Today I accidentally discovered a Substack called “Oldster”, which contains numerous positive, realistic, and helpful interviews, essays and reflections on getting older than you are currently, whatever your age. There’s no set age to be an “Oldster”, and you definitely don’t need to be older now to gain wisdom here.

I have been greatly helped through my own life by the insights of older friends and younger friends both. The first group gives you insights into Your Future Challenges and Discoveries and Identity and the second group gives you a connection to Those Who Follow And Other Points Of View. Nice to see so much awesome advice in one place.

I have been extremely M.I.A lately because life is overwhelming and work is eating me alive, but in the good news side: i might be moving, for the first time, to my own apartment on September 🥺🧡🥳

You know, for a game set in the sky, and where skydiving well is critical in a couple places, Skyward Sword does a pretty bad job at teaching that skill.

There’s a whole tutorial at the start about how to fly the loftwing, and zero skydiving. My strategy to getting to surface has been to fly very low and hop off at the last minute because the game takes control at that point.

As a result, I’ve never been able to get that baby’s rattle out of the nest (why can’t I just cruise my loftwing over? Does Skyloft have air traffic control rules?) and there’s at least one part of the main quest where you have to skydive to a cave on Eldin. I ended up swapping to the button controls specifically to do that, but I can easily say that’s where my game would have ended on Wii.

And yes, I’ve tried it. For hours. I cannot tell you how much time I’ve spent hookshotting up to that waterfall to jump off and land very, very short.

I was very good with my paraglider in BOTW and I really hope the sky diving mechanics in TOTK are given a better tutorial or I’m gonna be a sad potato.

one of the most infuriating things about becoming an adult is when you realize that it actually is 10x easier to solve problems by making a phone call vs literally any other communication method

#I was forced to get over my hatred of making phone calls bc of this #one 15 minute phone call is the equivalent of 5 back and forth emails #also if you don't know exactly what you need help with you can just ask and you can get real help #instead of just desperately clawing at faqs on websites #it's infuriating that it works so well #ramblings

Hey all, you know how internet searches suck now? When the results are awful, full-of-AI, death-of-the-internet levels of bad?

Start appending date constraints to your searches - "before:2023".

My results have gone from 90% AI bullshit to ~60% usable - which frankly at this point is a huge improvement.
