabbing (Y/n)’s arm and yanking her backward just in time for the arm of the monstrous Monokuma to clatter to the ground right where she had been standing.
Dread had sunk into the hearts of (Y/n) and Kazuichi - she would’ve been crushed to death if it wasn’t for… (Y/n) looked at the hand on her arm, following it to a face. If it wasn’t for Hajime.
Kazuichi immediately rushed towards the woman, grabbing her shoulders and shaking her as tears fell from his eyes and his lips quivered, “I’m so sorry, Miss (Y/n)! I should’ve been paying attention! I knew it was dangerous for you to be too close, I should’ve said something!”
“Let go of me, moron,” she smacked his hands off her shoulders, huffing before turning to Hajime and nodding curtly at him, “Thanks.”
Before anyone in the room could speak again, she charged out and into the hall.
Hajime sighed, “You save her life and she doesn’t even apologize for being an asshole.”
Kazuichi waved off the girl’s behavior and returned to his desk, “You should get away from that Monokuma.”
A creak from the giant robot was all the warning Hajime needed to get out as well.
~~
Teruteru had called everyone to dinner almost half an hour ago and even Hiyoko had come out to enjoy a meal with the others, but there was one person missing - (Y/n).
Of course, Hajime thought as he went down the hall towards her room, she’s being difficult. She’s always like this. So difficult, so rude. Teruteru worked in that hot kitchen for hours on end so that everyone could eat together and obviously (Y/n) wouldn’t show up.
He knocked on her door, waiting for a few seconds. No answer.
He knocked again. No answer.
One last time. No answer.
Frustrated at the lack of response, Hajime took the doorknob in his hand, calling out, “I’m coming in!” before doing just that.
He expected to find her asleep in her bed or maybe the bathroom door would be shut and he’d have to shyly leave lest he gets called a weirdo for barging in. Instead, he found her sitting in front of her mirror, staring at her own reflection with unblinking eyes.
She was tracing her nails over the stitches left behind by Mikan in the wake of her skin graft. Her other hand was resting at her thigh, patting the bandages covering the donor site of her skin. Suddenly, her nails bit into the stitches on her cheek, scratching at the scarring and tearing at the threads. She cringed in pain but didn’t stop.
“Stop!” Hajime lunged forward, grabbing (Y/n)’s hand before she could completely rip through the stitched patches on her face, his brows furrowed, “What the hell are you thinking?!”
If he stopped to think about it, yelling at someone in an unstable spot like this probably wasn’t the best decision, but he wasn’t thinking.
(Y/n)’s eyes were wide, why did he care?
He already saved her life, wasn’t that enough? He had to save her face too? Why was he even in her room?
“Why does it matter?” she wheezed, stuck between laughing and crying, shaking her head all the same, “I was great! I was incredible! Now- now- now- now- now- “ she felt tears roll from her eyes and burn at the bleeding stitches, “I’m fucking horrific! I thought I was above all of you but lately, it’s just been fuck up after fuck up after fuck up- “
Taken advantage of by Junko Enoshima - the girl who never loved her.
Scarred and mangled face - done by her own hand.
Almost crushed to death - Hajime had to save her.
“Hiyoko laughs at me and you look down on me and Mikan judges my face every time I go in for a checkup and Kazuichi pitties me and Fuyuhiko thinks we’re the same and Ibuki’s scared of me and Akane hates me and Sonia thinks I’m evil and Junko never loved me and Junko never loved me and you look down on me and you look down on me and you look down on me and you look down on me and you look down on me,” she began rocking herself back and forth in her chair, fat sobs tearing through her chest and throat, hiccups ripping over her, “I’m a failure… I’m a failure… I’m a failure…”
“You’re just human,” Hajime knelt down to be eye-level with the woman, taking both her hands in his and making her keep eye contact with him, “You’re allowed to make mistakes and fuck up. You were tricked and manipulated by Junko, we all were. We get to make up for that now by restoring the world. Nobody hates you or judges your face.”
“You’re lying, I know it,” she stomped her feet like a petulant child, more tears stinging at her skin, “I should’ve been perfect. Mother always said I had to be perfect, father always wanted the daughter and that’s what I am! I have to be… I have to be…”
“Your parents are idiots if they think anyone could ever be perfect,” Hajime untangled one of his hands from their interlocked appendages to place it over his heart, “Even Izuru kind of sucks, he’s uncaring and doesn’t show appreciation for anything. Nobody’s perfect, (Y/n). You need to realize that whatever your parents told you was just overcritical bullshit and there’s nothing wrong with you,” his eyes flickered to her bleeding stitches, “I’ll get Mikan, sit tight.”
Her head fell in shame as Hajime left. Her fingers tapped on the bandages covering her donor site, feeling a faint sting at the contact. Of course, Izuru Kamukura would save her again. Or try to, at least.
God, did he have to be better than her at everything?
No, he wasn’t better. He wasn’t better. She was great.
Her hands shot up and twisted knots in her hair, yanking as hard as she could to shut her own thoughts up.
The door opened, Mikan hurrying through with a little white box in her hand. She shakily took (Y/n)’s hands away from her head, and held her chin to inspect the injured area.
“It’s not too b-bad, thankfully,” the nurse murmured, opening the box and unwinding some thread, “It sh-shouldn’t take me too long.”
(Y/n) closed her eyes, letting Mikan work and doing her best to act as if the pulling and pinching didn’t bother her. She wasn’t in pain. She was fine.
There no memories of causing despair with Mikan and Junko running through her head. There was never competition between her and Mikan for Junko’s love. There was no time that she felt inferior to Mikan.
She was fine.
She was fine.
Once Mikan left, Hajime escorted her out, the two muttering amongst themselves for a few minutes before Hajime nodded and returned to (Y/n)’s side. He lifted her from the chair and carried her to bed, largely disturbed by how little she protested, “I could get you some food, if you want? Teruteru made a lot.”
Shaking her head, (Y/n) felt more tears rise to her eyes, “I want to cry.”
“Should I go?”
“No… yes… I don’t know…” she sniffled, hiccupping once again as she cried, “Izuru… what do I do…?”
“I wouldn’t know,” he sat by her on the bed, “I’m just Hajime Hinata, and besides, nobody can tell you how to deal with your emotions besides you. Or maybe a therapist.”
“Stay, please…”
“Then I will.”
~~
“Hiyoko laughed when I tripped on the beach this morning…”
“She’s always like that,” Hajime paused pouring the pancake batter into the pan to rethink his statement, “Well, she’s getting better. Slowly.”
“I keep screwing up,” she huffed, cracking an egg to pour the whites and yolk into a bowl. What she didn’t notice until after she’d already thrown out the broken shell and turned back to grab another egg, was that she’d accidentally gotten a speck of shell in the bowl. Pursing her lips, heat rushed to her cheeks.
Again.
It was just mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake-
“Ah, I do that all the time,” Hajime peeked over the girl’s shoulder, grabbing a fork to press the bit of shell into the bowl and drag it up the side and out of the eggs, “See?” he removed the shell from the fork and threw it into the trash, “All better.”
(Y/n) stood there for a few more seconds, antsy as she watched him go about his business like she didn’t just ruin breakfast. Her throat swelled with dread and her hands grew sweaty, “I messed up. Aren’t you gonna do something about it?”
“Like?”
“I- “ she held her tongue, shaking her head, “I thought- “
“It’s fine, there’s nothing wrong with a mistake,” Hajime shook his head, “You’re human, you’re going to mess up. Now whisk the eggs before Teruteru finds us and gives us ‘advice’.”
“Right,” she nodded, turning back to the eggs.
Hajime pursed his lips as quiet settled over them. He learned a lot about her within the previous hours of the night. She wasn’t a monster, she’d just grown up with the wrong people.
She’d done awful things and she’d make up for them in due time, the most she could anyway.
It was after she had passed out from crying and he went out to use the bathroom that Mikan would nervously, shakily utter the words that made everything click.
“I s-suspect she has a God complex stemming from overcritical parents…”
She was sick and needed help.
They all did.
She probably took the manipulation from Junko hard. Probably as hard as Mikan if the muttered, heartbroken repetitions of “she never loved me” meant anything. He wasn’t sure he wanted to know what those two girls went through at Junko’s hand.
Well, if it’d help, he would listen.
He wanted to help her. He wanted them all to heal and live better lives as they restored the world with the Future Foundation.
That would always include (Y/n). She was as deserving of healing as the rest of them. She was deserving of love. She wasn’t a heartless monster.
She was… becoming his friend.

**
It was pin-drop silent on the jet, everyone tangled in their own thoughts after dealing with the recent case. Spencer found himself in the back of the jet, staring out the window, his mind replaying every second of what happened three hours prior.
**
"This isn't who you are," JJ said, her gun aimed at the man.
"You don't who I am!" He shouted.
"You don't have to do this," Spencer reasoned. "Just let your daughter go and we can talk about this."
"We don't have anything to discuss!"
"Put your weapon down and we'll tell the DA that you cooperated with us," He heard Emily speak up from behind him.
Spencer had his gun aimed right between his eyes, their one was only one thing stopping him; the little girl.
The team's profile was spot on, he was a narcissist and he wouldn't go down with a fight.
"I'll admit it," Spencer said.
"Admit what?" The man asked, his grip on his daughter getting tighter as he held the gun to her head.
"That you are a genius," Spencer began.
"Spencer, what are you doing?" JJ said, without taking her eyes off the man.
