Elemental Legacy Challenge for TS3

Hi all, this is my first Sims 3 legacy challenge I've made myself, it is a result of my boredom on a Saturday evening but it was a lot of fun, so I'll throw this at you ☺

This elemental legacy challenge is for The Sims 3 and spans 9 Generations. It is inspired by the Chinese Zodaic Elements and also inspiration from my favourite JRPG's which utlise a lot of elemental themed magic. It has guided ideas and generational requirements with story themes throughout. Feel free to tag me if you have a go at this ✨

Rules:

I have listed the intended requirements for each generation, move on to the next generation once the requirements are complete or the next heir becomes a young adult

I have listed some guidance on careers, lifetime wishes and traits. I recommend taking 2-3 of the traits listed but they aren't mandatory

You can use money cheats if you wish, I've tried to write the generational order to put you in the desired financial spot for storytelling, but please just have fun with it

Please do alter and play this how you wish & how your stories pan out, the guidance is just there for ideas and isn't meant to limit you

Generation 1 - Earth

Child of earth, you are grounded and resillient. Your goal is to provide your family with solid foundations for the generations to come. You are selfless, stubborn and driven. You know what you want and will work your upmost to achieve it. Your ambitious and frugal nature can get on other's nerves and prompts the question: with so much planning for the future, are you really taking time to enjoy your own life?

Child of water, thanks to your parents hardwork, you had a carefree childhood and now plenty of savings behind you. Your time for settling down will come evetually. Whatever will be will be.

Your self-awareness around your temper certainly helps your popularity as you channel your temper into your physical fitness. You certainly aren't burning out anytime soon!

Child of grass, you just can't get enough of babies, especially your own! Your family and their wellbeing are your whole world. You live to nourish, protect and teach your loved ones. However, you have been told on one or more occasions that you can be overbearing...a helicopter parent perhaps? Don't they know you only want what is best for them?

Traits: Nurturing, Perfectionist, Loves the Outdoors, Family Orientated, Green Thumb,

Job: Daycare

Requirements:

Have a garden and live off the land, using your grown produce for meals

They were all so extroverted and loud whilst you much preferred your quiet isolation. Perhaps that's why you prefer animals over people. You have a lot of love to give, I can only hope you will find someone to share that with (who is not one of your many pets).

Hi, so, it has been two months since and I haven't said much else but thank you and rip on here, but I actually have many thoughts I that can't put into words quite well but I will try because I feel like just a thank you is not enough for me, and this is the place where I feel like I won't be judged for grieving someone I did not know personally.

I'll put it under the cut because I am still very hurt and tw death and whatever and it's kinda long so yea :'D

Also sorry for any typos because English is not my native language and I am emotional.

...And sorry if this is weirdly personal somehow.

I'm not really sure how to start, but I've been a fan of Buck Tick for about 15 years, I started listening to them when I was about 18 and I'm 33 now, so it has been my whole adult life.

Initially I got into them because the music was catchy and I liked the vocals. As I started watching their PV's, Atsushi started drawing my attention and I became a fan of him. How could I not anyways, he had a beautiful voice and he was also the most handsome man I have ever seen.

When I started reading his lyrics and interviews however, I felt like I could relate to him. My struggles do not compare to his, but I can relate to not feeling comfortable in your childhood home and hiding in your room to avoid conflict. What also surprised me that he seemed shy and very introverted in interviews, I am very socially awkward and introverted myself, so it was in a way nice to see that he was like this and did not try to change himself.

Buck Tick and Atsushi became a presence in my life since then. Their songs and Atsushi's lyrics gave me support when I needed it and felt like there was no one else. Not to sound dramatic, but I feel like Atsushi showed me that even if there is pain, you can still make something of your life, and that it is fine to be different. He seemed so resillient to me, which in turn inspired me to do the same.

Honestly when I read the news of his death it broke me, and I still feel so hurt about it. Going to a BT live and hearing him sing irl was one of my biggest dreams, and I was sure that I would make it in the near future, but unfortunately I was too late and I feel so much regret.

So to Atsushi I would like to say thank you. I don't know in what way I would be on this earth if I would not have discovered you, but it would not have been great probably. You do not know it but you mean a lot to me and you have all my respect. Unfortunately you left so sudden and too soon but I am grateful that you shared your talents with the world, so you will never be truly gone. Either way you will always have a place in my heart.

020: What are their hobbies?

The first and foremost answer would be the most obvious one: Acrobatics. There's nothing that brings him more joy and relief than to get up there on the trapeze and fly through the air like the old days, and he gets to incorporate that in his "professional" life as a vigilante as well. If unable to be in the air, gymnastics and staying active in general is the way to go. It lets out his energies and keeps him in shape. Heck, if nothing else is possible, I like to picture him just putting on his earbuds and dancing in his room to his favorite music.

Other than that, I imagine he enjoys hanging out with his friends when they are available to do that. He also likes giving back to the community, and volunteer work is something he does aplenty. His favorite would probably teaching gymnastics and acrobatics at the youth centers in Bludhaven or Gotham.

He also enjoys kicking it back every once in a while and watch his favorite TV shows, read some comics or just take a nap. He likes to be on the move, so he'll probably do those only when he has absolutely nothing else to do, which is usually a rare occasion.

042: What are their greatest achievements?

That is a horrible question for someone who didn't finish reading most of Nightwing's comics like me, but I will do my best to summarize my general view of his greatest achievements.

There is absloutely no doubt that one of his greatest achievements and utmost quality in him, in general, is his leadership and its style. Even from his days as a Robin he showed the capabilities of a great leader with the Titans, and all throughout his life people look up to him and are inspired by his actions as the role model he is. He has a nuturing attitude and a mentorship aptitude; he is people's safety net, which means he lets people act on their choices but provides guidance which is not forceful or lecturing. He teaches, not preaches. He lets people make mistakes and helps them learn from it. He's not only a leader, too - he's a friend. And that's probably part of his charm; the amount of peers and people that respect and/or love him is incredible, and only because he's being himself.