"You've been killing people for months and no one noticed but as soon as you found out that the FBI knew it pissed you off because you knew that we were onto you. We disturbed your disposal and hunting ground and it upset you."
"You ruined everything!" The man spitted out. “It wasn’t supposed to end like this!” He seethe.
"This isn't who you are," Spencer argued. "You are sick and you need help. I promise if you put the gun down and let your daughter go I will get you the help you need. This doesn't have to end this way. There is a better way," Spencer saw the attitude of the man slightly change as he slowly lowered his gun.
Just then four police officers barged in, guns pointed at the man.
"Police! Put the gun down, now!" They shouted.
"Oh," The gun raised his gun again. "Well played agent!" He shouted. "You almost had me let go."
"PUT THE WEAPON DOWN OR WE WILL SHOOT. PUT IT DOWN!" Spencer heard the officer yell.
"Not if I do it first."
"Nooo wai - "
It was too late.
**
Spencer felt someone shake his shoulder, pulling him away from his heavy thoughts.
"We landed," Hotch said.
Everyone grabbed their belongings, hopped in the SUV's and drove back to BAU. Once they arrived, Garcia greeted them with hugs at the elevators knowing they were very much needed.
The team finished up their paperwork in silence. After two hours, Spencer looked at his phone and saw 2 missed calls from you. Spencer and you had plans to stay home and have a nice dinner but that didn't end up happening. Spencer put his phone down and stared at the small picture on his desk of you and him from a couple of months back.
"I know that look," Spencer looked up to see Rossi standing by his desk.
"Y/N was going to cook a homemade meal and we were going to spend the night watching movies," Spencer replied.
"This is the hardest part of the job Spencer."
"I know," Spencer grabbed his satchel and pushed in his chair. "She's very understanding and never says anything because she knows this is my job. It's just happened too many times."
"Some days are rougher than others," Rossi put a hand on his shoulder. "It's been a long four days." Spencer nods in agreement. "Do you want to talk about what happened?"
Spencer shook his head. He didn't want to talk to anyone, he wanted to go home and be with you.
"I'm fine," Spencer wasn't fine though, he was far from being fine, he felt as though he might drown in his emotions.
"If you say so," They both took the elevator down and before separating ways Rossi stopped him.
"Spencer I know you're lying about being okay," Spencer didn't look up at Rossi as he was pushing back his tears. "You need to talk to someone about it, you understand me?"
Spencer nods.
"Good," Rossi patted his back. "Now go home because you have an amazing woman who is probably still waiting for you. Goodnight Spencer," Rossi said, getting into his car and driving off.
**
You weren't upset at Spencer for being late or not responding to your texts, you knew what you signed up for. At times it could be frustrating because you would call to check-in on Spencer but when you wouldn't get an answer for hours you started to worry.
Tonight was one of those moments, pacing back and forth in the living room dialing Spencer's phone for the hundredth time. When you got no answer you were about to grab your purse when you heard the doorknob turn.
Seconds later Spencer came into your view and he looked exhausted. You watch as he drops his keys and Stachel on the floor beside the coat rack. Spencer looked up and noticed you standing there.
"Thank god yo-" You were cut off by Spencer running to hug you. He crashed into you, causing you to almost lose your balance but you steadied yourself. "Spence, what's wrong?" You asked, wrapping your arms around him. You could tell he was holding his breath. "Breathe, my love," You said. "Come on," You guided him to the couch, where he laid his head on your lap.
"I'm sorry I missed dinner," Spencer said as you moved some of his hair out his eyes.
"It's okay my love, I burnt the lasagna so I ended up warming up leftovers."
"Of course you did."
"Hey," You said playfully hitting his back." You know I'm not the best cook," He let out a small chuckle.
"I'm still sorry that I was late."
"Spence, it's okay. I was just worried when I called you a million times and you didn't answer any of my calls."
"My phone died."
"What happened?" You noticed Spencer close his eyes because you could see his reflection in the tv, which was off. "Was it that bad?" Spencer nodded, as he started to slightly shake. "You have to let it go," You spoke.
Spencer got up from your lap and started to walk away but you pulled at his forearm, halting his steps.
"I don't want you to hear about this case," Spencer whispered.
"This case was hard, I can see that," You said, pushing him to sit down again. "Please don't keep this inside of you. It won't do you any good," You pleaded.
Spencer closed his eyes, his mind taking him back to the house. His ears ringed as he could still hear the gunshot go off, the white wall now covered in blood splatter.
"I couldn't save her."
Spencer sat back and explained everything to you from the second Garcia presented the case to when they delivered the profile to the last second the gunshot went off.
"I told him exactly what he thrives off of. He was even lowering his weapon until the cops barged in and everything went downhill from there," You rubbed small circles on Spencer's hand. "He killed his daughter," Spencer's words sent chills down your back. "She was four years old." Tears began to fall from Spencer's eyes. "Four, Y/N."
Listening to the case broke your own heart but you had to be strong for Spencer.
"I had the aim," Spencer continued. "I could have put a bullet through his head but I also believe that not everything has to end up in us shooting someone. I ju-just thoug-thought I had him."
You stayed silent knowing Spencer wasn't finished.
"I should have just shot him."
"There was no way you could have known he was going to do that," You said lifting Spencer's head.
"I did though," He said, almost angry. "I just didn't shoot because I thought if I outsmar-" You wiped Spencer's tears. "She cried for help, as JJ, Emily and I stood there with our guns pointed at him, she cried for him to let go."
"Spencer you did your job an-"
"If I did my damn job that little girl would have been alive today!" Spencer yelled you were taken back by his tone of voice. Spencer noticed that you slightly flinched at his tone. "I'm sorry," He said. "I just I don-don't know how I will move on from this. We go out there and sa-" Spencer couldn't even finish his sentence without more tears streaming down his face.
"Listen to me," He looked up at you. "Despite seeing the horrors that you do every day, you still manage to save lives. Every case may not be a win in the books but you have to learn to be okay with that. Sometimes you won't win and it'll hurt but you'll be okay," Spencer sniffled. You could tell that Spencer was still holding back on his emotions. "You need to let it out.”
Spencer's head falls in his palms, sobs rack through his body. You wrap your arms around him and he melts into your touch.
You kiss his forehead. "I love you so much."

fave dr ships and why?? :0
Hmm, that’s a pretty fun question! There are so many fun character interactions in each game that there’s a lot of ships I really like, so I’ll try to briefly just touch on some of my favorites in each game!
There aren’t really any spoilers in my reply, but I’m going to include a read-more anyway because even trying to keep it brief, there were a lot of ships to cover, so it still got pretty long.
In dr1, I honestly really love naegiri. Naegi gets a lot of flack for “not being interesting enough” or “not bringing anything to the table,” but I think he worked really well as the protagonist for the first installment of the series, and I absolutely think he and Kirigiri have a lot of great chemistry. Kirigiri and Naegi’s relationship is all about finding a balance between doubt and belief, and both of them really help each other grow as people. I think their dynamic is at its best in the first game, since Kirigiri gets so much time to shine and really feels more like the deuteragonist of the series than anyone else. Plus watching Naegi try to learn how to read her stoic façade when she’s really quite emotional under the  surface is so much fun.
I’m also a huge fan of aoisakura. I love everything about their interaction, and chapter 4 of dr1 is still one of the best in the whole series in my opinion. Both of them care so much about each other even from early on, and Aoi’s anger at how the others treat Sakura or talk about her like she’s hardly even a person comes across as so legitimate. It’s such a great and largely underrated ship, so I always love to see it.
I also have to say that I like kirizono quite a lot! They don’t have much in the way of interaction in canon, considering how early Maizono dies, but it’s one of those ships where I’m much more interested in the overall potential. Kirigiri seems to have a very good grasp of what Maizono was actually like as a person and what she might have been thinking in her final moments. While she uncovers the truth of the events of chapter 1, she doesn’t see Maizono as irredeemable for tricking Naegi, but merely as someone who was scared and who ultimately couldn’t go through with her own plan. She knew that Maizono was trying to help Naegi in her own way by leaving him a dying message, and I would have loved to see a detective-and-assistant duo with Kirigiri and Maizono in some alternate universe.
Other ships from dr1 that I enjoy even if I’m not super invested in them from an analysis standpoint are celesgiri (how could I not ship the original liar and detective), naekusaba (DR IF really sold me on this one), ishimondo (all around a solid, great ship), and naegami (honestly I just think the idea of Kirigiri and Togami both dating Naegi but barely tolerating each other as friends is really funny).
Sdr2 is probably the game where I wound up the least invested in shipping, but there are still a few that I like!
Hinanami isn’t quite as appealing to me as naegiri, mostly due to Nanami being used twice for Hinata’s character development, but they have some really cute moments that I do enjoy a lot, and I really love any interaction between the two of them as gamer friends. Nanami is so much more mischievous than most people give her credit for; I still can’t help remembering when I replayed sdr2 a year or two ago and got to the part with her threatening to poke Hinata’s eyes out during an investigation, and I nearly lost my shit because I didn’t remember it at all from previous playthroughs.
I’m not quite as invested in komahina as I thought I would be when I first got into DR, but I definitely don’t mind it either! I think Komaeda’s feelings for Hinata are pretty textual and undeniable; lines like “I’m in love with the hope that’s sleeping inside you” are impossible, in my opinion, to handwave as “just a friend thing,” and Megumi Ogata has all but stated outright that her character song for Komaeda is specifically about Hinata.