This probably leads me to what I think is his next greatest achievement: Nightwing itself. It may sound a little bizzare to call his vigilante identity an achievement, but it really is. He was the first Robin, the golden boy, boy wonder; everything in his life, everything he was taught by Batman and his upbringing since being taken in by Bruce was to serve this sidekick persona of Robin. Everyone in his life, friends and foes, knew him by that name. Being able to break away from this gigantic persona and find his own individual path in vigilantism, build his own reputation away from the shadow of the bat (even though he will never be entirely disconnected from it) is a feat that takes tremandous willpower and resillience. He paved the way for the next Robins to be their own people eventually, too.

It's tomorrow now! I got like 6 asks for it so I guess this is happening now.

Ok so. In Plus Ultra, its shown every once in a while that All Might is incredibly shrewd and will do litterally anything for the 'greater good'. Its really interesting to Izuku - the man's greatest flaw is that nothing is out of the question when All Might needs to do what he thinks is right.

And then Izuku takes Midoriya's place and meets All Might and the man is amazing, inspiring, the type of person Izuku looked at at his sickest and felt in awe of - not because of his strength of body, but his strength of will to keep going despite it all.

All Might picks him, promising his quirk to him. He'll be incredibly fast, strong, resillient, he'll never need to get breathless from walking a few steps or have his arms shake as he tries to life his school bag. He grabs it with both hands.

When All Might seeminly decides to break him to build him better, Izuku knows whats happening. And he lets it. If he has to suffer to be useful then sure - he knows suffering. He can take it.

Better him than someone else.

𝒷𝒾𝑜𝑔𝓇𝒶𝓅𝒽𝓎

Emmeline Vance has always been described as ‘capable’. From a young age she was solving puzzles in creative ways and forging a path for herself early in life. Her parents offered Emmeline a safe and happy childhood, although they both worked long, exhausting hours at the ministry meaning that child-care was left to her grandfather who owned Honeydukes sweet shop. As a small child, there was nothing that Emme loved more than suggesting new sweets her grandpa to try and make to try and then helping him make the ideas from her imagination into a reality. When she was six years old, her grandpa gave her her own little apron and nametag for when she was at the store.

Helping out at the store truly shaped Emme as she grew up. All sorts of people stopped by the store in their trips to Hogsmeade - all shapes, all sizes, all races, all blood statuses. Emme naturally became kind and compassionate, willing to help whoever might need it no matter what their background. Her first signs of magic showed in the store - she had to carry 3 tubs of jelly slugs from the cellar to the top of the store, and managed to levitate one in front of her like grandpa did with a degree of concentration after huffing about the fact she couldn’t carry three with her little hands. Certainly, her grandfather was more of a parent than her own parents ever were.

The issue of parenting came to a head just before her ninth birthday, when her parents decided that they were going to move to France to start life afresh. Emme’s father had been offered a job at the French Ministry and they had taken it easily, jumping at the opportunity to start life again in the beauty of France. But Emme’s little heart broke at the idea of not only being taken away from Britain and the promise of Hogwarts, but from the most important person in her young life. A few roaring arguments between her father and grandfather while Emme was supposed to be sleeping (but was really hovering at the top of the stairs trying to listen to what the adults were saying) and the three adults called her downstairs asking her a simple question.

“Would you rather live in Britain with grandpa or move to France with Mummy and Daddy?”

Emme never answered verbally, but instead ran over and clung to her grandpa’s leg, who had been more of a father to her than her own father had. It wasn’t their fault, of course, that they worked long hours and hardly ever saw their daughter - but Emme’s decision was easy. And so it was that within the next few months Emme’s parents prepared to move away and prepared to leave their daughter behind (promising visits, of course). In January, her parents were gone leaving her to live with grandpa and grandma in their small flat above the store. Life passed by peacefully until her eleventh birthday arrived and with it, a letter inviting her to Hogwarts.

On her first day at Hogwarts, Emme learned that not everyone was as kind as her. Her grandfather had pulled her aside at Hogsmeade station before she ran to join the arriving students and said ‘be brave enough to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves’. Those pearls of wisdom stuck a chord deep within Emme, who had always considered herself kind but hadn’t had to put herself in any level of discomfort to be kind so far. She had lived a reasonably sheltered upbringing, after all. Cruel thoughts had not been present in either her home or the sweet store (after all, who can find it in their hearts to be cruel when surrounded by that much sugar). With that wisdom fresh in her mind, Emme made her way towards Hogwarts where the sorting hat confidently placed her in Ravenclaw.

From there, Emme excelled at school. She had always loved reading as a child, and she made a name for herself quickly as one who always placed near to the top of her class. She engaged in lots of extra-curriculars including Charms club and Dueling club, and spent most of her evenings buried in magical practice and theory. In fifth year Emme became a prefect.

During her careers meeting, Emme looked at the pamphlets before her and knew there was only one real option for her. She had half considered the aurors programme, but reading and writing had always been her passion. Emmeline applied for a job with the Daily Prophet as a junior journalist. Working hard at her N.E.W.Ts, Emme left Hogwarts with an Outstanding in all subjects and a well-earned place at the Daily Prophet.

Since starting work at the Daily Prophet eight years ago, Emmeline has carved a name for herself as a well-respected journalist. She always works for the truth no matter how uncomfortable or unsettling it might be, and is determined to bring the truth to the public. This has, on occasion, led to Howlers being sent through the post but Emme is not deterred.

Emme is a notorious coffee drinker and can almost always be found with a flask in hand. She also loves to bake, frequently bringing in home made snacks to share around the office - Merlin only knows that their office needs a sprinkling of happy on a semi-regular basis. She gets excited about any and all holidays, and her absolute favourite place to be is the beach - especially when she’s wandering up and down the sand wearing a cosy jumper and bright yellow wellington boots. Despite reporting on some of the atrocities that happen in the wizarding world, Emme still lives with a sense of optimism and an understanding that the world really is full of good people even if it might not seem like it.

Emmeline is committed towards seeking justice both professionally and personally for all. She believes that the way that muggle-borns were treated at school was unjust, and has continued to speak against this in her journalism. When it becomes clearer that Voldemort is truly persecuting muggle-borns, Emmeline will step up to work against him firmly. When Emmeline commits, she throws her whole self behind a cause and can never be called ‘half-hearted’.

Like Father, Like Son

Rating: Teen

Warnings: mentions of death, mentions of prostitution, like slightly dark? Gritty maybe is a better descriptor, Naruto world taken seriously.

Genre: romance, drama, slight angst (we know how these two ended up), crack taken seriously

Summary: the story of Minato’s parents, and how that influenced Minato’s decisions, and his courtship of Kushina. Inspired by this post about Minato being extra.

Like many children in ninja villages—and truly, just children in general, since the Warring States Era and the formation of the Ninja Villages—Namikaze Minato is an orphan. His father was a self-taught ninja from a small village on the boarder of Kaze no Kuni, while his mother was a kunoichi from Tsuchi.

Though Minato's parents had died when he was young, he was old enough to remember them. He was old enough to understand why his parents were forced to hide away from their home countries, old enough to know when and why he had to hide and lie.

He was old enough to understand why tousan had to escape in the night while he and kaachan had to flee in the cover of tousan's sacrifice distraction.

He was old enough to understand why he and kaachan had to lie about their ninja training when they immigrated into Konoha with forged papers so realistic that not even Konoha's infamous T&I, or their renowned Yamanaka clan could tell the difference.

He was old enough to understand why kaachan was forced to work in the way she did, why strange people would spend an hour or two, or sometimes even the whole night behind the door to his mother's room, why she made him leave when some specific visitors stopped by, why he eventually came home to find her laying in bed, blooms of red and shocks of shiny white against her cold, still skin.

He was old enough to remember it all—to want to change it all, one day—but his mind would always take him back to one specific memory.

Minato could recite the story word for word, with how much his kaachan told it—how much more she would cling to the words after tousan was gone.

Kaachan was from Iwagakure, having sworn her life to the Tsuchikage and the Tsuchi no Kuni daimyou as a kunoichi of the Rock. Touchan truly had no allegiance—his skills had come from a talent with chakra and a necessity for self-defense.

So when touchan had seen a group of Suna-nin abducting a woman, he did what any good man would do.

He saved her.

Touchan had followed after the Suna-nin in secret, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Touchan was not sure he could defeat the two Suna-nin on his own, but he knew that with the help of the right environment and a few tricks, he could come out victorious.

With his wind chakra aiding him in both speed and his strikes, touchan caught the first nin completely off guard. As the second nin—the one holding kaachan—noticed his partner listing to the right—before the dead body could hit the ground—touchan had just as swiftly eliminated the other, catching kaachan in his arms.

Unwilling to linger at the scene, touchan carried kaachan away, until it was safe for them to stop. When touchan untied kaachan's binds, she couldn't help herself.

Kaachan pulled touchan into a kiss.

It was in that moment that kaachan fell in love with touchan. Both were alone in this cruel ninja world. The shinobi nations were in the midst of the second Great Ninja War. People were dying left and right, hundreds every day.

Who would miss one kunoichi? Who would recognise one self-taught man from the edges of Kaze no Kuni?

Who would give up on the chance of happiness, love, and family, when the world had taken so much from them?

He remembers asking his parents how they knew they were in love after just one meeting.

His mother always answered, “A selfless act of kindness in a cruel world is a rare thing to be treasured. When you find that, especially when you're alone and hopeless, it's easier to leave behind the entirety of your harsh, unfriendly life for even just a single moment with such a person."

When Minato asked his touchan, his father always answered, "There is not much kindness in this world, not much any single person alone can do to fix that. We work hard, we may try to help others, but that's not going to get any one man very far. Kaachan has a fire in her, a toughness, a resilliance which cannot be crushed. She is fierce in her mind, body, and soul. As a man forced to grow and survive on his own, I know just how valuable, and how rare those traits are. I had desperately craved for companionship, for a family, and your mother has the strength and resilliance to ensure our story will be longer than most."

At the time, Minato didn't truly understand what either of his parents meant. But as an orphan, as a boy all alone, who had witnessed the worst of the world and wanted to make it better, who had his world stripped from him in a place that should have been safe, with the weight of his parents sacrifices on his mind and the desperate urge for a family once more...

Minato fell in love.

All he knew about love was what he'd seen from his parents. With no advice, no one to turn to, Minato did the only thing he could:

He emulated the fond, much told memory of how his parents fell in love with the percotions, strong-willed, resilliant Uzumaki Kushina.

And like a blessing from beyond, like a gift from his absent parents, Uzumaki Kushina—who had only ever glared and grumbled at Minato before then—had fallen in love with him.

It hadn't been hard to use the shadow-clone jutsu and then henge them into Kumo-nin. It wasn't hard to find Kushina all alone, after tricking the ANBU who followed her with a genjutsu laid out by Uchiha Fugaku's sharingan.

It wasn't hard for Minato to gently disable (but not disperse!) his own clones, to catch Kushina in his arms, to take her to "safety" (as if she were in any danger at all).

It wasn't hard to attract her heart and capture it—not with his boyish good looks, his patience, and most damning of all—

Kushina's lonliness and desire for connection.

With her home village destroyed and Mito-sama recently deceased, there wasn't a better time for him to put his ploy in motion. Maybe to a civilian that might seem callous, but to a ninja, that was just smart planning.

What did it matter if he was using her grief and loneliness to his advantage? His company would heal that for her anyways.