Of course, I definitely think Komaeda would need to work on a lot of his internalized ideas about talent and self-worth, and that he and Hinata would have to start as friends first before carrying their relationship into anything romantic, but if their really cute interation in ndrv3’s talent development plan is anything to go off of, I think Hinata definitely does want to help Komaeda value himself more and wants to be friends with him.
As for other ships that I enjoy more casually, I like twobuki (if that’s even what people are still calling Twogami/Impostor and Ibuki as a ship), sondam (all of Sonia’s nerding out about Gundam’s chuunibyou interests is honestly super adorable), nanamiki (I feel like Nanami and Mikan could honestly have a cute dynamic if Mikan weren’t under Junko’s influence), and… I actually have no idea for this ship name, but Impostor/Hinata is really sweet. This is more related to dr3, but one of the few things I did come out feeling positively about was Impostor/Mitarai, despite everything else about how the story turned out.
Finally, there’s ndrv3! There’s quite a lot of ships I really love here, so it’s actually a little hard to narrow it down.
I hardly think I need to mention saiouma at this point, since it’s the ship I talk about the most on this blog, but it’s still my favorite ship from pretty much anything ever. I love their dynamic so much: the way they both embody the themes of “truth” and “lies” within the game respectively, the way they constantly want to know more about each other while being afraid to open up or trust each other completely, and the fact that they so perfectly manage to capture the chase of the “phantom thief vs. detective” trope to the point that it was even lampshaded in Ouma’s love hotel... all of these things just make it so much fun.
It’s another ship where I just love thinking about the potential, whether in an AU where Ouma might have lived or else where the killing game never took place at all. I honestly really love ships that deal with a lot of slow-burn and both characters thinking their affections are unrequited when it turns out they’re actually both just idiots with a bad case of pining. I also really love the fact that, in my opinion, it’s a ship where Saihara would have to really take the initiative in the end—otherwise, Ouma is just going to keep trying to run away every time he drops an “I love you,” or “you’re my favorite.”
I also really, really love himiten. It’s a ship that gets a lot more flack than it deserves, in my opinion, and it’s sad to see that it’s a little underappreciated these days. There are flaws and problems within the ship, of course, but these are things that are actually addressed within the game itself. Himiko’s apathy and disregard towards Tenko’s feelings is called out pretty bluntly in the later parts of chapter 3, and she winds up mourning Tenko’s death and taking her last advice to heart more than anyone else.
Meanwhile, while Tenko certainly meant well and always had Himiko’s best interests at heart, it’s true that she came across as somewhat condescending sometimes (albeit unintentionally) by treating Himiko like a cute animal instead of a person.  I think that she understood Himiko’s feelings a lot better by chapter 3, which is why she prioritized trying to let Himiko talk to Angie one more time despite her own misgivings about Angie. Tenko grew a lot more as a character than a lot of people give her credit for, and I would have loved to see any post-game scenario where Himiko and Tenko could’ve finally started a relationship on equal footing outside of the game.
I actually have two entire ships for Miu that I am equally fond of. Both kiiruma and irumatsu are really great in my opinion, in totally different ways. The sheer chaotic potential of kiiruma gets overlooked a lot of times, I think, but both of them are complete disasters. They have so much fun together and it really shows, both in canon and in the talent development plan as well. Kiibo is so wonderful and I love him so much, because you’d think he’d be the voice of reason as a “cold, logical robot”—but honestly, he’s just as messed-up and over the top as Miu. I mean, he did photograph her poop on what turned out to be a live audience national broadcast and he didn’t see anything wrong with this.
Kiibo is one of the few characters who vocally talks about missing Miu after her death in chapter 4, and he repeatedly tells her how much he appreciates her maintenance work on him both in canon and in one of their talent development scenes. In one such scene, he even mentions wanting to continue their ongoing relationship after they graduate, which I think is surprisingly sweet and adorable for the two of them. Honestly, Miu is about as wild as a DR character ever gets, and I love the idea of her and Kiibo just having fun with each other.
Meanwhile, Kaede and Miu’s dynamic is a lot more back-and-forth. Kaede spends a good part of her FTEs absolutely frustrated and fed up with Miu, but also decidedly worried for her well-being and wondering how she might get her to be more of a team player. She’s not afraid to put her foot down when Miu crosses the line, but she’s also one of the few people who’s ever been willing to stand by Miu and encourage her or actually be her friend in spite of how awful Miu is at interacting with others.
Even in the talent development plan, Kaede’s often seen together with Miu a lot, which I think is super cute and confirms that even at Hope’s Peak, she’d still be trying to make sure Miu had a friend around. And she was able to tell that, despite what a disaster Miu’s idea with the Christmas lights was, it was Miu’s own way of trying to add to the festivities and do something nice for other people. All in all, it’s one of my favorite wlw DR ships, and I really love when fanworks capture just how shy or flustered Miu got around Kaede sometimes.
Of course, I like momoharu a lot as well! It’s one of the ships that has grown on me quite a bit in my absence, mostly just because despite all of Momota’s flaws, he really does want Maki to love herself first and foremost. Maki’s own feelings for Momota are so important to her character growth and really represent her feeling as though she’s finally made a choice for the first time in her life, and it’s really heartwarming to see. Also, any ship where the girl could lift a guy up with one arm without breaking a sweat is a pretty good ship in my opinion.
As for other ndrv3 ships that I enjoy a lot, there’s saihoshi (Hoshi is extremely underrated as a character, and I adore how sweet his FTEs and salmon mode with Saihara were; it’s also another ship where I feel Saihara would have to really take the initiative to make Hoshi fully open up, which I like), amamatsu (Kaede and Amami had a lot of really funny, great interaction in chapter 1 and some fun banter in their FTEs, so I would’ve loved to see more of it), and harumatsu/kaemaki (again, they have a lot of potential and it would have been extremely interesting to see them interact more).
I also like saiibo, not so much in the way that most people ship it (their love hotel is cute, don’t get me wrong!), but mostly because Kiibo’s FTEs are the funniest set of FTEs in the whole game in my opinion, and the twist where they were both looking down on each other without the other one knowing just made my jaw drop before I started laughing my ass off. They’re almost as much of a disaster together as Kiibo and Miu are, and I think the humor in their dynamic sometimes gets overlooked.
There are even more ships that I like, and I could keep going on and on, but I should probably leave things off here. Character interactions are so much fun in DR, both because of the genuine growth and character development from a lot of the cast, but also because so many of them are so whacky and borderline cartoonish that it’s just really fun imagining further interactions between them. Thank you for the fun ask, anon!

REPLIES TO THE SWEETNESS OF FORBIDDEN FRUIT
Tumblr media
@whyhellosims
Joël you're a treasure XD And man, I feel for Roy (i know, bad form, but I'm weak for him, don't shame me). It's tough when someone you care about acts like they don't care about you at all in return. I know it's not like that all the time, but enough instances like that and you just walk away, because what's the point? If they're not interested, no use sticking, right?
I am a defiant Roy apologist also! But the situation with Saoirse is very difficult for him to accept. He is doing his best however, and trying to give her the space she needs. I think she needs to be careful though...there are plenty of other women out there who would love to sink their hooks into him! ;=)  And she shouldn’t forget either that Roy is someone who needs a lot of affection (especially after being married to Sonia for so long!) But on the whole I think she is handling Roy very well, and knows how to keep him wanting more so his attention doesn’t wane. This is also what kept him in his marriage to Sonia so long- it was a constant challenge.  Roy is someone who gets bored very easily if he isn’t challenged.
@whyhellosims
Also, P.S., I probably need to see those pics, Joël. For Science 👀
Check the Roy tag on my Pillowfort for a LOT more Roy ;=)
But obviously
Tumblr media
@streetlightaurora
Roy finally got his girl and he's still not satisfied 😅
Tumblr media
@stsciurussimblr
Ah, Roy! It’s nice to know that some things in life never change. 😂
Tumblr media
@phoenixfg
Roy!! It's what you wanted son!!🙄 Plus, now my fat ass wants a Big Mac with a frozen caramel frappe! Great job on the build Pru!!👍🏾
Thanks so much, Dooood! And I think your ass should have whatever it damn well wants, whenever it wants, lololol!!
Tumblr media
@windermeresimblr
Roy is such an asshole. Like, the world does not revolve around your dick and your "needs" regarding your dick! Also, way to go bad-mouthing Sonia and Saoirse in front of the kids. Could you pretend to respect them for five minutes, at least?
He made sure the kids weren’t in hearing distance though before he started talking about sex and Sonia and Saoirse. I made a point of mentioning that in the text, because he’s been mistakenly accused of talking about sex and his dick in front of the kids in the past.
@windermeresimblr
I mean, it's not a good look to complain that your partner isn't interested in sex and imply that they should be always READY TO GO whenever you are. They're separate people with their own lives and bodies and interests...
...and sexual partners!
Tumblr media
@sweetnovember77
Apparently, the mind mistakes excitement for 'happiness.—the thrill of the chase. Once the honeymoon period dies down, thats when things can seem 'boring' or 'uninteresting'. It seems like Roy has come to an awful realization… he and Saoirse are somewhat of a boring couple.
Roy isn’t in the least bit bored. Why would he be begging her to come over if that was the case? He wants Saoirse more than ever, and is frustrated that she doesn’t seem to feel the same way. The fact that she refuses to pander to his ego and cater to his demands makes her even more irresistible to him.
@sweetnovember77
Similar to monotonous commentators. Yes, we understand that you feel one way. What’s new? There is no thrill in a tedious lack of variety. Maybe Saoirse could step out of her comfort zone, sometimes.
Saoirse made a deliberate effort to move out of her comfort zone by moving out of Roy’s penthouse. She has no problem dealing with the unknown and challenging the status quo. It’s what she’s done her whole life.
@sweetnovember77
*monotonous comments. 🥱
Tumblr media
@wannabecatwriter
He totally should make money from those pics. Just saying. I'm sure Roy would get a kick out of being a pornstar.
OMG he totally would!!! In another life I’m sure he would be!!
Tumblr media
@rillensora
Ooh Roy, the fruit isn’t as delicious when it isn’t forbidden anymore, eh? ;)
Perfectly put!!
Tumblr media
@shhhushhh
Good thing Sao keeps being strong and not letting Roy's little mindfuckig games succeeding. What was he expecting - her to ditch her planned night and spend it with him just to prevent him going to a prostitute??
I think his primary motivation was trying to one-up her, knowing Roy...no one is safe from his competitiveness, not even Saoirse!!
@shhhushhh
Lucky for him she told him to treat himself. I would have said for him to go f* himself and never come back.
Hee hee...my reaction would have been the same as Saoirse’s to be honest! And then I would have asked for details the next day...
Tumblr media
@ktarsims
If he’s deliberately baiting her, and then feeling depressed she didn’t fall for it, he seriously needs some therapy. Dude, be happy you can do what you like and she doesn’t mind. 🙄
Lol!! I enjoy seeing Roy like this though, continually being beaten at his own game...it’s delicious!
@phyresimblr
I can’t help but wonder if Saoirse really doesn’t mind, or if she doesn’t mind because minding would mean laying a claim on Roy she isn’t ready for him to lay on her in return. Maybe, Roy, you should consider opening yourself up to her and expressing how her indifference makes you feel, rather than this passive-aggressive stance that’s reminiscent of a certain marriage that was loooong past expiring before it failed. Think of that donkey, Roy!
ah....very interesting! I think there’s a lot of merit in what you say. I can tell you that Saoirse genuinely doesn’t mind, (and in fact she has proposed she and Roy going to The Pony as a couple, and got turned on hearing about Roy’s exploits with Crystal when she was still living in Sunset Valley) but exactly WHY she doesn’t mind is a fascinating question. And yes, falling into old patterns of behaviour can only be damaging...thank you for recognising that! Hopefully Roy can too.

Aquaheartshipping headcanons
They were instant besties as gym challengers. They were both girly popular girls. But Nessa was more sporty and Sonia was nerdy. They just blended well together.
Nessa gets very frustrated if she has the occasional losing streak. Sonia will bring her all her favorite foods and beauty products like face masks and candles to cheer her up and pamper her. Along with affirmations that she is a good gym leader and strong trainer.
Nessa keeps an eye out for pretty shells around hulberry or interesting things at the market to get Sonia. Her mom even helps her by keeping an eye out for things  Sonia might like.
Nessa has talked Sonia into doing photoshoots with her on multiple occasions. Sonia is always hyped until she remembers how little modeling practice she has. She never knows what to do with her limbs or how to emote. Nessa and the photographer always try to guide her, but sometimes she feels like a ditto next to a swanna. Until she sees the photos and how well they turned out. Then shes all "I cant believe I almost forgot I was that bitch."
Nessa has brought Sonia on family vacations before. Her grandma in Alola really likes Sonia and always asks when she can plan the wedding.
Professor Magnolia also adores Nessa. Shes always welcome to have dinner with them ever since she was a kid. Whenever theres news about water types or phenomena that can be used in battle (like dynamax or mega evolution) Magnolia always shows Nessa, who is fascinated everytime.
Before dating, Nessa always jokingly referred to Sonia as her mistress. Because she said it sounded classier than girlfriend or gal pal.
Swap clothes all the time. Then have a moment Of "damn I have good tastes" when they see their clothes on the other.
They both have decided that Bea is their child. Shes always training to her limit or dealing with her parents, the poor girl needs some fun in her life. Thus Sonia and Nessa to the rescue. In Beas parents eyes, you have a professor and a gym leader, two respectable and responsible women to keep an eye on their daughter. Yes they are going to go train in the wild area, but not before some shopping and eating cake at the cafe.
Sonia is a terrible swimmer. Nessa has done her best to teach her. Sonia wont drown in a pool anytime soon, and Nessa is certain anything more than that is asking too much.
Sonia has a collection of every magazine Nessa has been in since she was teenager. Its honestly impressive, she has them all organized by year.

I adore your talentswap backstories! I'd like you to write some headcanons for my Talentshift SDR2 au. It consists of Mechanic!Hajime, ReserveCourse!Mahiru, Photographer!Ibuki, Musician!Fuyuhiko, Yakuza!Gundham, Breeder!Chiaki, Gamer!Mikan, Nurse!Nagito, Lucky!Imposter, Imposter!Peko (impersonating non-despair Junko), Swordswoman!Sonia, Prince!Nekomaru, Coach!Teruteru, Chef!Hiyoko, TraditionalDancer!Akane, and Gymnast!Kazuichi. If not, I completely understand.
Hey anon! I’m glad you enjoyed them! ^_^ And I’d be happy to make some headcanons for your AU. But just to let you know anon, I would appreciate it if you asked me first before sending me your listed requests. I honestly don’t mind writing headcanons for talentswaps (I honestly enjoy doing that) but I would appreciate you asking me and then sending them to me. That way it doesn’t take me by surprise.
So without further ado, here are my headcanons for your SDR2 Talentswap AU.
Peko Pekoyama as the SHSL Imposter
While Peko was adopted by the Kuzuryu Clan, she didn’t have a choice in her lifelong profession like Fuyuhiko did.
She was made to work as an infiltration agent.
As a professional imposter, Peko learned how to analyze and copy the body movements and behaviors of any potential person.
She also was taught how to apply makeup to make her disguises as accurate as possible.
Her assignments involved abducting low level workers of rival clans and taking their place while disguised as them.
She’d then relay the rival clan’s weaknesses and business transactions towards the Kuzuryu’s so they can exploit them.
Peko was discouraged from having any personal interests or hobbies so that her infiltration and identity theft skills wouldn’t be tarnished.
This made Peko feel more like a tool and how she only existed to promote the success of the Kuzuryu Clan.
When Fuyuhiko was scouted to go to Hope’s Peak, her superiors used their connections to grant Peko a spot with him to keep an eye on him.
She would take on Junko Enoshima’s image given that the supermodel was busy with her own personal affairs.
Although no one can recognize her while disguised, the viewer/player can recognize Peko with her thick glasses and piercing red eyes.
Hiyoko Saionji as the SHSL Chef
Hiyoko came from a family of culinary masters who amazed Japan with their creative and flavorful dishes.
There was unfortunately alot of drama within the family as they each wanted to train Hiyoko so they can pass their personal culinary training onto her.
Her grandmother managed to win and was one of the most ruthless teachers ever.
Under her training, Hiyoko received burns, cuts and having her food thrown in her face just for making the smallest of slip ups.
Her brutal training mixed with having negative relations with her family made her bitter and aggressive towards everyone around her.
She also has a hard time trusting others to work with her in the kitchen due to multiple incidents where dishes were poisoned and nearly tarnished Hiyoko’s reputation.
Because of this, she prefers to work alone in the kitchen. When she’s assigned to work with partners or underlings, she can be best described as Gordon Ramsay if he were a sassy lost child.
She often holds a knife or a frying pan whenever she’s threatening someone she doesn’t like.
Her culinary specialties involve desserts such as wasabon and kompeito.
Ibuki Mioda as the SHSL Photographer
Throughout her childhood, Ibuki was neglected by her caregivers so she took up photography as a means of distracting herself from the loneliness of her household.
She managed to earn her success by taking high quality photos of lovers in romantic situations.
At her middle school, she made it a game for herself to see how many pictures she could get of different couples at her school without getting caught.
While developing her photos, the couples tried to chastise Ibuki for her actions but they immediately changed their minds when they saw how cool the photos looked.
Ibuki gained a reputation among her peers for her photos and now everyone wanted one too.
This resulted in Ibuki getting alot of “friends” who only wanted to hang out with her just so she could photograph them doing what they wanted while conveniently leaving out the photographer herself.
The fact that these people only cared about her talent so she can capture their memories for them gave Ibuki a sense of familiar loneliness.
Despite this, she wants to enjoy her talent as much as she can with an upbeat attitude.
Ibuki’s favorite subject to photograph are people.
She loves to people watch since the people walking around come in different shapes and sizes and are always doing something unique that you wouldn’t expect.
Sonia Nevermind as the SHSL Swordswoman
Sonia came from a family of professional swordfighters who taught her the power of the blade at an early age.
She grew up on European fairy tales and legends of powerful heroes who used their swords to fight for justice or prove their superiority against enemies who opposed them.
Her family taught her classical fencing, mordhau, the half-sword, destreza and several other fighting styles which she claims are a secret.
She earned her title after winning multiple swordfighting tournaments, many of which were held underground.
Despite her victories, she’s actually been hospitalized due to the extreme injuries she received from sword wounds and physical attacks from her opponents.
Since these wounds have yet to diminish her fighting power, Sonia feels that it’s best to pay them no mind so she can continue her family’s legacy.
She’s never seen without her longsword which she made herself. She calls it Stjerneild because there were shooting stars on the night of making it and also since she burned herself during the process.
Sonia isn’t afraid to boast about her fighting skills and eagerly offers her girl friends the chance to learn how to use a sword.