(Besides, it was his grief and lonliness which drove him to do it).

Minato would grow up to be a lot of things: a hero and a curse, a soldier and a leader, a husband and—just briefly—a father.

Minato would not go on to share the story of how he got Kushina to love him with his son. Minato would instead go on to emulate his father, sacrificing himself in the hopes of giving his child a shot at a better life.

But that was for later. In this moment, in the shoddy comfort of the bachelor apartment allotted to orphaned ninja-in-training, Minato put the pieces of his plan together.

Minato was old enough to retain memories of his life before Konoha, before his parents were taken from him, but only one memory stood out.

And so he remembered.

And so he took the past and made it his present with dreams of the future on his mind.

Fun Facts!

I imagine Minato's mom to be blonde like he, Naruto, and Deidara are, while his dad has red hair similar to Kushina and Gaara. His mother's hair was smooth and straight while his father's was spikes like Minato and Naruto.

The ninja who killed Minato's father were sent after his mother for desertion. Another Iwa-nin had caught sight of her and reported back to the Tsuchikage. The nin were sent to kill Minato's parents but were instructed to bring Minato back alive in case he was useful. I kind of puts Minato's massacre of those thousand Iwa-nin during the Third War into a new light...

Fugaku only agreed to help Minato because when he initially refused, Minato accused Fugaku of not being able to do it. Fugaku, like a certain other Uchiha we know, was desperate to prove himself. Minato didn't tell Fugaku about his plan, he just dared Fugaku to trick the ANBU.

Minato had to practice with his clones for weeks to be able to fight them without them "popping." He ended up having to use a seal on them to make them more resilliant. It was his first time working with fuinjutsu, and what sparked his love for it. Kushina's interest only heightened his own.

Yes, Minato's dad only went along with kaachan's feelings because he was lonely and she was strong. Relationships have been built on less. He was a very pragmatic man. He did genuinely fall in love with her though.

When Minato and his mom immigrated to Konoha, she had to pretend to be a civilian with no ninja training to avoid suspicion, and be offered asylum as a Hi no Kuni refugee. As a foreigner (even one posing as a Fire Country citizen) and with the growing number of refugees, it was hard for her to find a job, so she became a prostitute. She was killed by a nin who was triggered and experienced a panic attack/flashback. He fled the scene after, and ended up letting himself get killed during his next mission. The case of her murder remains unsolved—not that the police did much investigating. There were more pressing issues to deal with at the time.

The harsh life Minato lived—as a fugitive and then a refugee and orphan—is what led him to want to be Hokage. He wanted to save people from the pain he and his parents suffered.

Kushina's spirit (and declaration to be Hokage) is what attracted Minato to her. His father's words of finding someone strong and stubborn enough to survive in this cruel ninja world is what made him decide she was the one for him.

Kushina is dumb. So dumb. Didn't catch on even once. Fell for the plot hook, line, and sinker. Even when, years later, Minato shared the story of how his parents met with her, Kushina did not piece his plan together.

Due to Minato using "Kumo"-nin to carry out the abduction, he made their already poor reputation in Konoha worse. This was further exasterbated when real Kumo-nin actually tried to kidnap Hinata.

Minato sacrafied himself that night when Kurama was unleashed on the village, because all he could think of in that moment was the way his father sacrificed himself to save Minato and his mom. It clouded his judgement from more logical options, like, I don't know, not casting a suicide jutsu to trap half a tailed beast in his minutes old son and his soon to be dead body.

Kushina was delirious from pain meds, having an tailed beast extracted from her, and her own hotheadedness. It was a bad mix.

In the end, Naruto learnt that rescuing a girl is the way to her heart, following the Namikaze family tradition of courtship.

AN: So, uh... This got darker than I thought. The post that inspired this was so cute too. I wrote this a few weeks ago on a night I was too busy for this bs and yet it would not let me rest until it was released. I wrote this after being challenged prompted by @books-n-guns, as crack is my apparent specialty (we been knew, I know. After the LeeKaguya fic I think I solidified my place in this fandom). Regina, "I don't yearn" was a lie. A total lie. I do yearn, but its not for Killian. He's a great friend, and albeit attractive, he's not the one that I want. He's not the one that I want to wake up to every day. He's not the person that I want to fight every battle with. He's not the person that I want teaching me magic. Most importantly, he's not the one that I want to raise our son with. Killian is great, but he's not you. He's not my cute little Evil Panda... well not so evil anymore. I'm glad you'll never get this letter because I'm positive that you will fireball me for even thinking to write that line, but it would be so worth it. Regina Maria Mills, you are AMAZING, you've come so far and I am so unbelievably proud of you! You've fought your way through Hell and back and have come out more regal than ever before. Your strength, resillience, wit, sass and humor is beyond inspiring. You are literally a crown jewel and sometimes it breaks my heart when you dont see that in yourself. You've pulled yourself up from the Evil Queen and Mayor Mills to finally being Regina. I cant say it enough you are amazing; and I love you for that. Regina you are the love of my life. I cant imagine my life without you. Without the constant fighting, the back and forths, the sassy comments, the movie nights, or the lasagna. Just ONE more...until I think of yet another question I'm dying to ask you a few minutes from now! What do you see as Buffy's greatest traits and worst flaws? Angel's greatest traits and worst flaws? In what ways (assuming they were human) do you see them as compatible? In what ways do think they're similar to each other, and what are their complementary differences? What jobs do you think they'd have as humans? What would they each be like as parents? What would they do in their spare time?!