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu as the SHSL Light Music Club Member
Rather than becoming the next heir of his family business, Fuyuhiko wanted to pursue his dream of being an idol.
He takes his career extremely seriously and wouldn’t do stupid stunts or scandals that could jeopardize his work.
To make up for his young appearance, Fuyuhiko uses outfits that have a punk aesthetic while also incorporating black and gold color schemes to make him look older.
Alot of his songs feature themes of embracing your personal talents or how it’s better to carve your own path rather than rely on others.
He knows how to play the electric guitar and the keyboard.
Having refused his parents’ intended career plans, he feels that he can’t screw up his career or else everything he ever worked for will be for nothing and he’d have to crawl back to them for support.
His sister Natsumi often joins him during his tours and unofficially becomes his manager and bodyguard during her visits.
He has a hard time dealing with fanclub meetings because the fangirls would make jokes about his baby face which would drive him insane.
Akane Owari as the SHSL Traditional Dancer
Just like in canon, Akane had to take care of her younger siblings while struggling to survive her poor hometown.
While she did take different jobs to support her family, she would lose those jobs constantly because she kept getting into fights against strangers who tried to grope and harass her.
One day, while she was training by herself in an empty plaza, a woman passed by and paid close attention to her fighting form and rhythm.
She revealed herself to Akane as a traditional dance instructor and offered to train Akane to perfect her skills.
The girl wasn’t interested in doing something fancy like dancing but she changed her mind when she realized that her dancing could be used to raise money for her family. To which, she accepted.
While the instructor taught Akane the fundamentals of mai and odori techniques, the girl performed better when she used her own skills.
While frustrated, the instructor decided to rework her teaching style so Akane’s performances would be passable while also integrating her own skills.
She ended up winning multiple competitions and performances and used the prize money to move her family into a bigger and better house.
Although her reputation as an “easy waitress” would often rear its ugly head and would make Akane become agitated.
Her dancing moves incorporate alot of her old fighting techniques.
She wears a cherry red kimono with a yellow dragon etched on the side as a design.
At the end of each performance, she can be found at the snacks table eating just about everything.
Nagito Komaeda as the SHSL Nurse
Nagito lost his family when he was just a child.
Having pity on the boy, along with finding traces of frontotemporal dementia, the head doctor of the hospital he resided in decided to adopt the boy as his own.
Nagito became the doctor’s apprentice and learned of the different techniques that came with working in the medical field.
The doctor taught him which drugs/medicines were used for what along with how to use the surgical tools properly.
He personally saw different medical cases each more mesmerizing than the last.
He became fixated on the concept of death and how it was an integral part of life.
When he became old enough, he started to work as a nurse and partake in the same surgeries he saw as a child.
While he certainly participated in a number of cases that saved the lives of his patients, he also had a number of cases that resulted in death.
He personally requested to handle the patients that were unable to be saved so he can spend their final moments with them and capture the memory of their deaths.
There’s been word from the medical staff that he tries to comfort the dying patient and their family with speeches on how they shouldn’t be afraid of death and how the patient will move on to greater things in the next life and how the families will become stronger afterwards.
This has earned him the nickname “Angel of Death”.
He wears mint green scrubs and carries a portable bag withhis own medical equipment.
Teruteru Hanamura as the SHSL Coach
Despite his physique, Teruteru has amazing stamina and is capable of lifting heavy objects that ordinary people would have trouble lifting on their own.
Teruteru can analyze a person’s physical stature and determine which exercise or physical activity best suits them.
He always offers massage therapy proclaiming that it’s the best way to strengthen the body and relax the mind.
There are multiple cases where the players he’s worked with have accused him of sexual harassment or groping their bodies.
He has a complicated relationship with his family.
The younger siblings antagonize him for pursuing a career that isn’t related to their family’s restaurant business while putting more hardships on their mother.
His mom on the other hand, is more accepting of his career and asks that he focus more on what he enjoys doing in life.
Teruteru’s massages originally stemmed from how he would give massages to his mama to help alleviate her of her body aches.
He wears a dark red track suit and gold chain. Mixed with his combed over hair, it makes him look like a sleazy gangster.
Chiaki Nanami as the SHSL Animal Breeder
As the daughter of a rich family that hardly had time for her, Chiaki’s parents bought her a variety of animals to keep her company.
She found comfort with them but was heartbroken when she noticed that they became saddened and died.
She became motivated to learn from them so they could stay alive for long as possible.
Chiaki began studying different types of animals and what behaviors are ideal and which are concerning.
After school, she would venture to local animal shelters and veterinarians and offer to volunteer so she can work with different animals and examine first hand their behaviors.
She earned recognition by forming connections with the animals in her care and teaching them commands.
While she prefers the company of animals to humans, she will make an effort to help her human clients have a better relationship with their pets.
She can often be found napping alongside any of her animal friends.
Sagishi as the SHSL Lucky Student
Saigishi grew up in an orphanage having been abandoned by their family before they can remember.
They noticed that they had an unusual luck themed streak when it came to playing with the other kids.
If they were playing soccer, they would accidentally kick the ball into the window which surprisingly knocked out a janitor that was about to assault one of the orphanage workers.
If they tried to pass a love letter to another child they had a crush on, a burst of wind would fly the letter straight into the child’s face and they’d end up having a terrible accident.
If they were preparing food for an upcoming dinner, they would end up pouring too much vinegar into the meal which would spoil the dinner resulting in the staff having to order pizza for the kids.
Saigishi developed a reputation as a kid with creepy powers which both amazed and terrified their fellow orphans.
The kid realized that their luck would only benefit the people around them but would make bad things happen if they tried to use it for themselves.
At the urging of their friends, they ended up participating in the Hope’s Peak Lottery and wound up with the chance to join them as the next SHSL Lucky Student.
Sagishi was worried since something bad would eventually happen if it was the work of their luck, but they decided to take the offer knowing that they needed to make a future for themselves.
They wear a white collared shirt with old jeans.
They still have a mullet which has a small ahoge on the top of their head.
Mikan Tsumiki as the SHSL Gamer
She still had a horrible childhood growing up where her family and classmates would bully and abuse her for a variety of reasons.
Not wanting to put up with their abuse anymore, Mikan decided to drop out of middle school and become a hikikomori.
Using her worn out computer, Mikan found comfort in playing online video games.
She personally enjoys fighting games as she imagines her enemies as her abusers and would deliver swift justice on them by beating them up.
Mikan has a preference for playing as male characters since the female characters wearing skimpy/stripper-esque outfits bring back painful memories for her.
After sufficient online practice, Mikan gained enough confidence to try tournaments in the real world.
But she kept this secret from her family in fear that they would use this to torment her.
When it comes to tournaments, she unleashes her pent up anger and frustrations for her past tormentors by cursing at her opponents as she beats them.
While her fandom is impressed with her gaming skills, they do question why they would call her opponents by a different name and accuses them of doing something awful to her.
When she wants to calm down after a heavy day, she likes to play relaxing games with cute animals.
Nekomaru Nidai as the SHSL Prince
During his childhood years, Nekomaru stayed in his room because of his heart condition.
He received private tutoring based on the history of his kingdom along with different world cultures.
His father and mother spared no expense in providing the best doctors and medical professionals who could ensure that their son would be physically fit.
When he started making appearances outside of the palace, there were rumors that the frail prince was placed in a secret government program that was designed to create super soldiers.
He’s often recognized for working first as a soldier under his father’s militia before becoming of it’s main generals.
Nekomaru is well versed when it comes to proper etiquette and engaging in the company of royals or high class aristocrats.
He has a personal club made of suitors who have fallen for his image as a charming (and handsome) prince.
He also devotes alot of time to interacting with the middle class of his kingdom as he believes having a bond with his people is important for a royal to have.
The main uniform he wears is a blue military outfit with a silver sash and a black beret with a family jewel in the front.
Gundam Tanaka as the SHSL Yakuza
He inherited the throne of the Tanaka Empire at an early age due to the death of his father.
He wasn’t able to remember his father but the stories passed by his underlings and advisors describe him as a devil who was incredibly powerful but dangerous when provoked.
His mother on the other hand, remembers him as a loving man who was very attentive toward her needs.
Gundam would unintentionally embrace his father’s memory thanks to his “overlord” personality which would make him come off as overly dramatic and sinister to his enemies.
His reign as a yazuka lord involved more emphasis on spiritual affairs by bringing spiritual communities under his Empire.
He personally believes that maintaining ties with the spirits and Gods will grant the Tanaka Empire a stronger chance of survival.
While maintaining relationships with minor businesses under his control, he would also invite potential gang groups for tea ceremonies and offer them the chance to join him.
He’s been trained by his advisors in using a katana and gun making him skilled enough to handle even the most dangerous of gang members.
While he’s capable of defeating them, he vows never to take the blood of anyone weaker than him or unless he’s given no other choice.
Before entering high school, Gundam was able to have his upper and lower body tattooed with images of oni demons and spirits.
He found the Four Dark Devas when he passed by a street and saw the four hamsters foraging for food in a dumpster.
He also expresses admiration for Sonia’s impressive swordfighting skills and has offered her an opportunity to work for his Empire if she wishes.
Kazuichi Souda as the SHSL Gymnast
Kazuichi got into gymnastics by reading alot of shonen manga.
He was impressed by how athletic and fit the heroes were so he wanted to train and be like them.
When not helping in his dad’s shop, he would try practicing parkour near the streets of his town to help him develop better flexibility.
While practicing at middle school, his teachers noticed his potential and offered him a spot in a gymnastics program.
His dad didn’t like him getting into “girly shit” like gymnastics and frequently insulted him for it.
He would often perform for his friends which impressed them at first. But then things got troublesome when they requested him to do flips and jumps for their amusement.
It got worse when they tricked him into breaking into a second story classroom so he could steal the answers for an upcoming test.
Not wanting to be taken advantage of again, Kazuichi gave himself a radical makeover so no one would mess with him.
Along with his pink hair, his outfit consists of a black tanktop with neon green stripes and yellow shorts.
Hajime Hinata as the SHSL Mechanic
His parents rented his own shop for him to work at but they personally didn’t invest their own time to work with him.
To avoid having to think about his loneliness, Hajime placed all of his effort and thinking into his work.
He began receiving requests to repair average household appliances before moving on to bigger machines.
He’s received alot of praise for improving the appliances while also explaining to the owners on how they should best maintain their appliances so they can last longer
The machines that he worked best with were vehicles and motorcycles.
Despite being underage, Hajime managed to practice driving on his own and learned how to drive the basic motor vehicles.
While he’s grateful for his mechanic talent, he often worries if he’s really living his life to the fullest and if there’s something missing that he needs to achieve.
His favorite invention is a hoverboard that he uses to ride around his hometown to clear his mind after a hard day’s work.
His mechanic uniform is a mechanic uniform with a design similar to that of a racecar driver.
Mahiru Koizumi as a Reserve Course Student
While Mahiru was interested in the idea of going into Hope’s Peak, she wasn’t confident enough in her photography skills to go through with the entrance exam.
At the insistence of her best friend Sato, Mahiru ended up in the Reserve Course so they can fight for the chance to be special.
While she didn’t mind the work provided by her classes, Mahiru took notice of how her peers had a hard time with paying for their tuition along with even getting into the Talent program.
She also had to deal with Sato having to fight against her old rival Natsumi who was picking fights with her while trying to get recognized herself.
She became an unofficial peace keeper of her class as she would chastise her classmates for picking fights against each other or making rude remarks.
As time went on, Mahiru herself was unable to keep up with her classes since the money to pay for them was running low.
She would later receive an e-mail from the Steering Committee offering her a chance of entering the Talent program through an unconventional method that was funded by the school.
She had to cast that thought aside when Natsumi ended up dead and Sato is all but stated to have killed her out of frustration.
Soon vengeance would claim Sato’s life with Mahiru finding her in an empty classroom and on the brink of death with her head bleading.
Before dying, Sato begs her friend to make something special with her life and not to waste it in the Reserve Course. She knows that Mahiru will do great things in her life and that she believes in her.
Casting her doubts aside and refusing to let her friend’s death be in vain, she accepted the Steering Committee’s offer by participating in the Hope Cultivation Project.

Lonesome Town
Frank folded the oversized jacket that was definitely not his over his arm. It was 3am, the year was 1972. He traced over his engagement ring sullenly as he leaned against the overpass that used to be the place he spent most of his teenage nights. Times were simpler back then, when a boy could be out all night with his best friend, no eyebrows raised. He missed the blissful, warm summer nights, untouched by the cruel world that enveloped him now. Sonia, his fiance, she wasn’t so bad, but the brunette knew he didn’t love her. He fished the folded paper from the jacket pocket and unfurled it delicately.
Frankie, you don’t have to do this. - Went
But Wentworth was wrong. Frankie wanted more than anything for him to be right, for once, but he was wrong. He wanted nothing more than to be in Went’s arms, but he couldn’t be. Kaspbrak knew that he had to understand, and the idea that he could still be disillusioned was unbearable. Surely not, as hard as he tried to hide it, Wentworth was more intelligent than that. Frank knew it was all the denial talking.
He pushed through his wavy brunette locks with a heavy sigh, heart aching like it always did when he thought about the marriage. He could only hope work could keep him busy and away from home. Sonia was an okay gal, but she was loud, and rather possessive. He just wasn’t as invested in the union as she was; Sonia wanted him in a way he could never give to her. He did not love her. He never would. His mind returned to Wentworth, the nights they spent in his car out on the overpass, “Kissing Point” as it used to be called by his tight-knit little group of four, composed of himself, Wentworth, Maggie, and Andrea, who preferred Annie. The latter two were also dating, though recently had to go through a similar event, as Annie had to marry local douche bag, Donald Uris. The only benefit was that he left Derry frequently while training to be a Rabbi; though Frankie didn’t know how long that process was, it at least gave Maggie and Annie some parting moments of privacy.
Frank heard the distant tires on pavement veer closer then all the previous passing cars, headlights hit his car, illuminating the area. Stiff as a board now, he folded away the note and took a couple cautious steps towards his car, rubbing away at the tears that had begun to form in his eyes, he then shifted to shield his eyes from the blinding light. The car pulled in next to him, he could hear music blaring from the inside, which progressively got louder as the driver-side window rolled down.
Andrea. He exhaled sharply and pursed his lips into a straight line, gesturing broadly at her, “You scared the shit out of me, I thought I was going to get killed like-- secluded, unsolved murder style.” Annie chuckled to herself, combing back her short hair with a grin. “I figured this is where you ran off to, Maggie called after you because she heard you and Sonia got into a tiff at the store today?” Her tone turned to that of sympathy, which made Frank shift uncomfortably on his lonesome in the cold. The argument at the store was minor, but it did attract quite the audience. Sonia was a rather robust, loud woman, and she certainly enjoyed eyes being on her whenever possible. The brunette couldn’t even remember what the argument was about, frankly, he just remembered the yelling and stares, “Nosey, as always,” he retorted, crossing his arms and rubbing them for warmth.
Annie rolled her eyes and turned down her music so it was barely above a whisper, patting her passenger side seat, “Come sit.” Frank hesitantly obliged, crawling into her car and holding the jacket to his chest. She looked over with a side eye, fidgeting with the wheel, “Went’s Letterman? I didn’t know that you still had that.” The uptight brunette grinned awkwardly down at his most prized keepsake of his childhood, which he kept neatly folded in an old, locked suitcase that used to be his father’s. “I never lost sight of it,” he murmured, rubbing his thumb over the worn leather sleeves. His strawberry blonde friend chuckled “Right, cause you’re a fruit.” He twitched irritably, knowing she was only trying to lighten the mood, but he was generally easy to piss off, “Don’t.”
Annie raised her brow and held up a hand in mock-defense, “Okay, okay.” The silence crept into the humming car, music  played quietly as they both sat there, inept of communicating emotion unlike their counterparts. Frank could appreciate the little things, like the fact Annie was clearly playing the mixtape he had made her. Currently, the track was on See My Friends by the Kinks. The ambience began to drown in the awkward, sullen atmosphere.
“How did you do it?”
“I just did, I had to.”
“Did you cry?”
“Of course I did, Frankie.”
“Do you like him?”
There was a pause. The strawberry blonde shifted uncomfortably, “No, do you like Sonia?” The short man bit the inside of his cheek, picking at the fuzzy felt texture of the jacket, “Not like I do Went. But I think she’s okay. She’s pretty easy to handle.” “Easy to handle?” Annie echoed, her tone incredulous, “Frankie, you can say she’s awful.” The brunette’s eyes went wide as he threw up his hands in an anxious fit of a gesture, “She’s not! She’s not awful, Ann!” “You aren’t even married yet and she acts like Don does with me. You’re an adult, Frankie. You should make your own decisions without being scared she’s gonna be pissed off.” “She’s nearly my wife.” “And?” Frustration that was built up was starting to show in his body language, his knuckles white-clenching onto the jacket, he huffed. His friend’s tone softened as she rested a hand on his shoulder, “You might have to marry her but you don’t have to lie to me or yourself, Frank. Her being exactly like your mother isn’t a good thing. She isn’t your mom, she’s your fiance, she should act like—” “Woah, hey. When the fuck did my mom get pulled into this? Sonia is not acting like my mom.” Annie shot him a red-hot glare, knowing, searing. Frank responded with more reproach, “She’s just excited, so she’s a bit clingy.” “Okay, Frank,” Annie retorted bitterly, “I’m not having this debate with you. Maggie said you were difficult, but you know that is bullshit.” He opened his mouth to respond and quickly closed it, gently biting down on his own tongue. He hoped she would just veer away from the topic. He knew Sonia was like his mother, in certain respects at least, however, telling himself that really made it difficult to remain optimistic about his marriage. The silence returned and his paranoia built up all at once, filling his throat with so many questions while filling his eyes with buckets worth of tears. He sat in complete quiet, shifting uncomfortably.
Annie eventually looked over and went stiff, inhaling, “Shit, hey, Frank I didn’t mean to—” “No, no it’s not- Not you, Annie, I’m just scared. I really don’t want to do this.” Her expression softened further and she unbuckled, leaning over to bring him into a quick embrace, “Well, we can deal with this shit together okay?” The moment she touched him, his ears started ringing and he sobbed, hard, he could only manage a nod. The song turned over, one of Frank’s favorites.
There’s a place where lovers go
To cry their troubles away
And they call it ‘Lonesome Town’
Where broken hearts can stay.
You can buy a dream or two
To last you through the years
And the only price you pay
Is a heart full of tears.

Untouchable Ch 13- Home, Again
Warnings: swearing, mentions of torture and injuries, family drama and stuff? (if there’s something in this chapter that you want me to tag, let me know, I’m just not sure what to classify some of this stuff as)
Ch 12 | Ch 14
~ ~ ~
Tumblr media
Beck threw herself into her sister’s arms as Lydia entered the waiting room.