Buffy’s greatest traits and worst flaws

Buffy is a very complex character with so many strengths, but equally, many flaws. Without a doubt her greatest strengths are her resillience and inner-strength. No matter what life throws at her she seems to have an incredible ability to keep moving forward. Even after Joyce’s death - which is undoubtedly one of the greatest tragedies anyone in this world will face - she’s able to compartmentalise in order to take responsbility of the household and step up to be a parental figure for Dawn when she’s still a child herself. Not to mention that she dies and is resurrected and somehow manages to find a way to keep going. What strikes me about Buffy is that even when she’s clearly struggling mentally and emotionally she never wallows in self pity. She accepts that the world is unfair and cruel and that everybody suffers in different ways and she does the best she can to carry on. Her other strengths include her leadership, confidence, determination and decisiveness. In every situation she finds herself in, Buffy is able to make tough decisions for herself and others. She never shies away from the responsibilities that go with being the Slayer, she owns it. She’s the one that everybody looks to when shit hits the fan and that’s a huge burden, but she never treats it as one despite feeling that way deep down inside. It takes so much courage to be able to make hard and fast decisions, particularly when those decisions impact the people around you, but Buffy does it all the time. Her morality is also a strength of Buffy’s. She has a strong sense of right and wrong, and although that view can sometimes be a little bit too black and white, she is never afraid to stand up and fight for what she believes is right no matter what it takes. Once again, that takes great courage. Speaking of courage, the courage and bravery Buffy has is staggering. Even when she’s afraid she doesn’t let it show, she always goes into a fight ready and raring to go. She’s also incredibly loyal and although she has a strong belief in justice, she has an ability to forgive others even when they sometimes aren’t necessarily deserving of her forgiveness.

As for her flaws, they’re very much the flip-side of her strengths. Her resillience and inner-strength can sometimes lead to her being emotionally unavailable and closed off. Her way of dealing with the responsibility of being the Slayer and the trauma, depression, grief and other powerfully negative emotions she faces is to isolate herself, shut away her feelings and focus on tasks. This means that she often doesn’t process or deal with her emotions in a healthy way resulting in her taking it out on others, or more commonly taking it out on herself (this is particularly the case in season 6). The way she would shut herself off emotionally also sometimes led to her not being perceptive of how others around her were feeling and being insenstive or dismissive of them. Simirlarly, her leadership and confidence means that she can be condescending and belittle the opinions and knowledge of others, believing that she’s superior. Sometimes her confidence can drift over to arrogance and she can’t always admit when she’s wrong or take the advice of others. Statements such as “There’s only me. I am the law” really show that. Furthermore, her decisiveness and leadership means that she sometimes makes decisions for others that aren’t hers to make or she doesn’t take the feelings of others into consideration as much as she should. Her courage and bravery can occassionally transform into recklessness and impulsivity whereby she throws herself into potentially harmful situations with little regard for her well-being.

Angel’s greatest traits and worst flaws

Angel’s greatest traits are definitley his compassion, dedication and selflessness. Angel will lay his life on the line to save the life of anybody, whether it’s his son or a stranger that he’s just met. He is fiercely dedicated to helping others and is genuinely able to empathise and sympathise with people in order to provide that help. Because of the uniqueness of Angel as a vampire with a soul he has an inherent ability to empathise with people (despite the fact that he believes he’s disconnected from them), because he’s lived for so long, has such a wealth of life experience, has experienced the darkest parts of humanity as a soulless demon and now feels the pure emotion that comes from having a soul. He’s able to see the good in everybody and to remain open-minded and non-judgemental in order to understand people’s lives, motivations and feelings. Despite how much good he does, he’s very humble and never seeks fame, glory or praise. There’s a lot to be said for the fact that every person Angel helps he does so because he wants to help. It’s that simple. He doesn’t do it because of some ulterior motive, it’s completely selfless. I mean, this is a man(pire) that was willing to die fighting an unwinnable battle. Angel is also a great leader, but in a very different way from Buffy. Angel isn’t a self-elected leader, he’s a natural leader that his friends look to because they trust his judgement and have faith in his decisions and ability to lead. Angel doesn’t assume responsibility because he believes he has the authority, power or skill to do so more than anybody else, he does it because that’s what his friends expect of him. As a result of this, he’s able to listen to the advice of his friends and even delegate responsibility, letting them to take the lead sometimes. This is all part of Angel’s kindness and ability to see the good in everyone. Angel has an ability to inspire and motivate those around him based purely on his actions and philosophy. He’s able to bring characters like Faith, Cordy, Wes, Gunn and Fred - all of whom felt disconnected, lonely, unappreciated and had very little self-belief when he first met them - and transform their perception of themselves. With Angel’s mission statement and leadership to provide them with direction and his care and support, they were all able to come into their own and hone their strengths, skills and abilities (which hadn’t been acknowledged previously) to make a difference in the world.

In regards to his flaws, I’d say that he can be very depressive and pessimistic, which is only to be expected from a vampire with a soul. Sometimes he can be prone to falling into a dark spiral and when he starts that descent there’s very little that can stop him. A lot like Buffy, this can sometimes be part of him hitting self-destruct. Angel carries a lot of guilt and self-loathing for his past actions, and in the moments that that catches up to him he struggles to put things into perspective and acknowledge the person he is now and all of the good he’s doing. He also has a tendency to fixate on certain things which causes him to lose sight of the bigger picture. This happens at various points with Buffy, Darla, Cordelia, Connor, Lindsey W&H and Spike. A lot of the time I think this stems from his persistent fear that threats to those he loves are lurking just around the corner and doom is imminent (which, to be fair to him, it’s usually true haha). Angel also lacks confidence in his own abilities and is too humble. Being humble can never really be a negative thing, but I think that in the context of Angel’s character he’s too hard on himself and doesn’t give himself as much credit as he should for all the good he does. He often diminishes the huge importance he plays in fighting the good fight and the impact he has on people’s lives. Similarly, But Angel’s most obvious flaw (if we can even refer to it as such) is Angelus. Soulless vampires are evil, plain and simple, but Angelus takes this to the extreme. He’s a callous, vindictive, cruel, merciless monster that takes pleasure in inflicting pain on others and exploiting their weaknesses. Although Angelus is an entirely different character, it has an impact on how Angel acts. He constantly lives in fear of Angelus returning and with the guilt of Angelus’ actions. This results in him having a huge amount of self-hatred which festers inside him no matter how much time passes and which he can never get past or forgive himself for. However, Angel’s understanding and acceptance of this part of himself actually makes this somewhat of a strength of his. He hates that side of himself and repeatedly tells his friends that if he’s ever to lose his soul again they should kill him immediately.