“Thank god. Lydia, I’m so sorry, but I’m so scared. Watching her fall apart like that, then start seizing- What would we do if we lost her? What would I do? The system will take in Katie and Adam, but I… I’d be alone.”
Lydia pulled away to look into her sister’s cloudy eyes. “You will never be alone. If something actually happened to Sonia, you could come to DC with me in a heartbeat. Please don’t ever think I’d leave you alone.”
“You hate me,” Beck claimed. Her face was a blotchy mess and she didn’t make it any better be rubbing her hands over it frustratedly. She’d recently cut her hair short, which was perhaps the only thing stopping her from ripping it out. “I’ve been such an ass. I wouldn’t blame you if you left me here and went back to Virginia. I don’t have a job, I don’t have a college degree, I don’t even know how to drive a car! I’m useless!”
“You aren’t useless,” Lydia insisted, then leaned forward and kissed her forehead. “You’re stubborn. You were angry. But you know who knows even more about anger than you?”
She rolled her eyes. “I’m guessing you, you menace?”
They both giggled, Rebecca hiccuping slightly through more tears.
“So, you won’t leave me to be a homeless prostitute?”
“Not this month,” Lydia joked. “What have you heard? Did they dissolve the blood clot?”
Beck nodded. “It’s gone. Now the only concern is figuring out how much damage it did.”
“Okay. Well then, one of us should stay here and wait for news and the other has to take Katie and Adam home and get them to bed. I really think you could use the rest, but I’m okay with either.”
The two twins were seated in the corner of the room. Katie was asleep across the armrest between her and her brother’s chair. Adam looked bored out of his mind, picking at his fingernails.
Beck looked back at them, then bit down on her bottom lip. “I need to make sure she’s okay. I don’t think I could fall asleep if I went home anyway.”
Lydia could understand that. She gave her sister a nod, before stepping around her and approaching the kids. “Hey Adam. Long time, no see!”
He pushed himself out of his chair quickly and wrapped his arms around Lydia’s waist. “Hi Lydie! Why didn’t you come home for Christmas this year?”
“I had to work,” she admitted, feigning disgust.
“You have to see the Legos that Becky got me! I already built them all!”
“That’s so cool! You’ll have to show me once we get home.”
He bounced excitedly, turning around to wake up his sister. “Katie! Lydie’s here!”
The girl blinked, rubbing her face where it was previously squished against her arm. “Adam,” she grumbled. “What do you want?”
Lydia knelt down next to her seat. “Hey Katie,” she said, softly. “I’m here to take you two hooligans home.”
Katie blinked, recognizing Lydia’s voice and her silly nickname for the twins. “Lydie? Mommy didn’t say you were coming home.”
Lydia didn’t want to freak them out by making them think the stroke was a big deal, so she held up a finger to her lips and said, “Sonia doesn’t know yet. It’s a surprise.”
“Is mommy sick?” Adam asked. “Becky said she was hurt, but when I hurt my arm, I didn’t have to stay at the doctor’s this long.”
“Mommy did get hurt,” Lydia admitted. “But she’s super strong. Right now, you two have to get some sleep. In your own beds. Okay?”
They nodded and followed her out, saying their goodbyes to Rebecca as they passed. Lydia called a cab to meet them outside and take them back to Sonia’s house.
As they were packing in, her phone rang. Spencer. Shit…
“Spence, hey…” she began, but couldn’t for the life of her come up with anything else to say.
“Lydia? Hotch told us that you had a family emergency, what happened?? Are you okay? Did you get home?”
She sighed, relieved he wasn’t angry about her sudden disappearance. They’d just been talking face to face and then she was on her way to the airport. “Can we start with one questions at a time? I’m so tired.”
“Yeah, yeah,” he agreed, quickly. “Where are you right now?”
“I’m leaving a hospital in Oakland, California, on my way to my foster mom, Sonia’s, house.”
“Why were you at the hospital?”
“Sonia had a stroke.”
“That’s awful. I’m sorry. What kind of stroke?”
“Uh… I’m not sure? I didn’t speak to any of the doctors directly.”
“Do you know if she had a hemorrhage or-?”
“No. No, it was a blot clot.”
“That’s good!” he said immediately. “The chances of surviving a ischemic stroke are higher than a hemorrhagic stroke. There’s also a higher likelihood of a full recovery.”
She smiled. “Thanks, Spence. How did the case go?”
“We found and recovered all the kids, but Jane and Frank disappeared.”
“Oh no…” she fretted. “I’m so sorry.”
“What are you talking about? You weren’t even in Nevada when it happened.”
“But I was… I told him we could negotiate for Jane and-”
“You saw her,” Spencer reasoned. “She was throwing herself at him. Frank would have gotten away either way and Jane would have followed him. You helped us get those kids back.”
“When did you become so good at cheering me up?” she teased. He didn’t reply, so she kept going. “Spencer, I should go. I’m almost at Sonia's house. Talk to you tomorrow, okay?”
“Yeah, of course. Tomorrow.”
~ ~ ~
“Lydia? What are you doing here?” Sonia demanded as Lydia walked into her room the next morning.
“What are you doing in a hospital bed?” she fired back. “You went and scared the hell out of us!”
“Honey, I’m old. It happens.”
Lydia rolled her eyes. “Not old enough. You’re like… one of the least likely people to get a stroke. You’re 50, you’re a woman, you’re Asain… do you have any blood pressure problems I don’t know about?”
“Apparently I have blood pressure problems that I don’t even know about,” she chuckled, trying not to focus on how bad that could be. “Since when do you know so much about stroke statistics?”
Lydia was perfectly ready to tell her that she’d done a bunch of research at the airport, but it was a lie. Spencer had been sending her little tidbits of information all day. Some to try to cheer her up, others to help prepare her for how Sonia’s recovery might go. As she thought about those texts, a smile pulled at her lips and Sonia was on her in an instant.
“What’s that? That smile. You just got all blushy on me, what happened?”
“I work with profilers and somehow you’re already onto my little secret, hm?” She rubbed her forehead. “You should probably go work for my team if you’re going to be so observational.”
“You should probably stop being so obvious,” she argued. “You’ve got a crush written all over you. Did he tell you about the stroke statistics?”
“His name is Spencer, he texted them to me to make me feel better, and I’m not crushing on him.”
“Oh please!” she cried. “Your cheeks are bright red! I know a crush when I see one. Tell me about this Spencer. Where did you meet him?”
“We work together. And I’m not lying, I’m not crushing on Spencer… because we’ve been dating for almost a year now.”
“You what?!” she exclaimed. “Lydia, you have to tell me these things! Almost a year?”
“Yeah. It started last year in April.”
“Why would you hide this from me? Look at you! You’re so happy!”
Lydia bit her tongue in contemplation. Why hadn’t she told her family? “Because I’ve been keeping it a secret anyway. None of the team knows we’re together. We never agreed that we wouldn’t tell our families, but… I don’t know, I guess I got so caught up in the lie that I didn’t even think about telling you guys.”
“Why are you hiding?” Sonia asked.
“Our work.” Lydia shrugged. “When we went on our first date, we didn’t want the whole team to be invested in a relationship that might not last. We didn’t want things to get weird. But now, it feels wrong, you know? Our boss wouldn’t be happy if he found out that we’ve been lying to him all this time. Spencer’s an agent, so in-office relationships are frowned upon for him.”
Lydia’s phone buzzed in her hand and instinctively, she looked down at it.
“Did he just text you?” Sonia teased.
Lydia glared back. “Fucking profilers.”
~ ~ ~
“Katie! Adam!” Lydia called as she shuffled upstairs.
“Hold on!” Katie’s muffled squealing came from the twin’s room.
Lydia smiled at what she could only imagine to be wild shenanigans going on behind that door. But, she turned and walked farther down the hall, opening up the door to Sonia’s room.
She’d been let go from the hospital after about a week, and had been recovering quickly. Lydia was glad to see her sitting up in bed stretching her arms out in front of her. Her left arm was weak and shook dramatically, but it was an improvement.
“Good morning, Sonia,” she greeted, walking over to the side of her bed. “Make sure to do your leg stretches as well today. I know they’re uncomfortable, but if you don’t build up that strength again, you’re going to end up with only one working leg. I want you to think about how frustrating that would be.”
She dropped her head back. “You’re right. That would be awful. Then I’d look like you.”
“Very funny,” Lydia deadpanned. “But my leg works fine, thank you. At this point, I’d say better than yours. But nevermind that, I won’t be here and neither will the car. If something happens, Beck will handle it and I’ll be back before your physical therapy appointment, okay?”
Lydia leaned down and gave her foster mother a kiss on the cheek.
“I’m ready, Lydie!” Adam shouted as he burst into the room. His backpack hung loosely from his shoulders, seeing as there probably wasn’t more in it than a folder.
“Is Katie ready?” she asked.
“No. Katie’s tying her shoes.”
“Oh, well then she’s almost ready. Let’s start heading down, shall we?”
He nodded, eagerly. “Bye, Mommy!” he said, before scurrying downstairs.
“Bye, Sonia,” Lydia followed suit, closing the door behind her as she left. “Beck?”
Her sister popped her head out of the bathroom, only half her makeup done, looking thoroughly unamused. “Must you be so loud?”
“Make sure Sonia gets up soon,” she ordered. “I won’t have my phone with me, so if something happens, call the doctor.”
“Won’t have your phone…?” She raised an eyebrow. “Are you not coming back after dropping the twin’s off?”
“No. I thought Sonia told you.”
“Told me what?”
“I’m ready!” Katie cried, rushing down the stairs to meet her brother.
“Head out to the car, little hooligans!” Lydia instructed. “I’ll be out in a second.”
“Where are you going?” Beck tried again.
Lydia sighed. “I’m visiting Dad today.”
~ ~ ~
Not that visiting a prison was ever a pleasant experience, but Lydia was comforted to find the place exactly the same. She had enough anxiety going in as is, but trying to navigate new rules or requirements would have made it ten times worse. Her dad didn’t even seem to notice her walk into the room, sitting alone at a table, staring intently at a wall.
Lydia cleared her throat. “Um, hey Dad.”
He blinked at her for a moment, before pulling her into a hug. “Lydia! Look at you! You’ve changed so much, sweetheart!”
She shrunk away from him, slightly as he spoke, both because the guards would yell at them if they were in contact for too long and because it had been so long. It was just weird.
“Yeah,” she sighed. “It’s been a crazy two years.”
“I hear,” he said, the two of them sitting across from one another. “Rebecca tells me that you work for the FBI full-time now.”
“Not exactly. I’m contracted out by one of their teams. Sometimes I’m home for a few weeks, other times we solve one case and fly straight to the next. It isn’t exactly 9 to 5.”
“I’m really proud of you.” He smiled and Lydia’s lip twitched as well. “I was shocked to hear you were coming. Rebecca says you very rarely visit.”
“I’m not in California for a visit,” she admitted. “Sonia had a stroke, so I’ve taken some time off work to look out for her and the other kids in her care.”
Her dad had warmed up to Sonia over the years, seeing as she had to escort Lydia and Beck to the prison when they were still minors. He looked genuinely sad to hear the news. “That’s terrible. Tell her I hope she gets well soon.”
“I will. It was pretty mild it seems. She’s regaining strength quickly.”
They didn’t have the time for this small talk. Her father knew that. But Lydia almost hoped that they could keep the conversation going. As if he wasn’t an inmate in a prison. As if they weren’t being watched carefully. As if she didn’t have mixed feelings about speaking to him.
“So, Lydia, why did you come?”
Lydia blinked, pushing up her glasses habitually. “What do you mean? I haven’t seen you for two years…”
“I know,” he chuckled. “But if you wanted to come say hi to me, you’d do it when you were visiting home. Not when you’re busy taking care of a whole family.”
“Well… your sentence is almost done. Seven years… And I was talking to Sonia about it and she asked when the last time I saw you was… I felt bad.” She waited for him to say something, but he didn’t. Because he knew that wasn’t it. “I haven’t really… told anyone in DC that my dad’s in prison. And with this new job, I talk to serial killers. I learn a lot about them, get into their heads. And in the end, we always put them away. And now I see prison in this whole different light and I think I needed to prove to myself that you… you aren’t one of the bad guys.”
“Okay, so… how do I prove I’m not a bad guy?” he asked.
“You don’t. You just-” Lydia’s eyes started to burn and she stopped herself from getting emotional. “I wanted to see you. That’s all. Recently, it feels like I can’t remember much about anyone in the family.”
“Is this about your mom?”
“I don’t know what this is about,” she rambled. “I just… I was finally starting to be okay in college and then, the whole Jenna thing happened and I was an angry monster again. And when I realized I had settled down, I was a different person. I worked for the FBI for crying out loud! And I’m looking at the people around me, and they look different, too, but I can’t figure out if it’s them who’ve changed or just my view of them. And I’ve always-”
She was tearing up again. Lydia gritted her teeth, feeling frustrated. She came here to check up on him, not have a meltdown. But if she shut down, he would keep bugging her about it, so might as well keep going.
“I’ve always been so mad at you,” she said, gnashing her teeth like an animal. “And then I’m looking through a serial killer's house and all I can think is, ‘At least my dad didn’t become this’. And I feel guilty that I’ve been so hard on you for seven years. So, I came here because I needed to prove to myself that this face belongs to my dad and not a bad guy.”
“Could it be both?”
Lydia glared at him, but didn’t have anything to say. She didn’t need the ambiguous question right now.
“Lydia, I know what I did was stupid and it hurt people. And all the excuses I made for it at the time don’t justify my actions. I wasn’t wrongfully accused and I’m not trying to pretend I was.”
“I don’t want to have an argument with you,” she grumbled. “I want to look at you with my new profiling eyes and determine whether it’s worth rebuilding a relationship with you when you get out.”
That shut him up. Lydia’s face burned in shame, but there was no taking it back. They sat there in silence for what felt like years. She didn’t know what there was to say. It had been on her mind for months now that his release was approaching. She’d considered Beck to be her only family for almost 7 years. Her father was a distant memory. But maybe when his time was up… maybe it’d be nice to have a dad again. But she had sworn at 16 never to forgive him.
“Did you decide?” he asked, his voice grim.
Why did she have to decide? Why couldn’t someone tell her that she was going to have to learn to live with or without him and be done with it? Why did it have to be her to walk away or make the effort. Shouldn’t family come naturally?
But for now, at least, she knew what she wanted.
“I want my family back. I don’t want to leave California one day and never have a reason to come back… I want to know my mom… And maybe, just maybe, I want to remember my dad, too. Because somewhere in the far recesses of my mind, he was a cool dude.”
“I’m sorry that I ever left you,” he said.
Finally, Lydia felt a sense of relief. She stood up. “I need to go, Dad. Luckily, the next time I see you, you probably won’t be behind bars.” And then, she opened up her arms, welcoming him in for a hug.
For the past seven years, she’d never been the one to initiate a hug with her father, but it felt like it was time. Her stubbornness had kept her from too much. She’d missed out on so many opportunities to be happy all because she was hinged on being in complete control of the image of herself that other’s saw. And she hadn’t felt like she’d had a parental figure in a long time.
He accepted quickly. “Go be an amazing bad-guy-catcher,” he teased.
“I will,” she replied with a smile. “Keep being a neutral guy, alright?”
As she headed for the door, he said, “Lydia? One more thing…”
She raised an eyebrow in his direction.
“Happy birthday.”
He remembered. She didn’t expect him to, for some reason. She didn’t really expect him to know the exact date.
“I love you,” she told him, but didn’t wait around to hear his response. She didn’t plan on spilling any tears today.

“You’re hunched over your computer like Quasimodo,” Rebecca joked as she dropped a bowl of ice cream next to her sister.
Poor Lydia was so wrapped up in her paper, she didn’t even notice the gift, ignoring the dessert completely. “I need Spencer,” she admitted. “He’d be able to give me more accurate information than these pathetic websites.”
“Why don’t you call him?” Sonia offered from across the table.
“He told me this morning that he was leaving for a case. Really bad one, too. He doesn’t need the distraction.”
Beck rolled her eyes. “I can’t believe you’re actually going to get a PhD for this guy.”
“I’m not getting this for Spencer,” she tried to argue. “But I mean, look at me! I’m set to graduate in the spring. Have you ever seen someone get a doctorate in 2 years? Spencer did that for me. I could become a college professor in about a year, all thanks to him. At 23 years old.”
“Don’t act like you’re not a genius all by yourself,” Beck grumbled. “Just because he’s super charismatic-” Lydia laughed out loud when she said that “-does not mean that he got you your PhD.”
“I’m not saying that!” she tried to argue. “Think about how much money I’ve saved! I mean, I was terrified when I took that internship at the BAU that once it was up, I’d be stuck. With this, I have so many options open that I-”
She paused, noticing her phone screen light up with Hotch’s name. Rebecca and Sonia gave her funny looks, but she held up a finger.
“My boss is calling me. Strange.”
“If he says you have to go back to Virginia, do it. You’ve taken enough to time off as it is,” Sonia instructed, but Lydia just rolled her eyes.
“Hey, Hotch,” she answered. “What’s up?”
“Lydia, I’m going to need your help with something…”
“That’s fine. Is it case related?”
“No it’s…” He sounded exhausted and Lydia wondered where he could be. It was 9 in California, so unless he was on the west coast, it was late. “Lydia, Reid has been taken captive by an unsub.”
Her heart stopped. Seeing her family's confused faces across from her, she jumped up from the table and rushed out of the room.
“What? I- What are you… How bad of an unsub?” she sputtered.
“He’s sending us a live feed of it. As of right now, Reid’s forehead has a large gash in it and one of his feet is mangled. We’re doing everything we can to find him.”
“Is there something I can do?” Her breathing was labored and her chest, constricting. This was all wrong. Spencer had to be okay. He needed to be…
“Lydia, Spencer’s strong. He’ll keep fighting until we can get to him. But I have a feeling when he gets out, he’s going to want to see your face.”
She was far too stressed to even consider what he was implying. “You want me to- I’m not sure if I can-”
“Two days. That’s all. I’ll get you a ticket to Georgia as soon as possible. He’ll need your support. Can you be here?”
Leaving suddenly, once again. But Spencer might need her. Hotch was certain he would. And after news like that… she’d need to see him for herself to even imagine that he was going to be okay.
“I’ll pack my things now. Send me that plane ticket and the case file. I need to know what to expect when I get there.”
“I’ll let you know if anything changes,” he assured her. “Thank you.”
She heard him hang up the phone, but didn’t move it away from her ear. All she could hear was her heartbeat in her ears, as if it was trying to break out. She blinked a couple of times and turned to see that her sister had followed her into the next room, eyes wide.
A tear slipped down her cheek, which she quickly wiped away. “I need to go,” she told Beck and ran to her room to gather some things.