In what ways (assuming they were human) do you see Bangel as compatible?

This is a very tricky question to answer, because I genuinely struggle to imagine Buffy and Angel as humans. The supernatural is such a huge part of their lives and such a definitive aspect of their relationship that if you take that away they become entirely different people and their relationship transforms as a result. Ultimately, what brings them together is their shared sense of isolation which comes from them being the only one of their kind - Buffy being the Slayer and Angel being a Vampire with a Soul. In addition, their fight against supernatural bads and desire to help others is a mission they share which unites them. There’s not very much that Buffy and Angel bond over outside of this, no shared interests, hobbies or commonalities that could be considered “human” that I can think of. So, I apologise, but I actually don’t know how to answer this question!

In what ways do think Bangel are similar to each other, and what are their complementary differences?

They’re both leaders who take immense responsibility onto their shoulders and have an ability to bring people together, to motivate and inspire them. Emotionally, they share similiar feelings of loneliness and depression that come from the traumas they face, the pressure of being a leader and feeling disconnected from the world they fight to protect. They’re resillient and have an astounding amount of strength which enables them to go on even after the worst has happened - Buffy has to endure killing Angel, losing her mother, dying and being resurrected; Angel has to endure dying, going to a hell dimension and being resurrected, losing Buffy, watching the mother of his child die in front of his eyes, having his son kidnapped by his own best friend, losing his son to evil, the woman he loves being possessed and impregnanted by an evil entity, losing his son forever as he wipes his memory, losing Cordy and Fred. I could continue, but you get the point. Buffy and Angel are able to keep moving forward when anyone else would simply lie down on the ground and give up. On a lighter note, they’re both goofy and have this adorkableness that seems to pop up during the most random times.

As for their differences, they have a lot but I wouldn’t necessarily consider them complimentary. I’d say that Buffy’s extroversion makes for a good contrast to Angel’s introversion. Angel keeps Buffy grounded and centered, whilst Buffy’s free-spirit captures Angel. Angel is also more able to remain open-minded to the possibility that demons have a capacity for goodness, whilst Buffy is usually much quicker to condemn demons without considering that they may not always be wholly evil. This means that Angel is able to encourage Buffy to reconsider her black and white view on the world and to give chances to those she may not have naturally, and on the flip side, Buffy’s outlook can remind Angel that not everybody always deserves a second chance or has a capacity to redeem themselves and set themselves on the right path.

Besides this, I can’t really think of any differences they have that are complimentary. The main differences I see between them come from the fact that Angel is so much older than Buffy and has completely different experiences as a vampire. Ths means that his motivations and priorities are quite different from Buffy’s, despite them being dedicated to a similar cause. Although Buffy accepts being the Slayer and fulfils her duties, she’s resistant to it on more than one occassion and when an oppourutnity arises to create more Slayers so that she’s not the only one she does so because she doesn’t want to carry that burden of being the Chosen One. In comparison, Angel is a self-elected hero. He’s not pre-ordained or chosen, he willingly dedicates himself to helping the helpless because he believes that’s his calling and he wants to repent for his previous sins. In an ideal world, Buffy doesn’t want to be the Slayer, she wants to be an ordinary girl, but Angel wouldn’t willingly choose to be human even if it was offered to him on a silver platter (which it is in ‘I Will Remember You’). Buffy, despite being the Slayer, is a human girl who longs for the things that most human girls do; to hang out with her friends, have fun, go shopping, spend time with family, graduate, get a car, go on holiday and do everything else that young people do. Angel naturally doesn’t care about any of that. He doesn’t think in terms of his future or building a life like Buffy does, he lives for the here and now and works off the idea that he will do everything he can today to make his life count for something.

What jobs do you think Bangel would have as humans?

I think Angel would be a Private Investigator. I know this is a bit of a cop out, because he was a PI on AtS, but it’s exactly the sort of job that suits him. He needs something where he can actively be out in the world making a difference to people’s lives but where he has freedom to make his own decisions and take on his own cases. He also needs to have action in his life and to have independence. Although he works well with his friends on AtS, he isn’t the sort of guy that necessarily works well in a team, particularly if he’s forced to work with people that he doesn’t know very well.

Buffy would be in fashion. I don’t just say this because she has great fashion sense, but because she’s able to see the essence of people and I feel she would know exactly how to use fashion and image to project that to the outside world. I also think that a creative and vocational career where Buffy can use her hands and put her ideas into practice would suit her personality down to a T.

What would Bangel each be like as parents? What would they do in their spare time?!

Well, we saw Angel as a father and Buffy as a kind-of-mother to Dawn, but I suppose as a co-parenting team I’d imagine them to be fun-loving but over-protective parents. They would definitley teach their kids self-defence; Angel would encourage them to read books and go to the ballet and theatre and musuems to ensure they’re attuned to the world around them and culturally aware; Buffy would be the discplinarian because lets face it Angel is just a softie; they’d attend ice hockey games every weekend where Angel would embarass the kids by yellling out all the time; Angel would tell the worst dad jokes in the world; Buffy would always try to make things fun and take any oppourtunity she could to have a family barbeque, parties or celebration; they’d sit down to eat dinner together every evening and Angel would cook (because Buffy’s cooking skills only extend to cheese toasties); Buffy would be the cool hip parent that every parent at the school playground would admire and envy; Angel would take on the domestic duties like cleaning, washing clothes and cooking but the kids would have a strict chore schedule that they’d get pocket money for; Buffy would be incredibly affectionate always smothering the kids with hugs and kisses and beaming about how proud she is of them.

Okay very cute but, he can’t draw as well as you, he knows that, so sometimes he asks for you to teach him how to. He may screw around a bit but he’s so eager to learn from you. Occasionally he doodles a small picture of you doing something you may have told him you wanted to do. Like a poorly drawn stick figure with an arrow pointing at you with your name on top and you’re trying to like, I don’t know, sit on a beach. It’s so cute though praise him and he’ll melt and have a cute pink on his cheeks.

Also, he loves cooking when you’re next to him. Something about doing something so mundane with you makes him feel so comforted. After you two eat and get into a food coma, he loves snuggling you closely. OH, AND HE WILL WAKE YOU UP WITH KISSES, AND THEYRE GONNA TICKLE BECAUSE OF HIS STUBBLE.

i would really like to have Teal speak more about athletics because I thinkthis makes her much more resillient and confident, in the end - she obviouslly has that in her mind, but also she managed to achieve things in the phyical sense as well. i lck that. i am not even helthy because of that; it comes from sense of unworthiness but nevertheless I JUST HAVE A PROBLEM with accepting i deserve to have good health and to thrive, so I DON'T! i wish i could listen to some formulas about athletic achievement - i am not a badly jealous person, i could handle that type of inspiration - another person's previous experience. i want to hear teal talk about her times of superachievement in th ephysical - when she was just confident. i have my neighbour talk about that to me - he's a professional athlete - ice hocjkey national team player in our country, but here we have a very slow economy and thereis not the same freedom and coolness to be excellent and great. people ahve hated him, and have hated me when i was extraordinary in athletics before, in music, and in art, writing and pulic speaking. i still get denied access to jobs because i shame the HRs with my ability to trust and love myself, the innate trust, even though i dont seem super confident. tehy cut me off ebcause they feel they have the power to use to cut everybody that isn't PERFECT. i am not. i think the process of perfection is infinite - it is not just th epeak of your sports career,it is having your son and being perfect to have enough money to afford his higher education and healthy lifestyle. like christian heria does with his little kid >> <<

I’ll do one favorite thing per BTS member!! It ended up being really long, but since I didn’t really do a 5th anniversary post I suppose I’ll use your ask to do it TT

Seokjin: His selflessness. He’s constanty sacrificing his own desires and needs for everyone around him without a single thought. He always bottles everything up, and never ever seems to burst or blame anyone else for anything, and it takes immense character to be able to do that. As he himself says, it takes a toll on him to stay so positive all times, but we’ve never ever seen him complain or show any form of disappointment, nor have any of BTS seen it.. which really says a lot about what kind of strong person Seokjin is to carry these burdens.

Yoongi: His resillience. The way he struggles through everyday with his mental state, but continues to push forward through all of it with as much confidence as he can muster for his immense skill. And through all of that, making sure to let others struggling like him know it’s okay. He’s so incredibly strong to stand infront of huge crowds like BTS does, and always giving his 110% for us despite his struggles. And his lyrics are truly such a huge inspiration, especially for our generation. So I’m always admiring him for putting to words everything that we need to hear.

Namjoon: For Namjoon I can name multiple things but on a personal thing, I really really relate to his struggles with English. I’m self taught too and while I can comprehend and write English almost perfectly, the biggest issue i have is with pronunciation.. because I’m selftaught the way I pronounce things is how i.. imagined it, rather than the correct one. And I noticed Namjoon tends to make the similar pronunciation mistakes as I do.. I never really realized why i had an accent at speaking English despite my written English being really good but after relating to namjoon’s struggles it helped me realize that bit about me.. It’s also why I admire him a lot for speaking English in interviews cause those issues are what make me really reluctant and timid about speaking English to people.. meanwhile he’s out there translating interviews and answering questions within seconds.. Takes a lot of hard work and confidence too, especially cause I”m sure it gives him a lot of anxiety too.

Hoseok: His positivity. I know people always note this, but I cannot imagine how straining and stressful it must be to constantly be so positive and to be the mood-maker every time? Yet it’s so natural with him, he’s always taking on the role without second thoughts and making sure everyone else gets in the mood as well, without forcing anyone (liek even Yoongi cannot resist his positivity lmao). And the fact that it’s so extremely hard to get him upset/angry, and how patient he is about everything, it shows such great character of him too :(

Jimin: His warm personality? The way he can make anyone feel at home around him, and he makes sure they are too. He’s a really genuinely goodhearted person, with a really soft heart that always looks out for everyone. Someone mentioned this a while ago, but he’s a true mediator. He knows exactly what to say, and knows exactly how to make sure everyone is accounted for but in such a natural way that nobody feels left out or awkward about it.

Taehyung: Idk how to explain it cause I cannot think of examples of the top of my head. But he tends to make sure that when people feel insecure about things, that they shouldn’t be?? He’s always rooting for everyone and their unique things, making sure everyone feels good about themselves. He’s a fairly unique person himself so it kind of makes sense. But generally he always stands up for people who have particular complexes, and reminds them it’s okay and will aggressively defend them.

Jungkook: I feel like i can go for too many qualities I adore but for today i’ll go for his eloquence. He’s so good in putting to words his thoughts. It’s probably cause he thinks a lot more than he shows about so many different things, so many different little things nobody notices. But being able to put those many thoughts into words is such an amazing feat, and we’re all so incredibly lucky to have a precious boy like him who constantly surprises us by how much he cares about us, and everyone around him when he finally expresses it through whether a fancafe post, a thank you video. He always knows exactly what to say, and genuinely means it. And that’s such an impressive feat!!

So, in honor of my anonymous prompt earlier, I will write a post about why Rip Hunter, as a character, appeals to me.

The big thing, for me, is that he's complicated. He's a very flawed man but a good man.

And when we meet him, he is in the worst place imaginable, having suffered the single worst loss that I think a human being can suffer. He's fucked up, half out of his mind with loss, grief and trauma, and he's embarking on a domino effect of bad decisions and consequences.

And I love that. Because it feels, viscerally, real.

I've said before that I think Rip Hunter is probably the closest thing that the CW-verse has to a realistic, recognizable portrayal of a trauma survivor. And I find it compellng.

Trauma in the Arrowverse tends to be written one of two ways, in my opinion. The first, is the "trauma, what trauma" category. Take for example, Ray Palmer. In a very short amount of time, he loses a fiancee, he loses his business, he's captured and imprisoned for months by Damien Darhk. And as far as the narrative is concerned, this might as well never have happened.

This is not a criticism of Ray as a character, or Brandon Routh as an actor, but I think it's fair to say that the writers are not particularly interested in showing Ray dealing with any of these traumas. It gives us a character who apparently incredibly resillient and irrepressible. But probably not terribly realistic. We as an audience have to project what he must be feeling/experiencing beneath that facade onto him because, thus far, the show hasn't given us anything deeper.

Kara Danvers is, in some ways, another example of this. Supergirl does, occasionally, bother to show us a real aftermath of the significant losses that Kara's suffered throughout her life. But all too often, it seems to go forgotten entirely. She is someone who is strong enough to remain a light, joyous person despite horrible experiences. But it's hard sometimes to tell when this is the intended portrayal, or the show has sometimes forgotten that those experiences have happened at all.

The other type of trauma in the CW-verse is what I call Batman or Arrow trauma. Basically, it's the special province of the Arrow characters.

Unlike the first category, these characters' trauma is acknowledged. But only in according to a very specific formula:

The character starts out as an ordinary young person, maybe a bit shallow, thoughtless or arrogant, but generally a good-hearted person. Then through the course of events, they are transformed. They emerge from the other side of their trauma as strong, powerful badasses.

Of course, they're tormented too: and we see that, generally through attractive moonlit brooding shots. Maybe a spot of temper or the occasional bit of assholishness. But in truth, their social interactions never seem to suffer too much. They never seem to have trouble collecting friends and allies.

They'll have very aesthetically placed scars (always on the torso or the back. To be properly showcased in a shirtless scene. Never in the face. Never in a way that damages their beauty, or makes physical movement difficult.)

They'll have flashbacks or nightmares, but we rarely see anything undignified. We don't, for example, get to see them shouting or reacting to something that isn't there in a public or embarrassing way. Hell, we don't generally even get to see them cry afterward. We might get to see them breathe heavily, they may look pale and shaken. But never unattractively so.

This is not to say that these characters aren't suffering. But in a narrative sense, we get the sense that the trauma is...well...worth it. It's turned these characters into beautiful monsters and every element of their trauma is presented for the audience's benefit.

Rip Hunter doesn't fall into either of these categories to me. He's not a Ray Palmer or a Kara Danvers. His trauma is a major part of the storyline. It's very prominently featured and never forgotten. He therefore is not a man who is cheerfully resilient through truly terrible experiences.

He's not an Oliver Queen or a Sara Lance either, though. Rip didn't come out of his trauma a stronger, more powerful person. In fact, by all accounts (the Time Masters, John Valor, Eobard Thawne), Rip appeared to have been considerably more formidable before he'd lost his family.

Rip's trauma didn't make him a badass. It just broke him.

He's not a beautiful monster. He's a broken, destroyed wreck of a man.

And his symptoms are far less attractive. We don't generally see Rip come out of a flashback or a nightmare, pulling himself together with noble effort. No, we see Rip crying brokenly, alone, in a corner of an empty cargo bay. Or staring at a hologram, in his shirtsleeves, for a week at a time, inconveniencing and annoying his entire team.

Rip, like Oliver, has moments of temper, but when Rip lashes out, it's at people who aren't as patient or long-suffering as Oliver's friends. And he gets immediate consequences for it. (see: Marooned). He will bend over backward to throw himself into the fire for his team, but at the same time, he doesn't seem to be remotely able to connect to them on any human level. The man is wrapped up around lies and secrets, even with the people he trusts most. And he could never be described as the heart or the inspirational figure of the team, even at his best.

We've never seen any scars on Rip. I'd imagine he doesn't have any at all, despite the injuries we know he's suffered, because Gideon can heal pretty much anything.

So we never see Rip take off his shirt, showing impressive musculature adorned by scars to show us exactly what he's endured. Actually, the only time we ever see Rip shirtless at all, it's while in that Sauna in Failsafe, in a scene where he's intended to look as defenseless and weak as possible. (Though the subsequent fight scene does show that there is some musculature there after all.)

You can ask any Rip fan about that scene, and even the ones who find him/Arthur Darvill very attractive do not talk positively about that scene. Because it's not intended to be attractive.

Basically, everything about Rip's trauma showcases him as weak, unattractive, unlikeable, and even a burden at times.

And I often wonder if that isn't part of why Rip is so unpopular as a character. Because, well, this is a wish-fulfillment type of genre. And we admire people like Ray or Kara who can smile after the worst of their experiences. We admire people like Oliver and Sara, who come out of hell stronger.

Rip suffers in that comparison. How can he not? He’s a “wet blanket”.

But, at the same time, I think that's part of what makes Rip so compelling to me. I look at Rip, the patterns, the flaws, the ugliness, and I feel like I recognize what I see.

In the midst of the comic book fantasy, I feel like Rip Hunter is a glimpse of something raw, visceral and REAL.

So, I'm invested. Far more than I really ought to be. And I find it very easy to become indignant on behalf of a character who is maligned for his humanity, while his complexities are ignored and diminished.

Rip's story, at its heart, will always be a story of survival and slow, painful healing. And to me, it will always be the most compelling part of Legends of Tomorrow.
